Welcome back.

Rules are simple: Votes are tallied every hour, with whatever course of action being the most popular being the course of action taken. Write ins are encouraged and non-mutually exclusive votes will be combined if possible.

When a roll is called for, roll however many D100 are specified.

For a short summary for the new and to recap:

You are Alex. A newly minted trainer and camping enthusiast just starting out on your journey at the age of seventeen after your father lost his job in order to help pay the bills.

Last time, you made camp after cleaning up after team green, went on a night time bushwalk, caught a Murkrow, missed catching a Rowlet, helped Gareth catch another Rowlet, made it to Saltcoast City and fought off Team Green.

"Actually, I do." You confirm. "I've got a bit of a daily schedule worked out for myself, but I'm wondering what you two have got planned." you admit, addressing Holly and Gareth.

"For my part, training. And a lot of it." Gareth says. "And not just in the same sense as you, I kind of need to get to know my team better as well." He adds.

This is pretty reasonable. Gareth hasn't exactly been slacking, but the training he has in mind is a good deal more specialised than what you generally do.

"I um... I think I'll be doing the same." Holly says. "I've not really... you know, been training much." She admits.

"Hey, it's alright, now's the perfect time and place for it." You assure. "As for me, like I said: I've got a bit of a schedule worked out. So, I'm going to help here at the gym in the morning, then after lunch, spend the afternoon at the beach and as for today, help with the shopping in the evening." You add. "If Fie's going to put us up for the time being, it's only fair we pay board and help with food and whatnot."

Gareth and Holly nod, no arguments from then.

"Alright then." Fie says. "If you're looking to help around the gym, you can grab Sage and Blitz and do preliminary battles, or help show kids coming in the basics of training." She suggests. "Either way would be a big help." She adds.

Once you've finished breakfast, Fie shows you where her PC is so you can swap someone for Sage.

All things being equal, you settle on Kay O-o, considering he's been working hard as of late.

Swapping him back when you head for the beach seems like the best policy besides.

This done, you head on down to see Fie. She leads you to a room modeled after a bush campsite.

"Right, so remember how I said I didn't have any good ideas on anything I could challenge you with?" She asks.

"Yeah?"

"Well, your job in here is to get challengers to build a proper, safe campfire. They fuck up, you battle them and show 'em what they did wrong. If they just flat out don't know how to light a match, walk 'em through the whole way, then send 'em on through to the next room." She says.

"Sure. I can do that." You assure. "Campfire safety is important." You add.

Fie nods.

"Yeah. Now as to the actual battles... challengers with two or three badges, Sage and Blitz will be perfect, but for challengers with one badge or four or higher, the gym has a few League pokemon you can use against them. You can use up to three pokemon against a challenger but you don't have to. The goal is to wear 'em down if they screw up, not to beat 'em outright, but no stress if that happens." She explains.

"Okay, that's easy enough." You assure.

"Cool. Any questions?" She asks.

"Hm... D'you have any spare branches or staves for Sage?" You ask after a moment's thought.

"I do. Whether she'd accept any of them is another matter. Braixen are picky with their sticks." Fie replies. "We can try though. "Anything else?

"Is there a specific level of experience for particular gyms or is it a trainer by trainer basis that challenges are based on?"

"Trainer by trainer." Fie replies. "Mostly. I mostly waive trainers through the challenge portion of my gym if they've done the circuit for a year or two, but sometimes, I'll send 'em on through for revision. In that sort of case, I'll provide you with a team to use when they inevitably fuck up." She adds with a smirk.

You can't help but chuckle at that.

"Sounds good."

You agree.

"Okay, we'll be opening soon. Good luck."

With that, she leaves you in the room she's assigned you for this campfire education bit.

It sure looks like a firetrap: Lots of leaf litter everywhere, though there's some rocks around you can use to ring it and a short kick at the floor reveals that it's nice, sandy substrate.

Seems like she'd rather make things relatively easy for challengers learning the ropes - and fair enough - but it makes you smile nostalgically remembering the first firepit you dug. In parched, black clay. In the rain.

Maybe you ought to broach the topic with her later...

You're interrupted as your pokedex pings.

It's got a short message to the effect of 'no badges, just starting out.'

This is followed shortly by a girl of maybe fourteen entering through what you assume is the main entrance to the room, looking around nervously before she clears her throat.

"Um... wh-what's the challenge here?" She asks.

Looks passable but could do better and won't do her any good under bad weather due to being fuel intensive.
It doesn't need to roar like that, a weaker flame will spread out heat better and consume less fuel, also the wood needs too be stacked a bit further from the open flame to prevent accidental wildfires.

