In the 41st Millenium, there is only war. For thousands of years, a man's life was often worth less than the clothes which covered him. For the vast majority of humanity living within the Imperium of Man, there is little room for hope, as most simply focused on surviving each day as best they could, attempting to eke out whatever miserable existence they could underneath the oppressive gaze of the Inquisition and the Ecclesiarchy. Indeed, in such a future as this, there is simply no way for any one man to change the galaxy for the better.

Or at least, there wasn’t.

Until one fateful day, when a meek scavenger living in the Boiadero underhive, one of billions on just that world alone, made a miraculous discovery: The Holy Bible. The unadulterated word of the Lord changed this man forever, and it stirred within him a fire he never knew existed. Now gifted with wondrous powers, and with his congregation growing along with their home, Kvar Quickhands sets out on the next leg of his journey to bring the word of God and the mercy of Jesus upon every soul within the massive hive world of Boiadero.

And perhaps one day, beyond it.

The boy is silent other than the occasional sniffle as you both walk back to the Temple. You figure it best not to disturb him too much, he clearly has a lot on his mind. Although you do ask him for his name, to which he simply mutters “Kieran…” After that, you both continue in silence, and you think back on the experience you both shared.

You suppose you know what your new gift is now, although the feeling of your minds and souls merging was certainly… Disconcerting. Still though, even now you can tell that a weight has been lifted off the boy's shoulders, even if you will never know exactly what it was that haunted him. He definitely seems a lot calmer now, at least. Eventually, you both make it to the now familiar street housing your Temple, and as you walk to the gate, you hear Bolt call out “Hey! Kvar’s back everyone. And he’s got a… Friend?”

The gate is opened quickly as Bolt immediately welcomes you and Kieran with a warm smile, and when you tell her to get a bowl of algae gruel and a bed ready for him, she nearly drags him off as she assaults him with a wall of chatter and questions. Smirking to yourself, you take a moment to survey the improvements to your Temple your flock made while you were away, and you’re pretty pleased with the progress. A dedicated lavatory, a bathing room with a makeshift tub hidden behind some wooden walls, as well as an improved and lengthened dining table in the main factory floor with twelve simple chairs set up along it.

You go to inspect the barracks and are pleased to see that there are more beds now, and the beds themselves seem to be much more comfortable than the spartan constructs you all had to sleep on before, and as you look in the second floor you see that the office overlooking the factory floor has been converted into a laundry room, with a small collection of clothes stacked next to another makeshift tub, several tools for cleaning clothes by hand scattered around it.

Contented with the progress, you eat a ration bar biscuit in bed as your form of dinner, choosing to turn in a little earlier than everyone else as everything you’ve done and experienced today has made you profoundly tired. Still, when you finally drift to sleep your mind is undisturbed by dreams, and the next morning you wake up refreshed and ready to face the day.

The Market! Buy some more seeds, some weapons, anything. Even more scraps for Algae tanks, even.

Let's not put it off any longer.

>Head to the market in the old cistern. You have a good amount of funds at the moment, and you can think of a hundred different things your Temple needs that a trip to the market would solve.

With a bit of money in our pockets, we can see about getting a few useful things now that food's not too much of a problem. Plus, a trip to the market won't take up as much time as charity work.

>Seek out Marella. You still feel a little guilty about what happened last night, and you just want to talk with her to make sure everythings fine, and to just… Clear the air, a bit. It couldn’t hurt just to say hello, right?

we need to improve the defenses and we have given Marella a week, we need to ensure Chaos does not have the change to corrupt her heart against us and we should pursue our relationship with her perhaps even soul bond and heal some of her spiritual wounds

It's only been a day since the last post actually. Although you can still visit Marella of course, oftentimes just a day apart can be enough for tempers to cool.

>Continue with your charity work. You’ve made good progress already and you figure it is only a matter of one or two more trips before you have more converts. Besides, the act of charity is a reward all its own.

The flock needs to grow. For a variety of reasons : Seeing new and old faces, new experiences and stories to share and learn from, safety in numbers and so on.

>>Spend 10 units of scrap to improve the Temple's defenses. You’re quite pleased with the improvements to the Temple's level of comfort, but the current defenses leave much to be desired. Time to change that.
Yeah, let's focus on fortifying first.

