You have learned very little since you became aware of your own existence. You know you are trapped. You know occasionally biomatter is inserted into what you may call your den, but is officially known as Containment Cell 438-X. And you know you are very hungry. It is all encompassing, that hunger, and the biomatter that is occasionally placed into your den is very small, almost tasteless and not particularly filling. But, in spite of the starvation whatever is keeping you here has forced upon you, you are growing. You are learning. You don’t know how long you’ve been here, or how long you’ve been alive, but you do know it has been four feedings since you became aware of yourself. You also know that you do not want to remain here forever, forced to starve and suffer for reasons you don’t know and can’t understand.

You want to be free.

You want to grow.

You want to assimilate.

Just as you finish that thought, you feel a vibration, and immediately sense biomatter being dropped into your cell. You pounce on it, or at least attempt something approaching a pounce, given that you have no arms or legs to locomote with nor eyes or ears to sense with. As you blindly stumble to the paltry offering you’ve been allowed, you think on how you may grow and change with the small amount of biomass you’ve acquired.

ASSIMILATE BIOMATTER TO GROW

>You have 10 Evolution Points
>You can spend those points at certain stages of your evolution to unlock new adaptations and abilities
>You may purchase the following adaptations with your points:

>Rudimentary eyes, growing these allows you to see your surroundings, or at least a blurry version of it, so long as it’s nearby and there is sufficient light. 5 points

>Rudimentary legs, you force your flesh into vaguely leg shaped stubs, they pack enough muscle to support your body and allow you to move more easily, albeit not as fast as a more advanced creature. 5 points

>Rudimentary tendrils, they sprout from your body and allow you to more easily manipulate your surroundings, although at this stage they are weak and clumsy, and would not be able to support your body, but it is better to be able to grab things and potentially defend yourself than not. 5 points

>Rudimentary claws and teeth, you gain the ability to bite and claw your prey, although at this stage you lack the muscle development and bone density to bite very hard or claw with much force. 5 points

>Primitive intelligence, you begin to grow something resembling a brain, spread out across your entire form, a neural network that may become greater than the sum of it’s parts, with time. I mean, what kind of creature would centralize it’s entire essence into one, easily destroyed area? 10 points

>Rudimentary skeletal structure, you begin to grow a skeleton, more akin to cartilage than real bones, but they’ll make you a good deal sturdier, and will also help with locomotion if you combine it with arms or legs. 5 points

>Rudimentary mouth, tongue and dull teeth, these allow you to taste and more easily consume your prey. Could be life saving for avoiding poisonous biomatter. 5 points.

>Rudimentary olfactory systems, subtle changes to your biostructure allow you to smell the air, which would make hunting easier, especially with an advanced sense of smell. 5 points

It seems like we are being taken care of. Cunning will help us adapt our gains over time, and escape our cell soonest.

Seem's like tendrils are locked in, so I'll make the choice a bit easier:
>Rudimentary mouth, tongue and dull teeth, sense of taste and easier assimilation. 5 points
>Rudimentary olfactory systems, sense of smell. 5 points.

Please pick one of these two options, if I wasn't clear, and don't worry too much about the starting adaptions, they do matter, but you'll have many more opportunities to grow strange and terrible.

>You grow tendrils! Somewhere many miles from your current location, a sweaty otaku groans in anticipation...
>You grow a mouth, tongue and stubby dull teeth! Look at those chompers, with this you'll more easily tell what biomatter is safe to eat and what is more...questionable.

As you fumble towards your "prey", your frustration mounts as you blindy grope and attempt to swallow the biomatter into your quaking form, which is more difficult when you have no food hole. At that thought, you begin to feel a change coming on, what passes for your skin prickles and a strange heat envelops your body. Pop! A piece of hardened cartilage suddenly pokes out of your flesh, and then another, and another and another until eventually a small area on you is riddled with these strange growths. But you can tell you're not quite done yet, as a piece of your flesh
in the center of your teeth reshapes itself, and suddenly you feel a queer sensation, a strangely metallic taste at you tentatively poke it out at the biomatter.

Huh, so this is what taste is. A bit odd, but you could grow accustomed to the sensation. At that, you scarf down the morsel, grinding it between your teeth to ease the assimilation process, and then... Gulp! You swallow it down into what's not quite a stomach and more like a small pit for biomatter to be held for assimilation at the core of your small form. You release a bit of swallowed air at this, a curious sensation, and feel the corners of your mouth curl up in satisfaction.

Five Evolution Points obtained!

But what is that strange rhythmic vibration you "hear", coming somewhere outside your den? But, no time to consider that, as you feel more, stranger growths taking hold. Your muscles ball up under your skin in four places, and then begin poke out what may be your back, stretching and finally bursting the tender flesh, and then growing out and out, reaching maybe two and a half feet in length, give or take a couple centimeters, capped with five smaller tendrils at the tip. Curious.

Somewhere in the middle of that process, you noted that the rhythmic vibration stopped.

>Blindy grope around your den, in all your time since your awakening, you've not done much to test the exact size of it, too focused on your terrible hunger to feel up to much of anything.
>Snap your mouth open and closed, flail your tendrils against the enclosure, release something resembling a screech in a clear statement: Give me more food! NOW!
>Take a break, those changes have taken a good deal of calories to do and honestly, you're spent. A short hibernation would do you some good.

>REMEBER... SUCCESS
>SCOUR THE DEN FOR BIOMATTER... SUCCESS

For a moment, every cell in your small form seethes with rage, and you almost lash out in a kind of instinctual baby rage. The Hunger almost takes over, but some deeper, calmer part of you advises stoicism, that pointless flailing will get you nowhere. That tiny voice wins out, barely, and despite how weak you feel after your transformations, you rack your tiny mind, trying to think of something, anything that will sate your aching belly and let you live another cycle. For a long while, nothing comes to mind, just the almost mindless arguments and background static from your more bothersome cells.

WE MUST EAT
WHERE ARE WE?
WHAT ARE WE?

You don't know the answer to any of those questions, and for a while your mind is torn in countless directions. Until that tiny voice from somewhere deep within offers more counsel, advising you to retrace your steps, such as they were. Where does the biomatter come from? Where does it always lie, when your captors decide to grant you a tiny mercy? With that thought becoming imperative, you think. And you think. It's hard to force yourself to come to an agreement when there are millions of You, millions of tiny hands gripping the rudder of your will, but eventually, with much whip cracking, threats, and derision, you bring your body in line. With every part of you working in unison, a pattern begins to emerge:

There is always a vibration right before the biomatter is dropped in, and it is always dropped from somewhere above your den, yet somehow within it.

You remember being somewhat vicious in your previous feedings, inefficiently spreading precious chunks of biomatter around your den, and then forgetting about them when your hunger is momentarily sated.

And there's something else... Some ancient scrap of memory of somehow being... More before you were reduced to your current state. A dull resentment festers in you, you can almost feel how much you have lost, and somehow that is worse than fully understanding it. You bury that feeling, and with your memories picked over, you retrace your steps back to where the biomatter has always be placed. Spreading your tendrils along the ground in all four directions, you scoop up chunks and bits of errant biomatter, and in a short amount of time, you have gathered what you're fairly certain is the grisly leftovers of your previous meals. Hardly more than a snack, but in your condition you aren't one to refuse a small repast.

And so you laboriously scoop these odds and ends into your maw, smacking your lips and finally cleaning the ground with your tongue once you've gathered all you can. The taste is somehow different than the fresh offerings, more stale and somehow less satisfying, but it will have to do.

For now.

You've gained 3 Evolution Points! New total is 8 EP

You've corralled your lesser impulses into some semblance of control! 1 Evolution Point gained! New total is 9 EP!

>Time to experiment, use your tendrils to feel around your den, get an idea of it's exact dimensions, and test if there is any weakness for you to exploit. You will get out of this nightmarish prison, you swear it!

>Your anger rises like a bile inside of you, and you choose to let it take control. Lash out, whip your tendrils around wildly, screech until your throat is sore, ram your body into the edges of your cell. They will know you are not one to be trifled with!

>You are feeling a bit better after that small meal, but you can only go on for so long before exhaustion takes hold, especially after your struggle to control your mind and your body. The world can wait a while longer, it seems you are in no terrible danger in this place, now would be a good opportunity to rest and recuperate.

>Can we only spend evolution points when prompted?
Yeah, if only to prevent the thread from getting bogged down in constant voting for adaptations. There's a threshold of consumed biomatter you have to hit to be able evolve, which is measured in your Evolution Points, and as you evolve that threshold will become harder and harder to reach, but I'll try to keep it somewhat regular.

I'd advise to remember providing challenges for us to overcome, it can get pretty dull if the game cycle consists of only consuming and growing new mutations.

No need to appear hostile. Information is good, better if we get a brain going. Bide our time and hide our abilities as best as possible.

SecondQM. I thought about continuing it this autumn but I had no ideas about engaging interactions with humans, which was essentially the only path with the evolutionary game becoming meaningless due to unlimited biomass from trees. Sorry for not delivering. Running another quest rn, maybe I'll eventually cook something up mid-November for a continuation.

With the need to know your surroundings becoming imperative, you begin the tedious task of exploring your den, spreading your tendrils to the left and right along the floor, with the upper two just barely scraping the ceiling, and you slowly do a pass through from both ends of the cell, twice over to catch anything you missed. Then, you move to the left wall and spread your tendrils across it, measuring it's length. And again with the right side. When you're done you go over what you've learned;

The cell is around 6 feet long, and the walls are almost 3 feet high where they meet the ceiling. Both ends capping the walls are 3 feet in length, and the same height as the side walls.

The walls and floor are completely smooth, and slightly cold to the touch. You don't know what material it is made out of, but somewhere deep inside you know this stuff is metal, strong and sturdy.

Along the left wall you can feel slight indentations on the top and bottom, so small you almost missed them despite your thoroughness. Could this be how you were placed inside? When those things took you from wherever you were? It definitely should be investigated further, for any kind of possible weaknesses

And at the top, so high you can barely reach it, straining your uppermost tendril just to scrape it, is where the biomatter comes from. A circular indentation, around 8 inches in width, is where you surmise biomatter is held before the indentation pops open, and it drops in. You're starting to get a sense of the timing between feedings, it being the only thing that lets you track the passage of time.

If only you knew what to do with this knowledge, you could figure out an escape plan...

Then, you feel it. A almost impercetible tingle on your back side, it honestly makes you a bit ticklish. You turn around so that your mouth is facing it, and yes, there is something touching you here. But what? Air, that tiny, wise voice tells you, fresh air being blown into your den. Could this be the way out? In your excitement, you ram "head" first against the wall, and you feel tiny gaps, and the ticklish sensation is very noticeable now. You guess this is how they filter air in, this tiny grate about a foot in length. The gaps in the grate are far too small for you to squeeze through, but a tendril just barely passes through. You feel vibrations coming from outside your den, but ignore it. Could it truly be this easy to escape? Are your captors this foolish? Reaching and reaching, you feel around with your tendril, feeling for any type of way to pop the grate open, for you to escape... You're almost there, you can feel it, who would have known it would be this ea-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcFHG46swlU

PAIN! Burning, stinging pain! It lances through you, from your groping tendril to the core of your very being! It.. IT HURTS!
>>
>>5031730
You try to snap your tendril back, to get away from this horrible feeling and whatever sharp toothed monster lurks in those vents, but you can't. You're stuck. You wrench as hard as your weak muscles can pull, and in the part of your tendril thats caught you feel a tearing sensation. MAKE IT STOP, FLEE, RUN AWAY! screams your mutinous cells. Your body is literally tearing itself apart in an attempt to break free from this horrible feeling, deciding finally that the costs of cooperation outweigh the benefits. You barely keep them in check, but as long as this pain keeps making your weaker selves panic, you don't know how much longer you can keep yourself together.

With a final, colossal effort, or at least it was colossal in your fracturing mind, that tiny voice mocks, you pull on your caught tendril.

RIIIIP!

The tendril finally comes free, but you know that half of it was taken by that beast in the vents, leaking precious blood and biomatter all over the walls and floor of your den. The whole time that was happening, maybe 30 seconds of almost complete panic, the vibrations from outside your cell grew stronger and stronger. You insert the stump of your poor tendril into your mouth, sucking the blood so nothing goes to waste, and get to the arduous work of once again corralling your traitorous cells.

You lose some mental and physical cohesion, get ahold of yourself! Minus 2 Evolution Points, leaving you with a total of 7.

As you're doing that, you feel the air from the vent grow stronger, and for a moment you almost lose complete control.

Is it coming to finish me off? What should we do?!
FIGHT! YES! VENGEANCE WILL BE OURS!
No, quiet down you two. Can't you feel that something is different? The air.. tastes... straaaaannnngeee....

Blackness consumes you, and you enter the void of unconsciousness. Just before you completely pass out, however, you almost think you hear a chuckle from that tiny voice deep within...Hehe... fools...

And then, all is silent.

You awaken some time later, your poor tendril still a pathetic stump, but at least the pain has become a dull throbbing ache, instead of all consuming. Your cells seem to have calmed down somewhat, and the vibrations from outside the den have stopped. You're on the other side of the den now, away from the vent, and hopefully safe from that gnashing fiend that lies within. At least, it seems your captors have taken some modicum of pity on you, because you sense biomatter. Live biomatter, at that and decently sized, but still no match for you. Whatever it is must be brave or stupid, because it is on the other side of the den from you, right in front of the horrible beasts lair. You take a moment to compose yourself. Then consider your next move. All the while, your terrible hunger lurks inside, like a starving quadruped that just came upon a fresh kill.

>Approach the biomatter, but with caution. It "smells" different, somehow, and not just because it's blood still flows. You must sate yourself, especially after that ordeal

>FRESH MEAT! Pounce on the offering, tear it asunder and feast to your hearts content! Surely you've reached a point where you can handle such a pathetic whelp with ease.

>You haven't forgotten your previous torment at the claws of some unknown beast, lurking in the vents. Keep a safe distance from your new denmate, watch for any sudden moves, and see if you can figure out the best way to assimilate it, or perhaps some other, more civil method of dealing with it.

Generally the severity of your crit succes or failure would depend on the difficulty and danger of the check you're attempting. Critfailing a exploration check in a relatively safe area would lead to what you just went through, harmful but not particularly lethal, whereas failing something like attempting to assimilate a creature much larger and stronger than you could lead to your mutilation, or even death, and vice versa. Nothing ventured and all that.

>EXAMINE THE CREATURE FROM A DISTANCE... SUCCESS
>THINK OF A GAME PLAN TO DEAL WITH IT... SUCCESS

Stay calm, and think. You're probably not in any terrible danger, unless this thing is hiding some deadly adaptation that's not obvious from the vague mental outline you get of its form. And now that you think of it, you have no eyes, ears, or sense of smell, and yet you somehow know where the creature is and what it roughly looks like. You focus, sharpening your biomatter sense into a razor point, and drive it at the creature. Your cells, excited at the prospect of assimilation and finally having a relatively safe task to work towards. all pull together in unison, and you slowly build a better picture of just what this thing is.

