/qst/ - Quests

You are Sam Pullman. Just over a month ago, you were an ordinary high school student trying to earn a spot in a decent college.

Since then, you've discovered that you're a werewolf and have been conscripted by others of your kind, who call themselves Garou. According to them, you were born to be a warrior of Gaia, chosen by the planet to defend it against the Wyrm, a malicious deity who seeks to bring about the apocalypse. You still find it difficult to believe a lot of what you've been told.

Right now, you are in the middle of raiding a psychiatric institute where patients are being transformed into Fomori, monstrous mutants that serve as soldiers of the Wyrm. This is your Rite of Passage. Should you successfully put an end to the production of Fomori in this hospital, you will earn your freedom and be considered a true Garou.

>Welcome to Rage Across Pennsylvania, a quest based off of Werewolf the Apocalypse, a tabletop game that combines savage shapeshifters, animistic adventures and irresponsible ecoterrorism. While this quest is set in the larger World of Darkness universe, the focus will always remain on the Garou and I reserve the right to deviate from the canon whenever I see fit.

"If he says he can take the pain, he can take it." After you say that to Marley, you turn to Ella. "Patch up Isaiah and put a stop to the bleeding. Once he's ready to move, help him bust the patients out. The rest of us will take care of the enrichment center." The Amish girl shifts from Crinos into her human form with a frown on her face. She's not happy about this.

"I can still fight! We can't split up like this, not now!"

"We have to," you reply as patiently as you can. It's difficult, considering all of the rage that is churning inside of you. "I'm not gonna risk Isaiah's life by throwing him at the enemy when he's been shot full of silver and I know you can still fight, that's why I trust you to protect him if any other assholes come along while you're breaking the cells open. So, can you look after him?"

Neither of the Get are pleased with this outcome. They've both been told that they've been born for combat ever since they Changed and now you're refusing to let them fight. In the end though, you're the leader of this pack. They do what you tell them to, even if they're displeased about it.

>Ella gains 1 Rage. Her Rage is currently 6/10.
>Isaiah gains 1 Rage. His Rage is currently 7/10.

You leave the duffel bag with the Amish duo; it has everything that they will need in order to bust down the cell doors, if they can't find any keys on the corpses. Alex and Marley trail after you as you make your way towards the staircase that you emerged from, ready to descend into the depths of the intensive care unit. As you approach the stairs, you reload your rifle with a fresh magazine, since you don't want to run out of ammunition in the middle of a firefight. The hairless Metis looks at your gun with an uneasy expression.

"Maybe you should get rid of the gun," he suggests. "You're getting pretty pent-up and you're not going to be able to get rid of all that rage by squeezing a trigger. Things might get ugly down there and at this rate, you might end up in a frenzy."

"I appreciate the advice but if I need to take out a target from a distance, I want at least one of us to have a rifle. Isaiah's the only other one who knows how to shoot and he's out of action, so that leaves me."

"We're werewolves, Sam." Marley doesn't seem convinced by your response. "We're the apex predators of Gaia. All you need to do is shift into your war form and take down anything that gets in your way. I appreciate that you were born as one of the herd, but you shouldn't use human tools when fangs and claws are more effective. There's no need to overthink this."

"Are you seriously saying he should go Crinos when he's this close to going apeshit?" Alex glances at the Metis with a bewildered expression. "A single scratch would push him over the edge. It's a fucking terrible idea. Look, Sam... Maybe you should just sit this out with the other two. We can take care of things from here, yeah?"
>>
Perhaps it's due to the connection that you share as packmates or maybe it's because of their heightened senses as Garou, but Alex and Marley are both fully aware of the rage simmering inside of you. Are you going to heed their advice?

>Stick to your guns. Just in case you need to eliminate an adversary from afar, you would rather continue to use the rifle. You'll just have to bottle up your anger.
>Unleash some of your rage on Marley. As an 'apex predator of Gaia,' he can take it. (This will spend 1 Rage [Exert] and require a roll after voting is locked.)
>Shift into your war form, Crinos. You will be at your most effective at this form, though there is still a great risk of frenzying. (This will spend 1 Will [Shapeshift].)
>Shift into your dire form, Hispo. It's not as effective as your war form but you won't have to worry about frenzying at the slightest provocation. (This will spend 1 Will [Shapeshift].)
>Help Ella and Isaiah liberate the patients. Alex is right, you should sit this out. You trust her and Marley to handle the enrichment center on their own.

Hispo is plenty effective of a combat form, and shooting is probably a bit less effective than going monster mode

Backing this.

>>5562596

Hench, do we have the same frenzy risk in homid and Hispo forms? I honestly don't remember the mechanics in the P&P game.
>>
>>5562720
From what I remember of P&P you just spend willpower to quickly transform if you don't want to make a roll and that's it. I just chose that option because it says so, but our options to get our Rage down is to go Frenzy on command once we see all the Fomoris on the lower levels, or spam Exert on each fight.

How I see it, I say the best option is if there's some Big enemy or there so much enemies and have low health, is to tell our pack to run and then Frenzy to make sure we clean the room without targeting them

"Hispo will be enough. Ella, Isaiah, put on the masks. I want no one to see your faces and I want every last patient to get out of here alive. Once you're finished, check up here and make sure that no one's messing with the computers. If more Pentex goons show up and it's too much for you to handle, either make a run for it or regroup with us."

"Got it," Ella replies. Isaiah just lets out a pained grunt as the Amish girl focuses on putting a stop to his bleeding. Next, you turn back to the other two.

"We'll see if we can find some sort of exit down there. Alex, use that Gift of yours and link us up. We have to communicate and coordinate for this, it's important that we keep each other up to date." While you're talking, you make the sling of your rifle as loose as possible. Maybe it can hang from your neck when you shift into the dire form, allowing you to take it with you.

"Are you fucking serious?" Alex is flabbergasted by your suggestion.

"Yeah. You wanted a leader who could call the shots, so that's what I'm doing. Or do you wanna have a 'shitty little powwow' now that we're in the middle of a life-or-death situation?" She cringes a little when you remind her that this was her idea; she was the first person to suggest that the pack should have an alpha. On the other hand, maybe she's just scared of how close you are to frenzying.

"Okay, okay, point taken," Alex replies. "Fuck, all I'm saying is that we're probably gonna end up in another fight and if I bind our minds together like that, we're all gonna have one hand tied behind our backs. Sure, it's a good idea for when we've cleared out that shithole, but let's not handicap ourselves for no good reason."

"She's right," Marley says. Of course he's taking her side. "We won't be able to focus on the battle if we've got each other's thoughts rattling around inside of our heads. You're in charge so we'll still follow your lead, whatever you decide we should do. We're just offering advice, that's all."

>While a character is under the influence of Mind Speak, they suffer a -20 modifier on all rolls.

>In order to qualify for the Uktena, you should seek knowledge before you take action, you should endeavour to learn from the enemy and you should seize the tools of the enemy so that you may come to understand them.