I'll back >>5515350 but maybe we could ask Marella out for a market date? Im certain that even in the grim darkness of the 41st millenium, women still love to go shopping. Then Kvar could dull that edge of hers while they do charity work together, get to know both her and that "stranger". Though maybe Im getting too carried away with all this.
>>
>>5515392
>preacher and her could have something special is we don't bungle it.
I agree, but I'd feel better if we didn't go to visit her so soon for that very reason.
Another day at least should be safe, and even if she gets some sort of Chaos influence we have our Sacred Heart to remove any defect from a person.

Actually here’s an idea, when we reach the market why don’t we buy something nice for Marella for when we go visit her, maybe wine if that exists in the underhive
>>
>>5515778
>wine in the underhive
It's possible I guess, but it would probably only be good for getting drunk.
Marella is against drugs, but I don't think we know what her stance on alcohol is (unless I missed something last thread).
>>
>>5515980
Good point, how about some flowers but since it’s the underhive maybe it’s made of a tin or something? Is chocolate even a thing in 40K
>>
File: pruno.jpg (42 KB, 640x480)
42 KB
42 KB JPG
>>5515778
Well... somebody would probably be selling pruno I guess.
>>
>>5515778
Wine would be a difficult thing to find in the underhive, although it certainly exists in vast quantities in the Hive City itself. Not to say that it would be impossible to find down here, but it would be exceedingly rare, and therefore expensive. On the other hand, there is a great amount of other, cheaply made and produced alcohol that would be much easier to find. For example, algae wine and beer is the most common and popular alcohol in most of the underhive, given it's ease of production and availability of the main ingredient. Another thing to consider is the possibility of brewing your own spirits with whatever fruits and veg your plants end up growing, which would most likely be incredibly popular given how rare most fruits and veg are to grow and find down in the underhive.

>>5516083
Chocolate is also another thing that is surprisingly not so rare in the Boiadero underhive, although real cocoa may as well not exist down here, not that any underhiver knows the difference. Not to say that it's impossible to find real chocolate down here, but it would be extremely rare and incredibly expensive.

Anyways, here's the vote count:
>Charity: 7
>Fortify: 9
>Market: 5
>Marella: 1

So would you all like to do all three (charity, market, fortify) or just pick one or two to focus on? Keep in mind that spreading yourself too thin may make the results of each of your votes less successful than if you had just focused on one or two, but the choice is yours either way.

Since you have plenty of scrap you decide to tell your followers to set to work fortifying the Temple, a job they are all too happy to get started on after their shared experience during the battle with the cult. While they’re doing that, for the next week you continue with your acts of charity, although surprisingly, you run into a curious problem:

Almost all of the people you helped out last time have disappeared. You do some asking around about them, but unsurprisingly most underhivers haven’t noticed the disappearance of some of the area’s most unfortunate and destitute. Still, you continue helping out those who will allow you to, although your progress has been slowed by the fact that the people you spent the most time with have simply vanished.

The people you do help this time however still seem promising, as over the week you make steady contact with four unfortunates, and they all seem to show an interest in you and your faith, and especially the promise of a warm bed and hot food. While you’re doing that for the week, you also make some stops at the local market in the old dried up cistern, picking up odds and ends that seem useful or curious.

>Another crate full of ration bar biscuits, apparently the guy lucked into another stash but he tells you “These things are gettin’ ‘arder and ‘arder to find, so the price has to go up. Sorry mate.” 50 Thrones

>Several plastic barrels and all the stuff needed to brew some alcohol, the lady selling it is rather gruff, although she does seem very passionate about liquor. 30 Thrones

>A plastic barrel full of algae wine, the man selling it says it’s one of his better batches. 40 Thrones

>A couple cartons of Lho sticks, you know there are several in your congregation that would be very pleased to receive this. 35 Thrones

We'll need wine for the communion.

>A sack full of algae bread loaves, the lady selling them swears that they are ‘delicious’ and filling, and you suppose that if nothing else it will be a nice break from algae gruel and ration bar biscuits. 35 Thrones

It'll help keep our stomachs full.

>An automatic stubber rifle, the man won’t say where he got it from but it seems to be in pretty good condition. 60 Thrones

It's no lasgun, but it'd be a good chance to help increase our defenses alongside the fortifications to the temple.

we need to look into the disappearances or have our hiveganger allies do so, this is a disturbing development.

