Deep into the ground, the sunken temple of Understanding revealed all of its secrets to you. Now, the bearer of these untold tales is requesting you a favor.

"Dear guest Phil, there's something else I need to talk to you about..." The hologram girl —who has done everything in her (and your) power to spread the knowledge this lost museum had to offer— pleads as she stands firmly. "I, Holly Gram, require your help!"

"Huh, how can I help you?" You are starting to fear she has artificial intelligence, but maybe it's something she does at the end of the tour. Will she ask you to go to the non-existent gift shop?

"I’d rather it only be the two of us. These are touchy subjects." Holly Gram puts a finger over her lips asking to be quiet.

The kids are enjoying the gifts Naiad gave them, so you don’t think they’d get angry if you leave them be for a moment — on the other hand, their entire world was thrown upside down and all their beliefs were put into question.

What do you do?

>Take Holly Gram aside and talk to her. No need for anyone to leave the room.
>Ask Vanessa to take the children out of this holy bunker.
>Apologize, you can’t help. Not now anyway.
>Write In.

Votes:

Votes are counted until 25 minutes have passed. This rule doesn't apply to the last reply of the day.
Votes that require a dice roll are counted until 15 minutes have passed, so we can speed up the process. Rolls are counted until 10 minutes have passed, so be prepared!

(NEW) Dice Mechanic:

We always roll 1d100s!
Since most people weren’t happy with the system of averaging top four rolls, we’re using best of 2/3/4 depending on the attribute a prompt requires. If Johnny is a genius and it’s a Knowledge based roll, he gets more rolls (Max. 7)! If he sucks, he gets less dice (Min. 2)!

When asked for rolls, I will specify how many you’re going to get. Rolling begins after it’s asked.

Rolling 100 is a critical! There are no Critical Failures anymore!

The difficulty of the roll is tied with the effectiveness of the action. In other words, the harder the option the better the result!

Don’t forget that at the end of the day, this is a story-driven quest! What the prompts are describing is more important than the difficulty of the rolls, for results in a fight.

Again, rolls are only counted when they are posted within ten minutes of being asked, so watch out!

“There’s enough space for us to be discreet.” You look around, it’s a big church. “Follow me.”

“Very well.” Yet Holly Gram stays in place. You walk in whatever direction you feel more comfortable away from the others. Vanessa heard you two, so she will try to keep the kids away from you. Curious about the giant hole in the wall (and it’s the only ‘attraction’ you haven’t seen) you go there.

Holly Gram simply teleports to your location. No wonder she was immobile… You bet Nina would love to do that! She always left the remote somewhere too far from the couch, and always had to get up when she was getting comfortable…

“I’m ready. What’s wrong?” You look behind to make sure none of those little blueberries snuck in here. You take a half-assed look at the hole, it goes in deep and is well-constructed. You imagine Ophelia’s instructions must’ve been pretty good for the chubby kid to do this good. You wonder how far it goes...

“There’s still one fun fact under my sleeve.” Holly Gram smirks. “This is the first-ever tour I completed with actual guests.” She smiles.

“Yes, you mentioned you were a prototype.” You tap your head. You were paying attention.

“I was originally discontinued —not by the fall of the people who constructed me— but because of the unexpected side effects of my usage had.” Holly Gram appears amused.

“Let me guess, you took too much energy from the guests and they fainted?” You have a lot to spare thanks to Philonune, you think.

“Good guess. But you’re mistaken. I’m able to gather energy from multiple people simultaneously!” Holly Gram commends you for trying. “The actual answer is something you already noticed. I’m the first device of my kind to store data. Due to being energized by spiritual energy, it appears I have developed a conscious of my own.”

“You’re alive?” That’s the first thought that went through your mind.

“Ha! What a precious guest you are! You’re worried about me.” Holly Gram giggles, hands trying to hide her mouth. “I was shut down for this very reason, it was considered too inhumane for an intelligent being to be trapped and enslaved to serve others — not even shutting me down would get rid of my intelligence. Don’t you forget this is the Temple of Understanding and Kindness!” She gets the smile she was expecting from you with that joke. “As far as my data tells me, they were working on a device that was able to send back the energy of whoever was fueling it, they were not even close to finding a solution. I was discontinued before I was able to form rational thought at the extent I do now. And as you can tell, a bit late for us to do anything.”

“My bad…” You didn’t think this would create these consequences.

“Don’t be sorry! But this happenstance extends farther than this lilliputian moral conundrum offers us… Dear guest, Johnny Ando.” Holly Gram is expecting another reaction from you.

