You are Milena Ravensun, a paladin and goblin slayer. You have been summoned at the center of a magical circle by the sorcerers of King Theostros, the local ruler. Because their kingdom is in grave danger, they have performed the ritual to summon a dying hero from another world: you. In this grim world, you are the only person who knows about Jesus Christ.

The difficulty level is high: you will die if you pick poor choices or fail the rolls.

This thread will use Mythic RPG for game mechanics, with the addition of the Faith and Justice Meters.

First Turn

The king implores you to save their kingdom from the slime lord Az'gexoth, who has unified all the monster tribes of the region. They have been destroying the human towns one after another. If you succeed in this mission, he promises you vast wealth as reward. The wealth, you don't care about. Since previously, you fell on the battlefield, it is a second chance at becoming a great hero, and to build the Church of Christ in a new, heathen world.

Before you can go after Az'gexoth, you will take a local quest so that you can build up your power and learn the ways of this land.

One of the king's soldiers escorts you to thee local Adventurer's Guild. You enter and look at their quest board. Meanwhile, the soldier fills the required paperwork to register you with the guild. In your previous life, you used to take missions directly for the Church of Christ, but you have to adapt. At least, everything's is written in the Common language that you know. The first woman accused of witchcraft is Thalia, who lives in a wooden cabin in the forest. She's said to sell demonic poisons. That sounds like this mission is within your skillset. You take it and immediately walk to her house, following the direction on the quest parchment. You energetically bang at the door with your fist.

Milena: This is the Inquision! Open the door!

The door partially opens and an old woman looks through it. She looks very ugly, and her face is covered with boils. You think that there's something in her traits that make her look dangerous.

Milena: Open the door and let me in!

The woman opens the door fully and lets you in. Her room reeks of witchcraft. She collects all sorts of strange plants, many you've never seen; animal pelts, and even entire rodents and snakes in jars filled with a strangely colored liquid. On her fire, she's cooking a green-colored substance in the cooking pot.

Milena: So, what is it that you're making, here?
Thalia: This is a healing remedy for boils, my lady.
Milena: And in this jar, over there. What is it?
Thalia: A balm for burns, my lady.

You punch the witch in the face. She falls on the floor and gives you a shocked look. It seems that she's not used to violence.

Milena: Where do you hide your money?

Witch: I-I... I'll give you everything that I have... It's hidden under this wooden plank.

You check the place she's mentioned. There, she holds a small box with 211 gold coins.

Milena: So much money... This disgusts me!

You take her by the hair and pull her toward the city. On the largest public place, you stop walking. The floor is covered with stones; this is perfect. By our standards, this is a medieval city, with architecture from England or France. People gather around you, wondering what you are doing with this old woman.

Milena: Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. (Exodus 22:18)

You take a torch out of your backpack and light it up. Then, you methodically burn the witch's hair. She begins screaming and cowering in fear. She tries to roll to extinguish the fire, but you burn her clothes.

Milena: Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved. (Acts 16:31)

You throw the disgusting golden coins on the floor all around you.

Milena: She has made this money from selling poison, but this money belongs to all of you.

People push each other like animals to jump on the money. Then, they watch the spectacle of the witch burning. Unfortunately, no one questions you about who is Lord Jesus Christ, but at least, now, they have heard his name. This is your first Christian action for the day, and you plan to do more.

You walk back to the Adventurer's Guild and report your deed. As you did not bring back proof that you completed your mission, you do not gain any reward. You look at the quest board for other witches to hunt.

Theodora lives in a small house, in a narrow street of the city. You bang at the wooden door with your fist.

Milena: This is the Inquision! Open the door!

A morbidly obese woman opens the door. Disgusting! A woman who indulges heavily in the sin of gluttony, and wears her sin proudly for everyone to see it. You don't trust her. This is the last person you'd ever want in your party. She smiles at you and welcomes you inside. Under her big smile, you can sense her nervousness.

Milena: Are you feeling nervous?
Theodora: I'm not, I'm not. Do you want a cup of tea?

As answer, you gracefully take your sword out of its sheath and point it under her chin.

Milena: I've heard you speak to spirits, is that true?
Theodora: Y-Yes... I do...
Milena: It is said "A woman that speaketh to spirits shall surely be put to death."
Theodora: I'm a good woman... I speak with good spirits and heal others.

Theodora sits on the sofa. You notice that her house is richly decorated, and her sofa is covered with soft, expensive cushions. With the tip of your sword, you give her a cut on the arm. The woman lets out a cry.

Milena: Show me how you heal.
Theodora: Spirits of Gog and Magog, I call upon you.

She looks around the room. You follow her gaze, but see nothing. You guess that she's seeing spirits that are otherwise invisible to other people.

Theodora: Heal me, by the power of my heart.

