Quick reminders to keep in mind for the quest. This is a DYNASTY quest. The Main Character WILL die BUT so long as you have descendants you will control one of them upon death. They are your literal spare lives so act accordingly. Don't be afraid to sacrifice MCs to specific goals or risky adventures so long as you have backups. Also, keep in mind that some descendants are better than others and may develop differently over time. Choosing someone younger to take over gives you more chances to customize them but they won't be as well developed as an older descendent however older descendent picks are much more set in their ways...

The point of the quest is to keep your dynasty alive and thriving. Exactly HOW you go about that is entirely up to anons and it's entirely possible to establish Branch Dynasties that deviate from the traditional approach or even overtake the main family(thereby becoming the new primary dynasty). Its also possible to switch MCs to one of those branches. Keep in mind it is ALSO possible to lose control of those branch dynasties and distant descendants thereby no longer being able to influence or control them.

Yes, it's possible to unleash autism and use eugenics on your own descendants. I would be more surprised if autistic anons didn't do this. Just keep in mind certain bloodlines don't play nice with each other and mixing too much also causes problems(there is a limit to how much a descendent can sustain before problems begin to arise also mixing conflicting bloodlines is very bad mkay). Basically, it can be surprisingly tricky if you want to optimize it. Yes, special bloodlines with their own special abilities/quirks DO exist. So have fun with that on top of magic and trying to optimize the usual physical stuff.

Wow, special limited option it is then.

Whereas most children were running about and playing. You spent your early most years by the side of your adoptive father whom you realized is the only elder remaining in the tribe. The old times were so dangerous and difficult that the rest of them simply didn't make it. From him, you learned of many things that now lay forgotten and destroyed. You learned of the old worlds with dying and full of glorious but dead 'civilizations'. From him, you learned of the chaos and destruction. The misery and despair as the worlds gradually laid to waste and died. From him, you learned from their destruction a new world was created but how devastating a process that was to endure. The precious few ancient things that somehow survived to the very end of their own world's demise...were not able to survive the birthing pains of a new world. Yet as they finally prepared to meet their demise at long last...they saw a flicker of hope they thought long lost.

New life.

A chance...not for themselves but to leave behind a heritage...if only things had been so simple. For there were things from beyond who noticed how fragile and vulnerable this newborn world was. So those long lost ancients and forlong dead arose one last time to match against them in a final battle and epochal eclipsing as their last flickering dying gasps of flames went out at long last. The ancients from those now lost, long dead, and from destroyed worlds were no more. Yet they succeeded. For their final sacrifice, they bought time and protection for the new life to prepare themselves for future struggles. Sadly these future struggles they would have to stand alone.

You listened to him. Even as you saw time finally begin to catch to him. the old wounds from those struggles proving to be too much. As he finally began to waste away. You were there the entire time, however. He told you many many things. Long forgotten secrets. Of glorious civilizations. Ruins of untold proportions. Ancient battlefields spanning the stars themselves. The journies of the newborn life who struggled to survive in the last dying gasps of survivors of dead worlds who spent what was left to give them a fighting chance in the future while things from beyond attempted to invade and take advantage of their newborn frailty, naiveness, and weakness.

Finally, on his dying bed, he told you his greatest secret of all. That he was never born of this world...that his own homeworld has long perished. That he was one of those ancients who survived the death of his world and the birth of this one only to safeguard it from the rest. He also told you the truth of your own origins and warned you of what lays beyond this world. Of the remains birthing process and the fight to protect the newborn world. Finally of the dangers of the things that now recuperate and are stranded here.

His stories were far more grand and incredible than the ones the other adults told. That was about the chaos, struggling to survive, and ever transforming terrain. His...you found hard to believe. Except he told you where you could find proof and places that you must avoid at all costs. Places that you must fight to protect, destroy, and secure for the sake of this very world and all life on it no matter the cost. You were just a kid and didn't realize what it all truly meant and the sheer overwhelming worth of what he shared with you.

Even when he told you the truth of your own origins didn't come nearly as a shock as everything else he shared. You were found in the wild yes but that was because you were made from the flesh of monsters and your soul formed from the spirits themselves. Yet you came out...a manling. Something distinctly new and different but by accident. Whoever heard of monsters or spirits making men...well as it turns out you DO have a sister who was born from spirits so you have heard of that. You have heard of stranger things, to be honest. Like fruit bearing children and babies being cracked open from rocks.

What you didn't expect was his later confession. That you were the result of a favor being repaid 'a life for life' but because you were born a man you were unable to stay and had to be sent away. Hence how you ended up in his care. So you asked does this mean you have other family relatives?

His answer?

Apparently, that was why you could see the spirits. You are kin to them. Why during your trips with the old shaman deep in the wilderness where nobody else dared tread but the greatest of monsters...the monsters left you alone. You thought it was because they feared the old man too deeply to target even a helpless child. It turned out you smelled like one of them.

You knew the old man was very close to death. Not being of this world but his life was saved before here and he used to be strong. Meanwhile there are so many other mysteries he told you about that are worth investigating and yet at the current rate your family is danger of being exiled from the tribe thanks to your family's waning influence in the tribe. Life is difficult and while you are kid its not like you are too young as to still be useless.

Perhaps other more immature children would have tried to find a means to delay the inevitable but you knew this was an extremely long time coming and was the natural end. So you spent what time was left by his side to the very end. He didn't share as much as he before since was at that time very sick, slept a lot, and could speak little. What he told you though was invaluable he told you that resources and even people would be strongest now but over time they would wane. Their potency and richness would dwindle as the world ages and grows ever more exhausted. The same is true for even species and bloodlines. Right now it is its most plentiful and most powerful but sadly nobody knows how to properly utilize it.

He even begins to teach you about magic and the dangers of knowledge. Some knowledge is meant for your mind and can be handled some simply are not. Therefore there are consequences and dangers involved when trying to use it. The same extends to magic and even blood. The things that are the most valuable are those with the highest compatibility. Sure you could learn to say USE undead magic...but high how is your compatibility with it when you are one of the living? What of the consequences of using it? The side effects? While it is indeed a shortcut to borrow the knowledge and spells of others it will cost you dearly in the long run because its potential is limited for you(since it was never even meant for your kind) and the side effects are dire.

Sadly starting from scratch is the safest and best in the long run but the hardest to get started and with the greatest risks early on. Since you have no idea what you are doing. Thus the old man spends his final days carefully guiding you in the ways of magic and the ways to discover even more knowledge. If you were a lonely oddball before by now you are certainly an outcast of the tribe. Yet how many know how to use magic and can even differentiate it?

Pioneering magic. All magic starts off as Wild magic due to be undiscovered and hence unpredictable. Once successfully pioneered the magic path and tradition begins to stabilize learn to Pioneer magics. Pioneer magics once invested in enough will become normal magics that depending on discoveries, advancements, and investments will have their own specialties and perks while being much safer with minimal side effects.

Being so close to someone once so powerful in magic and so close to death. Learning magic for yourself. You can feel your own senses begin to change. No longer are your keen senses so limited. You are more apt to notice magic and more things. You also noticed that while the tribe ignores the old man...there are other 'things' that you previously missed that did not. The spirits you noticed slowly gathered as he drew closer to death. As night fell you could hear things creeping ever closer and lurking that normally went bump in the night. Anyone else would have been alarmed by what approached yet with your new magical senses and from the stories he told you realized what they were.

One night you chose to stay up late in order to see these 'guests' with your very own eyes for yourself. Others would have balked at the idea but you knew that they meant no harm. So late that night you sneaked over and peeked inside to see what was coming to visit him nightly. What you saw shocked you to the core. Inside that cramped room, the room was stuffed 'full' of undead and monsters. Their creaking bones and wispy forms piled on top of each other to give room. To a few scarred monsters who reeked of carnage and quiet contemplation along with...odd reminiscence and regret.

You realized what they were all from his stories. The Living Dead. The Awari awoke to fight endlessly against the tides of invasion. Many more...all quietly stood in a silent vigil around him. Giving space to the old man and a single special guest who quietly took care of him. A strange willowy monstrosity yet eerily beautiful that for some reason smelled oddly familiar to you and whose voice was like a bizarre melody.

"Hah...to break...our agreement like this...you got guts," he gasps.

"No...you just got too old and weak to stop me," sighs the monster after cleaning him up. "tell me you are powerful enough to know when the reaper will arrive so don't tell me I'm too soon?"

"Rubbing it all in...all of you...fucking...bastards...not even one last fight or to put me out of my misery," he grumbles. "The reaper...you don't have to worry. You have arrived right in time...but I must beseech you about our son."

"Ooho that was supposed to be the responsibility of you and yours, not mine. For what reason could you possibly request this for?" the monster inquires pausing.

"For old times sake and because...I'm afraid he will have no one else to rely upon," the old man admits.

"Old times? That's rich considering how many times we tried to kill each other," snorts the monster but pauses to consider the last word. "...Is he in danger?"

"He knows about forgotten secrets and other realms. Tapping into newborn magic and growing too familiar with death too young. What do you think hag?"

"...You know I am also not long for this world," admits the monster.

"Longer than me and long enough to see him grown."