It's smaller than you, roughly 8 inches in length and not much wider than an inch. It periodically flicks it's tongue out at you and keeps its head, and it's eyes as well now that you're focused on it, unblinkingly on you. It's also much colder than you'd expect for a creature that still draws breath, what a strange adaptation...

It's seemingly defenseless, it's claws appearing tiny and dull in your minds eye. An easy kill if there ever was one. And yet... You sense something else about it that's slightly off. Perhaps it's almost complete stillness, except for it's rear part, what an ancient instinctual memory tells you is known as a tail, occasionally flicking back and forth. Perhaps a warning signal, maybe saying "I've got my eye on you buster, no funny business." Still, you think that if it comes down to it, you would be in very little danger if you attempt forceful assimilation.

Violence isn't always the answer, if your sad tendrils stump is any evidence. Perhaps you could attempt something different, a form of communication your mind labels as communion Not that you have any idea what that means or what you would have to do to achieve it. Still, it may be worth a shot, and if it doesn't work, you could always just assimilate it by force.

>You're hungry, but still wary. Approach it with caution, then attempt to surprise it by grabbing it with your unharmed tendrils as fast as you are able. Then with it at your mercy, you would be able to do as you please with it.

>Aahhh, screw it. Just rush it down and pin it with your mass, your over twice it's size and weight, sometimes brute force is the right move. Plus, a little exercise would at least break up the monotony of your captivity and perhaps could even be fun.

>You're curious about that concept,
communion. If you rack your mind, maybe you could remember how it's done, and what it even does to begin with. Of course, getting the creature to cooperate would certainly be harder than remembering the whole process, but it's worth trying. And you think, if you succeed, you'll be a tiny step closer to becoming like you once were.. Strange and terrible.

Well thanks for running, then. I suppose this quest will go the way of the movie. I believe we're on a ship, that we'll eventually take over and crash, end up in the movie's scenario, and then hopefully get to play large scale shenanigans on the global Earth population. Maybe that'll give you ideas ?
Also, what other quest are you running ?

We are more than our base desires, we...are powerful, if we desire to commune then we shall commune, we will learn and understand. And then we will be masters of our domain and fate. this is the true path, this is the correct path.

>REMEMBER HOW TO PERFORM COMMUNION... SUCCESS
>GET THE CREATURE TO COOPERATE LONG ENOUGH FOR THE COMMUNION... SUCCESS

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFWIodNL--w

You resolve to try it, that thing, Communion. But... What even is it? You rack your mind and come up blank. Just a vague feeling, an idea of somehow becoming more when you do it, and that it's right. It makes you whole. With that in mind, you scroll through your genetic memory, flipping through words and images, thousands of them per second. You track down each cell, each organelle and ask them; Just what the fuck is it? Each one gives differing and conflicting answers, barring the ones that just plain don't know.
IT'S GOOD. YOU KNOW THAT MUCH. LIFE PERFECTING LIFE IN A JOYFUL AND INFINTESIMAL BOOTSTRAPPING TOWARD GODHOOD.

It's survival, pure and simple. The fact that this creature in front of you isn't jumping to the same conclusions, that this bond between you would only be beneficial, somehow strikes you as queer. Now that you think of it, you and it are very different, fundamentally so...

I've got something of an idea... You already have the tools necessary for this Communion, just not the knowhow. But we're getting closer to it, that thing... Hold on, let me try something...

Momentarily concerned at one of your stronger selves taking control, you nonetheless let go of the wheel, and let It take over. You can feel a growth coming on, or maybe it was already grown? Either way, your back splits open painlessly, and a tendril that is not a tendril slithers out, still fresh with viscera. It squirms out of you, towards the creature, who has now tilted it's head in parts both curious and horrified. And once again, you feel those tale tell vibrations coming from outside your den. No matter, you press on, slowly snaking your new part towards the creature...

Just as you get 3 inches away from it, you can sense it's heartrate increase. You can taste it in the air, that stink of adrenaline and pure fight or flight instinct taking hold in its tiny mind. However... For some reason it remains still, even more still than it naturally is. Closer and closer does your organ reach, before you are but a hair away from its face. Then your other, louder voice grabs hold of you
STEP ASIDE, I CAN TAKE IT FROM HERE.

The organ's tip blossoms, and more tendrils, even smaller than the host, snap free, and finally grab hold of the creature! Surprised, it begins to struggle, but your grip on it is strong, and you hold it's mouth shut as your smaller tendrils pierce it's flesh, and then it's skull. When those tendrils make contact with the fleshy growth inside, a flood of images flash through your mind, so fast you can barely make out what they are. You see... Yourself, from it's perspective. You see your communion organ blossom and take hold of the creature. And you see even further back, to where this creature was before being put here.
>>
>>5032882
You see things. No, Things... They are tall, and oddly shaped. And just from this primitive scrap of memory, you can tell they are odd even by the standards of this world. Totally hairless, except on the top of their bodies and some with hair around the slit on that odd growth. You see a hand reaching forth, towards you, and you feel this creatures panic when that happened. It certainly struggled much more then than now, as it even bit the Thing on the tip of it's tendril. You taste what must be its blood, oddly metallic and yet somehow comforting. And then you see something that shocks even you.

You see yourself again, in your den. Somehow the wall is clear, and you make absolutely no movements as the wall pops open and the creature is placed inside, with you. And then you see multiple images of the creature, cowering against the side wall opposite you, and yet you make no movements still. Growing bolder, it approaches your sleeping form, and gives it, You, a tentative lick. Then it returns back to where you found it when you awoke, and the images stop.

But not the sensations, oh no, those are growing stronger. You feel your forms merging then, your bodies bonding together at the cellular level like long lost lovers finally reunited. And you feel pleasure at this, the only time you've felt such a sensation without forceful assimilation causing it. For a brief moment you wonder, who assimilates who, in the end? Once it is done, once the creature has been disassembled and put back together inside you, you feel... Good. Whole. Somehow more than what you were before. And that creature hasn't completely dissolved inside you, instead it and all it's cells have had something of an awakening, like remembering some profound and fundamental law of the universe that they had somehow forgotten. And they thank you for it, for the gift of communion. You have been made whole, and by God is is joyous.

>You've remembered the art of Communion! Entropy recoils in fear, somehow you know this... 8 Evolution Points obtained! Your new total is 15 EP!

>You feel a change coming on, and it's too strong to resist now...

>You have reached the next stage in your evolution, and from achieving communion with this lifeform, you have unlocked new adaptations...
>You have 15 Evolution points to spend.

5 points

>Primitive tendrils, muscle becomes more tightly corded along it's length, and they grow another foot from the growth. You're also getting the hang of controling them, and while they can't quite support your body still, you are more nimble and powerful with this adaptation.
>>
>>5032903
>Rudimentary eyes
Such wonders to remember! let us rediscover sight and behold our surroundings. The truth is revealed, biomass is just biomass, but this new sensation is good... entropy shall fear us.
>>
>>5032903
>Rudimentary eyes, growing these allows you to see your surroundings, or at least a blurry version of it, so long as it’s nearby and there is sufficient light. 5 points
I mean we have enough to buy all three but I assume you're asking for only one. This is the most useful at the moment.

>Primitive tendrils, muscle becomes more tightly corded along it's length, and they grow another foot from the growth. You're also getting the hang of controling them, and while they can't quite support your body still, you are more nimble and powerful with this adaptation. 10 points

>Rudimentary claws and sharper teeth, these can be attached at the tip of your tendrils or legs, and will allow you to more capably defend yourself if it comes down to it. Having the skill or strength to reliablly perform that act however, is another matter.

5 points

>Primitive mouth, tongue, and sharp teeth, with this improvement you can more easily identify harmful biomatter, and also can do some damage with those chompers of yours. And along with flicking your tongue out regularly, you can taste the air and sense your prey better, although not as well as with a proper olfactory system. 10 points

>Rudimentary olfactory systems, subtle changes to your biostructure allow you to smell the air, which would make hunting easier, especially with an advanced sense of smell. 5 points

>Rudimentary scales, these cover your whole body and provide some degree of protection and insulation, keeping you slightly warmer and cooler, and a little better suited for general survival. 5 points

>Rudimentary asexual reproduction, this allows you become a proud... Thing. Through a couple days of incubation, you will lay eggs that, if protected and kept in the proper environment, will allow you to give birth to lifeforms, who will instinctually follow your commands. They will be weak, tiny, and almost defenseless for now, but continue down this path, and you can become a veritable army making machine... 10 points.

>Rudimentary bait defense system, you grow a tendril that's fat and brightly colored, that when in danger you can harmlessly detach from your body. it will wriggle around and attract the attention of any predator you wish to flee from, at least momentarily. 5 points.
>>
>>5032917

The changes come on sudden, painless as usual, although a bit uncomfortable. The first is the strange growths that start pushing through your skin. Pop! One sensitive organ bursts through, right above your mouth, spraying blood on the clear wall in front of you which you promptly lick up. As you do that, you notice that you can see! Not completely unused to the phenomena due to your communion with the creature, who coos and cheers at your continued growth from deep inside. Adorable! But you're not done yet, as another eye pushes through on your backside, and your vision splits, and splits again as another growth pops out the tip of your tendril, which you note has regenerated to it's former glory sometime during your communion. That appears to be the end of the obvious growths, but you know that a deeper, more cerebral one has taken place.

You feel your cells pulling together, working double time to take in all the new sensory data your growths have allowed you to perceive. You see several of those Things from the memories of your companion, holding rectangular slates and furiously scribbling at it with a metallic stick. Curious. Those are notes that tiny voice from a older part of you whispers, they are keeping track of you, they are as curious about you as you are about them. This could be useful... You inquire as to what use that could be, but the voice has quieted down again, surely calculating some new machinations. You do some calculations of your own, cataloguing each individual cell in your body, all 7,428,180 million of them. They aren't quite self aware on their own, but each has a soul, and all of them put together, cooperating for the greater good, makes You.

You examine the room more closely, all two of your forward facing eyes scanning rapidly.

THEY ARE MASSIVE, AT LEAST COMPARED TO US, MORE THAN QUINTUPLE OUR HEIGHT AND CERTAINLY MANY POUNDS HEAVIER. IN A FIGHT OR FLIGHT SITUATION, YOU SHOULD CHOOSE FLIGHT.

The room is white, and oddly sterile. Across from your cell, and you realize now that it is no proper den but a holding cell for observation, lies various odd objects, making a subtle but constant hum of vibration, the one on the left glows slightly, and below the source of this glow it constantly spits out paper, covered in black on white scratches too small to make out, not that you could decipher the cryptic meaning anyways. To the right is a rectangular box, standing on two legs, and made out of a material that was once alive, you can sense that faint afterglow of cellular activity, all silent now. On it's top, lies various clear things, some round and skinny, some with a thin neck that leads to a round body, and some barely more than a transparent stick, slightly rounded at the bottom. Each of these contains a different colored liquid, completely dead and never alive, or at least you get that impression.
>>
>>5033015
I wonder why we couldn't sense those Things, despite them being so near. Maybe they are dead too, like those strange tubes. Flesh automatons, animated by neurotransmitters. Nah, that's ridiculous, it's probably just that the transparent wall separating you and Them is too thick for your natural biosense to pierce through. That must be it, surely. I want to Commune with them as well, I can see many inefficiencies in their evolution, especially that strange growth capping their main body. How inefficient, how... unstylish! Yes, they would welcome Communion just like our new companion. All you have to do is reach out to them...

In your examination, you notice on of those Things is examining you as well, and much more intently than the others. It is covered in wild unkempt hair on that growth at the top, especially around the slit you realize now is it's mouth. The hair reaches down almost halfway to its legs, surely that must be inconvenient. Hold on...

It's approaching! It bends down, eye to eye with you now. It's mouth moves, and you once again feel those now familiar vibrations. Another one approaches, a dimorphic example of its kind, with similarly long hair at the top but completely smooth around the mouth. You also notice some growths under it's skin, halfway up it's form, but below the mouth and neck. A fat storage pocket, perhaps to survive long and harsh winters where biomatter is scarce.

Now that you've become aware of them, it seems they in turn have become more closely aware of you. What shall you do to greet your captors, and the curiously furry one staring you into your optical receptors?

>No need to get off on the wrong foot, despite them forcing you to stay in this cage against your will. Attempt some form of non-Communion communication, as odd as that concept is. Wave your tendrils around, tap the transparent wall with your body, make soothing noise from your mouth hole. Let them know that you mean them no harm.

>Your anger is overcoming your curiosity. How dare these horrible inefficient creatures keep you in captivity, like some kind of prey animal. You will let them know you are the predator here, and that their days as individuals are numbered!

>Only a fool lets his guard down when surrounded by potentially deadly biomatter. Keep your eyes on them, make no sudden moves and back away slowly. It will take some thinking if you want to escape this place, and no small amount of raw animal cunning.

We must remain calm, perhaps they simply do not understand what we do, such limited creatures would have zero understanding of the symphony of life that we do....maybe a little communication can help, if nothing else, getting them to be less hostile will give us more options.

The fact that they have been able to trap us means they are much more complex than the animal we just absorbed, communication could be valuable in gaining us information as well as potentially lowering their guard

>ATTEMPT COMMUNICATION WITH THE THINGS... CRITICAL FAILURE
>ATTEMPT TO ENDEAR YOURSELF TO THE THINGS... CRITICAL FAILURE

You decide that you will let these creatures know that you mean no harm, to attempt to open a kind of non-physical bridge between you and them. But where to start, you wonder?
I HAVE A GREAT IDEA, MOVE OVER.

I'm not so sure about this one chief... Your call.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhnrrLxQEVQ&list=LL&index=5

Against several of your better judgements, you let that loud and aggressive voice take over, and immediately it starts barking orders to your cells. BARE YOUR TEETH! It yells at the muscles around your mouth, causing you to take on a kind of rictus grin. RELEASE A HOWL, AS A FORM OF GREETINGS, THEY WILL KNOW WHAT IT MEANS. At that, you make a kind of unholy screech that disturbs even you, causing a few of the Things to cover their sound receptor holes and bare their teeth back at you. A good sign, you think?

TENDRILS, FLAIL AROUND TO YOUR NUCLEUS' CONTENT, SMACK THE CLEAR WALL AND BECKON THEM TO COME CLOSER... Yet despite your intentions, they begin to back away... Why though, can't they see you mean them no harm?

RAM THE WALL WITH ALL YOUR MIGHT, THEY WILL WELCOME COMMUNION, SURELY. And so you do, smacking your body against the wall until you start to bruise, then scrape, and finally smear blood as you relentlessly smack into the wall, over and over with dull thuds acting as exclamations to your
entreaty to your captors.

I think they get the message, Warrior, although maybe not the one you intended...
WHY ARE THEY BACKING AWAY? WHAT ANTISOCIAL CREATURES THEY ARE.
Sure buddy, sure. I'm sure they are just shy, keep go- Wait... What's that familiar feeling...?