Her cut rapidly shrinks and a moment later, her skin is intact, as if it hadn't been cut. Gog and Magog, you know them from the Book of Revelation, but it refers to hostile nations that will join the forces of Satan at the end of time. Assuredly, they are not creatures, so you can't quite make sense out of this fact, except that they don't seem to be good spirits.

Milena: Who are Gog and Magog?
Theodora: They are benevolent spirits of healing.
Milena: How did you learn about them?
Theodora: I didn't learn about them, they've shown themselves to me.

It is now time to pass a judgment on this woman. If she's a witch, she's to die, but if she's not, you have no right to kill her, for you are not a murderer but the sword of God.

Now begins the inquisition of the accusation of witchcraft against Theodora.

Milena: Do Gog and Magog always manifest together?
Theodora: Yes, they do.
Milena: Do they have other powers?
Theodora: I don't know... Spirits, answer this question!

Theodora breathes in slowly and closes her eyes. She's listening to the voices that are speaking to her inside of her head. Then, she speaks, with high-pitched, distorted voice. The spirits are possessing her and speaking through her mouth. The séance begins.

Spirits: Yes!
Milena: Yes, what?
Spirits: Yes, we have other powers!
Milena: What powers?
Spirits: We can cause and cure any illness.
Milena: Do you know of the Holy Bible?
Spirits: Yes!
Milena: Are you related to Gog and Magog of the Book of Revelation?
Spirits: Yes!

It seems that Gog and Magog only gives short answers and are not very explicit when talking.

Milena: Do you serve the beast, Satan?
Spirits: Yes!

You are beginning to feel hot, as if you had a sudden onset of high fever, and a general feeling of unwellness. Theodora opens her eyes.

Theodora: Gog and Magog have infected you with a terrible illness, they said that only I can heal you. I'm exhausted, however. You will have to come back tomorrow.

Ecclesiastes 8:8 -- There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the day of death: and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it.

You have seen enough of it. Not only does she speak to spirits, but they have made you ill. The intensity of your fevers increases quickly, and your muscles feel sore. You have trouble to stand. You have to eliminate this witch, now.

She's much too heavy to be dragged to the public place, hence you will have to settle for a quick death. You pierce her neck with your sword and watch her die, gargling in her own blood. Once you are certain of her death, you drag her body to the street with both of your hands. Then, you set fire to it. A passerby doesn't understand what's happening; he accelerates his pace to avoid the scene.

You are now in a difficult situation. There's no church, and your faith is too weak to perform the miracle of healing. Ever since you travelled from this world, you have felt a bit disconnected from the Lord Jesus Christ. You are in an unknown world, far from your home, with no church. The only bible in existence is the one that you carry in your backpack.

A: Passion of Illness

--Faith Meter (20%) --
-- Justice Meter (0%) --

You find many heretical objects in her home. Theodora owned suspicious potions and balms, as did the previous witch; good luck charms, of a Satanic appearance; various paintings of witches, some very scary and with a life-like appearance; and a cage with rats suffering from an unknown disease. There's no doubt that this woman was a witch, and she was even hurting innocent animals.

You pile the objects up in the living room and then you bring them in the street. Then, you burn everything, at the same spot the witch was burned. You also found 20 coins of gold which you throw in the street, hoping that a poor person will find it. Your condition is too weak to spend time searching where the homeless communities are located.

You walk toward the forest outside of the city, while recite a verse from Isaiah. The verse gives you the strength to walk and stabilizes your fever. This in turn increases your faith.

Isaiah 41:10 -- Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee.

You find a glade next to a river with a small creek and waterfall. The water is limpid and you can see the rocks at the bottom. The place is quiet and perfect for prayer. You can feel that this is a blessed place, for as much as the witch's ugliness is testimony of her wickedness, Nature's beauty is testimony of the Lord's presence. You sit, your back resting against the trunk of a tree, and pray. When you will build your church, in the future, you think that this is the perfect kind of emplacement.

(The Faith Meter was increased by 10% as you chose the action of praying.)

You bathe in the waters of the creek, making yourself pure again. You remain vigilant that no one can see bathing, for such shame you could not tolerate. The freshness of the water cools you down, yet, you know that you still suffer from fever. You dry yourself up, and return to the shade of the tree.

Isaiah 43:20 -- The beast of the field shall honour me, the dragons and the owls: because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen.

You find much respite in the prophetic Book of Isaiah; the poetic voice in the wilderness befits both your situation and your environment, your exile in this new, forsaken world. The Lord's pure waters, you see them before your eyes, and for this blessed gift, you honor Him. Your faith increases, and you declare this glade a holy ground.

Tenth Turn

--Faith Meter (25%) --
-- Justice Meter (0%) --

You feel despair.

