After that, you agreed to come over to her house to help her with her brother, you got a decent bit of information on the war too. Aurora tried to convince Howie to stop but unfortunately you ended up having to put him into a Judge-induced coma. It was sad to see, you know it must’ve been hard on her.

So, you were understandably pretty surprised when she, despite all that, asked you if she could join your team. And, after making she fully understood what she was getting herself into, you accepted! Although, the biggest surprise came when she randomly kissed you after the fact...

You know that that good feeling wouldn’t last for long though as you would soon have to see the Dewitt family break down over what happened to Howie... You don’t regret what you did but it still sucked to see the family you grew fond of so torn up over what you did.

Wow, that got depressing so fast... Maybe you should focus on something else instead? Like cuddling the little lady in your arms! You’re still amazed that you got to do this with her, you’ve never done this a different girl than Nina before. It feels completely different with another girl but equally as great.

You take a minute to think about it all and you can’t help but find it funny; She’s small but surprisingly fit, she acts all smug and confident but is actually very inexperienced, when you first met her she was chasing after you but you ended up wanting her. For all intents and purposes, this girl is the polar opposite of Nina. But you know if there’s one thing they have in common, it’s that they care about you as much as you care about them.

You can’t hold back anymore, so you start to wake your sleeping beauty with some kisses.

“Woah, take it easy there, stud.” Yu Yan mumbles out, still half asleep.

“Morning Yu.” You feel a little bad for waking her up but that doesn’t stop you from continuing your assault of kisses.

“Mornin’. Still excited, huh?” She gives you her classic smug look that you always love to see. As smug as a half-asleep person can be anyway.

“Yeah, last night was amazing.”

“Hehe, you got really into it. I never disappointed, do I?” Yu Yan is wiggling her eyebrows with her eyes closed.

“Not at all, I give the service 5 stars.” You return her gesture with some eyebrow wiggling of your own, even if she can’t see it.

Despite that though, your smug girl lets out a little chuckle. After that you both stay silent and enjoy the moment together. You honestly never want to get up but alas, life must move on.

Next you find a card, a SoL card to be exact. You got this when Aurora tried to hide the fact that she plays. You found her reaction kinda cute though.

This time you find a coin? Did you randomly pick this up or something? Wait, now you remember! This is the lucky coin you used to perform magic tricks for the Dewitts! Good times.

On a related note, you find a piece of paper with a phone number and ‘add me <3’ written on it. You got this from the oldest Dewitt daughter, Sina, she must’ve been very grateful, what a nice family. You can’t believe that Scarlet actually thought Holly was in love with you, there’s no way a hug that tight could’ve been anything but maternal. You pity the redhead; she just can’t wrap her head around this flame stuff.

Lastly, you find the little fish hat that Naiad gave you! Such a sweet little thing, second best entity for sure. Your time on Dream Hill was an unfamiliar but unforgettable experience. That thought is instantly interrupted when you spot the uniform that you stole for your cult infiltration.

What a wild ride that was... From getting to know and gaining the trust of Vivienne and Carol, to slapping a girl on the butt at the command of another, to freeing the slaves, to getting a date with a cute girl, you did it all! But you’d be remiss to not mention the most important thing of all; the fact that you beat Cult leader Bernardo Ammirati and removed his entity Chernobog!

It was stressful but you’re happy with the results. You split up with Vivienne and Carol soon after on good terms, you even got tickets to Carol’s next concert! After that, you finally reunited with your team and decided to have a party to celebrate one of these days, probably today even. Then you decided to go home and the events following that bear no repeating, they are ingrained into your mind forever.

You’ve got to give it yourself though, you really did accomplish a lot on that day, now that's what you call doing your best!

…And Yu Yan is back to sleep. It doesn’t seem like she’s experiencing any nightmares, so that’s good!

(NEW) Dice Mechanic:

We always roll 1d100s!
Since most people weren’t happy with the system of averaging top four rolls, we’re using best of 2/3/4 depending on the attribute a prompt requires. If Johnny is a genius and it’s a Knowledge based roll, he gets more rolls (Max. 7)! If he sucks, he gets less dice (Min. 2)!

When asked for rolls, I will specify how many you’re going to get. Rolling begins after it’s asked.

Rolling 100 is a critical and ignores all other rolls! In the same vein, rolling 1 means a critical failure (only for Very Hard rolls and above).

The difficulty of the roll is tied with the effectiveness of the action. In other words, the harder the option the better the result!

Don’t forget that at the end of the day, this is a story-driven quest! What the prompts are describing is more important than the difficulty of the rolls, for results in a fight.

Again, rolls are only counted when they are posted within ten minutes of being asked, so watch out!

“I wanted to talk.”

“You’re really excited this morning, huh? I just want to make something clear, we’re not dating or anything like that. Just 2 very good friends having a good time.” Yu Yan shows you her tongue with defiance. “I know this just happened. But it was a little fun, and that’s it.”

“Woah, you only thought of this as a little fun?” You raise an eyebrow with full-on cheekiness.

“Okay, it was really fun… for both of us. I wouldn’t mind doing it again.” Yu Yan wiggles her eyebrows. She’s fully awake now. “But you know how I feel about all of this, if you really want to secure this cutie, you need to put your pants on, if you know what I mean.”

“But I thought you loved it when I had them down.” You joke. Yu Yan tries not to laugh in response.

“Y-You know what I meant! I want a real confession, and if you try to confess right here and right now I’m going to rip your eyes out. I have standards.” Yu Yan casually says something brutal.

“That’s a little violent.” You say good-bye to that possibility.

“Yeah, maybe I’m passing too much time with Nariko and Amelia, they sure like to talk about hurting people. You would be surprised how many times Amelia talks about gouging people’s eyes out.” Yu Yan shrugs apologetically.

“Good thing I wear glasses.” It’s not that easy with you.

