Last time, after finding Matilda, together you went to the Home Economics Classroom, then she started to act really weird and you don’t want to talk about it. Now it’s time to figure out what your next step to get out of this place is.

“Let’s determine what our next move should be then.” Matilda is ready to take this adventure to a new chapter. “We can split up to get more objectives done if necessary. We just have to agree on a meeting place.”

“After all that trouble, you want to split up again?” You sure feel like it would be a waste of time if you did.

“I’m just throwing out ideas, Johnny.” Matilda is just trying to be cooperative.

“Well…” You need to decide what to do now.

What’s the plan?

>Try to find Oliver. Before you can do anything of note to leave whatever this reality is, you need to get everyone that got sucked in first.
>Find a new permanent base of operations. You have no idea when this classroom is going to be used for actual classes, so it’s better in the long run if you find a place where you can stay.
>Get Wilma and try to find a way out. Secure your escape route, or at least figure out the nature of whatever this ‘time travelling’ is. It’s less stressful if you get this out of the way. Besides, spending time with the girls is fun.
>Continue your day as a normal high school student in the past for now. You don’t want to force the issue; you’ll wait until classes are done or until a clearer path presents itself. Besides, spending time with the girls is fun.

Votes:

Votes are counted until 25 minutes have passed. This rule doesn't apply to the last reply of the day.
Votes that require a dice roll are counted until 15 minutes have passed, so we can speed up the process. Rolls are counted until 10 minutes have passed, so be prepared!

(NEW) Dice Mechanic:

We always roll 1d100s!
Since most people weren’t happy with the system of averaging top four rolls, we’re using best of 2/3/4 depending on the attribute a prompt requires. If Johnny is a genius and it’s a Knowledge based roll, he gets more rolls (Max. 7)! If he sucks, he gets less dice (Min. 2)!

When asked for rolls, I will specify how many you’re going to get. Rolling begins after it’s asked.

Rolling 100 is a critical and ignores all other rolls! In the same vein, rolling 1 means a critical failure (only for Very Hard rolls and above).

The difficulty of the roll is tied with the effectiveness of the action. In other words, the harder the option the better the result!

Don’t forget that at the end of the day, this is a story-driven quest! What the prompts are describing is more important than the difficulty of the rolls, for results in a fight.

Again, rolls are only counted when they are posted within ten minutes of being asked, so watch out!

“I think we should continue doing what we’re doing, and wait until classes are done to act.” You need to take it easy. It helps that taking it easy here is kind of fun. “No more acting though.”

“What about Oliver?” Matilda makes a sensible question.

“Mat, if there is anyone we can trust to survive on his own, it’s Oliver. He has gotten himself in so many different dangerous situations and somehow he always finds a way to survive.” You think Oliver is like a cockroach in the nicest way possible. “Just judging by what happened to us, he must be around, so sooner or later we’ll find him.”

“I see where you are coming from. I hope it is like you said.” Matilda agrees with your assumption. “We need to learn as much as possible about what’s going on, so partaking in the school’s activities could be a good idea. Also, if you act out of the ordinary too much, Ms. Wilma might lose trust in you.”

“You think so?” You did the oddest stuff ever when you met Wilma.

“I don’t want to find out.” Matilda shakes her head. “Regarding our housing situation, it seems neither of us has a place to stay. If you’d like, I could find a place we can use as a base of operations, a private place. This classroom won’t work for us in the long run.”

“Is that necessary? Do you think we are going to stay here for long?” You mean, the plan is escaping, right?

“Better safe than sorry, Johnny.” Matilda knows this is serious. “If you’re not fully convinced, I won’t do it. Now, I suppose we should return to this timeline’s detention…” Matilda sighs. It appears she has experience in present time detention, it is simultaneously surprising and not that she gets herself in trouble...

Anyway, yuck, detention…

What do you do?

>Try to find detention on our own.
>Go to the Teachers’ office and talk to Chio. You’re actually in detention now!
>Stay here until Mr. Hubbard’s class is done, then go back to classes like nothing happened.

“You don’t wanna go, right?” You don’t have to be a genius to realize that Matilda is not thrilled about going to detention. “You don’t have to go with me. If you prefer finding a base instead, just do it.” You give Matilda a thumbs up and a smile.

“Are you sure? Misery is best endured in company.” Matilda won’t leave you alone unless it’s necessary.

“I thought about it, having a base is a great idea, and I trust you to get it done.” You adjust your glasses as you compliment the expressionless girl.

“Very well.” Matilda is so pleased she smirks. “Take me out of school with your invisibility, so I can get to work. We will meet up after classes at the gate.” Matilda seems excited to turn invisible again.

“Are you sure you’ll have enough time?” You wonder. It’s very early in the day and all, so maybe you’re underestimating her a little.

“You said you trusted me to get this done, don’t start faltering now.” Matilda is way too confident.

“Just making sure I’m not putting too much on your plate.” You slightly raise your hands to show you have nothing to hide.

“It’s a sensible concern, but worry not. Now, let’s embrace each other into invisibility.” Matilda extends her hands towards you, and moves her fingers like she’s going to pinch you. You don’t like it.

You grab Matilda’s hand and turn invisible together. Opening the classroom from the inside posed no challenge, and leaving the facility was no issue either. Outside of the school’s perimeter, near some bushes, you part ways with Matilda and wave her goodbye. She looks confident, but you don’t know how much she really can get done. Anyway, you return to the main school building and leave your invisibility cloak off, or else you’re going to start getting tired. You casually make your way to the Teachers’ office since you have no idea where detention is, and you know one teacher that can help you find it. You peek inside through the tiny window on the door and only see Chio working on her desk.