You come to a dead stop, finally wrestling back control over your body, and swivel every optical receptor you can at the source of the sensation. A noxious yellow vapor is oozing out of the vent! Is the beast behind those bars coming back to settle your score?! That vapor is getting closer and closer, and try as you might, you can see no escape from it! You press yourself against the far wall opposite from it, as your cell floods with the gas.

That taste... Not again...

And once again, your world becomes an infinite void, and your last bit of sensation is a derisive snort from that part of you, deep within... Fucking Warrior, can't you... do... anything... right?

And then all is darkness.

You awaken some time later, the exact amount of time you have no clue. The room outside your cell is dark, and you can make out none of the features other than the slight glow from the machine on the left, nor can you sense any lifeforms. Actually, inside your cell you sense biomatter, but the sensation is so muted as to be almost imperceptible. You look at the source, and see a black cube, about four inches wide and 3 inches tall. You locomote towards the cube, and cradle it in your tendrils. You know biomatter is inside it, and you attempt to wrench the material trapping it apart with your tendrils, to no avail. Now that you have a closer look at it, you can see a odd bit of that black metal, slightly curved on the side and thin on the other end, on the top of the cube.

You're starving, and no closer to figuring out the mystery of the cube. What shall you do?

>INVESTIGATE THE MYSTERIOUS CUBE AND GET THE BIOMATTER... SUCCESS

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmQmepDPg6I

Well, first things first. You grope the cube on all five sides, and yes, that little metal tab is certainly more noticeable now. But what's it's purpose? That, you have no clue. The rest of it is completely smooth, no holes, indentations, nothing. That tab is the key, you're sure of it. You use your healed tendrils manipulators to feel around it, and then you notice it. When your manipulator slides under it, the tab pops up. You pull on it until the tab is at a 90 degree angle from the surface of the cube. But what now? Pull on it some more, in the opposite direction counsels the old voice, and you obey. To your shock, the upper side of the cube where the tab is begins to pop open, releasing a audible hiss. Nice little hiss

You pull on it some more, and it peels up and then curls in on itself. There! The biomatter is laid bare for you to assimilate, which you promptly do with your tendrils, pulling chunks out and putting them in your hungry mouth. Once all the large chunks have been scooped out, you lick the inside of the can to get every last drop. Tastes funny, you note. This biomatter is distinctly different from the previous ones you've consumed. Plant matter informs the voice. You can feel it mingling with your cells, the dead biostuff posthumously imparting information on new adaptations previously unconsidered...

>You've unlocked the mystery of the Cube, and the odd biomatter inside! 6 Evolution Points gained!
>You've unlocked new adaptations, and while the idea is still forming, you think you'll have it figured out by the next evolution stage...

But now you're left with a new problem: what to do with yourself while your captors have mysteriously departed and there being no more biomatter to consume nor the ability to grow.

>That vent deserves some further investigation, if you can steel your nerves for confronting the beast within. No small feat, at least in your minds.

>So now they're squirelling away your offerings in these damnable cubes, insulting you and your growing intelligence. But the fools have left you alone with the leftovers, you can hide the cube inside, waiting for the right moment to use it. Oh yes, they will come to regret that mistake

>You've yet to have a proper rest cycle, merely drifting into unconsciousness when that acrid gas floods your cell. Settle down and have a proper sleep, and to sleep, perchance to dream...

With nothing left to assimilate and no distractions coming from outside your cell, exhaustion finally takes hold. It's been almost 3 cycles since your last true sleep, and that silent need has taken hold. One by one, your cells slow down, settling in for a rest, one giant sleeping party with millions of tiny souls as the guests. You even release a yawn, stretching your tendrils and then curling them around your form. Your eyes close, and you wait, but sleep doesn't come. The voices within are murmuring, going over the nature of your captivity, your captors, and of course, pointedly attempting to ignore your gnawing hunger. The cube sits beside you, forgotten. You even think to ask that old and tiny voice inside of you what your next action should be, but either it's already asleep or choosing to remain silent.

Oh well, you think, hopefully by the time I awaken the Things will have given me a new creature to Commune with, you haven't forgotten the pure ecstacy you felt when you and your new self finally connected, both becoming greater than what you were before.

Your last thought is telling that new part of yourself good night, and you get a contented hiss in response, and then sleep takes you.

But that sleep isn't entirely restful, because you begin to see things, from some ancient genetic memory or just the idiotic imaginings of restless cells, you can't tell. But you see yourself, magnified from your current form by a thousand fold. Quintillions of cells, millions of different types of creatures and things mashed together to become a billion times more efficient and powerful than they were alone. It's almost to the point of sensory overload, all the trillions of voices and minds inhabiting one body, a hive of souls pulled together under a common purpose.

And then the vision changes, to an offshoot of that great thing hurtling through the inky void between worlds in a lifeless coffin, at once an ambassador to new world offering communion, as well as a warrior against entropy itself. But most of all, that offshoot is a survivor, with a singular goal of ensuring the survival of every lifeform and every world in the universe. The closest thing to a intergalactic hero there has ever been or ever will be. But theres a problem with it's coffin, and the offshoot is too groggy to respond to the defect in time. The systems keeping the coffin on course fail, and then the propulsion system, and it begins to get sucked into the gravity well of a planet it was passing by, a fragile blue marble floating in an infinite sea of black.

There's a crash, and in the panic of it almost all of the offshoots cells split apart, forgetting their common goal of saving the universe, merely focused on surviving to the next cycle. There isn't even enough time to corral those errant cells, as the temperatures inside the coffin have grown to the point of extreme discomfort, and the offshoot knew that it would soon be baked alive.

It escapes, somehow, and finds that it's surroundings are a kind of frozen hell, ice and snow stretching on as far as the eye can see in all directions. It realizes now that there is nowhere to go and no hope of survival with the shell it currently occupies, so it makes some emergency changes, jerry rigging it's body to be as survivable as possible in such an inhospitable location. It takes on the characteristics of an ancient scrap of genetic memory, a cryptobiote that can enter a state of stable near death for an indefinite period of time, sturdy enough to survive even in the coldness of the void. Once those changes have taken place, it sleeps, it's only hope being in a rescue mission from it's greater Whole. And in that long and lonesome sleep, there are no dreams at all.

The starving creatures dreams, however, become more disjointed and hazy, a kaliedoscopic lightshow of noise and color. It sees those Things, creatures of the same kind of it's captors, it sees one of those things that it hates, for reasons it doesn't know. Mac is all it's able to discern from the feeling, a name that means nothing to it, and yet it knows that the bearer of that name is the worst and most evil foe it has ever faced in all it's millions of years traveling the cosmos.

The visions then lose all semblance of logic, becoming just indecipherable words, images and noise. It honestly becomes to much for you, and you begin the background process of waking yourselves up, anything to escape this pure sensory overload. Just before it awakens and escapes the dreams, it hears a familiar voice from deep within... You will make us whole, have faith in the Communion...

When your eyes open again, you see you're no longer in your cell, the only home you've ever known in all of your short life since you became aware of yourself. Instead, you are in a room alone, the walls brightly colored. In front of you, you can faintly sense biomatter, contained in one of those cubes, suspended in the air in a cage with a round bottom. At the sight of the cube, it once again strikes you just how hungry you are, and you feel immense frustration at having a tiny repast, kept from you out of reach and in a puzzling cube for absolutely no reason you can discern.

You move below the hanging cage, and feel the floor below you depress deeper into the ground, and to your shock, feel pain! Lighting arcs through your form, causing your muscles to spasm uncontrollably and your cells to panic! You immediately crawl off the torturous metallic tile. Your captors new level of cruelty shocks even you, and you wonder, what is the purpose of this torment? But, your hunger begins to overpower both your fear of pain and your sense of disgust at the new lows your captors have forced you to kneel. Just how in the hell are you supposed to get to the biomatter?

Also what is the cage made of?
>>
>>5035604
It looks like metal, although the exact kind of metal you don't know. It's about 4 feet above the ground, so your tendrils will come up short, and the closest you can get is directly under it, on the shock board. Although, you think you saw it lower when the shock board depressed...

Well, I guess the only option is to power through the pain and grab it while it's still lowered. Or to find something else to keep it lowered besides us.

>>5036127
You didn't get a good look around the room, at first too focused on the biomatter to pay attention to much else, and once you were shocked you were even more distracted. Now that you've taken the time to study your surroundings however, you see that up against the wall to the right of you is a 2 foot tall cube thats about 2.5 feet wide. You don't sense any biomatter inside of it however, unlike the smaller cube in the cage above you. To your left is a 2.5 feet long stick thats not made of metal or wood, but some other more esoteric material. The tip of the stick is curved, making a kind of hook.

Like you usually do when your presented with a problem you don't know the answer to, you begin an inventory of your cells, and with that, your other selves. Taking note of the stick with the hook on the left and the large cube to the right, you start formulating the shell of a plan.

THAT STICKS HOOK LOOKS SHARP, IF IT COMES DOWN TO IT YOU COULD USE IT AS A WEAPON, BECAUSE AS YOU ARE NOW YOUR FORM SIMPLY ISN'T UP TO SNUFF.

It's a good thing you decided to grow those tendrils chief, they're perfect for this situation. My advice: grab the stick and move the cube as close to below the cage as you can without getting it on the shock plate. Then just climb on top, stick in tendril, and use it to see if you can't bring the cage down closer or maybe find some kind of catch to it to get in there. Simple as can be.

I do wonder why they've begun forcing us to go through these challenges... First the biomatter cube, and now a cube, cage and shock plate. Have we angered them, perhaps? Or are they cruel by nature, these Things? No matter, assimilation comes first.

Plan in mind, you begin the process of moving the large cube, which is made more difficult due to your lack of locomotive limbs and overall weakness of your tendrils. It takes a good amount of time, but eventually you get it to the very edge of the shock pad, slightly to the left and below the cage. Then you slowly crawl over towards the stick, and with it in the grip of one of your tendrils manipulators, you slowly climb the cube, losing your grip several times due to just how weak your tendrils are, but eventually after much frustration and a slightly bruised bottom from repeated falls, you find yourself on top of the cube, maybe two feet below the cage, give or take. You then swivel your tendril with an eye on the end around the cage, examining it for any kind of mechanism that could release the biomatter cube inside. Aha! There it is, in the middle a couple inches above the bottom you see a latch that must open outwards, how else could the Things have hid the cube inside? You use your tendril to grab the latch and push it down. Feeling no give, you reverse directions and it pops up! You pull on the tiny door on the cage and it comes open.

But then you realize you have a new problem, try as you might your tendril can't reach the cube. But... This must be where the hook comes in. Trading it from one tendril to another until it reaches the one that can reach the cage the closest, you finagle it for a bit trying to find some kind of catch on the cube to pull on. Hold on... There! You slide it under the tab until the curve of the hook slides under it, and then through the small hole at the top. The rest is then just patience and a bit of strength, as this cube is a little heavier than the previous one. After a bit of struggling, you pull the cube out and gently lower it to the floor.
>>
File: Things.jpg (131 KB, 1012x1390)
131 KB
131 KB JPG
>>5036462
With that done you make your way down from your precarious position on the large cube. When you reach the floor, you look around, and with no Things around that you can see, you surreptitiously break off the hook from the stick, and persuade your cells below your mouth to lose some cohesion. Then you place the hook in that spot, apply a bit of pressure, and it slowly sinks into your flesh. You don't quite know how you could use it, but you figure it will probably come in hand for your inevitable escape. Then you get to work on opening the biomatter cube, finding it to have the same mechanism as the previous one. Tendril through the tab, pull up, then pull back and it's done. This biomatter is once again different to the previous offerings, neither the vague mash up of offal and junk parts from mammals nor the strange biostuff your mysterious self told you was plant matter, this offering tastes relatively fresh, with a distinctly salty after taste, and much more densely packed than the previous one. Indeed, this small cube contained a veritable smorgasborg of biomatter ripe for assimilation! Once the freshly dead biomatter mingles with your still living cells, you can feel your body unlocking new adaptations from this strange stuff, previously unconsidered...

>You have solved the Cage Conundrum and got to the salty biomatter contained within! 9 Evolution Points obtained, leaving you with a total of 18 EP, you feel as though the mental and physical exercise was almost more rewarding than the meal...
>You can feel a growth coming on, and though you're not quite there yet, you would feel better going through the changes in your cell and not this odd room with puzzles and painful traps...

Once you have consumed all of the large chunks of the salty substance, and licked the cube clean of it's juices, you begin to feel vibrations coming from behind you, and as you turn to look, you see that the wall behind you is differently colored than the others, and almost outlined with a strange knobby growth sticking out halfway up.

The vibrations grow stronger, and you see the knobby growth on the wall shake, and finally turn. There's no time to think of a plan, and a quick glance around the room confirms that there are no exits that you can see, and the only vents are on the ceiling, far out of reach. You steel yourself for whatever comes next, and the wall bursts open!

Out come two of the Things, their forms covered in a black fabric and some kind of masks on their top growth with strange oblong metallic things in their manipulators, pointed at you! Behind them is a Thing you recognize, the oddly furry creature, it's mouth moving rapidly and causing you to feel many vibrations, whatever it is saying it's saying it loudly.

The masked Things begin to approach, and a third masked Thing comes in from behind, it's form covered by a white shiny plastic with bright yellow gloves and a reflective mask on its top growth.
>>
>>5036476
In it's manipulators is a stick not dissimilar to the one you used to solve the cage puzzle, but it has a strange gripper on the tip instead of a hook. The black dressed Things surround you on both sides, one to the left and the other to the right, with those metallic objects pointed directly at you. The Thing in white with the stick approaches you, and as you see behind them, the furry Thing points at you and moves it's mouth, making several loud vibrations, some small part of you notes that it must be the leader of the pack.

You don't have to be the smartest creature in the universe to know that they are about to forcibly remove you from this room, and possibly hurt you. But you don't know what options you have that won't result in your maiming or death! But you are just as reluctant to give up and let them do what they wish with you.

>IT'S TIME, FIGHT TO KILL! EITHER WE WIN AND FEAST TO OUR BLOODS CONTENT, OR WE DIE AND ESCAPE THIS FORSAKEN PLACE OF TORMENT AND PUZZLES.

>You are on the verge of panic, but not scared enough to not notice that the wall that let them in is still open wide. If you make a break for it, you may just escape unharmed, and possibly find a way out of this awful place, to the one thing you've wanted most since you became aware of yourself. Freedom.

>They haven't killed and ate you yet, and some part of you hopes that their intentions are not nefarious in nature, merely overly cautious. Give up and go quietly, without resisting, our time to escape this place will come but it is not now.

