Welcome back.

Rules are simple: Votes are tallied every hour, with whatever course of action being the most popular being the course of action taken. Write ins are encouraged and non-mutually exclusive votes will be combined if possible.

When a roll is called for, roll a D100 unless otherwise specified.

Inventory, pokemon stats and other links: https://docs.google.com/document/d/15i2N08IpWqitoTJujsUMishe4PLbao1lqT-bCAmvPcE/edit

For a short summary for the new and to recap:

You are Alex. A newly minted trainer and camping enthusiast just starting out on your journey at the age of Seventeen after your father lost his job in order to help pay the bills.

Last time, you looked for pokemon, encouraged Holly to catch a few, had another run in with Team Green, handed evidence relating to them to the police, trained over lunch and tried your hand at fishing when you made camp, where you caught a Dratini.

Unfortunately, while retrieving your rod after it got pulled into the water by something hooked, you were pulled off your feet and hit your head.

The last thing you saw before blacking out, were a pair of glowing yellow eyes...

You come to with a pounding headache.

You're wet like a drowned Rattata, but oddly, rather warm.

You're on the shore now, still clutching the rod. You can see a fish thrashing madly on the end still, so you couldn't have been out that long.

A look in the vague direction of west confirms that yes, it hasn't been that long.

You can even hear the others calling out after you some way across the water.

Which... means you're on an island.

At night. By yourself. Somehow.

Okay...

You're pretty sure you're concussed again, but first thing's first...

You quickly pat down your belt and find to your relief, you still have your team with you.

You also have two pokeballs.

You are, however, minus a pair of pants and boots right now. You also still have your fishing rod, with a still madly struggling pokemon on the end.

It's not a lot, but it's something.

Next on the list...

You reel in your catch and haul it up on the bank, where it starts flopping about in the gloom.

You stare dumbly at the brown, drab pokemon.

You really weren't expecting to find a Feebas after seeing most of the ones caught here were from another spot entirely, but here you are.

It lights up and shows the menu, damn the water.

You sigh in relief, before flicking to Fie's number and hit call.

There's a pregnant pause, as the dex rings... and rings...

Then she picks up.

++"Alex wh- -re ar-"++ The line crackles.

"Fie?" You say. "I'm not far away, I can hear you. I'm on an island." You say, hoping the connection holds.

++"An i- -nd?"++ She asks.

It seems like nobody has been here for a long time, if ever, because there's plenty of deadwood around the treeline.

You wind up enlisting the rest of your team to actually cut some useable fire wood and dig a fire pit, but once that's done, it isn't long before Sage has lit a small fire and you're staring at a stack of wood and branches.

"Great job, guys." You say, as you warm your hands and continue to look at the bank and the branches you gathered.

"Hey, Rusty, help me dig here, would you..." You say, before turning to the bank, finding a good sized rock and starting to pick at the bank.

Rusty looks at you solemnly before coming over and helping you dig.

It's hard work and after about half an hour, you've made very little progress.

You just keep right on digging and start having some more success as you shift a few rocks out of the way with Rusty's help.

Soon enough, you have the windbreak done and after a little thought, you've line it with leaves to keep the dirt from sticking to you.

Now your hole is as comfortable as it's likely to get, you make a crude frame from branches and cover it, giving you some shelter in case it rains tonight.

After a moment's thought, you add another layer and heap the dirt on top of the branches so that if the winds pick up, you won't lose your shelter.

Then you heap some more wood on the fire and huddle into your coat under the shelter and pull your coat tight around yourself.

It's already quite cool, now the sun is nearly down, and it's liable to get colder yet.

You're tempted to just huddle up with Sage, but you might as well make the most of this.

It's vaguely nostalgic... like a half-remembered dream you had as a little kid of being a trainer.

The only thing missing would be rain outside.

Fortunately, fate doesn't oblige your idle thought as your team huddle in next to, around and on top of you, before you lay back and rest your head on Rusty's back.

He actually doesn't make a half bad pillow.

You shift everyone off when the fire has developed some coals and start stacking wood up.

Hopefully, it'll be seen by the others on the shore, or maybe one of their pokemon searching.

When you're done, there isn't much reserve firewood left, but you're feeling at least a little drier now.

So, with a groan, you crawl outside and stagger up the bank to start gathering more.

No, trying to push yourself right now is a dumb idea.

You crawl back into your dugout and settle down with your team again.

You half-heartedly check your pokedex for messages, but there's none. And no reception either.

This certainly blows, but you suppose it could be worse.

You're lucky your team is with you, that's for sure. Especially Sage. She's nestled herself against your chest and is basically keeping you warm single-handed.

The sun is properly down now and the stars are starting to come out.

In the dark, you can make out a flickering light across the water. You wouldn't be surprised if that was your campsite.

It's impossible to make out details, but it begs the question how the others have missed your fire.

You don't know how the others have missed your fire.

Hell, they might even have noticed it just now and are on their way.

Either way, you're tired, concussed and starting to actually dry off now, so the smartest thing to do, you feel, is get some sleep.

That in mind, you close your eyes and make yourself as comfortable as you can.

When you drift off, you're immediately 'awake' again, on a foggy shoreline.

You're alone, but fortunately, you're clothed this time.