"Somehow despite being so weak and both feet in the grave you are still such a pain in my ass," grumbles the monster. "Fine. Strange to see you get so soft in your old age."

"Hmph, the same could be said about you too. We both grew old and soft tired from all the struggles and fighting...soon it will be time to rest and leave the rest up to the brats."

"You got that right...I'm getting way too old for this shit anymore," agrees the monster as you sneak away back to bed.

The next night you notice the guests are back but they also change...all except for one who comes back every night to keep the old man company and tends to his needs personally. You listen in on them too. As they speak of the old days and you realize that the two of them were once sworn enemies ages ago but now...things have changed. You also hear of the other guests but what little you know of those extinct tongues makes it hard to pick up on but you do gradually learn more overtime during the night and more lessons during the day. The old man sleeping more and more makes it easy for you to nap yourself.

Finally one day things change. The spirits who are gathered around him during the day and the ghosts at night had mysteriously opened up a clear passageway. When you tried to peer in he warned you not to look. Saying that his time was soon and it was best for someone so young to gaze into the face of death itself. A few nights later he insisted that stayed with him for the night and on that night for the last time the two of you talk animatedly for the last time. He was in such good shape he even helped you make something. A bizarre looking totem crafted from wood, bone, scale, feathers, and carapace.

When out of nowhere he suddenly chose to go on a walk with you late at night. You agreed since you knew his special guests were no doubt keeping an eye on things and despite it being so late things would be fine. Except for this time for some reason...you couldn't identify the path you took. There were ghosts and spirits that abound. The trees and plants gradually faded away into dying plants and barren earth. Finally, you could see the scattered bones and remains of many dead. Yet the old man kept on walking and talking just like years ago when he was still hale and hearty.

He kept on walking even past many dead who were awake and either ignored your passage...or even saluted or bowed to the old man. Eventually, your walk ended before a broken canyon and a river you have never seen before past countless shattered ruins whose age who had no idea. On the river was a ferry and a boat with a shrouded figure quietly waiting for him. The old man finally paused here right before the shattered doorway that led to the doorway and turned back to give you a hug before speaking some final words.

"As a mortal who still draws breath...there are many affairs of the dead you should be wary to know...but as a new world the underworld is a new concept...this place isn't your underworld. It's mine from my old extinct world. Even worlds die. Immortals cannot avoid the reaper forever. Not even the underworlds can stay. For someone so young and from a newborn world to know so much about the end...even I don't know what consequences this will have on you and your progeny. Goodbye son."

With that, the old man steps through the door and appears on the last boat which proceeds to head down the river to go through the closing door. You find yourself being grabbed by some undead who begin to carry you away in a rush. You could see why when you notice the entire underworld previously so desolate and dead...begins to rapidly crumble and fall apart. Rapidly breaking down as you hear an ancient sigh of the last will waiting for countless eons for this very moment...to finally be put out of its long awaited misery.

So this finally cycle ends

You could see the passageway that was miraculously intact ahead but...you couldn't help but look back. to see the shrouded figure quietly help the old man through the last doorway from the boat as the last bits of the underworld shatters but not before the shrouded figure looks directly at you and tosses you something before closing the door behind them. Meanwhile, the undead even as they also crumble and disappear push you through the doorway and into the strange passageway. You watch helplessly as the underworld disappears before your very eyes as you are caught by something and realize that you are holding something.

"Well, who do we have here...an unexpected living guest who has seen the death of an underworld? Now THAT is most unexpected," suddenly cackles a voice behind you as you are too busy weeping to notice you were not alone. "Not every day we get living guests and rarer still to see an underworld perish but one who witnesses both at the same time? I could very well be the first."

Looking behind you see a shrouded figure standing over you that seems to be still cackling with its disturbing raspy voice. "Ooh...one who even understands the Dead Tongues. Well aren't you an interesting find...and what is that you are holding...oh my well isn't that a unique treasure. If you wish to return to the living just go on through that passage and you will return to whence you came. I cannot promise you still live if you go any deeper even with that treasure. Not while you are still so weak."

"...You are the one who guided us here."

"Oof. Busted. Hah...strange you shouldn't have been able to see me back then. Well then again I have no idea what going through that will do to you so who knows now," shrugs the reaper.

"Why take me along?"

"...my duty is merely to ensure the dead enter the underworld not my fault said deadman insisted on going through a very special passageway. Besides it was a special request and I had no other jobs lined up. Hopefully we won't see each other again too soon eh kid?" With that the reaper walks deeper down the passageway. While you head the other way and soon exit it to find yourself someplace you have never seen before but barely recall heading through.

Yet here you also found someone waiting for you. The exact same monster that would show up every night. In the distance you could see roaming undead no doubt the 'guards' to the passage to the underworld. While around you seems to be some kind of shrouded canyon.

"Come on let's take you home," calls forth the monster.

"...Are you really my mother?"

"My scent should tell you the answer."

"..."

"No other questions?"

"Would you answer them?"

"Maybe."

"...Considering you abandoned me I have my doubts."

"...It was better for you to be in the world of men than the world of monsters. I didn't expect you to make such...peculiar choices at such a young age."

"Stuff relating to death, forgotten secrets, other realms, and ancient knowledge?"

"..."

"Just take me home."

Upon your return you find out the old man's body had 'mysteriously' disappeared. When he had been found dead in the evening days ago...oddly enough that evening you worth him and chatting deep into the night. Turned out he past away before your very eyes and you didn't even realize it at the same since he was so animated. Your family was concerned that you had 'also' disappeared and then his body vanished. Rumors abound about you being involved in necromancy or other dark arts. Considering how you appeared safe and sound a week later without a scratch. You just ignored them as usual.

Now without the old man around...you aren't entirely sure what to do with yourself.

Still a kid. You do not yet know how you age exactly when compared to others. You are no longer a little kid and can do chores. There are a few more time skips before you become a teenager but not many.

I wasn't expecting anons to go all-in for the antiquated knowledge or delve into death. That is quite the surprise, especially considering how dangerous magic is early on and the world is so young necromancy hasn't had a chance to snowball. On the plus side absolutely 0 side effects for necromancers. Not to mention the lack of development to take advantage of all that knowledge but now you get a headstart to certain developments and know about a TON of secrets.

Currently, the MC is an awkward nerd who can and will blast someone with magic and knows lots of(obscure) things. He severely lacking in everything else but you are still a kid and can easily fix that. VERY unusual for an early stone age tribe. Anyone who thinks the MC is weak is going to be in for a very nasty surprise. He is lacking in common knowledge though and a lot of his knowledge is too obscure or advanced to be easily utilized.

Sounds like we stumbled into a nascent dark sorcerous overlord build. Let's make a plan. Step 1 Become friends with actual death and maybe learn some more secrets from It. Step 2 creates a philosophy that accepts and is positive about death being a friend. Step 3 worship nothing. Step 4 write everything down. Step 4 spend our life building a family that will last till the death of the universe itself. Step 5 creates magic greater than necromancy where death is as simple to understand and manipulate as turning over a hand (alla that one slan from Warhammer Old where all we have to do is decide we are no longer dead and we stop being dead). Step 6 die content and be surrounded by our friends while passing on our greatest secrets to the family we love best.

Not much of a spoiler for necromancy cause it's obvious but necromancy grows more powerful the older the world is because its power is based on the amount of the dead. Young worlds have far less dead than old worlds ergo far weaker. Necromancy is something that snowballs big time the more dead there are. Hence never fight a necromancer in a graveyard that is just begging to get raped.

If you wanna go full Overlord then check out the monsters then the fun will really begin. If you wanna have fun with necromancy visit a different realm and experience its true power. Necromancy right now is nerfed cause not enough dead but that makes it the safest time to study and master. That or find someone stupid enough to fight you in a graveyard or a battlefield in which case they deserve what's coming. Like fighting a water mage in an ocean.

He warned you against Undead Magic. Undead magic is not the same as necromancy but they are related. Undead magic is tainted by undeath. His wariness of necromancy stems from the fact that he came from a dying world where all the necromancers were OP as hell because of it.

Wild magic is the Origin of ALL magic. All magic starts off as a Wild Magic before it gets 'tamed'(studied and specialized).

Necromancy side effects will take ages(literally) to kick in and start off tiny. It only grows stronger the closer the world is to dying. Basically, it's going to be a while before it becomes a legit concern for your dynasty.

Everyone in your family assumed you shut down because of your father growing ill and dying. Hence retreating into a shell and becoming an oddball. So it was quite a surprise and huge relief to them to see you finally come out of your shell. The fact that you actually knew magic made you an only a bare handful of people in the entire village and the fact that you were a child made you hands down the youngest and a genius. Plus if anyone had any funny ideas you knew some VERY frightening spells. The only problem is the shaman definitely doesn't like you. He was relieved that the old man finally bit the dust only for it to turn that he raised an apprentice at the very last second. Never mind the fact that the old man's magic is not the same as yours.

You know the reason why for that but you doubt any of them would believe you. The only magic you have in common with him is Spirit Magic and he only really taught you the basics...sort of. A lot of it you had to figure out yourself due to differing 'magical laws' from his world. Which was worthless in this new one as a native rather than an outsider. Still, it was good enough to help out at home but times you noticed in the family were...very lean.