What do you do?

>Sneak your way in, and start headpatting Chio again!
>Open the door and inform Chio you were actually sent to detention, and you don’t know where to go.

You take into account Matilda’s words, you’ll try not to do too much stuff out of the ordinary and play along with everything to learn as much as possible about this place and timeline. You casually make your way towards Chio, who at first looked surprised then disappointed at your presence here.

“Hey Chio. I actually got detention this time and I don’t know where to go.” You sound apologetic.

“I told you to refer to me as Ms. Chio Edamura.” Chio isn’t happy with your exaggerated insubordination. “Hubbard sent you here?” No honorifics for the other teacher though.

“Yeah.” You scratch the back of your head.

“Tsk. How idiotic of you. Do you even know how difficult it is for a student to get on Hubbard’s bad side? He’s one of the most understanding teachers we have here.” Chio stands up and walks right in front of you, now she starts fixing your tie. If what she’s saying is true, this place is doomed. “But once he’s fixated on you, he’s going to make your life impossible. And for what reason did you do that? All to try to impress a lady, hmph, how ridiculous of you.” The impressed lady says as she ends up tidying your appearance up. “I’ll give credit where credit is due, it was somewhat entertaining to watch.”

“If you say so.” You only did what you had to do… and acted a lil’ petty.

“Hmm? Are you going to pretend otherwise?” Chio wants you to admit it. “But delinquents like you are dreadful at hiding secrets. You didn’t come straight here once you got sent to work detention, right?”

“Yeah, I got lost again...” You play dumb.

“Then why do you smell like you were inside a kitchen? You went to the Home Economics Classroom, didn’t you?” Chio is acting quite sharp.

“Did you just sniff me…?” You know for sure that she’s an actual Edamura now!

“C-Could you please phrase it in a less unsophisticated manner?” Chio didn’t like how you said it at all.

“Can you take me to detention?” You just want to move on from this weirdo teacher.

“I thought you didn’t want to go there on your first day. But it seems you cannot escape your fate.” Is Chio mocking you? “Now, I can’t assure everyone that you’re lying. I have to take you at face value and assume you got lost here. So…”

Chio grabs your hand and starts dragging you out of the office.

“H-Huh?” You didn’t expect Chio to be this strong! Or sweaty. Is she nervous?

“I-I’m taking you to detention work this way so you don’t get lost or escape!” Chio feels brilliant!

What do you do?

“Uhm, Sure.” You have no authority over her, so it’s better if you don’t cause any more issues! You firmly hold her hand now, so you don’t accidentally lose your grip and get lost again!

“E-Excellent!” Chio starts walking at a faster pace, happy to have control all over you.

After leaving the office, you two start treading the same path as you did before you ended up convincing her to let you go back to classes a while ago. The frantic pace you were originally going started to slow down and down until it became a normal walk. A normal silent walk. Chio hasn’t said a word this whole time, and her hand has been continuously sweaty, twitching anxiously every now and then – and her movement has been stiff this whole time too.

You’ve realized something…

“Chio, are you nervous?” You start questioning her actions!

“No, I’m not. And I told you to call me ‘Ms. Chio Edamura’.” Ms. Chio Edamura is breathing erratically as she tries to maintain her composure. “S-Stop calling me by my first name…” Chio’s last sentence comes out like a whimper.

Chio is a 19-year-old teacher who gets easily embarrassed by holding hands, it’s adorably dorky! She’s probably a bigger dummy than her own daughter. Being fair to Chio, you held hands with a 28-year-old teacher inside a clinic and she had a bigger meltdown than Chio is having right now. Maybe it’s a teacher thing? After all you’ve gone through, you don’t get panicky like these women, so you can enjoy these little things to your heart’s content.

Sadly, inadvertently teasing Chio made her walk way faster and you’ve arrived outside of another building, almost as large as the Cafeteria one. It looks like a warehouse of sorts and it gives you mixed vibes, there is a woman sitting on a chair right next to the door. You look around and see some people, crops, and farming tools around.

“Please stop holding my hand.” Chio requests.

“Whoops, sorry.” You stop holding her as tightly. Despite that, your hands are still attached, Chio doesn’t want to move hers. You ended up being the one separating them… “So, what’s going on?”

“…” Chio ignores your question and approaches the woman.

They have a small talk until things tense up and the woman raises her tone. It appears she’s scolding Chio…

“You cannot bring every single child you’re having problems with to detention, for crying out loud, Edamura!” The woman ain’t happy.

“Like I said, he’s one of Mr. Hu—”

“Shut up. I can’t deal with everyone here! You’ll have to supervise him! In fact, supervise all of Sector D while you’re at it. Tools are over there already.” The woman shuts up Chio before she can finish.

“Understood…” Chio sighs and walks towards you. “Follow me.” She looked at your hand for one second, but decided against it and walked away. You trail behind her.

Once you arrive, without hesitation, Chio tells you that you’ll have to work the crops and hands you some random farming tools. You have no idea what you’re supposed to do.

What do you do?

>“Chio, why does everyone yell at you?” You’re concerned.
>“Aye, aye, ma’am.” You’ll have to improvise.

So if Matilda's finding us a place to stay, and we need to ask Grace and Mirjam what Chio likes to eat to inform us on making her apology dinner, and we need to make good on our promise to help Wilma...I think we're heading towards having a surprise party apology dinner for Chio with all of Wilma's old friend group in attendance and serving Chio's favorite food. That should be good for Chio and Wilma both.

We do still need to meet whoever Cookie is though.

“Chio, why does everyone yell at you?” You ask as you stare directly at her face, even though you’re holding a bunch of random tools in both hands, and it would be wiser if you took a look at them.