Looking around, there seems to be nothing but impenetrable fog on the water, but there's a forest further up the bank.

"Mega Kick again, Kangaskhan!" Mike orders.

"Mud Slap." You order.

Rusty moves as Kangaskhan continues to totter.

She manages to get the kick off, but Rusty lands Mud Slap in return, right in her face, which in no way helps her balance issues, resulting in her topling onto her back, blinded, while Rusty is launched into the air by her kick.

There's an opportunity here, but you're going to have to get at least a little lucky.

Alternatively, Kay O-o could very easily finish Kangaskhan in her present state.

"Kangaskhan, Mega Punch!" Mike orders.

You have to give him credit for trying to make the best of a bad situation, but with Rusty now falling back down towards Kangaskhan, presently on her back, but this isn't going to work out anywhere close to as well as he's hoping.

"Metal Claw, Rusty." You order.

Rusty's little claws glow as he streaks towards the ground as he stretches them towards Kangaskhan.

Kangaskhan swings at Rusty as he comes down, missing wildly, while Rusty slams into her chest, claws first.

You hear an audible wheeze as the breath leaves her lungs and she goes limp, knocked out cold as Rusty hops down off her body as Mike recalls her.

"Lucky shot, faggot." He snarls.

Huh. Either Mike really is as shallow as you think he is or something fucky is going on here.

"It's not luck, Mike." You say.

God, you almost want to hit yourself with how preachy you sound right now.

"See, this is why you are and always will be a loser."

Now, that's more like it. Appealing to Mike's reason is a lost cause.

"The right thing to ask yourself would be: 'what did I do wrong with my pokemon, able to one-shot the little iron pebble that spent its first action setting up Stealth Rocks?'" You add.

A bit wordy and not really pithy and you kind of lost your train of thought a little, but fuck it, you're concussed, you can get away with it.

Mike looks like he'd rather like to hit you right now.

"Great job Rusty, let's keep it up." You say, ignoring him for the moment.

"Now you just listen here, faggot-" Mike begins, jabbing a finger at you.

"Say, where even are you right now?" You ask, deciding to test that theory. "Why are we dreaming in PvP?"

"Wait, what?" Mike looks taken aback as all get out. "What the fuck are you talking about?" He asks.

Apparently the penny hasn't dropped yet.

>Mike, I'm not your subconscience telling you to pull your finger out, it's actually me, Alex.

Well, that certainly doesn't do your opinion of him any favours, but you can't say you're surprised.

"Rhyhorn, Bulldoze!" Mike orders as Kay O-o deftly performs Dragon Dance.

He's really got the hang of it. There's no wasted motion in his performance and the speed with which he dances is mesmerising. He's a natural at this.

Even when the ground starts heaving as Rhyhorn stomps, it doesn't throw Kay O-o off in the least, even if he is a little worse for wear after that hit.

It collapses, knocked out cold by that single blow.

Mike's Staravia swoops onto the field and is immediately pelted by Stealth Rocks.

This time, they do an absolute number on Staravia, battering it hard as it swoops in and batters Kay O-o with its wings.

It's timing is excellent, hitting Kay O-o right as he's wound up and exposed, doing a number on him as it swoops up and away out of reach, leaving him to swing into empty air.

"Damn it." You say quietly.

"What was that about me being a loser?" Mike asks smugly.

"...You got a hit in... and you're gloating about it when you're two pokemon down?" You ask, completely non-plussed by Mike's sudden swagger.

"Fuck you, this where you lose, faggotron." Mike says. "Staravia, Quick attack!" He orders.

Either he is severely underestimating Kay O-o, or he's severely overestimating his Staravia.

"Kay O-o, Dragon Tail!" You order

Staravia darts in and tags Kay O-o with its claws, but it's not quite fast enough to escape Kay O-o's retaliatory tail strike, which catches it as it turns and sends it hurtling back at Mike, who's forced to recall it to avoid a face full of Staravia.

Kay O-o is starting to look a bit battered, but there's still plenty of fight left in him.

Mike swears as his next pokemon is immediately pelted by the Stealth Rocks again.

Judging how this one yowls, it appreciates it about as much as Staravia did, although you're not familiar with this pokemon.

You're also beginning to wonder where the fuck Mike has gotten some of his pokemon.

You know he doesn't have any brothers, so what gives?

Fortunately, Sneasel's hit was only a weak one, so Kay O-o didn't lose out too badly there.

"Let's try again, Low Kick!" You order Kay O-o.

Sneasel darts in, claws aglow and scores a hard hit on Kay O-o, but in return, Sneasel gets its legs swept and slams into the ground, hardm knocking it out cold in one hit.

Kay O-o is starting to look pretty rough though.

"Don't celebrate just yet you fuck... Croconaw, go!" Mike orders.

The big crocodilian materialises, then immediately has to shield itself from the hail of Stealth Rocks it's greeted by. It doesn't do much, but every little bit helps.

So, it's probably safe to assume he does have a full team and Rusty and Kay O-o are not in great shape right now.

You can probably win this battle, it's just a case of how gracefully you can win andhow many of your pokemon are going to be out for the countafterward.

You're not sure how much that's going to matter, this being a dream and all, but still. Best to assume it matters.

This isn't a great position to be in.