Simply put you realized you were fucking broke as shit. A big adopted family. No income. A bunch of little mouths to feed. Previously the tribe shelled out because an old man knew magic but he got replaced and died. No one was really willing to help out except a couple of family friends. Even with your magic...you realized it wasn't nearly enough.

Wild magic was too...unpredictable. Necromancy was...well you were trying to help the living not kill them or help the dead instead. Spirits and monster magics you weren't very good at. All your knowledge as rare and obscure as it is does not put food in your belly and prevent you from freezing to death. For the first time much to your misery...you realize your knowledge doesn't help you survive.

Sure if you were trapped in some gods forsaken ruin yeah maybe but alas. You needed food. You needed shelter. Warmth. Water. Company. Ect. All basics to survival and...none of what you had was nearly enough. You used to be so proud of your knowledge but any other kid was more helpful to you. They at least we're much better at foraging and chores.

So your foolish pride, hubris, and ignorance built up over the years were completely crushed in a matter of months when you realized just how useless you are and dependent on your already struggling family who humored your childishness all this time. Probably to give the old man some company most likely whereas other kids were forced to do chores...

Your family is in a very difficult position. There was nobody grown who could take charge. The closest to adulthood were your two elder sisters and an older brother. There is no way to pay for a dowry and unless you wish to sell yourselves into slavery to feed yourselves...none of you may be related by blood but none of you are that uncaring for each other. The old man raised you better than that. So your biggest brother was thinking of rushing his adulthood hunt to prove himself but not only is it dangerous he would need to choose an easy season and year which would make him look weak and cowardly. Your older sisters could attempt to marry themselves off but you know one of them has a crush on brother and the other...honestly you aren't sure about her tastes besides her having a very good bff who is a frightening girl.

Although you can probably blame the fact that her friend's dad is a berserker and Mom is a cannibal. They have oddly enough despite arguably being the most infamous family in the tribe actually the most helpful and kind to your own. You know your old man knew her Dad from the journies and how he was a VERY mighty warrior even by his standards. Definitely the strongest in the tribe in fact and arguably the entire area if not region. He did not know her mother or where the hell she came from but warned you about her moreso than the father.

You didn't really understand why until your magical abilities grew...and you understood why. Cannibalism is the LEAST of that bitch's concerns. You haven't seen anyone in the entire tribe radiate that kind of bad mojo shamans and even monsters included. If she weren't so nice and unwilling to see your entire family starve to death you feel like you should be more concerned. Instead you desperately hope she doesn't realize that you know.

Funny that people fear her father more than the mother...

Still, at least the daughter is nice and close to your big sis. She also gave advice to your older brother that you overheard on the best season to hunt. She herself chose winter which is the hardest for her solo adulthood and proved herself as the first one since desperate times. to add insult to injury it was a very harsh winter that year and her prize was huge. According to her, an adult hunt one has to hunt 'solo' but that doesn't mean it has to be without 'help' or 'company' that you find in the wild. Only that you cannot have the support of your own kind or that forfeit the right of a Solo Hunt to Hunt with a Pack. That was merely the highest difficulty hunt you could just choose an easier one.

...that made you think. You had magic. You knew you could find 'allies' in the wild and there were no rules that you technically HAD to reach adulthood to go through that hunt. Everyone just assumed you had to be an adult and wanted to be treated like to do it. To 'prove' yourself. The more you think about it...the less improbible it seems.

You choose to spend the next few months doubling down on your magic. Thanks to it being wild magic is a miserable process due to how unpredictable it is. You long lost count of how many times you accidentally exploded, set on fire, frozen, zapped, transformed, or otherwise afflicted by some random chaos with the goal of pioneering magic. Honestly made you appreciate your other magics a LOt more. Sure it's weaker but fuck at least it's nice safe and best of all predictable.

It being predictable was something that about moved you to tears. Wild magic is dangerous, yes but ALL magic is dangerous...at least the others are predictable. You shudder at what the old man mentioned about 'chaos magic'. Something even more of a mess than Wild Magic? The horror. THE HORROR.

You even made some advances on your spirit magic which was the expertise of your father and monster magic. These two you immediately noticed were more powerful and felt stable yet you could already feel the side effects despite such early progress. As you were neither wholly a spirit or monster but other. It was not meant for your kind. Yet it was so easy and powerful...you can understand now why he warned about it being a crutch and easy temptation that will backfire on you in the long run. You felt none of that with wild magic or necromancy as if it was...natural.

Hm. Still the months passed by and you realized that without a teacher your progress was going to be limited in the short term. You will need a new objective as you recall there are two options. Assuming your big sister would stop naked wrestling with her girlfriends in the bath, bed, and 'trips' outside that you learned the hard way was an excuse to just wrestle more when you went out to practice your spells. At least your big brother has an excuse of practicing to be a gigolo or babymaking according to your sister's friend whatever that means. To think her talent for spirit magic would go to waste like that...and chores. She would have been so much more helpful but you had other magics to practice for her...hobbies?

This leaves you with another idea. Your magic is a lot stronger now but it won't be able to get much stronger in the short term only in the long term which is time you do not have. Yet the top predators as anyone knows are the monsters. Who better to learn from to hunt? You just gotta avoid the bad ones and go for the familiar smelling ones that you recognize shouldn't be that hard since you caught their scent over the years. Oh, how wrong you were.

MONTHS. Months of sniffing the ground and getting lost. The monsters you knew withdrew to lick their wounds after the upheaval and recuperate like everyone else but you had no idea how annoying it would be to actually find them.

For top predators, you would think they would be more active or cover a lot more ground than you realized. Maybe they just aren't recovering as quickly. You don't know you just it took you ages to find the bastards and you kept getting lost...then again considering how many times you found out the hard way that you were actually going in circles...you really only have yourself to blame since you never bothered to actually learn any of this stuff before. Even kids younger than you were better at not getting lost, foraging, and even hunting.

Still, it was a good experience at least...well maybe not for the first month or two. The hunger kept you going back. The missed game that you could have blasted with a spell. The missed forage that you stumbled over. All while slowly figuring out where those damned monsters were hiding. Eventually, you realized just 'why' it was so hard to fucking find them. If it was just magic or lack of skills you would understand but you severely underestimated them. There was a reason why all the hunters and everyone else feared monsters so much. Monsters as it turned out were fucking MADE to be the top predator. Their ability to hide. To ambush. To kill. Was all peerless. Everyone and everything to them is forever prey.

The reason why you never found them was obvious. They knew you were searching the entire time and purposefully kept out of the way making sure you didn't run into anything you couldn't handle until finally caught them entirely by accident as it turned out. That day you were exhausted but found traces of a nearby spirit spring. Figuring you could use a break and a bath. Not to mention it would be nice to see what the spirits might know. They were the ones who pointed out how sneaky those damned monsters were and the dead how deadly after all.

You approached and stumbled upon a group of monsters bathing in the spiritual waters of the spring. These monsters you noticed were different. They radiated magic and...you caught the familiar scent but it was weak and it was at that very moment being washed off them. Meaning they had just encountered the monsters you were looking for and considering how the spirits were cool with them you knew they couldn't be 'too hostile'. Turned out they were just like your damned sister and her girlfriends with their love of naked wrestling. Except for this time they wanted you to join in and were oddly disappointed when they discovered that you were too 'young' for some reason despite how 'cute' you were resulting in them pouting in frustration.

Apparently, naked wrestling was also a popular pastime that crossed racial boundaries who knew?

So you got to chatting after bathing together and they found out your story. Not only did they have an idea of who 'might' be the monsters you were searching for they were even deeply touched about you wishing to hunt for your family despite your youth and weakness. Even offered to join you in your hunt and search for the monsters in exchange for some future favors that included for some reason a very strong insistence on 'naked wrestling' when you were 'old enough' to join them.

You told them you would think about it when you were older and they accepted before telling you some spots where those monsters typically nested. Turns out the easiest place to find them is their nests. Which they offered to take you around. The nests were VERY well hidden as monsters knew other monsters had keen senses and would choose spots that could cover it up. Hence why you never found them until now. With their help over the next few weeks, you visited many locations and crossed them until finally found it.

What you didn't expect was for it to be a beautiful overgrown vale and the scent in that vale was overpowering and mixed with other familiar yet more subdued scents. The monsters that guided you there were shocked and alarmed when they finally realized 'which' monsters exactly you were seeking. You asked them why and they told you this was the resting place of one of the very last standing Monster Swarm Queens.

...that would explain why you kept on finding the scent fucking everywhere and yet at the same time failed to find anyone. It belonged to a swarm leader. You hadn't heard of any of them since the old folks were young. Everyone thought they all died out turned out some were still around and now...you are right smack dab in their nest. Oops.

A hulking monster soon climbed down from a nearby peak and chittered at you before pausing. It froze and stood still to wait. Until a familiar monster emerged from a nearby tree to take a look at you.

"Ooh well well to think you would find me thanks to the aid of other monsters. Here I was hoping you would catch one of my other children to guide you or find your way here yourself. Damn spirits just had to ruin my fun."

