You are Walter Graff, and as an aspiring Pokémon Master, you efforts and ambition have gotten you into some very tense situations. In your short time as a Pokémon Trainer, you’ve had to fight for money, dignity, and on several occasions, your life. As you approach the front doors of the dark and empty Nucite City Gym, it dawns on you that this upcoming battle will be the one that to call everything into question. Thinking back, becoming a successful Pokémon Trainer had always seemed like an unobtainable goal to you, but it was also the only path you could ever see for yourself. Every struggle and setback you’ve endured up to this point has lead up to this moment, the moment where your true worth as a Trainer will be tested against the iron will of the most grim and merciless Gym Leader in the region. Though your confidence has not yet waned, you’re beginning to get the sneaking suspicion that the odds are once again stacked against you.

Announcement:

Hello everyone. I just wanted to give a quick update on what’s going on with me and this quest. After getting a few things organized, I have finally put together a schedule which will allow me to return home from work and update from my laptop on a more consistent basis. As some of you may know, my phone was swept up in a range ban that lasted for over a month, far longer than I had expected. Now that I have a few of my IRL affairs in order, I am no longer completely reliant on mobile posting to get updates out. Things will run as they always have but in the event that something like this happens again, the show will go on without any week or month long breaks. While I don’t have an “emergency schedule” planned out, the weekends along with Wednesday evening will be guaranteed at the very least. With that said, I hope this is the last time that uncontrollable circumstances get in the way of the quest’s progression and that we can all enjoy ourselves without any more technical issues. I will note however, that I will be having a Father’s Day dinner, so the first few updates will be delayed for a few hours.

“Are you sure about this?” Questions Jordan as she leans back on the front desk.

“Give me a good reason why you think I should turn back now.”You ask, giving a quick glance at the doors just down the hall. After entering the Gym, Vernon had disappeared behind a large set of double doors, leaving you and your “rivals” at the receptionist desk.

“You’ve been at this for less than a month and you’re about to face a Gym Leader who’s infamous for being one of the hardest to beat.” Comes Jordan’s response..

“Rookie or not, I’m not leaving this city until I get a badge.”

“Badge?” Repeats Jordan in confusion.

“What did you think he came here for, a quick training session and an autograph?” Lyle cuts in sarcastically.

Ignoring Lyle’s remark, Jordan lets out a sigh and lays an elbow on the desk. “Do you even have a Trainer Card?”

You rummage through your pockets and take out your license, holding it out in front of you. “I’ve got it right here.”

Jordan’s expression is at first one of disbelief, but it shifts to one of amusement. “You really are the master of last minute surprises, huh?”

“It’s what I do best.” You reply as Jordan takes the card from your hand and steps behind the desk.

“Well, if you’re going in there, you’re gonna need a plan.” States Lyle with a serious tone. “You’ve heard a thing or two about this Gym right?”

“Well, you told me about the “stage hazards” earlier, that still seems pretty unfair.”

“Some Gym Leaders take the concept of home field advantage pretty seriously,” Says Lyle as he takes over Jordan’s former perch. “People like Vernon just take everything seriously. He and his team are ready for anything at any level.”

“I saw one of his battles a few days ago. I have a good idea of what I’m in for.”

“Well if there’s anything you need to know, now’s the time to ask.” Offers Lyle.

I was tempted to look at some alternatives during my time off but I knew the transition from something as simple as /qst/ to a new system and platform would delay things further. Though I'm not completely opposed to the idea, I'd only consider taking this quest elsewhere as a last resort.

“I already have things figured out,” You decline. “There’s no point in scrambling to find new strategies now.”

“Yeah, I guess so.” Lyle replies. “Second guessing yourself now might not be the way to go. Just be sure to stay on your toes.”

“You’re in, for better or worse.” Interrupts Jordan as she hands your card back to you.

“You sound like you’re worried about him.” Teases Lyle.

“He has a Honedge and a Ralts.”

“Ooo!” Exclaims Lyle, cringing. “I can already see the look on Vernon’s face. He’s gonna come at you ten times harder for that, and he’s already in a bad mood!”

“Well then let’s see just how hard he can get.” You reply, making your way to the doors.

Lyle fails to suppress a small chuckle and follows you along with Jordan into the battle arena. The field looks just like it did in the video Shane sent you and Vernon stands on the other side of the room, looking even more intense than he did in the recording. As Lyle heads to the stands on the sidelines, Jordan takes her place in the referee box. After receiving a nod from her brother, Jordan begins with the proceedings.

“This battle will be an official match between the Nucite Gym Leader Vernon and the Challenger Walter Graff. Both the Gym Leader and the Challenger will battle until three of their Pokémon have be declared unable to battle.” As Jordan continues, two scoreboards emerge from the ceiling, displaying three lit up Poké Balls beside both of your faces. “In addition, only the Challenger will be allowed to make substitutions.” Jordan then looks from one side of the field to the other. “Are the both of you prepared to battle?”

“Yes.” Both you and Vernon reply, taking a single Poké Ball from your belts.

“Then let the battle begin!” Concludes Jordan raising two flags.

>Send out Monsoon

“This is the big one Monsoon, give it your best shot!” You say, releasing your favorite water fowl from his ball. Upon seeing the grin Gym Leader from across the field, Monsoon jumps back and gives you a look of uncertainty. In response you give him a confident thumbs up, prompting Monsoon to puff out his chest and let out a mighty call that would make all Duckletts proud.

“Go, Koffing!” Orders Vernon simply as he stares down your Pokémon with an analytical gaze. He then looks to you and speaks. “As the Challenger, you may have the first move. Use it well.” As Vernon waits, his Koffing expels a small cloud of toxic gas in anticipation.

“Fly as high as you can and hit Koffing from above with Water Gun.” You instruct Monsoon.

With another honk, the hyped up duckling beats his small wings and takes to the skies. Once he is high above the field, Monsoon launches a concentrated stream of water directly at Koffing.

“Stand your ground and use Toxic Spikes.” Orders Vernon

In response, Koffing inflates itself slightly and faces Monsoon’s attack head on, taking minimal damage despite being pushed back by the blast. The poisonous sphere then expands and launches dozens of glowing purple spikes all over the field, briefly giving the ground a dark purple hue before the effect slowly fades. Due to Monsoon’s elevation, he has nothing to fear from this attack, but you know that this will certainly cause problems in the future.

“Counter with Smog.” Vernon retorts.

After shaking off Monsoon’s attack, Koffing expels a thick cloud of gas from his mouth at the duckling’s stationary form. The cloud quickly surrounds Monsoon, causing him to cough and hack as he frantically attempts to get away from the dangerous fumes. As Monsoon emerges from the cloud, it becomes obvious to everyone in the room that he won’t last long in a sustained back and forth with Koffing.

As Monsoon remains in the air awaiting your instructions, you simply look between your Pokémon and Vernon’s as if confused as to what to do next. Mistaking your ruse for uncertainty, Vernon orders Koffing to send another wave of poisonous gas at Monsoon. Just before the attack can smother Monsoon once more however, you intervene.

“Monsoon. use Defog to blow away the cloud and follow up with Water Gun!” You call to the distressed duckling.

At the last second, Monsoon flaps his tiny wings vigorously, creating a large gust of wind that causes Koffing’s noxious attack to dissipate mere inches away from him. As Koffing’s eyes widen with shock, another strong blast of water cuts through the wind and nails the poisonous sphere in the face for a third time. As Koffing recovers from this unexpected turn of events and rises once more, Vernon’s expression remains as stoic as always.

