The year is 2170. most of earth is either uninhabitable, or only habitable enough to keep the people on it clinging to some form of hope. many of the countries across earth have begun crubling apart, or just moved out into space. no one wants to live here. yet most people are born there.

the only people lucky enough to not be born on earth, being people born on space habitats and asteroid belt mini colonies. squalid places in of themselves, if you aren't the high elite.

technology is constantly speeding along, paradise is promised around every corner, but never actually delivered by the powers above.

but, near a distant, very faint light in the sky named Alpha Centauri A, you'll find a gas giant named Polyphemus. with a very special moon, one of legend, a paradise like old earth, an untamed wilderness of sentience and malice. whispers of the very planet itself being the enemy. the paradise promised by the top brass finally realized, yet resisting with every ounce of atmosphere it has against humanity. the very air hellbent on killing you.

and then there's you, you who are to meet Pandora herself, face to face. Or rather, you are going to meet her...very soon

For this story, is one told for you. By you. This is your life from now on. Welcome to Pandora.

(continued in character creation)
>>
Existence...slimy, wet, a thousand feelings assaulting you in every moment. your muscles aching like that of a rope having been strung to it's very limits, you try to move, but in doing so only cause the pain to intensify. so, unable to move, you try to make sense of the world around you, and the feelings approaching your consciousness.

noises, of others, it's wet and slimy, yet warm and somewhat comfortable. you feel as if you could lie here forever...almost as if you already have. the darkness of your still closed eyes being almost oppressive as the very walls of your current cage seems to jolt. in doing so, you feel a light shine onto your face, a stark reminder of the fact that this moment has to stop, and it seemingly has chosen to do so abruptly.

opening your eyes...you are greeted with:

>a medical strobe light, standard use for cryo sleep checkup (Beachhead colonist start)

>warm sunlight, and the face of a clan member (navi Omatikaya start)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

QM note here, I'll give both starts a very thorough explanation once its been locked in, since scene setting wise it's quite important. so i'm gonna keep this choice up until tomorrow in like, 10 hours. hope you guy's liked the intro otherwise :)

...The strong, incandescent light from what is likely a routine checkup, the memory of the previous 3 times it happened during your trip coming back to haunt you like a thorn in the back of your neck. The machine above you in your cryo casket checking you for signs of life. The movements of your eye lids and general head movement due to the annoyance being more than enough to satisfy the machine simple intelligence. all of the assaulting sensations stopping making you almost relax, thinking you are just going to go back to sleep again until either you get there, to pandora, or the higher ups decide they wanna do another routine check.

Yet your Cryopod suddenly begins moving, the stretcher like surface they strapped you onto moving back out, your (un)comfortable bed carrying you out into the large space in which they use to carry Cryosleepers. rows and rows of people just as suddenly jolted out of their machine shells into vulnerable cold air around you. the shadow of a person, likely a nurse appearing above your head, checking the sensor reading on your previously used cryopod.

The nurse began talking out loud, likely talking to others on the ship about condition of the crew. The words being said currently sounding like absolute gibberish to your still acclimating cranium.

"....still has functional neural responses, physical condition seemingly having undergone only minor decay over cryosleep period. welcome to the waking world" the doctor checking up on you said, finishing her sentence with a nod towards the fact that, you are currently staring at her mouth open like an angel had appeared, your body in the process of trying to breathe again. your mouth open like a fish out of water.

finally after getting motor control back and taking the deepest gasp of air you've ever done in your entire life. you begin removing yourself form your restraints. The flimsy straps around you being more so there to stop you rag-dolling within your coffin during the flight than to actually do any form of restraining of your person. during the process of freeing yourself, you look down, and see that your company appointed dog-tag is floating in front of you, the inscription reading:

>frank eisenhorn, field engineer.

>amos nielsen, xenobiologist.

>harper clementine, logistics officer.

>atlas du-bois, psychologist.

swatting the dog-tag away, you look further down onto yourself, seeing the body of a:

...a guy, the good old body you remember, the only thing noticeable being your bionic leg that you got at the age of 17 as a replacement after the incident with your leg during a scavenging expedition that you and some friends went on together to look around some of the older ruins within southern England, the wastes there still having had some treasures left behind whispered promises into you and you're friend's ears enough to make the lot of you reckless enough to forget why those ruins were abandoned to begin with.

the leg having to have been sawn off by Michael after a rock crushed your foot, the pain being immeasurable and your wounds grievous causing the expedition to quickly return home, where your parents were both crying and screaming at you for being such a stupid kid. to get yourself into such danger. and honestly? they were spot on. though, it did give you you're fascination with machinery, the urge to always tinker with your foot, and the thought of if it ever broke and you couldn't pay causing you to raid every online forum possible for any scrap of knowledge on the topic of engineering. a lifesaver really, since it got you the skills required to eventually join the RDA.

you could suddenly hear a loud voice being played over the intercom, the voice of a guy, likely in his 30's being blown into your still adjusting ears. the man talking to no one in particular.