"Volta, Thunder Fang!" You order as Croconaw gathers more mud.

Before the words are fully out of your mouth, Volta lunges upwards, teeth crackling with electricity and sinks them into Croconaw's shoulder, giving it such a fright, it yelps and drops the handful of mud it was gathering.

"Great job, Volta." You say as she shakes her head to try clearing the mud from her eyes.

Croconaw has backed up now as Mike berates it for being a pussy and not finishing Volta off, which gives you a moment to think.

Volta and Croconaw are both pretty rough looking, Volta from a hard hit from a move with type advantage and Croconaw just now from Volta's Thunderfang, which coming from an Electric type, was an extra-hard hit.

Croconaw doesn't have mud in its eyes though, which is a pretty severe impediment.

"Volta, Thunder Fang!" You order.

The Mud Slap isn't worth getting worked up over right now.

"Croconaw, Scary Face!" Mike orders as Volta bounds after Croconaw.

You've got to give Mike at least a little bit of credit:

It's a good idea to try and slow Volta up a bit, so Croconaw isn't having to take hits first, but it doesn't really matter with how hard Volta hits Croconaw.

It's not as hard as she could hit, but type advantage has weight.

Croconaw howls as Volta bites it again and shudders as residual sparks dance across it's hide as it makes a truly ghoulish face in return back at Volta.

"Can you just give up and fuck off already?" Mike asks in disgust.

>You wanted to battle.
>There's no running from a trainer battle.
>You first.

Volta's been slowed and still has mud in her eyes, but Croconaw's paralysis puts it at a distinct disadvantage in terms of speed, even with Volta being cautious because of Scary Face.

Volta braces and launches another bolt of electricity that goes wide again.

Maybe you should teach her Shockwave next, but man, that Mud Slap really was unfortunate.

"Volta, come back." You say.

With how she's still shaking her head, giving her a minute to clean up and compose herself seems like the best move. Especially with Croconaw paralysed.

"Queenie, let's go." You say, releasing her.

Mike frowns.

"The fuck is a Queenie? What sort of faggot are you, naming your pokemon all this cringe?" He says. "Croconaw, Water Gun. Try soaking everything. See if you can't find whatever invisible BS that faggot's trying to pull."

He's rewarded by Croconaw shuddering, yet again, from residual shock, paralysed.

"Right, screw this. Go, Breloom." Mike says.

Breloom appears and is immediately pelted by Stealth Rocks, before pawing at the ground and looking around, trying to spot its opponent.

With how foggy it is, you can't say you blame it.

We can argue about the potency of electricty in mareep. I believe it can still be manageable with rubber handles. But for ampharos, no way. Any amount of metal would electric-arc you to death. So even though he doesn't have much to trim, every single hair will zap you to death and have to be cut with specifically designed, expensive tooling, worth than your usual shear.
For the steel wood one, we can manage with heated regular scissors.

"Breloom, Mach Punch!" Mike orders.

Breloom moves fast and lashes out after a beat, just as you're drawing breath.

It lands and Queenie is launched, buzzing high into the air.

It doesn't seem that Queenie is that badly hurt, but there's a clear power gap that means the hit was worse than it otherwise would be.

"Pfft. You sneaky fuck. Sending a tiny little insect like that out in this." Mike says.

"Queenie, Fairy Wind." You reply.

The gust of dust-laden wind that Queenie summons up in response batters Breloom out of all proportion with their relative sizes and how much more experienced Breloom is.

Out of the pair, Queenie probably hit Breloom harder than she got hit from that punch.

Breloom is looking noiceably scuffed by the attack and shakes itself vigorously, trying to rid itself of the glittering powder it's covered in.

"There's more to a battle than size and power." You note neutrally.

Mike grits his teeth and you can see him getting redder across the clearing.

If this turns into a match of attrition, Queenie might just win out, but it's no guarantee.

"Breloom, Mach Punch!" Mike orders.

Once again, Breloom moves before you can speak and strikes Queenie to some effect, but fortunately, Queenie is still up. She's starting to look rather battered though.

"Queenie, Fairy Wind." You order again.

"Will you fuck off with that?!" Mike snaps before Queenie blasts Breloom with more dust-laden wind.

"It's working." You note as Breloom sways in the aftermath. Queenie isn't much better though.

And with Mike having no trace of irony, he's probably going to use Mach Punch again.

There's something bugging you though:

"Queenie, Fairy Wind, get some more height!" You order.

"Mach Punch!" Mike orders at the same time.

Queenie tries to get height, but it's too late.

Breloom hits Queenie hard and knocks her out of the air, to fall to the ground.

Fortunately, she's so small it's not much of a problem for her.

"Good job, Queenie." You say as you put her onto your belt again.

"This is where I win, faggot. You might as well give up now." Mike taunts.

"Like hell." You reply coolly.

Most of your team are pretty beat, to be fair, but Mike is set to get fucked by Stealth Rock on most of his team from here, not to mention his Croconaw is still paralysed.

"Sage, Psybeam!" You order in response as Croconaw spits a jet of water at her.

The two attacks meet head on and initially, Sage's Psybeam is dissipated by Croconaw's attack.

Your heart sinks as the struggle continues and Sage's attack is steadily forced back until Croconaw chokes and coughs as it's wracked by yet more spasms brought on by its paralysis.