>In order to qualify for the Children of Gaia, you should seek solutions that do not involve violence, you should prevent the loss of innocent life and you should tend to the needs of those who have been wronged by the enemy.
>In order to qualify for the Get of Fenris, you should destroy the enemy whenever you encounter it, you should not act out of fear of violence or adversity and however you choose to destroy the enemy, you should excel.

>Uktena
We passed on speaking with the weaver spiders and having an inside man, but we gathered quite a lot of info before going in using H&H uniforms and guns. We also looted everything
>Glass Walker
We burned the truck when we could have used it, even though there was a risk, we used a lot of guns, downloading thing from the computer and went through a medical meeting with fake information. Depends if they see the mercy killing as failing to avoid harming the innocent. Since we are saving the prisioners, we could argue that we don't know if it's possible. Our teacher never mentioned if it is, and said the opposite. But she has omitted information or told pure propaganda before.
>Silent Striders
We did some risky moves, but we did do thins to mitigate it. We also gathered a lot of information before acting and mercy killed the formori, ending their suffering.
>Children of Gaia
We haven't been unnecessarily violent, but we didn't do it completely peaceful as well. We also mercy killed the formori instead of keeping them alive. Don't even know if this mission would even be possible as a pacifist.
>Get of Fenris
Maybe? We are bringing the fight to the enemy and destroyed those tainted, but we have been way more calm about this then just rushing straight in.
>>
I feel like we've been way too peaceful for get and too bloodthirsty for Gaia. The other 3 we kinda tripped at the finish line.
Glass: use car, guns, cloth to sneak in, but burn the truck, "harm" the women we stole the car from, etc
Striders: we didn't let anyone suffer but we haven't been particularly risk avoiding
Uktena: we did take some of their tools tried to teach guns and driving to our pack although not very successfully. At the same time we skipped a few chances to gather Intel before taking action. Of the first three, this one we probably screwed up most

"Alright." A good leader always know when to defer to the wisdom of his subordinates. You heard Jasper Talks-Fancy say that once. "No Mind Speak. We can save that until after we've cleared the place out." With that out of the way, you shift into Hispo. The black uniform you're wearing is torn apart as you transform into a giant wolf covered in mottled black and brown fur. Your assault rifle hangs from your throat by its sling, almost like a loose collar.

>You spend 1 Will. Your Will is currently 5/10.

Once you have settled on all fours, the other two shift as well. Alex transforms into a towering monster with a glossy black coat, while Marley becomes a hideous abomination with sagging, leathery skin rather than fur. You'll never get used to how ugly the Metis looks in this form.

>Alex spends 1 Will. Her Will is currently 6/10.

You lead the way downstairs, leaving the Amish behind. Even if Isaiah is in a rough state, you trust that Ella will be able to take care of him. Together, they should be able to break the patients out and fend off any potential threats.

You lead the way, bounding down the stairwell while the others follow in your footsteps. You pass the garage and storage level and soon arrive at the second floor beneath it. The staircase opens out into a corridor, with four rooms on either side and a janitorial locker against the far wall. These are the 'patient rooms,' where the Fomori candidates are kept. The third floor looks the same as the second and so does the fourth. At least there's no sign of Pentex's minions on any of them.

The same can't be said for the fifth floor, where the 'enrichment center' can be found. When the stairs come to an end, they open up into a long hallway that ends in double doors. Just in front of that threshold, there's an overturned table that a pair of Hampton & Holt troopers are using for cover. A morbidly obese mutant stands before that makeshift barricade, a corpulent mass of flesh that's covered in blackened buboes and has a toothless void for a mouth.

Halfway down the corridor, three more Fomori stand shoulder to shoulder. Together, they serve as a living barrier that exists solely to keep you away from their gun-toting comrades. The only thing that the three monsters have in common is that they're all decked out in heavy duty riot-gear. One of them has a multitude of muscular tentacles that sprout from gaps in his armour, covered with bony spurs instead of suckers. Another appears to have a gigantic horn instead of a head, a wicked-looking protrusion that wouldn't be out of place on a rhinoceros. The third has a pair of immense eyeless snakes instead of arms, with glittering needles in the place of their teeth.

It looks like they've been ready for you for some time.

"Open fire!" One of the trooper barks the order as soon as he sets his eyes on you. You don't waste any time either; by the time that the bullets start flying, the three of you have already thrown yourselves at the Fomori, all fangs and fury.

We've been relying on human tech a lot actually, and we even tried to help Marley appreciate human civilization.
Besides we've been sparing innocent people and, in general, we are more rational than violent.
I feel Glass Walker is the choice that makes more sense.
>>
Feel like it's between Glass Walkers and Silent Striders. Prefer the latter since it distances us from garou politics. Children of Gaia maybe take us and I feel like unless we fuck up horrendously the Get will take us regardless since we're an ahroun. Uktena seems interesting but I'm not sure we even qualify at this point considering we passed on negotiating with the weaver's brood.

>You, Alex and Marley each spend 1 Rage. Your Rage is currently 7/10, her Rage is currently 1/10 and his Rage is currently 3/10.

If this is the best that the Wyrm has to offer, then he doesn't stand a chance against the might of the Garou.

You throw yourself at the one with snakes for arms and crash into its body with all of the force that you can muster. The monster goes toppling onto its back and with supernatural ease, you slice through its armour and gouge out its belly with your claws. The eyeless serpents shriek and flail about uselessly, overwhelmed by the agony that you inflict on the Fomor.

Alex focuses all of her ire on the one that's festooned with tentacles. Seizing those writhing limbs with her fangs and claws, the black-furred Garou rips the tendrils from the mutant's body one after another, in a savage display of gore and violence. In a matter of seconds, she reduces the creature to a blood-soaked carcass.

The goons try to pepper the three of you with silver throughout your assault, but Marley thwarts their efforts. Grabbing the headless Fomor by its horn and seizing its belt with his other hand, the Metis lifts the abomination in the air and uses it as a living shield. Its body twitches and spasms as bullet after bullet slam into it, penetrating its armour in multiple locations and riddling the monster with holes.

Just when you have dispatched the frontline of Fomori and are ready to advance on the gun-toting troopers, the corpulent monstrosity finally acts. Its distended stomach convulses and a gush of tar erupts from its maw. The sheer quantity of the black ooze defies physics; in less than a second, the obese mutant has produced more than its weight in vomit. Everything in front of it is covered in the viscous substance, and that includes you. It sticks to your fur and slows you down, even as you charge towards the troopers and the rotund Fomor with your packmates at your side.

>You, Alex and Marley each spend 1 Rage. Your Rage is currently 6/10, her Rage is currently 0/10 and his Rage is currently 2/10.

The mutant's vomit is barely an inconvenience. You wade effortlessly through the onslaught of black muck with the other two trailing behind you. If anything, the sludge obfuscates your approach and makes it harder for the troopers to aim at you. You might be a large target in this form, but you move far too quickly and erratically for these goons to hit you. The same can be said for your packmates; they duck and weave through the hail of bullets with alarming grace.