"everyone, get ready for going planetside, anyone not at the shuttles within the next 2 hours will need to wait until the next shuttle transit, thank you for your cooperation"

unbuckling your restraints, you quickly begin pulling yourself away from your cryo pod, floating away from it and towards what seems to be a large mass of lockers. several names coming to mind such as du-bois and nielsen, until you finally find your own locker.

"eisenhorn, beautiful" you softly say to yourself as you open up the locker, seeing the contents of it you smile. a bag of seed pouches from your mother, a bag of sunflower seeds and her own favorite plant, the northern bluebell, or at least the seeds which were preserved from before the plant went extinct in the wild. a photo of you, her, your dad Connor and your older sister Sarah. a ring with the words "paradise" written on it made from silver with a small, tiny clump of unrefined Unobtainium locked within a sapphire as the parting gift from your sister, your fathers old Ruger-57 which he got from his father, and which he got from his father before that. it's a workhorse through and through, legacy gun in terms of technology, but it's beautiful in it's own way, and a 10 terrabyte portable music player, just in case the guy's up top forgot to bring some culture with them on the way.

looking over everything, you grab a hold of the plastic bag hanging at the back of the locker, and put all of your belongings in it. looking around, you begin pulling yourself further towards the clothing area. people are buzzing to and fro as people are either puking into bags from the cryo sleep, putting clothes on as to not look like they were just born seconds beforehand, treating the people currently vomiting or moving the bodies of 2 people who didn't survive the cryosleep. "poor sods at least died in their sleep" you think, having memories of the pollution zones back home and the many people having been riddled with life changing disabilities due to the very chemicals dumped out there to make life generally more tolerable within the cities.

putting clothes on in zero g is a weird experience, it's like tying a rope, but instead of doing it with your hands, you are the rope. especially when parts of your clothing almost seemed to have been made with being in gravity in mind. your annoyance at the stupidity of R&D quickly vanishes after having put your clothes on, as you are moved into the loading area where you'll step out onto the Valkyrie shuttle once the signal is given.

....waiting there, you see many people floating around you, men and women each with their own stories and reason for being here. you look around and see what looks like a marine currently inhaling a whiff of nicotine, his vaporizer having been fashioned in the design of an old pipe. you see a older lady in her 40's, talking to a guy about how the current situation is on the ground, you getting the general impression that she is having a generally one sided conversation, and you see a younger man in his 20's currently looking through a notebook, drawing something you can't really get the impression of at a glance.

your musings come to an end, as the lights in the room you are in turn green, and the shuttle door opens. a marine crawling out and saying "welcome to Pandora ladies and gentlemen, form here on, you are now part of the first colony. hope you'll enjoy your stay with us" as he flashes a predatory grin.

you audibility gulp. this is going to be rough, isn't it.

having gotten into the valkyrie wasnt that bad, you tell yourself as you and the rest of the people from the hangar begin fastening your harnesses. the holographic screens above you showing an image of both a person...and a navi, fastening their harnesses. odd you think, but otherwise just follow the instructions, the big marine from before going by each of you one by one and checking your harnesses are fastened correctly. him giving an affirmative pat on your shoulder after having tested your harness.

after he finished his inspection, he went back towards the cockpit area, your thoughts almost able to go back to musing about your situation or memories of home until a sudden lurch in your body happened, the valkyrie de-attaching itself from the space ship causing even those who hadn't felt sick after cryo, to feel their stomachs try to remove the leftover water within itself. every sensation being much worse than what you remembered from the trip up to the space ship.

a few minutes afterwards, when your stomach otherwise finally choose to cooperate with you, you feel the beginning of your decent towards the planet. the telltale feeling of your entire form being pressed into the back of the aircraft as the very walls sorrunding you begin moving by the force of the engines. the roar of the entire valkyrie trying to fight against itself to stay together despite all of the forces acting on it. your head get's tingley and fuzzy as the sudden flood of blood to your head from the thrust frontally downwards (from the aircraft's perspective) causing your entire circulatory system to have a seizure.