Sage's Psybeam, now with a clear path to its target, strikes Croconaw full force in the chest and bowls it back past Mike, digging a trench in the process.

It's out cold.

"Way to go, Sage!" You say as Mike swears ferociously.

"Go, Staravia!" He says, releasing the bird pokemon again. "Quick Attack!"

You wait, trying not to grin. The poor pokemon doesn't deserve this.

It's not even halfway to Sage when the Stealth Rocks converge on it like flak, pelting it into submission and causing it to crash and tumble to a stop in front of Sage.

"You and those fucking[\i] rocks!" Mike bellows, red and furious now. "Go, Breloom M-" He begins, then hesitates. "Leech Seed!" He orders, catching himself, obviously expecting you to switch.

Breloom launches its Leech Seed and succeeds in seeding Sage, but Mike's eyes widen as you don't reach for Sage's poke ball during this.

"Sage, Psybeam." You order.

Left wide open as it is, Breloom takes the Psybeam head on and topples as the psychedelic beam of light fades.

"You fuck!" Mike bellows and runs at you swinging, only for the mist to close in between the two of you and seemingly swallow you.

"I can see why you'd gravitate towards the young fella."

You look off to the right to see an old man with a battered tin cup leaned against a tree.

Everything about him is battered, from his wrinkled, bronzed face, grey beard and sun-bleached hat to his weathered and torn jeans and flannel shit and the old, weatherproofed coat he's wearing.

"Who're you?" You ask cautiously. Beside you, Sage looks at the old man with an almost solemn expression

Gareth did say an aura guardian used to live around these parts, but that must've been a long time ago.

"Just call me Henry." He says. "Smoke? Or, Drink I guess. You look a bit young to like tobacco." He asks.

"Sure. Tea or Coffee sounds good about now, actually." You admit.

Henry nods, before gesturing for you to follow him.

You follow him across the clearing and through the trees along the track.

It's not long before you come out to a clearing, around which a red and blue light are drifting.

In the center is a rough log cabin. A table and chairs is sat under a porch where a Lucario is just now pouring another cup, presumably for you.

Henry sits down next to the Lucario, before gesturing for you to join them.

The tea is hot and strong. Even if this is a dream, you're grateful for it.

"Are you a ghost?" You ask after a minute just savouring the tea and enjoying the company.

"I expect so." Henry admits with a lazy shrug. "Blue's kids' kids are running around the lake and out yonder now, so..." He shrugs. "That's not a problem, is it? I expect you'd prefer me right now, ugly bugger I am, than a Haunter?" He asks with a crooked grin.

"Point." You admit. "Say, where's Mike?" You ask.

"That mouthy shit you were battling?" Henry asks. "Still asleep over yonder." He says, gesturing to about where you stopped for lunch on the bank.

"Will he remember that battle?" You ask.

Henry shrugs.

"He should. Whether he takes it seriously or learns anything from it or writes it off as a dream though, I dunno." He says frankly.

That makes sense. And if Mike was actually smoking weed, which you've no reason to doubt he'd lie about it in a dream, it's even less likely he'd remember or think too much about it.

Which is an honest shame, because it might've taught him something.

"The real question is how much of this you'll remember." Henry notes.

"I don't think you need to worry too much about me in that regard." You assure.

"If you say so." Henry says, taking another drink.

"By the way... *is* this a dream, or, what's the story?" You ask.

"Let's just say 'ghost bullshit' and leave it at that." Henry says with a chuckle.

You frown at his seeming evasiveness.

"...Alright, in the strictest sense, this is a Nightmare." He amends. "Like, the pokemon move. It'd be a helluva lot worse if you weren't so squared away. I dunno if that mouthy bastard's actually that bad or if his pokemon are that strong, but I've toned this as far down as I can manage." He says, almost defensively.

(Part 2)

"A friend of mine mentioned that an aura guardian lived around here and there was a shrine in his memory on one of the islands around here." You note.

The man snorts.

"Aura Guardian. Hah!" He chuckles.

"Was that you?" You ask.

He shrugs.

"Sure, I guess. Arceus, you keep fuckwits from bothering Latios and Latias on the side and breed Lucario for a living and people go calling you an Aura Guardian." He shakes his head, chuckling as the Lucario pours more tea. "Oh, lordy lou..."

"So... did you mean a Latios when you said 'young fella?'" You ask.

Henry nods.

"Yeah, you and him would get on like a house on fire, no two ways about it." He confirms.

"Is that why you brought me here?" You ask.

Henry shook his head.

"I didn't bring you here. I didn't even know you was here until I saw your fire and that leanto." He admitted. "Nice job, by the way." He adds. "But no, that wasn't me. That'd be the little miss." He says.

"Latias." You say, more to confirm than youhave any real doubt.

Henry nods.

"Yeah. She's a handful, that one." He confirms. "Fished you out in the nick of time, way I hear it." He adds.

"Yeah, That Feebas had a lot more fight in it than I figured." You admit.

"Mm. Well, down to business." Henry says, sitting straighter.

"Anyone who wants to catch Latias or Latios, they go through me." He says, then smiles wryly. "Living or dead, as the case may be. And after that battle, I can't see any reason I should stop you." He adds.