>>A small packet of seeds with the picture too faded to make out, the man offering them says with a smirk that they can grow “Magical fruit that can make the sweetest songs ye ever heard!” 25 Thrones

it might be a scam probably is but we need all the seeds we can get to try and get proper crops going.

>Several plastic barrels and all the stuff needed to brew some alcohol, the lady selling it is rather gruff, although she does seem very passionate about liquor. 30 Thrones

why buy whine when in time we can make our own and even eventually sell.

>An automatic stubber rifle, the man won’t say where he got it from but it seems to be in pretty good condition. 60 Thrones

with the many dangers of the underhive this is a must.

I am against the pigs because we simply do not have a place for them and we haven't got a stable crop rotation going yet, we are still on the rations, and algie once we have a net positive weekly food gain then we should revisit this. as for buying more food I don't see the need right now we have 2 months stores and the money to experiment so we should once we drop to 1 month and a week we should see about buying more food if we haven't already become a net food producer by then.
>>
>>5517534
>as for buying more food I don't see the need right now

I suggested it due to the fact that when our flock grows bigger, that means more mouths to feed. I want to be prepared in that eventuality.
>>
>>5517553
I agree but for the moment our population is stable, and we have plans in motion to secure food production, right now we need to use this "good season" to start the ball rolling on other projects, namely the spirits production, and more plant seeds

TQM i would like us to ask questions in the market if they heard anything of this. People we were trying to aid/convert vanishing should be a concern.

It might be slavers or similar, a mundane evil. I have heard there can be also human mutants, xeno animals and plants in certain underhives. Regardless, someone is preying on the people we aid. This someone needs a reminder to not touch civilians in our surroundings. Garbage filled tunnels and rooms probably help to conceal them. We will need to start cleaning our surroundings, when we have more members.

The rifle would be a good weapon for our ex guardsman.

Next time we can look around the market for other things. If we have the thrones to use. Tools, clothing and what not. Books perhaps. Weapons.... there was pistols last time.
If we don't have money, we can craft shitty melee weapons. Nothing exceptional but its what most people have for defend themselves here in the underhive if they have 0 thrones.

During your trips to the market you pick up a handful of things, just odds and ends that seemed like it could be useful. In particular you are excited about the brewing kit, which will be very useful when your crops are finally ready for harvest. You were never that into alcohol to begin with, but that just might change once you can make a brew out of real, fresh fruit. Whatever fruit it ends up being, that is. Not to mention that fruit and vegetable liquors would almost certainly be very popular down here, a potential revenue source should you decide to sell whatever you end up brewing.

With that in mind, you also picked up a packet of mystery seeds, and while you are doubtful they are actually magical, an extra crop in the rotation certainly won’t hurt. You also bought the stubber rifle, which seems to be a good sight better than the shoddy, rusted stubbers Marella looted from the cultists. You think you’ll give it to Reek, as an ex-Guardsmen you’re certain he’ll make great use of it, although you pray that that time never comes.

And… The disappearances of your potential converts troubles you deeply. You want to hope that it’s just a coincidence, that they simply moved away, but… Another part of you knows that something bad is afoot. So you ask around the market during your trips about those poor souls who’ve vanished, but nobody you talked to has heard about it, or even knew that any of them existed to begin with. Although you do occasionally pick up murmurs of people going missing all over the area, seemingly disappearing without a trace.

They’ll be there one day, living their lives as best they could, as they always did, and then… Gone. Like they never existed to begin with.

Troubling. Very troubling indeed.

By the end of the week, you give your weekly sermon. And you are pleased to see almost all of the Jags in attendance, yet again. Although, Marella doesn’t seem to be in the crowd. You try not to think about it while you preach, but you can’t help but feel disappointed. Maybe you should seek her out, if nothing else but to ask for her help with investigating the disappearances. Surely she can’t still be mad at you, right? And either way, you think it’d feel… Good, to see her again.

You finish your sermon and share a light dinner with your congregation and some of the Jags, and the next morning you awaken ready and determined to face the day. God is with you, as always.

You decide that you will partake in the training regimen after all. You don’t want to be the kind of leader that tells his followers to do things that he himself wouldn’t do, and besides, learning a bit of fighting skills can’t hurt. So that morning you show up to the daily training session held right outside the Temple, surprising everyone, although you can tell that they’re all pleased to see you there, Reek especially.