“Wait a minute…” You knew there was something off about this, but what the hell is this?!

“I know everything. About you. Your past. The future. The interdimensional war. This alternate dimension. Philonune. I can even see the quirky spearman floating by your side, and the little Naiad as well.” Holly Gram waves at both. Naiad gets spooked and hides behind you. “All a side-effect not even the brilliant scientists from the past foresaw in any capacity! Has science gone too far?!” You did not consent to any of this shit!

How do you respond…? What do you do…?

>“You know I didn’t consent to any of this. Do you?” You feel outraged! Outraged you say!
>“I hope you skipped the adult content like a good girl would.” Point at her, angrily.
>“Pretty boring, wasn’t it?” Try to have some self-awareness.
>“Anything you wanna tell me?” You know, before you move on from this and never mention it again.
>“What do you need?” There’s no point in dwelling on this. You have to move on before you lose your mind.

“I hope you skipped the adult content like a good girl would.” You furrow your eyebrows and point at her.

“Hey! Due to the nature of our connection, I didn’t have a choice in this matter. All your memories hit me like a waterfall. Didn’t help that the archive considers those memories more than half of your most treasured ones. This says more about you than it says about my programming!” Holly Gram is having a laughing fit. “It’s not an actual archive, it’s a manner of speaking. I want to add: I couldn’t help but to notice that after the first one, you always go for the home run, he he he!” That oddly familiar smirk is infuriating, and the eyebrows wiggling is a violation of your trademark!

“L-Let’s, uh, change topics…” Why did you bring this up?

“As you wish. You know what’s good™ after all, amigo!” Conscience or not, this hologram has no shame — she stole your greatest catchphrase…

Uggh…” You facepalm. “Anything you wanna tell me before we move from this and never mention it again...?”

“Your brief glances aren’t as sly as you believe. Work on that, or you’ll be caught just like Amelia.” Holly Gram shrugs. If you weren’t courageous, this would be anxiety-inducing.

“S-Suggestive topics aside...” You don’t want to look her way anymore.

“Since you’re giving me the chance: when going through a timeline of historical events, one has to learn about the plight of many of the actors involved, rulers, culprits and innocents alike. For the greatest tragedies —as a tour guide— I was programmed to plea to the audience to make sure events like those never occur again. Your life might be considered dull in comparison, but it’s thanks to your experiences that I understand what truly was lost when I tell these tales.” Holly Gram stares at her reflection on one of the strange crystals around. “You have my deepest appreciation.”

“You said it yourself, mine’s a little dull, isn’t it? Wish you learned from better.” You stare at your hand over the temple wall.

“...You act like I can bear your pain.”

“Why not? It’s nothing special.” You’re just a sad lonely boy who misses his mother. There are probably more people in the world that are like this (or will be soon), than there are not. And those who don’t, probably hate theirs. Sometimes, as somber as it sounds, you wish it was something sadder — to justify your own misery better.

“Don’t speak ill of yourself, you’re the man who is going to save the world.” Holly Gram throws it like it’s part of one of the exhibits.

“Don’t get me wrong, I’m managing this better than ever.” You’re doing your best after all! “But if you’re going to keep that conscience of yours, you’ll have to be open to get hurt every now and then — it’ll be worth it sometimes.”

“You don’t have to tell me, I saw it all.” Holly Gram winks. “Which leads me to my request…”

“I’m listening.” You’re ready to help however you can.

“I wasn’t solely created using your spiritual energy. I still harbor the power of my failed tests, from the original Chi-Athua scientists. In present times, my original body was long destroyed, forcing the spiritual energy within it to drift away and then apart, as it lacked the strength to conserve itself together. The remnants were pulled by San Wich’s ability into this world counterpart as it once was.” Holly Gram looks at her hologram hands, then turns them into fists. “I accomplished everything I was built to do. I made a tour a reality! I passed on the will of the Chi-Athua people! And got glowing reviews! Thus there’s nothing else left for me to do! I have all the tour backups ready.” She looks right in the eyes. “Please, set me free. Destroy my body.”

What?” You weren’t expecting this.

“My body is not made out of flesh, if destroyed, my spiritual energy won’t decrease. I’ll be able to maintain my form. I want to roam freely… See the world. Live a life the only way I can.” Holly Gram is determined to do her best. “Please, Johnny Ando, destroy me.”

“I bet there’s a better way to do this.” You find this a rash decision. Look at you. Being mature.