“T-This isn’t what you want to talk about, right?” Yu Yan realizes she came off as very defensive for no reason. “I’m talking too much…”

“Don’t be so nervous, we’re just with each other.” You smile at her.

“It’s not that, I’m still half-asleep so my mind is just going wild. I know you understand that, stud.” Yu Yan is right, she isn’t really nervous about this now that you noticed. You’re not as sharp as usual in the early morning either. “But yeah, it’s something I needed to clarify, I didn’t say anything yesterday for obvious reasons.”

“Well, I was still being the boldest motherfucker you’ve ever witnessed…” You start your recollection of all the events that transpired yesterday, it would’ve been a good moment to do the long recap here, but you already did that so fuck it!

Yu Yan’s expressions is a combination between amazed, confused and pleased; like a cooking show chef when they finally get real fucking food.

“Maybe you are just the boldest motherfucker I’ve ever met.” Yu Yan deadpans.

“This is the part where you ask if I'm telling the truth.” You say.

“Huh? Why would you lie?” Yu Yan doesn’t get it.

“N-Nevermind.” You scratch the back of your head.

“Can I ask you something real quick?” Yu Yan looks a little puzzled.

“Yeah.”

“Why didn’t you ask for anyone from the Motley Crew for help?” Yu Yan’s face tells you that she ain’t blaming you for not asking. “I know you’ve been doing your own thing for a little while now, but the question still stands.”

“I… just wanted the help of people committed to eliminating the cult.” You articulate.

“I get that.” Yu Yan doesn’t look fully convinced though. “Maybe you could ask me to tag along on the next big mission. I know I would be great for morale.”

“You want to save the world too?”

“I want to help you more than anything.” Yu Yan has no aspiration of being a real life superhero here. Not that you are, far from it if you’re honest with yourself. “It’s your call, I won’t be offended if you don’t want me there or anything, and I’m not even sure what I could do. But you can count on me anytime you need, and you know I always make myself useful.” Yu Yan smirks.

“Thank you, Yu. I will if it’s necessary. I don’t even know what the next step I’m going to make is going to be, I just want to relax for a lil’ bit.” You knew Yu Yan would do this, but it’s reassuring to you to hear it from her.

“I’m sure most members of the Motley Crew feel the same way, but you didn’t leave them just to ask them for help later. But unlike them, I’m pretty cool and you know it. I wouldn’t weigh things down, if you know what I mean.” Yu Yan starts laughing. “But seriously, I don’t know how you can stay here all chill talking to me; If I were you my face would be stuck to the TV to watch the disaster unfolding! C’mon, let’s take a peek!” Yu Yan drags you by the arm.

“Huh? Right now?” You didn’t see this coming!

“Yeah, c’mon! It’s going to be fun…!” Yu Yan is really interested in the repercussions of your actions! Seeing her all enthusiastic made you curious as well.

“I guess I could prepare breakfast too…” You think you can accomplish both things simultaneously.

Yu Yan turned the TV on and amped the volume for you to listen from the kitchen, it’s early morning, so you didn’t think it was necessary. As you step inside the kitchen, you feel Nariko waking up, you have no evidence of this happening, but you’re sure of it. And lo and behold, Nariko woke up, guided by the aroma of your food. After saying hi to you, she joined Yu Yan on the couch to watch the news. Yu Yan informed Nariko about your feats from yesterday in a more condensed manner as the show was unfolding:

-So the Cult’s downfall is as all over the news as you were hoping. The whole nation is in shock! The villainous acts of the cult were brought to light! Murder, robbery, bribery, human trafficking and tax evasion. You wonder why there is always tax evasion. More than 200 people were arrested from all these heinous acts! This is just the tip of the iceberg as far as news is concerned.

-The Leader of the “Cult of Chernobog”, Bernardo Ammirati, was taken into police custody. The reporters were able to get some words out of him: “Of course, I did it!” Bernardo Ammirati said between his laughter. “Kudos to the people who brought me down! And for those who are still in the game, don’t think you’re untouchable. There is someone out there coming for you.” When asked to clarify, Ammirati refused to talk any further.

-The Director of Public Prosecutions said “There is more than enough evidence to prosecute everyone involved and it would be a catastrophic failure of the judicial system if we don’t get these people in jail.”

-Like Richard predicted, The N.U. is taking this news in stride and claiming all the credit for this catch. But Interim Police Captain from Pokyo Lokyo West District, Judith Leitgeb said “We can hardly take any credit for these arrests. The Public servants’ work in this city is quite remarkable. We will provide the Prosecution office all the help they need.” Her voice sounds strangely familiar to you, weird. And Richard’s name wasn’t mentioned, which was pretty eyebrow raising for you.

-Members of the Morning TV show “Good Morning, Lokyo!” said that they are in shock by the news of the now ex-member of the panel Bernardo Ammirati’s involvement and told the news they never saw it coming. A cameraman called them idiots. He was fired.

-President Lazarus Don Gordon Jr. sent an executive order to turn Bernardo Ammirati’s case into a Public Trial on National TV. A presidential request that hasn’t been seen since his father’s regime. Nobody is sure as to why. The trial will be shown tonight. The trials usually don’t last more than a couple of days… Lawyers are too overworked in this country.

-Some interviews with random ass people to know their opinions about what happened… how boring!

-As a little side note, Elicarto Lloydington’s great speech soured the public opinion on him considerably. The survey informed that the people thought it was “too confrontational” and “unnecessary”, reminding people of the darkest times when Gordon Sr. was in charge. In fact, people didn’t see much of a difference to what “The Hosts of Rebellion” were known for.

-Back to the cult, there are some individuals that are tied to this scandal that haven't been captured. You recognize among them the name “Valdemar Bruun.” Not even a clue about Foroutan though… Is that even his real name?