"I'll show you the right way after this battle." You reply.

She deflates, before releasing a mudkip.

"Two on two." You say. "Low bet." You add before sending out one of the League pokemon Fie gave you. A Sizzlipede as it turns out.

You get the feeling that Fie's decided to see whether Syurm is a fluke or whether you can get similar results with other bug pokemon.

"Right." The girl says, looking at you nervously as though she's expecting you to body her rather than battle.

Steady battle and pause at times if it looks like she's struggling.
It's meant to be a a learning experience.

Start with smokescreen and then attack with ember, the lesson is fire safety so she should learn from that even if she has type advantage.

You decide to take it relatively easy on the kid.

That's not to say you just give her a pity victory, you make her earn it, but afterward, her Mudkip is only battered, rather than barely up.

It was a long battle as they go, however. Even with a distinct disadvantage in typing, you still had Smokescreen to give you some breathing room and Bite to do some damage with.

Coupled with a Vulpix with Disable, Quick Attack and Will-o-Wisp, when you recalled said Vulpix, the girl cheered in elation as though she'd just beaten Fie instead of the random schmuck teaching campfire safety you actually are in the grand scheme of things.

"Okay, I said I'd show you the right way to build a campfire, so watch closely." You say as you tend your own battered pokemon before starting by clearing all the leaf litter, then digging a pit with a convenient rock, then edging the pit with the rest of the rocks and filling it in from there, ensuring the girl's watching the whole way through.

"Oh. Ohhh, right. The way I did it..." She says sheepishly.

"That's right." You confirm. "You got any friends waiting outside for you?" You ask.

The girl nods.

"Yeah, my brother's done this all before. He's way better at this stuff than I am." She adds.

You nod.

"Just be careful out there and make sure he doesn't get sloppy." You advise. "On to the next room with you. And good luck." You say, then start. "Oh, by the way..." You begin.

"Hm?" The girl asks, pausing at the door to the next room.

"Where'd you catch that Mudkip?" You ask. "I've kind of wanted to try catching one myself since I started my own journey."

"Oh, just in the Mangroves on Route 4. They're kind of shy, but you might get lucky." The girl replies.

"Thanks."

The rest of the battles of the morning take a similar pattern, with the older trainers generally passing the test with flying colours, with the exception of obvious city kids who you assume mostly stick to taking the train and the boats everywhere from how they act.

They're mostly one, two or three badge challengers and the two and three badge trainers in particular have a tendency to get caught off guard by Blitz and Sage, to the point you - quite by accident - win a couple of them, sending them back to the start of the challenge.

It's excellent training and by the time lunch rolls around, Blitz and Sage are absolutely exhausted.

"Not bad at all out there, Alex." Fie says as she comes and leads you to the apparent staff room. "Maybe ease up a little more with the fresh challengers though, that first girl looked like you absolutely put her through the wringer." She advises.

>Sorry, I thought I was going easy on her.

That's a nice way to keep pace. I'm assuming they will learn the moves appropriate to their level on their own.

So Growlithe will be around lvl 30ish after 2-4 weeks, strong enough to learn close combat, outrage and crunch.
>>
>>5464888

Basically. I was going to do dice rolls, but it was either going to be too little or too much.

A level a day mightn't sound like much, but yeah, over that sort of time-frame it adds up to those two winding up roughly on par with Kay O-o.

Also, I'm glad we settled on montage with highlights, because day by day would've seen me taking up neck-roping I think.

Fie shrugs.

"Job if you have to." She says. "Just use damaging moves, especially ones that aren't that effective. Throw in obstructionate moves like Smokescreen and Growl and crap, sure, but don't go as hard as you like to on them. Limit how much you use stuff like Protect and ease up with Vulpix a little as well." She adds. "Of course, if you've got a really obnoxious brat on your hands, then go to town, but otherwise, your job in the case of battling a rookie, generally, is to get some confidence into them."

"Okay, I'll keep that in mind then." You assure. "What about with regards to the other trainers who've come through so far?" You ask.

"You're doing a good job there and the times you won, I can't fault you. You're using Blitz and Sage in the right bracket and there's nothing in the rules saying that you have to use League pokemon when you're acting as a Gym Trainer, so all I can say is keep up the good work." She says.

"Thanks."

"So, what's the plan after lunch?" She asks curiously.

She's been like that all morning, but as you follow Fie towards the back of the Gym and into a smallwood shed, she goes from fidgeting to practically vibrating as Fie opens up a locker full of long sticks, before all but diving in when Fie steps aside.

