You are Blair d’Rusalka. Student at the Garreg Mach Officer’s Academy, a Pegasus Knight, and an officer of the Black Eagles House. You were sent to the Academy by your guardian, Count Rusalka, to undergo training and become a Knight in his service. Last month, you took part in a major operation to put an end to a group of bandits terrorizing the Faergus countryside. Along the way, you aided a student from the rival Blue Lions house, Sylvain Gautier, in settling a family feud and retrieving the Lance of Ruin, a legendary Relic Weapon that nearly claimed your life.

Having returned to the academy and successfully passed your Pegasus Knight certification, you receive details of your next mission. You are to hunt down an old enemy from a rival religious sect that has been instigating unrest amongst the local peasant population, causing them to openly rebel against the Church of Seiros. Under the command of your knightly mentor, Leopold von Deltz, you lead a squadron of Black Eagles students to hunt down the culprit that tried to kill you a few months ago and bring him to justice.

You notice that Leopold and Elizabeth are separated from the rest of the group, speaking in a much more hushed, serious tone than your colleagues. You decide to leave Petra to deal with Bernadetta’s clamoring, and head over to report to your superior officer.

>“Sir. We’ve finished setting up the camp.” You inform Leopold.

“Good. We’ll continue the journey to Carcino Village bright and early tomorrow. Hopefully, we’ll find some traces of our man without too much issue.” The knight replies.

“Yes, and hopefully before any more innocents are dragged into the Western Church’s conflict.” Chimes in Elizabeth.

>“I’m surprised that this Dark Mage did not return back to his master after escaping with his life.”

“Ahh, that’s just what we were discussing.” Says Leopold. “The true identity of that man, or rather, who he’s working for.” Leopold stretches. From behind him, you can see Beathan stretching out on the grass, next to Leopold’s horse.

“The Western Church has taken quite the beating during the short period we’ve been at war. Four of the seven bishops that make up their ruling council have either been killed or captured by the Knights of Seiros. Judging that our friend is still actively antagonizing us though, I have no doubt that he is taking orders from one of the remaining bishops that elude us.”

>“Who are these bishops?” You ask.

“Of the three that remain, Bishop Abel is seen as the most reasonable, willing to work the most with the Central Church and having distanced himself from his compatriots’ actions. Our main culprits are Bishop Bennett and Bishop Santiago. Both are known radical elements in the Western Church, speaking out against the Archbishop regularly. We’ve yet to find any trace of either of them, but if the man we seek truly answers to them, he may be able to point us in the right direction.”

>“So what you’re saying is…”

“We’re going to try to take this Dark Mage alive, if possible. The information he holds may be key to ending this war. So don’t go skewering him outright if you can help it, please.”

>“Understood. I’ll do my best to keep the skewering to a respectable minimum.”

“It just doesn’t make sense though.” Says Elizabeth, staring down at her hands. “The Central and Western Church have their differences, but they’ve never broken into this level of violence before. Inciting Lord Lonato into rebellion, attempting to assassinate the Archbishop…what could the Western Bishops be thinking?”

“It’s hard to say what they stand to gain.” Leopold replies. “But the sooner we find this man, the sooner we’ll have our answers.”

The next day, you arrive at Carcino Village. Having Beathan to ride now makes marching a much smoother process you find, and you feel in great shape as you enter the village gates. Carcino Village is in a much better state than how you had found Tauros Village. The populace looks well-fed, and many of them are hard at work at the day’s tasks. Some of the villagers look at you with some suspicion, rightfully so given the size of your group and how armed you are. However, you notice a distinct lack of hostility, the likes of which were overabundant back at Tauros. Perhaps the Dark Mage has not come through here yet?

“Be on guard.” Warns Leopold. “These folk don’t seem keen on attacking us, but you can’t be too sure. Split up into groups and see if you can find any information on our target.”

Looking towards Petra and Bernadetta, you have a hard time imagining that either one of these girls will be an effective communicator for your purposes here.

>“Bernie, you’re with me. Petra, stick with Corrine.”

“C-coming!” Squeaks Bernadetta.

Your group heads in separate directions, looking for villagers to question. In your way, you see three villagers who may be able to provide some helpful answers.

>A): An old man is staring at you and Bernadetta. A foul look is plastered on his face, but he is holding his ground.
>B): A young man is leaning against the wall staring at you. He has a cheerful smile on his face and seems inviting.
>C): A young girl no older than 10 years is staring at you. A look of wonder is on her face as she examines your Pegasus.
>D): Don’t talk to any of them. Move further into the village.

You bid Beathan move closer to the young girl, whose eyes grow wider as you get closer. Despite the overabundance of pegasi in children’s fairy tales, they are still somewhat of a rare breed of creature to encounter. You imagine that this is probably the first time this young girl has ever actually seen the animal in-person.

“H-he’s beautiful…” The girl says.

>“Would you like to pet him? Go ahead, he doesn’t bite.” You say, gently.

“R-really?!” The girl stammers. As she inches a hand closer to Beathan, her hand contacts his white fur, and slowly begins brushing back and forth. “S-so soft!”

>The girl seems to be enjoying herself, so you figure now is as good a time as any to ask. “Hey, you live here, right?”

“Mhm.” She says, absentmindedly ignoring you in favor of continuing to touch Beathan.

>“Did a group of men happen to come through here? Some men that were maybe saying some…silly things?” You suddenly realize you have no idea how to talk to children.

“Mhm. They were really mad at someone called Rayuhh. Some of the boys here got mad too and left with them, and then the elder got even MADDER and kicked them all out of the village. Are they friends of yours?”

>“Uhh, not exactly. But I am looking for them! Do you know where they went?”

“You’re not friends?” The girl says, breaking away from Beathan to look at you. “That’s too bad. My brother went with them too. Mom was really upset. She said they’re going to Marche Village next.”

>“Y-your brother went with them?”

“Mhm, two days ago. His name is Norman. He’s big and strong! If you see him, tell him Becky said hi! Oh, and that mom is really worried.”

>“Y-yes, I’ll do my best. My name is Blair, and this is Beathan. Thank you so much for the help, Becky.”

“Beathan! That’s a cool name! You’re cool, Blair! Thanks for hanging out with me!”

The little girl runs off down the alley, out of sight. As you turn around, you notice that the two men you saw earlier are now gone.

>You sigh. “That was easier than expected, let’s go Bernie.”

“H-her brother is with them? Then that means…”

>“We’ll figure it out when it comes up.” You cut her off. For now, you think you would rather not kill Becky’s brother if you can help it.

You return to the village square, where the other members of your party have already gathered and fill them in on what Becky told you.

“Marche Village?” Asks Xavier. “That’s not too far from here.”

“We spoke with the Elder while you were gone, who corroborated with this girl told you.” Says Leopold. “About 20 armed men came to this village recently, spewing the usual nonsense. Fortunately, this village is a bit more well off than most, and they had a difficult time attracting more than a handful of men to their cause before leaving.”

“Twenty?!” Squeaks Bernadetta. “T-that’s a lot!”

“Pfft, I swear we killed twice as many as that number back at Tauros Village.” Boasts Corrine. “These Western dogs need all the men they can get.”

“Outnumbered or not, we can’t let them continue harassing these villages.” Says Leopold. “Grab your things, we’re moving out now.”

Departing Carcino, your group moves at a much quicker pace than what you had started at. Leopold believes that due to the Western Church’s larger numbers, they will be moving much slower than you, and he hopes to be able to catch up with them when they least expect it. This results in your group taking much quicker rests and keeping the chatter to a minimum as you stay on high alert. Two days later, you find yourself in front of the gates of Marche Village.

“Cadets, form up! Blair and Corrine, you two will crash through those gates with me first. Ranged and support units stay behind. Petra, cover our flank and skirmish as you see fit. Let’s go!”

You spur Beathan forward, opting not to take flight just yet and give away your unit’s position. As you rapidly approach the gates, you see a large group of people gathered in what appears to be the village square.

“The Goddess rewards her true believers! Archbishop Rhea is an apostate of the devil, persecuting members of the true faith. But we shall not let-“ You hear the familiar voice cut off as your group enters the scene, weapons unsheathed.

“You?!” The Dark Mage screams. All around, Western Church soldiers are snapping to attention as the villagers run around, yelling in fear of the armed conflict that seems ready to erupt.

“Are we interrupting something?!” Screams Leopold. “Surrender yourself, blasphemer! Or you and your ilk will be put to the sword here and now!”

“Hah! You stupid bastard! The Goddess has seen fit to reward me with a chance at redemption today, and I intend to seize it! Men! To arms!” The Dark Mage yells, retreating further into the town.

“Stand your ground! Blair, you’re our eyes above, act as you see fit! Try and ensure that those houses aren’t drawn into the fighting”

I would love to head toward the houses instead, but the archers in the way severely limit the area where we can manuever. We should prepare a counter charge after dealing with the first wave while our ranged units deal with 6,7,13, and 14

Heading your way are four soldiers of the Western Church, two wielding lances and the other two swinging wicked looking axes. Before they can even get near your front line, they are assailed by a variety of ranged attacks coming from your backline. Bernadetta neatly catches one soldier in the throat with an arrow as she activates her Crest. The soldier next to him stumbles as your javelin pierces his leg, sending him to the ground to roll in front of Leopold, who skewers him on his lance. (10xp gained, 60/100).

The two fighters don’t fare much better. Martha sets one ablaze, and he screams in agony until a Hand Axe from Corrine collides with his head. The last fighter is peppered by two swift arrows from Petra, before having his blood sucked dry by Xavier’s Nosferatu spell.

Just like that, the first wave of Western Soldiers lies dead in front of you. From behind their corpses, you can see another line of enemy combatants, though these look different from the ones that you just slew. They wear no armor, instead dressed in typical commoner garb. You quickly deduce that these must be the villagers from Carcino that joined up with the Dark Mage. Judging by the looks on their faces, they don’t appear eager to charge in after seeing you make quick work of their comrades.

“What are you louts doing standing around?!” You hear a nearby Western Church soldier yell. “The Goddess demands that these heathens be brought to justice! To die a martyr in the name of Seiros is one of the greatest honors there is!”

The conscripts reluctantly move closer towards, you, flanked by some archers and soldiers that had hung back from the initial charge.

“I’m not afraid!” One particularly large villager yells aloud. “Demons disguised as Knights; I won’t let you continue to harm the Goddess’ true believers! Follow me men!” The muscular man’s words seem to inspire his comrades somewhat, and they grow bolder.” As you study the man a bit closer, noticing that he is a few feat taller and stockier than his comrades, you realize that this must be the brother that Becky was talking about, Norman. What the hell is he even talking about though!? Does he even know what he’s fighting for?

From atop your Pegasus, you look out into the distance and see the arrival of some additional men. They don’t appear to wear the same gear as the Western Church soldiers though. Their ragtag garb and weaponry are the tell-tale signs of bandits. It seems they seek to take advantage of the confusion and loot the surrounding houses.

>QM Note: Bandits will loot their respective houses (X37, AP37) 3 turns after appearing if not stopped.

>A): Stand your ground, deal with this oncoming wave of enemies like the last. Norman may die, but it’s a safer bet than putting you at risk of those archers.
>B): Try and talk with Norman, mentioning that you met his sister. These villagers appear to have been misled. Maybe you can talk them over. (What do you say?)

"You there, the tall one! From my experience, young girls don't handle losing family well at all. You get what I'm saying, right Norman? For Becky's sake, please. She's worried about you."
Is about the best I can think of atm. Can't help but shake the feeling from the wording that his mother is upset as in not just worried but angry about him leaving. It's probably better to focus on his sister who he might have a closer relation with.

>B): Try and talk with Norman, mentioning that you met his sister. These villagers appear to have been misled. Maybe you can talk them over. (What do you say?)
>"Men of Carcino Village, listen to what I have to say. Not two months ago, I traveled to Tauros village on a peaceful mission to escort it's Priestess and any pilgrims to Garreg Mach for the Godesses Right of Rebirth. Whilst settling in for a nights rest in the village chapel, we learned that a group of mysterious men had been agitating the townsfolk to acts of violence. Pilgrims had been brutally beaten and driven away, and anyone who attended mass were coerced by threat of force to stop attending."
>"During that very night, those men came to the Chapel. To the House of the Godess. They broke down it's doors, battered down it's walls and tried to burn it down to it's very foundation. They tried to kill me and my companions and slaughter it's Priestess, because somehow murdering the innocent and peaceful will 'appease the Godess'. And when their attack faltered, when their swords broke and their magic failed them, these men scurried away into the darkness like rats. They left Tauros Village and took their promises with them, leaving only the weight of their crimes behind for those who sided with them to bear. And now, these very same men have come here to reap yet another batch of innocent lives, another group of men to bear their sins."
>"Men of Carcino, do not let these vile men lay on you a burden which is not yours to bear. Do not let them use you as sacrifices so they may slink away from Justice again. Lay down your arms, and go home to your families. They miss you terribly, and fear for what might become of you."

This next part is directed specifically towards Norman:
>"Norman, please go home. Your little sister Becky told me that your mother is worried sick about you. They miss you. Don't do this."

Maybe land Beathan a respectable distance from Norman and the archers for the last part, I feel such a gesture although small is important. Or not, it could just be my turbo autism speaking.

You’re sure that if left to their own devices, these villagers will get themselves killed charging your position. The others may not think twice about it, but you owe it to that little girl to at least try and talk some sense into your misguided attackers. You urge Beathan to move towards the leader of the pack, taking care not to get close enough that the archers are easily able to turn you into a pincushion.

“Where the hell do you think you’re going?!” Yells Leopold as you break formation.

>If your plan fails and these villagers don’t kill you, Leopold will surely finish you off. You yell out towards Norman. “You there, the tall one! From my experience, young girls don't handle losing family well at all. You get what I'm saying, right Norman? For Becky's sake, please. She's worried about you."

The man’s charge abruptly ends as he looks at you, face twisted in first confusion, then rage.

“W-what? You know Becky? Did you hurt her, you demon?!”

>“What?! No, you oaf! I spoke with your sister back at Carcino Village! Her and your mother are worried sick. Do you really want to throw away your life here!?

“B-but…you’re demons! You’ve been attacking followers of Seiros! That’s what the other guy said! Why should I believe you?!”

>“Why should you believe him?!” You retort.

The man lowers his axe and begins pondering. While lost in thought, one of his fellow villagers interrupts.

“N-Norman…those church guys don’t look none too happy with us…” He says.

“Shut up! I’m thinking here!” Norman yells back.

>“Think quicker! Or those bandits back there are going to be helping themselves to this village. Bandits that your new friends don’t look like they’re keen on stopping!”

“Eh? Bandits?” Norman turns around, spotting one of the newcomers to the battlefield helping himself to some loot. “Hey! Knock that off!” Norman turns to one of the Western Soldiers. “Don’t just stand there, do something!”

The soldier looks back in disbelief. “Are you daft?! The enemy is right in front of you! You’re facing the wrong way!”

“Shut up! If you won’t stop them, then I will!” Norman raises his fist, riling up his fellow conscripts. “Lads! We’ve been deceived! These men are not the noble knights they claim to be! Defend the village!”

With a roar, the villagers from Carcino raise their weapons and turn them against the nearby Western Church soldiers. Your allies catch up with you.

“How the hell did you know to do that?!” Asks Leopold.

>“They’ve turned their attention away from us, but they’re still at a disadvantage, and they’ll be slaughtered if we don’t back them up now!”

Leopold nods. “Move forward! Cut these Western dogs down!”

The Bandits are bait, if we focus on them Fritz will undoubtedly escape again. Instead we free up Norman's group and send them out to deal with the bandits. Norman takes the houses in the X row with the units on his side while we send Petra or Corrine to back up the villagers heading to AQ row. This leaves us free to push through the relatively weak frontline and deal with Fritz before he escapes.

Thickheaded as Norman and his friends seme to be, they’ll be slaughtered by the Western Soldiers if you don’t back them up. Spurring Beathan forward, you charge for the group to your left. The soldiers are tied up dealing with the villagers, and while they may have better equipment, they’re entirely unprepared for you to rush in. One of the Archers is holding his bow out trying to keep away a villager that is swinging wildly at him, only to find himself impaled at the end of your lance. (30 xp gained, 90/100).

The soldier next to him does not fare much better. An arrow from Bernadetta sends him to his knees, where his head is clubbed in by the blunt end of a villager’s pike. You catch from the corner of your eye that the soldiers on the other side suffer the same fate as Leopold and Corrine put them to the blade.