However, the monsters keep an eye on you and guide you to prey. It was easy to wrack up experience and learn how to better use magic. Yet oddly they introduced to you a strange kind of 'fighting styles' meant for those with 'monster blood' or those touched by 'monster heritage'. It was the first time you were taught to fight physically and you were dumb enough to pick the absolute worst possible opponents. Unsurprisingly were completely and utterly destroyed.

People really underestimate just how sadistic monsters are in those stories they tell. At least in the fucking stories the monsters KILL and EAT you in the end thereby putting you out of your misery. That was them being 'nice'...you cannot imagine what actual monster 'cruelty' is like.

By now though winter is finally coming and it's a brutal one. Yet you couldn't care less at this point. You managed to sneak enough food from your monster trips that your family is in better shape but not all of it since who would believe you were capable of it? Damned monsters ate well that's for damn sure...supposedly you have some 'savings' with the monsters now and spend it whenever but what can monsters possibly offer? Who would trade with monsters? Bah. You even had enough to last the winter and can help your family scrape by...if you were satisfied with that but you may draw attention or you could go big. Take on the solo hunt this winter or wait until next year on a different easier season if you wanna play it safe.

Then you leave with nothing but a small pack on your back as you stop by the home of the only people strong enough to take back your kills this winter and crazy enough to also hunt in dead of winter for fun. Luckily they are still home and haven't left yet. Although as you approach you can tell her parents are also engaging in naked wrestling...no wonder she is always finding other things to do. When you set out to hunt you could not believe your luck. Winter is the hardest time to hunt. Everything is either hibernating and gone or mean and desperate. Throw in the terrible cold and whether there is a reason why nobody likes to hunt in winter. Yet not only did you manage to quickly stumble upon some friendly monsters but even a nearby old battlefield full of ancient warriors whom you made an interesting discovery. It was a den of no ordinary beast nor monster.

Dragons.

Normally you wouldn't want to fight something like that but...well you have a lot of help and this dragon is an Elder Drake and Wyrms nearby. Hell, there is even a flight of wyverns if that wasn't within your interest there is a REAL dragon prowling nearby. A full-blooded pure breed had recently taken up a roost and its wounded. Although pure blooded dragons are known to be intelligent and won't be easy to full or hunt. Not to mention it might be a terrible idea to make an enemy of Dragonkind. They really REALLY know how to hold a grudge according to the old man and have insanely long memories. This is why you are instead considering a Hydra. Sure a Hydra is normally impossible to hunt considering its size, power, and regeneration but...imagine how much you could harvest from its regenerating body? Assuming you catch the bastard.

You choose Hydra. A very risky and dangerous proposition but most importantly it will be a very short hunt since after you capture it you won't be able to afford to hunt anything else lest it breaks free. Meaning you will be able to return right away. Luckily the cold slows the Hydra down and the ice in the waters forces it out of its usual defensive haunts. The hard part is the Hydra knows this too and keeps a low profile. Too bad you already found traces of the Hydra's secret lair which is well hidden in a nearby hot springs in a nearby mountainous forest.

Unluckily for the Hydra you find a great ambush spot for the Hydra when it goes out to hunt. Unlike other overgrown reptiles the Hydra's insane regeneration forces it to feed throughout the winter but Hydra's are also not picky eaters. They'll eat anything in fact thanks to their very potent acids. As you see the Hydra approach you realize...this is not a small Hydra. It had over a dozen heads. Three tails. Six legs. All hissing and looking around warily. Too bad for the Hydra danger is below.

As the snow and ice below it explode upward revealing undead outsiders who attack. Catching it completely off guard but it reacts slowly thanks to the cold and surprise. Shifting away as it relies upon its regeneration it recovers from the many wounds the undead inflicted before counterattacking the undead. Distracting the Hydra from danger from above. As monsters quietly crept closer through the trees and leaped onto the hydra directly to join in the fighting.

Seeing the amount of damage the undead and monsters inflicted you were certain that not even a Dragon could survive this amount of punishment...alas it was no dragon you are dealing with but a Hydra. Its regeneration ensured its fighting condition and its wrath devastated the undead ranks. Sadly its attempts to strike terror into their unbeating frozen hearts were impossible and they never flinched despite the losses. The monsters meanwhile took advantage to start trying to tie up the hydra with their webbing and vines. Sadly the Hydra was too strong and not worn out enough to be tied down yet.

That was your cue to join in. As you cast spells to distract the hydra. Say what you will about wild magic. It was VERY distracting due to how random it is and this time you got lucky. Best of all necromancy could SLOW down how fast it could regenerate. The slower it regenerated the weaker it became. It was a careful balancing act of keeping the Hydra distracted with wild magic without blowing yourself up in the process and unleashing enough necromantic spells to retard its regeneration to wear it out faster without stopping the regeneration completely. Basically a huge magical challenge for you AND you had to dodge its damned biting heads and acid sprays at the same time...if you hadn't been through the hellish monster practice.
You would have died.

Thankfully you were not slow on your feet and you were tough thanks to that monstrous torture. You so ducked, dodged, rolled, swung, danced, and ran through the trees while dodging its biting heads and acid sprays sizzling all around you. The entire time you never stopped casting spells. As the monsters climbed all over the Hydra, attacking, and trying to tie it up. Sometimes they get thrown off or crushed. Most of the losses came from the undead underneath who kept on stabbing and slashing the Hydra's legs and underbelly. Forcing it to divert its focus from its tender underbelly since organs are a lot more costly to fix.

Slowly but surely the Hydra was slowly getting tied up and exhausted from the countless wounds that were regenerating slower and slower. On top of all the poison that the monsters inflicted and the few tricks, the few undead standing could unleash. Sadly Hydras are known for their insane endurance, toughness, and foremost their regeneration. So instead of a swift battle, it turned into a very time consuming marathon. As ropes were broken and reminded. Undead slowly ground down and the monsters wearing out. Forcing them to take turns. Even you struggled but unlike them, you couldn't afford to take a break because your magic was the reason Hydra's healing was slowing down so much. If you stopped it would quickly recuperate and this would all be for nothing.

The problem is you are slowing down and you are tired. Your head is killing you from too much magic. The hydra's attacks are getting closer and closer to hitting you. Especially as more of your help dying or forced to take a break. Resulting in more of its focus being drawn on you. You need to find some way to end this. Soon. You know the Hydra is covered in countless wounds and is currently too bound to escape but not enough to no longer be able to fight back. That is the problem.

How it works is you make offerings to things like spirits, gods, ect and in exchange, they offer you a boon. Right now you are asking for something before paying and thus are in debt to them. Making it impossible to acquire future aid until the debt is repaid.

Other factions will abuse the fuck out of this mechanic to gain blessings when doing shit on a regular basis because boons and blessings are amazing buffs and can bail your ass out of the fire when used correctly. However, it's never for free. You have to pay for it.

It's why religious factions have a serious headstart but are constantly in debt. Also keep in mind WHO you are indebted to and what you pray to. Demons for example are known to never refuse but oh man are they hellish debtors to have.

Spirits are a pretty basic and starter option but their neutral and decent all rounders. That doesn't mean there aren't powerful spirits comparable to Gods its just tricky to find and entice them as, unlike Gods, they do not obsess over things like Worship for instance.

It's worth noting that thanks to helping to witnessing the death of an Underworld you are owed a Single Powerful Boon from the Dead. In addition, the monsters owe you a minor favor from the extra food and materials they got from your practicing. Cause no currency it's a barter and favor exchange based system right now.

Only if you make a pact. Most spirit magic is actually the result of mimicking how the spirits utilize their powers via magic. Spirit magic is in truth a very LARGE group of magics. Even Demon magic is technically a type of Spirit Magic just a more specialized variant. It is also possible to make a deal with spirits to help you with magic usually in exchange for mana or other forms of payment.

You throw every last speck of mana you have into a wild magic spell hoping you can finish off the damned hydra before things get any worse. The damned thing is clearly trying to outlast you all and it's working. Sadly right as you feel a massive influx of mana buildup and the spell form...you can feel the spell already going awry because of wild magic. In desperation and panic, you call upon the spirits to aid you in exchange for payment later. The spirits answer you but they demand payment as you can feel their mana and guidance fixing the flux in the spell just barely. Preventing a catastrophic failure but sadly not quite enough to make it go off without a hitch.

The spell forms creating what looks like a vortex forming in the snow that suddenly slams into the hydra and begins to encase it slowly hardening into ice. Sadly right now it's nothing but snow and therefore not as effective. Eventually, though it will completely encase the hydra in ice. The only problem is you aren't sure if you can last that long. Especially with how the Hydra reacts and how utterly exhausted you are thanks to that spell.

The Hydra goes ballistic. Thrashing around and finishing off the remaining undead. Leaving only you and the monsters. The monsters for their effort try to slow down the hydra with more of their webbing and attacks but it's clear they're exhausted and the loss of the undead has them reeling who used to be their meatshields. As a result, they are now taking losses. While the Hydra is suddenly acting as if it is enjoying a second wind. This is a real possibility as the lack of damage intake is finally allowing it to catch up with its regeneration.

You know the monsters are getting exhausted and don't have the numbers to keep taking losses. You yourself are also exhausted. While the Hydra is beginning its counterattack. Even with the webbing, wounds, and heavy magical snow slowly hardening into ice. It still has a lot of fighting spirit left in it. You...may end up losing but you still have a chance to escape with your life if you leave now.