Koffing rises once more and narrows his eyes at Monsoon, spewing thick puffs of smog in frustration. The hope for an easy victory against the duckling has now become a distant memory.

“Koffing, take the fight to him with Assurance.” Orders Vernon, remaining calm.

“Meet his charge with Wing Attack!” You say, refusing to stifle your momentum.

Koffing surrounds himself with in a dark energy field and makes a beeline for his airborne opponent. Monsoon is quick to act and attempts to crash into the toxic sphere with his glowing wings. The two collide, and after a small struggle break off and pass by each other. Koffing falls to the ground yet again, hurt but not defeated. On the other side of the field, Monsoon also goes down but is quick to get back on his feet. Of the two, it’s clear that Monsoon emerged as the victor in this test of strength.

As you take a quick glance at the sidelines, both Jordan and Lyle seem to be fairly impressed by the performance of you and your Pokémon thus far. Even Monsoon seems to surprised at how well he’s doing. Vernon’s face however, still remains as stern and focused as always.

>Toxic Spikes and Assurance

Rolled: Irrelevant
Result(s): Success

Happy with how things are going so far, you continue to apply the pressure. “We have him on the ropes! Use Water Gun once more!”

Monsoon takes to the skies once more and fires another torrent at Koffing who is still licking his wounds.

“Use Toxic Spikes once more and follow up with Assurance.” Vernon commands.

As before, Koffing takes another shot from Monsoon and rises again. Though he has been gradually worn down throughout the battle, Koffing refuses to give in and scatters another round of Toxic Spikes around the field. He then flies after Monsoon and slams into him from above, utilizing the dark energy around him to empower his attack. The attack leaves Monsoon reeling and he plummets towards a bed of poisonous spikes just as Vernon had planned. Unfortunately Monsoon is unable to recover in time and crashes into the ground once more, making contact with many of the spikes as he skids along the floor.

Vernon looks to Jordan as if to remind her of her job but for some reason, she simply continues to observe in silence. Moments later, to both your shock and Vernon’s, Monsoon somehow manages to get up once more despite his injuries, Jordan on the other hand seems to have remember what happened the last time your determined duckling took a nasty spill and wears a subtle yet satisfied smile. Monsoon twitches every few seconds in reaction to the poison, but it seems he has enough in him for one more round.

“Let’s show then how tough you really are Monsoon! Use Defog and Water Gun one more time!”

Pulling himself together, Monsoon whips up a powerful wind and disposes of the poisonous hazards littering the field.

“Finish him off with Assurance.” Commands Vernon.

As Monsoon prepares to nail Koffing with one final blast, the noxious sphere surrounds itself with dark energy once more and rushes at him. Monsoon is barely able to fire off the powerful stream before he is rammed by another powerful charge from Koffing, As Monsoon lies on the ground, Koffing pants heavily as it struggles to hold himself up.

“Ducklett is no longer able to battle,” Proclaims Jordan as she raises one of the flags. “Koffing is the winner.”

Holding out Monsoon’s ball, you recall the battered duckling back to safety. “That Koffing never knew what hit him. Way to hang in there Monsoon.”

As you place Monsoon’s ball back on your belt, you contemplate your next move. Though Vernon’s Koffing is far more formidable than the video lead you to believe, it appears as if a strong wind would be enough to finish him off now. For some reason however, you feel as if Vernon’s plans for Koffing are just beginning.

“Ok Remise, you’re up next!” You announce as you release the ghostly blade onto the field.

In response to seeing the Steel/Ghost Pokémon, Vernon’s eyes narrow slightly, a far cry from whatever outburst you were expecting from him. As a Poison-type Gym Leader, you can imagine that he’s had to put up with many Trainers who put all their weight behind their Pokémon’s immunity to his specialty over the years. Though you can’t say for sure, you think that disappointment in his gaze may have shifted into a twisted form of enthusiasm at some point.

Rolled: Irrelevant
Result(s): Success

Not wanting to fall prey to Vernon’s plan, you decide to go for speed over power. “Remise, use Shadow Sneak and take Koffing out quickly!”

Remise takes on a shadowy glimmer and speeds across the field in seconds, scoring a hit against the weakened Koffing. Unfortunately, he just barely manages to hold on by a thread and begins to hover low to the ground in exhaustion.

On the sidelines, Jordan and Lyle’s expressions tell you that you’ve made a terrible miscalculation. This is soon confirmed by Vernons next command.

“Koffing, focus and use Pain Split.” Vernon orders.

As you watch on in horror, both Remsie and Koffing rise as some useable force grips both of their forms. When the force releases its hold, Koffing looks like he did during the middle of his battle with Monsoon, whereas Remise looks as if he’s already been in a battle for several minutes.

“You were doing well at first,” Vernon comments as your mind races to process what just occured. “It’s a shame that you decided to throw this match away.” The Gym Leader seems much more relaxed now, as if some sort of order has been restored to his world.

‘Oh no.’ You think to yourself as you realize just how dramatically the tide of the battle has turned.

If he’s prepared to deal with Steel and Psychic-types, you know that the Ground typing has a place on his hit list as well. Regardless, you’re sure that the grim Gym Leader isn’t prepared for what your starter brings to the table.

“It’s up to you now Armo.” You say taking his ball and holding it out. “We’re going all out!”

Your armored partner in crime emerges in a flash of light with a yawn and brandishes his flashing claws at his floating opponent, ready for action!

This will work a bit differently from a normal Rollout since everything will presumably take place in one turn. To balance things out, I’ll be treating this as a multi-strike move with a standard BP of 30. The first three anons to respond will roll 1d33 and these rolls will be added up to determine how many times Armo will hit Koffing. These odds may be subject to change if things are too heavily skewed to one side.

Rolled: 38
Result(s): Success

“It seems that you haven’t learned your lesson yet. ” Vernon comments as Armo gets into a fighting stance. “Koffing, set up Toxic Spikes once more.”

As before, Koffing expands and scatters another wave of Toxic Spikes around the field, adding another complication to the battle.

“I think it’s time that Armo and I taught you something!” You retort. “Armo, use Rollout and avoid the spikes!”

Armo takes a running start and curls up, gaining a massive boost in speed as he approaches Koffing.

Vernon simply shakes his head at your tactics. “Rise and stay out of his range.”

As Armo reaches the edge of his section of the field, Koffing floats even higher than before in order to undermine any chances of Armo reaching him with his rolling attack.

Just before Armo runs over the ledge and falls into the polluted water below, you flip Vernon’s plan right on its head. “Jump!” You call out to Armo.

Armo responds to your directions quickly and leaps over the gap, carrying the momentum he built up with him. You balled up companion then slams into Koffing with a considerable amount of force and bounces off of him towards the direction of the ceiling. As everyone looks on with shocked expressions, Armo hits the ceiling and comes crashing back down onto Koffing for a second time, before repeating his performance and rocketing towards the ceiling once more. The noxious ball of gas attempts to recover from Armo’s surprising display of agility but his efforts prove to be in vain as Armo descends upon him once more, forcefully bringing them both back to ground level and flattening Koffing beneath him.

“No way!” Exclaims Lyle from his spot in the stands. Armo strikes an exaggerated pose in response to the praise.

Pushing her shock aside, Jordan raises a flag in Armo’s direction. “Koffing is unable to battle. Sandshrew wins.”