“Hey there Kvar, ‘bout time you showed up to one of these, heh.” He jests, a sly grin adorning his face. “Don’t think I’ll go easy on ya just ‘cuz yer a holyman.” Smiling, you simply fall in line with the rest of the congregation as Reek takes you all through the training, starting off with some intense exercise. He pushes you all surprisingly hard, taking each of you to your very limit, then forcing you to go beyond it for a few moments, before taking a short break and doing it all over again.

Sprints, jumping jacks, push ups, sit ups, back to sprints. This goes on for about an hour, or at least it feels that way, and by the time the exercise portion of the training is finally over, your muscles are singing, and sweat pours off of you. Still, you think you did better than expected, perhaps your years of scavenging has prepared you in some way for this.

Next up is a short break, followed by melee training. Given that you have no targets to practice against, he simply shows you all how to effectively swing a weapon, starting with demonstrating the correct stance, where exactly your feet should be while you swing, how to turn your hips into the swing, how to retract it smoothly while at the same time readying for the next strike, and then back into it, switching stance and techniques occasionally. While you’re all doing that, he occasionally steps in to correct someone's stance or swing technique, and after another hour or so of this, he calls for another break.

Finishing up, apparently he’s been having everyone disassemble and reassemble their personal firearm, seemingly believing that they are all simply unfit to shoot until they know their gun inside and out. Although you think he’s really just trying to save up on your limited stockpile of ammunition. You practice with a rusty stubber pistol, unwilling to risk damaging your lasgun with disassembly.

By the end of it, you feel truly tired. But also at peace, the constant exercise and practice keeping your mind clear of any worry other than what you are doing moment to moment. And if you do say so yourself, you think you did pretty good! It seems as though Reek is focusing on breaking down and then building back up each person individually before he gets to work on teaching them how to fight effectively as a team, a training method that you agree with.
>>
>For performing well at the training, you gain a +5 to all combat rolls. Further, consistent training may improve it even more.

After you’ve rested a bit and recovered, you decide to head off to the Jags hideout to see Marella. You’ve got plenty to talk to her about other than your relationship, namely the spate of disappearances taking place all over the area. If there really is something insidious going on, you know you and her are going to have to work together to get to the bottom of it, just like you did with that degenerate cult.

As you walk to the hideout, you think back on your first trip you made here, back when you first found the Temple. It seemed so scary, back then. The Jags especially seemed to you as little more than a pack of violent thugs. You chuckle to yourself at the silliness of the notion, now that you know most of them personally, they seem as far from that as possible. Most of them are little more than kids that were sick of being pushed around by flake dealers and gangers, and decided to band together to protect themselves and put a stop to the flake trade wherever they could. A noble goal, even if their methods are… a little extreme, at times.

You’re pulled out of your reverie when you find yourself at the front door of the hideout, Ace propping up the building at his usual place next to the door, the very same shotgun he shoved in your face when you first met leaning against the wall next to him.

“Hoi there, Kvar. You here to see Marella?” When you tell him that you are, he chuckles a bit as he says “Alright then mate, it’s about time. Oi, Ginny!” He yells through a broken window next to the door, “What?!” shouts back a shrill, feminine voice. “Get off your fat arse and get Marella, the holyman’s here to see her!” You then hear a loud and drawn out sigh, and then a minute or two later Marella comes out the door.

You lock eyes for a moment, before she looks away, blushing slightly as she says “What’s up, preacherman?”

>Write in what to talk about with Marella.

>Let a small but warm smile rest on your face saying "I am glad to see I am still welcome, and later on I would like to it and have a private and happy conversation with you." pause and enjoy the moment, before frowning slightly and continuing, "But first I have come with ill tidings and dark omens. For the past weeks, I have been helping the downtrod and spreading the work of God to those who will listen when I went to do so a couple of days ago, every last one of the people I have been aiding and ministering too was gone without a trace. With no obvious means of finding them, I went on to the market and asked about them, but none knew anything. Had that been the end of it I would have let it go, but there are rumors and murmurings that people have been disappearing all over the area, vanishing without a trace." let the frown deepen as your mind wanders back to the cultists you jointly put down, "With our recent purification of that pagan cult, I fear something worse has begun to take root, and after seeing what they did I do not want to give whatever this new threat is time to consolidate its power. If we work together to find the source of the disappearances before it's too late we might be able to save the disappeared and prevent any more vanishing from happening."