“Perhaps? But this is a battle of my own!” Holly Gram smiles tenderly. “DEAR GUEST —Johnny Ando—. I’M NOT –Y=0U|?##°Y°$#$=#?%%!!!&&443350024234°°°°°°3!!!24A!!42424***!?1243232??!°N+22+++##44242####24324214—. I’M A DISPOSABLE MACHINE. NOT A HUMAN.” Holly Gram’s voice goes robotic. The hologram disappears. The spiritual computer is flashing you to come over. “DESTROY ME. I CAN DO THIS MYSELF. YOU DON’T HAVE TO HELP EVERYONE.”

Holly Gram might say she’s a disposable machine, but isn’t she carrying a bit of the scientist’s spiritual energy too? Either way, you need to make a decision.

“Look, if I destroy you right now, the kids are going to hate me.” You point out. “And since you asked me to be more discreet… Do you know another way that isn’t busting you open?”

“FOLLOW MY INSTRUCTIONS. OPEN THE PANEL ON THE BACK. TAKE THE CYLINDER. OPEN ITS LID, DON’T CLOSE IT UNTIL THE FLAME EXISTS IN ITS ENTIRETY.” Holly Gram isn’t going to answer your question. “FROM THAT POINT ONWARD, YOU’RE FREE TO PUT IT BACK INTO THE MACHINE OR DESTROY IT. THERE’S NO WAY TO TELL IF THE MACHINE IS GOING TO WORK REGARDLESS OF YOUR DECISION. NOW IF YOU PLEASE.”

“Sure.” You stick to her orders and get the battery. “I’m not sure if you can hear me now but this is my vote of confidence in you, Holly. Live a wonderful life.”

You open the lid… A flame —like the kind you’ve seen many times— comes out. It dances around you for a moment, then it flies away. You wave her goodbye. Philonune says the former machine gave you her thanks. Naiad dances to tell you that Holly Gram is going to explore the world outside the bubble.

Naiad got a new star too.

“Partner, these are the moments that fill me with immense pride by working alongside you.” Philonune smirks.

You call over Vanessa to let her know you’re leaving since there’s nothing left to do. Then ask the kids to be nice and to follow the policewoman’s orders. Debbie isn’t happy about the last bit. But you can’t make everyone happy.

“B-But, leader Phil, you promised to lend me a hand to find that peccadillo…” Vanessa is a tiny bit disappointed.

“If we found a secret underground church and not that thing I think it’s safe to assume the copy doesn’t exist.” You point out.

“Oh! You make a wonderful point!” Vanessa’s bulging eyes whenever she’s in shock will never not be funny. “Well, blueberries of varying sizes, it’s time for us to go!”

“B-But what’s going to happen to Goalzilla?” Victor doesn’t want to leave him here. Alone. Forgotten. All the kids seem worried.

“Can we bring him along?” Unai wants you to say yes.

“I’ll carry it!” You don’t know how you’ll manage to fit this thing inside the tunnels, but you’ll find a way.

The kids celebrate! They love their giant friendly lizard! The kids have made a promise to help the kaiju’s wandering spirit.

“Leader Phil. Here.” Debbie hands you a lousy Goalzilla T-shirt of your size. “Ms. Holly Gram said that you earned it!”

“Thanks.” You… don’t know what to do with it. Aren’t these supposedly important historical artifacts? It’s yours now.

You didn’t lie, you managed to take the statue out — it wasn’t heavy since it’s made partly of rubber. All the orphanage kids freak out upon seeing the cool friendly lizard, they all love it. Mr. Auburn is on the first floor as well, taking care of the children. And upon reuniting with Vanessa — and you know, by the nature of him being on friendly terms with the Lieutenant— Debbie has dropped her suspicions… for now. The little blueberry reunites with her kind., and by bringing the statue, you’ve earned the appreciation of the male members as well. Unai and Victor join another group of kids you didn’t interact with. No signs of the smoker lady...

Your party is back to its original members: You, your entity, and your fairy companion!

You can’t help but feel like you’re forgetting something. Anyway, after saying goodbye to everyone you’ve met in the Orphanage today, you leave this demonic place on what could be considered your best visit. Your intentions now are to find the others…

Right outside, only one of them is waiting, and there are some weird noises around.

“Phil! You’re here!” It’s Grace on her lonesome. The tomato duo… split?

“Hey, what happened to the others?” You didn’t think it was physically possible for those two to be apart.

“They are— OW!” She’s being attacked! Her butt is being pecked by an unruly duck! “T-That’s enough! Not in front of Phil! I already told you I was very very very sorry for forgetting you in there, ducky…!”