Milena: Lord Jesus Christ, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

You await Jesus' answer in your heart, but your heart feels empty, and your faith, feeble. It is through faith that one can perform the miracles and be healed, and because of this, your illness gains strength. It is the greatest of all battles that is fought inside of your heart. Every Christian, commoner or noble, must fight against the feeling of abandonment. The malaise increases, and you vomit. You think that you have caught some sort of plague, and you fear being contagious. If you were to go to the city, you could contaminate others, and this sin would be unforgivable. You can only withdraw to this remote place and pray for your faith to be restored.

Milena: Wherefore dost thou forget us for ever, and forsake us so long time?
Milena: Turn thou us unto thee, O Lord, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.

Your mind is filled with visions of your past battles against goblins, witches, visions of fire and violence which torment you. In your holy crusade, you have seen much that would traumatize a normal person. Always, it was your faith in the Lord that carried you, and the prodigious sense of Justice that drives you.

>Wait for the night and go to the temple of a deity similar to Jesus Christ

We must trust in God, that he will lead us into the arms of those who serve his will despite worshipping false idols. If we can find no such people, then we must have faith that the lord will provide for us.

John 4:24
God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

John 4:24 -- God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

The official religion of the city of Atria is the Axis Order, a religion that worships the goddess Aqua, goddess of water. She is in common with Jesus Christ enmity with witches and the undead -- it the Axis Order that put up quests against witches. You wait for the night, so that the streets will be empty and you will not contaminate others. You rested the entire afternoon to conserve your strength. The chances that the temple would still be open at night were slim, but you find that it remains open at all time.

Priestess: Are you here to confess your sins, my child?
Milena: I'm unwell. I've been cursed by a witch, and feel sick...
Priestess: Oh my! That sounds awful!

Oh my? Even if worshipping a false idol, this language is surprising for a priestess.

Priestess: Come, follow me.

She invites you to sit on a bench. The Cathedral of Aqua is, in terms of architecture, nearly indistinguishable from a Christian church. The major difference is that the image of Jesus Christ is replaced with that of a blue-haired woman.

Priestess: Goddess Aqua, please heal this poor child who found her way in your temple.
Milena:: You are Christ, my Holy Father, my Tender God, my Great King...
Priestess:: That your holy waters flow into her flesh and banish the dark energies of sorcery.
Milena:: ...My Good Shepherd, my Only Master, my Best Helper, my Most Beautiful and my Beloved...
Priestess: Aqua! I implore your gentle compassion! Aqua!
Milena:: ...my Living Bread, my Priest Forever, my Leader to my Country, my True Light, my Holy Sweetness...

Rays of blue energy leave the fingers of the priestess and heal you. Immediately, your fever and malaise disappear. It seems that she has succeeded in healing you. You cannot explain how she performed this miracle.

You used to sleep in a monastery, but in this world, you have no home -- unless you sleep outside, in the Lord's Glade. For this night he problem of lodging is solved, because the priestess allows you to sleep on a bench. She leaves you alone, and you don't debate theology with her.

In the morning, you walk back to the Adventurer's Guild. You reported having burned the witch Theodora, and look at the board for new quests. As the witch quests come from the Axis Order, you wonder how much you are running in a circle, and how influent that order is on society. A knight in blue and yellow armor invites you to join his party, but you decline his invitation. You prefer to be a leader than a follower.

There are three witch requests on the board. Also, there's a request to clean a particularly nasty goblin nest that caught your attention on the previous day. For that one, you might need a party (or higher meters). Goblins have always been your primary enemies, and fighting them is your specialty.

The woman Zohar has been arrested by the royal militia and is held captive in the castle's dungeon. As you have the paper from the guild, a guard is leading you to her cell, which is a moist room, deep underground. The story of Zohar is that she has been travelling from town to town, all of which had their well poisoned at the same time she arrived. There's no evidence or witness against her, however, and she claims her innocence. Zohar is an ugly, older woman, with a narrow face, a hook nose and dark circles under her eyes.

Milena: If you are innocent, explain who has poisoned the well.
Zohar: I don't know, my lady. It's the sheriffs job to investigate this matter.
Milena: Are you a witch?
Zohar: I'm not. I'm a simple woman, but I am not a witch.
Milena: Do you serve Satan?
Zohar: I don't know this person.

You slap her face.

Milena: I'm not satisfied with those answers. Let's begin again.
Zohar: I... I'm innocent, I swear.
Milena: Explain who has poisoned the well.
Zohar: I don't know... it must be someone who hates me.
Milena: Who would hate you?
Zohar: I don't know...

You slap her face harder, again and again, until she cries.

Milena: Who would hate you?
Zohar: The commoners... They hate me... Because I'm not one of them.
Milena: Do you hate the commoners?
Zohar: I don't, my lady, I swear.
Milena: If they hate you, why don't you hate them?
Zohar: I don't know...