Dragon has no reason to accept since it doesn't know who you are. Now if you had rep with dragons than yeah it would be possible. Right now you only have a rep with Undead and Monsters. Along with a small local tribe since you are antisocial. All you did is hunt and there isn't much to interact with when you hunting or obsessively training. If you invested into charisma instead of magic your options would be a LOT better in terms of going into debt. At least you aren't a fragile magic user but a tanky one.

You could try to reach out to the monsters but the debt they owe isn't big enough to deal with a Hydra all over again. After all, they also want a share. Another option is burning the boon with the dead but just to warn you the boon you have is REALLY strong.

Basically, if you wanna go into debt then your only options are Undead or Monsters. Spirits are already tapped out and you haven't interacted with them enough for them to be willing to offer you additional credit. See being a charisma specced character is actually REALLY helpful in this Quest. Reputation and favors are a huge deal in addition to the usual diplomacy. So Charisma specialized characters are no joke and not by any means weaklings. Get the shit beat out of you because they have a lot of friends and favors to call in are strong.

Correction the debt the monsters owe you isn't large enough to cover them sending you reinforcements. You DO have enough pull for them to help you out but you will owe them since the amount they owe you isn't large enough to cover it.

The dead owe you are a VERY large Boon. You can choose to expend it on the hydra but...well you could always just take debt now to repay later and save that major boon for later for when you really need it or want a huge boost to something.

I should say though that the undead and monsters aren't the funnest factions to owe. In fact they have a downright terrible reputation and are generally a hostile faction. You gained access to the undead thanks to your choices same is true with monsters. They would normally be restricted but your dynasty may lose access to them depending on the choices you make later on(see they only like the current MC).

Monsters offer the best predators since this is a hunt they would offer the best direct boost.
Undead are all about being too fucking stubborn to stay dead and never forget but sleepy/disconnected to use it. They would offer some tanky overpowered mofos that would keep YOU alive and possibly some forgotten tricks if they aren't senile.

In terms of debt the only difference it makes is how to repay it. Monsters are easier to repay than undead because monsters still have living requirements. Undead do not which makes it very annoying since common means of payment are worthless to them(see wtf do the undead want with food?)

You have been warned about the dangers of overdrawing magic but it's the only way. The monsters remaining might not be enough to finish this especially since you only cast a single spell more and it will have consequences. If you don't it will all be for nothing and yet you need something more to tip the balance into your favor. The damned Hydra just doesn't fucking stop. No wonder they are so feared and hardly anyone is stupid enough to hunt one.

...Well until you anyway, but you have one more way. This will put you into debt with the monsters but you can get some reinforcements to finish off the hydra. So you call out to the monster who shrieks into the air. At first, nothing happens as you prepare your last spell. Then you could 'feel' it. A towering hungering presence coming from above and the hydra felt it too. It panicked and screeched ignoring everyone else including you. Who it was previously just trying to eat in a desperate attempt to defend itself. When something slammed down onto it from above like a meteor.

This gave you the perfect opportunity to focus everything in your last spell while the Hydra was too distracted with its new foe and even the other monsters were busy trying to finish tying it off. Your spell went off and you could feel the ground quake as earth that was previously shaking from the impact from above starts to rattle again this time coming from below. As a jagged edge of rocks slams into the wailing hydra from below. Caught between the predator from above. Stony impalement from below, and the hardening ice. The Hydra was finally overwhelmed as the mixture of ice, webbing, vines, earth, and its wounds finally overpowered the gigantic beast. So it finally collapsed.

Giving you just enough time to glimpse at the monster that came to aid you in its hulking armored and winged form before passing out from overdrawn mana exhaustion and tiredness. As it rose from the whirlwind of snow, acid, and blood. When you awoke you pleased the find the Hydra still there albeit now neatly packaged in a giant ball of carefully broken stone, tied in webbing, and ice casing. Next to a small fire and then apparently you were both rolled over closer to the tribe some distance but not very far lest others notice the GIANT FUCKING HYDRA encased in its...new cage. Shit, where are you gonna put that?

Yet the feeling that you survived and succeeded...was incredible. Sure you cannot afford to hunt anything else as it's only a matter of time before the Hydra wakes up and recovers from its wounds enough to escape. Meaning someone has to be around to keep it hurting and harvest from it in the process. Sure enough, you see a few monsters prowling nearby who approach you. Despite having passed out you still feel a migraine, sore, and tired. You had a very long walk back home.

After confirming that you now owed them. That the monsters already took their share of meat from the hydra and at the same time kept it 'sedated'. Luckily part way there you encountered some raiders with a certain berserker who just 'happened' to be out hunting with his daughter who confirmed your feats and newfound achievements as well as rights. Nobody would have believed it if they hadn't seen for their own eyes the captive Hydra or the fact that you were capable of the magic used to take it down.

Although for some reason you could swear the father and daughter pair looked like they were about to cry and kept on giving you funny looks for some reason. Still, you were now a living legend. Your are not dumb you listened to the stories and know the peace of this place is temporary. Especially with such a juicy prize.

"Damn brat I thought with you knowing magic you would know better and check first. Especially since it was so strong and obviously dangerous," she mutters and picks it up from the ground.

Something to keep in mind, especially with a juicy prize like a captive Hydra making you a raid target.

Yet at the same time, you also needed to pay off what you owed to the spirits and monsters. The monsters already made it clear they didn't mind waiting a few years and extending your credit until you were an adult. Apparently, they had some...ideas about repayment when you were old enough then and didn't mind waiting. The spirits on the other hand will not offer any assistance until their repayment. Which means making an offering and appeasing them. Until then they will no longer offer any assistance.

Still, now you had plenty of time to do stuff and no real worries pressing down on you in terms of survival. Well except for the security of your new wealth and paying off debts. Beyond that you can do whatever you want so what will you focus on?

Looks like the MC is staying on the path of being an antisocial oddball for now. Choosing multiple options is viable but keep in mind there will be a smaller bonus compared to one big bonus if you focus on a single task. This is less so during timeskip sessions because you have plenty of time to do a lot of shit.

One thing I want to point out before I forget is you would have failed to take down the Hydra if it weren't for your monster training sessions which upgraded your toughness and agility enough that you were able to survive long enough even after your meatshields were taken out that you were able to finish off the Hydra. Otherwise, you would have been fucked.

Being a tanky mage absolutely saved your ass. The MC might not look it but he is one tough agile little bugger of a mage. However, without magic, you are fucked since you do not know how to really fight back without it just take and avoid hits.

I won't lie and say that won't be nice. If only so I can introduce more characters and having charisma is actually very useful. You kinda screwed yourself over when it comes to avoiding female attention with the Hydra though. Which serves as a constant living reminder of your awesomeness. Your eyes bulged out and your jaw dropped when you realized what he was hinting at.

He just shrugs. " I won't lie and say that isn't within my interests to find a worthy man for her but it's not something I can force now can I? Not with you tricky magical types anyway. If you were brute it would have easy to just beat you into submission and call it good."

"DAD!" She screams while punching and kicking him. You were certain if it were anyone else he would have been sent flying.

Instead, he just chuckles and continues. "Well excuse me for worrying about my daughter's love life...anyway let me show you the cage for the hydra and finish setting it up before it wakes up. Any idea what you are going to do with all that meat and materials anyway?"

"...I'm sure I can find some use for it. Hydra is good eating and materials are good."

"Hah you have the capital to set up your own tribe with that damned Hydra shame about being too young otherwise you could easily just make one!" He jokes.

After taking care of the hydra cage business which turned out to be a crude arena made of wood, stone, and mud dugout that was pretty good sized all things considered. You took advantage of your newfound wealth to make an offering to repay the spirits via a ceremony. A bit of a time consuming process to exchange for items that the spirits would find better than hydra parts before finally sacrificing it all to them to repay the debt and earn back their favor. As a result, you DID discover that some spirits prefer certain offerings more than others. Like Hydra parts for instance were favored by more bestial and bloodthirsty spirits. Which obviously wasn't enough to completely repay everyone else without getting to know any specific spirits and having them serve as an intermediary. A task you could consider looking into later.

After taking care of that you focused on your magical gains and exhaustion from the hunt. It may have nearly killed you but you could feel stronger than ever and think about your discoveries. For one, you had no means to defend yourself magically. For another, your magic was...too unreliable and short lived for such a prolonged fight. It took much of the day to finally bring down that fucking hydra. Your magical storage simply wasn't large enough. At least you acquired some insights into your magic and made a great discovery that the spirits could help guide, empower, and even teach you magic. Who knows what else also can?

So you spent the remaining part of the year recuperating and considering what you should do in the long term. You have a few more years left before you think you will enter puberty. A time to consider what you shall focus on before things get awkward for you while you still can.

To be honest you thought it would be more about martial fighting but unexpectedly his wife knew magic too. So when you went to double down on your magic practice she showed up to teach you. That was how you discovered her terrible secret. She was a master of the dark arts.

"Yet you claim demon magic isn't even evil?"

"Its makers are evil but demon magic itself is a tool that can be used to do nonevil no? Technically Demon magic is a type of spirit magic but one that has a very nasty reputation. Hence why everyone fears it. To be fair demon magic is costly but powerful yet it is very dirty."