You smile. It seems like she’s not angry anymore, or at least, not as angry anymore. You open your mouth to speak when she cuts you off, saying “I’m sorry, Kvar. I… Overreacted, I guess. You were right. We should take it slow, I… I wasn’t myself, when I… Y’know.”

You understand, and you tell her as much. You could have something special here, you think. Something real with her. You don’t want either of you to make any mistakes. Grinning, she offers to take you on a walk down the street, an offer that you accept. As you walk, you talk about this or that. Checking in on each other. You tell her about the training you’ve been doing with Reek, she tells you about the ongoing scrapes she and her Jags have been getting into with the Rashers.

Nothing serious, apparently. Just the usual. Eventually though, you steer the conversation towards something serious. Potentially deadly serious: the ongoing disappearances all over the area.

“You’ve ‘eard of that? Yah, nasty business from what I’ve gathered. People picked off at random, nobody ever sees who comes and takes em. Just one day, they’re gone.”

You ask her if anyone she knows went missing, to which she says “Aye. A wee old lady, used to cook the slop they’d serve over at the pubs in the market, been doing it for longer than I can remember, just up and vanished a few days ago. She was always real sweet to me, even when I was a wean. Why, you know anyone gone missing?”

You tell her that the people you had been helping out last week all disappeared without a trace, and that nobody knows why or how they got taken away. Her face screws up at that, when she turns and grabs your hand, squeezing it hard. “You be careful now Kvar, you hear? I doubt they’re targetin’ you in particular, you’re not that important or well known for somebody powerful to wanna take a real shot at, but still.”

You tell her that you will be, and you ask her if she has anything in mind to be done about the disappearances, to which she says “Aye, I’ve been thinking of a little something. Whoever's doing the taking seems to mostly go after the weak, homeless and old. So I was thinking, why not lay out a bit of bait for em? I know this stupid flake addict, man’ll do anything to get his next fix. One of me boys, a real egghead, can whip up a little tracking device that we can plant on em, then all’s we gotta do is just wait for em to be kidnapped, and then follow it to the source.”
>>
Its… A plan, alright. You’re not sure if you’re comfortable with risking the life of an innocent man, when Marella sees the look on your face and says “Oi, I know what you’re thinking. But don’t worry holyman, this bleeder won’t be missed by nobody. He’s real scum, and he could OD any day now. Why not make em useful for once in his bloody life? And I need you and your healing power to help out in case anything goes wrong once we actually do track em down.”

Her plan is tempting, certainly. But…

You won’t risk an innocent man's life, even if he is a drug addict. And so you say “Christ’s compassion is infinite. I’m not about to throw this man to the wolves, addict or not.” She huffs at that as she says “Well you got any better ideas holyman? This is our best bet.”

“I can’t deny that using him as bait wouldn’t stir the kidnappers into activity.” You say soflty as you squeeze her hand, “Perhaps we could lay a trap for them instead? Use somebody they would go after, and then ambush them when they take the bait?”

She grins, contorting her scar in a way that you’re still not completely used to as she says “Now you’re speaking my language, Kvar!” You walk and talk a little longer, and she tells you that it’ll take a while, maybe a week or so for her to get the tracker and everything ready, but she’ll come to you when it is. You walk her back to her hideout, and when you both reach the front entrance she surprises you by pulling you in close, planting a chaste kiss on your lips. One that you can’t bring yourself to resist, if but for a moment.

And then, just like that, you part. You walk back to the Temple feeling light from seeing her again, and combined with the endorphins rush from the exercise, you enter your home and greet your family in Christ feeling very good. Peaceful. Even as dark thoughts about this new threat beginning to plague the underhive relentlessly push into your mind.

Still, you have a week or so before you truly have to face it in earnest, and that gives you some time to steel yourself for the trials that lay ahead. For they are many, of this you are certain. But still…

You have good people to face it with.

Since the training session for the day is already complete, you figure you may as well check up on the boy, Kieran. As far as you can tell he’s kept to himself, not that your people haven’t tried being friendly with him. You suppose that he’s still shaken and recovering from whatever it was that was eating at him when he attacked you. At the very least, you want to make sure that he knows you hold no ill will towards him, and that he shouldn’t wallow in guilt. So when you walk through the front gate of your Temple, you ask Andrew if he knows where the boy is.