-Beatrice von Riegel denies any tie with the Cult as well. She says there is a conspiracy against her because she and Ammirati never met. The news shows pictures of them together in different locations. Von Riegel didn’t make any more comments and she’s currently being investigated as well.

The news keeps raging on…

Yu Yan looks all hype by listening to the news for the first time in her life, Nariko is still trying to grasp what’s going on in general. You’re close to completing your dish, but you feel your phone vibrating, you got messages from lots of people! All of them have to do with the cult…

Well, if people are sending you a bunch of messages at this hour on a Sunday, it must be for good reasons, right? You’re going to check what they have to say, even if breakfast is relatively close to being done:

-First, Scarlet tells you to check the news when you wake up, because the important happenings are unfolding! Silly Bubbles, you’re already awake! Still, she’s really excited about what you all accomplished together. It was all worth it in her words.

-Second, Nina assumes everything related to the cult is your doing, and asks you to call her when you wake up. She mentions being completely taken by surprise by the pleasant news, she didn’t think you were ready to accomplish this much in so little time! She’s just wowed!

-Third, Richard informs you that all the procedures with the data were a success and the police will take over from this point onwards, so that’s good. Yet, he reveals that there are some holes in the information, some key players missing and it’s out of his hands where the investigation might lead them to. Vivienne and Carol probably didn’t do a great job covering their bases, maybe you should tell them about it. Since he doesn’t address you directly, you think he sent this same message to each member who helped yesterday.

-Fourth, Emily sends you a cute little message saying hi and everything. Now you have her number! She tells you that she got the tickets for Carol’s concert by contacting her. Also, she mentions the big news, and how the police came over a few minutes ago to interrogate her about what happened, she feels hopeful about justice being had.

-Fifth, Holly sends you a short message thanking you for your super spy efforts. She believes you’re more than incredible! Huh, that’s one way to put it.

-Sixth, B-WORM sends you another short and sweet message: We did it.

-Seventh, Aurora tells you she read the newspaper ‘The Lokyo Observer’, the one Genesis works in, and thinks what you all did may have big repercussions! Did… she not watch the news? Like on TV? You’re confused. She reminds you about her reward again as well, something to look forward to, you guess.

-Eighth, Matilda requires your help for something Flame Related. Wait, there is more! She asks you if you’re involved in the cult happenings. So she noticed! Wait, you didn’t tell her a thing, how does she know…?

-Ninth, One little line from Henry: So that’s how it is. A little passive aggressive for your standards…

-Tenth, Roger Jackson sends you a text, giving you some insider information about the cult news, since he believes it’s flame related. It’s more or less about how the Police found out and how Richard handled it. Pretty close to what you already know.

-Eleventh, Dr. Calamity sends you his regards! He thinks you made a massive hit. The Police came to ask some questions at the Clinic since it was involved with this whole case. He didn’t say much because he didn’t know much! So you have nothing to worry about.

Well nobody expects you to be awake now, so you’re going to eat breakfast! You’ll have plenty of time to properly respond to them when the time comes. You take the plates out and bring the food with you; you have an extra portion for Ruby when she wakes up, you don’t want to wake her up because it’s her free day, she needs her rest!

You are all on the couch, sitting in the middle between Yu Yan and Nariko, who are still wearing your shirts as pajamas, with the trays on each one’s laps. Nariko is already elegantly stuffing her face with your meal, sounds like an oxymoron but it’s true! She moves so fast…

“Thank goodness you wanted to ask Johnny about what’s going on…” Yu Yan sarcastically points out to Nariko.

“Apologies, but I can’t allow this wonderful meal to go cold.” Nariko gives herself a breathing moment to explain.

“I couldn’t answer her anyway, I’m hungry as well.” You had a lot of exercises of different kinds yesterday… So you are a lil’ bit hungry now! You begin eating as well.

“I mean, it does smell nice…” Your smug picky eater starts digging into the food as well.

You spend a couple of minutes silently eating together in a homely atmosphere with the girls as you continue watching the news, no new developments so far. This situation makes you feel nostalgic about something that was still common weeks ago in this apartment, how weird.

“What a delightful way to start this day.” Nariko exclaims as she finishes.

“Not asking for seconds?” You raise an eyebrow.

“Not this time around, I’m the utmost curious about what happened.” Nariko has some self-restraint. That’s great! Even better because you didn’t prepare extra!

“After yesterday, I expected to act all flustered in front of Johnny, but look at you now! I’m proud!” Yu Yan is pleasantly surprised.

“There is no reason for me to be ashamed, dear Johnny has accepted me for who I am.” Nariko softly smiles.

“But I always have.” You aren’t sure where this came from.

“I-I’m used to confusing politeness with insincerity, it’s ingrained in my mind…” Nariko responds.

“She’s calling a two-faced liar, Johnny. How can you let that slide?” Yu Yan jokes.

“I am not! Don’t misconstrue my words, Yu Yan!” Nariko gets a little flustered by this attack. “I merely understood him better after the activities we performed together yesterday! I realize Dear Johnny is like any mortal, not too dissimilar to me. Almost like equals!” Nariko nods to herself.

“There is a backhanded compliment somewhere in what you’re saying...” Yu Yan is taking the piss.

“Good thing you felt that way with Johnny and not someone else. You don’t know who could’ve taken advantage of you.” Yu Yan smirks.

“Indeed.” You nod in agreement.

“Pardon me, could you explain?” Nariko is interested in this topic.

“How can you realize that you’re in danger if you ignore all the red flags?” You explain to the rich girl. You wonder if this has something to do with what Amelia did to her at one point.

“Also, what did you want to ask me?” You remember her saying something earlier in the conversation.

“Yes, I want you to clarify some fuzzy details from your amazing feat!” Nariko appears to be extremely curious about this.