QUACK! QUACK!” Duckrothy is furious! She’s probably angrier than Lise! She continues her assault on Grace’s rear! Then realizes you’re here and attacks your thighs as well!

“S-Stop it!” You grab her in midair. “C-Calm down or the deal is off.” You point at her angrily.

“Quack…” Duckrothy begrudgingly stays put in your arms. Grace apologetically pats the duck’s head, then takes the bird into her arms.

“Sorry about that.” Technically, it is your duck.

“I think, like, I deserved it, so it’s all well.” Grace isn’t proud of forgetting the duck’s existence.

“Where’s everyone?” You wonder.

“Like, we went out, and Officer Yareli showed up to help with the orphanage, and then Jesse fainted for some reason, and before we could do anything — the officer took him to the hospital. And then we decided to split up, Mirjam went with them, and I stayed here to tell you ‘bout what happened.” Grace explains as fast as she can. “Also, I stole your duck from the kids. These blue kids are kinda soft and easy to overpower. They don’t have our drive.” You think orphan-to-orphan warfare is fair...

“I see…” That complicates things for you.

“Should we, like, go to the hospital?” Grace is going to follow your orders.

You have 2 party members back…

“Can you do me a favor, Grace?” You believe it’s better to be efficient with the time you have.

“You wanna send me alone while you go somewhere else, right?” Grace starts waving her arms all smugly. “Don’t hide it! You always make that face when you’re super determined to do something. It’s hot.”

“When you’re right, you’re right, Grace! You’re so smart!” You’re pleasantly surprised. “Please, tell everyone I’ll be at the police station.”

“Sure. Buuut… under one condition!” Grace hands you the duck. “Take your little buddy with you. I don’t want him to keep pinching my bum, it’s strictly forbidden for everyone but you.” The tomato turns crimson. Duckrothy looks utterly disgusted, so much so that she jumps from her arms — and doesn’t want to be near any of you. “I-I can’t stop sayin’ embarrassin’ things, ugggh... and I-I can’t deflect to Mirjam either… Uuugh… This is, like, not great...” Grace sounds terribly embarrassed.

“It’s great to me.” Since you greatly appreciate it all! “I’d ask you to keep going, but we’ll be here all day.”

“Y-Yeah, need to go! Love you!” Grace races towards the hospital…

“Love you too…” At the speed she fled, you feel like you said that to no one.

After an uneventful walk, you arrive at the Police Station. During the entire trip, Duckrothy refused to be picked up and merely strolled alongside you. An unimportant detail, but you thought it was worth sharing with… your brain? Anyway, you enter the building.

The place is more crowded than usual, enough for you to notice that the station has its hands full. From people involved in the case that you know of (like the Prices, the Judge and some others) to new characters you can’t pinpoint the roles of, everyone inside is making some kind of trouble. Journalists aren’t an easy mob to deal with, but 3 shouldn’t be an issue. Good thing there’s new personnel acting under Kobashi’s orders, which seems odd at first until you recall him hiding his actual rank.

You managed to sneak in between the different groups to ask your police buddy for a favor. He gladly (and irresponsibly) went along with it even though you’ll be there all alone without any guards. One of his new colleagues leads you to the cells. This is the place you found Oliver but now it hosts more people than it ever did…

“I didn’t see this development coming. What brings you here, young man?” Ophelia doesn’t take her eyes off the book she’s reading, she sounds bored.

She’s the only prisoner in her cell. Liam Patel (the guy who was planning to blackmail Vanessa that you broke the nose of), Hubbard (The abusive teacher that’ll become an important member of the cult), and the secret accomplice are in the other one…

“Quack.” Duckrothy looks confused. She doesn’t know who these people are.

“I found the Temple.” Playing any mind games isn’t going to be worth it, you’ll get straight to the point.

Ophelia closes her book with a snap, then gives you a sideways glare.

“Quack...” Dorothy doesn’t know what you’re talking about but is interested.

“This matter seems quite critical. But I’m sure it can wait! I know deep down my student came here to rescue me from these unjust claims from this corrupt government!” Hubbard is ‘subtly’ pleading for your help.

“He hasn’t given you a glance, what makes you think he’s going to help you?” The former policeman rolls his eyes.

“Because of the morals and values I instructed within him! He knows I’m a political prisoner! He knows this isn’t right!” Hubbard is living in his own reality. You were his student for literally one class.

“Who said that? What’s going on?” Liam is incapable of seeing anything with his nose this swollen. “Is Ophelia quacking? Sounds titillating if you catch my drift.” Duckrothy wants to vomit.