“What are you fools doing?!” The Dark Mage screams, anger and panic evident in his voice. “Push them back now!” As the Western soldiers begin to move forward, you notice that the Dark Mage is standing a healthy distance behind. Whether he’s looking to blast your party with magic from the backline, or make another run for it though, remains to be seen.

To your left, Norman is currently engaged with one of the brigands that was threatening the nearby house. You notice that Norman is unarmed, but rather fighting with a pair of wicked looking gauntlets, punching his foe and ducking the retaliatory blows. He looks like he may come out the victor, but the fight is still ongoing. The bandits to your right and up ahead remain unmolested.

“Form up and move forward!” Leopold yells. “Ranged units, get ready to fire! We’ll blast a hole through their front line and grab that bastard!”

I think Corrine would get mobbed. We're a lot more flighty and better suited with handling groups of inaccurate barbarians
>>
>>5000990
We're also the Junior Officer of this mission. We can't go charging ahead by ourselves, we are supposed to be leading the squad and we can't do that if we go running across the battlefield like this. Remaining in the thick of battle to command the largest contingent while delegating smaller tasks to subordinates is what we're supposed to do as an officer.

Trying to think of if there's anyway to save all the houses from being looted and it's looking... not too good. Norman is up possibly solo against someone a level higher and I'm not sure we can prevent the looting of X30 by ourselves unless we go there *now*. AQ30 meanwhile is just about doomed unless Leopold and the nearby villagers rush for it. It really is a question of risking it all for 3 or 4, or securing 2 and then taking on the main threat.
>E): You must help those villagers! Fly over to W31 and stop the bandit from looting.
Ultimately, a pegasus knight's strength is in flanking, something we'll be in perfect position of doing even after saving that house. I'd suggest sending villager 8 to help Norman and villager 9 to join the vanguard though, while Corine tries to secure AP27

You’re here to stop the Western Church, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to let these bandits do as they please! From where you are, it’s a simple matter to fly over the house in front of you, towards the Bandit currently harassing the house up ahead. He doesn’t stop trying to smash through the door in front of him until he notices he’s engulfed in the shadow of Beathan swooping down towards him.

Swapping to your sword, you swing down, catching the man in the shoulder and nearly cutting his arm off at the socket. As he howls in pain, he wildly swings his axe trying to catch you, but Beathan jumps back out of the way. Rising on his hind legs, he kicks the bandit square in the head, pulping it and almost sending him through the door he was trying to break through. A bit of a more violent end than you anticipated, but at least you know your new friend isn’t as delicate as he appears.

The door the bandit nearly broke through swings open, and a timid looking villager pokes his head out.

>”Stay in side, sir! We’re doing our best to protect you and the others, but it’s still dangerous out here!”

After saying this, you feel a sudden rush of heat as you turn around to find one of the houses behind you has been engulfed in flames.

“P-please! We don’t want any trouble!” The villager squeaks out. “You’re here to stop that mage right? Well then here, take this! It’s all we have of value! Do what you came here to do and then please leave!” The man throws a container in front of you and then heads back inside.

>You receive Pure Water x2 (Increases Resistance by 7, effect decreases by 1 each turn)

Leopold and Corrine have clashed head on with the Western Church forces and are doing their best to hold them at bay while your party’s ranged units back them up. Norman’s villagers have also entered the fray, though without immediate assistance, some of them are sure to perish.

You spot the Dark Mage, still hanging in the back, though now he’s somewhat isolated himself from the rest of his comrades. You have a clear path towards him, but there’s a lot going on right now. The final house in front of you is at risk of being burned by a bandit, and your comrades in the front lines may still need some help.

I doubt that the mage will have the opportunity to get away by the time we've swooped in on the bandit, also if we do abandon the houses some of the axe guys from the village might get distracted and try to rescue them. We have a clear line to him, very little chance of his forces interrupting his and have a pure water in our arsenal. The best save to reduce the injuries on our side is to end the battle ASAP. Seeing that house go up in flames steels your resolve that ensuring the safety of this village takes priority over capturing the enemy commander. You fly over the Dark Mage towards the other house that is currently having its door pounded on by a bandit, taking care to pop open the lid of the Pure Water that villager gave you and pour it over your head (+7 RES). You’re not sure if you feel any more resistant to magic than normal, but you find it won’t be necessary for now as you catch the bandit by surprise.

Chopping down with your sword, you swing down and connect your blade with his clavicle. The man screams out in pain, clearly not having expected to have been interrupted from his looting. He swings out his axe, nicking you in the arm (-6 HP, 28/34), but it’s not enough to phase you. Raising your sword again, you swing it down and cleave through the man’s skull, decorating the door with gore. (30xp Gained, 50/100).

As you kill the criminal, the door pops open, and an elderly man pokes his head through.

“S-Seiros bless you, child.” The man coos. “Here, take this. It belonged to my son. He was a soldier in the Leicester Army. I feared I’d have to use it myself if that scoundrel had broken through.”

>You Receive an Iron Sword+!

“Please…we’re a small village. We have no interest in whatever religious feud you’re involved in. Just finish up and leave us be.”

>You nod. “Thank you, sir, I promise we mean no harm.” You say, as the man barricades himself inside again.

As you turn around to head back to the battlefield, you spot the Dark Mage, heading towards your direction in a hurry.

“You! I remember you! You should have stayed in your monastery, little girl!”

>“Coward! Were you seeking to flee again?”

“The Goddess has need of me yet. I can’t allow myself to die at the blades of heathens adhering to the doctrine of that harlot, Rhea.”

>“Well, you won’t be getting away, nor will you be meeting your Goddess! You’ll stand trial for your crimes; I’ll make sure of it!”

The Dark Mage barks a harsh laugh. “Before I leave, let me pay you back for stabbing me back at Tauros.”

Whisps of Dark Magic rapidly surround Fritz, swarming up above until they are launched in your direction. You’ve seen him use this spell before. It’s the dark magic known as Banshee. The whisps collide directly with you and Beathen. (-13 HP, 15/34). The attack hurts, badly, but you recall it being much worse last time. That Pure Water paid off. Gritting through the numbing cold that’s biting you to the bone and threatens to knock you off your mount. You reach to Beathan’s side for your Javelin. You’ll show this bastard just how bad a mistake underestimating you is.

You retaliate by tossing a Javelin that connects square on in the chest, the same place you hit him back at Tauros. (BOSS -12 HP, 27/39).

The Dark Mage takes a few steps back, but he’s not down yet.

>>A): Your movement is cut in half after that last attack, but you’re still close enough to get in with your Steel Lance+. Perhaps you can finish him here?
two hits more will kill either of these two (with her Steel Lance+ Blair will deal 21 damage to Fritz, I believe) - but Blair doesn't have vantage so if this was the game then she would want to wait to allow Fritz to hit her again so that when she attacks she goes first and gets the first killing blow. but that sounds very boring and gamey and therefore I vote for Blair going ham and clutching this fight immediately.
Fritz could also switch to a different spell with more Mt or to Luna to overcome Blair's Res, ofc, so this is not safe. but it's what I want to read

>Blair's current HP: 15
To say that any combat with Fritz right now is fatal would be an understatement, we can not tank his damage even if we permachug Vulneraries every turn. He'll just straight up kill us. Not to mention if we attack with the Lance like >>5003791 suggest, Fritz will Dual Attack us and kill us instantly regardless of spell used.

>C): Try and create some distance between you and the Dark Mage. He’s a fearsome foe and you need backup.
We need to create distance whilst Leopold cleave through the remaining frontline and comes to our aid, he's the only one who can reliably tank Fritz and open him up either for a Finisher or straight up kill him.

The other alternative is that we chug one Vulnerary this turn and putting us on 25HP which is out of the 1-shot range for Luna, tank the next set of spells and counter with the Javelin, putting Frtiz at 15 HP which is within finisher range for the Steel Lance (MT 11 + Blair's STR 16 + 4 from being damaged = 31 - Fritz's DEF 10 = 21). I can do either, but since you people almost killed us on the Lance of Ruin earlier I am inclined to play it safe.

This is of course reliant on us not missing an attack, which is entierly possible and will leave us dead. But at least it's not a guaranteed death like charging straight at him this turn is.
>>
>>5003852
>Fritz will Dual Attack us and kill us instantly regardless of spell used.
Disregard this, I misread the spell and thought he hit us with Swarm and not Banshee. Engaging with Fritz this turn is still a really stupid idea and is likely to get us killed. Any other course of action is preferable.

fritz's goal is not really to kill blair, though he thinks he can do so trivially. his main goal is to get away and making a lot of distance lets him do that. moreover blair's movement is hindered...if you want to be defensive, at least just chug a vulnerary.
in general I'm not a fan of overdefensiveness. there's no real point for Fritz to hold back on using Luna in order to gotcha Blair. she's a pegasus knight, a class of fighter well known for their resistance, she's the perfect target for luna (other than the paladin who would probably just kill him outright anyway). he probably used the most damaging spell he had, it's just nonsensical to assume that he's trying to bait her or something. there's being safe and then there's being cowardly
>>
We have a greater range of movement than he does, don't we? Is there a chance to hang back for now, chug a vulnerary and possibly gain someone on horseback as ground support to get back to Fritz on the next turn, preferably while doling out a parting javelin for now?
>>
>>5005477
Banshee reduces movement, so blair is much slower though it's not completely clear where she can move at the moment or if she could outpace fritz; if you want to chug an vulnerary then there is literally an option for that. as for gaining backup that's a different matter and one that isn't affected by Blair's own actions.
>>
>>5005515
Thank you. I meant more like chugging a vulnerary and chucking a javelin in the same turn while moving toward where our allies see. Maybe pick up an archer to ride with us or w/e - I'm only getting caught up on the mechanics.

You’re beginning to get the impression that, as per usual, you may have bitten off more than you can chew. Fritz is wounded, but he’s not down for the count just yet, and unfortunately even with your Pure Water, you don’t feel confident in your ability to survive another attack of that caliber. Whether by instinct or sense, you try to put some distance between yourself and the Dark Mage, attempting to fly over the now burning house in front of you and use it as a barrier from another attack. In your haste to get away though, you neglect that your movement speed has been cut in half from the previous Banshee strike. In a panic, you quickly unhook one of the vulneraries attached to your belt and pour the contents on yourself. You instantly feel the invigorating effects of the salve, but not for long. (+15 HP, 30/34, -1 Vulnerary).

“Going somewhere?!” The Dark Mage taunts. Dark whisps surround him once again, swirling round and round until they launch themselves in your direction. They collide with you and your steed while you are in mid-air. The attack hurts a little more this time, but fortunately won’t kill you just yet. (-14 HP, 16/34.)

Your teeth are chattering as the cold of the Banshee works its way through your bones again. Before you can make your way behind the house, you launch another javelin towards man through the smoke in front of you. As your Pegasus touches down on the ground, you can hear him screaming. (BOSS -12 HP, 15/39)

>(20xp gained, (70/100)

In front of you, the battle appears to have been mostly wrapped up. Petra is keeping out of reach of a badly wounded Armored Knight, until Corrine plants her axe into his helm, denting the metal and killing him. Two of the villagers that defected to your side are on the ground, badly wounded, but looking like they’ll survive. Leopold rushes passed you on his steed. Impaled on his spear seems to be the corpse of an enemy mage.

“Where did he go?!” The knight questions you.

>You point in the direction you just came for. Your entire body is shivering from the numbing cold still, and it’s a wonder you were able to even hit the mage a second time. “H-he’s trying to make a run for it again.”

“Shit!” Leopold shakes the mage off his spear, before galloping in the direction of the mage.

Xavier attends to you after the Paladin leaves. From the sounds of things, the fighting has ended, and the rest of the Western Church soldiers have been routed.

“Hang still, Blair.” Says Xavier. “I’ll get you back up.”

“Did you go charging after the big bad again, Blair?” Asks Martha. “Geeze, you’re a glutton for punishment!”

“Martha! Don’t talk to your commanding officer that way!” Chides Xavier.

“No, she’s right.” Says Corrine, joining the conversation. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d almost think you’re suicidal.”

>“S-shut u-up.” You manage to spit out through chattering teeth.

“Aww, you look like you’re freezing! Do you need me to warm you up?” Corrine teases.

>“Leopold went after the Dark Mage! We need to go back him up!”

“Do not be worrying.” Petra says, looking off ahead. “It looks like you worked the good job.”

“Unhand me swine!”

As you look ahead, you see Leopold on his mount, holding a length of rope. At the end of it is the prone form of the Dark Mage, being dragged by the Paladin. Upon closer inspection, he appears to have your javelin sticking out of his leg. Your final toss managed to hamper his mobility, making it a trivial matter for Leopold to capture him on horseback.

“I said let go of me! Heathens! Swine! The Goddess will see fit to punish you for your transgressions! It is her will that I carry ou-“ The screaming man is interrupted as Leopold gets off his mount, picks the wounded man up with one hand, and punches him in the head, knocking him out cold. He drops the mage back on the ground.

“Xavier, see to it that his leg wound is healed. We wouldn’t want him bleeding out before we get back to the monastery.” Leopold says.

“Yes sir!” Xavier finishes bringing you back to full health, before running off to attend to the Dark Mage.

“Good work out there, Blair.” Leopold says, turning to face you. “While you were certainly a little more reckless than I would have liked, I can’t deny that you produced results. Saving those houses from the bandits, wounding the enemy commander to allow his capture, and even turning those villagers over to our side. You performed admirably.”

The house that you are all standing by groans and creeks as the roof caves in from the flames.

“Though I wish we could have saved everyone.” Leopold grimaces.

From up ahead you hear a stir occurring. Now that the fighting is over, the other villagers have come out of hiding. At their head is an elderly man, who you figure must serve as the village chief.

“I’d best go explain.” Says Leopold, walking off towards the group up ahead.

You walk towards Norman and the two other men from Carcino that managed to survive the battle. They all look worse for wear, and are being attended to by Elizabeth, who is patching up their wounds.

>“How are you holding up?” You ask Norman.

The blonde man turns to you, the scowl that was previously on his face disappearing. Up close, he’s much larger than you first thought, with bulging muscles that remind you a bit of Raphael.

“We’ll live…though I wish I could say the same for the two lads that came with me.”

>“What were you thinking, following that man?” You ask.

The scowl returns to his face. “He put a bunch of foolish thoughts in our heads. They they was heroes, seeking to liberate the land from the Archbishop. That it was her fault we could barely make ends meet, and that they were the righteous ones, who needed our help.” Nathan spits on the ground. “All hogwash. They didn’t even lift a finger to stop them bandits. Cause of them that damn house went up in flames, and my friends are dead.”

>You sigh. “I’m sorry about your friends. You’re not the first people that mage has done this to. But thanks to your help, we’ll be able to finally bring him to justice.”

Norman shakes his head. “Don’t feel like I helped much at all. You people seem strong enough that you could have easily torn through me and my friends without breakin’ a sweat. But you saw fit to spare us. I won’t forget this…uhh…”

>“Blair. And don’t thank me. Thank that little sister of yours. I did it for her.”

Norman looks down, embarrassment creeping into his face. “Thanks Blair, I promise you, I’ll make it up to you one day.”

Leopold returns to your group, having finished his conversation with the elder of Marche Village.

“These folks are grateful enough that we saved most of them from those bandits, but they want us out of here as soon as possible.” Leopold says. “Wrap up and let’s get moving.”

Before you leave, you and the others assist with burying the villagers that died in the bandit attack, along with Norman’s friends. The Western Church Soldiers are searched for any intel, before being thrown in a mass grave.

Along the way back to Garreg Mach, you and the others stop back at Carcino Village to drop off Norman and the others.

“Big Brother!” You hear the familiar voice of Becky call out, as she spots you and Norman enter the village together. She jumps straight into her brother’s arms.

“Squirt! I hear you was worried about me!” Norman says, spinning the little girl around.

“Stupid! Mom hasn’t stopped crying since you left! Go say sorry right now!”

“R-right.” Norman turns to you. “Thanks again, Blair. Like I said, I don’t know when or how, but I promise I’ll make it up to you someday! In the meantime, though, take this.”

Norman hands you a brown, sparkling gem.

>“Thank you, Norman.” You bow. I look forward to meeting you again someday.

As the lad runs off in the direction of his home, Becky sticks around.