Therefore: 0 verse => - 5% Faith; 1 appropriate Bible verse => stabilized Faith; 2+ appropriate Bible verses => +5% Faith.

You request a piece of cloth and a bucket of water from the guard. Using your own rope, you tie the woman up. Then, you wrap the cloth around her face, and pour water intermittently over it. This give her the experience of drowning. You do this torture for half an hour, driving her mad from the extreme pain, driving her crazy from never having enough air to breathe. Finally, you remove the cloth.

Milena: I trust this was not an enjoyable experience. You're now going to speak, or suffer this for the rest of the day.
Zohar: Please, don't! I will speak! Yes! I serve Satan! He promised to make me famous if I obeyed his orders.
Milena: And what were his orders?
Zohar: To spread ruin and disruption in every town I set foot across. Satan appeared before me in flesh when I had been kicked out of a town.

She spits in your face.

Zohar: I have spoken, now! Cunt! Biiiiitch! You have no right to hurt me anymore. If you get me killed, Satan will get revenge for me.

She laughs hysterically, as you have seen often with creatures of evil when they are pushed to reveal their nature.

Zohar: But if you get me out of here, I will help you fulfill your dreams!

You have nothing else to say to the witch. You will now report the testimony that you've obtained. The idea of burning her right there crosses your mind, but that would not be proper to burn someone who has already been arrested by the authorities. You notice that she attempts to send visions of evil to your mind, but you recite prayers to banish them immediately.

Micah 5:12 -- And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers.

You walk back to the Adventurer's Guild. That place is more of a debauched tavern than a proper institution, and you feel contempt for the scumbags who spend their time partying here while the kingdom is falling to the enemy. You tap your palm on the counter of the reception, to get the attention of the quest handler.

Milena: I have completed the mission. The criminal Zohar has confessed to poisoning the well.
Quest Handler: Thank you, Miss. You have been finishing the quests at an impressive rate. Here is your reward of 1 gold coin for the mission.
Milena: I don't need this filthy mammon; take it away from my eyes and give me a cup of clean water.

You are already in possession of 5 copper coins (>>4389328), which is enough to cover the cost of several meals. You don't want more mammon as you must stay perfectly clear from the sin of greed. The slightest desire for mammon would corrupt your abilities as a paladin, which you have been growing lately through faith, prayer and speaking out against the evil of goblins.

You find a new quest on the board for witchcraft from Viscount Rochellet, about a woman named Alia, who he was friend with, but has lately been neglectful of their friendship to the point that he doesn't know if they are friends anymore. He suspect that she has been frequenting communities of witches and that she now prefers their company to his.

There's a camp of travellers outside of the city walls. Not only are there accusations of thievery from them, but their fortune-teller, Morjiana, has been accused of witchcraft. It's said that she predicts negative events to people, and then they happen; a form of curse. You walk to the camp, with your hand on your sword. Although those people are human, at the same time, you view them a bit like goblins. Perhaps, they are not entirely human and are the result of crossbreeding, as were the Anakim.

You enter a tent with the symbol of a star above the entrance. Inside is a blue-haired, veiled woman, who stands up and moves her hands around, doing a small dance for you.

Milena: "I seek Morjiana."
Morjiana: "This is I."
Milena: "I am Inquisitor Milena Ravensun, I am here to investigate accusations of witchcraft."
Morjiana: "Oh?" she laughs. "Then, I shall plead guilty."

That's the first time a witch admits to her nature as soon as you speak. Somehow, that makes you feel sceptical. You explain more, in case she didn't understand.

Milena: "You are accused of cursing people with your cards."
Morjiana: "But isn't it what people want? They come her to be cursed by a beautiful witch, and pay me for my services." She laughs.
Morjiana: "Now, do you want me to tell your fortune, or are you too scared? For you, I'll do it for free."

Acts 16:16-19
As we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners much gain by fortune-telling. She followed Paul and us, crying out, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation.” And this she kept doing for many days. Paul, having become greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And it came out that very hour.

You take off your gauntlet and slap Morjiana. She falls on the floor and seems horror-struck. You rip off the veil that's covering her mouth and order her to strip naked. She's shaken and complies. You tell her to open her mouth and you inspect that she doesn't have a fork tongue. Then, you tell her to get up and turn around. You inspect her for the devil's mark, but find none. In appearance, this woman looks perfectly youthful and healthy. There's even a sense of innocence in her gaze.

You grab her by the hair and pull her outside of the tent. There are several travellers outside, in the camp, who ask you what you are doing.

Milena: "This woman has admitted to being witch, and I'm bringing her to the public place to burn her."
Traveller (man): "Is that true, Morjiana? You're a witch?" They all laugh.
Milena: "This is no laughing matter."
Traveller (man): "Yeah, I don't thing so. Let her go, or you're the one who's going to burn.