Even Vernon seems somewhat surprised by this sudden turn of events and he returns Koffing to his ball. “Good work as always Koffing, return.” He then retrieves another Poké Ball from his belt and releases a new Pokémon onto the field. “Prepare yourself Stunky.”

“Let’s take him out quickly with Dig!” You say.

“Stunky, use Assurance.” Vernon responds.

Leaping over the river of sludge, Stunky charges at Armo and hits him with a tail empowered by dark energy. Armo is pushed back by Stunky’s aggressive approach but is quick to recover and dives through the ground as if he were taking a swim. For a moment, the action dies down as Armo waits for the perfect opportunity to strike.

After a bit of waiting, your patience is rewarded by the sound of shifting dirt from below.

“Avoid his attack, Stunky.” Vernon commands as the ground becomes uneven.

Unfortunately for the Stunky, Armo’s tunneling speed is far more than the skunk Pokémon was prepared for and he is sent flying as Armo emerges from the ground. As Armo lands back on his feet, Stunky struggles to pick himself back up after taking such a massive hit from the rugged Ground-type.

Though the tide has turned once again, Vernon keeps his cool and continues without hesitation. “Use Nasty Plot and prepare to execute.”

Stunky struggles to his feet and increases his power as a red and orange aura swirls around him.

“This is far from over.” Vernon informs you as Stunky finishes charging up.

>Other (Use Rollout through the tunnel to build momentum)

>Nasty Plot and Acid Spray

Rolled: Irrelevant
Result(s): Success

“We’re finishing this now! Armo, use Rollout and aim from the tunnel.”

Armo curls up once more and begins rolling backwards towards the hole he had used to attack Stunky from.

“Use Nasty Plot again and follow up with Acid Spray.” Vernon commands.

As Armo continues to withdraw, Stunky powers up once more and sends a spray of corrosive liquid onto Armo’s curled up form. The attack does little to stop the armored rodent’s escape however and he disappears into the tunnel once more.

“Chase him down.” Says Vernon simply, intent on stopping Armo before he can cause any more damage.

The skunk Pokémon nods and chases Armo through the tunnel. Seconds after Stunky disappears down the hole Armo emerges from the other side and flies into the air before coming back down and falling into the hole once more. You hear the sound of panicked squeaks and before you know it, Stunky scrambles out of the tunnel in a hurry, only to be run over by Armo and his increased momentum. As Stunky lies face first on the ground, Jordan raises her flag again.

“Stunky is unable to battle! Sandshrew wins!”

“So what have we learned?” You ask Vernon smugly as he returns Stunky to his ball.

“I’ve learned that I’ve been far too lenient in the past. If people like you still think that battling is simply a matter of exploiting weaknesses then I haven’t been doing my job properly. I think it’s time that your methods came back to bite you.”

Vernon takes off one last Poké Ball from his belt and releases a spiky looking fish into the polluted water. It then emerges from the depths and flashes an angry glare at Armo, causing him to take a cautionary step back.

“Now the real battle begins.” States Vernon, brimming with conviction.

Vernon simply narrows his eyes at the both of you and prepares to execute his latest plan.

“Your opponent is worn down, finish him off with Aqua Jet.” Vernon commands as the two Pokémon on the field stare each other down.

Qwilfish puffs himself up and begins circling the field at an unbelievable pace in order to take Armo by surprise. Armo attempts to keep a watchful eye at the spiky blurred menace but neither he nor you can keep track of his movements. What you do see however, is a risky opportunity to finish this fight before it even begins. As quickly as he approached , Qwilfish leaps from the water and hurls himself at Armo while surrounded by a trail of murky water. There’s no doubt that this move has the capability to do some serious damage, and that is what you’re counting on to win the day.

“Brace yourself and use Counter Armo!” You call just before Qwilfish makes contact.

Result(s): King of the Ground-types

Armo glows a bright orange color and puts his arms in front of him in order to absorb the oncoming blow. This does little to protect Armo as he is struck with the full force of the speeding Qwilfish and his watery cloak. The attack pushes Armo back several feet and eventually, Qwilfish breaks through the rugged shrew’s defenses and knocks him off of his feet. Qwilfish then rockets past him and lands back into the water where it watches the aftermath of its devastating attack as Armo collapses to the ground. For what seems like hours, Armo remains on the ground motionless, but the orange aura surrounding him proves that he’s somehow managing to hold on. Suddenly, Armo springs to life once more and rises to his feet as the aura surrounding him grows exponentially. As everyone looks on with awe, Armo curls up and rolls towards the hazardous water without a care in the world before leaping high into the air. He then ricochets off of the ceiling once more and performs a cannonball right on top of the stunned Qwilfish, bringing them both under and splashing foul smelling water all over the room with a deafening smack.

Another long period of waiting begins as everyone watches the water with undivided attention. After a while, bubbles start to rise to the surface of the water. At first they are infrequent but they then become more numerous, only to be disrupted by Armo breaking through the surface of the water and collapsing next to a startled Jordan. As soon as Armo makes it back on dry ground, the unconscious form of Qwilfish floats to the surface, drifting only a few feet away from where Armo initially landed.

“Both Qwilfish and Sandshrew are unable to battle!” Jordan announces raising both flags. “However, all members of the Gym Leader’s team has been defeated. Therefore, the winner is the Challenger Walter Graff from Cycad Town!”

“All right!” You cheer, rushing over to the sidelines while trying your best not ruin the moment by slipping.

Upon reaching Armo, you pick up the drenched Sandshrew and hold him above your head. “We did it Armo! We just won our first badge together!”

Armo coughs up some water and gives you a tired yet satisfied look as he shakes some more water off of him. Realizing just how exhausted your dependable starter is, you remove his ball from your belt and recall him for a long rest. “You’re the best starter a Trainer could ask for.”

As you put Armo’s ball away, the room’s three occupants begin to approach you, some looking a bit more pleased than others.

>Talk to Vernon

“I would be lying if I said that I was convinced by your performance,” Vernon begins as he approaches you. “What I can’t argue with however, is results. If nothing else, by facing me you’ve proven that you have the right to call yourself a Trainer.”

“Thanks, I guess. I appreciate you accepting my challenge on your day off.” You say, doing your best to keep things professional.

“My work is never done, there’s still a few matters for me to take care of. Before I get to that, I must carry out the rest of my duties as a Gym Leader.” Vernon reaches into his pocket and withdraws a small remote. With the push of a button, a pedestal containing a purple badge and disk rises from the ground beside him. “In recognition of your victory, I award you with the Stinger Badge and this TM containing the move Poison Jab.”

You graciously accept both items as Vernon continues. “Though this is only a small step in your journey, I feel confident kn saying that in time, I will have the opportunity to test you once more in one capacity or another.” Vernon then looks at the state of the room and shakes his head. “If you’ll excuse me, I need to call someone to repair the damages.”

Between the upturned ground, dented ceiling, and all water covering the area, Armo certainly made a mess of the place. “Sorry about that, Armo’s battling style can be a little destructive sometimes.”

“Think nothing of it. Despite his reckless use of his surroundings, I can tell that there is skill hidden underneath that raw ability. You would do well to make good use of it.” With that, Vernon turns and begins walking towards a door located on the far side of the room.

You take another look at the badge in your hand, feeling a sense of pride that you’ve never known before. Though Vernon is right in saying that this is only the beginning, in this moment, you feel as if you’ve become Isoin’s newest Champion. Your internal celebration is interrupted however, as you remember that Armo was under those poisonous waters for quite some time. Along with Monsoon and to a lesser extent, Remise, Armo is in need of medical attention.