“Thanks for bringing him back home, Blair. You and Beathan really are the coolest, you’re like real life heroes!”

>“It was nothing, really! I’m glad I was able to help.”

Becky reaches into her pocket, pulling out a white flower that you recognize as a Verona.

“I found this when I was picking berries in the woods earlier. I thought it was really pretty! You can have it!”

“I’m gonna grow up big and strong so I can help you and Beathan out one day too, okay!?”

Bernadetta, who had been standing besides you the entire time, gives off a sigh of relief. “You did a really nice thing, Blair.”

>“Yes…It’s nice to not have to kill someone for a change.”

Bernadetta merely nods and looks down to the ground.

Bernadetta sighs. “No, it’s my fault. You at least asked me and gave me a choice in the matter. Lately I’ve gotten used to that not necessarily always being the case.”

The two of you begin walking back towards the inn.

“I never wanted to come to this stupid Academy. But it wasn’t my choice. Everyone’s always…making me do things! My family sending me here to train, my father trying to marry me off to some rich husband, even the Professor and Edelgard! I don’t want to go out there and kill people, but they both make me do it. For once I’d love to just have a say in the matter…”

>“I’m sorry, Bernie. I had no idea how you felt.”

“It’s fine, that’s just my life!” Bernadetta shouts, somewhat shrilly. “Even though I didn’t want to do this, I’m glad you at least gave me an option. And I knew that…you wouldn’t take me along if you thought it was truly dangerous. You’ve done a pretty good job at keeping me safe so far. So, I figured I could try and return the favor”

>“I appreciate that.. And don’t worry, I’ll always keep protecting you out there!” You flex a muscle. “That’s what friends are for, right?”

The purple-haired archer sighs, looking to the ground. “My father has never been…a particularly warm person. He hates commoners. He would strictly forbid me from conversing or befriending them. But…I’m glad I didn’t listen to him. If I had, I’d never have become friends with you or Dorothea! I guess what I’m saying is…thank you for putting up with me, Blair. You’re one of the reasons being at Garreg Mach isn’t all that bad.”

>“Thanks Bernie. I didn’t exactly… choose to come here either, but I’m glad we’ve been able to make the most of it. Let’s finish this year off right!”

>You feel a stronger bond growing with Bernadetta!

The return trip to Garreg Mach goes by without incident. The Dark Mage, whom you later discover is named Fritz, has kept his mouth shut for most of the journey, occasionally grumbling some obscenities about the Archbishop or Leopold. Fortunately, though, he doesn’t put up much resistance, and you’re able to make it back to the monastery without any issues.

“Great job out there, all of you. Those were trained soldiers, and even still we were able to defeat them while limiting civilian casualties. There just may be some hope for you cadets yet.” Leopold says. “Come see me later this month, Blair. Obviously, my training is paying off, but we mustn’t let up.”

>You wince, not looking forward to another session of Leopold brutalizing you. “Y-yes, looking forward to it.”

As the Paladin makes to leave, restraining Fritz via rope, the Dark Mage offers his first sign of resistance, pausing to address you.

“Twice already our battles have ended without a conclusion. I hope the next time we meet; we finally end things.” Fritz smirks.

>“I imagine the next time I see you will be at the Executioner’s Block.”

“For your sake, I hope so.” The Dark Mage retorts back.

“Keep it moving!” Leopold shouts, dragging the mage along with him.

“Thank you for the help, Blair.” Elizabeth says. “This was but the first step to bringing some justice to the citizens of Tauros Village. I’ll be staying at the monastery until the end of the year. If you ever have need of me again, please don’t hesitate to ask.” With that, she departs.

“Great job out there, kids!” Corrine says. “Why with skills such as those, I’m sure we’ll have no problem winning the Battle of the Eagle and Lion this month.”

>“Battle of the who and what now?”

>“You don’t know, Chief?!” Exclaims Martha. “The Battle of the Eagle and Lion is the biggest event of the school year! It’s like the Mock Battle, only a hundred times bigger, with every student from each house duking it out to be the best!”

“This year’s battle is sure to be high-profile, what with the heirs of each of the three nations leading their houses.” Says Xavier.

“E-every student!? I can’t sit out?!” Asks Bernadetta.

“You sure can’t!” Says Corrine. “Every student is obligated to compete on behalf of their house.” She turns to you. “Me personally, I’m looking forward to having some fun with some of Blair’s Blue Lion friends.”

You sigh. “If you’re trying to get a rise out of me, it won’t work.”

“Oh, that’s great to hear! I was worried you’d try and stop me. I’m a little jealous of that Ashe kid, you know? Maybe I’ll get him first.”

>“Why are you like this?!”

Your group disbands, another successful mission behind you. The battle at the end of this month, while non-lethal, promises to be the biggest yet. You’ll want to make sure you’re ready to go all out.

I'm going to have to apologize to the Magic Chads for this, but the battle with Fritz made me realize that in terms of Attack Speed, we're actually not doing that hot right now. Had Fritz attacked us with Swarm he would've lowered our speed to the point where he'd be dual attacking us with every spell aside from Banshee, and that ain't good at all. If we assume Fritz is the lowest bar for Bosses going forward we need to up our Attack Speed to stay relevant. Hence I feel the next few months of training should look like this:

>A): Pick two Proficiencies to raise by one grade this month (Heavy Armor)
>B): Pick one Proficiency to raise by two grades this month (Reason/Sword)

Now for those of you who don't know how Three Houses calculates Attack Speed, I'll explain it real quick so I can get to why we should do Heavy Armor:
A units Speed is used as the base, and the weight of the current equipment is subtracted from it to give the units Attack Speed.

Each weapon, spell and off-hand item has an individual weight to it, but is only used for calculations when wielded. Having a Javelin in our inventory but not equipped will not affect our A/S for attacks made with our Steel Lance for example.

For every 5 points of strength a character has, they reduce the weight of items by 1. Our STR of 16 thus gives us a natural weight reduction of 3.

Our Steel Lance has a weight of 11, minus 3 from our STR for a total of 8. Subtracting 8 from our SPD of 16 gives us a total of 8 for our A/S with the Steel Lance.

Now to the main gist of things. Heavy Armor, when Rank C is reached, will give a trait that passively lowers item weight by 3. This is basically the same as giving us +3 Speed, and will let us equip shields for extra DEF and RES with minimal impact on our A/S. Honestly we should've been aiming for this much earlier, but it completely slipped my mind in the earlier threads until I went back to play the game again this week. Very gomenasai from my part, I should've caught this way earlier. Preasu forgivu.

Rank C Heavy Armor isn't trivial to reach at all, it's too much of an investment. Blair's best two abilities, Lance and Authority, are the only ones that she's raised above that, with not even Flying that high. Weight -3 is good, sure, but I'm personally not really here to minmax Blair, or else I wouldn't want her to be a Dark Flier in the first place. if we're talking about stretch goals, then Alert Stance is more enticing to me, and Blair won't reach that if she gets distracted so thoroughly
In encounters where we're concerned about her attack speed, Blair can switch to her Iron Sword+. And most of the time she definitely won't be hit by Swarm - Dark Mages are rare. You're catastrophizing, IMO

Nah once we max out Authority and get our skills in order for our future promotes, any surplus study sessions are better off being used to buff flying (for alert stance+) and swords (to eventually get axebreaker at B). Otherwise we're just throwing levels away.

>You're catastrophizing,IMO
Attack Speed is the single greatest defensive and offensive metrics that exist. Have enough of it and you double your damage output, have too little and every combat risks killing you. I wouldn't call it catastrophizing to argue that we should ensure we have at least enough to not get outsped. Fritz was a mage who generally have lower speed growth than most units [Citation Needed, I don't remember the actual stat growth for mage classes], but he was still within range to dual us had he played it smart.

When I say we need more speed, it's not because we need it to bully Fritz. It's because we need it to not get outsped by other units with high speed growths. Fritz just made me realize we don't have spectacular speed stats.

>if we're talking about stretch goals, then Alert Stance is more enticing to me
Alert Stance is good in the game, but only because the AI is brain dead and will throw themselves at the one unit it can attack, regardless of hit chance or potential damage output. I'd expect the QM to not let us get away with such cheese when battles intensifies later on. Alert Stance requires inaction to activate and thus handing over initiative to the enemy, something I personally can not see working out well for us in combat.

>>5009879
>Rank C for any payoff
...yes? Is there an argument here? Every skill requires Rank C minimum before it gives you benificial passive perks. Anything below that gives you Combat Arts or negligible accuracy/evade buffs only.

Chapter 7: White Clouds, Wyvern Moon, Battle of the Eagle and Lion

>You receive 500 gold for selling the Brown Gem, and another 500 gold from Count Rusalka for this month’s expenses. (2750g current.)

You decide it best not to neglect your lessons in Authority and Reason, especially after you’ve come so far in both. As for what you plan on emphasizing this month, you want to get a bit more practice with Beathan in. The last battle showed you just how invaluable your new ally is, and you want to familiarize yourself with him as much as possible.

Garreg Mach is abuzz with chatter about the Battle of the Eagle and Lion. From what you’ve gathered, the event is the biggest of the school year. Nobles from across the three nations of Fodlan come in droves to Gronder Field to watch the battle unfold and place wagers on who they believe will win. It’s not uncommon for cadets that distinguish themselves during the battle to find themselves a patron who wishes to then enroll them into their service.

The chatter you’ve overheard suggests that this year, the Black Eagles are the favorite. You’re not surprised, you expected as much from the house that managed to put down Lonato’s rebellion and retrieve the Lance of Ruin. Not to mention the latest encounter with the Death Knight, that you were so conveniently absent for.

That week at the Officer’s Meeting, discussions on the upcoming battle are being led by the Professor, Edelgard and Hubert.

“The rules of this month’s large-scale battle are similar to the ones from the Mock Battle, with a few changes in place. A house is defeated either when all of their students are incapacitated, or their control point is captured.” Begins Hubert. “Additionally, Heroes Relics are banned during this event. While this means we are unable to make use of the Professor’s Sword of the Creator, we at least won’t have to contend with the Gautier boy’s Lance of Ruin, or any other relics that may have found their way to the academy.”

That’s a relief, you weren’t keen on facing that weapon again any time soon.

“We’ll need to make sure everyone is able to pull their weight. It’s likely that both the Blue Lions and Golden Deer will seek to eliminate us first."

The Professor takes over. “We’re still working out the strategy that we’ll want to have in place. There will be a certain degree of flexibility required, but it’s imperative that we’re all able to operate as one cohesive unit out there. As such, leadership positions will be a bit different this month.”

“Our infantry units will be led by myself.” Says Edelgard. “Offensive magic squads by Hubert, while Linhardt will oversee the support squadron.”

The green-haired boy interrupts the proceedings with a groan.

“Petra is in charge scouting.” Edelgard continues. “Bernadetta, our archers, Ferdinand, our ground calvary, and Blair, our flying calvary.”

Your heart almost bursts out of your chest at the sound of your name. Sure, you’ve been leading a small squad of units into battle, but to now oversee ALL of the Black Eagle Pegasus Knights and Wyvern Riders?

“We’ll be using this month to brainstorm our plan for the battle.” Says Hubert. “In the meantime, I suggest you all use the time to train diligently. Don’t let the fact that we’re the favorites get to your head. You should all be aware by now how strong some of the students in the other houses are. If they do truly decide to team up on us first, we’ll need to work as efficiently and cohesive as possible.”

After the meeting is adjourned, you decide to go speak with Edelgard in person.

>“I’m flattered you chose me to lead our flying units, but surely someone else is better suited to the job, no?”

“Flattery has nothing to do with it, Blair. I heard all about your recent accomplishments in Leicester.” Says Edelgard. “While we only have about a dozen or so Pegasus and Wyvern riders in our class, you’re by far the best as far as individual skill and tactical prowess goes.”

>“Ah, t-thank you.”

“Did you think such a lofty position was out of your reach due to your status as a commoner?” Asks the future emperor.

>“I suppose…the thought might have crossed my mind.”

Edelgard smiles. “I hoped you’d realize by now that’s not how I operate. You have the makings of a skilled Commander inside you, Blair. I intend for you to show that this month.”

>You try and play it cool, thought you can’t help but admit that having the future leader of your nation praise your hard work is exciting. “I won’t let you down!”

You now feel more determined than ever to make a good showing this month and win the battle.

You figure it best to get this month’s training session with Leopold out of the way. You venture forth to the Knight’s Ground, where you find Leopold drilling the junior Knights of Seiros as per usual.

“Good to see you again so soon, Rusalka.” Leopold says. He points to a corner of the grounds, where some benches and weights are set up. “Pick up those weights and start lifting. When you’re done come see me for sparring.”

Sighing deeply, you roll up your sleeves and begin the arduous process of lifting the stacked weights above your head. It’s easier than it was last month, though towards the end of your reps, you need to be bailed out by the same knight that helped you last time, Alois.

>“Thank you for the help, sir.” You say, bowing towards the kindly knight.

“It was my pleasure! I’ve noticed you working hard with Sir Leopold all year. I certainly hope all this training has bene worth the ‘weight’!” Alois chuckles deeply.

>“Uhh…r-right, me too.” You head back to the center of the grounds, picking up your training spear and getting ready to square off with Leopold once more.

“You’re improving remarkably fast.” Leopold calls out, brandishing his sword and shield. “No need for me to hold back as much as I used to.”

You both eye each other, gripping your weapons tightly. The bell rings signifying the start of the spar.

Previously, you would have charged in like a banshee, jabbing your spear out and trying to catch the veteran off guard. Now though, you remain perfectly still, holding your ground and studying the man as he inches nearer. Once he gets close enough, your spear lashes out, quicker than the man perhaps anticipated. Leopold loses the game of chicken as your spear catches him square in the shoulder, sending him back reeling a few steps.

“Good, good!” The knight yells.

This continues for a few more minutes, with Leopold trying to close the gap on you, only to be forced back by your well-timed spear thrusts.

“You’re finally thinking clearly in the heat of battle instead of just charging in!” Yells Leopold, continuing to stay on the defensive. “However!”

The knight finally manages to break through your rain of thrusts, slamming his shield into your chest. Wind knocked out of you, you struggle to regain your footing as the knight kicks his foot out, knocking you to the ground. Before you can get up, you find his sword already at your throat. Your body is begging to continue fighting, but your brain pulls through, and you yield the fight. The knight extends a hand and brings you back to your feet.

“Good, but we’re not quite there just yet. I think one more round of training should suffice.”

>“Well, I certainly feel a bit stronger at the very least.”

Leopold nods. “You’re a far cry from the girl I met just a few months ago, that’s for sure. I imagine that barring certain cadets that are wielding Crests, you’ve surpassed most of your fellow students.”

>“The gallant Sir Leopold, sparing some praise for me? I’m flattered!”

The knight chuckles, quite uncharacteristically. “Don’t get used to it. You still have a long way to go before you’ll truly impress me. Incidentally, do you have a plan for when you graduate this year?”

>“Well, I was most likely going to serve my liege lord as a knight.”

Leopold scoffs. “What a shame. I think you’d go far were you to join the Knights of Seiros. A graduate of the Academy with your talent could easily land a role as an officer. I understand you owe this adoptive father of yours quite the debt, but perhaps think it over some in the coming months?”

>You’re taken aback at how nice Leopold is suddenly treating you. “Very well, I shall give it due consideration.”

“Good, now get out of here. I’ll be watching the battle this month. You had better not disappoint me out there.”

>You gain a B-Support with Leopold!

The next week goes by, and Garreg Mach is inundated with outside visitors. While the monastery was previously full of pilgrims from across Fodlan during the Rite of Rebirth, this month they’ve all been replaced by the various members of the nobility that have come to watch the upcoming spectacle. You’ve received no word that Count Rusalka will be in attendance, you can’t help but admit that all the watchful eyes make you a tad nervous anyway. You get through the jitters by practicing heavily with your lance this week and brushing up on your magical skills that have been sorely neglected.

After leaving class for the day, you think back to a comment Corrine made, just after your group returned from Carcino Village. It was when she mentioned how she would hurt Ashe during the Battle of the Eagle and the Lion. It’s natural to be upset after hearing someone talk like that about one of your friends, but this somehow felt different. You have a hard time believing that comment would have cut you as deeply had she been referring to Felix or Sylvain.

“Blair! How are you?