You should have expected it. The other travellers won't let you take the witch. You evaluate their fighting abilities. Some of them openly wear daggers; others are covered in scars. Those people are violent, and you think there's too many of them. Your Sense of Justice has been much too low, in fact, and you would probably struggle to fight a goblin one-on-one.

You put your sword under Morjiana's throat and retreat to the tent. If you flinch, the travellers will attack. Adrenaline kicks in, and you recite Bible verses to tame your fear. You should have expected that her people wouldn't let you escape, but you were being carried away by your zeal. Now, you have to think hard about your strategy. You are now certain that those men are not men, but goblins, and you don't want them to run their sleazy hands on your pure body. The idea makes you shiver.

Morjiana: "You should surrender and make it easy for yourself..."
Milena: "Silence, witch! I have not given up, for my fate is in the Lord's hands."

You take your torch out and set fire to the witch's blue hair. She begins screaming and tries to to put out the fire with a tapestry. She only spreads the fire further, accomplishment the Lord's will. Subsequently, the entire tent burns, but you do not feel the fire, for you are reciting Isaiah 43:2. Shrouded by the Holy Spirit, you cannot be burned. Flames are supernaturally jumping in the direction of the miscreants outside, who run away, from fear of seeing justice in its true, raw form. You raise your hands to the sky, and black smoke twirls toward the sun.

Milena: This fire is the Lord, for our Lord is an all-consuming fire.

The stench of a witch burning is unbearable, for with them are burning the accumulation of a lifetime of sins. This is why you always know that you were right to burn them. Under her appearance of innocent, Morjiana was a witch, and smelled as the other ones when she burned. Now, the travellers let you pass through their camp. You are merciless, and you know that their entire camp will be destroyed. It is pure hatred that resides in their eyes, but they know your Lord is stronger than their bizarre, many-armed idols. You only wish you had burned the witch on the public place so that everyone could witness the power of the Lord. However, you feel immensely satisfied to know that he's been with you all along, and that your presence in this new world was his gift to you, to save you from a tragic end in your former life.

You return to the guild hall, and the quest handler doesn't even bother asking you if you brought proof of completion of your mission. There's been rumors about your actions, and the other adventurers are wary of you.

Lady Alia lives in a small manor, with a garden of roses in the front yard and a delightful fountain of white marble. You knock at the door and her maid opens you. You say that you're here for the witch Alia and she brings you to her. She's in her bedroom, lying in her bed and playing with a cat. She invites you to sit on a chair in front of her. Lady Alia is an elf, and this race has always made you feel uncomfortable. They are not mentioned in the Holy Scriptures, and therefore it's always been unclear if they are humans or evil spirits. Alia tilts her head on the right.

Alia: "You are very cute. Are you here because you want to be friend with me?"
Milena: "No. I am here to investigate accusations of witchcraft against you."
Alia: "That accusation must come from that idiot, Rochellet." She giggles. "I will entertain you. Investigate me, if you wish."
Milena: "Is it true that you have been frequenting a community of witches?"
Alia: "Absolutely not. It's true I've made new friends, but they are elves, not witches."
Milena: "Do you worship the beast, Satan?"
Alia: "I only worship myself. I'm the most kawaii thing in existence." She grabs the cat, bring it to her face and rub him against her nose. "Ne, what do you say about that, Mr. Sachi?" She makes a dorky voice. "I agree with you, Alia." She takes her normal voice back. "Then, the matter is settled."
Milena: "Is that creature your familiar?"
Alia: "It's Mr. Sachi, he's just a cat."

You don't know what to make of this situation. Although she seems guilt-free on the surface level, your intuition tells you that this woman is highly manipulative. You feel as if she was toying with you, making fun of you. And you never had any trust for elves.

You decide to give her a harsh interrogation. By asking repeated, fast questions, you can make people slip up.

Milena: "Have you ever kissed a girl before?"
Alia: "Are you here to question me, or to flirt with me? No, I've never kissed a girl before, but I'm open to the idea." She winks.

Wait... What kind of question did you ask? Why would you ask that...? Ever since you dealt with the witch Zohar, you feel as if you were possessed by an evil spirit which is pushing your mind into sinful directions. The question of kissing doesn't give any indication into her nature as a witch, and only serves to satisfy your lustful curiosity. Yet, you have always made chastity your primary value, so you cannot accept that. Alia has that smug smile. She must feel like she has gained power over you, now.

Milena: "Why would Rochellet say these lies about you?"
Alia: "Oh, but isn't the reason obvious? Rochellet is a simp, and he gave me many gifts, including this mansion. In exchange, I gave him some of my time. But I find him absolutely repulsive, so I decided to ghost him. This has driven him crazy and now he's hateful and calls me a witch."
Milena: "Does it happen often that men buy you gifts like that?"
Alia: "Of course. As I said, I'm very kawaii."