While you duck around the obese mutant, Alex simply ploughs straight through it. Gore and goo spray all over the walls as she annihilates the Fomor without losing any momentum and crashes through that overturned table as though it wasn't even there. One of the goons screams as you catch his arm in your jaws and shake him about like a rag doll, at least until Alex grabs his head in her heads. With a little pressure, she causes his skull to burst like an over-inflated balloon. As for Marley, the Metis descends on the remaining goon and slices him open from neck to navel with a single swipe, carving through the bulletproof vest as though it's paper.

"Hah!" Black-furred Alex lets out a triumphant laugh, though her current form makes her mirth sound like a guttural bark. "Pentex ain't shit!" If the doctor who you interrogated told the truth, you have eliminated every last enemy in the institute, except for one last operator.

>You, Alex and Marley each gain 1 Will. Your Will is currently 6/10, Alex's Will is currently 7/10, Marley's Will is currently 5/10.

"You did well," you snarl in the High Tongue, since you aren't capable of speaking English while you're wearing the shape of a giant wolf. You still don't have a great grasp of the language, but you know the basics. "Use your Gift." A few moments after you growl those words, your mind is assailed by thoughts that are not your own as Alex links the minds of the pack together. It takes a second for you to become accustomed to the strange new stimulation of this sixth sense. Even once you've become accustomed to it, you still feel dizzy and disorientated. It's hard for you to focus on reality when your head is so crowded.

>Alex spends 1 Will. Her Will is currently 6/10.

"I'll never get used to this," you hear Marley mutter in your brain.

"Oh, I'll make sure you will." You almost mistake Alex's smugness for your own. "Ella, Isaiah, you there? Maybe we should've let you come along after all, these Fomori were fucking pushovers."

"We're here," Ella replies. You can feel the presence of Isaiah's mind as well, but his thoughts are muddied by pain and weariness. "Most of these cells are empty. We've broken open a couple of patients but they're in a bad state. I'm keeping an eye on them while Isaiah breaks the others out."
>>
"Good, keep it up. The three of us are going to have a look around down here, see what we can find. We'll keep in touch." Once you've shared that thought with the others, you spend a few moments tearing off the tar that clings to you. You rip off plenty of your fur in the process but thanks to your regeneration, it grows back within seconds. As soon as that's out of the way, you're free to explore.

Before you go through the doorway at the end of the corridor, you explore the other rooms that line the hallway once you've busted open their doors. A couple of them are offices, with desktops identical to the ones up in the lounge. You could crack them open and take their hard drives too, but there's a good chance that they're just connected to the same server. There's also a storage room filled with several steel drums and a few refrigerated tanks, but you're not able to make sense of the code that they're labelled with.

Finally, there's a control and monitoring room. From there, you're able to look through the CCTV cameras throughout the entire institute, including the intensive care unit. A brief glance at the myriad cameras reveals that the entire hospital has been evacuated; the overnight staff have shepherded all of the inpatients into the parking lot. A couple of police cars have already arrived, though it looks like the cops that came in them are standing by. Perhaps they're waiting for backup?

"Pick up the pace, everyone. We don't have much time left." With that in mind, you get to work breaking open the double doors. They're pretty sturdy, but they don't stand a chance against a trio of werewolves. As soon as you've busted open the lock, you step through the threshold and into the enrichment center.

It looks like something out a nightmare, like the fusion of an operating theatre, a desecrated church and a serial killer's basement. The only significant light source is a single naked bulb that hangs in the middle of the room, dimly illuminating the bare concrete floors and walls. Irregular spirals and twisted glyphs have been painted on every surface using blood, sewage, petroleum and other foul-smelling substances. At the far end of the room, there's a metal operating table with all sorts of leather restraints attached to it; it looks more like it's intended for torture rather than surgery. A cart that's laden with all sorts of monitors and unfamiliar devices stands next to the table, though they're all offline right now. It also carries a few tanks full of a faintly glowing fluid that you don't like the look of; the mere sight of the stuff makes your hair stand on end.

But in the very heart of the room, beneath that dangling lightbulb, is a display case that sits on top of a black acrylic pedestal. It contains an ancient jade mask that depicts some sort of demonic face, complete with fangs, tusks and bulging white eyes. If you have to guess, maybe it's Mesoamerican.
>>
>You gain 1 Rage, while Alex and Marley each gain 2 Rage. Your Rage is currently 7/10, her Rage is currently 2/10 and his Rage is currently 4/10.

"This is fucking sick." Even if you didn't have access to her thoughts, Alex's disgust would still be palpable. "What sort of monster does shit like this?" While she's busy gawking at the horror of it all, Marley approaches the plinth to take a closer look at the mask. He doesn't dare touch the display case; though there's no security system attached to it, you can't fault him for being careful.

>Marley spends 1 Will. His Will is currently 4/10.

Suddenly, the Metis staggers away from the ancient relic and bares his teeth at it in a snarl. "This whole place reeks of the Wyrm," he relays to you, "but that thing stinks far more than anything else. It's evil." The Metis pauses for a second as he is struck by an idea. "Alex, peek into the Umbra for a second. Tell us what you see."

"What? Why the fuck should I do that?"

"Humour him," you tell her. When it comes to weird cosmic spirit shit, you trust Marley more than anyone else in your pack. He grew up learning about this stuff, after all. The dark-furred Garou grumbles for a couple of seconds before she gathers her focus and slowly slips into a meditative state. To you, it just looks like she's staring into space. In actuality, she's peering into the spirit world.

>Alex spends 3 Will. Her Will is currently 3/10.
>Alex gains 2 Rage. Her Rage is currently 4/10.

A couple of seconds after she finally slides into a trance, she comes crashing out of it.

"It's a fucking nightmare," she blurts into your minds. "There's so many Wyrm-spirits, there must be fucking dozens of them, all crowded around some twisted-looking altar and worshipping that thing." She jabs an accusatory finger towards the jade mask. "It's gotta be what's drawing all of these spirits to this hospital. But how did it end up so fucking tainted?"

"It could be a fetish," Marley suggests, still eyeing the artefact warily. "Maybe it has a powerful Bane trapped inside of it."
>>
First of all, what should you do about the enrichment center?

>Leave the place as it is. The authorities will be here shortly. You should go before they arrive and let them to discover this hellhole.
>Trash the machinery and the supplies. Ruin everything and make sure that Pentex will have to start this operation from scratch.
>Burn it all down. The flames might spread to other parts of the institute, but it's a quick and sure-fire way to dispose of everything.

Second of all, what should you do about the mask?

>Leave the mask alone. This is way above your pay grade, Harrower didn't mention anything about ancient Mesoamerican artefacts. You should focus on your Rite.
>Destroy the mask. If it's responsible for all of the Banes infesting the hospital's reflection, then it stands to reason that breaking the mask should get rid of them, right?
>Take the mask. You're not going to leave a powerful relic in the clutches of Pentex. You should take it back to the caern, in case anything can be learned from it.

I like our budding love of fire.

We don't know what this is other than the enemy values it. Bring it back to the tribe to purify or destroy.