>Use the restoration station in the Gym and hang out with your “rivals”

“Is there a healing station here?” You ask Jordan as Vernon exits the room. “That water probably poisoned Armo.”

“More like badly poisoned.” Corrects Jordan as she picks up a towel that was conveniently sitting on the bleachers. “We should get him to the station before his condition gets worse.” She says as she attempts to dry herself off.

“Lead the way.” You reply.

With a “follow me” motion, Jordan leads you around the field to another door on the room’s west side. As you step inside, you find yourself in the Gym’s in-house Pokémon Center where you insert your battle worn teammates into one of the many healing stations lined up along the walls. The two of you are soon joined by Lyle who is quick to congratulate you.

“So, how does victory taste Champ?” Asks Lyle as he closes the door behind him.

“It feels familiar,” You say, a smile creeping onto your face. “Almost as if I had predicted it a few weeks ago.”

“I was wondering how long it would take for you to start gloating.” Jordan says. “You know there were at least four different ways he could’ve won that battle right?” Despite her words, you can tell that she’s somewhat impressed with you how far you’ve come in such a short period of time.

“Maybe you should start being Vernon’s coach instead of his part time secretary and ref.” Lyle chuckles.

“They both did well, but Vernon was too busy trying to teach Walter a lesson instead of winning.” Jordan insists.

Lyle simply shrugs in response. “Well there’s always next time. If he’s lucky, he’ll battle Vernon again in the tournament.”

cont.
>>
>>4324587
“Wait, why is Vernon battling in the tournament?” You ask.

“There’s a spot opening up on the Elite Four and he wants it badly. If you asked him yourself, he’d give you a big speech about it.” Jordan explains, rolling her eyes. “He says that he’s tired of ‘separating the wheat from the chaff.’”

“He’s doing a pretty good job either way.” Lyle interjects. “You don’t see as many scrubs entering the tournament anymore thanks to him. Remember back when the Tourmalines used to run this Gym?”

“I’d rather not.”

“So I’m guessing that you’re taking over the Gym if he becomes a member?” You ask Jordan.

“She wishes,” Says Lyle with a cocky smirk. “Everyone knows that I’m the best Trainer this city will ever see.”

“Your the only one in this room without a badge.” Jordan reminds him.

“I simply avoid battling Vernon because I respect his craft. If he wants a real battle without a ton of rules and limitations then I’ll be the one to give it to him! I just need some time to get ready.”

“It won’t be much of a fight if all you ever do is battle me every day and occasionally go to the Battle Circuit.”

“You’re just good competition that’s all.” Says Lyle defensively. “If I could find a better rival, you’d be lucky to get another battle with me.”

“Sure.” Jordan laughs.

As the two continue bantering, you feel a buzz in your pocket, prompting you to reach inside and dig out the phone you had stolen from the hitman. You have no idea who could be messaging you considering the fact that you’ve never given your number out to anyone and if you’re being honest with yourself, you don’t want to know.

With a sigh, you check your phone and check the messages. Once again, the message contains many references to places, people, and events that you were unaware of before. One section that catches your eye however, is a short sentence referring to the kidnapping of someone named “RH” along with several other who were apparently connected to the museum. It doesn’t take you long to figure out that RH is Gabe’s father, but who took him and what they wanted with him along with several other archeologists and technicians is beyond you. Thinking back, you also remember the chaos that occurred yesterday and then it dawns on you—the empty streets, Vernon’s referral to “yesterday’s incident”, and this message must all be connected.

>Notify Vernon and the authorities without getting involved

“Is something wrong?” Asks Lyle, taking notice of your shift in mood.

“We need to get Vernon and go to the police.” You explain.

“What’s this about?” Jordan inquires.

“I don’t know the full story, but we need to get moving before someone gets hurt.”

You deactivate the healing station and place the three balls back onto your belt as Lyle throws the door open and exits the room in a hurry. Jordan is quick to follow his lead and you trail after her in the direction of Vernon’s office. By the time you make it to the door, both Vernon and Lyle emerge from the room with the energized skater already making his way towards the front entrance.

“You can explain what you know on the way.” Vernon says as he passes you.

Moments later, the four of you are packed into Vernon’s car and speeding through the streets on your way to the police station. As Vernon drives, you explain what you could interpret from the message and how it may relate to the events of yesterday.

“I had a feeling this wasn’t over.” Vernon comments as he makes another sharp turn.

“Do you know what this is all about?” You ask as you jerk to one side.

“There was an attack on an armored car caravan and a raid on the Safari Zone carried out by Team Offset yesterday. I assumed the two were connected and that the raid was simply a distraction but there was no way to prove it. It seems that whoever was behind the ambush needs someone to tie up any remaining loose ends.”

“Do you know who these loose ends are?”

“I can only hazard a guess. As soon as we get in contact with the authorities we should have more information to work with.”

>Bring up the robbery at the Pokémon Center

“Did you hear about the robbery on Tuesday?” You ask as the wild ride continues.

“I was informed of it by the police as soon as they received a call,” Vernon replies. “But that case seems to be an isolated incident. There were no attacks on any other Pokémon Centers that night and none of the Pokémon who were reported as missing have shown up on any illegal markets.”

“Even stranger, Team Offset didn’t take responsibility for the robbery.” Jordan adds. “It’s almost as if the two thieves didn’t have any help in planning the heist.”

“All we know for sure is that they’ve been much more active in these last few months. I have a feeling that these robberies and kidnappings are only the beginning.” With that statement, Vernon pulls into the parking lot of the police station and takes the first spot he sees. He then turns in his seat to face you. “Are you coming along?”

“I’d rather not get involved.” You reply handing over the stolen phone.

Vernon nods. “I understand. I won’t keep you here against your will, but I suggest you stay here until everything is sorted out. I doubt that anyone would be foolish enough to cause trouble in front of a police station .”

The Gym Leader takes a quick look at the message before exiting the car, leaving the three of you alone.

“What a letdown, I thought we were gonna see some action.” Lyle complains.

“We only have an idea of what’s going on.” You reply. “We’d only be getting in the way,”

“No one ever starts out knowing everything, but that’s no excuse not to try and figure things out. The cops will be going through that old phone of yours for days.”

“What are you suggesting?” Jordan asks.

“We know that Team Offset hit the Safari Zone, right? Since it’s only a few blocks away, I say we go over there and check things out.”

“The whole place is an active crime scene, what can we do that they aren’t already doing.”

“We won’t know until we get there now will we?” Lyle retorts as he lies back in his seat. “Besides, we might find some of the escaped Pokémon wandering around the area. Just sitting around won’t do anyone any favors.”

>Go to the Safari Zone

“You may actually have a point,” you say, shifting in your seat. “If nothing else, we can at least catch some new Pokémon and if we happen to find anything about the break in then we can tell somebody.”

“I always have a point, people just need to look outside of the box to see it.” Lyle then begins to drum on the back of Jordan’s headrest. “So, aren’t you gonna tag along to keep us out of trouble?” He asks jokingly.

Jordan exhales and quickly types out a message on her phone before opening her door. “Let’s get going.”