“Yeah, but keep it down, I wanna hear what these guys have to say about this mess.” Yu Yan seems to greatly enjoy the chaos you provoked. You can tell it’s because she loves the idea that you were responsible for all of this happening.

Nariko’s questions just lead you to more or less retelling the whole adventure from beginning to end, Yu Yan skimmed over a lot of details, so you didn’t fill the gaps, and you went beyond all that! It feels strange to talk about people you know very well to other people you also know very well, at some point you feel like they should’ve met each other, but they haven’t! At least Nariko knows Scarlet from that weird date you had, so you don’t have to spend extra time to explain why she ended up being named Bubbles!

Nariko was putting all her attention on you and got all what you were saying pretty quickly, hell, she remembered everyone’s names after your first time saying them. You can tell why she’s an honor student!

As you were retelling your amazing tale of being invisible and walking around corridors, the news shows the new happenings in regards to the Cult:

-Bernardo Ammirati has decided to be his own lawyer for the infamous Public Trial for tonight against all common sense. The news says only 0.002% of people who use this strategy get anything close to a favorable verdict.

-President Don Gordon Jr. will attend the public trial in person! He’s not going to directly influence the proceedings, but the news made it obvious he’s pressuring for a guilty verdict to come out. N.U. Forces have declared they will follow Prancijanian law but they find the extra pressure unnecessary.

-Presidential candidate Elicarto Lloydington was interviewed in regards to Gordon attending the trial and he said: “President Gordon Jr. showing off once again the ugliest part of our so poorly called ‘democracy’; just like his father, he’s infringing upon the divisions of state powers by pressuring our judicial system with his presence. He wants to gain the goodwill of the people by appearing to be directly responsible for bringing this reprehensible criminal in jail despite our DPP saying there is more than enough evidence for him to be convicted. Populism in its purest form.”

When questioned on his appearance with NU armed forces on TV during his grand speech as another ugly reminder of tactics of old from Gordon Sr. (someone who loved appearing with his military forces during speeches) Lloydington made a snarky but unwitty remark before leaving in a hurry. Everyone thought it was lame.

-The total numbers of arrests have skyrocketed to another 450 people related to this cult debacle only in Pokyo Lokyo. There are other bases being investigated all around Prancijan, the number of possible suspects could rise up to over 1000 in the next few hours. New victims and new cases seem to appear by the minute as more evidence is coming to light!


“Holy shit.” Yu Yan is really in awe. “Damn Johnny, you changed the whole country!”

“Huh… I really didn’t expect the rabbit hole to be this deep.” You’re honest with yourself, this is way more than you originally expected.

“The country is falling apart!” Yu Yan exaggerates. “Also, breakfast is ready.”

“Wonderful.” Ruby smiles like Yu Yan said something beautiful, she begins walking towards the kitchen, almost absentmindedly, then she stops. “Pardon me, w-what did you just say?”

“Go for a plate and look at the TV. Big news, and we’ll be fine.” You answer instead.

“Very well, I’m certainly hungry.” Ruby casually walks away.

“I need to make some calls first though.” You say as you check out your phone once again.

“I’ll bring Ruby up to speed then.” Yu Yan has your back. “Ruby, you’re not going to believe what happened!” Yu Yan makes her way to the dinner table as Ruby brings her plate with the food you made.

“Dear Johnny, I’m going to clean up the dishes then.” Nariko starts hoarding the trays to bring them to the kitchen.

“Thanks.” You stand up and make your way to your room for some privacy, the girls tend to be a little too noisy for you to have a chat in peace.

After watching the news, you think there is no better time to celebrate than today! You’ll make the party happen tonight! You make a group chat with everyone in it, and let them know that tonight at 8:00 PM you want this party to happen! You’re planning on going to get them in the van again, so you can decide later where to go.

But not before asking Emily if she wanted to be included, she declined because she’s busy reconnecting with her family and won’t be available for a while. But told you not to worry about the date! She’s not going to miss it for anything in the world.

In the chat, the responses start flocking in! Scarlet, Xavi, Giorsal and Aurora accept with no issues, Richard begrudgingly accepts going as well. B-WORM will go as well, but clarifies that Genesis won’t be able to attend because she woke up ‘sick’, it appears those two ended up drinking a lot yesterday. You ask privately to Xavi if he can drive again, and he has no issues with it. The group chat’s conversation turns to the news that you’re directly responsible for…

With that already set up, it’s time to make another important call to the leader of the Motley Crew! Judging by her earlier message, she’s eager to talk and in a good mood, so you just need to inform her about what happened and whatnot. You dial Nina’s number…

“Johnny! I’m glad you called.” Nina sounds relieved.

“Hey there, I saw that you wanted us to talk.” You try to sound casual.

“Yes, there is so much we need to discuss!” Nina calmed down. “I assume everything in the news is thanks to you, right? Or is it a coincidence? Scarlet called me before your mission as she promised and, from what I heard from the clinic, I’m sure you’re involved, but I wanted to make sure how much you did.”

“Yeah, it wasn’t planned to be this big, but we took our chances and we came out on top.” You hearing everyone being so excited about it makes you realize how big this is.

“Do you mind going into details first?” Nina sounds very interested.

“All right, I’ll start from the beginning after our little date.” You’re wiggling your eyebrows, even if she can’t see it.

“I don’t know, I think they have more to lose than me if I somehow get found out.” You don’t think spying on them is necessary.

“A little precaution won’t hurt anybody, don’t you think?” Nina is just taking the necessary precautions. If you didn’t know better, you would think she’s acting paranoid, but Nina doesn’t know these people! “Well, on the topic of precaution! I obtained a new flame again! “A flame user?” You want to know a little more.

“It seems the host, the human counterpart, willingly gave control of her body to this entity. I wish I could tell you more, but that’s all I know.” Nina reveals.