you can hear the distinct "thump" as you begin hitting thicker parts of the atmosphere, the sound of the aircraft's re-entry being so loud it can be heard through the entire shuttle, making everyone in the room with you look around in semi-panic nervousness. the marine sitting in the middle being as calm as if he was having afternoon tea being the only thing keeping you from beginning to question this entire situation. the marine in question looking down at his watch, before he begins yelling out "everyone, i want you to grab the masks under your seat, from now on these masks must be worn at any occation while outside any form of enviromentally sealed building, they are your lifeline, they are your guardian angel now. you'll only have 20 seconds of consciousness without using it, so make sure to treat it well" before he himself pulls out a mask from underneath his seat, taking his sweet as time to put it on. likely as a way to show everyone else how it's done without loosing anybody. taking your mask on, you enable the airtight seal, and breathe in. the air feels to some degree...less filtered than on the spaceship, but you're sure that's just you having placebo effect somehow, at least you hope so.

a few minutes afterwards, you feel the valkyrie slowing down mid air, it's decent having finally reached close to the landing point. the floors underneath you almost seem to scream as you can hear what seem to be landing gears extending out of the carrier. the plane landing with a thud that makes everybody in their seat momentarily feel weightless again, until the weaker gravity of the planet takes it's hold of you and the others again, it's force like shackles.

the marine stands up out of his seat, and walk over towards a pannel at the far end of the valkyrie's hanger, does a few quick hand gestures, and lo and behold, the hanger door opens wide, the sunlight shining in through almost blinding you as the red sunset seems to give an almost warm welcome. "welcome to pandora" you think to yourself, the moment seemingly almost magical as you and the other people in the hanger look out onto the sky visible through the hanger door's, the clear skies seemingly almost unnatural with how few dark clouds there are.

untying your harness, you and the others begin making your way out of the hanger. the sky being almost clear of clouds, the landing pad you are on teeming with people as what seems to be massive skeletons of what you assume is going to be buildings towering over in the near distance. walls covering the horizon in which ever way you looked. it was almost like the earth you knew already, but with so much more...life to it. you felt it, you had definitely made the right decision coming here.

in front of the ramp leading down from the hangar, was another marine, one you hadn't met before. he gestured all of us to come over so you and the others did.

"welcome, ladies and gentlemen to bridgehead. this will from now on be your new home. you will live over in block number 7y, with the room corresponding to the number you'll have to pick here with me" he said as he pulled out a hat. a very nice hat, seemingly an old flat cap. he make everyone go and pick out a number individually, and you got...11, well you certainly don't have anything against that room as of yet, so you just shrug your shoulders and move on. he then gestures for everyone to listen, and says.

"you will all meet me at the command center tomorrow at 12:00, is that understood?"

"yes sir!" everyone, including you yell.

so, that leaves you alot of time on your hands. what will you do until you need to meet with him tomorrow?

"Should probably drop my things off first" You think to yourself, holding your bag of gifts. The bag seemingly weighting much less than it should, until you remember this planets lower gravity affects not just you, but the things around you as well. Walking towards the direction of your new housing area, you walk by possibly tens of people, if not at least a hundred people working on the different construction projects. Many of the people having taken on the role of directors of the large construction robots crawling around the build sites. Houses in partial states of finalization all around you, the road you've been following becoming more and more orderly and finished as you approach what seems to be a large hab-building.

Walking inside after having gotten through the airlock, you find yourself in a small grassy area with cobblestone paving in the middle of what seems to be the bottom layer of the building, the apartments surrounding the central meeting area, flanking you on all sides like the old mega city apartments of old earth. the roof being made of a hexagonal glass patterning with what seems to be smaller lights situated in between the glass panels, acting as a possible emergency light or night light. in the middle of the large room is a stairwell and an elevator, the stairway winding around the elevator like a snake as it connects to several concrete floors shooting out from each apartment layer.

Looking down at your slip of paper, you see the number "11" on it, looking around you see each layer of the building is segmented into 10 apartment's, making your room the first room on the second level. seems simple enough.

Walking up the stairs, you check around the apartments on the second level, until you find apartment 11, your new house. Opening up the door with your company ID tag, the butterflies in your stomach bloom as the house itself seems more than what you would have wished for. A large bedroom, with nightstand, desk land and even a charging station. Kitchen connected to a request network so you can get whatever you need "within half an hour" as the label on it says, likely too good to be true time wise, but you still appreciate it a lot. Your own personal shower, with small stand for different soaps to stand on within it. A small storage area, and even a couch in the main room of the apartment.

Memories of your shitty small apartment comes to mind, trying to live in a single room at the age of 19 while studying at the RDA sponsored engineering school still haunts you. Memories of the small house you and your family lived in which you also visited whenever you got small breaks from school causing you to almost laugh as the stillness of the your new apartment almost seems unnatural.

looking over the map of the apartment block within the apartment itself, it also points towards three other areas to check out:
>>
>Local repairshop
It says "this is where you get your gun fixed, suit sealed, fingers fiddling and your plans approved. Come here whenever you're on break or something of yours breaks!" on the small pamphlet. Corny, but creative enough.