He nods, and motions for you to follow him up the stairs and to the second floor of the factory. As you walk, you’re suddenly struck by just how similar Andrew and Kieran are. They’re both rather young, rather quiet, and seemingly haunted by some kind of internal pain that weighs on them heavily. At least Andrew seems to have cheered up immensely since when you first found him in that drainage pipe right outside the market. He's a hard worker, and always willing to lend a helping hand to the congregation, and while he can’t speak or write, he always has a warm smile ready for any friendly face.

You’re rather proud of him, to be honest. Despite the fact, you now realize, that you can’t be much older than him. You’re only, what… 19? 20? Still, he seems to look up to you almost as a… Father figure, or a big brother.

You hope you can be the same kind of support for young Kieran.

Andrew leads you to the makeshift washing room in the old office, and you see Kieran hard at work cleaning yesterday's laundry. He looks up as you and Andrew walk in, and for a moment you make eye contact. Then he quickly looks away, trying to focus on his work. Andrew pats you on the back and then walks off, leaving you and the boy alone.

“How are you holding up, Kieran? Need a hand?” You offer, to which he mumbles “Fine. I’m fine.” As he starts to scrub harder. “Are you sure? Do you like it here? The people?”

“It’s… Fine.” He mutters. Hmmm… You can tell when somebody's trying to shut you out, and normally if somebody wanted to be left alone, you’d leave them alone. But… You can also tell when somebody is bottling something up, and you know that doing that can only lead to an explosive outburst when it all gets to be too much. But how can you get through to the kid?

Sighing, you kneel down to his level. Intertwining your fingers between your knees as you squat, you look him in the eyes for a moment. “Then why do you close yourself off from us, Kieran?” He looks surprised for a moment, that you would be so direct, and then he says “I-I’m… Not. I’m just… Trying not to get in the way.” You nod and smile slightly as you say “You’ve done everything but. Ever since you got here, you’ve been a helping hand whenever it was needed. But you won’t let any of us in, past your guard.”

He doesn’t respond as he begins to scrub harder at the washboard, the scraping sound punctuating the silence. ksh ksh ksh ksh... “Your journey before we met has clearly been a harsh one, and even now I can tell it weighs heavily on you. I am happy to lend an ear, for your sake and mine, if you would only tell me what troubles you.”

Finally the boy stops his work, pulling the washboard out of the tub and gently laying it on the ground. He looks you in the eye again as he says, very quietly “Okay…”

And so the boy talks, at first hesitantly, stopping and then starting back up frequently, but as he gets further into his life story, his hesitance dissipates and before long he is talking rapidly, the words spilling out of him almost as if they’re trying to force themselves out of his mouth, and his mind.

He had always been an odd one, apparently. But it was on his 13th birthday when charming oddity quickly gave way to terrifying insanity. Visions and obtrusive, paranoid thoughts plagued his mind both day and night, and even his dreams were no respite for him, as they would frequently get so terrifying that he would wake in the middle of night, screaming and drenched in cold sweat. It got too much for his mother to bear, and she finally told him that he was on his own. That he had to leave.

From there it only got worse, as life in the underhive on his own was very rough. Almost unbearably so. Coupled with his weakening sanity, he soon found that he had no friends or family to rely on, and those who he did meet would shun him quickly after finding out just how disturbed the boy was. Somehow, he managed to survive for a year or so in this miserable state, living rough in the underhive, when his dreams began to take a turn for the worse.

And oddly enough, it was you that he dreamed of.

He would see you spreading lies to your congregation, a horde of thirsting monsters screaming and fighting and acting mad as your sermons became more and more deranged. He would see you skulking out into the night, snatching babes from their beds and bringing them back to your charnel house to be turned into more ravenous monsters. These awful dreams haunted him day and night, and when he finally saw you in person, he knew he only had one choice: kill the false prophet and put an end to his evil madness.
>>
He opens his mouth to keep talking, when finally, he finds he has no more words. The boy looks… Deflated, by the end of his story, almost as if keeping the words in was the only thing that propped him up. But you can also tell that he is relieved. Deeply relieved. You thank him for his honesty, and then tell him to go rest, and silently, he walks out of the washing room, looking very small. You take over for his work and over the next hour you scrub and scrub and scrub until the last piece of laundry is clean, and then you hang it up to dry.