You look up to see the smiling form of Mercedes. You haven’t seen the girl in a few months, but she looks as friendly and cheerful as ever, willing to chat with you even though you’ll be enemies at the end of this month.

“You look lost in thought. Is there anything that I can help with?”

>You sigh. You figure it’s probably okay confiding with the Blue Lion student. “Hmm, now that you mention it. I’m worried about Ashe. It hasn’t been that long since the events in Gaspard. How’s he doing?”

Mercedes frowns. “Well, Ashe is a sweet boy, but he doesn’t really open up too much about himself. He’s always thinking of others first, even though I’m sure that the pain of seeing Lonato die is still greatly affecting him.”

>“I-I’d like to help! He shouldn’t have to suffer through that alone. Do you have any suggestions?”

“Oh? That’s so sweet of you, Blair!” Mercedes claps. “Well, I know when I’m feeling down, some sweets tend to lift my spirits. Do you know how to bake, Blair?”

>You do in fact know how to cook, and surprisingly well too, assuming that your true father wasn’t just saying that to compliment you. Growing up without a mother, most of the domestic chores fell upon your shoulders, though that stopped for the most part once you went to live with Count Rusalka. Still, baking treats was a beast all its own. “Uhh, perhaps you can help out?”

“I’d love to! Let’s go to the mess hall right now!” Mercedes grabs your hand, and the two of you are off. As you make it to one of the cooking areas set aside for students, Mercedes digs into the pantry for the appropriate ingredients. The speed and efficiency at which she grabs everything gives her away as an obvious expert.

“Now then, I’ll call out the ingredients, and you start mixing everything together, okay?”

>“Right!”

What follows next is the careful process of making sure you’re mixing the right amounts of butter, eggs, flour, salt, and sugar, while Mercedes watches over your shoulder. The girl is a patient teacher, gently guiding your hand and correcting you whenever you make a mistake. After waiting around half an hour for the cake to bake, Mercedes takes the finished dessert out of the oven. All that’s left afterwards is the arduous process of covering the cake with frosting.

“And we’re done! Great job, Blair. Maybe you were actually destined to become a baker instead of a knight!”

>“Somehow I doubt that. Thank you, Mercedes. I hope Ashe will enjoy this.”

“I’m sure he’ll love it. Especially since you made it yourself.” Mercedes says.

>“Huh? What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Oh, nothing! Good luck out there, Blair!” Mercedes says smiling, before taking her leave.

>You feel a stronger bond growing with Mercedes!

Holding the cake in your hands, you leave the mess hall, eventually finding Ashe over by his usual spot in the Fishing Grounds. The boy looks up as you approach him.

“Hey Blair! What do you have there?” He says, cheerfully.

You feel that oh-so familiar and despicable blush rushing to your cheeks as you hold the cake out for Ashe.

>“I-I baked this for you!” You say, offering the dessert to Ashe.

What seems like an excruciatingly long silence follows, though it’s only really a brief few seconds, as the reality of the situation sets in.

“W-what?” Says Ashe, surprise evident in his voice. “T-thank you, Blair! That’s so nice of you!”

Ashe opens the box, revealing the finished product. The cake, covered in vanilla frosting, has sprinkles in the shape of a crudely drawn smiley face.

“It looks great! I didn’t know you were a baker. I hope this isn’t all for me though and that you’ll have a slice!”

“O-of course! It was my pleasure; I hope you like it!”

The two of you head to a nearby bench and table to share the dessert. As Ashe begins cutting himself a piece, he asks you a question.

“I’m really grateful for this, Blair, but what made you want to bake me a cake? I hope I didn’t make you go through too much trouble.”

>“Well, you see…” You trail off, looking towards the ongoing fishing tournament. You spot Alois, the kindly knight from before, giving off a feverish roar, holding the large fish he just caught over his head.

“Blair?” Ashe asks, puzzled.

>”Well I was looking to practice my baking skills! And I thought that I’d share some with you since…I value your opinion!”

Another short silence between the two of your follows as the fishing tournament behind you continues ramping up, with people yelling in excitement.

“Y-you do?” Asks Ashe, puzzled.

>“Of course I do! Why wouldn’t I? After all I…you know, like you?” You have a sudden urge to jump into the nearby water the second the words come out of your mouth. That must have sounded absolutely terrible! Why didn’t you consult Dorothea before doing this stunt?!

“B-Blair!” Ashe looks shocked at your sudden declaration. The boy’s face is now beat bright red, matching your own. “I-I don’t know what to say. I’ve never really…been involved with anyone romantically before.” He nervously takes a bite of his slice of cake, only to begin choking, starting to cough.

>“A-are you okay?!” You ask, standing up quickly, ready to administer aid.

“I’m-I’m fine!” Ashe sputters out, coughing and clearing his throat. “You just…caught me by surprise is all.”

>“I’m sorry if I caused you any trouble.”

“No!” Ashe exclaims. “I didn’t mean it that way. To be honest, I’m not very good at this. My only reference for these kinds of things is watching Sylvain and well…that’s not exactly helpful.” The boy sighs. “The truth is, I like you too. And I’m grateful for all that you’ve done for me despite us barely knowing each other. And…I’d like to repay that.”

>“Ashe?”

The boy smiles, seeming much more at ease. “I’d like to get to know you more, Blair. The things you like and dislike. More about yourself, and your hopes and your dreams. I’d like to become a knight right alongside you and support each other each step of the way. So, that being said, I hope I can spend more time with you.”

>You nod. “Yes, yes of course!”

You spend the rest of the afternoon sitting with Ashe, telling him about yourself and filling him in on some of your history. The two of you talk for hours, until the fishing tournament disperses, and the sun begins to set. You both leave, with a smile on your faces and a promise to continue meeting with each other more frequently.

>You gain an A-Support with Ashe! (+2 to damage dealt when near each other)

As you return to your dorm, you find Dorothea already there, and excitedly tell her about the day’s events.

“Way to go, Blairy!” The girl encourages you. “I’m so proud of you finally stepping out of your shell, and making the first move on a boy, no less! You’ll have that kid wrapped around your fingers before you even know it!”

The final week of the month arrives, and you spend it brushing up on your skills with the spear. You’ve found that the tension amongst all three houses has been ablaze lately. Now more than ever, students are keeping to their own respective houses, not wanting to give away anything before the big showdown.

You think back to what Leopold told you. About how far you’ve come this year, and how you have the potential to surpass many of your classmates. As happy as you are to have told Ashe how you truly feel, the biggest thing on your mind right now is winning the Battle of the Eagle and the Lion and making a good showing.

For now, though, you have one last moment of free time before then.

>>Speak with Edelgard, about her goals and strategy.
I am okay with Fishing, but we definitely got a lot of fluff this month already, so training wouldn't be out of place either.
I also think Blair should get a pre-emptive handle on how her commander and sovereign might want her to act and prioritize. She took her own initiative in her last mission, but knowing what Edelgard's tactical preferences are will help her decide, for example whether Blair should lean into the ability of her fliers to be independent mage killers, or if she should instead use flight to reinforce an infantry battle line or whatever

oh and of course it's important that Blair knows what Edelgard wants in life as a person. Edelgard is the central figure for the course of upcoming history and Blair has direct access that she should take advantage of

You decide to pay a visit to Beathan. Bonding with your Pegasus is an integral part of your newfound profession, and you want to make sure that the two of you are on the same wavelength. Additionally, you find it may be helpful to speak with Serena and gain some further insight on Pegasus Knight formations prior to the Battle of the Eagle and the Lion.

You find Beathan resting in his stables. The winged steed proved during the last battle that he’s not just a method of transportation, as your mind recalls how he turned that bandit’s head into mush with just a kick of his front legs. You give him a fresh wash, making sure to massage behind the ears, and take him out for a quick fly around the grounds. After a while, you spot Serena, in conversation with another student, and decide to go and speak with her.

>“Lady Serena!” You call out, hoping to grab her attention. “Do you have a moment? I was hoping to grab a few pointers before the battle next week.”

Serena turns her attention towards you, smiling, but shaking her head. “Hello, Blair. I hear you performed remarkably during your prior mission. I’d love to help you out, but unfortunately, I don’t believe it would be fair to the other students.”

>“Huh? But Leopold trained me this month.”

“Well, he’s certainly stubborn enough to bend the rules a bit. Especially for a student that he’s taken under his wing. But unfortunately, many of the Pegasus Knights here look to me for guidance. I would feel remiss if I showed preference to any one of them.”

>You nod, a bit disappointed. “Very well, I understand.”

As Serena departs, the student that she was speaking with previously stays put, studying you. She’s a blonde, with long hair, and a stern look on her face. Her uniform indicates that she is a member of the Blue Lions house.

“Heh, I didn’t have any luck with her either. Did you say your name was Blair d’Rusalka?” She asks.

>“Hmm, yes that would be me. Have we met?”

The girl nods her head. “Not quite. My name is Ingrid Galatea. A pleasure to meet you.” She extends a hand, which you shake in turn.

“I’ve heard a lot about you from some of my classmates. Sylvain and Ashe in particular. Though I had no idea that you had become a Pegasus Knight like myself!”

>“Ahh yes, just recently. So, I take it then that we’ll be competing against each other next week.”

Ingrid’s expression turns a bit stern as she regards you. “Yes, that’s correct. To be honest, I’ve actually been looking forward to crossing blades with you for a while now.”

>“Ehh?”

“Back at the Mock Battle, during the beginning of the year. I watched you fight Felix. The way you hit him with that Fireball spell was rather…unbecoming, don’t you think?”

>You shrug. “He didn’t seem to mind. Battle is battle. Had I conformed to some knightly code, I’d have been defeated then and there.”

“Is that so?” Ingrid says. “It appears that you and I have…a different way of doing things on the battlefield. How about this, Blair. Let’s see which one of us is right come next week.”

You nod. “Very well. I look forward to competing against you, Ingrid.”

The girl smiles, giving you a nod in return before heading off to practice with her mount. After she’s gone, you do the same, working some more with Beathan, before wrapping up for the day.

>30xp gained! (50/100)

As you return to your dorm room, you find Dorothea, already waiting for you.

“There you are!” She exclaims. “Where were you? On a date with Ashe?”

>“No, I think I made an enemy actually.” You sigh, sitting on your bed.

“Really? That’s new. If you ask me, you’re becoming quite popular around here lately!”

>“Huh? Why’s that?”

“There was a man just outside the monastery asking about you.” Says Dorothea. “To tell you the truth, I thought he might be another admirer. He looked kind of handsome…and a bit scary too. Not really my type…”

>“Really? Did he give you a name?”

Dorothea shakes her head. “No, he just told me if I saw you, to tell you that he would be at the Jewel of Fodlan. That’s the inn a lot of those nobles are staying at. The ones that came to watch the battle this month. He said you’d know him when you saw him.”

You feel a pit erupt in the middle of your stomach. Did someone from Rusalka actually come to watch the battle?

You manage to convince Dorothea to come with you to the Jewel of Fodlan. You don’t know who this stranger may be just yet, and you find comfort in having safety in numbers. The inn isn’t hard to find, it’s one of the more lavish ones located just outside the monastery. Nobles from across Fodlan have been using it as a place of residence while waiting for the battle this month. You imagine Dorothea’s search for a prospective husband is what brought her here in the first place.

As the two of you enter the inn, you immediately find that the two of you stand out of place amongst the surrounding nobles.

>“Do you see that man around here still?”

“Let’s see…I think he was…there!” Dorothea points to a table in the corner, where two people are currently seated, though only one of them catches your attention. He is a giant of a man, almost wild looking, with flowing red hair that goes past his shoulders. Unlike the other nobles in the inn, he’s dressed in full armor, with a wicked looking spear sitting next to his table, as though he’s ready for battle to break out at any moment. Despite lacking the fancy clothing of his contemporaries though, the other nobles present are giving him a wide berth of space. Whether out of respect or fear though is debatable. With a knot in your stomach, you approach the table. The man turns his attention away from his partner, a beautiful looking courtesan, to regard you.

“Well, well, well. If it isn’t little old Blair.” The man says, giving you a smile. “Still haven’t hit that growth spurt?”

>You bow. “Lord Rex. A pleasure to see you.”

Rex d’Rusalka. The only child and heir of Count Charles d’Rusalka, and the man you’re expected to serve as a knight one day. To many in the Empire, he’s known as the “Sky Shadow.” A disgustingly strong Wyvern Lord who distinguished himself greatly during the Dagda-Brigid War. It’s said that he would descend from the skies on a wyvern twice as large as normal, delivering death upon those unlucky enough to be caught in his beast’s shadow. Rex is widely regarded as one of the strongest warriors in the Empire, a feat made even more impressive by the fact that he doesn’t possess a crest.

To you though, he’s…

“Winona, this is the girl I was telling you about, Blair.” Rex says to the woman he’s with. “I know she may not look like much, but she’s my father’s ward, and a very nice girl as well.”

You sigh. To you, he’s a relentless tease, often goading and poking fun at you.

“Don’t be rude, darling.” Winona chastises. She turns towards you, bowing her head and smiling. “A pleasure to meet you, Blair. My lord has spoken highly of you.”

>You doubt that but know better than to contest it. “That warms my heart to hear. I had thought you were away, my lord?”

Rex takes a deep drink from a tankard, one of several you notice on the table, though he doesn’t appear lost in his cups at all. “I returned from Almyra but a few days ago. A truly fascinating country, I enjoyed my time there immensely. Strength is the only thing that matters once you cross those borders. Aye, a fine land.”

“Almyra?” Asks Dorothea. “That’s a rather…unique… place to vacation.” Her reaction is natural. Almyra is known for crossing the border in Leicester to raid villages and terrorize the countryside. Most in Fodlan regard the people there as savages.

“Vacation?” Replies Rex, giving off a chortle. “I suppose you could call it that. In reality, I went there to find good sport. The Almyrans may be savages, but they at least recognize the beauty of combat. My men and I slew many of them, including one of their vaunted Four Warlords. That’s where I won this.” Rex grabs the spear by the tableside. The weapon is none like any you’ve ever seen, save maybe the Lance of Ruin.

“It’s one of their sacred treasures. Some of them objected to me taking it, but well, it’s not as if there was much they could do to stop me.”

>You think to yourself that Rex has more in common with those Almyrans than any of the nobles in this room, some of whom are eyeing the corner you’re in with great interest. “So then, what brings you to Garreg Mach?”

“What do you think? I came to watch the show this month, of course!”

>“Are you to…evaluate my performance?”

Rex laughs, taking another deep sip of his drink. “Don’t flatter yourself. I’m more so here to observe the future prey.”

>“Prey?”

“Nothing you need concern yourself with yet. Though now that you mention it, I believe an evaluation of your performance out there may be in order. Just to see if the old man is wasting his money here or not.”

>That knot in your stomach acts up again. “What did you have in mind?”

“Nothing dramatic. All I want is for you to get through the battle without being rendered unconscious or surrendering. Of course, that would mean that the Black Eagles would also have to win, as well. Though I hear from some of the degenerate gamblers here that you’re the favorites this year.”

>You nod. “Simple enough. I’ll see to it.”

“Simple enough?” Rex says, amusement plain on his face. “You’re saying that, even with both enemy teams being stacked with Crest bearers?” Rex begins laughing, first softly, then louder, until eventually it erupts in a roar. Many of the nobles in the room are now openly staring, until Rex stops, forcing them all to turn back to their drinks.

“That’s a far cry from the little brat that I remember. You’re grown bold! Perhaps there’s some hope for you yet, Bold Blair. Very well, I look forward to watching that performance of yours. If you manage to surprise me, I’ll have a little reward for you.”

You bow. “I won’t let you down, my lord. If you’ll excuse me, I must go and prepare.”

You and Dorothea leave the inn, a trail of eyes behind you.

Dorothea starts. “Wow, that adoptive brother of yours is kind of an…”

>“Asshole? Yes, though I don’t believe he holds any ill will. Rex holds very few interests outside of fighting, drinking, and of course, women. That being said, other than his little jabs meant to provoke me, he’s never treated me maliciously since coming to his home.”

In truth, part of you looks up to Rex, almost as an older brother. You’ve often thought of becoming as strong as he is one day. Strong enough to command that same level of respect. Strong enough to protect those close to you. You had no intention of getting knocked out during the upcoming battle anyway, so this should be simple.

I wanna keep the steel lance+, we're not going to find something like it easily again and it'll be useful if we're ever in a situation where we need to subdue and not kill. Plus Blair should have a backup weapon on hand incase her and the killer lance are ever seperated.