>Lounge area
It advertises this as a place to come and meet new people, get a cup of coffee and breakfast or just sit and watch the aquariums of old earth fishes and new Pandora fishes live just meters from each other. In separate water tanks of course.

>Library
You're surprised to read that name, since libraries went out of fashion on earth decades ago. Only a few legacy libraries having been left as the sole locations for books and historical records to be kept at. But it says here "Want to get some quiet and experience some good old relaxation the way our ancestors did? come down to the local library, you can even loan your books home here!" Wow.

Or, you could:

>Take a shower and then go to the mess hall to eat. You are starving.

>Lie down and sleep, you might've slept for 6 years, but damn it if that sleep wasn't a terrible one.

Your grumbling stomach makes you acutely aware of the fact, that you still haven't actually gotten anything to eat for the last 6 years. The hunger becoming worsening as the day has gone by. Finally consigning yourself to the fate you're stomach has chosen for you, you choose to at least go and take a shower before anything else. The sweat from the cryo chamber still presently clinging to you like an obsessive friend who hasn't understood you just wanna have some peace of mind.

Going out to your bathroom, you let the water start flowing as you take off your clothes and bundle them up on the sink, a few minutes later getting into the shower after having corrected the water temperature. The steam from the shower causing the relatively large bathroom to already have some condensation on the surfaces within.

Having some time to be in the shower usually ends only in you remembering bad things, past memories of mistakes, but for once, your mind can find nothing but chances to think about what your future is going to be like. The ideas thrumming in your head like a War Drum, everything from what you are going to be working with to how you are going to find other people to connect with here in this new place. All of it causing you to almost forget you were even showering. the voice of the shower reminding you to save water making you realize it was already an hour since you stepped into it.

Getting out of the shower, you quickly put on the same clothes as you had on previously, being unable to find a new pair of anything within your room. Checking you had everything on you, you quickly got out the door. getting a leg on before it becomes dark outside, you began walking towards a large building close to the different hab-blocks. The building seeming almost warehouse shaped, you walk in through the front door, and are greeted with a heavenly smell of what seems to be latin American foods, spices assault your senses in all the best ways as you see people buzzing back and fourth. with Tables in states of either full occupation or partial occupation. Walking up to the counter, you scan your dog tag and are presented with different options for meals, with a starter recommendation of a burrito with authentic salsa cream as it was made for newcomers with weaker stomachs. Taking it as is likely the best idea right now, you grab a plate and give it to the service robot at the kitchen counter. the service robot coming back with the plate a minute later with it being steaming hot.

Holding the trey, you scan your surroundings and look out for which table you should sit at, choosing the table with:

>Familiar faces
Seems alot of the same people that were within your cryo cooler gathered up at table 4, probably easier to talk to people with some of the same experiences as you.

>Unfamiliar faces
A table half filled with different military and civilian personnel sitting and enjoying their free time, might be a good way to get started with knowing what's going on.

Sitting down at the table with familar faces, you find a spot right next to a woman in her 30's. opposite to you is a guy who seems to be in his 20's with confidence radiating from his mere presense. Several others look your way before continuing their own discussion.

"Hello there sugar" says the older woman, her southern American accent coming through thick. "How you coming along? gotten acclimated yet? i haven't" She says, eating what looks to be some form of Tapas. A mixture of different Sausages and breads on her plate together with what looks to be different cheese's.

"Doing pretty well for myself. Got my things at my new room. the rooms we are walking around have fresher than that back home. seems pretty sweet as of yet" You said, finishing by taking a bite of the Burrito. The synth meat being the same as on earth. How disappointing.

"Well, aint that the truth" The guy across from you say, still with a mouthful of minced meat pie. "Whichever dipshits allowed us to get on board instead of him or herself really missed out on all of this. Hope this sheila of a rock will not fight too much, might otherwise have to delay the other peoples tickets" He says, off wiping his mouth with what looks like a blue handkerchief. "Names Noah by the by" He finished with a cheeky smile.

The dark skinned woman in her 30's looks at Noah, before rolling her eyes and saying "Yeah, i got some folks back at home that id rather didn't get the shaft when the lottery is drawn. Through i don't think id put it...like that" she said, taking another bite of sausage. "Name's Kiara, Kiara Martínez" she said finishing off her flatbread.

"And what are you guy's specialty in all of this?" you ask, Kiara jumping on the opportunity, starting to talk before Noah could even get a single word in. "I am a diplomatic relations consultant. Even if the relationship of the Navi and our human colony are shaky at best, i'll still try my darnedest to see these...simplistic peoples into getting a new life in our soon to be mutually coexistent society" she said with a sudden vigor you didn't expect. A few seconds later Noah joining in.