I remember something Murphy telling about his rite and how he didn't burn it down because it would hurt the jobs of innocents.
Since I want to go Glass Walker, I'm picking this option.
>Take the mask. You're not going to leave a powerful relic in the clutches of Pentex. You should take it back to the caern, in case anything can be learned from it.
Better that professionals destroy this thing.
Just got to send someone ahead to warn the Caern, in case it risks exposing it.

Adding this to my vote at >>5564639. Good thinking!

>>5564632
>>
>>5564656

Backing this. I still think we should consider working to take this site and invert it into a Fomori-cleansing operation or otherwise actively battling Wyrm-influence.

It's not enough to set Pentex back a year, we have to actively set up a competing power structure.

Raze what we can, put our trust in the elders to figure out how to kill this thing properly.

I mean, we're a teenager who hasn't even earned full Garou status yet. That may be ebyond our abilities.

>>5564756
Best bet for that plan to work would be for one of the Glass Walkers affiliated companies to somehow do a takeover of the hospital.
But I have no idea how they would do it
>>
>>5564756

Oh I dont mean that we would personally oversee this, but in-character, we might go back to the caern with this idea and pitch it to the Glass Walkers, and maybe run some missions to help launch the project.

Of course, highly likely that we get shot down, but I think it's in-character to have the idea.
>>

+1

I'm not sure of spliting, specially while carrying a beacon for Banes, which means surely Pentex are going to send the Black Spiral Dancers for this, but it's still a really good choice to at least send someone to warn the elders and send a pack to pick this mask up or meet us half way the Caern

But I seriously doubt they're going to do anything. Remember, this is a Initiation Rite, and even if they see we make our objective of dismantling things up, there's the fact that the Alpha of the Caern and surely our teacher is going to not allow anyone for this matter to help with the mask and see if we can make it.

Once we're near the Caern, at least some hours from it should go first, tell the situation and see what they say, because we have a Fetish with a powerful Bane inside that attracts other Banes. Unless we fight them the Umbra, they're going to follow us, and the BSD are going to use that as a lead to catch us. Once we're out, this is going to be a race against time and make a run to our Caern.

The idea I had was just to warn them that we are bringing it back and ask if it would put the caern in danger in the first place.
It could be seem as asking for help I guess, but I was trying to go for showing concern over the safety of the caern, since this thing attracts banes and may have a powerful one imprisoned inside, so it could end up acting like a trojan horse.

Yeah I get it, it's just that i'm paranoid.ablut running around with the Mask even if it's the best choide to grab it and give it to another more specialized Pack to deal with it

1. The distance from the hospital to the Caern
2. Pentex or Black Spiral Dancers going behind os for the mask
3. If the Caern is already watching us somehow and are preparing things to destroy the mask.

It's like having a chunk of meat in the middle of the ocean near a group of sharks.

Breaking it is the last thing we should do, that's just asking to unleash whatever's trapped in it. We also shouldn't take it straight to the cearn. We don't have to split up, payphones still exist if you look hard enough. Do we know Sheepdog's number?

Should make sure to warn the caern first before we bring it to them though.

>>
>>5565828
>>5565744
But in-character, what motivation would our MC have?
>>
>>5565831
In-Character I could see it happening in a desperate situation and relying on the limited knowledge Sam has on the spirit world. He was told by his teacher than Garou can consume spirits, it's speculated that mask is a fetish possessed by a very powerful spirit that attracts other spirits. Wearing it could lead to Wyrm spirits to be attracted to Sam which he could then consume or he could try to consume the spirit in the mask to gain whatever buff he could from eating them, which would be in a complete FUBAR situation. Another situation in which it could happen is if Sam is forced to wear it while Mom is held hostage since so far he's made it very clear he's willing to go to great length to protect her and keep her as part of his life even when it is ill advised. So if it's between wearing the jade and mom dying and there's no 100% way to safe her I can see Sam doing it.
>>
>>5565844
Well, if such an opportunity crops up organically, we'll see how it goes. I'm not really in favour of hanging onto the mask indefinitely in the hopes of engineering a heel-turn, though.
>>
How Scottish are we? Could always try to purify the spirit and try becoming a White Howler, as impossible as that is, it's just as likely as us willingly become a BSD.

Probably not at all, but I'm sure if we manage to pull that off we become Scottish by default.

"We'll take the mask when we get out of here. The others back at the caern might know how to destroy it safely." Alternatively, Farsight Salazar might be interested in studying this artefact. By giving him the mask, you might earn the favour of the Uktena. "Right now, let's wreck this place. Trash everything, leave nothing that Pentex could use."

Alex doesn't need to be told twice. She smashes the cart full of machinery against the wall, shattering screens and demolishing delicate devices. As for the Metis, he unleashes his fury on the operating table, mangling it until there's nothing left but a heap of ruined metal.

Next, you head to the control room. Just in case the CCTV footage is saved on the machine rather than the servers, you ask Alex to get the hard drive out first. She's not that familiar with computer hardware and requires some instructions from you but as soon as she's fished out the drive, you trash everything else in the room and leave behind a chaotic mess of wires, circuitry, plastic casing and broken furniture everywhere. The offices suffer a similar fate.

It takes a little more time to deal with all of the materials that they've got in storage. Each steel drum seems to contain some sort of disgusting substance, from crude oil to congealed grease to coagulated blood. There's even a couple that are full of human waste. The only way to get rid of the contents of these barrels without flooding this floor is to pour them down the floor drain, one after the other.

"We're done," Ella lets you know through your mental connection. "There's just seven patients. A couple of them are unresponsive and the rest are... They're not well, Sam." You're not surprised. This is a psychiatric hospital after all, the people who are kept here are guaranteed to be mentally ill, especially in this part of the institute.

"Good. We're just finishing up down here. How's Isaiah doing?"

"I'm fine." The Amish boy's thoughts are clouded with pain and frustration, but they're still legible. "I'm up in the staff lounge, making sure that all of the monsters who worked here are dead. No one's touched your computer, by the way." Everyone who worked in this part of the institute played a part in this horrific conspiracy. Death is the least that they deserve.

"But what are we going to do with all of these people? We don't have anywhere to take them and... maybe we should just leave them here. The hospital will look after them, right?" Ella seems a little shaken.

"Fuck that," Alex retorts, "there's nothing to stop them from just starting this shit all over again. Besides, how do you know that Autumn won't just send them to another hellhole where they can be 'enriched?' We should take them to a local shelter or something."
>>
"We just came to this town yesterday," you point out to Alex. "Unless you've been on the lookout for homeless shelters or something, how are we supposed to know where to take them?"

"Not to mention how much attention it would attract," Marley adds. "We should just let them loose. They can serve as a distraction while we shift into Lupus and sneak away."

While the three of you finish up your sabotage, the whole pack uses the mental link to argue over the best course of action. In the end though, your decision is the only one that counts.

First of all, how do you want to handle the patients?