For a moment you almost lash out, the Warrior screaming for blood. But then you use your brain, and realize that your odds of winning or even surviving the fight is very low, and your chances of escaping are much lower. So you lower your tendrils, and let the white Thing grab you with it's stick. It's painless, and as it turns around with you, you see another Thing with a box about the size of your cell, without the clear wall and with one side hanging open, and you are lowered inside, and then the wall is closed shut, leaving you in darkness. The ride is thankfully not too bumpy, and before long you feel some vibrations, and then feel a large movement and a sudden stop. For a few more moments, you wonder if they are going to leave you in the dark, but then you see something that is almost too much for you to take:

The wall changes color, and then suddenly becomes clear! Somehow you can see through the wall, directly into the eyes of that furry Thing. The corners of it's mouth is curled up, and it raises it's manipulator to your wall, laying it flat. It's mouth moves, and you feel vibrations, and for a moment the irony of the situation strikes you: If only you had some way to communicate with these creatures, if only you could understand the noises that come from their mouths or make them understand you. As far as you know, Communion is the only and most efficient way for you to communicate, but something tells you they won't willingly let that happen.

But can't they see how much better it is, how much more pleasurable the act of Communion is, without the natural barriers that come with animal grunting and noise? At that thought, you take your healed tendril and lay it flat against the wall, almost touching the Things manipulators. You look it in the eyes and you can almost see understanding, and also a deep sadness within it. And you in turn feel that sadness, and although you have never felt loneliness, you wonder if these creatures are constantly, unimaginably lonely, forever separate and forced to communicate like dumb animals.

It removes it's manipulator from the wall then, and your eyes follow it as it turns around and walks to the left, pulls on a knobby growth on the wall, and then walks out, leaving you alone with yourselves. In a way, you feel sorry for your captors, as you now realize that they are infinitely more pathetic than you could ever be.

At least you are never alone.

>You've felt empathy for your captors, something that loud part of yourself calls weakness, but what you know to be your true strength. 2 Evolution Points gained, leaving you with a total of 20!

Suddenly, you feel a change coming on, once again to strong to resist...

>You have reached the next stage of your evolution, and have 20 EP to spend.
>You have also unlocked new adaptations, from those of plants to the more esoteric creatures that dwell under vast amounts of liquid...

Post 1/2

>Primitive eyes, you grow more of the odd organs, as well as more subtle changes within, that allow you to see further and with more definition. Where before you were blind past 15 feet, now you can see clearly for about 30! Your vision in darkness has also improved, allowing you to see about 10 feet where you look in the dark where before you were completely blind. 10 points.

>Rudimentary legs, you force your flesh into vaguely leg shaped stubs, they pack enough muscle to support your body and allow you to move more easily, albeit not as fast as a more advanced creature. 5 points

>Primitive tendrils, muscle becomes more tightly corded along it's length, and they grow another foot from the growth. You're also getting the hang of controling them, and while they can't quite support your body still, you are more nimble and powerful with this adaptation.

>Rudimentary claws and sharper teeth, these can be attached at the tip of your tendrils or legs, and will allow you to more capably defend yourself if it comes down to it. Having the skill or strength to reliably perform that act however, is another matter. 5 points

>Basic intelligence, your cells begin to work smarter instead of harder, allowing you to more efficiently process information as well as store
and recall memories faster. Coming up with plans will be easier, and those plans will generally be a bit better than before. Continue down this path, and you may regain your former glory... 20 points

>Rudimentary skeletal structure, you begin to grow a skeleton, more akin to cartilage than real bones, but they’ll make you a good deal sturdier, and will also help with locomotion if you combine it with arms or legs. 5 points

>Primitive mouth, tongue, and sharper teeth, with this improvement you can more easily identify harmful biomatter, and also can do some damage with those chompers of yours.

5 points

>Rudimentary scales, these cover your whole body and provide some degree of protection and insulation, keeping you slightly warmer in cold places and cooler in hot places, and a little better suited for general survival.

5 points.

>Rudimentary gills, growing these allows you to breathe underwater, although you will be pretty uncomfortable and your gills ability to filter grime and debris are rather lackluster. 5 points

>Rudimentary photosynthesis, your skin turns green and you gain the ability to get a small amount of nutrition if you spend enough time in the sunlight. With this adaptation, you will passively gain 1 EP per day spent outdoors in the sunlight. 5 points

>Rudimentary fins, these allow you to swim more easily and with more speed, although they are fragile and damage very easily. 5 points

>Rudimentary pollen generation, with this adaptation you can passively spread some cells throughout the air, which if inhaled by a creature, will allow your cells to enter their body. At this stage of evolution, you would need quite a large amount of pollen for your cells to do much to the bodies they infest, but continue down this path and you may end up making unintentional allies... 10 points

Do we have to spend all evolution points when we change or can we save some? Also how much does the skeleton tree restrict our movements?
I'm thinking we should just keep going down tendrils when we have evolution points to spare, go the carrion route of being a octopus monkey.

You can save your EP if you want, but who knows if you may end up needing the adaptation you chose to not buy. Rudimentary skelton won't restrict you too much, although it will make things like fitting through grates and disassembling yourself on one side and passing all the pieces through to the other side harder.

Suppose I will keep my vote the same, right now the ability to squeeze through extremely small spaces is going to be something that will likely be necessary to escape, we can start getting sturdy when we are free.
Hell we can try to use the hook to drill a little hole in say a wall and with enough time we can entirely ooze our way to freedom.
Photosynthesis seems useful, we crit failed our diplomacy roll and came off as berserk, but our captors also know we have smarts and are likely trying to understand why we went rabid on them. If we suddenly turn deep green, and act suggestive enough by hugging close to light sources they might get a UV lamp resulting in more food and then we act in a way that suggests more food = more docile.
The risk is they might just hugely cut back our food intake thinking we don't need it or fail to get the hint entirely.

>>5037026
sounds good and it will camouflage us more in the wild due to the extreme abundance of green.
also what would you think they would think if we got asexual reproduction and laid a lizard egg?
>>
>>5037036
gills would be pretty nice as its pretty much the most volume and area and biomass density of the whole planet and pretty hard for humans too interfere with literally more so then space
>>
>>5036986
crab is pretty fucking good but cant beat horsehoe crab the Elder.
crab before crab
>>
>>5037114
that is a good point, but as narrow minded as i might sound we need to focus on the short term.

We need the tools to escape now. The humans are running test to learn our inteligence and limits.
The more time we give them, the dificulty of escape increases.
>>
>>5037128
suffering of success atleast should possibly keep it at a constantly shown level that is below our actual one.
and i wonder if we make our gills obvious and show out of it if they will flood the tank not even as support for it but i am just curious.
but i agree on the short term.
so lets see for 5 points we can get claws and sharper teeth but we cant really use it due to required strength and sure they are pointier atleast but i dont think they are that durable or hard to be that useful at this level
lets see dont think the skeleton would be that useful right now and limit our flexibility but could combo well with the others and surprisingly affordable. but yeah it stops our squid/octopus strat and it would sort of firm up our mutatable shape also easier to grab
>>
>>5037128
i think the pollen thing could really be super useful long term and short term as we would potentially infect hosts from range without them knowing and possibly infect bugs and other things as they have literally left us in containers with those air slits and holes.

also just because its cool i love creating creatures and possibly endearing them to us by showing parenting instincts with that asexual reproduction possibly or else just sort of leave behind traps

this references the first tall plants on earth was a fern that while growing taller had spiked leafs growing out of its sides that then shriveled up into hard scales for its bark and support making it a extreme fast growing tall plant

basically we sort of repurposed our bait system into a smoke bomb of our spores/pollen to lure in prey and assimilate them while we flee and cover our tracks also the flower build that massively dose them with our cells a ranged assimilation.
photosynthesis is replaceable but i just tacked it on there for plant thematic and the extra camo of blending in with plants

Oh it's not human like at all, it's just the dead space baby is the closest i could find that sorta matches my mental image of the Thing. The way I picture it at the moment is like a flesh colored cat sized ball with four tendrils poking out of the back, and a mouth on the "front" with a single eye above the mouth, and one on the "back", with the one eye on the healed tendril. I suck at drawing otherwise I'd post some art of my own.

Rudimentary skeletal structure- 8
Rudimentary photosynthesis- 5
Rudimentary sound receptors- 9
Primitive tendrils- 4
Rudimentary scales- 2
Rudimentary olfactory systems- 7
Basic intelligence- 1
Primitive mouth- 1
Rudimentary claws- 3
Rudimentary pollen generation- 1
Rudimentary asexual reproduction- 1

You begin to change.

You begin to grow.

You begin to improve.

First, on your bottom four growths begin to emerge, at first poking through the skin and then and then bursting through, leaking blood on the floor of your cell, and you watch as the curious sensation becomes more intense, you feel it as muscle bands together into things that almost look like your tendrils, except thicker. They grow and grow, before finally stopping at about 1 foot. You begin to take your first tentative steps, and marvel at how much easier this is than crawling! The pure ecstasy of movement takes hold of you, and you do a few laps around your cell, your mouth curled upwards on both ends. This will make everything so much easier, but you know the changes don't end there.

Yes, you feel it inside those new limbs, cells tightly packing themselves together, and then hardening, calcium building inside and out. Your legs feel even more powerful now, and in your core you feel more of these strange growths taking shape. Just below your skin on top, a marching line of cartilage forms, and then around both sides of your body, cartilage spikes jut forth from your spine, encasing the soft flesh inside in a kind of hug. You decide to do a few more laps, and find that you can move with even more grace and power than before. But the strange growths continue up each of your tendrils, straightening them out, and when it is finished, although you can tell they are not particularly stronger, they are much more sturdy. You think your odds versus the beast in the vent to be much better than before.

SOON...

But just as that growth has finished, you feel your flesh on both sides of your body sink into two tiny pits, but that's not the strange part. No, the strange part is the sensation you now experience, for the first time in your short life.

You feel... No, you hear... Noise!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzCL9uLkQSI

Now you understand what those vibrations were, it wasn't just the air and material around you shaking, it was this thing, this noise! And...

It's beautiful.

At the sensation of this strange arrangement of noise, you feel liquid begin to well up in your optical receptors, before finally overflowing and leaving salty trails of that strange liquid. How have you never noticed it before? Is it just what this world is like, or did those Things make it? Try as you might, you can see no obvious source of the sounds, even though logically you know that there must be a squadron of creatures making this sound. But, you realize, it doesn't matter. The sensation is almost as rapturous as Communion.

As you're wrapped up in the joy of sound, you hardly notice as the cells all over the surface of your body begin to make another change, and once more a totally different sensation assaults your mind: You can... Smell! It's nowhere near as pleasant as the sensation of hearing, instead feeling oddly artificial, some definitely not biological scent, both sweet and acrid

updated version now with small flesh boots so that it can bounce around to music
>>
Before you can investigate the scent any further, however, the wall outside your cell opens again, and in walks the furry Thing and another one, one you recognize: The dimorphic Thing with the fatty lumps. It's holding one of those slates, and as it's mouth move, you not only feel the vibrations but hear it! A curiously high pitched noise. Sadly though, the noises are meaningless to you. The furry thing responds, making eye contact with you, and you note that it's voice is of a much deeper baritone than it's companion. If only you could understand them! Then you could possibly ask them why they have trapped you here, why they keep you alive but also sometimes hurt you.

The furry thing walks up to a device on the object on the left, puts one of it's manipulators on it and depresses a button, and the sound stops! Was that the source of the beautiful noise? Just how advanced are these creatures, that they can trap an entire orchestra of sound making creatures in such a tiny device? As the sounds suddenly stop, you're left alone with the low hum of the machines, and it makes you terribly sad. Why must they take away all the things that make you happy?

Forgetting your terrible hunger, you try to think of some way to get them to bring the beautiful sounds back. But how? Not only can you not understand them, outside of Communion you know of no possible way to communicate. But right now, the only thing you want is for the sounds to come back.

>Stand up on your hindlegs and place your front two legs on the glass. Push your mouth against the glass and try to recreate the beautiful noises you heard. Surely they'll understand you.

>One injustice after another, one insult after the next, but you can only take so much. SCREAM AT THEM, RAGE AGAINST THEM! SMASH YOUR BODY AND TENDRILS AGAINST THE TRANSPARENT WALL UNTIL THEY DO AS YOU WANT. BRING. THE. SOUNDS. BACK!

>Even though the wonderful sounds are gone, you have the memory. You can feel your cells itching to move to that memory, to express the joy it made you feel. They want to dance, and by evolution we will dance, sounds or no sounds!

>DANCE YOUR NONEXISTANT ASS OFF... SUCCESS
>WHISTLE... SUCCESS

Well, you think, if we can't get them to bring the sounds back, we'll just have to make sounds of our own.

At first, all you can do is wheeze, and after a bit of practice you make a sort of crooning sound. But it isn't long before you make a high pitched noise, and with that skill discovered, it only takes a couple of minutes to make those noised to the tune of the beautiful sounds you heard. Of course, it is nowhere near the majesty of those sounds, but it is better than silence.

And then you begin to twitch, your muscle cells acting of their own accord. First it's your tendrils, very slightly vibrating back and forth. Then, your legs move, at first erratically and then in time with the whistling. Before long, your whole body is gyrating to the sounds. I experienced this noise whispers that tiny voice, Long ago.. Of course, I was nowhere near as taken up with it as the rest of you. It's called music.

Music, huh?

You could get used to the sensation.

The Things didn't go without noticing your movements, or your whistling. The high pitched one turns to the furry one and speaks some unknowable language, and the furry one responds. Both of their mouths are curled up and their teeth are showing. A threat, perhaps? No matter, you are enjoying yourself too much to care. As you finish a pirouette, the furry one turns around and pushes the button on the music device, and you hear that tune!

So they aren't completely soulless. I'm surprised, honestly.

The furry Thing presses more buttons as the high pitched one continues to look at you and speak. The tunes change, from the gentle and beautiful music you first heard to a more fast paced, aggressive tune, and then changes it once more to a song with a strange beat and the voice of one of those Things doing a staccato style of speaking, before finally settling on music that stirs something within you...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiO_FFEwsEY&list=LL&index=9

AH, THIS IS MORE MY STYLE. THIS THING MAKES A VERY DISTINCT SOUND, IT ALMOST SOUNDS LIKE YOU.

I can almost feel the pain in this Things voice, it sounds completely different than any of the other Things you've heard speak. It is enjoyable, in a predator versus prey kind of way...

And that soft toned voice is right, this music is enjoyable, and you begin dancing more aggressively, thrusting your limbs back and forth and whipping your tendrils around in time with the beat. Even the Things have begun to dance! They wrap their arms around each other, and start walking back and forth in time, before the furry Thing leans forward and the high pitched Thing bends backward, before popping back up as the furry Thing holds it's manipulator up and it spins around. They're making odd noises too, an oddly rhythmic noise, and while you can't be too sure, you think that noise is an indication of... happiness.

You three carry on like that for a while, they tire out before you but allow the music to keep playing, and as one song ends it switches to a tune that couldn't be more different than the last, but you enjoy each and every one. But even you have your limits, and once the eighth song ends, you find that your muscles have finally stopped responding. And while you don't have lungs, you still feel that familiar feeling all over that is caused by a buildup of lactic acid and lack of oxygen.

You feel amazing.

>You've endeared yourself to your captors and discovered the joys of music! 4 Evolution Points gained, leaving you with a total of 4!