"But...?" You prompt.

That's the preamble to a 'but', if you've ever seen one.

"But, if you'll humour an old man, you won't take Latios." Henry says.

"Why?" You ask, taken aback.

You weren't even really sure you wanted to catch Latias, really. Maybe when you were stronger, but they're meant to be stupidly powerful, if you remember correctly.

"There'd be no gain for either of you." Henry explains. "The young fella's as grounded and well-adjusted as you are. He wouldn't learn anything and you wouldn't gain much from the experience either. The little miss though... Well. She's bold, she's flighty, she's curious and she's wilful. A real handful, that one."

He gives you a knowing look.

"She'd keep you on your toes, like she's done me. And you'd be the moderating influence on her that her brother simply can't be." He adds.

"...I mean, that makes sense..." You admit slowly. "I wasn't planning on catching either of them, though." You admit. "Meeting Latias like that was an incredible enough experience."

Henry grins.

"But...?" He asks.

"I can't say no when you've laid things out like that." You reply. "I'd be happy to have Latias travel with me for a while."

Henry nods.

"And I'll be glad for the break." He admits with a chuckle. "I don't suppose you know anyone who'd be a good fit for the young fella?" He asks. "He tends to fret when the little miss runs off."

You're silent as you think for a moment.

"Come to think of it, yeah." You say. "Holly, another friend of mine. She's a nascent psychic. She might be a good choice. Latios would give her a chance to step up and if Latios really is as steady as that, she might take a lesson or two from him.

Henry nods.

"Sounds like a plan." He says, then checks a pocket watch. "Well, you best finish your drink. Dawn's not far off and I expect your friends will be out looking for you." He says.

You take a moment to warm up a bit more, then stand up and start walking around your makeshift campsite.

It's foggy, but it's also really nice, with how still it is and the dawn chorus.

You see a few Oddish heading deeper into the trees to get out of the sun and Cherubi coming out onto the branches of the gums to soak in it.

You don't wander too far from your camp just yet, but there's only two conceivable scenarios where you're getting off this island, in your estimation.

>Go find Henry's cabin.
>Try calling Fie.

You decide trying to call Fie is the first bet, so, that in mind, you pull out your pokedex and call.

It rings a few times before Fie picks it up.

++"Alex?"++ She asks, sounding slightly alarmed. The line's not as crackly, so you hope this spot of reception lasts. ++Are you alright? Where are you?"++

"I'm alright, Fie." You say. "I'm on an island about due west across the water from where we made camp." You explain quickly. "A Feebas pulled me into the water by the line and I hit my head on a snag." You add. "I could hear you calling and see the campfire last night, so it's not too far."

++How'd you get over there if you fell in?"++ She asks. ++"We thought a Gyarados had taken you or something until you called last night. Reception out here is garbage."

"I can't confirm this, but I think that Latias might've saved me and brought me here." You say.

++"Huh. Okay, I think I see the island you mean. Just give me a minute..."++ She says.

There's the sound of dry leaves and twigs cracking, then a zipper working.

++"Wah! Fie!"++ You hear Judy hiss, along with the sound of a sleeping bag rustling.

++"Arceus' sake, Judy..."++ Fie grumbles. ++"Get dressed. Alex has a clear line and I've got a pretty good idea where he is."++

++"Fine..."++ Judy says and it sounds like there's a pout in her voice. ++"Just gimme a minute and get me his stuff."++

The zipper works again.

++"Okay, Judy should be there shortly. Just sit tight."++ Fie says.

>Right, I'll do that.
>I'm going to explore a bit, see if Latias isn't still nearby.
>Tell Fie about your dream.

why railroad like this? we picked explore the island, and you basically went "you find nothing, call Fie already" at us, like that one screencap of an old quest people post where players voted to explore a campground instead of meeting the chief there and the qm straight up says "You explore the grounds and find nothing, so you go meet the chieftain." as if no vote happened
>>

We rolled too low to find anything usefull I guess.

"Hey, could you wake up Holly as well?" You ask.

++"What? Why?"++ Fie asks, clearly taken off guard.

It probably does sound random to her.

Briefly, you explain the dream you had last night and the encounter with Henry.

++"Huh."++ She says intelligently as you try and spot the trail you saw in your dream.

It's probably overgrown by now, but you never know.

++"I mean, I guess that's a plan."++ Fie concedes. ++"I just hope Latios is on the same page as you are there. They're supposed to be super-protective. Anyway, gimme a minute..."++ She says.

More leaves and twigs and another zipper later and Fie is waking Holly up as you asked.

++"A Latios...?"++ You hear Holly mumble. ++"Sure, just a sec..."++ She says.

++"Okay, they're going to be a minute. Just sit tight, okay?"++ Fie says.

"Alright. I'm going to take a bit more of a look around. See if I can't find a way deeper in." You reply.

++"Just be careful."++ Fie says.

"Don't worry, I will." You assure, before Fie ends the call.

With that, you hang up and look at the treeline.

Now you've walked a little way from your camp, you can see a bend in the shore not far up ahead and there's still no sign of a path into the trees.

The island isn't very big. Maybe a quarter kilometre at its widest point. You could probably run a lap of the island in the time it'll take for Judy to get here.