“These matters don’t concern you, stop eavesdropping.” Chio looks away, not willing to answer your concern. “What my peers and I talk about is a private matter.”

“Is it really eavesdropping when they are shouting while I’m standing right next to you?” It’s the opposite of private…

“Then you should be able to discern the reasons with your own capabilities.” Chio is acting really cold. You mean, she’s always been kind of cold, but this is not in the same freezing way as before.

“To me, it looks like you’re being excessively scolded for no good reason.” You don’t think she needs to be this secretive, there is nobody in this area. All of Sector D is for you two. That sounded like something Matilda would say...

“You haven’t paid any attention then.” Chio dismisses you.

“I have.” You would adjust your glasses if you didn’t have so much stuff in your hands.

“Then I assure you their complaints have been reasonable. I should’ve known better.” Chio is deluded. “Everyone who commits an indiscretion needs to be scolded and punished. In this regard, I’m no better than any of you even if I’m a teacher. We have a duty to perform.”

“I’m not so sure about that…” This is not your type of punishment. And the only reason you have a favorite kind of punishment is thanks to her daughter.

“You wouldn’t yell at an incompetent, foul person? How do you expect anyone to do their jobs instead of lazing around?” Chio shakes her head. “Start working, I’m going for a chair so I can supervise you. If you’re concerned about my well-being, just perform your job admirably.”

Chio wants to walk away…

What do you do?

>“Explain to me what mistakes you made, missy.” You think Chio is going crazy.

>“Chio, you didn’t deserve to get yelled at, and you’re not going to change my mind about it.” You saw it with your own two eyes.

“Explain to me what mistakes you made, missy.” You frown a bit to show your displeasure at the situation, and you put on the stupid overalls to work the ground.

“Enough with your disdainful attitude.” Chio feels like her authority is being overrun.

“Sorry, I just want an explanation.” You try to be a little bit more polite.

“Fine, I didn’t double check the list to notice your absence in a timely manner.” Chio responds to you without a hitch now, but less snobby.

“Was it your responsibility?” You wonder as you put down the tools to try to figure out what to do with them. You’re going to take some vegetables out as it seems to be the easier job to do.

“Yes. It’s from all the teachers, we need to ensure all our students arrive safely and attend to class.” Chio answers.

“Then why are you taking responsibility for every single other teacher? Did anyone tell you about this?” You wonder as you decide not to use the hoe for this…

“I’m the newest one. So I should know, the newest recruit needs to be the most mindful…” Chio sounds unsure of herself.

“Does that matter? Do you really think you need to be scolded for that?” You keep pushing the issue as you take a shovel out.

“I do…” Chio doesn’t know if it’s true or not. “I-If only I knew a little better. They are right, no one from my rank is this ignorant… The only reason I have the accolades I do is because they pitied me and made me an honor student. I thought they were jealous of my accomplishments, but the longer I work the longer that rings true, they just helped me so I didn’t lose my scholarship…”

Chio seems to have internalized that first bit, better move on to what just happened.

“And how is it your fault that you took me to detention? It was Hubbard’s idea.” You point that out.

“I’ve brought too many students to detention, I’m incapable of dealing with them in the classroom, even though I have the fewest shifts.” Chio explains. “I push my problems onto the rest… Of course one would assume that I’m doing it again.”

“I’m here because of Hubbard.” You reiterate.

“Like I said, one would assume that I—”

“It’s not your fault that I’m here.” You interrupt her before she can keep talking nonsense.

“Are you going to keep interrupting me?” Chio didn’t like that.

“If you keep acting like a dummy, I most likely will.” You drop the shovel and adjust your glasses. “Now explain to me why bringing me here is your fault when it was Hubbard’s decision.”

“I was going to bring you here before I changed my mind… and I made you act recklessly in front of Hubbard thanks to my pitiful attitude. In conclusion, I should be accountable for these actions.” Chio will blame herself no matter what.

“That makes no sense, I acted the way I did because Hubbard is an idiot.”

“Do not talk about other teachers in that manner.”

“Sorry, I guess.” You shrug. “Hold on a second. Does everyone that goes to detention need to go to the teachers’ office first?”

“Yes.” Chio is confused. “We need to write it down.”

“Wouldn’t that mean that since you have fewer hours as a teacher, you’re the one who’s most likely to bring students here?” You put to use your level 4 knowledge.

“Still, I’m unable to control the class while I’m in charge.” Chio wants to be guilty.

“Moving goalposts, I see.” You shake your head.

“It is a rather concerning problem, Mr. Noon.” Chio doesn’t appreciate your attitude.

“Is that even true? I don’t know if I can believe you. Tell me, which student here did you bring because he was disturbing your class.” You want your answers.

“Enough.” Chio doesn’t want to hear it. “Stop whitewashing my image, I’m careless...”

“I’m not doing that. All I know is that, Chio, you didn’t deserve to get yelled at, and you’re not going to change my mind about it.” You will remain firm with your convictions as you continue working the crops. You don’t know if the stuff you’re taking out is edible or not… “Nobody does their best when they’re discouraged. Why do you think I got angry with Hubbard earlier?”

“I…” Chio seems to get it. “Why am I explaining myself to a student…?” Or maybe not. Or at least, not fully convinced yet.

How do you respond?

“Still, it is unacceptable that we're having this conversation.” Chio is trying to go back to her spiral of self-doubt as she ignores you.

“Is that bad? I’m just a year younger, y’know?” Besides, talking things out helps destress.

“I suppose it isn’t…” A meek Chio is starting to sound like your OG hobo. “I need some time to think. I’m going for a chair; you keep on working.”