(cont.)
>>
>>4406012
You've noticed that men usually fear you, so you don't believe her too much. There's no way men would buy a woman gifts for no reason.

Milena: "Do you know the origins of the elven race?"
Alia: "In the primeval times, the gods created the elves together. Some were pleased with this creation, but others were not. They thoughts the elves were too much like them, because they are immortal. So they created the humans, who were more like animals, and had shorter lifespans."
Milena: "This is a completely fabricated myth. God created man to be immortal, and made him to be an image of his own eternity. Nevertheless through envy of the devil came death into the world." (Wisdom of Solomon 2:23-24)

Now, you notice that you're on the defensive. You wanted to question Alia, but you end up debating theology. This is no good.

Milena: "Do you accept to partake in the holy communion?"
Alia: "Sure."
Milena: "Then, you have a chance to live."

You grab her wrists and begin stripping her of her clothes. She tries to resist, but you are much stronger than her.

Alia: "No! Nooo! Someone! Help me!"

Now, she's lying completely naked in her bed, and trying to kick you with her heels. You ignore her attacks and inspect her entire body, looking for the mark of the devil. There's none, however.

Bring her to church dungeon for further interrogation and torture.

2 Peter 2:4 -- For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment.

The priestess grants you access to the cathedral's tortur chamber. The room has been built under the church and has walls of black volcano stones. The decoration is macabre, with skeletons hanging from chains, dimly lit with a few braziers. One can almost hear the tormented whispers of the dead. Even you, who is a virtuous paladin, have palpitations when entering a torture chamber. Even if innocent, you never know when you'll be on the other side of the table.

The suspect, Alia, was brought here naked, for everyone to see, pulled by the hair. This is the first step of torture, to intimidate the suspect and make them reflect on what's going to happen. You have tied her to chains of iron, next to a dead body. Alia tries to pull her wrists free, in vain. Distress is visible in her face, as she must be understanding what her fate is.

Milena: I am not satisfied with your answers. Moreover, you lied about the myth of origin of the elves. For this reason, I think that you are a fallen angel, a creature born of evil, with no chance of redemption. This is why I'm going to torture you to obtain a confession. I advise you to confess as quickly as you can, because you will not leave this room until you do.

Alia: Nooo!!! I haven't done anything! This Rochellet! He has framed me.
Milena: This is unfortunate you have such a poor understanding of the situation.

You decide to torture the elf first, and ask the questions next. That way, she will feel so terrorized that she will confess everything, so as to not suffer further torture. Of course, you don't like to torture other human beings, as it is an attack against the dignity of human life, and other than blasphemy, there's probably no greater crime. However, this is an elf, and elves have no human rights, as they are not human to begin with. Satisfied with this logic, you set up the strappado device, which the cathedral is equipped with.

You tie Alia's arms behind her, and then turn a wheel to pull her up. When she reaches the full height of the ceiling, you release the wheel and she falls.

Alia: "Ahhhhhhhhh!"

The delightful supplice has began. From the fall, Alia's shoulders were dislocated. Although you don't think she's innocent, if for some reason she was proven innocent, she will suffer permanent damage to her joints. Also, the nerves, ligaments and tendons of her arms probably have suffered damage. But this is only the beginning. You turn the wheel and pull her back up to the ceiling.

Alia: "Please! I will confess anything you want! Please!"

Despite her words, it was already decided that you torture first. The subjects who go through the strappado torture usually don't survive for more than one hour, so you're going to torture her for that long. Priestess Lilly, hearing the tormented screams, comes downstairs to watch the performance. After an hour has passed, now is the time for the interrogation.

John 8:32 -- And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Milena: Are you frequenting a community of witches?
Alia: Please, no more of this... I'd rather die... Yes, I frequent a community of witches.
Milena: Why?
Alia: I don't know...
Milena: Answer! Or suffer more.
Alia: Because the humans fear the elves, and they're the only ones who can offer vengeance.
Milena: Do you mean, offer vengeance through witchcraft?
Alia: Yes...

Alia gives the location of the elven witches in the forest. Because her arms are now useless, she can't sign a confession. Hence, the priestess will serve as witness. You're done with your work here, and return to the Adventurer's Guild to report the success of your mission, and the confession you've obtained.

Q: Will Priestess Lilly provide assistance?
Odds: 50/50
Roll: 85
A: No

You seek audience with King Theostros to report on your progress as a summoned hero. You enter the throne room, where the king sits on a throne of gold. He seems to be happy to see you.