>Leave them to their own devices. Those who want to try to escape can, but you don't want to waste any energy herding the mentally ill.
>Direct them towards the visitor parking lot, where all of the other inpatients and hospital staff have evacuated to right now. The institute can look after them.
>Encourage them to escape and run off into the night. Marley's right, you might be able to take advantage of the chaos that this could cause.
>Tell them to follow you. You're not sure where you can take him, but they're your responsibility now. You need to figure out somewhere safe to take them.

Second of all, how do you want to handle your escape?

>Put on your masks and some spare scrubs, since most of your clothes have been ruined by all of the transforming, then run away.
>Dress up as ICU patients and escape. If you're going to be seen, you want your pack to look like runaway nutjobs rather than masked criminals.
>Shift into Lupus and sneak through the employee parking lot. The Veil will be safe as long as you remain unseen (Everyone will spend 1 Will [Shapeshift].)
>Everyone should shift into Hispo and get out, as fast as they can. It's just a tiny breach of the Veil. (Everyone but you will spend 1 Will [Shapeshift].)

Maybe we can deliver them to the Amish or to a psych institute that isn't a Pentex operation?

>Put on your masks and some spare scrubs, since most of your clothes have been ruined by all of the transforming, then run away.

This makes the most sense to me.
>>
Y'know what? I believe that maybe, thanks to the talk we had with the doctor the day we entered, it could be enough for him to speak up about what happened in the hospital.

But anonymous. Maybe we can call him in a phone (If he gave us one) or even sneak to him if we dress up like a patient. We can tell him to gather a few more trusted nurses and doctors that feels the same way as he, and write letters or maybe record what they experienced in this hospital with some voicechanger to try and stay safe, because if they just saw that for some reason there was this big attack to a hospital and the most sane patiences just speak of what happened, they will surely desqualify everything because "they're crazy already"

This hospital and Pentex needs a huge media backlash and people to talk about their abuse in that aisle of the hospital so there's some huge controversy, maybe Pentex is going to back down and maybe can be run again by some normal human without the influence of Pentex. Or hell, maybe there's some Sons of Gaia organization that has some hospitals in their belt to come up and steal this hospital and start cleansing it.
>>
>>5566653
Pentex controls part of the media, also it risk breaking the veil, so going loud is a bad idea.
I also think that the doc isn't going to work since we passed the chance to turn him into an inside man. So we even have a way to contact him?
>>
Anyway, I think we should save these ideas for when we return to the caern, and make so it's a suggestion to pass along.
It's a job for the clans to clean up for when we return, we don't have the resources or influence to do much ourselves.
But keep discussing and thinking them, because we would have to make a good case of it being worth the effort.

Sadly, there's not much else we can do for them. We can maybe spread some rumours online about this place, tip off the police later... It won't shut Pentex down, but it might make this PARTICUALR facility and these PARTICULAR patients enough of a hassle that they abandon them to the care of regular, non-cultist psychiatric care.

>Marley spends 1 Will. His Will is currently 3/10.

As soon as you're done wrecking the enrichment center and have snatched the artefact, you all shift back to Homid and head back up to the lounge. Most of your pack have ruined their clothes with all of the transforming, with Isaiah being the only one who didn't trash his Hampton & Holt uniform. He's the one who gets to keep an eye on the patients on one of the lower levels, while the rest of you search for clothes to change into. Ella found some hospital gowns intended for the patients and put one on while she was looking after them, but they're not suitable for the outdoors. Instead, you find a box of spare scrubs that the staff kept around that you change into. You, Alex and Marley put on your masks as well, since you don't want your faces to be seen by anyone, not even the people you're rescuing.

While Isaiah is busy changing out of his stolen uniform, you pack away all of the loot in the duffel bag that you brought along. That includes the jade mask and the two hard drives, since the download has finished at this point. You also stash away that assault rifle and a whole bunch of ammunition; you never know if a gun might come in handy. As soon as you've finished your preparations and put an end to your mental communication, your pack herds the patients to the garage.

Ella was right, they're not well. All five of them seem detached from reality in ways that go beyond mental illness, and none of them have been looked after properly. Two of them are even wrapped up in straitjackets. It takes a lot of cajoling and insistence to get through to them, to get them to acknowledge your presence instead of staring into space, gibbering at monsters that aren't there or cringing at the alarm that has been wailing ever since your raid began. With some effort, you eventually get them to follow you of the hospital and into the darkness of the parking lot.

The chill of the night air and the prospect of freedom seems to knock some sense into a few of them, as they break into a run soon after they have been led out of the institute. The others require a little shoving in order to snap them out of the reverie but they stagger after the others in short order, whooping and wailing as they go. You give them a little head start before you start running in the other direction.

Well, you can't really run, thanks to the state that Isaiah is in. The silver that's buried in his thigh and his hip keeps him from moving faster than a hobble. Marley and Ella fall back to support the Amish boy's weight and try to help him along, but the pace is still excruciatingly slow. You need to get the hell out of there, but you can't even move at a jog.

You're almost out of the parking lot and out onto the streets of Tennyson when you hear the bark of gunfire come from somewhere behind you. With each shot, a small cloud of dust and dirt erupts from a patch of asphalt nearby as a bullet misses its mark.
>>
You risk a glance over your shoulder in an attempt to spot the enemy, but there's no one there. The only sign of your assailant is the muzzle flash that you spot by the edge of the institute's rooftop. That's why the troopers by the garage weren't surprised when you arrived; the last goon from Hampton & Holt has been up there all night long, serving as their sentry.

Just when you're about to yell at the others to pick up the pace, Isaiah lets out a piercing cry of agony as he's struck by yet another silver-tipped bullet. The rooftop shooter was aiming at the Amish boy all along, with the intention of finishing off a wounded Garou. He slumps forward and only remains upright thanks to the support of Ella and Marley.

>Isaiah loses 1 Health. His Health is currently 0/3.
>Everyone gains 1 Rage. Your Rage is 8/10, Ella's Rage is 7/10, Alex's Rage is 5/10, Marley's Rage is 5/10 and Isaiah's Rage is 8/10.

"Isaiah's been hit!" A panicked shout from Ella confirms the obvious. In the darkness, you've got no idea where he's been hit or if he's got any chance of survival. Right now, you need to make a difficult decision.

This is probably the least bad option. Isaiah can still make it if the squad can dig out his silver once they're clear of hostile fire.

>Everyone else spends 1 Rage. Ella's Rage is 6/10, Alex's Rage is 4/10 and Marley's Rage is 4/10.

"Pick him up!" As soon as you bark the command, Marley doesn't hesitate. He shoulders the weight of Isaiah and picks up the pace, running ahead with the others while you slow down long enough to rummage around in your bag for that rifle of yours. Thankfully, your pack has created enough distance that the marksman can't reliably hit you, giving you enough time to produce your own gun and return fire while the others run as fast as they can. You keep moving as well, but you can only run so fast when you're trying to shoot at something.