She means it as well, near as you can tell, there's just some lingering anxiety there that she might be recognised.

"We can go shopping for a swimsuit if you want." You offer.

Holly perks up, then shakes her head.

"It's alright." She assures. "Maybe before we leave, so I've got one for Lake Credo."

You nod in acceptance of this before you call a cab and head for the beach.

The beach when you get there is just as inviting as it always looks on TV.

There're a few surf shops and restaurants along the foreshore and the water looks absolutely gorgeous and super inviting.

"Oh, wow. This place is packed." Gareth says, legitimately startled. "I thought this'd be the off season." He admits as he sees the beach populated.

Being a water specialist sounds pretty kino, it compliments Fie being a fire specialist.

>>5489888
Well Alex has long been more of the pushover type of guy when it comes to social matters, I'm just hoping it doesn't seep into letting someone just start hitting on his girl while not doing anything.
I mean, what if she doesn't tell us to stop him?
>>
>>5489983
Eh we were going for variety tho and Alex has Fire/Fighting aura.
>Just in time to grab a Paldeian Fire Tauros

As for him being a pushover...
Yeah no. Guy is plenty assertive the way we played so far just no reason not to follow up on reasonable suggestions (letting op use his notes for once without needing to go full railroad).
Tho i agree to add some bite and bark when necessary.
>>
>>5490017
Yeah, you're pretty much right on all of that. I was just worried since Alex has a bit of a weakness for Baby-Doll Eyes, last I remembered.

I still think being a specialist (maybe even a dragon specialist, we've got a bunch of dragon pokemon) is something we could entertain.
Then again that would mean having to put some of our team with the best potential (like Rascal or Nika) on hold, so I can see arguments against it.
>>
>>5490047
I think for now the focus will be variety and forming a core A and B team for rotation.
Aside from that we'll mainly use mons that can help out our aura development (learning moves or focused powerups)
>>
>>5490048
So something like keeping Rika, Sage and Latias on hand to practice Aura stuff, while making two balanced teams for any situation?
We have enough 'mons to make two teams already and then some, so maybe we could make a C team or just send back home to help around/give away some of the pokemon we have (maybe some of our lesser used members. I think we caught a Murkrow some time ago? We could start with that if we go down that route).
>>
>>5490057
About that Murkrow, it should prove to be especially useful as a night-time lookout and scout.
Otherwise it can guard our family home, so giving it away is not an option.
>>
>>5490062
I think sending it home is the way to go, considering our home was just attacked by Team Green not so long ago.
And talking about that, I don't even think Alex even knows about the attack yet. I wonder how he'll take the news.
>>
>>5490079
>Parents packed up team green in pits and net launchers
>Probably delivered them to the police station via hot air balloon too
>Probably made their sentai speech
>Balloon and speech altered as anti-team rocket
>>
>>5490087
I forget how neat it is that Alex is the son of Jessie and James.
Still it wouldn't hurt to give them some more defensive 'mons just in case they become targets of Team Green again.

"No, focused on school." You confirm. "Kind of had a lot to do around home as well." You add.

"Good luck out there, you two." You say as Holly sends out Checkers and Gareth leads with Rowlet.

It's a two-on-two battle and for his part, Ian seems to have been doing some training of his own, sending in a Totodile and Tirtouga.

Whether he's being nice and giving Gareth and Holly an advantage or it was just bad luck on his part or he consciously put himself at a disadvantage, you're unsure, but it turns out to be a pretty interesting match.

Holly focuses on supporting Gareth at first as he directs Rowlet to focus Tirtouga down before switching to Totodile.

The battle itself is actually really interesting to watch as even though it's very clear that Ian is taking it easy on the pair, Gareth and Holly still have to work for their eventual win, the both of them looking just as worn out as their respective pokemon afterward as Ian shakes both their hands.

"Well, that was fun. You'll have to show me how you and your team do next time, eh?" He says, addressing you as Holly and Gareth tend to their exhausted pokemon.

You spend the rest of the day building sandcastles with your team and trying to teach everyone Secret Power.

To little success, though Syurm does help mitigate things a bit by acting as an object lesson for the rest of your team.

Still, you do have fun and Rascal and Eevee look over the moon at the dustbaths they've taken instead of paying attention to the whole 'sandcastle building.'

"This is getting kind of old, having to creep around like *we're* the criminals." Gareth says.

"It is what it is." You say. "Let's go find Ian. No way they'll fuck with a member of the Elite Four." You add with certitude.

With this, you revert directions back towards the beach.

As luck would have it, Ian seems to have made a day of surfing, so it's pretty easy to track him down.