I wonder if Dorothea's presence changed anything about the meeting. Oh well! No way to know now.
>>B) Select something to sell. (Iron sword 200g, Steel Lance+ 350g)

Honestly I'm more interested in Blair buying a Silver Lance than the Killer Lance. If anons are worried about Blair's attack speed, then the Silver Lance is 2 Wt lower than the Killer Lance and Steel Lance+ (9 vs 11), which translates to 2 more AtkSpd. It has 4 more Mt than the Killer Lance (13 to 9) and two more than the Steel Lance+.

Compared to the Killer Lance, it's about equal damage. (A very rough calculation puts the Killer Lance at 9+9+9+27 or 54 'damage', at 13.5 per attack, and the Silver Lance, of course, is 13 per attack. However, this doesn't take into account Defense whatsoever. Against opponents with more than 9 Defense, I think, the Killer Lance suffers and the damage calculation skews in favor of the Silver Lance again.)

But the Silver Lance is both lower variance, which is good for making plans, and faster; as the Attack Speed anon said, it therefore has benefits both offensively and defensively. (It also has 5 percent more accuracy, which is a tiny benefit, but important.)

The Killer Lance does benefit more from forging than the Silver Lance, since they both gain 1 Mt and the Killer Lance gains 10 more crit chance. But that's very small, and also very far away. I don't even know if we have the option to order our weapons forged ourselves.

I know the Killer Lance has been slightly hyped up but I think that the Silver Lance is a better choice. Plus it has the option of being obtainable right here, right now, on the eve of an important moment in Blair's life. I wouldn't want to miss out on Rex's reward because Blair is using inferior weaponry - she needs every advantage she can get, especially if Crest-bearer Ingrid is going to hunt her down.

Interesting analysis, you managed to convince me! I'm supporting this vote

What actually is so special about the Killer and Silver Lance?

It seems like Steel weaponry is just better than Iron weaponry, except slightly heavier, but is Silver equivalent to the ‘next step’ and KIller some kind of side grade?

(And are Shields affected by the whole equipment weight reduction that popped up earlier? The text makes them seem axiomatic.)
>>
But muh steel lance+
>>
>>5019966
Silver is the next weapon grade after steel. Killer weapons deal decent damage, but their true utility lies in the fact that their crit rate is a lot higher. A crit deals 3 times the damage of a normal attack, making killer weapons quite powerful.
>>
>>5019966
the damage that a unit does in Fire Emblem is a function of that unit's strength, their weapon's might, and the enemy's defense (or resistance for magic). damage output also is affected by hit rates, crits, and attack speed, all of which are affected by the weapon's values for hit rate, crit rate, and weight (higher weight means lower attack speed). high strength allows a unit to ignore some of the weapon's weight.
crits are basically pure luck except in the case that someone has a killer or similar weapon or specific classes/abilities that provide bonus critrate. for example, petra crit blair once in a training spar because she has a personal ability that increases her crit rate sometimes. a crit is usually a victory, unless you're already too weak to penetrate the enemy's defense, since it triples the damage after the defense is subtracted from Mt+Str.
An Iron Lance has like 6 Might and 6 weight. a steel lance has 9 might and 11 weight. a silver lance has 13 Might and 9 weight. strictly speaking, these weapons aren't completely 'better' than the last, since they have higher weight and are more expensive and in the games have limited uses. the difference in weight makes a large difference in Attack Speed, as an anon mentioned earlier.
but usually iron weapons are usually used only early game, because units don't have high strengths and enemies don't have high defense values. eventually units have enough strength to use steel or you have enough money to give people silver weapons. by that point you need to have higher might in order to kill enemies efficiently, since HP pools and defense stats grow and the iron lance no longer gives enough Might.
Blair isn't in a class that interacts with crit in any way, and she doesn't plan to be. she's going into a set of classes that depend on their dodge chance and mobility for safety, and their speed for damage. with a killer lance she would crit roughly 1 in 4 attacks.
>>5019995
it's essentially completely superceded by the silver lance anon. it's a nice momento of sylvain in some ways but Blair isn't really all that sentimental anyway I don't think, especially if she can get a tangible advantage and reward for being practical.
>>
>>5019306
>>5019812
It is as you say, the Silver Lance has more consistency in it's damage output over the Killer Lance, but the Killer Lance has a higher potential DPS output with the Random Crit. Our DEX isn't great though and it might only serve to negate enemy LCK at best, putting us at the base value of 25% Crit Chance against most enemies, 35% if we reforge it to a Killer Lance+. Again, not great, but if we can manage high enough SPD (either by growth or through Heavy Armor) attacking twice a turn with a 35% Crit weapon is a mighty fine prospect, even if it is less consistent damage output.

In the end I'll have to back consistency over RNG, but depending on our growth we could still aim for the Killer Lance later.

>(And are Shields affected by the whole equipment weight reduction that popped up earlier? The text makes them seem axiomatic.)
Yes, Shields factor in to Attack Speed calculations. However if I am not mistaken, their weight is also reduced by STR and the bonus from Heavy Armor C. Shields are usually light enough that you can reduce their weight to 0, making them just free stats in exchange for money.

You exchange your Iron Sword, along with the modified Steel Lance you received from Sylvain, to the local blacksmith. With the added addition of some of your own gold, you’re able to purchase a stunningly crafted Silver Lance from the shop. The weapon is much lighter than your previous lance but boasts a sharpness unlike any other blade or spear you’ve previously held. You grip the weapon tight, getting a few practice thrusts to familiarize yourself with it.

>Silver Lance Obtained! (300g Current)

Prior to the big day, you meet with the junior officers to go over strategy one last time. In front of a chalkboard detailing an outline of the battlefield, are the Professor, Edelgard and Hubert.

“The Black Eagles will begin on this hill behind this river, overlooking the battlefield.” The Professor starts. “The Blue Lions will start on our right side, being able to utilize these walls for cover, while the Golden Deer will have the forest on the left.”

“In the middle of the field lies a raised platform, containing an unmanned Ballista.” Hubert continues. “For obvious purposes, we’ll want to either seize control of this platform, or at the very least, render it unusable.”

“It’s expected that the bulk of the fighting will take place near the platform, as all three sides vie for control.” Edelgard takes over. “Though it pains me to say it, we’re at a disadvantage in a full-on brawl with the Blue Lions’ knights. That’s not to account for the Golden Deer’s archers, who will likely try and pick us apart from afar. Both sides are eager to see us taken out early.”

The Professor nods. “We can’t afford to have that Ballista on us but getting engaged in a battle on both sides is too risky. Thus, as Hubert said, we’ll be rendering that platform useless. When the battle begins, we’ll move forward, using our superior magical offense to raze the top of that platform. Once that’s done, we’ll sally back behind the river.”

Hubert takes over again. “With our mages using the river as cover, we’ll be able to hold the chokepoint here, cutting down any stragglers from the Lions or Deer that try to pursue. I suspect that the Lions will emerge victorious over the Deer during their skirmish near the platform. Even with the cover of the river though, holding Dmitri’s array of knights, mounted units and Crest bearers back will prove to be extremely difficult for us.”
>>
>>5022362
“Fortunately, with the ballista inoperable, we’ll have greater maneuverability of our flying units, particularly if we have them avoid Claude and the rest of his archers on the Deer.” Edelgard continues. “Once that machine is rendered inoperable, Blair will lead her units through the far right side, and cut down and around to the Blue Lions backline. From there, our flying calvary, with their speed and heightened resistance, will cut down their mages and healers. Doing so should allow us to push back the Blue Lion front and make our way towards their control point. Afterwards, it’s just a simple matter of mopping up the battlefield.”

>Your heart sinks at hearing that you’ll probably have to strike down Mercedes and Annette, but rules are rules. Still though, something about this plan is bothering you. You raise your hand. “According to our intel, the Blue Lions have a larger contingent of Pegasus Knights than we do. If they see us heading towards their backline, they’re most likely to intercept before we can do any real harm.”

Professor Byleth nods. “Excellent deduction, Blair. And one we’ve thought of ourselves. The Lions’ Pegasus Knights are led by Ingrid Galatea. Beyond likely being the best Pegasus Knight in the Academy, she also bears a Crest. Her presence alone can turn the tide of battle single-handedly. That’s why, I’m hoping she takes the bait and does go after you.”

The Professor points to a spot on the top right-hand side of the board, where some green is colored in. “On the right-hand side of this river lie a small patch of trees. Placed here, in hiding, will be Bernadetta, along with a small unit of our best archers. Should Ingrid give your group pursuit upon spotting your movement, you’re to lead her back here. If they fall for the trap, Bernadetta and her group can lay waste to their superior air calvary, and you’ll be free to carry on your mission unmolested.”

“This option presents one problem.” Hubert takes over. “This section where Bernadetta will be laying her ambush contains an opening large enough for a contingent of Blue Lion soldiers to break through to the other side of the river. Once they see us pull behind the river, it’s possible that they’ll send a group to flank around us from that side. If that happens, Bernadetta will have to move, and our ambush plan falls through. As such, you’ll likely have a limited window available to bait Ingrid Galatea.”

>“That sounds like it may pose some difficulty. What happens if she doesn’t take the bait?”

Hubert smiles a devilish grin. “You’re a smart girl, Blair. I’m sure you’ll figure it out.”

>Easier said than done. You think back to your encounter with Ingrid last week. You were able to get somewhat of a glimpse at her personality. Perhaps there’s some way you can use that against her?

After the meeting is concluded, you’re able to get a full glimpse at the team you’ll be working with. In total, you’ll have command of six Pegasus Knights, and six Wyvern Knights. You notice that you’ve worked with one of these cadets before, and you feel a familiar sense of dread in your stomach.

“Long time no see, Blair!” Derrek says. “I’ve missed working with you in Hubert’s unit, but from my understanding, you’ve been a bit busy chumming it up with the Blue Lions. Think you’ll be able to fight them tomorrow? Or should I take over?”

This boy is still as much of a bastard as you remember. He pulled the same stunt of trying to antagonize you right before you went on your first mission to Zanado, only now he’s doing it in front of cadets you’re meant to lead.

Seems a solid enough plan. Perhaps Claude will have another layer of plan that anticipates this type of response, but Dimitri at least is fairly simple in his applications. Claude isn't our wing of the fight to deal with though. It would be quite silly to send us after the Golden Deer without dismounting, and if we do that then we're just an understrength squad of infantry.
Blair's definitely going to need to taunt Ingrid on a personal level in the upcoming chapter.
the Blue Lions' scouts (aka Ashe) are likely to be the ones who force Bernadette to move, I also bet. knights like Sylvain will be needed on the front lines and out-manuevering the Golden Deer line.
>>A): Write-in a response.
'>Antagonize him over the fact that we got chosen to lead and he didn't. He should have worked harder.
I'm quite tempted. something like "I was busy learning to lead instead of playing". but something like:
>I'm the one who's been briefed on Her Majesty's order of battle. Unless you have a relationship with Ingrid Galatea, you wouldn't be able to execute it.
sounds more juicy. emphasizes Blair's position of authority, her knowledge, and the fact that her dealings with the Blue Lions are part of what gives her the ability to be where she is. it also asserts that his questioning is silly.
Blair has to make some kind of response: Derrek has to be put into his place as a soldier somehow but Blair has already tried both default responses. she ignored that mage-noble in Chapter 1 and he ran off and almost threw the battle, and brute harshness didn't work at all when Blair was dealing with Sylvain

I like this write in. Derrick can can it- this is a faux military squad.

(To be entirely honest, I kind of don’t want to win. Even with the reward, the idea of trampling the Blue Lions so the Black Eagles can win where the former has been much kinder to us than the latter leaves a poor taste in my mouth.

Such is life though.)

If Blair manages to defeat at least 2 named canon characters in this coming battle I'll be satisfied, extra points if it's Felix, Ashe or Dmitri.
Felix because beating him in actual combat would be so good, Ashe because overcoming the archery weakness and beating him still would be rad, also there's the whole lovers battling in war aspect that I like, and I don't want to pass up a chance to dominate Ashe, and finally Dmitri because he's the boss unit and would be fucking radical to beat.

Imagine if all this planning goes to naught because Claude and Dmitri have arranged an alliance until the Black Eagle class is curb stomped, as the greatest threat.

As much as it’d make sense, though, I doubt that’ll happen as it would make victory near impossible.. unless the actual test is just to see whether we can survive until the battle’s done.

Last time Derrek tried pushing you around, you were able to fluster him by simply ignoring the fool. You see no reason to deviate from this line of thinking. You walk past him to address the cadets under your command.

>“My name is Blair d’Rusalka, and I’ll be serving as your Officer during the Battle of the Eagle and Lion. I look forward to working with you all.”

“Hey- wait!” Derrek starts to protest but is interrupted by a Pegasus Knight stepping out of line to address you.

“My name is Kate DiCamillo.” The girl states. “I’ve served as a Pegasus Knight with some of these girls previously. I look forward to working under you.” She bows, all business-like.

“Are you people okay with this?! She’s a commoner!” Derrek barks.

Kate faces the green-haired boy. “Blair was chosen as our officer by Lady Edelgard and the Professor.” The girl states plainly. “Should you choose not to accept her command, you’ll be disobeying orders. Mock battle or not, disobedience is a serious offense.” You catch the hint of a veiled threat at the end of Kate’s words.

The girl doesn’t seem to take any issue with your command, nor do any of the other Pegasus or Wyvern Knights behind her, none of whom stir at Derrek’s words.

>“Thank you, Kate.” You face towards Derrek. “I take it your tantrum is settled?”

Derrek’s face is beat red as he approaches you, fury in his eyes. “Who do you think you’re speaking to you little-“ Before he can get any closer to you, you catch a flash at the corner of your eyes as the tip of Kate’s spear swipes to the boy’s next, causing him to immediately halt his advance.

“Disobedience will not be tolerated.” Kate says, eyeing the boy. Two of the Wyvern Knights present decide to get in the middle before things get any uglier, restraining Derrek and bringing him back in line.

“Commander, please continue.” Kate says, sheathing her spear and getting back in line.

You groan internally at the great start you’re off to, before explaining the strategy to your subordinates. Everyone seems onboard with the plan, though you notice that a few students bristle at the idea of getting into a fight with Ingrid. Clearly the girl’s reputation precedes her. By the end of your briefing, everyone nods in agreement, and Derrek doesn’t seem eager to protest any further, walking away at the meeting’s conclusion with a snarl.

The day of the Battle of the Eagle and Lion is finally here. You and Dorothea wake up early that morning, preparing your gear and double checking your inventory, before heading out. Gronder Field, where the battle will take place, is but a short distance away from the monastery. The field is massive, and as you arrive, you find that the spectator stands are packed with onlookers. Members of the Knights of Seiros, the clergy of Garreg Mach, and the visiting nobles from all over Fodlan are packed into the stands, eagerly anticipating the battle’s start.

Already, cadets from each house are taking their positions. You and your units are grounded still, not wanting to give away your location to the enemy just yet. From where you and your units are situated, you can see a few of the Blue Lions and Golden Deer in the distance, but it’s impossible to make out their exact locations and numbers due to the terrain.

Behind you, Kate is commanding a squad of Pegasus Knights, while Derrek commands the Wyvern Knights. The boy seems to be deferring to your commands after suffering some much-needed humiliation.

As you wait for the signal, you look back to your units. Except for Kate and Derrek, all of them look pretty nervous. Perhaps there’s something you can say to them as you wait for Seteth to give the signal? You are their commanding officer, after all.

During the battle, you'll have the option to control their movements and send them to complete various objectives, as opposed to named characters like Leopold or Corrine currently acting on their own in the narrative.

5/5 refers to the number of Pegasus Knights/Wyvern Knights in the squad currently "alive". (Alive being a bad phrase to use here, as this is a mock battle.)

This may become clearer when the battle starts, but for example, you'll vote on where to send your units on the grid, as well as some other narrative options that will arise.

>You decide to keep things brief, but simple. “We’re the Black Eagles, these are OUR skies! Let’s show them we mean business!”

You get a rousing cheer from most of the cadets behind you, seemingly snapping them out of whatever small funk they may have been in.

“Don’t order me to do anything stupid, you hear?” Derrek says.

“Commander Blair, we have your back.” Kate states.