The three of you exit the car and begin walking through the mostly empty sidewalks towards the Nucite City Safari Zone. Along the way, you tell the others about your journey to the city and elaborate on what you’ve been doing since you first came. Jordan and Lyle take great interest in your tale and ask you about your future plans. You admit that you haven’t decided on where to go next but you know for a fact that you plan on taking on another Gym as soon as possible. You know that the closest Gyms are located in Seloras City and Aresi City but your knowledge on the Gym Leaders there is limited to what little you managed to see on TV. As you discuss the pros and cons of going to one city or the other, you get the feeling that your being watched but you simply chalk it up to the fact that you’re walking with the Gym Leader’s younger sister and try to focus on the conversation. Eventually, you stop a few blocks away from your destination and look on at all of the police cars surrounding the area. The place is practically covered in yellow tape and several roadblocks section off the Safari Zone from the rest of the city.

“So what’s your plan now, genius?” Jordan questions as the police officers watch you from a distance.

Lyle’s eyes take on a mischievous look. “I’ve got a little trick up my sleeve to get us in.”

Both you and Jordan cross your arms and look at the eccentric skater skeptically. “Now this I have to see.” You reply.

Lyle subtly motions for the two of you to follow him and he takes you across the street and into a nearby alleyway. After giving the place a once over and a subsequent nod of approval, Lyle turns back towards to both you and Jordan.

“If any of you wanna back out now, this is your chance to do so without looking totally lame.” Lyle announces with a grin.

“Bring it on.” You reply boldly.

Lyle grins at your response and reaches for one of the three Poké Balls on his belt. He then twirls the ball around on his finger and releases a Shellos onto the ground. “Hey Shellos, can you help us get up there?”

Shellos lets out an inaudible gurgle and Lyle kneels down, allowing Shellos to crawl all over his hands, covering them with slime. He then applies some of the gel to the bottom of his shoes and begins climbing the wall without any hesitation.

After a minute of climbing, the skater makes it to the roof top and pokes he head over the side. “Don’t keep me waiting up here guys!”

Jordan shakes her head in disbelief and extends her hands towards Shellos. The sea slug repeats the process and soon Jordan’s hands are covered in the sticky substance as well. “I should’ve hung out with Audrey today.” She grumbles as she begins scaling the small building.

Shellos looks at you with confusion as if unsure wether you’re a part of the group.

“Yeah, I’m with them.” You say, holding your hands.

Shellos cautiously crawls over your hands causing your fingers to practically stick together. The slime is a bit more cold and wet than you would have expected but you do your best to ignore it and apply the slime to the tips of your shoes. You then approach the wall and begin to slowly climb up the structure. As you start your slow ascent, Shellos breezes past you and Jordan, making her way to the roof within no time. For you, the climb is far more difficult and you even have a few close calls as the amount of slime on your hands and shoes begins to run out. Though, you make it to the top without falling to the ground below, the experience was nothing short of nerve racking.

As you lie down on the rooftop to catch your breath, Lyle begins scoping out the Safari Zone down below. “Ok, on to phase two. I hope you none of you are afraid of heights.”

“Where exactly do you think we are?” Jordan asks as she takes a seat on the ledge.

“I meant to say flying.” Lyle states, correcting himself. “If I’ve got this right, we should land right in the middle of the Safari Zone.”

“What’s next?” You ask as you join the others on the ledge.

Lyle wipes the remaining slime off of his hands and takes out another Poké Ball. “You’re up next Drifloon!” The skater tosses the ball into the air and purple balloon Pokémon emerges in a flash of light.

Drifloon takes a look at his surroundings, prompting Lyle to point at an open field in the Safari Zone. In response, Drifloon uses his string like appendages to make a shrugging motion.

“Don’t worry, you aren’t carrying us down there.” Lyle replies. “Remember the move I taught you yesterday?”

Drifloon nods and floats into Lyle’s arms. “Three, two, one, lift off!” Lyle chants before throwing the balloon Pokémon high into the air. As soon as his upward momentum fizzles out, Drifloon begins to drift down to his destination.

“And now we wait.” Lyle announces brimming with excitement.

After several minutes of waiting, Drifloon becomes nothing more than a purple speck in the distance, prompting Lyle to extend his hand towards both you and Jordan. “He should be there any second now so you better hold on tight.”

“How is he supposed to help us from over there?” You ask as you compare the distance between the rooftop and the spot where Lyle had pointed out.

“I taught him a new trick for situations like these.” Lyle explains as he squints into the distance. “It’s not much help in a regular battle but getting around is super easy with it. Just make sure you don’t scream.”

The three of you stand near the ledge hand in hand as you wait for Drifloon to deliver. Seconds later, you find yourself being yanked by Lyle as a powerful force sends him over the edge, dragging both you and Jordan with him. You do your best to resist the urge to scream as buildings and streets below you go flying by as the force continues to drag your group towards your destination. Along the way you pass Drifloon, who gives the three of you a cheerful wave as he crosses your path. The trip them abruptly ends, and you find yourself standing back on solid ground and inside the sprawling Safari Zone.

“Am I a genius or what?” Lyle asks spreading his arms out wide as he looks back at the building where you were originally standing.

“Well you didn’t get us killed so there is that.” You say as you look around for any signs of life.

“We should get moving before anyone knows where here.” Jordan asserts. “The farther we get from the entrance, the less likely we’ll get caught.”

Lyle shakes his head and points back at the building. “I’m gonna wait for Drifloon to float back down here, I’ll catch up later.”

“Just make sure nobody see you” Jordan then turns towards you. “Since you’re leaving in a few days, you can decide where we search.”

You take a look at your wrist and begin to scroll through the small number of apps built into your new Poké Watch. Upon activating the tracker function, you click on the specific type that you’re looking for and the radar begins to point you towards the few Electric-type Pokémon in the general area.

“Let’s search over there.” You say as you point in the direction of one of the markers.

“Alright, but remember, we need to be as quiet as possible.” Jordan warns as she takes a cautionary look around. “If we send our Pokémon out against the Pokémon here, the battle will attract unwanted attention.”

“Got it.” You reply simply as you begin following the watch’s directions.

After a short hike you find yourself in an open field with a few trees scattered around. As you take another look at your watch, you find that you’re right on top of the marker.

“I think I found something,” you say, focusing your gaze on the tall grass.

“I wasn’t planning on sneak into the Safari Zone today.” Jordan reminds you as she checks her pockets. After a few seconds, she manages to find a single Great Ball. “This is the only one I have on me.” She says as she enlarges it and tosses the ball to you.

“I’m feeling lucky.” You reply as you enlarge the Great Ball.

You tense your arm and take aim at the oblivious Budew before flinging the ball in its direction. The ball bounces off of the top of Budew and draws it in as it falls to the ground. Once it lands, the ball shakes around for a few seconds until the capture is completed and announced with a small click.

“Yes!” You exclaim you approach the Great Ball and pick it up. “That makes six!”

“How soon are throwing it into the deep end?” Jordan asks playfully as you take out your Pokédex.

“Let’s see what I’m working with first.” You say as you scan the Great Ball.

After the scan is complete, your Pokédex displays the following information.

Budew Lv. 10
Moves: Absorb, Growth, Stun Spore, Sleep Powder
Ability: Natural Cure
Nature: Calm

“I think this will work out just fine.” You remark as you put the Pokédex away. “Now what should I call it?” You wonder out loud.

After giving it some thought, you come up with a fitting name for your new teammate and store her ball on the last notch on your belt. “I guess we can get going then.” You announce, turning your back on the pond.

“Sorry you didn’t get the full experience.” Jordan says as you make you way back to her.