"So people are not going to like the type of magicks we use?"

"Depends on the magic but in general magic scares people cause its magic. Just to varying degrees. Knowing multiple magics is useful because they all have their strengths and weaknesses. That doesn't mean you should underestimate a specialist. They are extremely strong and woe to you if you encounter any if you do not have their weakness in the hand."

"So should I specialize?"

"Most do when they grow older. As a child, it's a good idea to branch out to make sure you have many tools to choose from and figure out what you're talented at. Later in life, you will want to specialize otherwise magic will never be able to progress and ensure your legacy. Nobody ever pays attention to those masters of nothing because they never made any actual worthwhile improvements to any spells."

"Good question child. I am a master of Dark and Demon Magicks. Now from what I understand you never did learn how to really guard yourself very well with magic right? Especially against magic vs magic?"

Sure enough, you discovered the hard way why everyone hated dark and demon magic. Shit fucking HURT. The curses. Hexes. It was so goddamn irritating. The PAIN. The fucking PAIN. It was dirty. Always trying to catch you off guard, weaken you, debilitate you, cripple you, and make you suffer. Begging for death. Worst of all dark magic was also REALLY strong in defense. You had no idea darkness spells were so hard to break. So the mage using it is tanky as shit and makes you suffer the entire time.

Still, it made you realize you didn't originally have any good defense magicks. The value of simply outlasting and weakening your opponent instead of just blasting them to death. As in the loot is a lot better since it's not all destroyed. That was how you spent the next year or so under the tutelage of that she-devil that is your new mother.

Even the other raiders and Baz of all people avoided her. Seeing her cruelty and lessons you now understood why she was so avoided. However thanks to her you finally learned how to defend yourself with magic, picked up new magic, and advanced your old ones. She...was actually a very good teacher. One who was remarkably unbiased and helpful. She could easily see through your concerns and questions when it came to magic.

It was too bad you never got to see what she was fully capable of.

At least whenever she wasn't putting you through the magical wringer you decided you urgently needed a break for the sake of your own sanity and chose to meet some otherwise exotic groups. Maybe you should have met normal people. Maybe you have frankly grown so comfortable consorting with monsters and undead that it seemed preferable to actual people. Maybe your just sick in the head or too damned odd. It didn't really matter since it was a nice excuse to escape and catch your breath.

Her mother's training regimen was brutal and lengthy. Meant to improve your mana stores and longstanding defenses. Still sucked not to mention how otherwise miserable and painful the lessons could be. Luckily Zixra's connections were far ranging and hard to reach. Meaning you got to enjoy lengthy breaks as you traveled to reach them. Honestly, the hardest part was making sure the undead and monsters didn't try to kill her. That was...tricky. On her end, it was just a lot of traveling.

As giants, as it turned out, had big appetites therefore they didn't like staying in places that were 'low' in biomass. How she ran into giants you have no idea considering the trouble you went to actually meet them. The place they made their home was FULL of gigantic plants and beasts that were so huge that the giants no longer seemed so big anymore. Unsurprisingly this made it extremely dangerous but you did meet giants for the first time.

You did meet the giants she met. They were of the 'smaller' and definitely more vicious variety. As they were nomadic pillagers who traveled and ate everything in their path. Devastating engines of destruction. You can see why she likes them so much. Especially compared to their bigger more chill kin who stick to their giant countryside.

After that, you traveled back in a bizarre pattern that was done on purpose. Turned out the giants were the farthest away and everyone else was easier to meet. Deep in the wildlands, you meet the Beastfolk. Creatures of half man and half beast. You thought your own people were savage...not anymore. The Beastmen prefer the deeper reaches of the wilds where they survive and compete with the greater beasts and monsters. They are ar a lot more primal and full of savagery. Most of their tribes are also smaller but you see notable exceptions some tribes are the largest you ever heard. Like the Rats and the Crows who were huge in size.

Last was the Greenskins. Starting from the smaller goblinoids, the medium sized orcish, big ogres, and the largest Trolls. They were extremely aggressive and fierce. Their savagery could only be challenged by the beastmen but unlike the beastmen the greenskins didn't limit themselves to the deep wilds. Instead, the Greenskins seemed to like harsh places and challenging foes. This meant they often clashed with others which is how you heard of other groups like the Sharp Ears and the Longbeards. People whom you haven't met but at least have now heard about.

During the trip, you weren't really expecting to make some friends. Especially with the language barriers and your social awkwardness. Turned out that everyone appreciates being able to see something get blown up with the magic or have fun hunting together. Like Mertuk the Giant who accidentally got you drunk for the first time. Sik Sik the Ratling Mage who showed you how to new application of necromancy via plagues. Not to mention Tarz the Troll punting Skeeb the goblin which resulting in the headbutting and mutual KO with Skar the orc and Ogre Ogi who laughed so hard he needed medical attention. That was fucking hilarious though. Greenskins fight and play rough but damn that was funny.

It eventually ended with you stopping by some decaying leftover ruins from the world being born where you introduced the undead. That was tricky as undead are either sleepy or grumpy assholes even if you know the Dead Tongues and necromancy. No wonder undead are generally hostile to everyone. Especially the undead outsiders who got stuck there and slowly withering away thanks to being severed. Native undead is very hard to find due to being so few in numbers still. Seriously it took a long while to track some down. You did succeed in the end but damn that was time consuming.

The last was the monsters who were easy to find since you knew a location of a nest. What you didn't expect was for Zixra to challenge them to a fight or how long she managed to physically last resisting them. You had to rely upon magic and ran the fuck away you still got your ass kicked. She actually managed to last a surprisingly long time. This probably made them respect her if their newfound willingness to negotiate was anything to go by.

Still, it gave you some time to get to know the monsters without having your ass kicked which was nice. Sure it meant having someone else getting theirs kicked in your place but hey. Thanks to this you were able to chill out with the monsters which were how you were able to find out the nest was a nursery for young and weak monsters. You haven't met any 'grown' monsters yet...meaning you were getting your asses kicked by kids.

You did find out that the swarm that it belonged to was in the process of collapsing. The Swarm Queen in control was dying and the swarm was breaking up. Which had serious ramifications if you wanted to maintain good relations. Luckily by stopping by you were introduced to some other monsters belonging to the same batch and older ones. Although only those from the same batch were very friendly.

You finally get around to training with actual weapons. Stone spears, hammers, and axes. Since they are cheap and easy to replace. Mainly since you do not have to hunt down anything to get the materials to make more. To be frank you are rather...old to begin to finally start practicing but better late than never. Especially if you are unlucky enough to run into something that can resist magic or you out of mana. Good to have backups.

So you visit Baz to train under him who is the strongest warrior.

"Well Well look who finally shows up...so here for physical training I guess?" You figure knowing you avoid weapons training. He will be wrong and besides, you have seen their wimpy ass version of physical training. If you want the real deal you would go with the monsters for that stuff which you intend to do. Monster's physiques are monstrous and not for the weak. It's why despite being a magic user you aren't fragile by any means but...you have been slacking. Yeah, you are gonna need to start catching up on that.

"Nope actually here to train with you." You tell him. He appears shocked in disbelief at first.

"...Really?" He questions not believing you.

"Really." You confirm.

"Really REALLY?" He asks starting to get his hopes up.

...Damn you didn't know refusing to train with him bothered him so much. "Yes really."

"WOOH finally I was afraid you were gonna turn into a pansy ass fairy at this rate," he whoops before grabbing a few weapons. "Well since you are a mage I'll bring up the classic mage weaponry. cudgels, Staves, daggers, and Spears. Basically, smash the shit out of them or stab with something pointy. Personally I myself prefer big hammers and axes, but I'm no slouch with other weapons and you will need to learn how those other weapons are used...against you. You don't have time to familiarize yourself with using them but you will need to learn how to protect yourself against them. When it comes to staff and especially spear training my daughter Zixra is better. She really likes pointy and sharp objects."

Thus began you getting drilled with a few magic oriented weapons and especially how to defend yourself against other warriors. Particularly WITHOUT your magic to help you. Unsurprisingly that last part resulted in you getting your ass kicked. Even when you were fighting other kids and the weaker raiders. As you find out the hard way and very painfully just how dependent you are on magic despite its dangers of it. When you weren't training with weapons over the next few years you were training your body with the monsters.

Sure you put aside your magic training as you approached puberty, but you didn't want to fuck up your adolescence accidentally via magic bullshit and all that working out will do wonders for your growth development as puberty finally hits. You yourself are starting to finally take notice of girls...and the girls are starting to notice you right back. Which your sisters and new family notice.

As you have to go to the monsters for training. You are surprised to discover that Zixra has fallen in love with training with them too. As you stumble upon her there repeatedly and end simply traveling together. Especially since she can help excuse your absences during martial training. You discover that she apparently has paid the monsters for training and entered some kind of agreement with them. Which reminded you of the debt you still owe them and that the monsters are still oddly silent about your repayment.