From afar, you can make out the figure of Seneschal Seteth, along with the Archbishop Rhea, overseeing the battle. Next to them, a soldier raises a flag, followed by loud blaring of a horn. That’s the signal, The Battle of the Eagle and Lion has officially begun!

With a loud roar, all three sides charge in, heading straight for the middle of the battlefield, where the raised platform lies. You can see the Professor raise her sword above her head as Black Eagle students charge forward. They keep moving until, abruptly, they stop, and a handful of mages shuffle towards the front of the group. In a coordinated effort, they conjure a large firestorm that engulfs the top of the raised platform before any of the other houses can get there. Even from this distance, you can see the ballista explode into wooden chunks, sending shrapnel flying everywhere. It looks like the plan went off with a hitch, and the Eagles are already retreating behind the river.

>“That’s our signal!” You yell. “Get in the skies and move out!” You spur Beathan forward, gaining momentum, as you take flight. Behind you, your units follow.

Once in the air, you’re able to get a much clearer view of the entire battlefield. In response to the ballista being destroyed, the main bulk of both enemy houses are now moving forward towards the river, where they’ll likely get tangled fighting each other. Already you can see that a vanguard of Golden Deer cadets are in combat with a group of Blue Lion cadets that stayed behind to defend their control point in the south. Among them you notice Ashe, allowing you a sigh of relief that you won’t have to worry about the boy shooting you down.

Behind the Blue Lions infantry currently marching towards the river, you spot their backline, just a few steps behind. From the looks of it, they comprise of two mage units and a group of healers. Mercedes and Annette.

And in front of you, directly ahead, lies your biggest obstacle. Ingrid Galatea is in the sky, alongside what you make out to be at least 10 other Pegasus Knights and 5 Wyvern Knights. While she’s taken flight, she doesn’t seem to be in a rush to go anywhere. Instead, it looks like she’s eyeing you to see what move you make, so that she can then respond to it.

Ingrid is waiting for us to make the first move, if we threaten the Blue Lions backline she'll have to respond to block our path. That said we can't just make a quick poke and then withdraw directly the Bernadetta, I doubt Ingrid would take such obvious bait. Most likely we'll have to engage Ingrid and her units and take some casualties, and then feign a rout towards Bernadetta. If we're convincing enough she'll push after us to finish us off without considering it a trap.

Have Derek remain behind with the other Wyvern knights to act as lookouts/cover our backs so we can disengage the mages when/if Ingrid comes charging with the blue lion fliers.

Harassing their backline will force them into action wether they want to or not. We do need to make sure we don't get outflanked however. I'm a little relunctant to trust Derek, but pegasus knights tend to have higher resistance against magic while the axe wielding wyvern knights counter the lance wielding pegasus knights following Ingrid. Just gotta hope he doesn't backstab us or tries to rush ahead for glory.

Something to take note of is that one of Ingrid's wings of Pegasi are equipped with swords, rather than lances, and so will beat out Derek and his crew if Blair lets that engagement happen. Notably, they're already lined up. Derek should switch sides so that he's facing the lance-wielding Pegasi.
Poor Kate is going to get clobbered no matter where she goes though, Ingrid has her counter-unit sitting in the middle as a reserve
>>5027762
I think it's kind of foolish to go from 2 wings against 3 to 1 wing against 3.
Blair is definitely the underdog

>B): Send one or more of your units to complete an objective (Write-in)
>Switch Derek to your other side; otherwise they move alongside
>A): Stick to the plan! Order all your units to crash into the Blue Lions backline as soon as their infantry gets tangled into fighting
I'm okay with the plan, though. Waiting too much will likely make it so Blair can't trap Ingrid, even if waiting is a 'kind of victory' for the Black Eagles (due to Blair not being a true match for Ingrid's ability to turn the battle line), and if Ingrid doesn't get trapped then she probably clears Blair out of the sky, which makes the side objectives both impossible.
Ingrid's personality is tied up in protecting people. She would love nothing more than the chance to save people from the dastardly backstabbing Blair, so I think she'll wait as long as Blair does. Even if it seems like a kind of obvious bait to us, I think it's well suited to catch her, and if she doesn't respond then she loses her backline and her knight-creds (in her own mind). Worst come to worst Blair can insult Ingrid's honor or something

>E): Maneuver so we are in range to engage the Blue Lion Backline, but do not attack yet. We don't want to be caught between Ingrid and the Blue Lion mages if we can avoid it.
>A): Have your units move with you

If Ingrid is waiting for you to make a move first, you’re all too happy to oblige.

“All units! Follow me!” You steer Beathan to your left to follow the main force of Blue Lions, who are already on the move and set to engage with the Golden Deer. You’re not intimately familiar with the Blue Lions’ house leader and heir to the Kingdom of Faergus, Dimitri Blaiddyd, but so far you don’t like what you see. While it’s somewhat admirable that the boy leads from the front, he’s overextended his knights at the cost of leaving his backline trailing behind. From your present location, it would be a simple matter to pick off those mages in no-time, completely decimating their support forces.

And yet…

>“Do not engage those mages!”

“What?! Why?!” Derrek asks, frustration evident in his voice.

You’re able to spot that one of the Blue Lions Squadrons is hanging behind, not fully committing with the rest of the army. The boy leading this squadron is a frustratingly large youth with dark skin and clad in heavy armor. From what you’ve heard, his name is Dedue, and beyond being Dimitri’s right-hand man, you’ve heard tell that he’s an impenetrable wall of iron.

>“So, they’re not as dumb as they seem.” You ignore Derrek’s whining. “They want to lure us to their back line to bog us down with that Armor Unit. Ingrid will then flank us, while Annette grounds us with her wind magic.”

Sure enough, you find that Ingrid is already seeking to close in on you, and her units are on route to your position.

>“We’ll need to take out those enemy fliers before we can get to work on those mages, and we’ll need to do it fast.”

From what you can see, Ingrid has split up her formation into two wings. One wing consists of herself, and a squadron of Sword Pegasus Knights. The other wing is further to the left and consists of 5 Pegasus Knights and 5 Wyvern Knights. The left wing worries you a bit. While their distance from Ingrid makes it seem as though they could be trying to set up for a flank on you, it could very well also mean that they intend to circle around your units and over the river. While you have no doubt Bernadetta could eliminate them with ease, doing so would alert Ingrid to the trap in question, and you’d be forced to take her out the more traditional way.

No time to dwell on a decision for much longer, the enemy will be on you soon.

>A): Make a feint and move behind the river in hopes the enemy will pursue
>B): Making a feint now is too risky and Ingrid may catch on to your plan. Move forward and engage the enemy fliers in a light skirmish first

Doing nothing means they'll spring their trap, going over the river will just cause them to rout the deer forces ahead first while they're still fresh and tackling the fliers first just opens us to flanking attacks by Dedue and the mages while we're bogged down by them.

Mages are squishy anyway so we can probably take a few out even in a light skirmish, and if we bring our units and look like a big enough threat then yeah Ingrid will be forced to respond to honorably protect her friends.

By your estimation, you have just a few moments to pick at the Blue Lion mages before Ingrid and friends fall upon you. You’ll have to make this a hit and run though, as if you stay bogged down in combat for longer than a moment, you risk waging a battle on two sides; one you’re unlikely to win.

>“All units! Skirmish with the enemy mages! On my lead!”

The time for acting is now. Spurring Beathan, you descend at full speed towards the line of mages behind you, targeting the unit that Mercedes is leading. Some of them seem to notice you by the shadows your mounts cast, but there’s little they can do to retaliate.

Though you loathe to admit it, your target here is Mercedes herself. She’s the best healer the Blue Lions have and taking her out of the equation early will provide your classmates a great boon. Mercedes looks up at you as you approach, and while she instinctively puts up her hands as if to stop you, you both know that there’s nothing she can do here.

Wielding your brand-new Silver Lance, you let out a roar and impale your target dead on.

Your target being the ground right next to Mercedes. This is a Mock Battle, after all.

“O-oh! Blair…I didn’t expect you to be the one to take me out.” Mercedes says blushing.

Mercedes then falls dramatically to the ground, pretending to play dead. You notice that some of the other cadets in her unit have done the same thing, falling prey to Derrek and his Wyvern Knights. In one fell swoop you managed to take out half of Mercedes’ Unit!

“You’ll pay for that, Blair!” The familiar voice of Annette calls out, and you catch the glimmer of her Crest activating. “Excalibur!”

That’s not good! Excalibur is Wind magic specifically designed to ground flying units, and Annette has clearly been hitting the books if she can use that spell already!

Luckily you were already prepared to flee after your initial strike, and Beathan pulls forward and up into the sky just as the whirling tornado starts picking up behind you. Unfortunately, two of your Wyvern Knights and one Pegasus Knight are caught up in the attack and grounded, rendering them out of the fight.

As you look behind you, you can survey that Kate and her squadron of Pegasus Knights managed to wipe out the smaller squad of Blue Lion mages. Dedue and his Armor Knights have moved in place to defend Annette and the remaining mages, but he’ll have little to do now that you’re back in the sky. Not a bad trade off, you think.

“Blair d’Rusalka! I challenge you!”

Your head swivels to find Ingrid, staring across at you, leading her squadron of flying units. It appears she was able to close the gap on you far quicker than expected.

“Call off your soldiers and let’s settle this, one on one!”

She can’t seriously be challenging you to a one-on-one duel, can she?! And you don’t certainly intend to accept, right?!

Ingrid has speed 22, 28 when she initates attacks. We have speed 17. Silver Lance has 9 weight and 13 Might, Steel Lance+ has 11 weight and 11 Might. When we engage, our Attack Speed is 8, Ingrid's is 11. When Ingrid attacks, her Attack Speed is 17, ours is still 8.

We're equal on Strength and Defense, but our weapon gives us a +2 Might over Ingrid. Our damage per turn is (13+17) - 13 = 17. Ingrids damage when we attack is (11+17) - 13 = 11, her damage when she initates attacks are 11x2 = 22.

We attack Ingrid we 'fucking die' so to speak, barring Ingrid missing three attacks in a row. Highly improbable. There is no scenario where we beat Ingrid when the stat disparity is this massive. Attacking her with our whole force is also going to be a guaranteed loss, we were already outnumbered before but now our cadet units are damaged and will probably lose every skirmish we send them in to since we lack sword users to counter their axes while they have a full compliment of each weapon type to counter ours.

Remember what QM said in the first thread: WE CAN'T BE EXPECTED TO FIGHT CREST USERS AND COME OUT ON TOP.

Hopefully Ingrid will follow after to show this cowardly scum Blair how a true honorable Knight fights.

Getting her over the trap is the only option, but it's also important to give reason for us to flee towards it. Having half your command 'rebel' against you is sufficient motivation to abandon any notion of fighting. Hopefully Derrek is smart enough to hit the enemy in the flank when the trap is sprung.

You’re not confident that you could take down Ingrid in a one-on-one scenario, and you’re not about to risk the “lives” of your men, as well as potentially throwing the Black Eagles’ chance at victory away to find out. You spare a quick glance at the units behind you before backing off and heading towards the location where Bernadetta is lying in wait.

“Where do you think you’re going?!” Ingrid yells, giving the signal to her troops to pursue. All four wings of Blue Lions fliers are now in pursuit and heading towards the designated location.

“Hah! And here I thought you’d be brave enough to face me yourself!” Ingrid calls out.

A knot lurches in your stomach as you think about what you’re about to do. While you personally don’t like the idea, you can’t deny that it’s likely tactically sound. And if Ingrid is truly your superior as far as combat is concerned, perhaps it’s time you show the world that your tactics and strategy far surpass her own.

>“I don’t have any time to waste on weaklings such as yourself. Get lost, Ingrid.” You taunt back, yelling loud enough to hear this high up.

You glance back at Ingrid, making sure to put on your best look of disdain. The girl is fuming, and she’s altered her course to head straight in your direction, moving far ahead of the Pegasus knights behind her. The blue light surrounding the girl signal that she’s ready to activate her Crest. From your side, you can hear Derrek letting out a roar of laughter, which probably doesn’t help the girl’s case as far as keeping it cool is concerned. No matter though, she’s far too deep in, and it’s far too late for her to turn back now.

Your eye catches movement from below as Bernadetta and a squad composed of nine other archers emerge from the bushes, pointing their bows upward and letting loose a volley. Ingrid tries to avert course, but it’s too late, and the arrows find their mark. While the tips of the arrows are all dulled and blunted, bouncing off her and her steed’s armor, it’s plain as day what would have occurred in a real battle. With a scowl that could melt ice, Ingrid beckons her mount to land on the ground, never taking her eyes off you the entire time.

From behind Ingrid, the Sword wielding Pegasus Knights are also caught up in the volley and are also forced to ground. The Blue Lion Wyverns and Lance wielding Pegasus Knights, being just out of reach, are able to pull back upon seeing the fate that befell their comrades.

“Hahaha, I can’t believe that dunce actually fell for that!!” Derrek taunts, loud enough that you’re sure Ingrid probably heard him.

You ignore the boy, as per usual. While you do feel somewhat bad about how everything just played out, you can’t help but feel some pride at being able to outmaneuver the supposed best Pegasus Knight at Garreg Mach.

Best course of action is probably to make a beeline for the Blue Lions capture point after we knock down their fliers. Best EXP gain though is probably to ram the Backline again, though it could lead to us getting knocked out of the fight if we're not careful.

Scanning the battlefield from on-high, you spot that the Golden Deer are attempting to flank the Black Eagles on the left side. While part of you wants to fly over and crash into them, you don’t want to give up this momentum that you’ve gained with Ingrid’s defeat. You’ll have to leave your comrades to their own devices. You’re not omnipresent, after all. Besides, from what you can tell, the Black Eagles have suffered few if any casualties after following the plan Hubert and the Professor came up with. They should be able to deal with the Deer just fine. For now, let’s put the finishing touches on the Blue Lions flying calvary.

>“Don’t let those wings escape! Derrek, have your men take the wing on the left! Kate, you and your girls take the wing on the right!”

Eliminating Ingrid and her wing was certainly a boon, but from the looks of things, you still have an even fight on your hands. 10 of yours versus 10 of theirs, and just because they’re in rout doesn’t mean they won’t still be trouble. Additionally, both of your weapon types are matching, so this is going to come down to individual skill and unit cohesion more than anything else.

You and your units give chase over the first wall in front of you. On cue, the remaining Blue Lions flyers do a 180 and come back charging towards you. It looks like they intend to fight head on and were just attempting to create some distance between themselves and Bernadetta.

You join Derrek’s squad to round them out to an even five against their opponents, Blue Lion Wyvern Knights who are using axes. You’ve never faced an opponent in aerial combat before, but you’re about to learn quick. Swapping to your Iron Sword+, you charge in alongside Derrek and his men.

A Wyvern Knight flies in your direction, the beast snarling at you. While you’re aware wyverns generally have more strength than their pegasus counterparts, pegasi are much faster. As the boy gets closer, it’s a simple matter for you to swivel to the side and lash out with your sword, catching the boy in the front of his breastplate, followed by a slash to the back as you move passed him. Admitting defeat, he flies towards the ground, getting ready to dismount.
>20xp gained! (20/100)

Another Wyvern Knight comes at you. This one has identified you as the leader of the pack here and seeks to take you out. He brings his axe down, which you block with your sword just in time. The two of you stay locked together like this in the sky for a few moments, with you gritting your teeth attempting to push the much larger opponent away. Fortunately, one of your own Wyvern Knights comes and bonks this one on the head, sending the Blue Lion crashing to the ground.

Surveying the battlefield, Derrek has come out of his battle victorious, though your other two Wyvern Knights have unfortunately found themselves grounded. Kate’s Squad seems to have also been victorious, though they’re now missing three Pegasus Knights, bringing your total flying power to five units.

You don’t have much confidence in winning an entanglement with the likes of Dedue and Annette in your current state, but there’s a much more attractive prize lying in front of you.

Guarding the Blue Lions control point is the singular form of Professor Hanneman. It only makes sense he’s participating in the battle, given that Professor Byleth is as well. If you can take him down, you could defeat the Blue Lions in one fell swoop.

The only problem, he’s a Professor. He’s bound to be many levels stronger than the cadets you’ve faced thus far. And while you’ve lost sight of Ashe, that doesn’t mean he won’t suddenly reappear.

I don't think tangling with Hanneman is worth it, pretty sure he knows Wind and takes off a third of our health in one hit if he uses it, with Pure Water. Even if I did the math wrong we're not fighting a crazy dark mage trying to escape, so I'm comfortable not rushing the big obvious target. And splitting up seems bad when we're at half strength.