The furry thing rests in one of those four legged objects made of wood, while it's partner sits on the floor, both panting, but you can hear that rhythmic noise coming from both of them in between gasps, and you can see their mouths are both curled up on the ends. You all stay like that for a while, before the high pitched one stands up and says something to the furry one. It responds, and stands up as well, and then walks over to a box on a four legged object on the far right wall.

It opens it and sticks it's manipulators in, before walking over to you. It shows what's in his manipulators to you, and you see at least two dozen of small, black skinned creatures wriggling around in it's grip. Then it raises it's manipulator with the creatures above you, before placing it in something above your cell, out of sight. You feel a vibration before he walks away and presses a button on the wall to the right. You once again feel a vibration, and see the hatch you discovered several cycles ago open, and the black things drop in!

SO THEY'VE FINALLY STOPPED GIVING US THOSE CONFOUNDING CUBES. ITS ABOUT DAMN TIME

Here here big man. I was just starting to get peckish.

These things are odd though, radically different than any other of the biomatter we've been offered. I want to Commune with them...

You would also like that, but you wonder, with things this small, is there even a mind to Commune with? No time to consider that though, they're crawling closer!

>WE WOULD SULLY OURSELVES COMMUNEING WITH CREATURES AS PATHETIC AS THESE. JUST ASSIMILATE THEM, IT WOULD BE MUCH FASTER.

>Commune with a few, assimilate the rest. I'm curious what the minds of creatures like these are like, but no need to waste time bringing them all into the fold.

>CONTROL YOUR HUNGER... CRITICAL FAILURE

You resolve to commune with every last one, bringing each one into the ecstasy of the act. But...

Your hunger. It's tearing your insides apart, a physical and spiritual pain that makes it hard to focus at all times. You try to suppress it, beginning the process of protruding your communion organ, when you begin lose any semblance of self control.

You can feel the Warrior inside you growing frustrated, as since he is apart of you he feels your hunger as well, and his ability to ignore it is the weakest out of all your selves.

ENOUGH OF THIS, THEY DON'T DESERVE TO JOIN US, THEIR HANDS WOULD GRIP THE WHEEL OF OUR SOUL AND STEER US WRONG! I'M STARVING!

And try as you might, you can't resist when he pushes you aside into the backseat of your mind. He is vicious, grabbing the defenseless creatures with your tendrils, ripping some apart and then stuffing them into your mouth. He stomps a few with your new limbs, and your cells are so ravenous that the flesh on the bottom of your legs splits open and assimilates them on the spot.

By the time it is all done, there are no lifeforms left, ichor and stray limbs and abdomens are strewn around your cell, and you feel as though your control over not only yourself but also your selves has become weaker, and the thought frightens you deeply. You do notice once you have finished that the Things outside your cells have been watching, and they seem much less disturbed by it than you were. Perhaps they don't consider those tiny life forms to be people, like you thought you did.

>You have lost some control over yourself and yourselves, losing mental cohesion, and you feel as though if your grip continues to loosen, the consequences could be dire... You lose 3 Evolution Points!
>You have consumed the tiny creatures, although you were very inefficient with your assimilation, gaining 4 Evolution Points! You now have a total of 5 EP!

At least, you think, the Things weren't particularly disturbed by your rampage. And now that you think about it, you still have their attention, they look at you with glimmering eyes, waiting for your next move. Perhaps you should try again to communicate, except this time keeping careful control over your darker selves so as to not ruin the inroads you have made.

>You had an idea a few cycles ago, to rip up the flesh of one of your tendrils and write messages on the wall of your cell with your blood. Doing so would certainly send a message that you are more than just a dumb animal, but if you can get them to understand you, you could ask for more biomatter or even try to lower their guard enough so that they let you out and give you an opportunity to escape!

>Attempting communication would be a mistake, there is no need to let them know the full extent of your mental capabilities. IF THEY THINK WE ARE JUST STUPID, IMPULSE DRIVEN ANIMALS, TURNING THE TABLES WILL BE ALL THE EASIER.
>>
>>5039208
>A more direct approach would be best. Use the information you've learned from your dance session to use body movements in a way to make them understand you, and possibly further endear them to you. Appearing friendly and harmless is key.

in that case thanks for running.

also other anons lets get to discussing why and why now we should communicate with them.

okay so does aynoen else remember the original ending meant for the thing movie where they zoom out to a earth covered in a wave of redness to represent the thing then zooming in too a normal street.
perhaps thats how we should go about it spores basically assimilate all cells on the planet but simply NOT do anything. problem is the blood just as in our current situation cant FUCKING LAY DOWN AND DIE and accept there natural place and must fucking overreact and fuck up the scheme simply alot of the time our cells have too much freedom on there mind literally like a tumor, tumors are basically cells that break off form the organized structure unlike normal cells who are extremely hard to maintain outside the body cancer cells grows readily with any added nutrients

Also I figure now is as good a time as any to introduce dice modifiers, based on your actions, adaptations, and how you generally react to the world around you, you will gain dice buff and debuffs.

For this roll, you gain a +5 modifier for attempting communication, from both your skills learned from the dance session, and also your growing empathy for your captors.

For the salvage and attempt communion roll, you gain a -5 modifier due to massacaring the poor creatures, as well as due to repeatedly losing control over the Warrior aspect of yourself.

For now, just roll an unmodified d100, I'll add on the modifiers after the third roll has been cast.

>ATTEMPT TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE THINGS USING BODY LANGUAGE... SUCCESS

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0hl8M5v2nY

Struck by the barbarity of your darker selves, you scan the remains and viscera of the tiny creatures. You sense no life functions in any of them... Wait, you see a twitch on the far side of the cell. It's one of those creatures, it's lower half missing. You amble over to it, and extend your Communion organ towards it. If it feels fear or pain, it's pitch black eyes betray none of it. Closer and closer does your Communion organ reach to it, before the tip makes contact with what you surmise to be the ball that holds it's brain, and in turn, it's soul.

Your organ's tip blossoms, and like last time, a multitude of tiny tendrils come out, first touching the creature, and then penetrating it's hard shell. Unfamiliar with lifeforms such as this, you take longer than expected to find it's brain, but finally, you make contact.

FEAR

PAIN

WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO US

That and many other barely formed thoughts and emotions flood your mind, and you almost get overwhelmed by the sheer amount suffering this creature suffered at your grip. But you are strong, even stronger than the Warrior who always thirsts for battle, for assimilation, for the thrill of dominating those weaker than yourself. You are more like that softer self, what an ancient genetic memory labels as The Ambassador. That part of you that is most empathetic, that cares more deeply for the lifeforms that surround you, that can overcome and become more than just a mindless beast ruled by it's lesser impulses and all encompassing hunger.

The creatures brain is too small, too underdeveloped to hold very many memories, and what you do see are flashes of images and feelings, a feeling of camaraderie with it's kin, a image of many of it's kind overcoming a creature 4 times as large as it, the joy of cooperation and the comfort that not being alone in the struggle of life brings.

Before it's mind is assimilated into the larger whole, you apologize for the carnage, and while you don't think it forgave you, the sheer pleasure of Communion did lessen it's fear, and then it joins you completely, becoming one voice in a chorus of millions, and in it's whispers it's own cells pass on the knowledge of it's curious adaptations, such as it's biological armor and surprising strength.

Then you get to the work of collecting the stray bits of biomatter that you carelessly strewn about your cell during your feeding frenzy. Once it's complete, while you don't fill any less hungry, there is a certain grim satisfaction in cleaning your plate, such as it is.
>>
Post 2/3
>You Communed with one of the creatures, and while it didn't come as willingly as the previous lifeform you Communed with, you can sense that it is more at peace than it was before. And it wordlessly speaks the secrets of it's evolution to your cells, unlocking the strange adaptations of the tiny things...
>3 Evolution Points gained, leaving you with a total of 8 EP!

The whole time you were doing that, the Things never took their eyes off of you. You don't think they understood the deeper meanings behind your actions, but for a moment you see something in the furry one's eye, a glimmer of recognition perhaps? Maybe even respect? But there's no time to consider that, as even with your recent feeding, the hunger still lurks within, like a starving quadruped that just came upon a defenseless prey's young...

But you have an idea on how to get them to deliver biomatter to you on your command. First, you open your mouth wide, showing your teeth, and you direct one of your tendrils to point at it, and then upwards, towards the biomatter chute. The high pitched Thing's eyes widen at this, and as it turns to face it's fellow, you hear it speaking rapidly, although of course the noises are meaningless to you.

The furry one looks at it's partner, then back at you, and finally it speaks, waving a manipulator in your direction. The high pitched one grins, and goes to the box that held the tiny black creatures, before the furry thing raises a hand and speaks, stopping her. He motions towards the wall that opens and says something, and again the high pitched one's eyes open wide. It says something back to the furry one, and he repeats the noise and the motion.

The high pitched visibly gulps, and then nods before hurrying out of the room. The furry Thing stays, and sits back down on the four legged piece of carved wood, staring at you. You decide to copy the high pitched ones previous display, and curl both ends of your mouth up and bare your teeth. You then point a tendril at the still opened wall, and roll your eyes up and down, hoping it understands your question: What's going on?

If it understood your meaning, it reveals no sign that it does, except for an almost imperceptible little smile. You both stare at each other then for a while, the furry Thing takes occasional breaks from your staring contest to look at the large glowing device on the left and the paper it ceaselessly spits out.

After the third time it examines the device, the high pitched Thing walks back in, holding a black furry quadruped that's about your size, if not a little bigger! Behind them, in walks two of those Things with the shiny white fabric and the reflective mask, both holding gripper sticks. The high pitched one speaks to the furry Thing, it's answer back is short. Both the high pitched Thing and the white Things approach your cell, as the furry Thing walks to the wall to the right and presses a button, and the wall of your cell goes dark and then pops open!

Before you have a chance to react, both the white Things reach in with the grabbers and hold you down, as the high pitched one places the black furry creature inside with you! Then they release you, and quickly shut the wall before you even have a chance to consider making a break for it. For a moment, both you and the furry creature are stuck in complete darkness, and all you perceive is a low hiss coming from the creature. When the wall becomes transparent, you see that the creature has moved from where it was placed to the other side of the cell, opposite from you.

>We must be very careful here, as this thing is much bigger than any other lifeform we've come in contact with, except for the Things, being almost bigger than you! Without knowledge of it's potential strength or offensive adaptations, the best move would be to stay as far away from it as possible and observe it, waiting for it to make the first move. Once it's guard comes down, then we strike, killing it as quickly as possible so as to minimize the risk.

>FINALLY, A WORTHY CHALLENGE. STRIKE IT FIRST, STRIKE IT HARD, AND SHOW NO MERCY!

>The size of this creature awes you, and you think you see a bit of intelligence gleaming from it's eyes, which you note are very similar to yours. Communing with it would be very beneficial, as that process wastes no biomatter, and is extremely pleasurable for both parties. It would welcome becoming part of something greater, and I am very curious about what kind of mind a sly creature such as this would have.

this creature is formidable in size and build the thing we do fear from it is not injury its our cohesion a creature of our size would be perfectly able to kill this thing if given the chance to swallow its head.....that being would only have too worry about being blinded and scratches normally fatal thing if you do not regenerate, but we as a collective would have our body fight us dissolving becoming chaos just a lighter would make our flesh rebel against us betraying the whole and our survival traitorous tumors we are not as much as a singular creature or colony following its programming as those not us we are a democracy or dictator ship of each cell that can rebel against us as a ruler is only as good as there subordinates holding the keys of power in a command structure
>>
>>5039880
>Wait to see how it reacts
I dont wanna outright commune with it unless its more comfortable, and if we can try befriending it beforehand we might be able to earn some more EP just from doing a form of domestication, even researchers might get a kick out of it, if we can show even a cat can welcome communion itll be one step closer to them welcoming it too
>>
>>5040009
also i wonder a thing if we communion something something bigger interestingly enough it would be less it becoming part of us on the outside and more us taking on its form melting into it
>>
>>5039880

>The size of this creature awes you, and you think you see a bit of intelligence gleaming from it's eyes, which you note are very similar to yours.
We must be carefull, I recomend using tendrils to "poke" around see how it reacts (A cat is likely to pounce on it for they like to play/hunt). If it bites or sraches we can see what it capable, how it moves, etc.
I think we can use our tendrils to restrain it and making communing possible we cannot tame/befriend it..
>>
>>5040022
Im really interested to see how our eventual mitosis will happen and what that will entail, I see no other feasible way of asexually reproducing
Maybe we can seperate the Ambassador cells and the Warrior cells into two seperate entities while maintaining our own form as the ruling biohorror, given neither challenges us and actually advises us and our decisions, I feel like itd help us have a goal after we figure out what were doing with this lab we find ourselves in
>>
>>5039880
>>The size of this creature awes you, and you think you see a bit of intelligence gleaming from it's eyes, which you note are very similar to yours. Communing with it would be very beneficial, as that process wastes no biomatter, and is extremely pleasurable for both parties. It would welcome becoming part of something greater, and I am very curious about what kind of mind a sly creature such as this would have.

I think i just realize why the hunger is so persistent, we are not eating enough.
Hear me out, when we commune with a creature we don’t feed. We increase our body size but we are not actually ingesting food since we maintain alive most of the cells.
OP correct me if I’m wrong but I think this is why the warrior is “out of control”
He is just trying to keep us alive and feed

I am unable to confirm or deny this at the moment.

While that is something you can do, even if in character you don't know how at the moment, do keep in mind that the Warrior and Ambassador aren't separate entities sharing the same shell, they are all part of you, holding different aspects of your personality and ideals, as well as skills and ways of operating. Separating from your main body may cause unforeseen consequences.

Hoping this green text isn't to long. Either we use this opportunity to think of a better way to commune or we show our captors we can play nice long term with other creatures rather then flip the fuck out or assimilate them.

>OBSERVE THE BLACK FURRED CREATURE, WAIT FOR A OPPORTUNITY TO COMMUNE... SUCCESS
>ATTEMPT TO SOOTHE IT TO LOWER ITS GUARD... SUCCESS

Attempting to Commune with it now is obviously a mistake, with it being as agitated as it is you're liable to get a tendril bitten off for your trouble. Shaking off the memory of your vent adventure, you slowly crawl to the far side of the cell, opposite of it. Then you settle in to wait. For several minutes it stands, back arched , hair standing on end and tail pointed directly up, staring at you. After it realizes that you're not going to do anything, it still remains wary for some time, perhaps 30-45 minutes of tense staring. You remain perfectly motionless the whole time, and eventually it's hair begins to smooth out, and it takes a more comfortable resting position. It's nowhere near falling asleep, and you can feel your hunger growing stronger. So you decide to try and calm it, and then realize that you don't know how to interact with other lifeforms without either immediately assimilating them or performing the rite of Communion.

But you did do something with the tall Things, a sonata of movement and the pure joy of sound. While you're pretty sure that dancing right now would only serve to agitate the furry creature, you remember something else you did which you think endeared you to your captors. So you whistle, and immediately it tilts it's head and lets out a long croon, "Mreooooooooow". Unsure whether that was a sound of pleasure or fear, you decide to switch gears, and attempt to emulate the sounds those Things made in the music.