As a result, you end up joining her for the training sessions and realize yet again just how powerful she is. Unlike yourself who invested in magic. She competes with the monster through sheer martial valor and physical might. Wrestling and beating them. Much to your slowly growing horror...after a while she starts to win. Slowly but surely she lasts longer and longer before slowly winning more and more. You comfort yourself with the fact that she is both older and has a lot more combat experience than you. Yet she is still displeased with herself and left wanting more...probably because these monsters are the 'weak and young'. She no doubt intends to find the older and stronger ones next.

Your own clashes with the monsters and their idea of training. Are you getting beaten, tortured, and desperately dodging/running away. Before they used their twisted healing magic to put you back together again for another session over and over again. It was brutal, cruel, and agonizing but you have seen the results with your own eyes. Without this torture, you never would have stood a chance against the Hydra even with your magic. As this training makes you tough and agile enough to take hits. Something that you have heard from even the Old Man, Baz, and Sivath is very rare to see among mages. Apparently, they are normally a fragile bunch.

You are not fragile and you intend to keep it that way.

During your regular training sessions with the monsters. You choose to make time to visit the monster swarm queen whom you knew had a direct hand in your own making. Making her the closest thing to a real mother you have besides the one who adopted you Sivath. She as it turned out had also greatly withered since you last seen her with your experience in necromancer and previous experiences with the reaper...you can see her death approaching.

She wheezes and hisses which you eventually realize is laughter. "Our love is not the same love as men. Tell me is all that you wanted is to rub it in?"

"No...I just wanted to hear the truth about you and him. Along with what else of before this world's birth you know."

"Oh of course you do. Fine...come with me," she takes you on a quiet walk and despite the years that have gone by you recognize the paths. It was the exact same path the old man used to take you on all the time when she paused before a small spring forming a pond and a strange looking tree. "This...this was where we met after the wars. He was dying and an old enemy I could have easily killed him. We...were old enemies you see...but I didn't. Instead, I saved his life and I levered that debt for one last try that could save us both. Sadly we failed. I didn't know why at the time but I do now."

"...Did you actually love him?" You couldn't help but ask. She was silent for a while pondering on it.

"Enemies we were in life. Lovers in death we shall be." Was her only answer. "Maybe the next life we won't be born on opposite sides. Him a spirit of the souls springs and me of the flesh tides. Our homeworlds are both dead now and soon I will rejoin them...I guess you also want to see the death of my underworld? I'm afraid you won't be able to. I am not the last one alive still. One of the last only."

"You were on different sides?"

"My side was that of...meatspace he was of spiritual realms. A difference in existence and philosophy made us great enemies. The war was old even in our homeworlds and it spanned many realms. For some reason, I do not understand the left his own side near the end. Protected the new life and tried to find a middle ground. It's why I found him betrayed and dying right here...yet I did not end him did I? Instead I spent my dwindling life spark to make one last spawning hoping that together we could find the key. Sadly we were suppressed by this new world and failed. Killed by the very thing we were trying to protect."

"...Yet you do not hate it for considering how you both fought to protect it no?"

"No...despite how it denied us it did not deny our progeny. It instead gave them another chance. While it is true I did not expect you to survive...you weren't the only attempt."

Maybe Baz caught onto the fact that you are similar birds of a feather hence his interest in adopting you."

"I wouldn't think they cared that much for me. Well except for the one girl who wants to fuck me when I am older probably."

"In that you are wrong. Baz is...well he never got along with his own kind very well even back then and he was strong enough to get away with it. Very tough. Very hard to fight. I still ache at the memory of our previous fights. As for that Sivath...actually, I think she likes you the most since she appreciates a fellow connoisseur of the dark arts. Especially one with similar terrible tastes in people and friends."

"If you knew would you have done things differently then?"

"...Honestly I don't think I would know what to do with you. You wouldn't fit in with my kind and neither would you fit in with mankind. Even now...I am unsure. In a few more years you will be of breeding age and considering your feats and resources the females are going to be all over you. Monsters included. However, that will change for your own descendants. The monster blood will weaken and they may get along better with the rest of mankind."

"So...since you have acknowledged me as your son does that mean I have any siblings from you dear mother?" You couldn't help but prod.

She cackles in that strange alien hissing sound. "It's...a bit complicated. Monster familial relations are not very close, especially in swarms. You can thank our weird magic for that. In terms of siblings, there are those from my final spawning who can...in a matter of speaking be considered 'family' to you except you don't really have anything in common. I have older children and other relatives but well they won't see you as kin. My older children may put up with you but only because you have interacted with me and their younger kin. If I had produced more humanoids or shifters that may have been different."

While it's not an immediate problem she warns you there are those who wish to weaken the barriers that separate this world from others and you must defend those barriers at all costs. You find out about the location of the world tree which helps protect this world and other key spots that harbor defenses that shield this world. In addition to find out other knowledge as well her own specialty you noticed was very different from the old man. Her magics was much more savage, primal, and natural. Which she did tell you a bit about. Along with the natural forces of this world and the greatest dangers you can face.

With puberty impending you decide to finally make some friends. Only all the other tribals are either losers, kiss asses, or want your dick. This makes you consider what the monster mother pointed out...and you realize it hit home hard. There really aren't very many worthwhile...people to interact with. Especially for those who won't turn on you for your close interactions with the undead and monsters. Which REALLY limits things.

Luckily your new family is...also an outlier with the tastes and company they keep. In addition the orphan family you originally hailed from. On top of the connections that Zixra pointed out to you. So you actually DID have some options. Just not really any normal ones. Like at all.

In addition to finally making some actual friends for the first time in your life. You got back to active magic practice with the new unusual insights you got from those visits before. This time you were tested on being able to cast while using a weapon and the limits of your physique with the spellcasting. Resulting in you discovering a potential synergy(Magic Enhancement) to investigate to further enhance yourself or your equipment. It will be tricky to do so without harming yourself and healing is rare outside the monsters and their methods hurt like hell. At least you weren't being used for spell target practice like last time the entire time.

In addition to studying up on your spells. This gave you the chance to pass on the medicine you were given to your teacher/adoptive mother who was shocked since medicines are very rare due to a lack of knowledge and skill to make them. As a result their recovery quickly sped up right in the time since the dangers the Monster Queen forewarned you about gave you time to investigate things for yourself when you weren't training or making friends.

To be more specific you delegated since that is what allies...friends...erhm minions are for. The dead. The spirits. The local monsters. You asked them all about it and to investigate. For a long while, they didn't have anything until one day you got results. An answer that barely gave you time to head over to see for yourself since you knew your adoptive parents would also know and intervene. You wanted to see for yourself just how strong they truly are and how dangerous the threat was.

Despite having a huge headstart and determining where the danger was you waited. You didn't see what it was at first but heard it first. As the spirits. Ghosts went silent. You have never once experienced that. Later the animals, insects, and even plants stopped. The wind became still and even mana was sluggish much to your horror. You couldn't even imagine what could do that.

Yet somehow it still took time for whatever it was to appear. In fact, you didn't even realize what it was because it was so obvious and eventually you realized it. The Sun had seemingly stopped moving until it wasn't. Suddenly there were two suns in the sky and you eventually realized one of them wasn't a sun at all. It was something else and it was coming closer. The pace was very hurried and it was utterly blinding. Its path and trace were obvious given how everything around it reacted to its passing.

You realized you were insanely over your head with whatever insanely powerful abomination that thing was. You always were curious just how insane those struggles for survival and fighting were back during the birthing of the world...apparently, your curiosity may very well prove to be your doom. Since you cause a brief blur of two figures zipping past and charging at the figure. One roared in a voice you instantly recognized.

Baz leaped into the air swinging his ax down at the second sun. Splitting it in half and revealing what it truly was. A divine radiance bloomed forth and made you kneel down. Sweating for daring to defile to gaze upon it... a deity. A godling. Before the Godling could recover the second figure lashed out as darkness seemed out from below and formed a vortex. Caught between the Vortex below and Baz above the godling came crashing down as it reacted. With flares of light and fire shredding, igniting, vaporizing, and melting everything in its path. Instantly the previous mountain was turned into a valley and scorched of everything on it.

Yet the fighting didn't stop. Powerful spells you have never seen came pouring out of the second figure who kept flashing to dodge and what couldn't be flashed to avoided was blocked by inky black shields or shrieking maelstroms of damned agony. In between flashes, you noticed the figure had a tail, wings, and horns yet it was someone you knew nonetheless. Shifter?

The Godling bellowed and his power erupted throwing Baz back who was wounded but not even panting or out of breath. Yet somehow it completely unfazed him as the resistance and damage he took only made him strike harder and harder. Fight fiercer and fiercer. His toughness somehow improved with his injuries, especially as some weird inky and bloody spells echoed around him and began to sap the life from around him to recover his wounds and shield him. Yet the Godlings wounds were either nonexistent or healed before your very eyes. Flashes of light somehow blocking the attacks or what few attacks did get through were rapidly healed.

Despite being outnumbered two to one the Godling seemed to be holding his own quite well. You don't know if the two could handle it when suddenly she began to cackle madly as a weird blistering red, purple, and black pool formed midair. Its very existence seemed to be an affront to the deity considering how abruptly completely ignored Baz to throwing everything he had.

You could understand why when from this distance you could hear the wailing of damned and tortured souls seeming trapped and being sucked inside. Even worse when the pool began to ripple as 'something' started to try and reach outward. Which further alarmed the god even more.