"Me? i'm the industrial logistics planner, got my knees deep in any situation where there needs to be large equipment set up. I especially cobber with the guy's planning new dig sites for Unobtainium. That shit is heaps of work, but it's gotta be done by somebody" he says, finishing off his meat pie.

"You good at anything?" he asks, looking expectantly at you. Even if you were someone with a large skill set, you don't personally see yourself as someone too important, so in answering you try to be modest. "I am a field engineer, if anything breaks while away from the engineering department, come to me. be it a gun or your arm" you finish off as you also taking the last bite of your burrito. the saddening truth that you are out of burrito becoming a reality in front of your eyes.

>>
After having sat quietly for a few minutes in silence, listening to the conversations of the others, Kiara speaks up, her voice tired yet chirpy. "Well boys, im sorry to leave so soon, but i've been DYING to get some good sleep, and im not gonna get back to my apartment only to wake up 4 hours later." She said as she began rising from her seat, grabbing a hold of her jacket before looking back to the two of you. Saying "goodbye amigos, hope to see you two tomorrow~" as she began walking towards the airlock.

Looking at her walking out of the airlock, Noah whistles before saying "Damn, hope the Sheila doesn't get too involved with the natives. Way too good to go out that way" you ask into why he thinks that would happen, and he quite mellow in his voice, sounding quite serious compared to his normal demeanour, says "Listen, i got a brother who was killed at the Unobtanium Mines, i wasn't exactly on good terms with him. But i didn't get to say goodbye, a real goodbye before he left. And i've heard ever since the ratbag suicide mission they did at the first Unobtanium mines to try and crush the resistance failed, the natives only ever got a bigger thirst for blood. Diplomacy isn't gonna work anymore, not if they shoot first" He says, ending the sentence by rising from his own chair, you following along with him towards the airlock.

"So what, we should just give up?" You ask, your head full of new pictures of Navi in war paints strewn across your brain like stars on a night sky, a shiver going down your back. "Nah, its never that simple" He says, continuing with "I didn't say she is useless. What im saying is that its a shame she might just end up like most of the other diplomats who were here. Dead on arrival" Getting to the airlock, he says "Anyways, it's been nice talking to...wait, you haven't even given me your name. What's your name ya Dag?"

"Frank, Frank Eisenhorn. you can just call me Frank though, Noah" You say. Readying your arm for a handshake, only for Noah to once is hand was in place, move his palm backwards, lock the ends of his fingers with yours, and only then shake your hand up and down. The gesture feeling alien to you until you recognize it as the outback blow handshake.

"Frank, good name. I'd have called you Kevin, but hey, i ain't your dad, at least not yet" He said as he began walking out of the airlock. His path being visibly different than the one you took to get here.

Going outside yourself, you wonder if you should:

>Go on a small walk around the hab blocks, looking at the buildings.

>FInd a tall building, at look up at the stars.

>Go back home to your apartment, and finally get some rest.

also, i wanna ask you guy's something, since this is based off of an already established media, would you have anything against me coming up with additional ideas where i need material for the next part of the story? im going to try and stay as close to what is already established canon, but i also know that it's gonna be limiting to a large degree, and therefor wanna hear what you people think is the border for that. it'll be more so stuff like new locations, more and different types of infantry gear and such. with maybe some of the larger aspects tinkered with the technicality of what james cameron has already shown.

Fan fiction is only supposed to use its source material as a base. It's supposed go wild and explore other possibilities, even if that means it takes place in a different universe with different mechanics.
>>
>>5551324
Yeah that's fine. Alien marines equipment/vehicles seems not too distant on tech/design, perhaps you could take some of it for variety.

I don't know how much media there is around of Avatar for you to use. A few books (the ones explaining/showing the things seen in the movies), one older game that should have a decent amount of weapons/vehicles you probably know already.... and some comics ? Plus the films.
There was a new avatar game coming i think but not anytime soon.

i've come more and more to realize that, while some of the lore that James Cameron wrote is to a degree in depth, basically most of the setting map wise is generally up for me to make as we go along. i know as well there's an avatar game coming out in the near future. but i kind of don't care by this point anymore since i've realized that to do this quest i've needed to make it to a degree into an alternative universe with how little of the generalized information is available compared to the effort put into a few small lore snippets. but i'll use materials from his writings whenever possible.

i'll try, thanks for the tip.

With some energy left in your body, you begin walking around your new "Neighbourhood" The subtle difference between your new home and the old cities of Earth causing you to have this weird feeling of Jamais vu every time you think you are about to experience something, only to end up surprised. The sound of construction having all but halted during the night, only the skittering of the construction robots bringing building materials back and fourth for tomorrows work being present. Contrasting the constant 24/7 teams you were used to. The abundance of people back home having become so cheap to hire that night jobs were nearly as common as day jobs.