“I’ll see what this is all about, but I know Ms. Spice would be much more comfortable if you helped her deal with this as well.” Your teacher says. “And that’s not the only issue I have to deal with, Henry doesn’t want to hear from us anymore, I scheduled a meeting with him today as well to have a chat, but he’s pissed about something.”

Well, you told Nina that you’re going to take this day off, so might as well! With the explanation over, you announce to the girls that you’re going to start making lunch. Yu Yan and Nariko (mainly Nariko) decide it’s a good time to go back to their apartment for a brief moment to change their clothes. Ruby is the one designated to take care of the ‘Bearrito’ while they are gone, your roommate takes the opportunity to comb your little sister’s hair and make her less of an embarrassing mess. Ruby wanted to help you, but you prefer it if she keeps pampering Amelia.

Since you don’t want to cause the uproar of your little sister, you’re going to prepare one of her favorite dishes: Tteokbokki! Amelia likes her spicy food, you’re not much of a fan though, probably her disgusting Tomah genes in play. It’s a great thing Ruby bought some groceries yesterday so you have the ingredients! Now, time to search online how to do it… Yeah, you’re going to make it less spicy than what the recipe says.

While cooking, you check on Amelia and Ruby to see how they are doing, and they are having a friendly chat together; they met a couple of times before today so you were curious if they were going to awkwardly stay quiet or not, and they didn’t, so that’s good in your book!

Nariko and Yu Yan are back just moments before your promising looking lunch is ready! You ask them to help you set the table for everyone. With every plate ready and everyone in place it’s time for everyone to dig in!

“I didn’t know you can make dad’s dish!” Amelia seems happy to dig in. Oh right, your stepfather made this crap.

“Could you please serve me a glass as well?” Ruby is not struggling to eat it but knows very well that could turn around.

“You don’t like spicy food?” You feel guilty for not asking if it was a good idea to cook it or not.

“I do! I did buy the ingredients, didn’t I?” Ruby is enjoying herself. So it’s only Nariko in peril here. “You don’t seem eager to continue eating as well.”

“Eh, if I eat too fast I’ll die.” You admit you’re only good dealing with one type of Spice, and she’s not here today.

“Nom, nom, nom, nom.” Amelia munches loudly. Where are her manners? You leave her on her own means for a couple of weeks and she’s already a disaster.

“Are you sure this is the case?” Ruby is right, Amelia has no way of knowing if everything she’s saying is true.

“That sounds more like a no.” Yu Yan raises an eyebrow in skepticism.

“A girl challenged me to a duel for the control of the team! She said I was the leader! She didn’t take no for an answer!” Amelia explains.

“It’s not a team, it’s a gang.” Nariko corrects.

“You fought a girl?” Ruby is really concerned now.

“No, but I won! I tried to run away and she ended up knocking herself on a bunch of lockers after she tripped.” Amelia’s story sounds familiar, you don’t know why.

“How are you planning to resign if you don’t know who to talk to?” Ruby doesn’t get the logic.

“I’ll leave a letter on the school’s billboard with my resignation! That’ll surely work. I have to concentrate on my studies” Amelia seems confident.

Ruby and Nariko are washing the dishes together; you, Yu Yan and the Bearrito are all watching TV on the couch now. Yu Yan has been treating Amelia like her lapdog, her head on her thighs as she caresses her head while absentmindedly watching the screen, you have Amelia’s torso on your legs.

Eventually the wealthy girls come back and join you on the couch, Nariko on your right, Yu Yan on your left, and Ruby on Yu Yan’s left, and Amelia lying on everyone's legs, starting from Yu to Nariko, leaving Ruby free in case you need something. You’re a little cramped, but you’re making it work.

You have an amusing conversation between everyone for a little while, talking about nothing really important, mostly just making fun of everyone; you can tell the girls are having a good time, Ruby doesn’t feel isolated, Amelia is smiling as her old bubbly self, Yu Yan being smug as always and now Nariko has been able to laugh at herself a little. What a wonderful time. Then you realize the Public Trial is close to starting, just in 20 minutes more!

“Let’s watch a movie!” But your sister has other plans.

“I would love to!” Nariko is on board.

“Eh, I wanna watch the trial, it’s going to be important.” Yu Yan wants to watch the once in a lifetime event.

“Meh, someone is going to make a summary online.” Amelia doesn’t want to. “I’m tired of being all stressed out!”

“Like I said before, I was one of the lawyers consulted by the Prosecution Office to prepare the groundwork for this case, I oversaw it, and the evidence is not only overwhelming, it’s also damning – in other words, there is absolutely nothing the defendant could do to escape from this.” The Lawyer responds.

“But how does Ammirati defending himself correlate with what you’re saying?”

“The individual Ammirati is in his right to defend himself even if at first glance he has no court knowledge or experience. But what can he do? What can any lawyer do? To my knowledge, there are over 1000 solid cases against him, if he fights every single one individually he still won’t get a verdict that is lower than a life sentence. And, you know, one of the most interesting aspects of a Public Trial is that it’s one date, you only have one day to have the case wrapped up. Ammirati knows he’s underqualified, has no time, and all the evidence against him. He’s basically throwing the towel.”

“But why would someone put themselves into that position? Wouldn’t any lawyer be better than having essentially no lawyer?”

“It does make the trial shorter if you don’t have anything to say.” The man chuckles. “The other option, in my opinion, is for showmanship, I don’t watch much TV myself, but he was a known celebrity even before he was outed as the leader of this cult, correct?”

“He wasn’t outed, he revealed himself, and the cult was known for having shady businesses going on before and after he showed up as their leader.”

“Point is, maybe he expects to give us one last show!”

The TV displays the courtroom in its entirety, then it flickers into different still shots of the place; very reminiscent of the senate TV program they show the highlights of every now and then during the news, nothing you have ever put any attention on before so you don’t know why it just clicked with you now.