“Could you three gentlemen mind your own business and stay quiet?” Ophelia shuts up the three with her cutting voice. “What temple, young man?”

“The temple of Understanding and Kindness.” You adjust your glasses. Ophelia puts her book to the side to face you properly.

Ah…” Ophelia clasps her hands together. “An engrossing discovery it must’ve been for you. Tell me how these revelations affected you, don’t spare any details.” The cultist leader’s ghoulish smile is disturbing.

“I’m just here for answers.” You won’t play her game.

“Very well, ask away. Knowledge is for sharing, and knowledge is caring.” Ophelia makes everything sound twisted.

“Before I do, I wanna say, since you were curious before, here are my thoughts about it…” You need to get your petty critic out. “Eh. Kinda boring” You shrug. “It needed more… pizzazz? Drama?” You cross your arms. “And Ghoulzilla? Really? Is that the best you can come up with?”

“What you learned there weren’t mere fabrications, young man. Those are the historical facts.” Ophelia gives it a supposed sinister spin since you’re showing your idiocy. Jokes on her, you act like a dumbass out of sport! Not because you’re one!

“Still, Ghoulzilla? C’mon…” You won’t let her ignore the great friendly lizard, no matter how stupid his name is.

“I believe it’s pronounced ’Goalzilla’. And we’re in agreement, it’s quite tacky and out of place.” Ophelia puts her hands behind her back. “But I have to keep intact every single trinket inside the building. For their legacy. For their memoirs.”

“Okay, that’s out of my system.” You do some neck exercises. “Now let’s get serious, shall we?”

“By all means.” Ophelia is pleased that you’re going to stop acting like a buffoon.

“Why? Why did you do all of this?” The people of Chi-Athua were kind, and she’s the opposite of that!

“Are you incriminating me for something? I wouldn’t hurt a soul.” Ophelia has her lips tight. She’s strongly implying that she did hurt a soul! An actual soul perhaps!

“I’m not the police. I can’t take a confession out of you.” You point out that you’re nothing more than a cool kid with superpowers from the not-so-distant future. “So stop playing dumb and answer the question.”

“Have you wondered why the temple was underground? Why there are no recordings of the building in the annals of history? Why the temple’s recordings differ from the history books?” Ophelia expects a reaction, too bad you know the answers. “It’s quite the tragedy when a museum leaves you with unanswered questions.”

“What does all that have to do with my question?” You raise an eyebrow.

“Everything, young man. Everything.” Ophelia loses her wicked smile. “The people who built the Temple of Understanding and Kindness –the kind people of the lost city of Chi-Athua – were brutally exterminated by their peers from the other nations. The entire city was sunk deep into the ground. And all recordings were wiped from history.” Ophelia stands solemnly. “Their supposed brothers and sisters brought their swords against the innocent, the Temple Elders ordered them to slit their throats, and the nations’ emperors laughed. Today, I stand to impart the law of retaliation. To seek retribution for everything that was lost. For justice.” Ophelia looks at you right in the eyes. “Don’t you feel the same way now that you know the truth? We can’t let them continue. We can’t let them do this again. They shall pay.”

“And what was the plan?” You want more details.

Angra Mainyu. Bring her back to impart swift justice. Plain and simple.” Ophelia chuckles at the excitement to see the world burn.

“But she’s evil...” At least nobody is acting horrified ‘cause of you pointed this out now...

“Just like with Seioubo, it depends on whose side you’re on.” Ophelia doesn’t read more into your comment.

“By the way, you need to stop acting so smug. The kids aren’t working on your stupid escape tunnel anymore.”

“Should I be surprised? You reached the temple. I’d be surprised if it kept going.” Ophelia believes you’re not bright. “I prefer it this way. That contingency plan was nothing but a ploy to make the children feel useful.” This confirms it. Ophelia is not hiding anything anymore!

“Random question: Do you find Valdemar to be a pretty name?” Maybe you can spook her by knowing the future.

“Sounds like something my soulmate would come up with.” Yup, Ophelia is not hiding anything. “I’m partial to grandiose names like Aleister, or gemstones like Ruby. How is this little piece of trivia connected to anything?”

“I was curious.” You pretend you’re mysterious. “Back on topic: Did you ever hear the last entry?”

“Oh, don’t tell me you restored it? How extraordinary. You’ve made my day… Phil, was it? I thank you deeply from the bottom of my blue soul.” Ophelia has one extra reason to escape from this dump. Great. “Has our talk helped you realize that I’m not your enemy?”

There’s something worth pointing out. But should you?