The road you were walking on kept on becoming more and more sparse as you walked away from the canteen. The streetlights becoming a commodity as you began leaving the hab blocks behind you. Walking down towards what looks to be a rock quarry section of the base, you see what looks to be some sort of light source head. One which even at a distance thrums with life, unlike the sterile lights of the canteen.

Approaching, you find what looks to be a campfire with a small bundle of firewood next to it, 1 colonist and two Avatars sitting around the campfire with what looks to be a bag of marshmallows next to the Avatars. the human for obvious reasons being unable to participate in the marshmallow roasting.

Approaching, one of the avatars speak, saying "Hey there stranger, what brings you over to our little section of the fence?" Her accent leaning more towards a southern american accent. "Oh, im just looking around, seemed like something interesting was going on over here so i wanted to check it out" You said, finding a nearby rock to lean up against.

"Well, i was just telling Sunny and Jeremiah over here about my adventures over the fence, wanna join us?" The other avatar says, idlily picking out another marshmallow to roast while asking you the question. "Sure thing, don't know alot about the outside yet. Heard it's pretty scary" You said, hearing about the wild life while reading the pamphlet for the for your journey to Pandora leaving you with a sense of respect for the life on the planet. If not for it's beauty, then at least for your fear of it.

"Yeah, it's pretty, and scary" He started out, telling his story not to you in particular, but to everyone present there at the time. "Last time i was outside the fence was a recon mission, the higher ups wanted me to go on a mission to check out a large possible concentration of Unobtanium for a possible new mining site. Was supposed to just plant a scanner and leave. But when i came to the point where i was meant to plant the beacon, there was a large purple tree. It seemed to almost speak to me as i scrambled to place the scanner and leave. Wild life chasing my tail like it was somebodies business i had meddled with" He pulls out what looks to be an e-cigarette, taking a deep puff before sunny started speaking.

(continued)
>>
"And what happened to that scanner huh? i seem to have overheard that it inconveniently stopped working a few minutes after having been set up. What is that about?" She asks, the male avatar groaning with a sound you are almost sure is unable to be made with human vocal cords.

"Doooon't even get started on that. The whole mission is seen from the higher ups as a 'general failure on every part' " He said, making actual air quotations for the last part "So im currently being pressured to find a team able to go back, and get the thing back up and running again" He says, seemingly exhausted of just the prospect of all of the work suddenly to be done.

"You know Mike, you could set it up on the work board. Would probably help fill out some of the job spaces you are gonna need" Jeremiah said, somehow a marshmallow having gotten into his mouth while never having taken his mask off. Wait what?

"That might work for larger teams, but i need a small one. Otherwise thanks for the idea jerry." Mike added, contemplation on his face as a he looks into the fire.

You think to yourself, you want to:

>Speak up and offer yourself up as a possible recruit for the mission.

>Continue sharing tales around the campfire until the sun comes up, starting with a story of your own.

>Go back to bed, to be ready for tomorrow.

"You know, im open for joining up on this mission. I haven't gotten any orders yet, so i assume that, i as of yet haven't been assigned anywhere" You start out, your voice steady and solid. your posture changing from a leaning position to an upright position. Your standing height being equivalent to Mikes current sitting height.

"Well, why?" Mike started out, looking you up and down before he himself stood up. His height dwarfing your current height by more than 1/3'd your total body Mass. "What are your skills, and why should i put my missions integrity, my own life plus whoever is also going with me, in your hands?" He asks with crossed arms. Taking on a much more serious tone compared to his previously relaxed posture.

"Well, i've currently got no assignment, i am a field engineer and that makes me a prime candidate to help you in fixing whatever went wrong with the beacon. I've got no qualms with you or anyone else here in our new work collective, a blank slate. And most of all. i know you are currently on the shitter about what is probably your first and only mission you have been the leader of becoming in your own words a 'general failure on every part'. We both know you are probably gonna be asking for people rather than waiting for them to come to you. So now im offering my services. Do you agree?" You finished your proposal leaning towards the right, Jeremiah and Sunny having gone entirely silent after you two began discussions.

"Hmm, tempting offer, but. I cannot imagine someone would just wanna do that ENTIRELY out of the good will from their heart. You probably want something out of this, right?" Mike finishes with. A nod from you confirming his suspicion. "Damn it. Well i shouldn't have been that surprised...you know what, normally the higher ups give the people within any given operation a extra cut of pay from a mission value pool. If you help me out, how about we cut the payment such that you get 10% on top from my own percentage? i can't hand out too many bonus's, otherwise other people will just ask the same"

You say "Include a possible minor favour in the future and we have a deal" Trying to squeeze the last bit of juice from this lemon. Mike answering with "Hmmm...fine, but it cannot be anything outside of bridgehead, that's a whole mission in of itself, and i can't just go running off because asks me to. Unless it's the higher ups" His answer being ended with a crack of his neck and quick bit of arm movement.