“Aye, aye, ma’am.” You and your shovel friend have a lot of work to do… Maybe you should just pull out the stuff here instead. Meh, you’re underprepared and over-equipped, you’ll do what you want.

Chio returns with a chair and a sketchbook, she sits near you and the crops, but at a safe distance so no dirt falls on her. You thought Chio would like to continue chatting, but she pretty much ignores you as you continue working, she seems busy working on something.

You can tell this time period is terrible because your ‘recess time inner clock’ 6th sense, that every student has, tells you that you should be having a break, but nothing is happening. You’re tired more out of boredom than anything else. Maybe you can weasel out from continuing…

“Mr. Noon, come here.” Chio hand-waves at you.

“Uhm? What is it?” You throw the tools suspiciously fast and walk right next to her.

“What do you think?” Chio shows you what’s in her sketchbook…

It’s you!

Judging by the look on her face, Chio seems to be expecting amazement.

How do you respond?

>“Hey, that’s me!” Act like Philonune everytime you draw something in Drawtionary.

I mean personally I feel like she's holding back on stylization she'd like to put in. I don't think someone drawing like this would be a superprodigy like her.

Maybe this is the sort of drawing she does to relax, but I'm basing at least some of this conjecture on the only other example of her work we have.

“Hey, that’s me!” You’re jubilant at seeing your ugly mug depicted on paper!

“Isn’t it great?” Philonune is really happy for you! Now you know how it feels.

“O-Of course, it is.” Chio is befuddled by your gleeful reaction.

“Wow!” You grab the sketchbook and keep looking at yourself. You would pat Chio’s head if you didn’t know she doesn’t like that stuff.

“B-Be careful with it.” Chio wanted to stop you from taking the sketchbook, but she shyly decided otherwise.

“No one has ever done this for me. Thank you.” You feel stupidly happy. Same as the handmade gifts you’ve received before.

“Yo-You’re welcome.” Chio doesn’t know how to react, but it’s not like she’s upset in any way.

Damn, if one day someone puts this Chio and Nariko in the same room, and tells you to shoot one of them, you can ask them to draw something to differentiate them! Then you can make an educated decision of who to get rid of. Honestly, you wouldn’t shoot either of them, and this situation sounds so convoluted and implausible that it’s not even worth thinking about. Also, Nariko is thicker so it wouldn’t be that difficult to tell which one is which, also taller, but that ain’t a fun scenario. Unless you can inspect them carefully... And this train of thought is getting too weird to continue!

Point is, this is really good!

“Can I keep it?” You wonder.

“Huh? N-No, it’s my sketchbook.” Chio wants it back.

“I mean, just the drawing.” You wonder if you can take it out of the bubble.

“You like it that much? How egotistical.” Chio makes fun of you.

“Of course I do, you made it!” You smile.

“…You should return to work.” A blushing Chio grabs her sketchbook back.

Sadly, Chio is right, you should do stupid farm work…

“Partner, she’s almost as good as you!” Philonune praises Chio’s work too.

“What are you talking about? She’s miles better than me.” Your drawings suck.

“The only way to find out is if she draws me.” Philonune wants another drawing as he poses. You chuckle at the thought.

“What are you laughing for?” Chio wonders.

“N-Nothing.” You respond as you put your gloves back on.

“Stop being so cheerful.” Chio is acting shy. Like she was expecting another kind of response and this whole bit caught her off guard. She pretends to start drawing again on another sheet, but she keeps peeking at you.

“Can’t help it.” You shrug. Chio shouldn’t be nice if she doesn’t want people to be happy.

You turn around to look at the work you have left to do, and notice a strange girl standing in the middle of the farm a couple of feet away from you, she’s wearing casual clothes. She looks almost as ecstatic as you were seconds ago. The thing is… there is an entity right by her side, a flying empty coat with a hat that immediately reminds you of a certain grounded Judge entity. The girl kneels down, pulls some of the dirt and starts squishing it – smiles all around.

Who is this person…?

Good news: this is before the War started, and she's not one of the judges from the modern day, so hopefully she doesn't have the absolutely crippling bullshit powers judges do
Bad news: Even those powers aside, all the entities we've seen aligned to the Green faction have been powerful in their own right.

I say let's go for the unexpected route

“This is wonderful, I can feel it…” The strange girl smiles at her entity, who doesn’t say anything in response.

“Chio, do you know that girl over there?” You point at the mysterious girl. Pointing is very rude, but something is so off here you don’t care!

“Hmm?” Chio looks at where you’re pointing at, her confused expression remains unchanged all the way through. “I do not. I hope it isn’t another student I overlooked.”

“For the last time, it wasn’t your fault…” You shake your head as you put down your weapon, err, farming tool. “Wait, where are you going?”

“She’s in my Sector, I need to verify who she is.” Chio wants to go! She can’t see the entity! This could be dangerous for her!

I suppose we're interpreting 'spy' differently here. I don't imagine we'll be approaching the girl, but rather keeping our distance and observing somehow. >>
>>4857762
we are in open farm field, in what universe could we "Spy" on her without suddenly turning invisible, in an open field, with Chio right there and more than willing to not let us go off to try and find a building to hide behind for a second

“Stay here, I’ll talk to her.” You try to look and sound serious so Chio can get a clue quickly.

“It’s just a girl.” Chio doesn’t get the clue quickly.

“Trust me on this one.” You start walking towards the mysterious girl.

“Alright…” Chio sits down to observe what’s going on, she’s not fully convinced, but if she’s like her daughter – she’s going to be a good girl and stay in place.

“Partner, be careful.” Philonune knows this could be dangerous.

You continue walking until you reach a decent distance from the mysterious girl to be heard.