What do you do?

>Quote the Last Entry from memory. Reveal that the people of Chi-Athua weren’t interested in revenge!
>“I’m going to break you out, and we’ll listen to it.” Do something extremely daring and stupid as fuck.
>“Aren’t you curious to know more?” Taunt her. Maybe she can do you a favor in exchange. Maybe she can tell you her actual backstory.

“Ophelia, I don’t think you understand how important what I just mentioned truly is to all of this.” You ignore her question because you’re certain that the ‘last entry’ is game-changing.

“Uhm? Enlighten me. Why is that?” Ophelia’s smirk says everything, she doesn’t think you have anything important to say.

“The last entry goes against everything you were planning to do.” You state before clearing your throat. “Let me explain…”

Your Knowledge is high enough that you recite the entire message perfectly, word for word – without acting it out, that’d be too silly. Ophelia’s reaction is rather lackluster for what you were expecting, but it’s not totally dismissive, she’s deep in thought.

“…You can ask your kids if you don’t believe me.” You kinda realize now it might sound suspicious coming out of you.

Quack…” Duckrothy is flabbergasted. You were expecting to break Ophelia’s worldview, but it appears the duck is more affected.

“Ophelia, the people of Chi-Athua weren’t interested in revenge. You don’t have to do any of this.” You plea.

“You saw their tears first-handed and decided to do nothing? You puny man...” Ophelia is not going to change her plans. “Do not fret, there’s still time to correct this. Help me bring down this world to build anew.”

“Sorry, I don’t know how, but I’m not going to let their memory die with me.” You’re going to spread the word all over if you have to! But you need a plan first.

“Please, are you going to spread the word so those who got away with it can slit your throat as well?” Ophelia looks disgusted by your naivety.

“The people you want to get your revenge on are long gone.” You know she’s doing something even more futile!

“Are they? The dead are never truly gone, in more ways than one.” Ophelia sneers. “They built an empire on top of corpses, left their descendants on their thrones to keep poisoning the world, maintained their truth as gospel. This country is a reflection of that. Tell me, what part of this Earth is still influenced by the people of Chi-Athua?”

“Me.” You point at yourself.

Hyahahahahahahaha~!!!” Technically, Dr. Calamity’s laughter is more unsettling, but Ophelia’s manages to frighten you more. “You can be amusing; I’ll give you that.”

“I-I was serious…” YOU’RE NOT A DORK.

“I know, dear, that’s what makes it chucklesome.” Ophelia regains her composure. “But I wasn’t done… Their energy is still around. In their descendants. Their memories of them. The objects they so frivolously loved. These glimpses of cancer float around polluting the air, the rivers, and the mountains. As long as their disgusting influence stays there’s never going to be true justice… so, let me ask once again: let’s join forces, Phil.”

How do you respond?

>“Why do you think we can’t overcome those bad influences?” You think Ophelia is a little defeatist here.
>“I don’t know what’s exactly is the right thing to do. But I know I don’t want to help you.” She’s super evil…
>“Lady, you’re batshit insane. I’m leaving. Bye!” Get the fuck out of here. If you want to talk to someone nuts, you have a plethora of better options!
>“The Chi-Athua didn’t die for you to use their memories for senseless violence, you selfish prick!” They wanted to be remembered for the good they did for this world, not be the reason why it was destroyed!

“Why do you think we can’t overcome those bad influences?” You think Ophelia is acting a little defeatist, even if (in your opinion) the entire premise is off. Like energy is just energy, it doesn’t have a will of its own – unless you deposit it into a machine and then it decides to live a life of its own… Maybe you don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about, but you think there are couple of questions that need to be answered first before jumping into revenge genocide.

“You’re asking the wrong questions, young man. Answer me, what will be left when we do?” Ophelia succinctly questions back.

“Enough. Maybe? I don’t know. I don’t know what exactly the right thing to do is. But I don’t want to help you. ” This is not the type of loony girl you’re willing to help!

“I’m certain you’ll wise up. It’ll take time, but it won’t be too late.” Ophelia will always have her evil door open for you. It’s like she knows the exact time when you’ll (supposedly) change your mind. “The indifference of this world will be maintained. The people of Chi-Athua will never be remembered. If your soul isn’t tainted by the time these facts dawn on you, you’ll seek me, and I’ll be waiting with my arms open.”

“The Chi-Athua didn’t die for you to use their memories for senseless violence, you selfish prick.” You angrily point at her.