]King Theostros: "Welcome back, Hero."
Milena: "I salute you, Milord. I report to you my discoveries after investigating evil in your capital. Az'gexoth has spread his evil tentacles on every layer of society, and I have discovered many practitioners of witchcraft."
]King Theostros: "Witchcraft? This is most worrying."
Milena: "Indeed. This is why I request that your guards help me to mount a stake in the public place, so that I can burn the witches and give a warning to all practitioners of evil."
]King Theostros: "Very well. You can use all of the royal resources that you need in your mission."
Milena: "Thank you, Milord."

You lead a few guards to mount a stake in the public place with a few wooden logs. A curious crowd gathers around you. You bring the elven witch with a rope tied around her neck. With her dislocated shoulders, she looks very pitiful.

Milena: "Your attention, everyone. I'm the summoned hero, sanctioned in my actions by the King. This is an elf, a creature of evil who has confessed to being a witch.

The crowd boos her.

Milena: "She will now be burned as an example to what will happen to all evil creatures who do not repent. Burn her!"
The crowd: "Burn her! Burn her! Burn her!"
A woman:" Die, elven bitch!"
Milena: "And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them." (Ephesians 5:11)

You take a flint and steel and light up a fire under the witch.

Alia: "I'm innocent! Please help me! This woman is crazy! She has abused me for no reason! Rochellet set me up!"
Milena: "Those are lies! This woman has confessed to her witchcraft."
Alia: I confessed because she tortured me! She broke my arms!"
Milena: "Burn her!"
The crowd: "Burn her! Burn her! Burn her!"

Everyone is excited and rejoiced from seeing the public execution. Such performance is known to appease the population and satisfy their thirst for violence. When this thirst is not satisfied, crowd are known to cause public disturbance. Death by fire is excruciating, and the elf screams for several minutes.

Milena: Praise the glory of the Lord, Jesus Christ!"
A woman: Who is Jesus Christ?"
Milena: Jesus Christ is your lord and savior. Learn His glorious name, and repent for your sins!

The community of elven witches described by Alia under torture is located in the forest. They have made their coven inside of a grotto, and spend most of their time in a small clearing with a circle of mushrooms. You only have approximate directions and have to walk for several hours until you find them. You hear them before you can see them. They are talking and giggling in a non-human language. The elven language is musical, with many sounds that are pleasant to the ear.

Now, you see them. You hide behind a bush to observe the enemy. If they have magical powers, they could be dangerous. They are not typical elves; their skin is a dusky brown, and their hair is white as snow. Those are called dark elves, and are very rare. If one might have doubt about the evil of fair-skinned elves, there's no doubt about the dark elves. For being dark skinned, like the unfathomable depths of the abyss, is a curse. Yet, they are not without beauty. The elves, fair or dark, have softer, more refined traits than humans.

You see them drinking honey-colored wine and eating fruits and meats. Elves are not known to eat meat, so this surprise you. Does this hint to a cannibalistic nature? Or perhaps, the elves of this world are not quite identical to the elves from your home world. So far, very few things are different from where you come from. The major difference is in matters of faith, as the natives of this world are, alas, not familiar with Jesus Christ.

Q: Can you cast the miracle of hellfire?
Faith: Avg
DC: Avg
Roll: 36
A: Yes

--Faith Meter (55%) --
-- Justice Meter (50%) --

You have performed the miracle of fire many times. You like fire, because it represents purification and immeasurable pain. Before anything, fire represents the scariest aspect of God. The strongest and most potent form of fire is the inextinguishable fire of Hell.

Matthew 25:41 -- Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.

This miracle, you reserve it only to the lowest, most immoral creatures, of which you think dark elves are part of. Once you kill with this fire, there's no more redemption, nor any chance to accept the Christ as savior. They will afterward wake up in the dreadful prison of black iron, in the outer darkness, and weep for their fate.

Matthew 8:12 -- The children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

You stretch your arms in front of you, put one palm on top of another and recite the words of power.

Milena: Discedite a me maledicti in ignem aeternum.

A wave of fire spreads out from your palms and toward the dark elves. When the fire reaches them, they burn and scream. You walk solemnly in their direction and raise your sword to the sky.

Milena: Die, evil spirits!

You cleanly cut off each of the elves' head, which roll on the grass, on fire, with a grimace of horror. Your mission in the forest is complete.

The dark elves' hideout is a grotto next to the clearing which you have burned. You enter and take a look inside. A disagreeable smell of humidity and incense is floating in the air; this incense is very different from the one used at church, and smells unfamiliar and exotic. It seems that the entrance of the grotto is a ritual room, with evil symbols and sigils drawn on the floor and walls. You've never seen any similar symbol, but assume they are part of elven rituals. On the right is a side room that serves as stable, with two black horses and straw on the floor.