“Hey there.” You try to sound polite and friendly.

“Hmm?” The girl turns around towards you. “Um!?

The mysterious girl gives you the most disgusted expression a human is capable of giving the moment her eyes lay on you. Similar to the kind of face your father used to give you anytime he talked to you, or when Amelia eats something she dislikes if Nariko’s stories are to be believed. She probably hasn’t puked out of politeness. Do you have something on your face? You don’t think so… Point is, this hits you right in the ego, you’re man enough to let it slide, but you won’t forget this…

“Be polite.” The entity tells the girl to regain her composure. He sounds abnormal, like a distorted voice but it’s like your brain cannot process or pinpoint what kind of voice it has, it sounds clear and natural, yet indescribable – and in no way distorted like when you listen to shadowy people at a Judge Meeting.

“…Hello.” The disgusted girl has a neutral face now and is struggling to keep it. “A flame user? How?” She hides behind her entity.

“Indeed, he is.” The entity doesn’t move.

“Should we eliminate him?” The girl is no good!

“Don’t say that out loud. Talk to me telepathically.” The entity responds.

“…” The girl remains silent.

“…I told you one day it would come in handy.” The entity sounds disappointed. Guess they don’t have that type of connection. “We’re safe. There is no need to conduct an attack.”

“Then you talk to him, he can hear you…” The girl wants nothing to do with you. “I think.”

“Understood.” The entity agrees to talk. You should’ve said something at any point during this.

“…” The girl is glaring at you.

“Can you hear me, human?” The entity wonders.

How do you respond?

>“Yes, I do. Who are you and what you’re doing here?” Get your answers.

“Yes, I do. Who are you and what are you doing here?” You need to get some answers.

“We’re gatekeepers. We police all otherworldly happenings. Our main task is to stop the beings from the other dimension from creeping into our world. We’re here investigating the nature of this anomaly, to determine if it’s dangerous or not, and if it could interfere with the game.” The Judge entity basically reveals that he’s in fact a judge…

Could this girl possibly be Esperanza? Or were there some judges around 20 years ago? By the way he’s talking, you think it’s the former. There is no good reason to call this place an ‘anomaly’ if you’re here, unless something important is happening…

“So, what’s this ‘anomaly’ you’re speaking of?” You need more answers.

“I cannot give you that answer since I cannot determine your identity, you may be part of the anomaly, and we can’t disturb it without investigating it.” The entity shakes his invisible head. Well, his hat at least.

“This place is tremendously sophisticated. No wonder you think that. But I don’t think it’s going to break this easily just answering some questions to these people.” The girl finally speaks up, she’s just playing with the ground, making a little hill by the side, trying not to look at you. “It’s so different from the other realms. We should learn how to replicate it.”

“If it’s the ability of an otherworldly being, I don’t believe we can. Our abilities are limited.” The entity responds to the girl, who frowns.

Well, they are at least willing to talk…

What do you do?

>“Are you two from this time period?” Ask an indirect question to get the information you need.
>“Are you Esperanza, the fifth judge?” Ask a direct question to get the information you want.
>“Wait, you think I’m an illusion?” You might be more real than them.
>“How can I leave this anomaly? I’m not from here, I’m from your world.” Ask for a way out! You need to get to safety!
>“You know, it’s creepy talking to someone without a face…” You need to get that out of your system.

“So, are you two from this time period?” You make a seemingly innocuous question with heavy implications to get the information you want.

“Time period…?” The girl draws her attention to you, but immediately gets disgusted and turns her head away. You kinda got your answer. You’re 95% sure that she’s Esperanza, one of the three Judges you haven’t met personally. “Is this anomaly a recreation of another time period?”

“…You’re more than a mere prop.” The Judge is starting to take you seriously.

“I want to see it. I want to see this whole world.” Esperanza (?) gets really excited out of nowhere and grabs her entity.

“We need to get as much information as we can from him.” Judge is not happy with his host’s childish request.

“I don’t care about him.” Esperanza (?) wants to leave you behind.

“He might be the one responsible for the anomaly.” Now the Judge has high expectations of you.

“I doubt it. His presence is no different than the others.” Esperanza (?) gives a cryptic answer. “Also, he gives me the creeps.”

“Perhaps because he’s the one responsible for the anomaly…” The Judge finds it obvious.

“No, he's, like, nauseatingly ugly.” Esperanza (?) coves her mouth in disgust.

“I’m here, y’know?” You remind her. No need for this level of hostility.

“Sadly.” Esperanza (?) really hates you for no reason. This reminds you of your times in middle school...

“Can we keep an eye on him?” Judge doesn’t believe he can argue more with her.

“A visit every now and then. I just want to explore! I want to feel the breeze at the highest mountain this realm can offer! C’mon! Let’s go!” Esperanza grabs her judge by the coat and they disappear in a flash!

Wait, no, you actually needed them to stay!

“Damn it…” You feel stressed out. Yet, you don’t think they would’ve helped you escape… Anyway, as long as you’re with Wilma, you’re going to find them.

You feel someone rapidly approaching!

“D-Did she just disappear…?” Chio looks scared.

Huh, you kinda forgot she was watching, you mean, you were far enough that she shouldn’t have listened to what you actually said, but…

What do you do?

>“Huh, yeah, she was a ghost. I helped her go to the other realm.” Now you’re a ghostbuster, great.
>“What? No. She left like 5 minutes ago, she just got lost and found herself here. Are you okay? You look dizzy.” Gaslight her.
>“Don’t look at me! I’m ugly!” Bye bye self-esteem, you hardly knew thee.