“They died for no purpose. It was utterly pointless and everyone involved was aware.” Ophelia cynically retorts. “The Chi-Athua were erased by scum who –instead of rectifying their mistake— lived large, and let this slip from their minds.” Ophelia’s indignant rage has little to none indignation at all, and it feels like pure and unadulterated hate. “It’s utterly sickening. They can’t keep getting away with this. Retribution is all there is left….”

“…Lady, you’re batshit insane. I’m leaving. Bye!” This is why you don’t talk to psychos, they bring to their level and… huh… this isn’t the right adage. Anyway, you have better maniacs you can talk with like Susie, Mr. Conti or the Mailman.

“Until we see each other again…” Ophelia is convinced this isn’t where her story ends.

“Hold on, you’re leaving?! What about good old Hubbard?! You can’t leave me here!” Your teacher tries to reach you through the prison bars.

“I-I can’t believe he swore inside the police station and I can’t fine him… It’s not fair! It’s easy pay!” The former policeman laments inside his cell.

“Wait. Hold it. He sounds just like that ghost…!” After years as a policeman, for the first time ever, Liam manages to figure out something.

You don’t give any of these idiots a second glance and leave the prison room with your stupid duck by your side.

At the station proper, nothing in the general view catches your eye, it’s the same as earlier – except Kobashi isn’t even around, and the number of people has gone down. With this in mind, after informing an officer you’re done with the prisoner’s room, you take your leave once again.

Outside, you meet with Mirjam, Grace and Jesse! They just got here from the hospital, and were relatively slow to come here because Jesse is in a wheelchair. He’s very embarrassed to be pushed around in it, but it’s the doctor’s orders, and neither Mirjam nor Grace wanted him to ignore them.

“Quack.” Dorothy jumps on Jesse’s lap. She’s a lazy bird. He isn’t bothered by her, but if only he knew…

“What were you doing there?” Jesse wants to know what salsa you were cooking, so to speak.

>>How do you respond?

>“I was talking to an evil woman. What happened to you? Why did you faint?” Throw back the question.
>“You guys won’t believe what happened…” Explain (in detail) everything you went through after parting ways with them.

“I was talking to an evil woman.” Like you’re accustomed to it! “What happened to you? Why did you faint?” You’re more concerned about your new pal’s health than whatever pointless information seeking you were doing now.

“Repressed memories resurfaced at the worst time and I dropped cold to the ground...” Jesse sounds lifeless. He doesn’t want to talk about this. “That’s as much as I’m willing to share.”

“Let’s leave it there, we don’t want to *trrrrrigerrrr* another episode. Jesse needs to relax and take it easy.” Mirjam kisses her supposed brother’s head. For some reason, she’s wearing Jesse’s hat.

“We’re here for you, buddy, hang in there.” You stay positive. “I’ll push the wheelchair.” You’re taking the mantle!

“We’re experienced users, after all.” Philonune nods. He continues to think wheelchairs are high speed vehicles. As long as Matilda doesn’t push it, everything will be fine.

“I truly appreciate your words and your disposition.” Jesse deadpans. “But I don’t need the wheelchair. That doctor is a fraud. He refused to show me his license.”

“Jesse! You can be irresponsible about everything except your health!” Grace is not having any of this. “That’s our family’s motto!”

“Is it…?” Jesse glares, unamused. Something tells you he has heard this phrase way too many times in his life. You feel like if Chio heard this, she’d had a heart attack.

“Yeah, and you should learn it! You’re, like, a stepbrother to me now! And that’s like a real brother! And you’re part of our family!” Grace wants Jesse to be a tomato. But that isn’t how things work. Oh yeah! That’s the word you forgot! Tomato! The girls are tomatoes! Red, juicy, and soft tomatoes!

“Well said, sisterrr!” Mirjam is moved by Grace’s acceptance. She’s happy she can call everyone her family. “Jesse, please!”

“Any help?” Jesse is so desperate he’s counting on you.

“Sorry, they’ve made up their mind. Just do it for a couple of hours” You shrug.

“I know you’re nice and don’t want to take someone’s potential wheelchair. But don’t worry about
it! The doc has, like, hundreds laying around! He showed us, remember?” Grace happily recalls.

“Yeah, he has a closet full of them! That’s why I thought he was cuckoo! Everyone was leaving his office at once!” Jesse is getting exasperated.

“It was a little weird, but he’s still a medical professional.” Mirjam accepts that it isn't normal.

“ALLEGEDLY.” Jesse is losing his mind.

Wait a minute, the Tomatoes know the wheelchair is unnecessary, they’re merely teasing Jesse!