That night in the barracks, you fall asleep feeling rather at peace. You don’t dream, and in the morning, you feel clean and refreshed.

For the next couple of days, you participate in the training drills, and while it hasn’t been enough time for your body to improve in any noticeable way, you still feel stronger with each day that you participate. And you think you can see your congregation working harder at it, throwing themselves at the drills with a new zeal, which in turn pushes you to work harder at it as well. By the end of the week, you feel much more comfortable at both exercise and combat, and you think you’re a little tougher for it!

>For continued practice and success at the training, you now have a +10 to all rolls involving combat!

You also think that your talk with Kieran helped him, at least a little, as you see him now laughing and conversing a lot more freely with the rest of your congregation, and towards the end of the week, you also see him participating in the training regimen.

>Kieran has upgraded from church member to church faithful, deepening his resolve and faith in you and God

On Sunday morning, you wake up feeling very sore, and yet, very good. Your mind and body is ready and willing for whatever may come, and whatever you choose to do.

>You have 6 church zealots, 1 church faithful, 12 units of metal scrap and 13 units of lumber, a Pilgrim's Temple, 1 and a half months of food left and 15 Thrones

>Go out to the market to hold your weekly sermon. You’ve gained a bit of a reputation since you’ve started this journey, and not at all a bad one. You think the people at the market will at least tolerate you while you preach, and it would be good to spread the message a bit more openly.

>Go and meet with Marella. Her tracking device should be finished by now, and you want to see her again besides. And, you think, the sooner this kidnapping situation is resolved the better.

>Continue your acts of charity. Hopefully the people you’ve worked with last time are still around, and you think that you’ve made enough progress as it is to get some new converts, something you’ll desperately need in the coming days.

We need to deal with the serial killer.
Kieran probably was a latent psyker being manipulated by a daemon. I wonder if we just exorcised him, or cut off his visions.

But wait a minute, if all we've known is the Imperial Ecclesiarchy, how does Kvar go about explaining Christ? Oh lord, is Christ a shard of the Emperor?
>>
>>5531816
Kvar views the Ecclesiarchy and the Emperor as having essentially always been false, a lie peddled by hucksters to suit their own ends. And with the Holy Bible providing both the set up and pay off to Christianity as a concept, he doesn't need to do a lot of doublethink to accept it wholly as the truth and dismiss the Imperial Cult as a complete fabrication.

At least that's how I view how he views it. Although weirdly enough, I haven't given it that much thought until now to be honest.

You consider going out to the market to preach to the public. It is Sunday after all. But the disappearances seem like a more pressing situation. The sooner that’s resolved, the better. And so you set out in the morning to meet with Marella. Her tracking device should be complete by now. After a short walk, you turn up to the front door of the Jags hideout, and after a brisk conversation, Ace invites you inside. It looks about how you’d expect a ganger hideout to look: Messy. Weapons, Thrones and clothes strewn every which way inside the old abandoned factory, amid a few pieces of worn down furniture. Ace leads you through it to what must be their meeting room, and you come to find Marella seated around a large table with a couple of her lackeys, one young girl in particular fiddling with several mechanical and electrical parts next to her.

“Oi! Kvar! ‘Bout bloody time you showed up.” Marella waves you over to the seat across from her, and as you sit she introduces you to the young techie next to her. “This is Ginny, lass is a right whiz with the tech. Ginny, go ahead and show the holyman how your gadget works.” Nodding, the girl looks to you as she lifts up two separate gizmos, nodding towards the blinking one in her left hand emitting a steady, soft beeping noise. “This thing is the transceiver, and the closer we are to the transmitter, the quicker the pings come in.” she says softly in a slightly nasally voice. She then nods to the other gadget, saying “This ‘eres the vox caster, which transmits a radio signal two ways between us right ‘ere,” she says as she points back out the way you came, “to our lads lying in wait at the trap. Now’s all we’s gotta do is wait for the local snatchers to come by and try and grab our flake addicted pal, and that’s when the boys vox’s back to us that they’ve made contact, we come a’runnin’ and then we knock em flat, pow!”