You catch an extremely familiar face on the prosecution side… That’s Jeff Jefferson! Wait, that cannot be! Why is Double J on the prosecutor seat?!

“It came to everyone as a shock to hear that such a young man was appointed for this crucial case, any thoughts on prosecutor Jefferson?” The reporter comments. It seems they will provide commentary for this trial today.

“Regarding the man himself I have nothing to say, but I have concerning thoughts I’m not going to air right now.” The lawyer softly chuckles.

“Could you explain why? We learned he was brought back from self-imposed ‘retirement’ for this case, and knowing his record, we assume he’s pretty good even if he’s so young.” Reporter ignores her guest’s eagerness to keep quiet.

“It’s the reason why he’s placed here that concerns me, without going into specifics, I imagine the N.U. and the government settled on choosing him instead of someone strongly affiliated to either side.”

“But isn’t the DPP the one responsible for selecting the prosecutor in a case of this magnitude? Any type of intervention, like the one you’re suggesting, is against the law.” Reporter asks.

“With the political tension surrounding our country these days, I imagine the DPP tried to appease everyone as much as possible.” The lawyer responds.

“But both sides want this man in jail, don’t they? Why would they oppose each other?”

“Who knows?” The dean chuckles.

“I prefer if you directly answered the questions next time…” The reporter didn’t like that answer.

Shortly after, Ammirati makes his way to the defendant table with the help of a couple of police officers. Like always, he’s all smiles. The news people already said their piece about him, so they didn’t continue to hammer into the guy.

Immediately after, President Lazarus Don Gordon Jr. makes his way with his entourage to the front row of the crowd seats; the reporter asks if there is anything the president can do besides watching the trial, the college dean explains that he can take the floor and give some words for the judge to hear at any point after both the defense and the prosecution made their cases, but that’s all he can do. In trials of old, he would’ve had a special seat next to the judge, but Gordon refused for personal reasons.

Finally, the old judge makes his way to his chair, he looks like an old guy, almost interchangeable from every judge man you’ve ever seen in a movie.

The lawyer lets the audience know that the Judge is a highly-respected, patient, pragmatic, but mostly direct man. He says it’s only natural that a man of his reputation is in this role thanks to the hardening of the law by Gordon Jr.’s anti corruption policies; you have to be a remarkable individual to become a judge.

After a short briefing of the allegations against the defendant (which were plenty) by one of the court officers. The Judge takes over and asks both the defense and the prosecution if they are ready, which both say they are, and the trial properly begins.

The lackadaisical Double J is acting as he normally does, except he’s in a suit. You can’t actually believe he’s there! Like, it would be far more shocking if anyone here knew him, but oh well. Bernie, on the other hand, looks like the right type of relaxed for this situation. Maybe too confident, the same way he acted even when you ended up destroying his plans, he’s hard to read for all the wrong reasons. It’s the prosecution’s turn to make their statement…

“Yeah, uh…” Double J lazily flips through his notes. “Damn, that’s pretty bad. Anyway, yeah, you’re guilty, right?”

“No?” Bernie chuckles.

“Crap, this guy’s tough.” Double J looks at the judge.

“Mr. Jefferson, my colleagues spoke to me about your quirks, but their stories don’t hold a candle to what I just witnessed.” Judge doesn’t seem to be particularly happy about what Jeff is doing.

“That’s bad…?” Double J doesn’t really give a fuck.

“I implore you to take this seriously.” Judge rolls his eyes.

Then Jeff Jefferson reiterated what was said earlier but accused Ammirati of all of it with the proper allegations. First Degree Murders, Robbery, Bribery, Human Trafficking, Terrorism, Tax Evasion, disturbing the peace and so many unpaid traffic tickets. Ammirati’s risking 1,825,000 years in prison! Now it’s the defense’s turn to speak.

“I would like a recess.” Ammirati smiles.

“Uh, that’s not how this works, right?” Jeff turns to the judge.

“Denied.” Judge didn’t even acknowledge Jeff’s question. “Mr. Ammirati, if you don’t bring forward your case, I will have the pleasure of declaring you guilty on the spot.”

“Apologies, I was merely being facetious, your honor. I know there can’t be any delays with our magnificent president in the stands.” Ammirati seems to be playing straightforward now. “These allegations, while seem true on the surface, have some nuance to them. I wasn’t the mastermind behind these heinous acts. The truth is, I’m not the actual leader of the cult, I’m just a front.”

“This doesn’t absolve you of the charges.” Jefferson doesn’t seem shocked by this revelation.

“But I would gladly make the whole country know that you built this fiasco around a pathetic individual like myself instead of the real criminal.” Ammirati is taking the piss on all of this. Everyone knows he’s the leader.

“There is definitive evidence against you, Mr. Ammirati. You can play dumb all you want, but reality says otherwise.” The judge is acting more like the prosecutor than the actual prosecutor.

“Yeah, tell him.” Jefferson is backing him up.

“The evidence is tampered with, your honor and I can prove it.” Ammirati says while checking the files. He brings his own evidence forward. A USB Stick and some papers “This is the original documentation the police based their investigation on. If you don’t have the time to check it out, there are a few key parts and names missing that are in here. Please check them out.”

“Officer, take this new evidence to the police…” Judge seems mad at this.

“Hold on… I mean, uh, objection.” The great prosecutor Double J has something to say.

“What for? We don’t lose anything if we wait for our boys in grey to tell us if what I have is real or not, right?” Ammirati argues against this call.

“In the, uh, police report says the documents you are referring to are circumstantial evidence that lead us to the real evidence. For all we know, everything in these documents can be fake and it would not matter.” Double J sounds competent for once! “It’s a… special indication on the files from the guy conducting the investigation, your honor.”

“Why are these documents part of today’s case?” Judge rightfully wonders.