“Well it’s not like I didn’t get anything out of it, and I’d say that scaling a building and flying into the Safari Zone was an experience on its own.”

“Speak of which, we should go find Lyle,” Jordan says as the two of you begin walking back. “Since he planned this whole stunt he should have an escape plan.”

“Armo could always dig us out.” You reply. “Going under is probably safer than trying to get over the walls.”

Before Jordan can respond, a large black figure comes flying towards you at breakneck speeds, leaving a trail of torn up grass in its wake. You both manage to leap out of the way at the last second, causing the silhouette to pass by harmlessly with the wind whipping past you as you scramble to your feet.

“What was that?!” Jordan exclaims as she springs back up on high alert.

“No clue.” You respond simply, watching the shadowy mass touch down.

“I’m going to go check it out.” You say, brushing the dirt from your pants.

“I’ll come up with something.” You reply as you creep towards the shadow.

Once you get closer to the silhouette, the illusion around the figure dissipates and a shower of black feathers swirls around the newly revealed Honchkrow and its rider dressed in all black. The sight of these new arrivals stops you in your tracks and causes you to take a step back. Despite the considerable amount of distance between you and them, it still feels as if you’re far too close.

“Hello Walter,” Says the man as his Pokémon steps aside. “I believe we have some unfinished business. Your death is long overdue.”

“Who are you?” Jordan demands as she approaches the scene.

“My name, is not important. Especially not for someone in your position.” Though the man’s eyes are obscured by his shades, you can still feel his cold stare tearing at you. “Vigoroth, come out and face our prey.”

The man tosses and Ultra Ball onto the grass, summoning the large Vigoroth from within. Upon seeing you, it roars in anger and brandishes its thick claws.

The man then steps back and allows his two Pokémon to take point. “I don’t know how you managed to evade the both of us during our last encounter, but I assure you, there will be no escape this time.”

Monsoon, having never met or heard of Lyle, tilts his head in confusion.

“He’s wearing a bright blue helmet, you can’t miss him.”

Monsoon nods and turns away before taking off towards where you and Lyle parted ways.

“Now to deal with you.” You say to the hitman in a low and threatening tone.

“Get them.” Orders the hitman, prompting his Pokémon to charge.

“Tyrogue, start off with Fake Out on Honchkrow! Fletchinder, follow up with Flame Charge!”

Fletchinder performs a barrel roll and flings a battle ready Tyrogue at the dark bird. Before he lands, small bruiser claps his hands together and creates a shockwave that rattles Honchkrow and disrupts his focus. Tyrogue is then immediately recalled by Jordan just before a flame enveloped Fletchinder rams into Honchkrow.

On your end of the battle, Vigoroth charges at you and your group with bloodshot eyes as he prepares to deliver a devastating slash.

“Intercept him with Rollout!” You say to Armo who then immediately takes off towards his opponent. You then get Sephira’s attention and point towards the other skirmish. “Follow up their attacks with Fire Spin!”

Armo’s curled up form slams into Vigoroth’s midsection and bounces off harmlessly as he continues his frenzied charge. As Armo turns around for another pass, Vigoroth approaches Sephira and dispatches her with one brutal slash that puts her in the dirt several feet away from you. He then let’s out a roar and turns to you, raising his claws.

Taking a step back, you withdraw Roseae’s ball and send her into the fray. Budew seems unfazed by the rabid mass of fur in front of her and continues to soak in the sun’s rays as if nothing had happened within the last five minutes. Armo, on the other hand has his head in the game and after making a sharp turn, he rolls at Vigoroth once again. Unfortunately, Vigoroth is more than ready for Armo’s signature move and meets his charge with a vicious swipe that stops the armored rodent in his tracks and sends him flying off to the side. Armo struggles to pick himself back up after taking such a powerful attack but he quickly slumps back to the ground and out of the fight.

A little ways away, the fight between Jordan’s team and Honchkrow rages on with Tyrogue being sent back out and Fletchinder doing her best to evade any oncoming attacks. A quick search for Monsoon and Lyle yields no results.

With Armo and Sephira out of the way, the Vigoroth gives you his full attention and prepares for another wild swing.

“Leave him to me, I want to end his life with my own hands.” The hitman’s orders

With his new directive set in stone, Vigoroth is forced to change tactics and yawns loudly in your direction, prompting you to yawn in response as your body begins to shut down.

“Roseae....use Stun.....Spore and slow him......down.” You say as you struggle to stay on your feet.

In response, the tiny bud Pokémon stands up and casually approaches Vigoroth. She then blasts the savage Pokémon with a cloud of yellow pollen that forces him to go on the defensive as he attempts to rid himself of the countless spores. As you watch the scene unfold with heavy eyelids, you sit down and select Remise from your belt, sending him out as well.

As Vigoroth continues to back away from the cloud of spores, you reach out and grab Roseae, holding her just above your head.

“Quick....use Stun Spore on me......too.” You murmur as your vision darkens.

Roseae shakes her head once more and a cloud of golden pollen rains down upon you. Now instead of feeling exhausted, you simply feel a numb, tingly sensation coursing through your body. You movements are still somewhat sluggish, but at the very least you’ll be able to stay in the game.

“Remise, attack Vigoroth with Fury Cutter.” You say as recall your fallen Pokémon.

Remise floats in front of you and points his tip at Vigoroth before charging at him. The savage Pokémon attempts to meet Remise’s charge with an attack of his own, but his arm tenses up at the last second and the energy in his claws are dispelled. The haunted blade then swings himself at Vigoroth, scoring a clean hit, leaving a trail of white aura with his slash.

Turning towards the other side of the fight, you watch as Tyrogue and Fletchinder continue their attempts to wear down Honchkrow who looks far more annoyed than hurt. You then look behind you to find Monsoon’s outline approaching in the distance.

“Use Fury Cutter again Remise, and Roseae, follow up with Absorb!” You instruct your few remaining Pokémon.

Remise flies towards Vigoroth once more with the intent to slash at him again. This time however, his opponent is able to ignore the paralysis and meets Remise’s swing with a brutal Shadow Claw, knocking Remise aside just like Sephira and Armo before him. As Vigoroth stands over his defeated foe, Roseae steps up once again and attacks, siphoning small green orbs of energy from the ruthless Vigoroth. This does little more than provoke him further but Roseae seems unfazed by the threat Vigoroth poses.

Suddenly, the action is interrupted by a familiar yet shaky voice. “Nosepass, use Surge Storm!” Calls a disheveled looking Lyle from a distance.

As Lyle’s words echo through the field, dozens of rocks are sent flying and begin swirling around the area. The rocks are then surrounded by an electric charge which jumps from rock to rock, shocking everyone in the vicinity indiscriminately. One stray bolt manages to strike you as well, but due to the effects from Roseae’s Stun Spore, you hardly feel anything. When the light show finally comes to and end, small sparks begin coursing through both the hitman, Jordan, and Fletchinder as they struggle to move.

“Lyle!” Jordan yells in frustration as a grinning Honchkrow takes notice of the shift in momentum.

“You can yell at me later!” Lyle answers back, as he and Nosepass hastily makes their way on the scene. “We gotta get out of here now! These guys are too much for us!”

“Disregard my initial orders,” The hitman commands as he struggles to walk towards you. “Kill them where they stand.”

“Running doesn’t seem like a bad idea right about now.” You muse, recalling both Remise and Roseae.”Thanks for your help Monsoon.” You say as you recall the loyal duckling as well.