Seems like she might be paralyzed or otherwise stimulation-deprived even worse than Constance in the real world. At least that would explain her fascination with this place and comment about this world being so different than the other realms (presumably the Distant Frontier and Bridge Between Worlds).

Which, now that I think of it, means that we probably shouldn't let on that we're trying to close/end/resolve this place for Wilma's sake unless we're prepared to come into conflict with Esperanza.

“Don’t look at me! I’m ugly!” You say goodbye to your self-esteem, you hardly knew thee. Now the days of ‘Ugly Ando’ are back on the menu. You turn your hideous face away from Chio.

Eh?” Chio is taken aback by your unusual yet justified reaction. She feels like she missed something.

Almost like it was a fated encounter, a strong breeze brings a paper bag that lingers right in front of you. You stare at it with your grisly eyes, then grab it, and swiftly open two holes in it. You take your glasses off and put the paper bag on your head to save the world from your grotesque mug.

“Much better. What were you asking, Chio?” You casually wonder now that you’re safe under your environmentally friendly disguise as you put your glasses on somehow.

Chio looks unimpressed after her bewilderment is gone. “Give me that.” Chio aggressively snatches the bag off of your head! She doesn’t appreciate what you’re doing to help the world.

“W-Watch out!” You fail to catch your glasses as Chio was way too sloppy with her maneuver. Now they are on the ground! If you break them, you’re screwed! “C-Chio, my glasses…!” You turn to where Chio should be, but now you can’t confirm if it’s her without your sight being at its best.

“……” Chio doesn’t respond, and whatever you’re watching is probably a lamp, because it’s not moving. You don’t waste any time and kneel down to search for them.

“Got ‘em.” You find it with ease, they aren’t dirty or broken either, you put them back where they belong. “Here we go.” You blink a couple of times, then turn to Chio; she’s petrified, her face cherry red and she has a dumb expression. “Chio…?”

Huh…?” Chio snaps out of it. “S-Stop acting ridiculous and tell me what happened!” It seems you’re not going to get an apology.

“You barbarically threw my glasses away.” You adjust them so Chio can witness the damage she caused.

“Not that, the girl.” Chio rolls her eyes.

“Oh. Right. I’m ugly…” You look down in shame.

“Stop being idiotic, I think you look... acceptable.” Chio looks away, a little embarrassed. You’re so ugly that trying to raise your self-esteem caused her great shame. But if she’s willing to endure it, you have nothing to hide. “Just tell me about the girl instead of talking nonsense.”

“Okay…” Your self-esteem is not nonsense… You try to look serious now, like Bruna when she saved you from those bullies and Toaster. “Well… I can answer that in two different ways, depending on if you want to get involved in something dangerous or not. If you don't want to get involved then let this go, it was a ghost and I helped her go to the other side. If you're not content with that I can tell you the truth, but you probably won't believe me. Either way, know that you don't need to be scared, I'll keep you safe.”

“I-I told you to stop talking nonsense.” Chio doesn’t believe you, but has her doubts.

“I’m serious.” You aren’t playing games here. Though, you usually take games seriously.

“You are…?” Chio looks worried. “I—"

Chio’s answer gets interrupted by the machine gun-sounding bell ringing, it echoes through the whole school, it’s time for a recess!

“It’s time for lunch…” Chio comments under her breath. Well, it’s not a simple recess then. “Too much has happened, I need to collect my thoughts… I need to get going. I’ll answer you later.” Chio wants to head straight for her sketchbook and leave. Seems detention time is over.

What do you do?

“You promise?” You need to make sure Chio just doesn’t disappear.

“Yes…” Chio hurries to get her stuff, she doesn’t turn her head back to you as she escapes from your hideousness.

“Take care.” You feel like this is too abrupt. Chio doesn’t even acknowledge the last bit either. How saddening.

With Chio gone, you take the farm tools and the clothes away and leave it near the warehouse’s entrance. You couldn’t find the lady in charge that was here before, so you think this is the best place for them. Everyone but a couple of students are all but gone or at least looking like they are about to leave, so you don’t wanna stay here for too long or else you’re going to feel responsible for what happens to these tools.

You manage to find your way to the Main Building, retreading wasn’t as difficult as you thought, maybe you’re getting used to the layout. Some students are leaving towards the cafeteria, so it’s rather awkward walking against the current. On your way, you take a peek inside the classrooms and see each one half full, from midway to the front, with all the desks from the kids inside right next to each other forming a large table. All the fancy students are enjoying their homemade lunches with a nice tablecloth underneath.

Outside of the classroom, standing outside are both Mirjam and Grace, and right in front of them, at the wall, Wilma is waiting too. A considerable distance among them. Anyway, Wilma is the first one to realize you’re back and immediately jogs in front of you.

“Sorry, I got in trouble. I hope I didn't worry you.” You apologize for not being here.

“It’s fine.” Wilma shyly looks down, relieved you didn’t abandon her. Then resumes her position as the backpack you forgot in your dimension. San is here too, he waves at you, then he and Philonune start chatting.

“Phil!” Both Mirjam and Grace’s eyes shine at your sight as they say in unison. You wonder why, you’re ugly. They walk in front of you.

“Hey there.” You enjoy the warm welcome. Anything to heal your self-esteem…

“We were waiting for you! I told Mirjam you wouldn’t go directly to the cafeteria, so I told her to wait here.” Grace wants to show how nice she is.

“That’s not fairrr, I just said it was possible…” Mirjam looks ashamed.

“That doesn’t matter! Phil is a nice guy, he wouldn’t resent you for that!” Grace cheekily smiles.

“Then stop making me feel bad about it!” Mirjam doesn’t like it.