"Well, glad that's settled. Welcome aboard...?" Says Mike, only realizing now that he hasn't even gotten your name before agreeing to the deal. "Frank, Frank Eisenhorn" You answer, shaking his hand which is oversized compared to your own. feeling like a kid with your body size compared to his Olympian height.

ok so progress haven't been as fast as i wish it could've been, but im about to post 1 of the many parts, not because the others are done yet, but because i don't wanna keep you guy's in the dark and show what i have made.

Waking up felt almost surreal, back home the smell of gasoline and smog being what usually forced you out of bed. The air filters in your apartment breaking on a regular basis since you had to buy the cheap ones made in Brazilica. Your previous job never having paid you enough for you to get the 24/7 versions.

Getting out of bed, you looked around your room, feeling like all of it would disappear any moment. The reality of you actually being here, on Pandora still not truly having set in, despite your rugged trip down here. The memories of yesterday feeling like it almost was a dream that you just woke up from.

Washing your face, you feel a bit of the water entering your mouth. Ready to spit it out, you realize before so that the water doesn’t even taste metallic. Putting your mouth under the sinkhead, you take gulp after gulp of water. the taste best being described as tasting…weird, weird in that it doesn’t taste like anything really. Well there is a taste, but it’s not like the flavorings or disinfectants you’ve been used to drinking within your previous campus’s water supply, or the bottled water your family drank back in your childhood house.

Slipping out of the bathroom, you were about to go and grab your clothes from yesterday, right until you realize that the closet on the other side of the room was actually a clothes closet. Opening it up, you found what was not just several racks of clothing, but fresh clothing. Guessing they were likely (and hopefully) put there before you moved in, you begin putting on a pair of comfortable baggy sweatpants, with military spec overalls on the outside. The shirt underneath the straps of your overalls saying “Zeta-Tech” likely some form of advertisement to fund the greater city, not that you are complaining.

Freshened up and ready to go, you put your dog-tag on and attach your facemask to your hip. Taking a last second look around the room, you come to the conclusion that as soon as possible, you are gonna find something to decorate the room with. Because no matter how good the quality of your new living arrangements, it’s still barebones in terms of visuals. Also not really your general style either. But hey, beggars can’t be choosers.

Getting out the door, you see many other people buzzing around. Either talking with others or trying to get somewhere as fast as possible. Feeling like you might be missing something, yu begin looking down at your mini holo-tablet, finding in your schedule that you are supposed to meet up with the others at the main control building for a detailed report on what the current situation is, and an overview of opportunities within the next half an hour. Realizing you might get there late, you begin walking out of the building, the process of putting your mask on within the airlock being the only hindrance on your journey.
(part 1)
>>
Using your holo-tablet as a map, you make your way out of the residential district and into the paramilitary wing of the colony, the massive, looming stature of the main structure feeling almost oppressive compared to the surrounding barracks. The building's opposite side ending in a hangar, almost as if to say the ocean is just as much part of the colony as the ground it is built on.

Approaching the front door entrance, you see a group of people assembling. You notice a bunch of people there having been from the cryo storage unit you were brought here in. Assuming it’s where you are most likely supposed to meet up, you shuffle yourself in together with the rest of the new recruits. Being unable to see Kiara and Noah, you find a spot on the outer edge of the gathering.

After 10 minutes of waiting and exchanging pleasantries with those standing next to you, you see a marine walk in front of your group, look down at his data-pad before yelling “Listen up! From this moment until this tour is done, you are under my supervision. No one walks off while under my watch. Otherwise you will be punished as deemed appropriate by local authorities. Today we will be going over the local departments, where each of you in engineering will be under the jurisdiction of, and as to how you are going to do your job!”
His voice is commanding and hoarse, like an old bull rearing to go despite its age.

Overlooking everyone in the group, he turns around and begins walking towards the door. Calling out to “Follow along!” Making everyone scramble to follow behind him. Getting into the building, your first thought is that everything on the inside seems VERY barricaded. Turrets on most ceilings, hidden alcoves and blast door points all over. The place truly living up to its purpose as an on site bunker in case of native retaliation.

“Welcome to your new workplace, this might not be exactly where your department is, but we are all working within this building to some degree. Move along” He said, walking you and the others down a corridor to the right of the main hall. The colour of the walls changing from blue and metallic white to orange and black, making the halls almost look like a hazard sign.