You head back to your fire and recall your team before retracing the steps you recall vaguely from your dream up the bank to the trees, but there's no path there.

You keep looking, fanning out in either direction progressively looking for a track until you're almost doing sudden death runs along the shore.

When you catch sight of the southern side of the island though, you notice a very old post sticking out of the water, askew, as if it's drifted over in its old age.

You go to check it out and find the overgrown ruins of an old jetty in a patch of reeds, like the ones you saw yesterday along the southern bank.

Turning around, you can just about make out an overgrown path up into the trees from here.

It's tempting to follow the track right now, but you're hungry and have no equipment barring a poke ball.

And Judy should be here shortly with your things.

It's an easy choice to make, really.

You head back to your campsite and sure enough, she's on her way, riding her Braviary, while you can just make out Holly on Judy's Altaria.

They wave when they see you and shortly, they're alighting on the shore.

"So, did you get disoriented when you fell in and forget where the shore was?" Judy asks as she hands you your bag.

>Tell them about your dream last night and Henry's assertion Latias brought you here.

"But, how did you get here? We thought you'd drowned before you called." Holly asks.

"So, funny story..." You begin as you accept your bagf and dig through for a couple of muesli bars and a water bottle.

You quickly relate your dream last night and the encounter you had with Henry.

When you're done, Judy is giving you an odd look.

"And I might have proof." You add.

"Uh-huh." Judy says.

"No, seriously. Come check this out." You say, before leading the way to the ruined jetty and pointing out the trail.

"This is your proof?" Judy asks, dubiously.

"I figured it'd be a better idea to check it out with some back-up." You reply. "You in?"

Holly hesitates, then nods.

Judy hesitates, then shrugs and nods.

"Sure. I'm in. But you'll owe me one." She warns.

"Alright, that's fair." You agree, before setting off down the track.

You wonder if Jean is usually this abrupt in the morning or if this has anything to do with what you overheard on the phone.

In the the interest of not giving her any more reason to be grouchy, however, you stick to trailblazing for her and Holly.

The track is completely overgrown, but still decently well defined, making for decently swift progress along the track, but it's tough going, being up front.

The path has worn unevenly, there're fallen limbs and trees, bushes and saplings, that have grown in the intervening years since this place was maintained.

Eventually, you make it to a clearing, which you recognise as the one where you faced Mike.

It's still and as you cross, you feel a chill, but nothing happens as you continue onwards, towards where Henry's hut should be.

You keep going, watching your footing as you push fallen limbs out of the way and generally making sure the path is as easy going as feasible for Holly and Judy.

The trees are starting to clear out, when Judy yells and stumble's forward, knocking you over in the process.

The breath leaves you as you hit the ground.

"Argh..." Judy hisses.

"What's wrong?" You ask.

"My knee..." She says.

You awkwardly crawl out from under her and sit her up.

After some careful poking and shifting, you come to the conclusion, based on Judy's flinching and muffled whimpers, that she's sprained her knee.

"Here..." You say, digging out your first aid kit and popping some paracetamol for her and handing her your water bottle.

She downs them in one go as you fashion a splint for her, cutting a branch to size with your hatchet and cleaning it up with your knife until it'll sit comfortably while you bandage her up.

With that taken care of, you help her up and after a moment's contemplation, you hook her arm over your shoulder and help her limp along, supporting most of her weight.

This slows you down significantly and you're extra-careful picking your path now, but it's not long until you come out to the clearing where Henry's cabin stands.

(Part 2)

Time hasn't been kind to it:

It's partly collapsed, the roof has fallen in and it's completely overgrown.

Incongruously, the table and chairs under what's left of the porch seem to be completely untouched. There's even those old tin mugs sat like you remember them on the table, for heavens' sake!

You half expect to see Henry again, or his Lucario, but the bush is still.

Then, you're nearly bowled over by a bump to your shoulder and a Latias, most likely the one you met at the camp ground, is materialising in front of you.

Judy stares, eyes agog and Holly gasps in wonder.

"Hello, again." You say, reaching out.

Latias nudges your hand affectionately and coos as you scratch behind its ears.

"You know, even with the photo, I was convinced you made the part about Latias up." Judy comments as you help her limp to one of the seats.

You hear Holly give a squeak and turn to see she's staggered forward and looks ever so slightly spooked.

"It's alright." You say as Latias coos again.

There's an answering, deeper cry from just off to Holly's left, before a blue and white pokemon appears.

This has to be Latios and he doesn't look composed. He looks regal.

He looks at you for a long moment and you get the sense he's judging you.

He gives another cry, before rounding on Holly, peering down so that they're face to face.

Holly freezes and looks totally lost as Latios stares her down.

There's a tense moment, before Latios bumps Holly companionably in the shoulder.

She looks at you helplessly then notices how much Latias is enjoying your scratching behind her ears and follows your example, quickly reducing Latios to a purring, oversized Meowth.

"Look at you two." Judy says, snapping a picture.

"Yeah, it looks like you were right, son."

Judy jumps and yelps as she looks to her left to see Henry sitting there.

He's slightly opaque and hard to make out in the shadow of the porch, but he's there.

"These two are your responsibilitiy, now." He says. "Take good care of 'em. I'm going to take a break and catch up on some well-earned rest."