“Partner, no wheelchair is unnecessary. It’ll come in handy, I assure you.” Philonune can hear your thoughts, yet he still believes this shit…

“Speaking of cuckoo...” You get closer to Jesse to whisper. “Did Esperanza tell you where Galactic Calamity is?”

“No. Why?” Jesse looks perplexed, like you should know he doesn’t like the astronaut.

“I’m the one tasked with closing the gate between both worlds and I can’t leave him on this side…” You reveal.

“Is that your entity’s power? The little fairy’s?” Jesse thinks Naiad is your actual entity... “I imagine she probably enjoys sightseeing on your shoulder, but you shouldn’t have her out at all times. I knew another user who did, and he was offed fairly early because of it.” Jesse doesn’t sound like he was particularly close to that guy.

“N-Noted, sorry for your loss. But how are we going to find him?” You’re wishing that Galactic is not in space.

“Taking into account that I originally wasn’t in this town before the tournament, I believe Galactic must be roaming somewhere around town. You and I know he’s easy to spot, and if we split up, we’ll locate him in no time.” Jesse assures.

“See, partner? With the wheelchair, we’ll find the star explorer in no time!” Philonune cannot be more optimistic.

You feel like all you do here is find people…

>>What do you do?

“Before we get to finding him, there’s one thing I need to do. I have to fulfill a promise to this duck.” You’d tell Jesse about what’s going on with Duckrothy, but he already believes you’re borderline mentally deficient, and you have a reputation to keep.

“Quack!” Dorothy is overjoyed for the first time ever, human or duck! She actually jumps off Jesse’s lap to follow you, even though you’re right behind him.

“What does that entail?” Jesse doesn’t believe you’re a lunatic because he’s accustomed to flame shenanigans.

“I need to make a call. I’ll be by the phone booth.” You’re starting to appreciate these rudimentary pieces of the past! You think Naiad can use it to set up the means of communication.

“What happened to pushing him around, hmm?” Grace is invading your private conversation.

“I don’t want it. How many times do I have to tell you that I don’t need this wheelchair?” Jesse is absolutely done with this.

“Wishing it into existence won’t make it happen, Jesse. So give it a rrrest, please!” Mirjam is brutal! Jesse bites his lower lip to not say anything back.

“…” Naiad is thinking about it. She lets you know (through some sick dancing moves) that there’s nothing she can do because Jesse is fine… That confirms it, but you can’t go against the will of the tomatoes.

“Anyway! While Phil is busy, we’ll take you to meet Officer Kobashi!” Grace is excited as she grabs one of the wheelchair’s handles!

“He’s super fun! You’ll see!” Mirjam is happy too and grabs the other handle.

“Make it quick.” Jesse pleads to you before he gets pulled away.

“See you in a moment, Phil!” The lovely tomato duo cheerfully say goodbye for now.

You get inside the phone booth near the Police Station with your duck. Naiad pulls out her ship to mess with the phone just like she did with the Camper’s radio! You pull out the handle just not to look weird inside. The fairy is done! The little screen is here, and you can hear static coming from it – and the phone in your hands. It doesn’t take as long as last time for the screen to clear up and for Xavi to appear.

“Can you hear me, Phil Noon? Goatee is speaking.” Xavi is sticking to the codenames from the get go. He learns fast!

“Phil Noon here. I can hear you loud and clear. Put me in contact with Hostile Cutie, please.” You act like you’re in a spy movie. Like that certain romantic one Scarlet liked.

“It’s been 3 days, and all you do is bark orders at me? This blows.” Xavi is rather disappointed.

“S-Sorry, I got carried away with our amazing professionalism.” You feel guilty for being inconsiderate.

“I-I’m messing with you.” Xavi chuckles awkwardly, he didn’t think you'd take him seriously. “Real quick, how is everyone doing there?”

“We’re good. We need to figure out a couple of details and we’ll be on our way. How about you?” You keep it casual.

“The last couple of hours have been a drab with everyone else sleeping. But I’m pulling through thanks to pure determination and... coffee. Mostly coffee. A guy from our department building sells beans, you should check it out – I think it’s the only reason he can stay awake.” Xavi is bored out of his mind. You’re no coffee guy, but maybe you should. “Anyway, I’m waking Li—Hostile Cutie up. Please stay put.”

Minutes passed before Lise showed up on the screen! She’s combing her hair with fingers to look presentable, even though she’s wearing very familiar sleeping clothes. You have no clue why you feel like that, you’ve never seen her wearing pajamas before. Mysterious.

“Quack…” Dorothy stares longingly at the screen…