Turned out to be a big mistake to ignore Baz who tossed away his broken ax and grabbed a new one that was being swung towards him from midair by her via hair. Apparently, they brought a large bag of spares you just noticed. Despite not moving Baz swung his ax and you could feel the BOOM before you could hear it. The previous split in the mountain was cut yet again from his blow that sent the god flying his blood spraying in the hair. His ax didn't survive but he already grabbed a replacement hammer from the hair as he leaped over to swing down yet again. A direct hit that completely crumbled the mountain and left a crater.

...hm so that is where all those lakes came from.

There was no way the godling could survive that right yet you noticed the spell was still forming and you knew that meant it somehow still wasn't dead. Sure enough, another boom and beam of light sent Baz flying into sky high in the air that sent him flying. The godling floated out of the crater his robes in tatters and he looked very angry. Right in time to get a face full of the torrent that erupted from the rippling pool that opened up to reveal another space and out came an outpouring of some kind of terrible waterlike substance that was so terrible for the first time you heard the god scream in overwhelming agony.

Its counterattack was a supernova that exploded attempting to drive her back. Instead, it merely blinded you all and she just vanished. This confused even the god in question who for the first time his wounds were failing to heal. Whatever that stuff was proving to be too much even for it. The next thing that happened was four things. The good attempted to treat its wounds. The pond had turned into a gateway and she was pulling the door open. A flying meteor that was Baz coming directly at the God. Something erupted from below.

Now anyone else would have GTFO the way. Alas, this was a godling. He stood his ground. The gate opened. Baz slammed into the God grappling it. What came from below unleashed a shriek that screamed in all your minds at once as a flicker of deathly miasma suddenly exploded from it.

DIE GODLING I WILL TAKE YOU WITH ME TO THE GREAT DEATH LET US SEE WHO IS STRONGER. THE REAPER CALLING FOR ME OR YOUR CLAIMS OF DIVINITY! YOU WILL PAY FOR TAKING HIM FROM ME AND THREATENING WHAT IS MINE.

You didn't get to see what happened next as a storm of unknown energy you never felt before erupted. However, above it, you saw a familiar figure...a monstrous swarm Queen. instinctively you realized she was channeling a forbidden art. One to be used when one was at death's door and when there was no life left in the body to weaken its power. Except compared to the dying frail and withered figure. This one was billowing with power, hearty, and majesty.

When the storm cleared up. You could see the gateway had turned into a baleful eye glaring down at the deity. Baz was chasing the deity who had closed in Sivath who caught his attack with her bare hands and winced as you remembered the time you also mistook that for being her weakness. The Deity was now caught right between them as they both attacked at once and used perfect teamwork in melee to suppress the godling.

You were wondering when where the monster was when a pulse shot out from the head of the Godling and he completely froze as if braindead. As the earth trembled at first you thought it was her until in the distance you saw an encroaching army. That was when you realized what happened.

The Godling knew it couldn't face all three on its own so it called for reinforcements. Realizing things will turn against them the monster Queen reveals herself to join their attack on the stunned godling but his defenses were too strong despite all three using forbidden methods to severely wounded the godling who retreated to his army as he finally proceeds to talk for the first time to taunt them.

"HAH what a joke. A monster. A demon. A traitor. All joining hands to stop the righteous from saving lost souls and purging evil. Too bad unlike your kind we have friends and know how to work together without backstabbing.[/red]

"MORE KILLING MORE BLOODSHED," roars Baz who has clearly gone berserk.

"Ah the hubris of gods, I adore you fucking idiots thinking you can break the accords and I cannot waste to enjoy the taste of your divine soul," purrs Sivathexaz who points up at the Eye with a single finger who grinned transforming into a mouth that opened and spewed forth another army.

The sacred army slammed into the army of fiends that came pouring out of the mouth. The grounding rumbled so much that they failed to realize what came from below until it was too late as a swarm of monsters erupted below. Flanking the army. With a chittering Monster Queen helming them that held up a peculiar and strangely familiar looking soul gem before cackling.

Remember this? What you were wanting all along? I swore I was going to take you with me you fucking godling and don't think you can escape me. Betrayed a man who met for peace and wanted to pass on his knowledge to entreat with you people. Let me show you wretches what a REAL monster is like.

The godling turned around and ran away. Utter terror for the first time broke out on his face as the monster queen form began to ripple, crackle, and break down. As the soul gem shattered. The two energies were forcefully being fused together and on the verge of erupting but right before they could explode a pulse came from her head to forcefully suppress and control the process.

Then it was unleashed. A spiraling crackling lance that homed in the godling no matter what it did desperately trying to dodge and throwing whatever it could at behind it to slow and weaken it. All failed for the lance pierced through the godling and at first nothing happened until the godling's divinity rapidly began to suddenly fluctuate and the Godling screamed as its divinity was shaken, weakened, drained, and stolen.

Seeing their master flee the holy army also attempted to retreat despite the dangers and instead ran into another ambush. As the forces that Baz brought along finally revealed themselves and blocked the fleeing army halting them. Just like that both the army and its leader realized there was no escape for them. They were all going to die here.

Realizing that fact they stopped caring and threw everything they had to kill as many as possible. Unfortunately for them the monsters they fought were old, worn out, dying veterans and loyal elites who intended to die with their queen. They cared not and flung themselves forward just like their Queen did who embraced the maddened Godling who attempted to self destruct in order to take down those who dared to defy it. Instead, he got swallowed by a monster queen before they both exploded together and the other two whom he wished to kill escaped and enjoyed slaughtering his army instead.

Just like that you finally caught a glimpse into the insanity and power of those early battles and struggles for survival. Just like that, you discovered a-

That is currently due to the current MC's choices and specialization. Once you have kids your options will branch out a lot more. Basically every MC has their specialty that gives them unique options and abilities. The downside is once the MC perishes you also lose out all on it unless you groomed a replacement lined up.

As for having lots of kids...that will soon be brought up given your choices the MC is not as well equipped to handle it as it would appear. Magical bloodlines have high attrition on top of the high attrition rate of this time period. The MC is also antisocial so...yeah. Not easy to spam babies with him in this generation. That can be fixed in the next generation though.

As usual, you practice magic except for this time you get a new idea mainly cause of some new friends you made and your interest in visiting some graves. From what you know the remaining graves of newborn world are being mended and healed finishing off the outsider undead remnants leaving only the primordial undead ones who are the fewest in number. So you intend to visit them before it's too late since you are old enough to be taken a bit more seriously now and can actually visit some of those old sites. Ruins from the dead worlds that were destroyed to make a new one along with a few broken remnants. While there are still plenty to find.

That is how you made a new friend and got some new ideas to practice your magic. The dead are tireless and they know tricks from other realms. Which was a great chance to perfect your magic in ways you never really had a chance to test previously. Enabling you to make a lot of progress. Entreating with the undead also gave you more insights into the other realms and many lost secrets and hidden places. With the deaths of two figures who outlived those times, you were wondering how to find more about it now you do. You just need to talk to the dead. As they do not forget.

In addition, you hashed out how you were going to repay the monsters which came down to food. Fortunately, monsters are not a picky bunch and you got a hydra. Yet they also wanted mating rights which you decided to accept figuring it would be a good way to pay it off faster and a good lead to further things. What you didn't expect was how Zixra would react when she realized what she was missing out on besides fighting and training.

Now the most important thing of all...courtship. You were of the age that it was time to consider establishing a family and how to do so. Courting Zixrathmorath and spooky orphaned girl Strauvana

In this case, there are actually two girls whom come to mind. You thought of a few more admittedly but there is something special about Strauvana and it totally has nothing to do with the fact that the dead spoke nothing but good things about her which is a first. You only see each other at home or the few years you went training with the monsters, but when you stopped you only saw her at home if she was around.

Reconnecting with Strauvana especially when you found out how much you had in common and how much she had grown since you were taken in. Strauvana if it wasn't very her sickly health would have been a real beauty that was holding her back. Despite that fact she unexpectedly managed to acquire magic of her own AND learned to fight. She was even surprisingly sneaky at that. An all arounder whose only weakness is her body. You did your best to make a move on her and were promptly shut down hard by the undead who were her escorts. Seriously they were terrible about blocking the two of you even from trying to kiss or even just hold hands. Beyond that with her morbid but delightful taste in dating locations and it went great.

...then again that probably just means you two have equally disturbing tastes. It was fun having someone to visit with the undead and their forsaken places of dwelling.

Strauvana as it turned out awakened an death aligned constitution making the dead very friendly to her and other effects. They were the ones who took her under their wing and proceeded to teach her. Hence her remarkable skill in both martial and magic. Thanks to you backing the orphans this was something that she was easily able to focus on. She spent time visiting and exploring the resting places of the dead. Strauvana unlike yourself specializes in Necromancy, Dark, Enchantment, and Shadow Magic.

Unfortunately due to being an orphan Strauvana is poor, lacking in connections, and doesn't have much else to offer but herself.

Honestly, if you put more effort in you could have got a lot better results. If you hadn't had a dragon you probably would have had jackshit done. Instead taking a dragon hunting was indeed cheating.