What follows is a fruitless exchange of bullets, as you spray the distant rooftop of the institute with as many bullets as you can muster, in the hope that at least one of them will strike your target. In return, your unseen assailant continues their assault, though their efforts are impeded by your suppressing fire. More clouds of dirt burst from the asphalt as bullets strike the ground around you, until one finally finds its mark.

Agony unlike any pain that you have ever known floods your brain as a silver-tipped round slams into your torso, just above your hip. The presence of that accursed metal makes it feel like there's a fire blazing inside of the wound, burning away at your insides.

>You lose 1 Health. Your Health is currently 2/3.
>You gain 1 Rage. Your Rage is currently 9/10.

Mercifully, you're out of the parking lot and quite some distance down the road at this point. You don't have much further to go before you're able to turn a corner around an apartment block, escaping the marksman's field of vision. The cacophony of gunfire comes to an end, leaving only the distant wailing on that alarm and the sound of approaching sirens. The others have stopped to catch their breath and Marley has set Isaiah down on the ground for the time being.

"How is he?" You try to keep the pain out of your voice, with one hand over your side in an effort to stem the bleeding.

"I can't tell, not in this light," Marley replies, still a little breathless and shaken. "All I know is that he's lost consciousness."

"Shit, what do we do?" Though the mask hides her expression, it sounds like Alex has completely lost all of her earlier confidence. As for Ella, the girl seems frozen with shock, overwhelmed by the entire situation.

You stash your rifle away and lead the others back to the motel as quickly as you're able, hurrying through the streets of Tennyson and doing your best to recall the way. In the heat of the moment and with a mind that's clouded with pain and rage, it's difficult for you to recall the route perfectly, but there's no time for doubt. More than once you have to duck behind cover in order to avoid being seen by passing cars, including an ambulance racing down the road on its way to the institute.

At long last, you manage to carry the unconscious body of Isaiah through the night and back to the motel. You remained unseen throughout your journey, or at the very least unbothered. The masks come off before you set foot on the premises and you rush the unconscious Amish boy into one of your rooms you rented, as fast as you can.

"You should've fucking told us that you were shot too," Alex chides you as she gets to work digging out the silver that's buried in your hip. A few minutes have passed since your arrival and you've all settled down, with Marley examining Isaiah while the foul-mouthed girl tends to your gunshot wound. You're in no state to respond; you're too busy gritting your teeth and trying not to let the pain get to you. One more nasty surprise is all that it would take to make you frenzy, and that's the last thing you need at this stage of the mission.

"This is bad," the Metis murmurs as he surveys the bullet hole in Isaiah's back. Right now, the Amish boy is lying on the bed, covered in a cold sweat and breathing shakily. "It's gone pretty deep. I'm not sure if it hit an organ or not."

"Shit..!" You almost bite your tongue when Alex finally manages to pry the bullet out of you. It still hurts like hell but you feel better knowing that there's no more goddamn silver inside of you. Now when you transform out of your breed form, that wound should hopefully regenerate.

>Most werewolves are not vulnerable to silver in their breed forms. Your breed form is Homid. If you lose Health to silver in your breed form and shift into another form with regeneration, you may regain that lost Health. If there is any silver debris left inside of the wound when you shift, then it will trigger the new form's vulnerability and you will not be able to regain that lost Health.

"Can... Can you get it outta him, Marley?"

"I'm not a doctor, Sam. None of us are. If I cut into something that I'm not meant to, Isaiah could die." Once again, you're forced to reckon with the fact that you're just a bunch of teenagers. You might be werewolves with supernatural abilities, but you were thrown into this situation with almost no training. "It might just be safer to leave the silver inside of him until we can get him back to the caern."

"He was shot while he was in Homid, wasn't he?" Ella sounds a little hesitant as she asks that question. "If we can get it out and wake him up long enough for him to shift into another form, shouldn't it heal?"
>>
"Good luck with getting him to wake up before he bleeds out," Marley replies. "Our best bet is to get him to someone who knows what they're doing, someone who we can trust. We don't know anyone in this town, or anyone nearby, so the caern's our only choice."

"This is a fucking mess," Alex murmurs and you can't help but agree. Sheepdog told you that the den mother will be observing your Rite through a lesser spirit. If Harrower really is watching, is she callous enough to let a kid die during their Rite of Passage? Are the Garou that heartless?

>Take the risk. Tell Marley to cut out the silver and patch Isaiah up as best as he can afterwards. If he's able to regain consciousness, hopefully the boy will be able to shift and regenerate that wound.
>Play it safe. You don't want to risk killing Isaiah by accident. Leave the bullets untouched and just stop his bleeding for now. The risk of death is lower but he will remain a burden in this state.
>Find a professional who can help. You could bring Ella along to convince them to lend a hand. However, this requires wandering through Tennyson, which might not be a good idea after everything that you've done.

"Leave the bullets in him," you tell Marley. "Just make sure that he won't bleed out. Once we've gotten him somewhere safe, we can get someone who knows what they're doing to pull them out." This pack is lacking a lot of important skills. Only one of them knows how to drive, only one of them knows how to shoot, none of them have any real first aid training and three of them are completely ignorant when it comes to modern society. Outside of their supernatural abilities, they're basically useless. If you're going to stick with them, you'll need to beat them into shape once the Rite is over.

"Isaiah's not the only one who we should be worrying about," Alex remarks once she has staunched your bleeding and dressed the wound. "You're this close to freaking out on us, Sam."

"Yeah, and what am I supposed to do about that? Go outside and find someone to fight?"

"Hit me." For a second, you think that the girl is joking but she's dead serious. She just takes a couple of steps back, spreads her scrawny arms apart and leaves her scrawny self wide open for you to strike her.

"Why the fuck would I wanna do that?"

"The last thing we need is you going apeshit on us the next time that something goes wrong," she explains, "and it's not like I can't take it. Besides, isn't this what Garou do? They beat the shit outta each other to blow off steam all of the time, and to rile each other up too. Ain't I right, Marley?"

"She's got a point," the Metis murmurs, though he's too busy patching up Isaiah to focus on your conversation or offer further commentary.

"Do we have to be like all of the other werewolves?" Ella looks horrified at the prospect of further violence, especially within the pack. "It just seems so... unnecessary. I know that we had to fight each other when Harrower told us to, and that we need to kill the servants of the Wyrm, but do we really have to do this?"

"Do you have a better idea?" The Amish girl flinches when you ask that question. You didn't mean to snap at her but at this point, the fury bubbling inside of you influences everything that you say and do.

"We just need to be careful until tomorrow," Ella pleads. "We don't have to lash out at each other like animals, all we need to do is stay out of trouble until you can meditate again or something. We can be better than Harrower and the rest of the Garou."
>>
"Now's not the time for all of that moral and pious bullshit, Ella. If anything goes wrong, anything at all, Sam's gonna frenzy. He needs this. So get the fuck over yourself and let this happen." The scrawny girl turns her scowling face towards you next. "Go on, hit me. I know that I piss you off; I annoy everyone, it's just what I do. So why don't you vent some of that frustration and just fucking punch me or something already?!"