"There a problem?" He asks without preamble as he hauls his board up. "Eshays 'round the taxi rank or something?"

"Eshays?" You ask, non plussed.

"No, Team Green." Holly says. "They've been hounding us since we were in Newport City." She says.

"What, those vegan- oh, yeah. Yeah, here they come." Ian says, planting his board in the sand and stepping up as a round dozen of them come prowling towards you like a pack of houndour. "Right, you lot. Clear off or I'm going to make you." Ian declares.

"We'd like to see you try, fascist!" One more screams than shouts to approving cheers from the others.

"Last chance, clear off and go get a s o y latte or something-"

He's cut off as all twelve of them release pokemon.

Ian sighs and shakes his head before tossing out a pokemon of his own.

"Don't say I didn't warn you." He says as the Gyarados he just released roars, making everyone but Ian take a step back. "Gyarados, cool 'em off. Water Gun." He orders.

The beast grunts, before it turns a jet of water so intense and precise it's like it's from a pressure washer on the mob, downing half the pokemon released and all the trainers in a single pass.

The grunts with pokemon still up order their charges to counter attack, but it's debateable whether Ian's Gyarados even notices their counter attack as it simply makes another pass, downing the rest of the pokemon and leaving those grunts that have just regained their feet having to fight to remain standing as Gyarados just keeps sweeping them, before they finally start to run, being chased all the way by blasts of Water Gun.

"Thanks, Gyarados." Ian says, patting the beast's tail as it roars its triumph, earning a bump that nearly knocks him flat in return before he recalls it.

"So... what's an 'Eshay'?" You ask again.

"Oh, Eshays? Dumb-shit kids with bad hair cuts and worse attitudes." Ian says with a shrug. "Tend not to be trainers, usually wear ratty tracksuits and sneakers. When they're not hangin' around like a bad smell, they're pulling knives on people, robbing 'em and knicking their shoes."

"That's... oddly specific." You say, then shake your head. "Thanks for bailing us out of that though." You add.

"Ah, no worries. Anyway, I'll see you to the taxi." He says waiving your thanks off.

Polite introductions.
This is likely Fies predecessor gym leader or mentor.

"Ah, these would be your guests then, Fiona?" The old woman asks.

Fie fidgets at this.

"Yes, these are them. Alex, Gareth, Holly, this is Emma. My mentor and the previous Fire Gym Leader."

The old woman regards you all kindly, a lined, tanned face framed by grey hair crinkling further as a crooked smile crosses it.

"Pleasure to meet you all. Fiona's not been any trouble on the road up here, I hope?" She asked.

"...No?" Gareth says uncertainly, taken aback.

"She's been a good friend and a great help." Holly says with feeling.

>No trouble at all.
>Define 'trouble'?

C'mon, let's not put Fie in a tough spot. Emma is clearly someone that doesn't like joking or being slighted.

Just a little joke. If anything she has kept me out of trouble.

Hope you're right, but either way Fie looks nervous. I'd really hate to mess around while she's a bit on edge.

"Define 'trouble'." You reply.

"Sneaking into you boys' tents, drinking to excess... I know what youngsters are like." Emma says knowingly.

You're not sure if she's fishing for misdeeds or is just having fun at Fie's expense. It could just as easily be one, the other or both at the same time.

>Nope, nothing untoward.
>The only one who's drank anything was me and that had more to do with anaesthesia.
>Sneaking never entered into the equation. Only necessity. Besides, my tent is huge.

I'm starting to like this write-in, though I don't know about asking Fie about her real name since now might not be the right time.
I would vote for the second option but I remember Fie actually drinking a bit in a past thread.

Lel OP looks like you preemptively worked out a better end for the Rockets with this quest.
Hope someone at Gamefreak follows this too in preparation for the eventual Australia region.

Considering some of the stuff I'm seeing in Scarlet, I am kind of smug right now at having - for lackof a better term - 'predicted' as many mechanics and elements as I have.

For a poke-'Straya game though, they need to go one step further with the camping\picnic\ food mechanics and add in just full-out survival mechanics in my view. Or at least give you an actual reason to engage with those mechanics besides 'buffs'.

If there *is* anyone from GameFreak following this, suggestion:

Make stronger pokemon come out at night to incentivise camping. Make travelling in hot places during the heat of the day come with a chance of passing out if you don't drink enough water. Make it so the trainer can get status conditions. Make going in the long grass or off the paths scary.

As for a better end for Team Rocket...

We'll see what they get. It's entirely possible they'll stick around. I hope they do.

If they just get written out... well. We all know where they wound up.