Realizing that his prey intends to run, Honchkrow spreads his dark wings and prepares to engage in a pursuit while Jordan recalls Fletchinder and attempts to fight through the paralysis. “Tyrogue cover me with Double Team!”

As he runs along with Jordan, Tyrogue creates several copies of himself, confusing the indecisive bird as he struggles to choose a target.

With everything just about wrapped up, you turn to run only to hear the sounds of an irate Vigoroth charging towards you with the hitman hot on his heels. Despite your condition, you manage to avoid Vigoroth’s initial swipe with a well timed dodge and continue to converge on Lyle’s position. Fueled by adrenaline, you quicken your already impressive pace and widen the gap between you and your enemies. In preparation for your arrival, Lyle recalls Nosepass and holds out his hands towards you and Jordan.

“We’ll need to catch Drifloon when we make the jump!” Lyle informs you as you arrive at his side. Jordan arrives seconds later and recalls Tyrogue before accepting Lyle’s hand.

As soon as you all join together, Lyle is pulled by the ominous force once again, dragging everyone into the air as your three pursuers continue to give chase. Their diminished speed is insufficient however, and the three of you are pulled out of harms way and towards the gates of the Safari Zone once more. Within no time, you cross paths with Drifloon once again and embrace him in a makeshift net of tangled limbs, subsequently bringing the trip to an abrupt stop just as you clear the gates.

“Use Gust! Use Gust!” Lyle shouts as the ground approaches quickly.

The eerie balloon Pokémon is quick to react and summons a powerful wind beneath him, slowing your descent as your combined weight continues to pull you down. Despite Drifloon’s best efforts, the landing is still rough as you tumble through the grass just outside of the Safari Zone. Thankfully, aside from a handful of bruises, no one is seriously hurt in the improvised landing and you are all quick to pick yourselves up and flee the scene.

“That could’ve been worse.” Lyle comments as you walk through the alleys of Nucite City moments later.

“That doesn’t make it better.” Jordan replies, lagging behind along with you.

“Look I panicked ok. That psycho almost took my head off while I was waiting for Drifloon to come back!”

“So your plan to stop him from doing that was to paralyze everyone?” You interject, raising an eyebrow.

“Hey man, I was just rolling with what I had, I wasn’t planning on fighting assassins today.”

“But sneaking into the Safari Zone after Team Offset broke in the day before was just another one of you daily stunts?” Jordan counters.

“Forget about me, an assassin literally tried to kill us a few minutes ago!” Lyle exclaims, throwing his hands up. ”Are we gonna pretend that didn’t just happen?”

“Maybe we should find a safer place to talk about this.” You suggest as you take a quick look over your shoulder.

After a bit of discussion, the three of you agree to travel to the Pokémon Center to rest and talk about important matters. The walk takes much longer than it should due to the paralysis, but you eventually arrive at your destination without running into any trouble. You checking in your Pokémon and immediately go to your room with Jordan and Lyle following closely behind.

“Do you really think we lost him?” Lyle asks as you close the door behind you.

“He was tracking me through his phone,” you explain as you make your way into the main area. “Since that’s still at the police station with Vernon, he can’t find us that way.”

“He’d have to be crazy to come here anyway.” Jordan says. “If Walter and I could hold him off—“

“For like, two minutes tops.” Lyle interrupts.

“Yeah, we wouldn’t have made it if we stayed in the fight for another minute.” You agree.

“I was holding my own.” Jordan insists.

“How did you even get on that guy’s bad side?” Lyle asks, changing the subject. “When I ran into him he mentioned something about hunting you down all the way from Cycad Town.”

Let's tell them just enough.
Fist ask them to keep secret, then tell them it's because we caught Remise and Sephira, they were research subjects in some wack and shifty experiment, one of the guys in charge said it was ok to keep then but someone else sent that hitman on us because we kept the mons and we know too much also... on our first run with the guy we got the jump on him and his vigoroth and kicked their asses so there's that.

>Tell them about the Vanishing Landscape

“I got tangled up in a dangerous and complicated situation last week,” you begin as you take a seat on the bed. “It all started when my friend tried to help me catch some new Pokémon on Route 2.”

For the next ten minutes, you describe the events of last week including the capture of Sephira and Remise, Lance’s interrogation, the encounter with the hitman and his Vigoroth, and the Trainers’ School encounters as well as the final confrontation in the woods. You leave out a few of the more personal or unnecessary details in your explanation, but the information you provided is more than enough to satisfy the curiosity of your guests.

“Man, I’d hate to be in your shoes right now.” Lyle states from his spot at your desk.

“Really? That’s all you took away from his story?” Questions Jordan.

Lyle simply shrugs in response. “I mean, the stuff about the morphing landscapes and tower was pretty cool too, but I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night knowing those guys were after me.”

“They aren’t after me anymore.” You say, shifting out of your relaxed position. “Aaron and I dealt with everyone that came at us and those tracking chips are out in the middle of nowhere. If I didn’t take that guy’s phone with me, none of this would’ve happened.”

“It wouldn’t hurt to keep your guard up.” Jordan asserts. “It sounds like there’s some pretty powerful people in charge of that experiment. They could have eyes and ears all over Isoin.”

“I’m not worth the trouble,” you reply simply. “They’ve spent more than enough time and money dealing with me already.”

“If VAR Industrieshas anything to do with this, I don’t think they’re worried about spending too much money.”

“Either way, I’m not stopping for them or anyone else.” You say with conviction. “I’ve already come too far.”

“You just barely managed to win your first badge a few hours ago.” Jordan reminds you.

“Then I’ll just keep scraping by and winning until I reach the top.”

“That’s the spirit,” Lyle says, with a nod of approval. “Of course, you’ll have to go through me first.”

“Yeah, maybe if you were planning on challenging a Gym Leader sometime this decade.” Jordan remarks, earning a glare from her friend. She then turns to you with a more serious look on her face. “So what do you plan on doing next? You talked about wanting to start traveling again earlier.”

“What about yours?”

“That Honchkrowcouldn’t even touch us.” Jordan boasts. “You, on the other hand…”

“Yeah, I know, I’m amazing.” Lyle jokes. “If it’s really that bad, I’ll try to find some Cheri Berries for you.” He offers more seriously.

“I have a few right here.” You announce, taking one of the few remaining berries from the bag beside your bed.

“Thanks.” Jordan says as you toss it to her. After finishing the berry, the sparks running along her body vanish.

As you take the last berry for yourself, Jordan stretches her limbs and takes a look at the clock.

“We still need to get back to Vernon.” Jordan says to Lyle. “I told him we were all going out to eat so we should’ve been back by now. Hopefully he’ll still be busy when we get there.”

“Oh yeah, I totally forgot.” Lyle sighs. “It was nice hanging with you man, I guess we’ll catch you later.”

“I’m sure you will.” You say as the two begin to make their exit. “Just make sure that you don’t tell anyone what I told you.”

“No problem!” Lyle calls as he disappears through the doorway.

Before leaving, Jordan stops at the door and turns around. “Congrats again on your win Walter.”

Once Jordan leaves the room, you find yourself alone once again, but unlike before, the silence isn’t as deafening as it once was. Not only have you reached a milestone today, but you might have even made some new friends along the way. Your journey so far hasn’t been an easy one, but

“You’ve come a long way Walter.” You say to yourself as you flop back onto the bed.