With that, he disappears, right before your eyes.

Judy is staring at the spot where the Ghost was just sat, eyes as round as coins, before Holly clears her throat.

"So... w-what now?" She asks.

"Alright..." You say, thinking.

It strikes you that there's no really good way to do this right now, what with your team being de facto full and the nearest PC being at the very nearest, back at the camp ground.

"Say Judy, is there some way to transfer another pokemon to the PC when you catch a new one?" You ask.

"Yeah, you can designate who using your pokedex. You don't have to just send the pokemon you just caught." Judy confirms.

That'll be information worth keeping in mind in future. It certainly would've been useful information last night.

After some fiddling around, you have the interface open though. The question then becomes who to designate to go to the PC for Latias.

You decide to swap out Queenie.

You don't particularly want to swap anyone out, but Queenie seems to be pretty laid-back, all things considered.

With this condition set, you dig out a poke ball and hold it out for Latias. She nudges it, before tapping the activator and disappearing in a flash, before the ball clicks shut.

It feels surreal holding this ball, even as Queenie's disappears.

You rerelease Latias and grin.

"Welcome to the team, Latias." You say, and scratch behind her ears again, earning another friendly bump that nearly topples you.

"So..." Judy says as Holly continues to pet Latios as they apparently have a moment. "What now?"

"Well, first thing's first..." You say, before turning back to Latias. "Do you know any healing moves? Wish? Healing Pulse, maybe?" You ask. "Judy's hurt her leg." You explain.

Latias coos excitedly before turning to Judy and reaching out to tap her knee.

There's a pulse of pink and Judy blinks.

"My leg... it's healed." She says, before smiling. "Thanks." She says as she undoes the bandage and hands back it and the splints you made.

Latias nods in response.

You turn to Holly and Latios to see Holly dig in her pack before she produces another of those black poke balls before she offers it.

Latios looks to her, then looks to you, and you get the sense he's asking you a question.

Latios nods, once, before touching the activator and disappearing.

The ball clicks, Holly stares at it for a second, before releasing Latios again.

"All set now?" Judy asks as you put the bandage back in your bag.

You nod.

"Yeah, let's get back to the camp." You agree.

She nods and releases her Braviary.

It takes a minute for Holly to get onto Latias's back and you wind up having to help her in that endeavour, but soon enough, you're all flying back to the camp.

It takes roughly three minutes, which is a lot longer than you'd anticipated, but then, Henry did say Latias and Latios are young.

It stands to reason they've not developed that much speed and stamina just yet.

When you land, Martha, Kathryn and Jean stare at you, clearly shocked and incredulous.

Fie and Gareth are likewise dumbstruck, the latter going so far as to down all his coffee in one go, as though in the belief that he's seeing things because he's half asleep.

"...Okay. I guess that dream of yours had some basis in reality." Fie says as you help Holly off Latios's back.

"Yeah, uh, I wouldn't go bandying around you've got legendaries." Martha says. "Not until you've gotten stronger, anyway. You'll have assholes trying to battle you left and right, if not trying to steal them."

"Don't worry, I'll be careful." You assure.

"Um..." Holly says.

"We'll start tonight." Martha assures, pre-empting her question. "Say, what pulled you in, anyway?" She asks.

"A Feebas, actually." You say, embarrassed.

You've kind of got an embarrassment of riches going on right now.

"Seriously? Arceus, save some for Gareth and Holly." She chides jokingly.

There's not much talking after that as you catch up on breakfast and clean yourself up.

Once you've got a clean change of clothes on, you check the weather and frown.

Looks like the next cold front is slated to hit some time this afternoon.

It's a good thing you told Ethan that it'd take you about five days to reach Silveridge town. You might wind up needing that day's grace.

Clearly, the others have seen the forecast as well.

"How far should we try and get, do you think?" You hear Jean ask.

"The forecast says the rain will be here around three." Kathryn says. "Let's worry about where we make camp over lunch and just hurry up in the meantime." She suggests.

After some thought, you type in names for your new team.

"Did you mean to type 'Coolie'?" Holly asks as she notices what you've done.

You glance down and sure enough, you've named Appline Coolie.

"I kind of like it." You admit. "Maybe I'm concussed, but hey, no big deal." You add.

"A concussion is no big deal." Holly states, looking at you doubtfully. "I think you still might be." She adds.

"We'll keep an eye on him." Fie notes from beside her. "Just don't go pushing yourself. You don't fuck around with concussions." she notes.

"Yeah, I know." You assure.

You walk along for a while, just talking about nothing in particular before Gareth takes position next of you.

"So, what happened exactly on the island?" He asks curiously.

You tell him about your dream, the cabin and your interactions with Henry.

Gareth's expression turns from open curiosity to awe as you describe the experience, before he shakes his head as you finish.

"Arceus... I guess the influence Henry Williams had on the Aura Guardians here took on a life of its own if he was that quiet and laid back." He says.

Gareth nodded.

"He did." He confirms.

"How did he influence them?" You ask.

"The Guardians are *very* protective of legendary pokemon and their homes." Gareth replies. "Henry Williams was infamously protective of this lake and the legendary, or legendaries, I guess, that made their home here." He explains.

Gareth shrugs.