“They aren’t, your honor. That’s something, uh, that guy brought here.” Did Double J forget Ammirati’s name?

“You’re saying to the whole country that the Prancijanian Police would use fake evidence to prosecute its people?” Ammirati is not playing the same game as the others.

“That’s called Inconclusive evidence, I think. There was enough merit for an investigation…” Double J responds.

“Your observation is out of line, Mr. Ammirati. Please refrain from making such comments.” The Judge won’t let Ammirati talk shit so easily.

“I can see why, that’s on me.” Ammirait chuckles. “My point still stands, I’m just a front! I’m not the real leader of the Cult of Chernobog! A fool that someone else took advantage of.”

“Does it matter…?” Double J raises an eyebrow.

“I would like to be convicted of the crimes I did commit.” Ammirati shrugs. “That’s what justice is all about, right?”

Ammirati is about to pull out some tricks from under his sleeve. This could be bad!

“Uh, is it?” Double J turns to the Judge, who only shakes his head in disappointment. “Well, you, uhm, have made your claim, but you need to back it up…”

“You’re the one accusing me of these misdeeds.” Ammirati fires back.

“Uhm…” Double J goes through his notes. “We have thousands of victims, hundreds of accomplices and witnesses who point at you as the main figurehead and perpetrator. Err, the burden of proof is on you.”

“You haven’t found everything yet?” Ammirati chuckles.

“That ain’t my job.” Double J shrugs.

“Mr. Ammirati, the severity of these cases is no laughing matter. If you continue wasting our time, I’ll gladly put this case to an end.” The judge is tired of this shit.

“A little short-fused, aren’t we? I can see why nobody gets a fair treatment around here.” Bernie pretends to be surprised. “Well then, do you gentlemen know what a hierarchical system is?”

“Please proceed instead of asking rhetorical questions.” Judge is having none of it.

“Our fancy group of friendly individuals kept a rather robust hierarchical system; we were divided into different ranks, with me posing as the maximum figure, the Final Emir, and the other powerful members were known as Chancellors, then there is an important drop of value into the next rank. I believe all the people you captured were at the end of the totem pole, correct?” Ammirait shrugs. “Lesser members didn’t know how the upper echelons operated, we kept everything under strict security measures, and our dynamic is totally lost on all of you. This is how the mastermind behind our group could mask his real influence from the public. And since the evidence I presented is not going to be taken into account, I would like to call a witness to the stand.”

“Who’s this witness?” Judge asks.

“One of the Chancellors, your honor.” Ammirati smiles.

“I’ll allow it.” Judge is trying to conduct a fair trial. Double J didn’t have any objections, hopefully not because he wasn’t paying attention…

The screen now shows the witness stand and the person Ammirati brought… He seems familiar, but you can’t recall who it is.

“Please state your name, age and occupation.” Double J yawns.

“I’m the minister of the dark arts, master escapist, the chancellor of the unholy – the man who always leaves his mark everywhere he goes… I’m known as the Great Markgician!” The stupid looking man poses in the stand.

“What was your age again…?” Double J didn’t hear it.

“Who’s this buffoon, Mr. Ammirati?” Judge is not amused.

“The Chancellor I mentioned before, my witness. He knows the ins and outs of our church operations.” Bernie can’t help but to chuckle watching the Markgician do his thing.

“I’m not a buffoon, your honor. I’m the great Markgician! The ultimate trickster! Let me show you one of my greatest abilities! Fwoosh!” The Markgician makes some briefs appear from his sleeve. “…I have your underwear, your honor. Impressive, right?”

“The ladies love that trick.” Ammirati continues smiling.

“…Take him out of my courtroom now.” Judge has no time for this.

“Is this how the law operates, your honor?! Denying me of the few tools I have at my disposal to defend myself? I don’t believe this is a fair trial!” Ammirati is taking a piss again as the guards are taking the buffoon out.

“W-Wait, you can’t take me away! I’m the Great Markgician…! It’ll only be a m-matter of time before I escape anyway! This is futile!” The Markgician is taken out by force. “T-These are your briefs, your honor! And you know it! You can’t hide the truth forever!”

“I wonder if they are.” Ammirati asks the Judge.

“No comments.” Judge won’t answer for this tomfoolery.

“So you’re used to sealing the truth? That’s a bad trait for a judge.” Ammirati throws some shade.

“But were they really yours, your honor?” Prosecutor Jefferson also wants to find the truth.

“Enough.” The judge has lost his patience. “You lost your only chance to prove your innocence, Ammirati. I hope you’re happy.”

“Did I? That’s a shame.” Ammirati doesn’t care one bit. “You acted out of spite and I got screwed over. My witness could’ve turned this case around, but we won’t have the chance to witness it.”

“If you can’t prove anything, can we go now…?” Double J drinks some of his water.

“Who says it’s over?” Ammirati has something in his sleeve! And it isn’t someone’s briefs!

“The judge, probably.” Double J knows the judge is at his wits’ end.

“I have something else to say.” Ammirati cordially asks for his turn.

“You can, uh, send us a letter from jail or something.” Double J deadpans.

“If you make a mockery out of this court one more time, Mr. Ammirati, this will be it. So I implore you to take this seriously.” The Judge gives Ammirati one last chance to overcome the insurmountable odds.

“I’ll be brief then, your honor.” Ammirati is ready to play his ace. “Yes, the documentation I present might not be admissible to the court, but its content explains part of the story that seems to be lost in your archives. Previously, I asserted key events and personalities were missing from these files. The key personality being the real leader of the Cult of Chernobog, and I’ll reveal her name now.”

“Spare us the details.” Double J objects on time! That’s unusual… “We’re on a televised trial, if you don’t have concrete evidence of your conjectures, all you’re going to is damage someone’s reputation.” Wait, Double J is drinking some coffee! Is that the source of his newfound energy?