(part 2)
>>
Coming to an entrance on the left within the orange & black hall, he opens by saying “This is mechanical engineering. This is where you work if you are fixing anything to do with large scale vehicle machinery, small parts manufactured for large vehicle skeletons, missile production, you name it. If it has oil in it, it’s made here” He said, after having walked into the room. Inside. You could see it was full of what seemed to be 3d printers of all different kinds and sizes, all from large scale metal strut manufacturing to smaller skeleton frame parts. People walking back and forth with robot helpers to repair what seemed to be parts of a bulldozer-like machine which had been encased in concrete to protect itself from natives. Arrows sticking out of nearly every surface which didn’t have the protection on it.

Walking to the opposite side of the hall, the marine walks into another room. This one smaller but much more tightly packed with equipment. “This is the fighting utility preparation and storage room, or F-UPS as management likes to call them. This is where engineers take center stage when it comes to fighting” He said, your attention drawn to the room full of weaponry, death served on a silver plate being on full display. Everything from personal mine launchers to armoured skeleton suits to flamethrowers and more. And knowing you are going to tinker with it causing you to feel this sense of childlike joy. Santa came with toy's this year, and he was generous.

The rest of the tour was otherwise unremarkable. The only things catching your attention being the in house medicinal production lab, where you saw more drugs being produced in different varieties than you think even most specialized pharmacies back home had. Likely not all of them being just medicine.

Walking with your group, the marine stops in one of the main command lounges. The large room having many different meeting tables surrounding the middle of the room. There being a large digital notice board going in a circle around a central pillar. “This is where you will be taking on your assignments or posting new ones. From this point on you are allowed to do anything that is needed on this colony, as long as it is part of your assigned task. Need to get to medical and grab a few bottles of something? if your assignment is from someone with medical clearance or from the higher ups, your clearance has been given on their permission. any and all assignments you take are looked over by the person posting it. If you have any plans of your own, you can place your own assignments. Just remember to put something of value in as a trade for other people's time. Because unless they owe you money already, you aren’t going to be getting ANYONE’S help. Understand?”

(part 3)
>>
Sir yes sir!” everyone within your group, including you yelled. Not wanting a possible reprimand from the marine supervising you. His eyes scanning your group before looking slightly satisfied.

“Well that seems to be it then. Ladies and gentlemen, you are now ready to work for the RDA. Get started, and good luck” He said before he began walking off, everyone only breaking formation once the marine had left the room. Many of the different people sitting down to talk about their experience with the tour, or just converse about what they think of the colony as of yet. you being more so being interested in this assignment system.

Walking close to the holographic screen, you see your profile appear in front of you, Many different options presenting themselves. With 3 specific assignments in particular popping out for you in your head.

>Diplomacy at a knife point.
Kiara and a few other diplomats are going to try and get into contact with a remote tribe of Navi within the jungle. It's your job to provide oversight of the mobile Hab they will be living in during the mission. providing weapon maintenance and watching over their sleeping bodies while they try to communicate with the tribals. But who knows? you might get some first hand experience.

>Outback delivery service
Noah is overlooking the transport routes being planned for a nearby Unobtainium mine. But he needs some engineers to help protect the transport vehicles being driven back and fourth, you are to provide the knowledge on how one might do that. Be it offensive or defensive.

>There's unobtainium in dem trees
Mike is desperately looking for people to help him fix his previously failed mission, you've cut a deal with him, so you are gonna likely earn more here. Though it will also only be you, him and a marine, no one else willing to touch that assignment. At least not yet.

>(Write in. what kind of mission would you like to see?)
>>
hoooly fuck that was a long one. hope you guy's enjoyed the generally longer posting style. buuut im likely going to be doing more of the previously above where it's one message one option.

also, i wanna mention. these assignments aren't going to go away if you do one of them, at least unless it says so within the assignment. you can go back and do an assignment which you otherwise might think needs more help with the resources earned in another assignment.

otherwise, im gonna go to bed now. won't likely be able to post tomorrow because of alot of stuff going on, but hey.

okay...i don't know how to approach this anymore. i've been trying to get myself time to write in peace, where im able to collect my thoughts, but i've also got many other things i need to take care of in my life, including supporting 2 friends, upholding my friend group, getting back into the school system, working out my medication again and getting ahold of my life.

i really wanna be able to write on this quest, but i've also realized i probably don't have the actual skill or time to manage this.

i wanna clarify, i don't wanna fluke just suddenly, so i've thought im likely going to say this thread is going to get archived, and i'll return to it when i've gotten more time and control of my life.

im not gonna flake, i like writing this and thinking of the different possible results, but i probably shouldn't try to write a silly little story and take it so serious, that it might otherwise destabilize the new things im trying and the friendships i have.

so, this is where this thread is gonna leave off. im gonna come back, i promise that. so see ya, in the next thread of "the pandora dilemma"