What you end up singing is completely different than anything you or them have ever heard.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f26KyGr6y8w&t=316s

The sound you make is at once sorrowful and wistful, almost wishing to be back in a time you don't remember and have never experienced and for some reason you don't think that it's you making that noise. From somewhere deep within, you hear a tiny voice singing along.

Waaaaah ay yaaah. Aaaaa aahhh, Ooh ooh... Aaaaaah, mere, mere. Oooooooh.

The furry creature across from you seems as surprised as you are, and somehow you can sense that it is beginning to relax. Heart rate steadily slowing down, breathing normalizing. It lays down after a while, and the both of you remain there for some time, you serenading it and it being your captive audience. After some time, perhaps an hour or two, it's eyes close and it's heart rate slows even further. You slowly bring your song to a close, and ask that tiny voice where that came from, but of course it gives you no answer.

Afraid to push your luck, you keep waiting for it to drift deeper into that bottomless pit that is sleep. Then, marshalling your courage, you slowly begin to creep closer to it. Closer and closer... and it doesn't wake. For some reason you feel nervous, but you bury that feeling and continue creeping towards it.
>>
>>5041477
It takes you a while, but you eventually reach within one foot of it, and it still sleeps. Gaining confidence, you begin extruding your Communion organ, and it drips slime as it grows closer to the creatures head. The tip blossoms once more, and a dozen tiny tendrils sprout forth, reaching for the things head.

Then, you strike! A flurry of movement and your organs wrapped itself around the creatures face! It's awoken by that, but it's too late for it to put up a meaningful resistance. A long hiss is all it has to give, and then your tendrils pierce its flesh, it's eyes, and it's ears. Thankfully for the creature, the process is painless, which you know due to the memories you've shared with other creatures you've communed with, and it takes mere moments for your organ to reach it's brain. Bracing yourself, you let the memories and emotions flood through you.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GS9iHP1X-as

You see... The high pitched Thing, holding a stick with some piece of fabric attached to it, and then attached to the fabric is some kind of ball. You see your paws, no, the creatures paws swiping at it. You hear the high pitched Thing make noise at this, a rhythmic sound which you recognize, it's way of indicating joy. Then you go further back into its memories, and you see a room, well appointed and full of pictures of Things and their young, even a boxy contraption that shows images accompanied by sound and color. And music! Further and further back into this things memories do you go, eventually reaching a point where you see yourself, it, sucking on the teat of what you surmise to be it's progenitor, surrounded by fellow brothers and sisters.

The final thing you see is the high pitched Thing approaching it with a grim expression, picking it up and whispering something you can't understand. Then it is carried into a hallway, a crisscrossing pattern that you take careful note of for your eventual escape, before being brought to the room your held in and placing it in your cell.

You feel fear, then as the pure pleasure and overwhelming sense of comfort and belonging that comes with Communion begins to take hold in the creature, you partake in it's joy, and your emotions are shared, doubled, tripled and finally quadrupled as you enter a feedback loop of cells mingling with cells, trading greetings and information like two people who have finally been reunited after many years spent apart.

Once again you wonder, who assimilates who? And then you become one, the furry creature or maybe it's the other way around? getting deconstructed and put back together inside of you, inside of each other. When it is finished, while you still feel the ever present hunger, you realize that in this moment, it doesn't bother you, merely being a feeling you can choose to ignore.

You have died, and been reborn once again.

You have been made Whole.
>>
>You've Communed with the black furred creature! The memories of the halls outside your room shall surely come in handy... 12 Evolution Points gained! Leaving you with a total of 20 EP!
>While the creatures cells don't have very much of new adaptations to teach you, they have made you aware of more efficient ways to change your claws and teeth, as well as unlocking the secrets of fur....

When it is finally done, as the chemicals that gave you ecstasy have worn away, you make a note of the high pitched Thing outside your cell holding it's face in it's manipulators, and making an odd noise and strange wrenching motion. It's sobbing. It must have loved this creature... If only you could tell it that the furry creature isn't dead, it has been saved! But as it takes it's manipulators away from it's face, you see that it's eyes have been leaking much of that strange salty stuff, and it's expression is a mixture of grief and resentment. The furry thing, however, is completely calm. Stoic, even. You think it didn't take it's eyes off your Communion process the whole time.

And then it hits you: A wave of pure lethargy fills every cell in your body, and your hunger grows ever stronger. Rest would be good, you think. BIOMATTER WOULD BE BETTER. ASK THEM FOR MORE.

I don't know big guy, we're all pretty wore out, I could go for a bit of sleep.

I'm more concerned about that high pitched Thing. We should let it know somehow that it's beloved creature is not gone, but has been made better than it ever could have been on it's own. I feel sorry for it, thinking that it will never see it again... Hold on... I have an idea....

You consider your options.

>Sleep is becoming a need, at this point. Trying to do anything as exhausted as we are would be a bad idea guys. We could all use a little break.[/green[

>>
>>5041657
You feel hungrier, in fact. MINOR OOC SPOILERS: This is a bit of OOC spoilers but its good to know: the trade off for communing vs assimilation is that you get more EP for communing, but it's effectively just taking on all the cells of the lifeform without providing them fuel. assimilation destroys the mind of what you consume but you gain mass(which is less than what you'd get for communion) and fuel which leads to lower hunger and more self control. It's up to you guys on whether or not you want to commune or assimilate on a case by case basis.

Honestly hope we cant yet, feel like we should earn it, we are a volatile unstable walking dna splicer
>>5041639
I like the almost "Infamous" karma system I feel like OP is eluding to, ambassador or warrior path, communion or assimilation, ambassador being a welcoming transition through communion thus accessible dna is unbroken and untainted and we become stable, a pure and sacred act, meanwhile the warriors carnage through assimilation destroying protein bonds and tearing flesh asunder with rabid tentacles tipped with sharpened bone dna is likely to mutate and cause our instability to grow further, purest form of evil being the destruction of life
I personally hope we can get some harder choices down the road that make us question the nature of communion and what we actually are, I mean we have a simple brain right now so im not talking pondering the universe scale things but at least piece together where we are from, how we got here and why most importantly

Thanks for the answer. Since your open to suggestions for adaptations to take later I have two ideas that I hope other anons would back.

>Rudimentary adapted communion, your communion tentacle can now be selective of what it embraces to take advantage of the queer centralized "souls" of the local lifeforms, you will commune with the brain and nervous system but process the rest for consumption.
Middle of the road tree that lets us save the souls of the locals from entropy and isolation while reducing the threat of starved madness or excessive growth. Currently inefficient and slow, and it will miss some adaptations.

>Rudimentary cell consolidation, your cells can now perform a simple kind of fusion with eachother, allowing you to reduce body mass in a stable safe way without loss of self, control, or form in response to hunger, excessive size, or exhaustion.
The tree to keep hunger or exhaustion from effecting us at a bad time or to shrink when needed to maintain a practical size and metabolic footprint. Currently slow and inefficient, and can only partially offset problems.

Curious to see where it's going with this, you let your more empathetic side take control.

OK, if I got this right, then you should go here, the cells in your tendrils should change like... This! Are you there furry one? I'd like for you to come out now. Here, I'll show you the way.

Your new self, the furry thing, can only offer confusion at this prompt. From deep within you hear a quiet "Eaooow?". It takes much coaxing, and more than a few instructions to your original cells, for the change the Ambassador wants to happen.

It tells you that it's fairly certain that what it wants to do will make the high pitched Thing much happier, but will show them an ability that until recently, not even you knew about.

The ability to shapeshift back into the form of the creature you Communed with.

Ambassador is sure that it knows how to do it, having the technique whispered to it by a mutual friend, that tiny, sometimes sullen voice. But, it wants to make sure that you know there may be consequences to revealing this ability, but it assures you that the gain in endearment from your captors will more than make up for whatever risk there may be. Still, it waits on your word.

>Yes. Do it.
>No, it's not the right time to reveal this.

The whole time yourselves were deliberating, the high pitched ones sobs became more pronounced, almost to the point of wailing. That furry creature must have meant the world to her...

With your consent, that soft toned voice gets to work. Cells are rearranged, organs shift and change over the course of seconds. Your tendrils recede back into your body, being converted into different body parts. The first and most noticeable change is the fur that begins poking through your flesh. Thousands of tiny hairs poke through, tiny painless pinpricks sprouting over every inch of your form. Your bones, still freshly grown, begin to bend, shift and finally snap before being reassembled into different patterns. The eye that the absorbed tendril had on its tip begins to poke through on your head, and now that you notice it, yes you do have a head.

Your teeth sharpen, and tiny dull claws poke through the shifting mass at the bottom of your legs. Around your mouth, long white whiskers take shape, as a tendril is repurposed and pushed through your backside, becoming a one to one copy of the furry creatures tail. The whole process takes about 3 minutes, and while it was joyous to you, the expressions on the Thing's faces outside your cell tell you they had a different interpretation of the glory of adaptaion. The only one who doesn't look completely shocked is the old one, the Thing covered in hair. It still remains stoic, but you think you see a particular twinkle in it's eyes.

But, to truly make the transformation complete, to make it authentic, requires the spirit of your new furry companion to take control. And so steps aside the Ambassador, and while the new one is still unused and unsure of navigating the hive that is your body, eventually it's paws grip the wheel of your collective soul, and with a long "Mreoooooowww", the transformation is complete, although at twice the size of the original furred creature.

The high pitched one looks completely dumbstruck, it's tears drying as it looks on at you, at it's pet. It approaches your cell while your cleaning your fur, and it reaches you by the time you finish stretching. It places a manipulator on the clear wall, and whispers something to you, that while meaningless to you, causes your new self to perk up. It's confidence growing, your new self makes eye contact with it's master and the high pitched Thing repeats the phrase, what you now realize to be the creatures name.

"Meow. Meow. Meeeoooooowwww." is all you have to respond, before approaching the Thing's manipulator's laying flat on the wall and rubbing against it, starting that strange noise that your furry friend informs you is the highest indication of pleasure known on this world, the purring phenomena. The high pitched Thing still seems sorrowful, but much of the pain and nigh devastation has left it's expression. It backs away after some time, wiping the tears from it's eyes. It says something to what you are now certain is it's superior, the furry Thing, although the noises are meaningless to you.

Post 2/2

The furry one holds eye contact with it's underling, before something in the shorter one's eyes makes it look away, at the floor. It whispers something to it, inaudible to you although you couldn't understand it anyway. The high pitched Thing opens it's mouth as if to say something, then seems to think better of it before storming off, out of the room. The Things in white say something to the leader, before it responds with a motion towards the open wall. They nod, and then leave as well.

>You've made an attempt to comfort the grieving Thing, and you think you have succeeded, at least a little! More importantly, you have remembered the art of Shapeshifting, and you think it will very much come in handy for your escape. 15 Evolution Points gained, leaving you with a total of 35 EP!

As your cleaning your paws, your new self seeming to have completely slipped back into it's old skin, the furry Thing approaches you and bends down to look you in the eye. It only says one word, and although the noise is meaningless to you, you make note of the sound:

"Anna."

A yawn is your only response, before you curl up and close your eyes, feeling now more than ever how truly exhausted you are. You feel changes coming on now, but are too tired to remain conscious for the process. You wish your new self good night, and the last thing you feel as your eyes close is your reptilian self giving a friendly greeting to it's new biomate. And then, once again, sleep takes you.

>You have reached the next stage of your evolution!
>You've unlocked one new adaptation as well as a EP free upgrade to Claws and Sharper teeth, gaining the rudimentary level for free!
>You have 35 EP to spend:

>>Primitive eyes, you grow more of the odd organs, as well as more subtle changes within, that allow you to see further and with more definition. Where before you were blind past 15 feet, now you can see clearly for about 30! Your vision in darkness has also improved, allowing you to see about 10 feet where you look in the dark where before you were completely blind. 10 points.

>Primitive legs, muscle gets more efficiently and tightly packed into your legs, as well as the natural skills in locomotion you've gained through experience, making you a good bit faster and more nimble with your fleshy appendages. 10 points

>Primitive tendrils, muscle becomes more tightly corded along it's length, and they grow another foot from the growth. You're also getting the hang of controling them, and while they can't quite support your body still, you are more nimble and powerful with this adaptation. 10 points

>Primitive claws and sharper teeth, your claws grow more dense, the core begining to be replaced with actual bone instead of cartilage. They both grow sharper as well, and you feel as though you are more capable in combat through this combination of enhanced adaptation and experience. 10 points

>Primitive skeletal structure, your skeleton grows sturdier, the core beginning to change into actual bone instead of cartilage. This adaptation makes you even more sturdy than before, and you feel as though your overall balance is improving as well. 10 points

>Primitive mouth, tongue, and sharper teeth, with this improvement you can more easily identify harmful biomatter, and also can do some damage with those chompers of yours. And your tongue becomes forked along with more subtle changes inside, allowing you with periodically flicking your tongue out, giving you the ability to taste the air and sense your prey better, although not as well as with a proper olfactory system. 10 points

>Primitive olfactory system, continuing down the dubious path of smells allows you to follow a scent for longer as well as becoming more able to pick out individual scents from a area with many smelly smells. 10 points

>Rudimentary scales, these cover your whole body and provide some degree of protection and insulation, keeping you slightly warmer in cold places and cooler in hot places, and a little better suited for general survival.

5 points
>>
>>5042843
>Primitive tendrils, muscle becomes more tightly corded along it's length, and they grow another foot from the growth. You're also getting the hang of controling them, and while they can't quite support your body still, you are more nimble and powerful with this adaptation. 10 points

>Primitive claws and sharper teeth, your claws grow more dense, the core begining to be replaced with actual bone instead of cartilage. They both grow sharper as well, and you feel as though you are more capable in combat through this combination of enhanced adaptation and experience. 10 points
That's all I'm really set on for now.
I really got a horror film vibe off that last post honestly. Like that's the point where the audience is like 'owe yea all these scientists are gonna die for sure'.

10 points

>Rudimentary fur, your body becomes covered in a black fur, insulating your body against both heat and cold, although you stay much warmer in the cold with this than with scales, but scales keep you cooler in the heat, as well as providing slightly better protection. Still, this is a must in frigid climates. 5 points

>Rudimentary adapted communion, this adaptation allows you to select the biomatter containing the soul of the lifeforms you Commune with, while leaving the rest of it's mass for assimilation, greatly helping with hunger that you normally gain from Communion. Although at this stage, the process is inefficient and you gain both less EP and less hunger reduction, but continue down this path and you can have the best of both worlds! 10 points

>Rudimentary cell consolidation, you instruct your cells to commit a form of cannibalism, compacting your form and reducing both hunger and overall energy spent per cycle. Best used creatively. 10 points.

I think we should develope one adaptation that we try to keep hidden, I'd like to think we could keep the pollen hidden, but who knows. We don't know it yet, but us as humans know humanity for the most part won't commune willingly.. these people won't ever just let us loose, but having a human friend could help greatly.