“Me? Throwing unfounded accusations? We all know that’s your job, Mr. Jefferson!” Ammirati cheekily smirks as he brings out of his briefcase. “I implore you all to look at this picture! In our cult, our leader has one special rarity to denote their rank, you can read it on our rules. One beautifully crafted gemstone, very few know the importance of this shard… Yes, to everyone who’s watching, it is what you think it is. The woman in this picture has it in her possession! The real leader of the Cult of Chernobog is none other than Vivienne Neuville.”

“The importance of this picture is not relevant to the case, your honor. And he presented without your consent, it shouldn’t be admissible.” Jeff argues against what’s happening.

“Huh? You don’t think that Vivienne Neuville having a shard of the Red Crystal is relevant to the case?! Did you even read the case file, friend?!” Ammirati is being especially loud for no reason.

“I want order in this court!” The judge brings the noise to a halt. “I find this evidence admissible.”

“Uh, objection, your honor.” Double J is tired again. “I reiterate my complaint from earlier.”

“Ask any of the Chancellors, the owner of the shard is the leader of the cult. That’s the only way to determine it.” Ammirati smiles. “Let everyone know you got the wrong criminal! You open up the circus for a second-rate show! You couldn’t find her and put all the blame on me! How pathetic.”

“You’re a grating man, Ammirati. This doesn’t absolve you of anything.” Judge responds begrudgingly.

“That’s only the beginning, your honor.” Ammirati is all smiles now.

“I would like to speak for a moment.” That’s the deep voice of President Don Gordon Jr., he stands up from his special seat in the crowd and makes his way to the witness stand, even before the Judge agrees to have him there, leaving him with no other option to agree.

“Did you write a panegyric for me?” Ammirati makes fun of the most powerful man in the country, this doesn’t humor the man. “Perhaps a eulogy instead...”

“A break, cool.” Double J sits down and starts drinking more of his water, ignoring his coffee.

“What kind of man are you Bernardo Ammirati?” Gordon Jr. asks ominously to the leader of the cult.

“That’s a broad question.” Ammirati has no fucks in his body.

“What do you stand for?” Gordon Jr. asks another question.

“So that’s where you were going…” Ammirati is slightly confused by the president’s questions. “Does it matter now? Can we continue the trial? I don't think this intervention is in any way productive.”

“Look at me when I’m talking to you. Now respond.” Gordon won’t let this continue until he gets what he wants.

“Quite aggressive, ain’t you?” Bernie taunts Gordon by pretending to be scared.

“Mr. President, with all due respect, we don’t have all day. So please go ahead with what you want to say.” The Judge intervenes.

“I believe everyone in this country wonders who Bernardo Ammirati is. If he refuses to tell us, I will. He was born in the streets, abandoned by those who brought him to the world, dumped like a stray dog straight into an orphanage. While the other parents died saving their children from the chaos at the time, this child found his new home next to a garbage can. A kid with no identity, no name, no honor. Did you pick Ammirati yourself?” Gordon begins his lecture.

“It’s better than Gordon.” Ammirati shrugs as he’s completely unaffected by Gordon’s words.

“You were treated like less than dirt. Bullied by your peers, all them in the same situation, but they knew the blood of cowards runs through your veins. Did you feel like you deserved it? All of you were Children of the Future, orphans from the war. Were you all that different? You all wanted a place where you could belong. Isn’t that what you thought?” Gordon pretends to pity Ammirati.

“Did I? You’re giving me too much credit, I was just a dumb kid.” Ammirati chuckles.

“A dumb kid that tried to punch too much above his weight. His aspirations too big for someone who was born to grovel. A man so pathetic he didn’t hesitate to use an innocent girl he manipulated to save himself. We know about what you did to those women, this trick of yours won’t work.” Gordon points at Bernie’s face.

“If you’re really so incompetent to believe Vivi is innocent, I’m voting Lloydington.” Bernie chuckles.

“I ask you again, what do you stand for?” Gordon raises his voice. They are staring at each other, everyone just silently witnessing their show.

“Hehehehe!” Ammirati just bursts out laughing. “What are you trying to accomplish here with your pseudo-psychological analysis, Gordy? You want me to get mad? To cry? To lash out? Why? “Woah, Gordy, did you forget that we’re in a court session?! I’m trying to gain my freedom! Maybe also showing the people who took me down that Big Gordy ain’t such a big deal, but that’s just a plus. You’re doing a good job of that yourself though.” Ammirati shrugs.

“How can you live with yourself after all you’ve done?” Gordon looks down on Bernie.

“With a positive attitude?”

“So in the end, everyone was right about you, Bernardo, and I hate you for it.”

“Calm down! Hate is such a strong word, Gordy.” Ammirati raises his hands. “And you said it yourself, I have the blood of cowards or something like that.”

“I don’t believe those words, Ammirati. All I see is a person who we, as a nation, failed, the same way we failed the victims. I can only pity you.” Gordon sighs.

“So you were trying to provoke me, cheeky Gordy! Haha!” Ammirati is having a blast. “Very well, I think I had enough fun for a lifetime. I admit it, I’m the leader of the Cult, I was trying to trick you all to entertain the audience! One last show before I say goodbye! I’m a dead man anyway.”

“Huh, I won? Nice.” Double J wakes up from his slumber.

“M-Mr. Ammirati, are you really confessing to all your crimes?” The Judge is in complete shock.

“Indeed I have, I’ve seen the error of my ways! Despite all your shortcomings, we all found justice together, isn’t that nice?” Ammirati smiles one last time.

“No. It was a huge waste of time.” Jeff sentences as the trial ends abruptly.

It seems like that’s more or less the end of the Public Trial… You should start preparing for the party soon! The reporter and the lawyer man are making some comments, but you don’t care about them at this point.