"I'm just glad you're alright." He replies wryly.

"How does him breeding Riolu get him mistaken for an Aura Guardian though?" You ask. "Did it make it easier for him to sense aura?" You ask.

Gareth nods.

"Something like that. Training with a Lucario, you inevitably get into aura. To this day, Lucario are the favoured companions of Aura Guardians." He adds.

"I guess that makes sense." You admit. "So, is that outfit of yours indicative of an Aura Guardian?" You ask.

"Well, it's not like a uniform or anything, but it is required for one on pilgrimage." Gareth replies.

You keep talking as you walk and the sun creeps towards mid-morning. The sky is heavy with cloud, but it doesn't look like it'll rain for a while yet.

"Well, that's good at least." You say.

"We were going to do Truth or Dare though." Judy pitches in after a beat.

"Moment's gone, Judy." Martha says.

You see a shimmer off in the trees and you get the sense she wants to fly for a while.

"Feeling better?" Fie asks.

"Way better." You confirm. "Maybe we do Truth or Dare tonight?" You suggest.

"Yeah, now you're feeling better, no reason not to." Kathryn says.

You pull out your pokedex and start looking for campsites up ahead.

There're a few to choose from, from what you can see:

There's one within an hour's walk of where you are now but it'd mean you wouldn't be making it very far today.

On the opposite end of the scale, there's one you could make by three o'clock if you hurried, but there'd be no guarantee you could make it before the rain hit.

There's another site marked just past the picnic ground you're headed to for lunch, but you can't get a good look at it, which means it's either new, or not a lot of people stay there.

Alternatively, you could also try finding a relatively decent spot and carving out a campsite yourself, but that's really a last resort. It'll be hard to find a good spot for one thing and you'd be risking a rather stiff fine, considering this is technically a national park.

"Whatcha thinkin'?" Fie drawls as she falls back to walk beside you.

Gareth politely grops back to fall in beside Jean.

"Just seeing what the campsites are like up ahead." You reply.

"Fair." Fie says, nodding.

She looks like she wants to say something but is having trouble finding the words.

"Sorry for the messy delays." You say. "I know I keep getting in trouble." You add.

"Just don't go making a habit of it." She says. "The bit with Team Green, we already know how to fix. Trying to go after your rod like that, was kind of stupid though. What if that had been a Gyarados?" She asks.

She has a point and even if your line would've been long gone if it had been, in retrospect, going out to grab your line was not a good idea.

"Yeah, that wasn't the brightest thing I've ever done." You admit sheepishly.

You lapse into a comfortable silence as you walk. There's no recrimination or guilt, she just accepts your admission for what it is.

(Part 1)
>>
>>5183875

(Part 2)

"So... I've been thinking." She says at length.

"What about? A white dress and a twenty layer cake?" You ask lightly.

She punches you in the arm, making a face in response.

"No, this is serious." She says, then recomposes herself. "After we reach Saltcoast, I'm going to stay there for a while." She says.

You feel your heart sink.

You haven't exactly defined the relationship between you, but this still hurts.

"The town after Saltcoast is Redmont, where my dad's the leader." She explains. "So, unless you want to double back, you'll be facing him after me. And he has a tendency to be an asshole when it looks like I might be seeing someone." She adds. "We used to have guys along with us from time to time when we were travelling together, Martha, the others and I, but every time we reached Redmont, dad made a point of either scaring the living shit out of them with tales of what a rock crusher can do to a person, insisting they spar with his pokemon before challenging him, or just generally being a dick. So... we stopped travelling with guys."

>Okay, that's reasonable.
>So... I'll see you on the road after Redmont?

"Okay, that's reasonable." You admit.

It also makes you want to kick her dad's ass to prove the point, but if he's actually any good at martial arts, or even just half-decent, you could be in trouble if it came to that.

"Anything else I should know about your dad?" You ask.

"Well, I call him an idiot, but he's pretty shrewd." Fie admits. "He's also..." She hesitates. "Actually, nevermind, I'm not supposed to comment on internal League investigations." She ammends.

That tells you all you really need to know, even without details.

There's something shady about him.

"Well, it won't be the same without you, but hopefully, you'll be back with us before Halfway City." You say.

Fie gives you a smile, before you focus on walking again.

When you stop for lunch, nobody feels like wasting much time.

"That looked like a good spot we passed back there." Kathryn says at length.

"Yeah, but that would involve back tracking." Martha notes.

"The first one further on looks like it's a smaller spot." Kathryn says.

"There's another one." Martha says.

"It's *tiny*." Kathryn says. "And the next good one is even further, we're not going to make it before the rain hits."

You don't waste any time after lunch.

You don't quite run, but you're not far off it.

There's not much talking, but everyone is on the same page.

When Holly tires, she releases Latios and rides him instead.

You make good time and within about an hour, you arrive at a small, rough track leading off the main path and into the bush.

After following it a short way, you find a decent sized clearing that can just about support your tent and and a fire, if you clean out the dead wood and maybe more if you can clean out some of the blackberry patch that makes up the left side of the clearing.

One yields firewood and cleans up the space already there and the other one yields more space, but is decidedly more finnicky, because blackberry bushes have a lot in common with a tangle of razorwire.

Anyway, new thread shortly.