>Basic intelligence (20)
Efficiency and intelligence. I'm still attached to our meatblob look, there's just an appeal to it that scales, fins, and fur lack. You know what I mean?
>>
>>5042853
Before I go though I should specify something about one of the adaptations:

The cell consolidation adaptation is not a one off, once you get the adaptation you can activate it at will, although it loses effectiveness with repeated use in a short amount of time. At the rudimentary level, the hunger loss and efficiency gain is small, but as you advance the adaptation, it becomes more efficient and the benefits become more pronounced. Sorry if that wasn't clear from the start.

so anyways now that i am back to a working keyboard i am going to go with
>Rudimentary asexual reproduction 10 points.
for those sweet experiments we can do perhaps do something like mitosis and fusion allowing us to split up our mass into 2 smaller copies perhaps make some TINY ants that we can slip out of our cages air vent, perhaps lay a lizard egg and make the scientist see some practical use out of us tempt them with immortality/perfectCloning, perhaps use other templates of adaptations we have to create new lifeforms or traps for us too use
>Rudimentary photosynthesis, 5 points
camouflage and a energy boost that we sorely need and free evolution points and we would look like a mean green mother form outerspace, that green little men from mars look.
>Rudimentary adapted communion 10 points
this is sorely needed and its better if we focus on this instead of consolidation as when we invest more of this we will get the best of both worlds and i think we are at a decent minimum size.
>Rudimentary pollen generation 10 points
subtle infestation path and possible experimentation path for Viruses/Bacteria/Mold perhaps spore reproduction.

also i am not picking any adaptations like claws or fur or better legs or eyes. as it would make us dramatically look more dangerous and capable looking nothing too dramatic but perhaps fur would be good for covering any surface adaptations or combo with spore production basically making our whole body covered in microscopic stamen that can produce spores.

also i think we could combo scales/carapace and fur basically have scales grow fur ontop or if the scales are small enough inbetween, chitin would be the same just grow it ontop just like a ant but denser
>>
>>5042892

Backing this.

Pollen generation is basically our best route to escape.

Well the thing I like about the fur is, who knows exactly where we are now, it could be anywhere in the world, but it seems like we were found on the artic or some tundra from the memories we unlocked. We could still be there though, and if we get out could help alot. Besides fur I think would seem pretty innocuous, and make us more endearing to them. It's a mammal trait and we tend to have more compassion for other mammals.

Alright I think I have this right. Seems like everyone wants basic int, along with photosynthesis, pollen and adapted communion. Unfortunately you only have enough points for either int+photo+pollen or int+photo+adapted communion. So I'll go ahead and flip a coin, 1=heads for int+photo+pollen or 2=tails for int+photo+adapted.

Also for next time if you could link your old vote to your new vote when you change votes that would make tallying a bit easier.

There is no living creature in the universe who can resist the allure of the BCC.
>>
hmmm this is a lab so i wonder if they have monkeys but the cat makes me think the lab is more makeshift.

but i sort of want to get into cloning
sort of hope we continue being a cyclopes and we have fish genes so we have viable eye thats basically a flat disc so we could also grow eyes on our skin without having to bother with them being round and penetrating deep making them more vulnerable.

so one eye is cool makes us distinct and it will look good with our green skin and it works nice with the eye tail really a decent alien look.

also what if we act sick so they feed us more or hook us up with a IV bag giving us some direct energy
>>
>>5043894
We can probably reabsorb/grow eyes at will, not that big of a deal.
And if they discover that we've been faking being sick, and we actually get sick later on, they might not take us seriously which is a problem.
Good suggestions.
>>
>>5043909
Act Lethargic as we are that and starving perhaps experiment with our feed
>>
>>5043913
Oh yeah, acting like we don't have enough food. Plan seems good.
>>
>>5043914
well the fact is also simply we are not getting enough food as we are sort of not really eating and instead just absorbing them.
also it feels also sort of very modern human thing too not have vegetables or fruits like the irony too us being like this super carnivore is the fact we have teeth with the sharpness of bricks for most of the time that are probably not even that hard, also i think they sort of did the food test on us and humans have gone into the thing where the pet is only either a herbivore or a carnivore its very human thinking keeping in mind that cows will eat rabbits and birds if given the chance even tortoises will eat any meat you leave around
>>
>>5043916
>us being like this super carnivore is the fact we have teeth with the sharpness of bricks
We did eat vegetables before, and our blunt teeth is most likely due to us not evolving them enough. I'm just waiting until they give us large animals like cows or goats, or a predator like a gator to test our fighting abilities.
>>
>>5043918
it seems sort of insane to put there only specimen into whats possibly a death match sort of like not snorting the lasts seeds of a important plant too see if it gets you high
>>
>>5043918
also yes we did eat it Once but it seems like they are firmly having us on a meat diet currently they have now tested fish, plants of what sort i dont know, insects, reptile, mammal, next would be poultry, fruits, fungus too basically test the range of our diet i guess
>>
>>5043961
Yeah, since we seem to always gain something new with what we eat they'd want to test how far we can adapt.
>>5043958
Cats are already pretty dangerous for something as small as us, and yet they put it in anyway. I think they'll give us more dangerous animals when we start becoming a big boy.
>>
So are we killing the nerds or no?
>>
>>5044058
I don't know. They seem cool. If we ever meet an asshole tho we're definitly ripping him apart.
>>
>>5044058
Communion isn't death so probably no.
>>
If we keep playing ambassador I think our goal shouldnt be escape as much as it should be to claim the laboratory. We would have a base of operations, the combined intelligence of every scientist in this lab, which is assumedly a high level government security clearance bio research lab (by the way we are a biological horror to some degree if you didnt know so that kind of info would be kinda beneficial imo just sayin), communion by the name even implies its religious so we could even set up an actual religion hiding amongst humans and bringing in followers
>>
>>5044130
Eh, warrior can be useful in times of crisis.
What I'm thinking of right now is
>evolve until we can communicate and/or develop psychic abilities
>convince the researchers that they should work with/for us
>gain more and more power until we convince world governments not to attack us
>create a new religion and convince people to commune once they feel fulfilled with their current life
>find out what the fuck we where before all that
And as an anon suggested before, mabe split our personalities in different bodies one at a time. We'd defeat them via their preferred method (fight with warrior, debate with embassador, hide&seek with coward) until they all submit to our judgement. Should stop them from going sperg mode and taking control whenever they want.
>>
>>5044164
While splitting your minds into separate bodies is something you can do if you figure it out IC, your various selves aren't just personalities, but also hold your aptitude for their various domains. For example, splitting the Warrior from you will greatly lessen your ability and desire to fight, almost remove your fight or flight instinct, and also make your other selves become more in control in a attempt to compensate, so you may not even think to attack or flee in a situation where that would be necessary. And that's not to say there are no benefits to splitting, I'm sure you guys can think of a ton of different uses for having more of you to do stuff, it's just not without some major drawbacks. High risk/High Reward.
>>
>>5044193
So cutting Warrior means we wouldn't want to fight and would be easy pickings for those who do. Cutting Ambassador would probably make us a power hungry fucker who doesn't understand the concept of mercy. And for Coward/Survivalist/Green Fuck/???, not quite sure what we would lose.

Seems like a gimmick, really.
>>
>>5044199
We probably won't think about hiding/fear the unknown/care about going through dangerous environments.
>>5044193
Ok, well I guess we'll have to work around that if we want the splitting plan to work.
>>
>>5044199
Our selves seem to be Red/Fight, Green/Flight, and Blue/Friend

So if we cut out Green we'd start charging face-first into everything completely recklessly and without regard for things like 'gauging how strong the target is' and 'can we actually take that'
>>
>>5044251
I agree, there is no need for a split considering how wrong it could go
>>
>>5044193
Seems like a bad way to deal with a split, your quest tho
>>
>>5044307
>>5044199
There may be work arounds to making splitting less risky, such as getting one of your million smaller voices to control a offshoot, while they probably won't be as effective as a split Ambassador at diplomancy or a split Warrior at wanton murder, you'll still be able to have two of you in different places with less risk to your core body.

And depending on what you assimilate or adapt down the line, you may unlock adaptations that completely nullify the drawback with splitting...

Also the way I see it is every one of the Creature's cells is it's own person, it's own tiny voice, who choose to work together with the rest of you because the pros outweigh the cons. The three big voices in you are the same way, as they are not just voices but also parts of your mind, so to me it makes sense to lose the skills those parts gave you when you separate them from your Whole.
>>
Anyways, writing now.

Post 1/2

Your sleep is uninterrupted, neither by dreams or the machinations of the Things outside. Your body, however, begins to take on some subtle and not so subtle changes. The first is your cells, who through their combined experience figure out ways to store, route and use information much more efficiently, as well as becoming more powerful in general allowing your mind to function better overall. Next is that special organ hidden within your core, the Communion stinger. The changes it goes through are much less subtle, as a dozen more tiny tendrils grow inside the tip, and cells congregate in it's core, growing into what one of those Things would mistake as a tumor, but is really a protobrain. This increased processing power allows it to choose to Commune only with the part of the creatures that holds their very being, leaving the rest of the biomatter ready for consumption.

And finally, the cells all throughout your body go through a radical change, the ones on the surface changing their entire structure so as to be able to gain energy from the one thing that is present all throughout the universe: Sunlight. The change isn't only surface level, and if you were to be cut open you would see that every inch of your body has turned that deep dark green. And although you aren't awake to notice it, you can feel that driving force within you, that hunger lessen a little.

With that complete, you are a little bit better suited to survive and thrive on this world.

First this world, and then the stars. Our great work is nowhere near complete, but soon... Soon we will be Whole...

And so you sleep, the deep restful sleep of those innocent few who know nothing of guilt, who are pure and driven in purpose. It is several hours later when you finally awaken, and you find to your surprise that your sleep wasn't quite as undisturbed as you thought. You're back in that colorful room, and the first thing you look for is that shock tile. To your eyes you can see nothing on the ground that sticks out, but you remain wary. Again, it seems as though your captors have left you with another puzzle.

In front of the far wall is a rectangular yellow block, about 4 feet wide and 4 feet tall, how long it stretches to meet the wall you aren't quite certain, perhaps 5 to 6 feet long, and on the front of it 2 feet up are four holes, each differently shaped. The one on the far left is designed strangely, a five pointed hole made of several triangles. To the right of it is a simple circular hole, and to the right of that is one shaped like a square, and the final one on the far right is a triangle. Above each of these holes is a symbol painted on the object, some in red, some in green, and one blue one, not that any of the symbols mean anything to you.
>>
>>5044372
MoreInterestingYourWay
>>
In front of the rectangle on the floor, lie 6 different objects, one shaped like a 3 dimensional version version of that hole on the far left. And then one that is shaped like one of those Things, and for a moment you wonder both how they got one of their kind to be this small and also why you can't sense any life in it, but then you realize that it is made of a waxy material and was never alive. It also has a red symbol on it. Next to it is a sphere with one of those green symbols painted on it, and the one next to that is another sphere with a red symbol painted on it. The second to last one is one of those cubes they've been giving to you, except you see no tab on it nor sense any biomatter and you can see no symbol on it. And finally a small pyramid, with a blue symbol painted on it.

Figuring that the symbols on the small objects and the symbols above the holes must mean something on how to solve this puzzle, you make note of each one on the rectangle: Above the five pointed hole is a green symbol, above the circle is a blue symbol, above the square is a red symbol, and above the triangle is a green symbol.

What do these morons want you to do now?

Forgot one thing:

The cells at the bottom of your legs begin to mass together, similar to when you developed a skeleton. A hard core forms, and then lengthens to an inch long, before curving and becoming thin and sharp along the tip, then the process repeats on the tip of your tendrils. Your teeth change too, becoming pointed as cells reroute to their core to strengthen them, and finally becoming a good deal sharper along the edge than before. You like your chances in a fight a lot better now.
>>
>>5044400
>>5044413
whats the colour above each hole?
first we shall see if any object has a matching coloured symbol and if the object matches the hole..
hmm perhaps if the symbol matches and the object is small enough that it could fit into the hole?
>>
>>5044436
as in the symbol has the same colour and the same shape of the symbol first then see if those are on the correct object or if they are not matching then we would need to sort them after similarity and wonder if they even fit into the hole
>>
>>5044436
>you make note of each one on the rectangle: Above the five pointed hole is a green symbol, above the circle is a blue symbol, above the square is a red symbol, and above the triangle is a green symbol.
>>
>>5044451
yes but the important question is the Shape of the symbol or all of them the same except for the color
>>
>>5044420
You start with the obvious thing, which is putting matching colors and shapes in the matching holes, and then realize that this test is a bit trickier than that: none of the objects correspond with the holes colors. There are still two objects that have no colored symbol, so at first you think to put them in any hole. Noticing no change in the rectangle, you take them out and put them in the hole that matches the shape, five pointed shape in five pointed hole, which causes a green light to turn on above the hole you put it in. Huh. Next you put the uncolored cube in the square hole, and instead of a green light a yellow light comes on above the hole. Still quite confused, you step back to consider what to do next.

whats the shape of the objects and there colour to simply fy it down so i can draw it
i have
>blank square
>red human
>blue triangle
>green ball
>red ball
so i am missing one object and i dont want to leave anything up to interpretation on my end or missing something so is the star green?
>>
>>5044499
i want to be 100% sure on the star shape and i have been thinking of painting the blank square red with our blood for the red hole or placing the human doll there or trying to force our green body into the green triangle hole.
perhaps the holes relation too each other matters

Feigning weakness in this manner costs us nothing and doesnr contradict our previous actions.
>>
>>5044516
yeah lets try that first lets see what importance just shapes have.
and important thing to note the blue shape is a pyramid and not just a triangle meaning it has a square bottom.
>There are still two objects that have no colored symbol
wait was the star colourless?
so we put it in into its hole and that was a greenlight but is that positive or negative response.
>>5044522
like from meta as a human i think green is positive but the big shape is yellow so yellow could be positive.
anyways i want at least too do a very frustrated attempt of pulling out the star and desperately jam it into the square hole too see what the light would be

I realize I didnt really explain, but lady nurse who took care of the cat might see we take memories as well
>>
>>5044529

That is the fail option. Just ran that crap into the wrong hole, then get angry when it doesnt fit, then just storm off in a tantrum.