When you wake up, you find your Pokéballs sitting on the table beside you. As usual, Armo is out of his ball and lounging at the foot of the bed with his eyes glued to the TV.

“How did you even learn how to do that?” You ask, not expecting any sort of reply from the mesmerized shrew.

Currently, Armo is watching a generic reality show and he seems to be enjoying himself. Shaking your head in disapproval, you get out of bed and check the clock. Evening is coming soon, and though you’ve had a pretty action packed day, you still don’t feel like sitting around in a room for the next several hours.”

Before going out, you decide to give Nathan a quick update on your progress so far. Due to the fact that your phone is now packed away in an evidence locker, you instead make use of the corded landline phone sitting on your nightstand.

“Hey Nathan, it’s me again.” You begin once your call is answered. “I had to ditch my other phone.”

“Don’t tell me you’ve been stealing phones to get by now.” Nathan jokes. “I thought you Trainers were supposed to be squeezing money out of each other.”

“I wish it was that simple,” you say more to yourself than to him. “I’m using one of the phones at the Pokémon Center right now.”

“And here I thought I was starting to rub off on you.” Nathan says with a laugh. “Glad to hear that you’re staying safe out there.”

“As safe as possible anyway,” you reply. “I got a few things done since Wednesday.”

“I’m all ears.”

“The first thing I did was handle Gabe’s debt. He couldn’t give me all of the money without getting us in trouble, so he’ll be traveling with me until he can work something out.”

“Make sure you keep an eye on him kid, he can be pretty slippery when he feels like it. Come to think of it, he’s probably hanging around you just so he doesn’t have to go on that expedition.”

“I don’t think he’s worried about that anymore. You heard about the museum heist right?”

“That’s all anyone’s talking about down here. The crazy thing is, they didn’t take any jewelry or anything that people would actually bother paying for.” As he speaks, Nathan’s tone shifts to one of nostalgia. “I might be showing my age here, but back in my day, we just took the cash and jewels and went on our way. Criminals these days are trying to be like cartoon villains.”

“I guess so.”

“It sounds like you have more tell me. What else is new with you?”

“I got my first badge today.” You reply proudly.

“Seriously?” Nathan says in disbelief. “I don’t remember you asking me to get you a badge.”

“Well ain’t that something? You only got your license a week ago and you’re already making a splash.”

“It’s not like I have any fans or a case full of badges, but I’m getting there.” You reply modestly.

“It’s a crying shame you didn’t make the cut the first time around,” Nathan muses. “You’d probably be the champ by now.”

Hearing him say this brings back many unpleasant memories. “Yeah…maybe.” You reply finally.

“Hey, cheer up kid. I’m not gonna pretend to know much about this Trainer thing, but it sounds like you have a good thing going. Just keep at it, and you’ll be at the top of the heap in no time!”

“I guess I have to let go of the past at some point. Thanks again for your help.”

“Don’t worry about it, you know I’ve always got your back.”

“I’m going to get some fresh air.” You say, unsure of how to end the conversation. “It was nice talking to you again.”

“Anytime kid.” Nathan replies.

After hanging up, you check the clock once more and put on your shoes. You don’t know exactly where you’re going tonight, but the call to action cannot be ignored.

Without a goal or a destination in mind, you step out onto the streets of Nucite City once again. Though the city isn’t as busy due to recent events, there are still thousands of people out and about tonight. The sounds of small talk and petty arguments nearly overpower your own thoughts as you walk down the streets. In a strange way, you almost feel as if you’re back home again. Despite the small bit of advice Nathan gave you, you can’t help but wonder just how far you can keep this up. Until now, never gave much thought to your future as a Trainer but the idea of being seven badges away from entering the League Tournament has put things into perspective. By coming this far, you’re now able to see just how far away you truly are from the end, if there even is one to begin with.

As familiar thoughts of self-doubt continue to race through your mind, you come to realize that you have no idea where you are. Though it feels as if you’ve only been walking for a few minutes, you find yourself wandering around in an unfamiliar section of an unfamiliar city. After fooling around with it for a while, it seems that even the Poké Watch is unable to tell you precisely where you are, much less how to get back to the Pokémon Center.

You give up on your attempts to narrow down your location, and decide to turn back instead. You make your way down several run-down streets, keeping your head on a swivel and a hand on your belt at all times. As you walk, the occasional Rattata scampers past you, and you earn a few stares by a several of the locals loitering on the street corners, prompting you to quicken your pace. You manage to lose your way several times in the winding streets but you eventually find yourself back in the more upscale side of the city, where you are no longer haunted by the dozens of eyes staring you down. Just when you’re finally ready to relax however, the street lights begin to flicker along with the interior lighting of every store and restaurant on the street. Though many show some concern about this development and begin discussing the matter in hushed whispers, you along with several others simply continue on unfazed. As the entire city is sequentially swallowed by darkness, you finally spot a familiar landmark and make your way back towards the Pokémon Center.

This marks the end of thread #5. Thankfully things went smoothly this time around and as a result, I’ll be able to respond to any feedback or suggestions regarding the quest so far. In addition, I am pleased to say that I can set a concrete date for this quest’s return. As before, I’ll archive this thread on sup/tg/, and I should have Thread #6 up and running by this upcoming Sunday at the latest.

In the meantime, I have a question to ask everyone regarding a few potential game mechanics. I’m kind of on the fence on whether I should implement things like Mega Evolutions and Z Moves along with Dyna and Gygantamaxing. Personally, I neither for or against their inclusion but I wanted to get your opinions on the matter before I made the call. The results of this informal poll won’t determine wether they get in or not, but a well written argument is likely to influence my decision.

Thanks again to everyone for their support.

>Add one (Mega Evolution)

While I won't mind no mechanics on the quest if I were to choose one I pick Megas.
>>
>>4341440
>Add one (Mega Evolution)
I don't really like z-moves and dynamaxing is only possible because of Eternatus, so you would have to come up with a reason for why power spots are in Isoin.
>>
>>4341440
I agree with mega evolution, iffy/OK on Z moves, don't care for maxing.
>>
>>4341440
I like the idea o megaevolution. But idk for the others

Since we're in subject of Megas, Asher is the only mon in our party which can become one, would you people rather he becomes a M-Gardevoir or a M-Gallade?
>>
>>4341509
I'll abstain on this until we have a more concrete decision on our full party.
>>
>>4341509
M-Gallade
>>
>>4341509
I'll be sincere and say that I don't know the difference aside the looks of it, so I'll abstain too haha
>>
>>4341990
Physical (Gallade) vs special (Gardevoir). Also I guess Fighting vs Fairy typing too.
>>
>>4342023
So I think that Gardevoir would be better, we have Armo and the sword guy as Physical and no Fairy pokemon
>>
>>4342027
We also have a potential Pyroar, Roserade, and Swanna for special.
>>
>>4342037
Swanna can be either special or physical, even mixed. I think it will depend of what we get from the guy in in the fighint gym, if we get a good fighint TM I guess Gallade can be viable, now if we don't M-Garde could be better.
>>
>>4341440
>Add one (Mega Evolution)
You already made a replacement for Z moves and maxing is kind of redundant.
>>
>>4341440
>>Create a new mechanic
How about a way to change or give a new type to our Pokémon? A nurse Joy said something about legends of that. I’d like to give Armo a secondary type.
>>4341509
I like M-Garde more but Asher has a physical nature so M-Gallade it is. Our team will have a very royal-ish feel to it.