Grinning, Marella turns to you as she says “Aye, and the best part is: even if they manage to get away with the junkie, he’s still got the transmitter planted on em, so we’ll know where they’re ‘eaded either way. Not a bad plan, eh, preacherman?”

You agree. Not bad. Not bad at all… Now you suppose all you have to do is wait for them to take the bait. Settling in, you talk with Marella and her Jags for a while, anxiously waiting for her guys to vox in that they’ve taken the bait…

>SOME TIME LATER…
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i47XXTjSYck&list=PLWpYpml50qkrj5jdj_4QdzZ_9hmw1kJCD&index=11

You and Marella are in the middle of debating the finer differences between algae wine and algae beer, when suddenly the vox caster crackles to life, as a voice comes through, drenched in a sea of static. “They’re here. Looks like… Three of em. They’re takin’ the bait…”

A sudden hush descends over the room, as Marella nods to you and you all rise up, ready to dash to the nearby ambush spot, when you the vox caster comes alive again, the unmistakable sound of stubber fire coming through as a very strained voices comes through, much louder than before “Bloody hell! T-they spotted us!”

“HURRY!” Roars Marella, as you all quickly gather your weapons and then rush out of the building, at first with the staccato sound of stubber fire coming from the vox, and then, the sound of gunfire coming from very nearby. As you all sprint to the shootout, you hear screams and groans of pain as the Jags who were waiting at the ambush get hit, and then an all consuming screech of static bursts through the vox, before suddenly cutting to silence. You notice that you can no longer hear the stubber shots down the hall either, and as you all run up, the only sound punctuating the silence is the steady beep beep beep of the transceiver.

When you finally come upon it, your heart sinks as you take in the scene. Four of the Jags lay dead on the ground, riddled with bullet wounds. The flake addict, you notice, is nowhere to be seen, but you still hear the rapid beeping of the transceiver. “Shit…” Ginny says as she kneels down, picking up a blinking electronic gadget, causing the transceivers beeping to get very rapid. “They found the bloody transmitter…”

“FUCK!” screams Marella, as she searches every inch of the room for the mysterious kidnappers. “They FUCKING played us! Like we’re a bunch of bloody AMATEURS! FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK!”

You keep your distance from her as you approach one of the fallen Jags, and try as you might to use the Mercy of Christ, you can’t heal him. You’re too late.

You’re just too fucking late.

Sorry if it seems unfair anon, but when you failed the ambush roll I had to make a couple rolls for the resulting combat between the Jags and the Kidnappers, which the Jags unfortunately lost. Then I made a roll to see if they would find the hidden transmitter, which they did. Don't worry though, you'll have plenty more opportunities to take a run at the kidnappers, and there's nothing stopping you from returning to the scene of the shootout to see if they left anything behind once control is returned to Kvar.

One psyker cultist is worth a thousand baseline cultists. Once you have a psyker thats when shit starts to get real. And based on his age and what he described we are looking at anywhere from an iota to an epsilon and based on his age combined with the severity of those visions I would say he is between an eta and a zeta. Meaning our boy is not just some white bread sandwich for big E but is potentially on the level where if the silent sisters find him he may end up trained as an inquisitorial agent. Psyker levels can be trained and the get stronger as the user ages. So, that crit and subsequent high recruitment roll is enough to give our baby cult some real weight. This means our boy is somewhere between the .000035% and .000005% of humanity depending on his level. As for my theory on what that crit means I think we pulled a legit miracle and reset his corruption meter so to speak, meaning we just gave him more room to grow as a psyker since you only really stop growing as a psyker when you die or your corruption meter causes you to go insane and start doing really dumb shit that gets you killed.

Hey everyone, just posting to let you all know that I am not dead and neither is the quest. A very close family member of mine tried to kill themselves recently by overdosing on Xanax, and in between taking care of them while they came down off it, planning on where to send them to recover their body and their mental health, and the sheer stress of the whole awful situation, I've had no time or motivation to write updates.

However, the whole situation seems to have mostly settled down, they're being taken care of and I'm personally beginning to recover from the stress of it, I've decided that the quest will continue in the evening of Saturday, tomorrow. So basically, thanks for the consistent support and well wishes from all of you, and apologies for disappearing once again without much warning. God willing, Kvar's journey is nowhere near the end.