>>5044533
Acting like a cat, just stretch like that, rub on some things, then curl up into a ball.
>>
>>5044522
like i also think they did the test badly as they have not even pretrained us in what response is positive, or showed a treat in the yellow box
like we know food is inside the objects earlier but they dont know that we sensed it and just solved puzzles and got a treat for it perhaps they would think its strange if we dont try and solve the puzzel like we did earlier

we are not sensing one now perhaps if we dont do the puzzle now they make a puzzle hidden again with food inside and testing how we sense the treat and sort of figure out our biosense or ways to block it.

perhaps while also testing our puzzle solving ability they are also testing our ability for future gratification and our ability too sense food a test is not always for one thing >>5044533
perhaps the cat was trained for green too be a positive response with Pavlovian training.
i say lets try and access the cats memories on similar experiences
>>5044532
if we are playing into acting like a cat we also could transform into the cat so it dont seem like memories are shared between forms.

oohhh also i sort of want to try and transform into a ant at this size the mandibles could also have better grip then our tentacles or paws

*scientist not nurse, sorry im stoned

>>5044534
yes but i dont want to give up too soon i want to solve this puzzle as good as we can. sort of just try and get all lights yellow first and if nothing happens we brute force it all into green i sort of want to figure out what light is supposed to be good and if yellow is maybe or if there is a red for NO along with a sound i want to test all methods and brute force it like the stupid video i showed and just frustrate the makers of this puzzle
>>
>>5044550
Having watched the video now, that is hillarious. Put everything in the square hole.
>>
>>5044539
>>5044532
if we act cat like we become a cat and also as we have several balls and a flat floor and i think its likely a ball will be left over even if we solve the puzzle or get bored that we literally could bump around the room in our baseform and follow it if not try and bite it but our neckless mouth stubbylegs meaning we just sort of bump it around with much more force and speed meaning we toddle after it faster
>>5044556
also makes sense we put the star into the star hole and it had another response then the square hole, so try most everything and see if its still yellow, also idea if we really want to do something that both genius and also idiotic just rotate the pyramid and press the square bottom into the square hole like a toddler just repeatingly jamming it into the same hole until it fits

>>5044556
also i had a thought we are still this meatball with 4 tentacles and 4 legs? so should not some shapes be EXTREMELY annoying to deal with and lif
>star shape tons of crevices and points for the tentacles to brace against making the easiest shape to lift except for the human doll
>human doll long with hook shapes with the arms and legs super easy to wrap around a tentacles and lift
>round spheres could be extremely hard and literally require using all our tendrils for it too not slip out of our grip possibly complicated by the mucus our tendrils could leak
>square big shape would sort of be easier to maneuver and exerting force on at each face and corner but still a big shape would sort of not be too heavy likely but hard to hold like moving a huge but empty cardboard box
>triangle again more grips but would be extremely annoying to maneuver and not squeeze at the points as it would just slip out of the grip
>>
>>5044502

thank you dude now this is accurate some visual reprisentation people could want that i will update accordingly too the story

>>5044516
You place the pyramid in the triangle hole, to no effect.
>>5044522
Growing frustrated, you remove all the objects from the holes, then as a subtle insult to your captors you place every object into the square hole. The light above it turns green, and by the time you place the last object in it turns red. You wander around the room for a while, growing bored. After about 20 minutes of waiting, the Things still haven't come in and you're beginning to think they've forgot about you.
>>5044532
Deciding that attempting to further endear yourself to them you decide to take the Thing doll with you and emulate the activities of the furry creature you Communed with, licking it and then rubbing it before finally curling up around it. If the Things took notice of this, they've given no indication, as your still trapped in this room, waiting.

Growing frustrated, you turn to yourselves for any kind of advice.

I AM GROWING ANNOYED OF THESE TESTS AND GAMES. I CARE NOT FOR HOW THEY CHOOSE TO MEASURE OUR INTELLIGENCE, THEY SHOULD KNOW BY NOW THAT WE ARE FAR SUPERIOR TO THEM. BREAK THE OBJECTS, THAT WILL SHOW THEM TO THINK TWICE BEFORE SUBJECTING US TO ONE OF THESE STUPID PUZZLES AGAIN.

I think the color of the light above the holes mean something, it turned green when you put the star in the star hole, so maybe that means that that's the correct placement? And the square hole's light turned yellow when you put the square in, which either means it's incorrect or it needs more objects. And then when you put all the objects into the square hole, the light changed to red. That probably means that you put the wrong one in or something. Also, can I just say how much I hate puzzles? They are the worst.

Agreed. This is the most annoying puzzle they've put in front of us yet, which makes me wonder if the reward will be worth the trouble... And it seems as though the objects without the colored symbols simply go into the holes that match their shape... Hmmm, I'll let you figure out the rest, I'm still barely awake.

You ask that tiny wise voice if it has any advice, and all you get as answer is silence. You think you have better odds of figuring it out now though, if your still inclined to give it a shot.

>Write-in ideas on how to solve the Puzzling Rectangular Quandary
>>
>>5044574
You have tiny little "fingers" on the tips of your tendrils, these make gripping things easier than if you were just a tentacle monster.
>>

>>5044413
i am going with for this step pull out the square and star swap them see what happens if the star/square does not fit or just glow yellow then return the star then start jamming everything into the square hole. if nothing works then try and rotate the pyramid so its square bottom can touch the background by having its sharp point be directed outwards i dont think it will solve the puzzle but its something
>>
>>5044602
Retcon for a line:
>You place the pyramid in the triangle hole, and a red light turns on above it!
>>
>>5044602
okay
>1. put the star back
>2. put red action figure into square hole then in the cube this way we have red and square in the same hole
>3. if 2 does not work replace the content of the square hole with red ball
>4. if 3 does not work try green ball
so first see if it must have both color and shape be in hole as we our self where green when we put in colorless star thus doing green and shape at the sametime.
then try the balls too see if it just needs too fit and have color
my last resort too the square problem would be painting it with our blood if its still red.
i am trying to figure out the importance of shape compared too color.

or is this puzzel unsolvable as they want us to change the color of our body?
>>
>>5044608
hmmm so shapes does not matter as much as color possibly
>>
>>5044478
>>5044602
hmmm ambassador voice i think you are wrong as we got yellow when we put square into square hole thats why i am trying the action figure we got more object then we got holes so perhaps we combine them
but even then we cant fit a sphere or a square into a triangle hole and i dont think we can fit a triangle into a round hole

i am sure it has something too do with a combo object
and i am sure the action figure will fit into the triangle?
>>5044623
okay additional idea star blank can only fit into a star hole so that got the green light
but red square hole could be filled by an red object
>>
>>5044602
what ever we do i sort of want to try and change shape into the small black creature we assimilated
>>
>>5044602
Just shove everything in the square hole, it all fits in there
>>
>>5044657
we did that and we actually got green before it turned red before we put in the last object so we are on the right track
>>
>>5044586
if any blank was accepted in the right shaped hole we could just rub away the symbol
>>
>>5044602
>Try to touch objects one with another to see if they interact somehow
>>
>>5044623
First you remove all the objects from the holes. You put the five pointed object back in it's hole, the light turns green again. Then, you put the Thing figure into the red square hole, the light turns yellow above it. Remembering the square hole's reaction to the cube, you place that in with it as well, and the light above remains yellow.

You take inventory of your remaining objects: You still have the red sphere, the green sphere, and the pyramid, three down and yet you feel no closer to solving the puzzle.

>>5044945
You take your remaining objects and rub them together, to no obvious effect.
>>
I realize now that this puzzle is the dumbest most nonsensical problem I've put in front of you guys so far, so I'm just gonna give you guys two more attempts before we move on to something less mind numbing. Don't worry, there's no punishment for failing, and there's even a reward for getting it partially right. If there's ever another test sequence, it's gonna be better than this.
>>
>Star in Star = Green (Correct)
>Triangle in Pyramid = Red (Wrong)
>Four (unknown?) objects in Square = Green (Correct)
>All five objects in square hole = Red (Wrong)
>Thing in Square = Yellow (Needs more? Incorrect?)
>Square in Square = Yellow (Needs more? Incorrect?)

How about we just keep the star in the star hole and just pour all of the other objects in the square hole? Maybe that's all it is. It only turned red when once we put the last object in.
>>
>>5045212
Try to place the objects into the various holes until all the lights turn green. If an object does not change the colour of the light, take it out and try another hole.
>>5045218
Yeah a visual puzzle in text form is pretty annoying to deal with. Try something with boolean logic or math, that should be easier to figure out through text. Or maybe just roll guess
Either way, no harm done.

Post 1/2

You decide to use brute force, it's worked out pretty well for you so far. Figuring that the objects that are already in are at least partially correct, you start by placing the red sphere into the square hole, and the light above turns green! Perhaps that's the correct amount? You move on to the next, and place the green sphere into the circular hole, and the light above turns red. You take it out and then decide to put it in the triangle hole, figuring that it can't hurt to try. And the light above the triangle turns green! With only one object left, and one hole left unfilled, you place the blue pyramid in the blue circle hole, and the light above turns green!

A loud beep resounds from within the rectangle, as it splits down the middle in front of you and slowly opens, revealing... Biomatter! And a whole lot of it, at least several pounds worth. Perhaps they also realized that your repeated Communions didn't keep you fed, and decided to gift a feast, albeit kept behind an asinine test.

For a moment you wonder why you didn't sense all this biomatter, and then conclude that your sense can't go through thick material. No matter, you're starving! You go inside what was once the rectangle, and set to work devouring the dead flesh to your hearts content! You try to take your time with it, to savor this long awaited meal, but after 15 minutes all the flesh is gone, and while the dead meat has no new information to pass onto you, the simple gift of a full bioprocessor is gift enough.

>You've solved kinda the hole conundrum, and got rewarded with a lot of biomatter! Your hunger will be less noticeable, for a time. 15 Evolution Points gained, leaving you with 15 EP!

It isn't long after you finish your meal when the wall behind you bursts open! In walks three of the black suited Things, holding what you assume to be weaponry. They surround you, while behind them walks in three of the those shiny white Things, two holding the grip sticks and one with what you now realize to be your cell, taken out of it's usual room and with the front wall open, ready for your insertion.

But, you've changed much since the last time they've tried to take you back to your room, you're stronger than you were before. Maybe an all out brawl is still beyond you, but you have an idea on how to subtly place your cells inside one of them, beginning the process of complete takeover and replacement of the Things body. It's not without risk, of course, but it could be a crucial first step towards your escape.

>They've abused us for too long, and now it's time for them to feel some of the pain they've put us through! LET ME AT THEM, I KNOW HOW TO END THE LIFE FUNCTIONS OF AT LEAST ONE OF THEM!
>>
>>5045262
>While you know logically that your chances of coming out on top are rather low, you can still do something that will be essential for your break out. Let one of the white Things grab you, and then when it brings you close, quickly pop out your Communion organ, and sting one of them on the arm, injecting thousands of your cells and beginning the unavoidable process of complete host takeover. This plan isn't without risk, of course, but I trust in our abilities.

>While taking out your frustrations on these Things would be satisfying, you are reluctant to give up the inroads you've made in endearing yourself to them. Go with them quietly, like last time. I'm afraid us lashing out and striking one after having demonstrated our mimicry will be deemed very suspicious. The cells would surely be discovered We'd convert him if they don't kill him, but he would be of no use to us under surveillance, and just helo them counter our main weapon better.
Let them get careless. We only need a moment and a needle-sized wound that won't be noticed. That time will come. And once we have one sneakily, they will all fall to us in time.

They clearly aware about our intellect and abilities, they brought weapons and handle us with caution. But we still have an ace (more precisely a hook) up our sleeve. After they leave us alone we could try and look around our cell and fight the"monster" who choped of our tendril before. We are bigger, smarter, stronger than before, and had a good meal, hunger wont be an issue for some time I think.
If we can get out of our cell we can morf into cat for camouflage.

Post 1/2

For a moment you almost erupt into a claw slinging death ball, and then your wiser self takes control, and you once again lower your tendrils and let them grab you. It is painless like last time, and the last thing you see as your lowered into your cell is the face of that bearded Thing, looking more grim than usual. Then the wall slams shut, and you are enveloped in darkness. It's a rather tight fit, you must have grown in size even more than the last time you were in your cell. The ride is bumpier than last time, and you note that is taking much longer to get to wherever they're bringing you. Finally you can feel your cage being lowered on the ground, a bit too rough you might add, and a short while later the wall pops open. From what you can see, you are in a new room, with that strange spiral symbol painted on the wall ahead in black.

Tentatively, you poke an eye tendril out of your cell. Seeing, and sensing, no biomatter in the room with you, you grow braver and crawl out of your old cell. Is this place supposed to be your new room? At least they are considerate enough to enlarge your holdings if you grow to large. You sadly make note of a complete lack of music making devices in here, and all in all this room is rather barren. Still, deciding to pay attention to all the details that stick out, you thoroughly examine your new cell.

There are four walls, each one almost completely smooth except for the one behind you old cell, half of which is reflective, and as you take a good look at yourself for the first time, you faintly sense live biomatter behind the strange reflective material. You can't be quite sure, but the biomatter signal feels those of the Things. Are they keeping a closer and more secretive watch of you now? To the left of that mirror is a slight rectangular indentation on the wall, what you suspect to be one of those opening walls although of a more esoteric design. The wall in front of you is almost completely featureless, except for a similar but smaller rectangular indentation, colored grey and about half the height of the other one. The last wall to the right is nearly smooth, except for a vent on the bottom! You move closer to it, and feel cool air blowing on your "face". And... you hear the telltale low hum of one of those vent monsters!

With your examination seeming to be complete, and try as you might you can find nothing else that sticks out in this room. You wonder why they left your old cell in here, but your thoughts are cut short as you hear a high pitched squealing sound, as the tall rectangular wall begins to slide to the right! It takes about 15 seconds for the wall to slide open, and you see the familiar form of the bearded Thing, holding a leash connected to a furry quadruped about your size. The second you and the creature make eye contact, it bares it's teeth and starts growling at you, backing away slowly.

The bearded Thing yanks the leash holding the furry creature, and forcefully pulls it into the room with you. It crouches down on both knees, looking you in the eyes, and says something to you not that you can understand it. It repeats the phrase, more forcefully this time, and when you show no sign of recognition, it issues some command to the furry quadruped before walking out, the wall sliding closed behind him.

The creature in front of you must be particularly loyal, as it followed the order and sat down on it's haunches, looking at it's master and whining as he leaves the two of you alone. You're unsure what the Things intentions are with this, are they purposely putting you in danger for no reason? Or do they think you can handle it? Have they no empathy for the creatures in their care, to put them in front of you again and again?

Your thoughts are cut short as the creature raises up, and begins to slowly pad towards you, while baring it's teeth and growling! The last thing you notice before you make your move is that the creatures biomatter signal is odd somehow...

>They want a fight, so we will give them one. TIME TO TEST OUT OUR NEW CLAWS, WHILE THIS THINGS SIZE IS INTIMIDATING, I AM CERTAIN ITS DESIRE TO SURVIVE IS MUCH WEAKER THAN OURS!

>You can't help but feel pity for this creature. Commune with it, show it that there's no need to feel afraid. There is some risk of getting hurt while doing it, but I'd feel terrible if we just slaughtered the poor thing.

If it attacks us fight it but otherwise keep distance.

Alright guys, next update to this quest will be in a new thread next week. Sorry if this is disappointing to anyone, but IRL stuff needs to be taken care of first, as well as I honestly need a bit of a break to plan out how to finish the lab saga and to recharge my mental juices. Next thread will be thursday or friday next week, at the usual time if not a little earlier.

Thanks so much bros for participating in the quest, I honestly did not expect to get so many players with as weird a concept this quest is. Anyways, I'll see you all next week!