Yeah Hanneman might be too risky to face, also I suggest when we go attack the Blue Lions we avoid the forest area to the rigth of us, if Ashe is around then that's the spot that would help him the best so lets go north first then go to the Blue Lions trough the river.

Hanneman do be the scary right now. As a Level 20 Warlock I expect him to have Black Tomefair, putting him at 28 base MAG. While he won't be able to dual us without activating his crest, we won't be able to dual him either unless he opens with Ragnarok. No spell he knows will kill us outright, but any dual attack will kill us regardless if we use the Pure Water or not.

I don't know the stats of Derrek or Kate, but chances are they're both either within one-shot or two-shot range, especially Derrek who's already wounded. All it would take to drastically change the outcome of this encounter is for either of them to not make it to Hanneman, or for them to miss an attack. Not ideal. Again, don't fight Crest users if it can be avoided. Especially those who are five levels higher than us.

>B): Turn around and assist the Black Eagles against the oncoming Blue Lion assault, attacking their backline.
>A): Have your units follow you
The main force of the Black Eagles are basically untouched, we have the Mage advantage if we are to believe the pre-battle strategy meeting so they should be able to squash Dedue and his infantry, no sweat. We just have to distrupt their backline as both of our frontlines clash and our house should come out victorious. Annette is a bit of an air-head so chances are she won't notice our approach when the fighting gets going. Also her Crest is way less powerful than Hannemans, being more utility focused than damage focused.

We should probably pop the Pure Water before we engage too, since it would increase our survivability against non-crest mages drastically and put a serious dent in the damage Annette can do to us.

>>5034046
Ashe is probably moving north while using the Forests and central hill to cover his advance. He wouldn't abandon his comrades for personal glory, that's not what a Knight would do. As long as we stay west of the hill as we circle back to engage the enemy rear he most likely won't be able to reach us.

I have a sneaky feeling that Ashe is off to capture the GD control point as well, which is why he's roaming away from the rest of the backline. He's good at scouting and that backline is pretty intact and not in urgent need of reinforcements.

Besides Manuela is probably gonna be as difficult to take down as Hannerman considering she's a professor too.

Update coming today. Had to do some impromptu travelling this week.

I really thought you'd all try and attack Hanneman.
>>
>>5036762
I really wanted to but I'm a coward
>>
>>5036762
Had we any growth in our defensive stats it might've been possible, but the prospect of getting clapped for something like 54 damage in a single turn it was a little too scary.

I would suggest we get a shield, but our speed isn't high enough to accomodate one right now. We'd just get blasted even harder due to the loss of speed.

You’re not feeling too confident at your prospects of defeating a Professor, let alone one that is bearing a Crest. While your unit is at less than half your full force, you decide the best course of action may just be to turn around and swing back towards the Blue Lions.

>”Turn around!” You yell, marshalling your forces back north. As you fly towards the river where you initially started, you can plainly see that the battle has erupted into complete chaos. The Golden Deer that were upfront in the initial fight have been routed, and currently, the Blue Lions are trying to push through the chokepoint that the Eagles have set up.

Edelgard herself is plugging the gap, alongside Caspar, making it so that the Blue Lions are all jammed together and unable to move forward. Both appear to be locked in combat with units belonging to Prince Dimitri and Felix. It’s anybody’s guess who may come out on top.

In the back, Annette, who’s squad suffered some casualties thanks to your work at the beginning of the battlefield, is struggling to push back against Hubert and Dorothea, both of whom are at full health.

>“To our left! Focus on their remaining mages!”

You hope to descend on Annette and finish her off, thus opening Hubert and Dorothea to focus on the Blue Lions frontline. And while you can see that Dedue is no longer hanging back, instead opting to try and push forward to support Prince Dimitri, you still have one pesky interruption to deal with.

“You’re not getting through me, Blair!” Sylvain yells, spinning his lance and driving his mount forward, to put himself between you and Annette. While his unit has taken some damage during the battle, they’re still formidable enough to present a challenge.

Alongside Sylvain are six other cavaliers, each moving forward to try and create a buffer between you and Annette. Unfortunately, you won’t have an easy time getting to her without going through these cadets.

One way or the other, it appears you have a fight with Crest users on your hands. Something that you had a feeling would be unavoidable.

ashe and the majority of the golden deer still nowhere to be seen. I really feel like Claude is just hanging back and hopes to rout the winner of the deathball-battle. getting some intel on the GD would be valuable...but it would also mean flying blind into an area most likely swarming with archers. I do feel like IF Blair is going to spend her final units, it should be in knocking the BL out as quickly as possible by yonking Hanneman. otherwise she's most valuable as a threat, or as a source of intel
>>D): Pull back and stall for now. See which way the battle goes and if an opening presents itself
Given that anons have already rejected fighting Hanneman this is our remaining option, in my view
>>
Wyvern Knights have some axes, yes? How feasible would it be to have some hit Sylvain's squad and beeline for the mages on Pegasus?
>>
>>5037334
the other option is to pull back, circle around, dismount, and try to stealth mission our way to the GD checkpoint. but our units aren't trained skirmishers, they're knights, and we'd be asking them to perform a skirmisher's job. they'd probably do it but screw it up somehow

I would offer that right now, you can tell that this is the climax of the battle.

The Deer had their mainline infantry eliminated, their squad that went towards the Blue Lions eliminated, and their ambush squad is tied up behind the river with the Black Eagles. If they have anyone left, it's not much.
>>
>>5037365
To elaborate: Could Derrek even take Sylvain in a duel? He might be the type to go for it and we'd have the spare wyvern on the mages.
>>
>>5037233
We have the numbers advantage. Let's throw the Wyvern Riders at them, along the lance-wielding pegasi knights, in order to surround them. Derrek could lead the fight and get some of the glory, since he's been listening to us so far. In the meantime, we and the rest of the troops could make a rush for Annette's unit and kill them.
>>
>>5037450
how do we have the numbers advantage when there's 7 of them and 5 of us? we're represented as more squares on the map but each square is one person.
>>5037366
>>5037233
well, I'd like Blair to continue to make this victory as easy as possible for the Black Eagles then, I suppose, so that there's as little chance for things to go wrong as we try to clean up as possible
against Sylvain...a Steel Lance will be 10 Mt I think, plus 19 Str, so 29ish raw and 13 Def on Blair so 16 damage to Blair per (30% chance for more, but it only matters if he gets it in his first two hits, so it matters .7*.7=.49 or half the time), and Blair has 13Mt+17Str so 30 against 15Def so 15 damage per so three attacks

Blair has 8 AtkSpd iirc and Sylvain will have 14-(11-(19/5=3))=14-8=6 AtkSpd so they're even, and so I reach the conclusion that 50% of the time Blair loses if she fights Sylvain here. and after that if she wins then she'll be paper and will have to oneshot annette (which is wholly feasible desu since she's wounded too)

better odds than Hanneman, and I assume that with two axes on our side that they're worth at least two of Sylvain's lance-wielding cavaliers, so Blair and Sylvain's units ought to mutually annihilate unless she gets bonuses for having multiple named characters with her (if we go by Felix v Caspar then 2 Swords are worth 3 Axes so this is perhaps too generous to us)

altogether I don't see Blair surviving the battle unless she hangs back, to be honest...but the write-ins don't impress me either. unless we ask derrek to 'kill-steal' us or something

and Rex doesn't seem like the sort to be impressed if Blair hangs back? or maybe he's the sort to admonish Blair that senselessly risking herself is no way to win battles and survive to reach his level. but I doubt that second thing.

maybe this...?

>A): Continue moving forward, engage with Sylvain
>B): Send one or more of them to fulfill an objective (Wyverns gank Sylvain at the outset instead of allowing the fight to be a set of duels)

Derrek will object to being sent to fight a Crest user ahead of Blair, but now is the best time to spend the Wyverns, as opposed to the Pegasi, who will be best used against the mages
>>
>>5037469
no wait Blair has 11 atk spd cause it's 17-(9-17/3)=11 so actually Blair just dunks on Sylvain even if he gets a crest activation
>>
>>5037233
STR: Blair (17) vs Sylvain (19)
DEF: Blair (13) vs Sylvain (15)
SPD: Blair (17) vs Sylvain (14)
Attack Speed: Blair (17-9 = 8+3 from strength = 11) vs Sylvain (14-11 = 3+3 from strength = 6)
Actual Damage Dealt Per turn of Combat: Blair (17+13 = 28-15 = 15x2 = 30) vs Sylvain (19+9 = 28-13 = 15, with a 40% chance to add 5 damage due to crest.)

We actually just outright muder Sylvain on contact, granted we don't miss our first attack on turn 2 and he fails to activate his crest more than once. This is of course counting on no outside interference from Sylvain's unit.

Following the Rock Paper Scissors combat logic, our one Wyvern Knight and Derrek have advantage against the Cavaliers using Lances, and we have Kate and her one Pegasus too. Odds are we can beat this while taking only one additional casualty (The last Pegasus Knight) which hopefully means we are free to ravage Annette and her Mages afterwards. That'll hopefully turn the tide of the Combat and let Edelgard push through the enemy center, giving our house the win.

>A): Continue moving forward, engage with Sylvain
>B): Send one or more of them to fulfill an objective: Engage Sylvain's Escorts while we play bongo with Sylvain's ass

>“Spread out and separate those cavaliers! Leave Sylvain to me!” You yell to your allies.

“Understood.” Kate says.

“If you want to deal with that Crest-bearing fool, by all means!” Replies Derrek.

The remaining four allies that you have left spread out wide, and Sylvain’s cavaliers follow suit. It seems that they’re content to let you and Sylvain have your one-on-one duel.

“I owe you big time, Blair, but if I let you win here, the others will never let me hear the end of it. I hope you understand!”

Descending from the sky as fast as you can, you lash out with your Silver Lance, locking weapons with Sylvain. You’re now grounded as the two of you attempt to push each other back on your steeds. Beathan jumps back, disengaging you from the stalemate the two of you were in, only for you to dash forward once again, weapon outstretched. The two of you begin riding towards each other and you both slash your spears, each of you hitting your mark. (Sylvain -15 HP 20/35) (Blair -15 HP, 20/35).

You grit your teeth through the pain, doing your best to remember your training with Leopold, and turn Beathan around, ready for another joust. As it turns out, you’re much faster than Sylvain. You see the familiar blue flash of the Crest of Gautier, but even that won’t save the boy from your superior speed and rage. Your lance outstretched; you unseat the boy from his steed before his lance can reach you, sending him toppling to the ground. (Sylvain -19 HP, 1/35, KO’d)

>50xp gained! (80/100)

You stop your mount right next to Sylvain, who is currently busy rolling on the floor in pain. Your mind quickly comes back to reality.

>“S-sorry! Maybe I overdid it…”

“I-it’s *cough* ahhhh….fine!”

Turning back to the battle, you find that Derrek and his Wyvern Knight companion were able to dispatch a whopping four of the cavaliers on his own. Kate finished off the remaining two, though unfortunately the other Pegasus Knight under your command is now down for the count. At this point, all of your companions look worse for wear, and you feel as though everyone, including yourself, are now at your utmost limits.

A horn suddenly blares across the battlefield, from the direction of the raised platform where Seneschal Seteth and the Archbishop Rhea have been watching the battlefield, followed by an announcement.

“The Golden Deer’s Control Point has been captured!” Seteth yells, his voice amplified by magic. “All Golden Deer students are eliminated and are to exit the battlefield!”

That must have been the work of Ashe and his units from earlier, you think to yourself. While you’re impressed that the boy and his unit were able to defeat a Professor, you grimly note that his actions have now doomed his team. With the Golden Deer forced to leave the battlefield, the Black Eagles are free to focus their superior numbers entirely on the Blue Lions.

Your prediction holds true, and you see the Blue Lions frontline begin to collapse under the renewed strength of the Eagles.

Annette is pulling back in retreat. She was unable to push through the combined magical might of Dorothea and Hubert, and her entire unit has been wiped out. In fact, the entire Blue Lions frontline is in complete disarray.

It would be a trivial matter to knock Annette out right now. In fact, in her haste to pull back, she doesn’t even seem to have noticed you.

>A): Attempt to eliminate Annette
>B): Fly over Annette to Dimitri and try and take him out
>C): Fly around to Felix and attack him
>D): Support the front line of Edelgard and Caspar against Dedue and the other Blue Lions infantry unit
>E): This battle is virtually over, and you’ve done more than enough as is. Pull back and let the fresher Black Eagle units take over.

>A): Have your units follow you

He's alone, we can circle around him, and we have the weapon advantage. Let's give it a try.

>>
>>5038430
I like your ID, and your idea.
>>
>>5038430
>>5038444
Wait. We could actually 3-way again. Felix and Annette are both alone. Kate striking Felix and us Annette leaves the Wyvern guys who could possibly lay some serious waste on Dimitri after how they fared against the cavaliers. We'd go maximum glory hound with this maneuver, but it could definitely be worth it (if only for more xp when we finish the Dim squad off ourselves next round)
>>
>>5038411
>A): Attempt to eliminate Annette
We should be the one to eliminate her, and I think at this point we can deal with her without harming her like we did with Mercedes
>B): Send one or more of them to fulfill an objective
Kate goes for Felix and the Wyvern bros deal with the Infantry
If this goes well then only Dmitri and Dedue are left who are fighting Edelgarde and Caspar and they should be able to deal the finishing blows to them, if not then we can sweep in to steal the kill.
>>

>there are anons in this thread right now who think we're in a position to fight several Offensive Crest Bearers with our squad of turbo normal cadets after we've been reduced to near combat ineffectiveness

Yeah, no. Can we just let the actual main force of the Black Eagles do something too? We're already going to win even if we just sit back here, I'd rather we don't throw away the reward we're supposed to get from Rex if we survive the whole battle on fighting more Crest Users than we can handle just for glory. Remember, we're not actually a main character, we're a background mook who's getting a little to big for her riding boots.

>A): Attempt to eliminate Annette
>A): Have your units follow you
Bully Annette for that Level Up EXP and then just sit out the rest. If we still get experience for forcing a surrender, just surround her and demand she give up instead of fighting her. If we don't, pop a Vulnerary and the Pure Water so we avoid being one-shot by Excalibur.

Annette doesn’t seem to be paying much attention to her surroundings, and you can hardly blame her. The poor girl has received quite the thrashing since the battle began.

>“Move on ahead and support the others but take care that you don’t overexert yourselves. You’ve all done enough as is. I’ll take care of Annette alone.”

“Are you sure you’ll be fine?” Kate asks.

“Heh, if the girl wants to go for the small fry, then let her. I’ll be taking the Prince’s head myself! Let’s go!”

As your allies fly off, you take flight on Beathan, heading towards Annette. You steer the mount down and land right in front of Annette. In the girl’s haste to retreat, she doesn’t even see you coming, and she runs headfirst into the pegasus, falling back flat on the ground. You respond by pointing your spear at her prone form.

>“Please surrender, I’d rather this not get ugly.”

“Oww…” The girl whines. “You’ve got a real mean streak, Blair. You know that?” Annette puts her hands up, signifying to the officials that she has surrendered.

>You sigh. “Thank you…I think.”

Up ahead, the main battle seems to be winding down. While Dedue is a fearsome, heavily armored foe, he seems to have found himself completely outmatched against the offensive magical power that the Black Eagles are known for. Hubert, Dorothea, or even Martha alone would have been more than a match for the boy from Duscur, let alone all three of them combined and with little fatigue. Dedue’s unit crumples, and from there, Prince Dimitri can do little but find himself engulfed by the tide of Black Eagles that swarm through the river’s opening.

You’ve never seen the Prince fight up close before, but as you observe him refusing to surrender, you note that the boy possesses a terrifying level of strength, amplified even more so by his Crest. You count yourself fortunate to have not had the displeasure of facing him in battle. Foes such as Dimitri and Ingrid seem to be well above your league in terms of raw power and skill. It’s a gap you fear that you may never be able to overcome. At least not physically. Today has proven in your mind that with superior tactical and strategic ability, you have the potential to overcome even foes such as these.

The battle does not take long to wrap up from here. Edelgard leads her forces south towards the Blue Lions control point, with virtually zero resistance standing in her path. You and the remainder of your unit are ordered to hang back by the Black Eagles’ base. Partially to back up the Professor against any Blue Lions stragglers, and partially to rest. You don’t complain. You fought more than most of the Eagles present, and you damn well deserve it. You hear that same horn that blew earlier, and Seteth addresses the battlefield once more.