>Bottle up your anger. Ella's right, you don't have to be like all of the other Garou. You refuse to indulge in this sadomasochistic nonsense.

Even the Garou can be right about some things. The fact is we’re a hair’s breadth away from frenzy and we need to vent our rage safely, be it through mutual combat or entering frenzy in an appropriate environment with nothing important nearby. Considering we’re still in a city being pursued by law enforcement and Wyrm servants alike, entering frenzy would be far too great a risk to the Veil and would also deplete our very valuable rage, which means our only option is to take our rage down by a little bit by fighting Alex.
Right now it’s not about the principles of doing things differently, it’s about doing what our unique biology requires. Allowing our rage to remain so high is a bad idea, and we might end up killing innocents or even Isaiah if we frenzy at the wrong moment.

>Your highest roll was 53 against my roll of 11. Success.

>You spend 1 Rage. You Rage is currently 8/10.

"I'm not gonna hit someone who isn't a threat to me. If we're gonna do this, then we've gotta make a fight out of it." You've got your principles and you're going to stand by them, even if it makes Alex scoff. Her frustration is apparent.

"Seriously? You do realise that if I break your nose or something, you're gonna frenzy, right?"

"You couldn't break my nose even if you tried, Alex. Not in that form." Honestly, you feel a little bad about fighting the short, skinny brunette at all. Even Ella could put up a better fight than her. "We should go somewhere more secluded than this though."

"What, you wanna go outside and find somewhere more romantic to beat the shit outta me?" She shakes her head in disbelief. "Sam, the whole town's probably looking for us right now. This is the safest place where we could do this. Every step we take outside of this motel is gonna be a risk." With that, she raises her fists and shifts her footing as she adopts a boxer's stance. It's possibly the least threatening thing you've ever seen. "So, are we gonna do this or not? I'll throw the first fucking punch if I have to."

She does precisely that, shortly after you shift your own posture into a defensive one. Alex throws a few jabs at you but to be honest, they don't even hurt. You're not sure if she's holding back or if she really is that feeble. But even if you'll feel bad about it, you've got to unleash some of that rage. That's the whole purpose of this. So when you lash out at her, you don't pull your punches. In the heat of a moment, you seize a handful of her brown hair, still streaked with traces of washed-out green dye, and punch Alex in the face.

You don't just hit her once but again and again, not stopping until the sound of crunching bone drags you back to reality and you remind yourself that she's your packmate, not an enemy. You eventually let go of her and allow the girl to stagger backwards and fall on her ass. You've given Alex a bloody nose, a busted lip and the beginnings of a black eye that will grow much more severe as the bruising develops. You're pretty sure that you've fractured her cheekbone.

>Alex loses 1 Health. Her Health is currently 2/3.
>Alex gains 1 Rage. Her Rage is currently 5/10.

"Shit, are you okay?"

"I'm fine," she says, though she doesn't sound it. She wipes away some of the blood leaking from her nose and some of the tears flowing from her eyes. "I'll be okay as soon as I shift. I mean, I've kicked your ass a lot worse than this back at the caern, didn't I?"

"That was different." You reach down to help the battered girl back up to her feet. Somehow, beating the shit out of one of your packmates when they're in their human form feels a lot different to tearing each other apart when you're both in Crinos. "And just one thing, Alex; you don't annoy me that much."
>>
"But I do annoy you," she remarks with a blood-smeared grin as she pushes herself back upright with your aid.

"We're finished with Isaiah," Ella calls out abruptly. Rather than watch the two of you go at it, it seems like she went to help Marley tend to the boy. A frown of disapproval still lingers on her face though. "We've done what we can to stop the bleeding, but we need to get him to an actual doctor as soon as we can."

"There are healers back to the caern who can take care of him. We shouldn't mess around with the herd more than we have done already." Marley seems pretty eager to get back as soon as possible.

"Well, let's get going then." Alex rubs at her swollen eye and winces. Her words are a little slurred too. "I don't want to stick around in this fucking town for another second. The more time we spend here, the more time we give Pentex to send another team. We've got the fucking cops to worry about, too. If we can borrow someone's car, we should be able to get to the caern by tomorrow morning."

"Please, can we just stop stealing from innocent people?" Ella seems rather distressed at this suggestion. "We've exploited too many already. Can't we go back by bus or something, just like how we came here?"

"Oh sure, because we totally won't get any weird looks dragging a half-dead kid from one side of the state to the other on a bunch of buses." Alex can't help but roll her eyes. "Sam, can you please talk some fucking sense into her and make her realise that Isaiah's health comes before us obeying the ten commandments? The more time we waste, the less likely it is that he'll make it."

You've got a lot of decisions to make.

First of all, should you stay for the night or should you leave immediately?

>You should stay. Isaiah needs to rest and the cops are probably out looking for the culprits right now.
>You have to go. Isaiah needs help as soon as possible and the longer you stay, the more danger you will be in.

Second of all, should you seek out a human doctor or head straight back to the caern?

>Find a doctor. Isaiah can't afford to wait for you to travel halfway across the state. He needs help now.
>Return to the caern. You can't risk drawing attention or breaching the Veil by getting humans involved.

Third of all, how are you going to get around?

>Go by bus. You risk drawing a lot of attention by hauling an unconscious Isaiah around, but you should reach the caern within twenty-four hours.
>Steal a car. This is by far the quickest method, but a stolen car is likely to be reported... unless you use Ella's Gift. She's not going to be happy.
>Cross-country running, Hispo style. It'll take a couple of days to reach the caern but as long as you avoid towns, you won't need to worry about humans.
>Step sideways into the Umbra. You'll need to worry about Banes instead of humans, but maybe a spirit could help you reach your destination faster.

Ella can use her gift to keep the doc calm 'til they're done. Then...

As soon as Isaiah's stable, move. Maybe he can shift and regen tomorrow, if we're lucky.

This seems safest right now, banes aside. Not like we're in the thick of the institute with its fuckoff awful swarm of monster-spirits anymore, right?

No we're just carrying the thing that drew all the banes there in the first place. Umbra travel is a bad idea right now, and someone is going to raise an eyebrow at pulling silver bullets out of a kid even if we mind control the doc. No, we gtfo asap.

ultimately, Isaiah could die if he doesnt receive medical attention very soon.

Ella doesnt have to use her gift but we DO need to get back to the caern ASAP, which means stealing a car asap.

We should probably try to prevent the car owner from calling in the theft, we dont want to wrangle with regular cops on the way down.

>Get a taxi/minibus back home
We are in a city, so there’s bound to be a long-distance taxi firm here somewhere. We can find someone with a minibus, get Ella to use her gift on them so that they ignore any weird shit and then pay them with the money we have left. It’ll be pricey, but it both gets us directly to the caern and avoids stealing. EZ.

"We don't need to steal anything." This remark earns you a baffled look from both Alex and Ella. "Tennyson is a city, right? It might not be a big one but there's gotta be taxis here. All we need to do is find someone with a minibus or something, and convince them to drop us off somewhere near the caern."