“It’s all jokes! I know Phil has a good sense of humor. Or did you forget what happened during class?” Grace wants to go there.
“Oh! Oh! I wanted to ask Phil about that! Wasn’t she the friend Phil was looking for? Why didn’t she have his number? She looks like a regular, she should have a phone, right?” Mirjam wonders. “I mean, if Phil had one, he probably wouldn’t have to look around for her…”

“Mirjam, you’re such a leech! She was flirting with him and it totally backfired!” Grace starts chuckling. You feel Wilma’s grasp on your back getting tighter. “She looked, like, so mad after that.”

“Not as mad as Mr. Hubbard. I’ve never seen him like that before.” Mirjam thinks Hubbard is a decent person. What?

“Yeah. I mean, this confirms that Phil is a delinquent, right? Right? Right?” Grace starts skipping right in front of you at every ‘right’ she says.

“Don’t be so pushy...” Mirjam wants Grace to stop. “Is your friend not around?” Finally, Mirjam breaks the Grace-Mirjam conversation cyclone and let’s you in.

“Huh, she went home for a bit.” You don’t know what kind of excuse to make.

“Phil is so chivalrous! He doesn’t want to hurt our feelings! But relax, you don’t have to lie! She probably didn’t want to hang out with us.” Grace knows this dance very well. Too bad she’s missing her cue and that’s not the reason at all.

“Oh. I thought all city folks were just as cool as you…” Mirjam looks disappointed.

“He’s not the first we met, but he’s the first we met that’s like that, or did you forgot about those other guys?” Grace is confused.

“I’m sorrrrry, it was wishful thinking on my part…” Mirjam looks down.

The girls look hungry… you wonder what you should do.

What do you do?

>“Should we go to the cafeteria?” You think you should eat that foul food. The Home Ec. Classroom might be occupied by the middle schoolers now.
>“Wanna skip some classes with me?” Since you’re a delinquent and all, why not? You just need to be back once school finishes to reunite with Matilda.
>“So, why was Wilma standing on her own?” You thought you reunited a group of friends here, damn it.
>“Hey, I met Chio. We’re friends now!” Tell them what happened! Except for the headpat part… for now.

First thing we should do when we see the slop they're serving is to commandeer the kitchen and make something actually edible.

“Hey, I met Chio. We’re friends now!” You’re excited to tell them about your encounter with the future mother of your OG Hobo!

“Really?!” Grace is excited for you.

“Tell us more.” Mirjam wants the whole story.

“…!” Wilma peeks from your side to hear your story too. Who would’ve known that a group of tomatoes were so interested in the story of a mother cow?

You tell them the story of your meeting, your little debacle with Mr. Hubbard and your second meeting with Chio! Minus the head patting part, there is no way you can make a cohesive story with that part in without beginning to sound too convoluted. Though, it would give a certain air of mystery about yourself and the people you know, but at this point you feel like it isn’t worth it… for now.

The girls’ reactions surprise you, they feel like you were talking about another person altogether at points, but aside from that, they were amused by your tale.

“It’s been years since Chio drew one of us!” Mirjam can’t believe Chio did that for you.

“She used to draw us all the time when we were little, even without our permission. And when she got mad at us, she made us look like orcs or somethin’. We used to beg her to stop, but now she doesn’t even bother to draw us anything unless it’s for our birthday!” Grace feels all bubbly just remembering.

“I miss that…” Wilma shows a tender smile.

“It’s her career now, we can’t expect her to do it anymore for free.” Mirjam is pretty understanding. “...Even though she’s pretty fast at it.” Or not.

“But she’s totally missing out, we’re at our cutest now! Right, Phil?” Grace gets closer to you.

“I don’t know, I think you girls will only get prettier with time. I hope I get to see it.” You adjust your glasses. And if they get uglier, you just need to take these off. Wait, you already know what Wilma will look like when she’s older, and you know for a fact she’s not going to get any worse.

“Hehehe, I don’t know what to say…” Grace is all smiles as she keeps swinging her arms around faster and faster.

“You should! You’re the one fishing for compliments…” Mirjam is happy too, their expressions don’t match their voices.

“W-What were we talking about? Oh yeah, Chio!” Grace changes topics before her head goes into overdrive.

“To be honest I think the reason she doesn’t draw us anymore is because she’s so busy with her art career and being a teacher. She just doesn’t have time for us.” Mirjam laments.

“I mean, she should, right? Doesn’t she have, like, a special light schedule so she can focus on her art while she’s teaching here? Someone super talented like her is a special commodity for the school.” Grace points out.

“You’re right! I forgot! That shows how little time we spend with her.” Mirjam starts chuckling.

“Well, she spends all her special time locked inside that office being all grumpy, only doing paperwork for the school instead of drawing us. Remember how mad she got at us the other day for bringing her some sweets while she was busy doing that?” Grace starts chuckling too.

“Yeah! She almost threw her brush at us. But we should be more understanding and figure out a better time to come by.” Mirjam nods and both girls’ giggles combine. For some reason, you don’t find it funny.

“You’re totally right, we should! All of us! Grumpy and all, I miss our Chio.” Grace nods.

“I miss her too…” Wilma is happy to be included. Which reminds you…

“So, why was Wilma standing on her own?” You thought you were helping reunite a group of friends here, gosh darn it!

“…” Wilma looks down.

“Oh! We forgot to call her back?” Grace didn’t notice.

“I mean, as soon as everyone left, Phil arrived. So we didn’t have a window to talk.” Mirjam explains.

“A window to talk? You could’ve walked to her.” You don’t get this explanation.

“Oh yeah, Phil probably doesn’t know that…” Mirjam gets on edge.