“The Blue Lions Control Point has been captured! Both the Blue Lions and the Golden Deer have been eliminated! The winner of this year’s Battle of the Eagle and Lion, are the Black Eagles!!”

You feel a sense of relief wash over you with the battle’s conclusion, and you let out a loud roar alongside your comrades, who are all celebrating. Not only did you manage to distinguish yourself during the battle, but you also managed to win your wager with Rex as well!

“I suppose you don’t entirely have rocks for brains after all.” Derrek says. “Still, you certainly were lucky that you had me supporting your unit.”

>“As long as you follow my orders, I care not what you tell yourself.”

“Hah! This was a one-off, commoner. Don’t get used to it.” With that, the boy takes off.

“Captain, please allow me to enlist in your unit moving forward.” Kate says.

>“Huh? Are you sure? Aren’t you an officer yourself?”

Kate nods. “Yes, but I feel as though you and I have much that we can learn together. I care naught for the title, so long as I can become a more efficient soldier working alongside talented individuals.”

You’d be hard-pressed to say no. So far, your unit is still not at full-strength, having been filled with ringers for the most part. You extend your hand out towards Kate, and smile.

>“Very well, then. I look forward to developing together with you, Kate.”

The girl stares at your hand for a moment, before returning your handshake. For the first time since you can remember, you see what must pass for a smile from her.

“Blair!” You hear from afar. The Black Eagles are all returning to base, and a few familiar faces are running towards you.

“You were so cool out there, Blair!” Yells Martha. “Me and Dorothea watched you from the back!”

“The kid’s got a point.” Dorothea adds. “I can’t believe you managed to get Ingrid to fall for that trap! How’d you do it?”

>“Uhh…well, that’s a secret!” You stammer out. Kate backs you up, solemnly nodding.

“Well, whatever you did, color me impressed. The Goddess was with you today, Blair.” Adds Xavier.

“Hey! I got to protect you this time, Blair!” Pipes up Bernadetta. “That was a nice change of pace…but just…don’t rely on me too much, please. Don’t want to let you down or anything.”

You feel someone slap their hand against your left buttock. Yelping in surprise, you turn to find Corrine, who slides her arm around your shoulder. “What are you losers doing sitting around chatting? We’re all going to the Mess Hall to celebrate, let’s go!”

>“Was that really necessary?!”

“Sorry, I suppose I got a little excited watching you pound that Gautier freak into the dirt. You reminded me of myself a bit.” Corrine remarks.

“Corrine’s right…well the first part at least.” Dorothea says. “Let’s have ourselves a party!”

The tables are all packed with lavish entrees from every corner of Fodlan, and you heart sings as you notice that in a corner of the room, lie a few untouched Peach Sorbets. While every student is welcome to partake in the feast, you notice that a few of the core members of the Lions and Deer are absent. You hope they aren’t taking the loss too badly, but you understand why someone like Ingrid would probably not be too keen on breaking bread with you tonight.
You make your way towards the Sorbet, where you spot Corrine.

“Do you have a sweet tooth as well, Blair? We really are much too much alike. I’m almost beginning to think you’re copying me.” Corrine says.

>“Your taste in treats might be the first thing I’ve seen about you that makes sense.”

Corrine laughs. “Feisty! Though I suppose it makes sense, given the circumstances. You were quite the superstar out there.”

>The girl’s sudden earnestness catches you a bit off guard. “T-thank you. I appreciate you saying so. My lord came to watch the battle. I suppose I had to make sure that I didn’t disappoint him.”

“Rex d’Rusalka, right? The Sky Shadow.” Corrine whistles. “He’s a scary fellow, isn’t he? I can’t imagine someone more difficult for you to serve. Though I suppose it could be worse…”

>“I don’t believe I’ve ever asked, but, what do you intend to do after you leave the academy?”

Corrine shrugs. “Who knows? I’ll probably be enlisted in the Adrestian Army, or possibly I’ll serve as a retainer for House Vestra, under Hubert. And then, I imagine I’ll do either one of those things until I eventually take an arrow to the throat, or a sword between my ribs.”

>“That’s…grim.”

Corrine swallows some sorbet. “I’ve made peace with it. Due to my…antics, my house has essentially forsaken me. I’m not considered marriage material, nor do I possess the necessary Crest or lineage to rise far in the army. The only thing I’m really any good at is fighting. But I suppose it’s better this way. Can you imagine me, sitting by the hearth in some dreary castle, knitting wool?” The girl snorts. “Boring.”

>“And you truly don’t have anything else you want to do?”

Corrine spoons her sorbet, before answering. “I suppose if I’m to die fighting, I’d like it to be for someone that I truly admire. Someone life-changing, maybe even someone I love.”

>“Please tell me that someone isn’t Hubert.”

“He’s not all that bad you know, if you give him a chance. But no, it isn’t.”

>“Well, I hope for your sake, you find that person is. Loathe as I am to admit it, you can be pretty charming every once and a while.”

Corrine huffs. “Is that truly what passes as a compliment for you? You know, knights are supposed to be charismatic.”

>“Ahh, sorry! You must be rubbing off on me.”

While the two of you are talking away, you notice from the corner of your eyes a girl is approaching the two of you.

“Oh my gosh! You’re Blair, right? Corrine! You didn’t tell me that the two of you were friends!” The newcomer says.

>“Hello, have we met?” You ask the girl, who is in the uniform of a Black Eagle cadet.

“Oh, I’m sort of new here, my name is Monica! It’s so nice to finally meet you! You were sooooo cool during that battle earlier! I was really impressed!”

Monica. The name is familiar. There was a student named Monica that had been missing for over a year, who had been found along with Flayn after the Death Knight had kidnapped her.

“Corrine! You should have introduced me to your friend earlier! I’ve been dying to meet her!”

Corrine remains silent.

>“Is there a particular reason you were looking for me?”

“Well, you see, I’m still enrolled in the Academy, and I’ve been told I have to find a unit to enlist with if I’m to remain in the Black Eagles. The problem is most of the other units are all full. But I heard you still have some space available, and when I saw how well you performed out there, I thought you’d be the perfect match! So, what do you say, can I join?!”

>“R-really? Well, what do you do?”

“Oh, of course! Well, think of me like a scout! I’m really good with daggers, and I’m pretty quick too! I can kill anyone that stands in our way! What do you say, Blair?”

“Monica.” Corrine says. “As you can imagine, Blair is pretty tired after the day she just had. Perhaps it’s best to not pester her right now. She can answer you later.”

“Pester? I’m not pestering you, am I Bl-“

“Go away, cretin!” Corrine raises her voice, anger evident in her tone.

“Fiiiiiiineee. But promise me you’ll think about it, Blair! It was Edel’s idea!” With that, Monica walks away.

>“Don’t you think you were a little harsh?” You ask Corrine.

The girl stares at you with a look you haven’t quite seen before. She almost appears…frantic. “That girl is nothing but trouble. For your own sake, don’t let her anywhere near you or your unit.”

>“Heh, aren’t you being-“

Corrine steps closer to you, staring you dead in the eyes. “I’m not kidding around, Blair. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.” The girl walks away.

That was certainly strange. It’s true that even with the addition of Kate, you do have two spaces left in your unit that could use filling. You don’t know how good this Monica is, but an extra scout and pair of daggers certainly couldn’t hurt, and she’s coming recommended by Edelgard. Still, Corrine must have some reason to distrust her, despite not exactly filling you in.

Considering she was part of Hubert's handpicked goon squad and how hard she's warning Blair off a cute girl she must know something.

Honestly I'd like to accept "Monica" as I don't like giving up a plot hook like that, but I wouldn't want to earn the enmity of Corrine in doing so.

You figure that you should consult with Edelgard first before accepting Monica into your ranks. If the future Emperor really did suggest that she join your group, it will be hard to say no. You make a note to yourself to seek out Edelgard at some point when you have a moment.

The next day, you head back to the Jewel of Fodlan, where Rex was staying. With the Battle of the Eagle and Lion over, most of the nobles are getting ready to depart back to their respective homes, and Rex is no different. You find your lord standing outside, tending to a massive Wyvern that was being kept in the nearby stables. There are men that are taking orders from him. They each bare insignias that depict a Wyvern’s talon, outstretched over the flag of Adrestia. You recognize that this is the insignia of the Adrestian Hellwings, an elite company of soldiers commanded by Rex himself. None of them pay you any mind, but you’re spotted by Winona, Rex’s companion you previously met. She grabs the Lord’s attention, who turns to face you.

“Well, if it isn’t the hero of the hour! I must admit, Blair, you certainly exceeded my expectations.” Rex says, jovially. He walks over to you and gives you a monstrous pat on the shoulder that almost sends you barreling to the ground.

>“I-I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed my performance…”

“You almost lost me at first. Traps like the one you laid for that Galatea girl bore me. And when you backed away from fighting that old codger Professor, why I almost threw my drink! Tell her, Winona.”

The woman nods. “Your Lord Brother made quite the scene.”

“But your duel with the Gautier boy, why that was something!” Rex squeezes your shoulder. “Crest be damned, you knocked that boy flat on his ass! That was bloody damn exciting to watch, wasn’t it Winona?”

The woman nods again. “My lord couldn’t help himself. He punched the noble in front of him, he was so thrilled. Fortunately, the man was understanding.”

>You imagine that was because he feared what would happen if he confronted this raving lunatic. “Good to hear!”

“Well, my own grievances aside, a deal is a deal. McCarthy! Get over here and bring the thing!” Rex yells.

A rough looking Hellwing with a scar on his face approaches, carrying with him a large box, which he offers to Rex, who in turn gives it to you.

“A spoil of war that I claimed from my time in Almyra, go on, open it.”

You open the box and find a wicked looking glaive. The weapon is bright red, with runes escribed on it that curl up the shaft and towards its sharp edge. When you grab it, you feel magic pulsating from within.

“The savages had some name for this weapon, one that I frankly didn’t care enough to remember. But we’ve been calling it a Flame Lance. A rather rare weapon here in Fodlan, it seems to be the equivalent of a Levin Sword. The glaive is imbued with magic and will allow you to call down flames upon your target. Though Winona tells me the number of times you can use it for that purpose are somewhat limited.”

“Twenty-five.” Winona states. “After that, you’ll have to find a skilled mage to recharge it for you.”

>“T-this is incredible. My Lord, are you sure tha-“

“I don’t want it. It’s not my style. Besides, I already have a far greater prize.” Rex notes the spear that you had seen him with previously, now slung across his back. “Gae Bolg. An Almyran Treasure, I was told, by the Warlord I slew to claim it. I hope they don’t miss it too much.”

>You Receive a Flame Lance (25/25)!

Winona reaches into her satchel, and hands you a pouch. “Consider this a gift from me. I didn’t have a chance to mention it, but I serve as Rex’s tactician in the Hellwings. While our Lord may not be interested in the finer points of your tactics, I for one was impressed.”

>You Receive Spirit Dust! (MAG +2)

>You bow before Rex and Winona. “I can’t thank the two of you enough. These are far greater gifts than I deserve.”

Rex spits. “Don’t be so formal, it sickens me. We’re not back at court in front of that doddering old fool.”

>“S-sorry. Will you be returning to Rusalka to see the Count?”

“Unfortunately, yes, my work here is done. I’ll be stopping by, and I’ll be sure to report in that old Charles isn’t wasting his gold keeping you enrolled here.”

>“I appreciate that. It was good to see you again, Rex. And it was a pleasure meeting you as well, Winona.”

“One last thing, before I go.” Rex says. “I met with Lady Edelgard. I figured it was only right to pay my respects. She informed me that you’ve been a great asset to the Black Eagles, and that you’ve been fitting in nicely here with the other cadets.”

>“Yes, I’ve been fortunate to make many friends.”

“A word of advice.” Rex says. “Don’t get too attached to them, particularly your friends from the other houses. Today’s friends, often have a habit of becoming tomorrow’s enemies. And as fun as that little mock battle was, you may find things quite different should you meet for the real thing.”

>“I understand. Though, given how long our nations have been at peace, I should hope that such a thing would not come to pass.”

Rex smiles. “You can never be so sure. Well, I’ve said all I needed. Until we meet again, Blair.”

You head back to your dorm, Rex’s words weighing heavily on your mind. A war between any of the three nations hasn’t occurred in almost 300 years. You have little reason to believe one might happen now. The man is likely speaking out of his desire to always fight. You brush it aside, and instead choose to focus on what skills you’ll work on this month.

ooh flame lance
if its weight is analogous to the Levin Sword as well (1 less than the Steel weapon) then it should be weight 10 or so
but very cool rewards, Spirit Dust also great. Blair not been using her magic too much but more stats always good.
>A) Pick two Proficiencies to raise by one grade this month. (Flying, Authority)
>B) Pick one Proficiency to raise by two grades this month (Reason)
Dark Flier wants Reason B+, so Blair is something like 6 grades away?
With the Flame Lance we no longer want Sword (except as a class requirement for Falcon Knight which is 14 levels away) because there is an alternative to a Levin Sword, and since it's rechargeable (if Blair is part of an appropriate logistical structure) she doesn't need to save up for buying one either
I can b persuaded towards Heavy Armor if anons are willing to invest but Blair is 6 grades away from C-, where iirc she would get Weight -3, so it's a large investment. Altogether Blair needs roughly 16 or more grades for class requirements, so adding Heavy Armor on top of that is putting her that much further away from those, in addition to her needing Authority to not be a background character and have access to more options in combat.

We need Reason at B+ for Dark Flier in 4 Levels. That's 5 points of investment to reach.

We need the following over the next 14 levels, aside from 5 points of Reason:
Sword at C, 5 points of investment.
Lance at A, 3 points of Investment.
Flying at B+, 4 points of investment.

Getting these 4 skills to their appropriate levels is key, but some are more urgent than others.

Assuming we grow by 1.5 levels a month, we have 10 months of training until we hit Level 30. This gives us 40 points to distribute into skills. Currently 17 points are locked away in the neccessary skill growths we need to reach our class goals, leaving us with 23 to distribute as we please. It would take us 7 of these points to get Heavy Armor C for the -3 Weight. Hopefully Anons realize that Attack Speed isn't something to scoff at after this battle, as we couldn't have demolished Sylvain without it and maybe we could've dueled Ingrid if we had more of it. We have temporary advantage here since it seems enemies will use heavier Steel weapons instead of the Silver ones for now, but the second we run in to the first enemy using Silver Weapons we lose that advantage.

The Flame Lance itself doesn't exist in Three Houses, but it's stats from Path of Radiance puts it at 12 Weight and 10 Might, if the stats are the same our Silver Lance outclasses it in Melee but it's Magic comes in handy if we are to fight Armored Knights that have very low Resistances.

----------------
As for what we do after we reach the requirements, this is what I'm thinking:

Lance at S rank gives us Lance Critical +10, which is excellent.
Reason at S rank gives +1 range to Black Magic spells, another excellent pickup.
Flying at S+ gives Negation to extra effectiveness against Flyers, which is crucial for us. Also gives Alert Stance+ on the path there which is bound to do something. Probably.

If we go for Heavy Armor C, we have 16 points left of the original 23 to distribute.
Reason B+ to S is 5 points of investment.
Lance A to S is 3 points of Investment.
Flying B+ to S+ is 7 points of Investment.

Putting us nicely at 15/16 points spent when we're done. This mean we have no room for additional points in Authority for the foreseeable future

Of course we might level further than this, and then I suggest we put those points into Authority. Alternatively we could drop Reason growth for Authority training, which would put that at S Rank after 16/16 points have been spent. As for why I suggest dropping Reason instead of Lance is that Lance will be our main Damage when we reach Falcon Knight due to it having Lancefaire (5+ damage with Lances) as an innate trait. Magic will be the backup we have if we happen to run in to something wearing too much Heavy Armor or if we don't want to be tied down in melee.

Addendum to this via Phonepost, Reason at S+ gives Black Tomefaire (+5 damage when using Black Magic) which makes us a versatile menace as we'll easily be able to dual Heavy Armor classes with low-to-mid tier spells, such as Fire or Bolganone that only has a weight of 2 and 6 (0 and 3 respectively with Heavy Armor C) from out of range of retaliation because of the +1 range to Black Magic.