You search for hidden places in the rock surface of the walls, suspecting that the witches must have hidden their most fiendish treasures away from any traveller's eyes. You patiently knock the surface and push every objects, until you find a small hole hidden by rubble. Inside is a jewelled chest with intricate designs of golden leaves. Instinctively, you feel that it is cursed, as is most mammon. You throw it in the middle of the room with the tip of the sword, and it explodes. Your instinct was right. You've seen too many hideouts of that sort not to be fooled. Behind the chest was a stash of witch items. There's a crystal ball, used by witches to see remotely and to see the future; a strange cloak of silver lining, of suspect magic; and five strawberry colored potions, a work of certain black magic.

You contemplate taking the items for yourself. Magical items can be of undeniable usefulness in the crusade against creatures of magic. However, you're a paladin who relies on faith for power, and using such items could taint you. You're faced the dilemma of whether the end justifies the mean.

As expected of the elves, the two horses are high-quality breeds: they are coursers. Coursers are reputed to be fast and strong; an excellent choice for a knight such as yourself. You hang your items on one of the horse, which will serve as mule, and hop on the other one. Sitting high above the ground on your saddle, you feel ennobled. You silently thank the Lord for this new gift.

The village of Magefell is an hour's ride to the south. It has been built around a mage tower that has been abandoned for a hundred years. The entrance to the tower has long been then been sealed, hence it represents no danger. The mage of the tower had a pumpkin field, and after his disappearance, it was taken over by other people, who build a small village around it. Now, the story of the mage has long been forgotten, and only comes up in stories to scare children. The village is known to be highly devoted to the Faith of Aqua. Also, the village's inn, the "Mage's Harp", is reputed for its meat pies and other delicacies.

Here are the facts: 1) The well has been dry for several weeks; 2) There are no known witches in the village, nor has any strange traveller been spotted. This is not a simple case, and for this reason, the Axis Order has put up a quest at the guild.

The church of Magefell is a small, decrepit building of stones. The painting on the front door is cracked and one of the stained glass window is broken. In a Christian parish, this would be an indicater of a larger problem, but here as this is the church of a different faith, you're not sure if you can make a comparison. The priest is an older man with grey hair, round glasses, and dressed in rags. He speaks at a fast rate and gives the impression of being a goofy person.

Priest: "Welcome, my child. How may I help you?" He smiles.
Milena: "I am sent by the Adventurer's Guild to investigate the case of witchcraft."
Priest: "Oh, I see." He looks sterner.
Milena: "The quest description said that you have no suspect."
Priest: "Indeed. I don't think there's any case of witchcraft in our community. We are suffering from a drought, and it's the archbishop who declared that it's caused by witchcraft. I don't agree with him."

Again, you make a comparison with the Christian Church. The Axis Church, which worships the goddess Aqua, doesn't seem to have a strong sense of hierarchy. This is because their religion is made-up, so probably, each priest makes up his own rules regarding who Aqua is.

Milena: "Don't you have reclusive or strange people in the village?"
Priest: "Of course, we do. Everyone has their own personality, but this should not lead to accusations of witchcraft."
Milena: "Who is the strangest person in town?"
Priest: "Waldomar, the inn owner. It's not that he's strange, but he's the only one who never comes to church."

The priest's faith in Aqua seems weak, and you think that you can convert him to the faith of Jesus Christ. You share with him your personal faith story, how you became a paladin, and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ who sacrified himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age. This is a speech that you're repeated many times in your life, when meeting pagans from different cultures.

Priest: "I feel moved by the story of Jesus Christ, but Goddess Aqua is revered in the entire nation."
Priest: "All I'm asking is that you pray, and ask Jesus Christ to show you the answers."

You request that he pours water into a cup, and you turn it to wine. The priest looks at you skeptically, but he takes a sip. You can tell by his expression that he now seems impressed.

Priest: "This is indeed wine! How did you do this?"
Priest: "This is a miracle from Jesus Christ; a divine sign of his glory."
Priest: "We, the Axis Priests, can purify wine into water, but we've never been able to do the opposite."

You decide to interrogate the priest more. The fact that he doesn't have any suspect makes him suspect: the refusal to acknowledge the existence of witch could be an indicator of an aberrant tolerance of witchcraft. Perhaps he is a warlock himself.

Milena: "What's the position of the Axis Order regarding witchcraft?"
Priest: "There's no clear consensus about the subject in our catechism."

A blatant lie. You've arrested and burned several witches on quests given by the Axis Order. You can also tell from his body language that he's getting nervous: his face is sweaty and his jaw is clenched.

Sirach 2:2 - Set thy heart aright, and constantly endure, and make not haste in time of trouble.

Milena: "You're lying. What could that possibly mean?"
Priest: "I'm not lying." He coughs.
Milena: "Are you sick?"
Priest: "Hm? Oh! No, I just have a cold, nothing serious."

More lies. This might be a ruse to make you leave from the fear of contagion...

Milena: "Is there something wrong?"
Priest: "No, I'm fine." He coughs again.

...Or could it be that he got cursed and is really sick?