“W-We shouldn’t say anything, nope.” Grace doesn’t want to talk about it.

“……” Wilma starts trembling.

“What’s going on?” You might be stupid, but you’re not… err.. stupid. Something’s going on here.

“Forget we mentioned anything.” Mirjam plays dumb.

“Uhm, I don’t know, he’s going to find out sooner or later...” Grace feels like she should tell the truth.

“But Wilma…” Mirjam isn’t sure if this is a good idea.

“No…” Wilma grabs you tighter, she’s not peeking out anymore.

What do you do?

>“All right, all right. You don’t have to tell me…” You’ll let this go for now. They don’t seem prepared to talk about it.
>“What’s wrong with Wilma? Is she okay?” Examine the Wilma to make sure she’s fine.
>“Just be honest with me.” You want the honest truth… of whatever this is!

Oh, she's worried about her missing tooth.

She's gotta learn that her friends will accept her for who she is, but she has to come out of her shell before that can even happen.

“Just be honest with me.” You want to know the truth since you think it makes no sense for them to hide anything from you at this point. You turn to Wilma and grab her shoulders. “I won’t think any less of you no matter what you tell me, Wilma.”

“Phil…” Wilma gets emotional.

“If you want to wait then that’s fine, but it’s not good to get all tensed up trying to bury something forever. Okay?” You lower your head and say that as nicely and softly as you can.

“I trust you…” Wilma will believe in you no matter what.

“I’m sorry, Phil, we forgot we were talking with you.” Mirjam appears under your right arm and gets herself comfortable by your side.

“Whether you find out sooner or later won’t change a thing since you’re so cool.” Grace does the same thing as Mirjam but by your left arm.

“Eh?” You don’t know what these 2 are doing, but everyone here seems comfortable touching you for some reason. You won’t complain for now unless they want to tickle you, and if they do, it will be war.

“Can we tell him, Wilma?” Grace asks the fidgeting girl.

“Mhm…” Wilma accepts her fate. She trusts you. You’ll do your best to not disappoint.

“Remember when we told you about some of our friends moving to different orphanages? Well, Wilma is one of them.” Mirjam starts the tale.

“Yeah, you visited it, it was kind of wild, wasn’t it? It’s a special one, it’s all fancy and stuff. But the building isn’t the only thing that’s crazy, there is a requirement to be part of it.” Grace continues talking, are they in sync or something? “Should I say the next part, or do you wanna?” Or not… It seems like they want to contradict your thoughts immediately.

“What next part? I thought you were just going to continue…” Mirjam shakes her head.

“Huh, well, the thing is, that place is – wait, you already know the name.” Grace is terrible at this. “Okay, to be a permanent member of the Orphanage of the Blue you need to change your last name. Forever.”

“……” Wilma looks in pain.

“That’s why they want to make their own school, but don’t quote me on that.” Grace shrugs.

“Obviously, Wilma gets harassed sometimes, mostly by her classmates. They throw paper balls at her, call her names and scribble insults on her desk. It gets especially bad when a lot of people gather, like when everyone goes for lunch.” Mirjam looks down. But you went to the cafeteria together and nothing happened. “Thankfully, once you’re at the cafeteria, if someone tries to cause trouble, they get detention. And nobody wants to go to detention.” Are they reading your mind now?!

“So, yeah, we asked Wilma if we could step aside instead of being hassled too, just wait by the side until it dies down. It doesn’t happen often, but you have to be safe, y’know? She’s totally okay with that. Right?” Grace smiles at Wilma.

“Mhm.” Wilma nods. “I don’t want you to get hurt…”

“I’m a tiny bit lost here.” And really infuriated, but you’ll leave that for later. “Why exactly is she getting harassed?”

“…!” Wilma is moved and in shock.

“We just told ya.” Grace looks confused.

“Maybe I didn’t hear it correctly.” You scratch your cheek.

“Wilma changed her last name.” Grace points out again.

…So?” You might be dense and stupid. But that doesn’t compute at all.

“W-What do you mean by that? She renounced her family’s name!” Grace can’t believe you. She steps away from you in shock. So what? You would change your last name for your mother’s if you could. Though Johnny Ando has a nice ring to it. “Her family must be cursing her from the other side!”

“T-The ultimate betrayal a Prancijanian can make! Abandoning your family’s legacy! Becoming an utter disgrace. Of course everyone is going to hate you!” Mirjam is in shock too and moves away as well. “That’s what our people stand for…”

“I don’t think it’s fair and I don’t want it to happen anymore, but it’s understandable, y’know?” Grace is justifying herself.

“Yeah… It’s that stupid Orphanage’s fault for doing this to Wilma.” Mirjam agrees.

“……………………..” Wilma remains silent.

All of them are staring at you with the same bewildered expression on their faces, like you’re the one taking crazy pills here.

Sadly, your reply will have to wait for next time. Thanks for playing and see you next time!

I mean we don't even know Grace or Mirjam's last names, and it doesn't matter either because we're friends with them as people not with their families' legacies.

Something as minor as changing your last name doesn't betray your family. Family is with you through thick and thin no matter what for better or for worse. You carry on your family's legacy no matter what your name is by default, and the only time you truly betray that is when you stop Doing Your Best!

In unrelated news I think I found mention of the group Twist was in with the weird upside-down-judge-logo. Hard to tell if we should take them serious or not, but probably best to err on the side of caution.

So your thinking a lobotomy in addition to a coma?

I don't know what to think except that the juxtaposition of Twist's incompetence and the shit they pulled with our cell phone somehow gives me vibes we should regard the group as either really frivolous or very serious, but not anything in the middle.

I think Twist's nothing to worry about and out of the picture himself at this point though.