"When you say 'convince,' you mean that you want me to make them do it." Ella remains doubtful.

"Only if cash isn't enough." You're going to work with her morals, not against them. "Even if we've gotta use your Gift, we're still gonna pay them everything that we've got left. You're not going to exploit or take advantage of anyone, you're just gonna convince someone to do the right thing, alright? I'm not telling you to do anything evil or immoral, I just want us to get home before Isaiah dies."

The blonde girl eventually acquiesces and though her frown softens, it still remains. As soon as you've changed out of your stolen scrubs and into some ordinary (but still stolen) clothes, you make your way down to the front desk of the motel while the others prepare to leave. The same bored-looking woman from last night is sat behind the desk with her eyes glued to her cellphone. You check out, ask her for the number of a cab company and make the call using the motel's landline phone. All you ask for is a minibus; you decide against mentioning the details of your exact destination or the fact that one of the passengers will be half-dead.

It only takes fifteen minutes for the cab to turn up, though as soon as the driver lays his eyes on the half-dead boy in Marley's arms, he tries to back out of the job.

"Listen, what you kids need is a goddamn ambulance, not a taxi." He's a balding, middle-aged man with a bit of a weight problem, who's more interested in living a boring life free of trouble than lending a helping hand. Typical herd behaviour, you find yourself thinking for a moment. "And you do know that Mansfield is on the other side of the state, right? It would take five, six hours to get there and there's no way in hell I'm driving that far tonight."

You look towards Ella. After a second of biting her lip, she nods and steps forward.

>Ella spends 1 Will. Her Will is currently 5/10.

"We can't take him to a hospital. I know he doesn't look it but he's Amish, his faith wouldn't allow it." Is that true? You're not sure, but you don't disrupt Ella's pleading. You can hear the power in her words and you can see the driver's expression soften. "We need to get him back to Ladburg. Please, he's not well and we don't have any other choice. We'll pay you as much as we can though."

"I... Goddammit, fine. You should be able to lay him across the backseat, though one of you better stay back there with him to make sure he doesn't fall off."
>>
The interior of the minibus is pretty spacious. While you stay at the back of the vehicle and watch over Isaiah, Ella sits at the front with the taxi driver - who introduces himself as Peyton - and answers any questions he has about your situation. She weaves an elaborate story, about how you're all Amish children who ran away from your home-town and tried to find a place into the modern world, only to end up in all sorts of trouble. For someone who is so moral, Ella has the potential to be a fantastic liar.

As for Alex, she sits with Marley and does her best to help him with his motion sickness and distract him from his nausea and his hammering headache. You can only hope that eventually, the Metis will become accustomed to travelling in vehicles. There's no way that you'll sacrifice something as convenient as cars just for the sake of a packmate's comfort.

It doesn't take long for you to leave Tennyson behind and end up on the I-80, speeding eastwards down the highway. Minutes become hours as time passes you by but you try to focus on Isaiah throughout the journey, to make sure that he's still breathing and doing okay. You did everything that you could for him back at the motel, so all you can do is hope that it's enough to keep him alive until he can get the help he needs.

>Your highest roll was 88. Isaiah's condition remains stable.

Occasionally Isaiah wakes up long enough to groan and shift about, but he is soon overwhelmed by the pain and slips back into unconsciousness. He even tries to speak once or twice, but you can't comprehend the words that he murmurs in his delirious state. All you can do is make sure that he is comfortable as he is ferried from one side of the state to the other.

At this time of night, there isn't much traffic. Peyton turns off of the I-80 after three hours of trundling along the highway and heads up north, past Williamsport and towards Mansfield. From there, it only takes him twenty minutes for him to follow his GPS to the outskirts of Ladburg, the Amish commune at the edge of the caern. The sky's clear enough that the fields and farmhouses are illuminated by the light of the gibbous moon. Who could imagine that such an idyllic place is a breeding ground for werewolves?

"This is the place, right?" Leyton brings that minibus to a stop and glances over at Ella. "You need me to drive you kids to a particular house? Anyway, don't you worry about paying. I'm just glad that I got y'all home in one piece." His tune has changed a lot over the last few hours, though you suppose you have the girl's Gift to thank for that. If only people were naturally this kind.

"No, you deserve the money," Ella asserts before she stares expectantly in your direction. You fish out the last of the cash that you have left and hand it over to the driver, while Alex and Marley see to Isaiah and carry his unconscious body out of the cab. The Metis clearly isn't happy that he had to spend several hours in a moving metal box for the second day in a row, but he keeps his complaints to himself.

>Marley gains 1 Rage. His Rage is currently 5/10.

Once Leyton has been paid and you've said your farewells, he drives off into the night. Though your exfiltration from the institute might have been fraught with issues, your departure from Tennyson went as smoothly as you could possibly hope. Isaiah's still alive and you've got your bag full of goodies, including the artefact that drew all of the Banes to that hospital in the first place.

On one hand, you know that Farsight Salazar would want the mask for himself. He told you how the Uktena, seek to learn from the enemy by studying it so by giving this fetish to him, you would earn his favour and possibly a place in his tribe. On the other hand, almost every other werewolf that you've met has shown a hatred for all things tainted by the Wyrm and would prefer to see this artefact destroyed. Maybe you should give it to them instead. Ella has a third idea, but she sounds unsure about it.
>>
"This is our Rite of Passage, Sam. We might have done what was asked of us, but... Maybe we should be the ones to break it?"

"I'm not sure that's a good idea," says Marley. "If it is a fetish, then it could contain a powerful Bane. We'd need to face that spirit ourselves if we destroy the mask and there's a chance that we wouldn't win that fight. We should leave this to a pack that knows what it's doing."

"But if we're the ones to slay whatever comes out of it, then we'll be the ones who receive the glory. No one could say that we're not worthy of being Garou if we kill a mighty Bane."

"There's no need for a fucking victory lap," Alex snaps. "Maybe we'd have a chance if Isaiah wasn't full of silver but as things stand, it's a stupid risk that we shouldn't take. We should let the professionals destroy that piece of shit instead, right, Sam?" All three of them seem to agree on one thing; that the mask should be destroyed. They might not be all that happy if you give it to the Uktena.

>Find Farsight Salazar and tell him about the jade mask. He will come to collect it and will surely be pleased with you, even if others are not.
>Send someone to tell the sept about the artefact that you found. They will send a pack to destroy it and allow you to return to the caern.

Alright guys - we have a chance to research a Wyrm weapon and possible cleanse it for safe use. Even if we can’t cleanse it, have an Umbral buglight to draw in Wyrm spirits is definitely going to be helpful to have.

Destroying it outright doesn’t do much to help us and it would be bette to use it against the enemy directly, no?

Too potentially useful to just destroy. We don't need to wield it as a weapon or anything, but the 'buglight' idea others brought up is a valid one, and studying it prior to destruction to better fight the Wyrm is also a good idea. Maybe someday we can even learn to cure banes?

"No one's going to destroy it," you say. Your pack deserves to know the truth. "The Uktena are gonna be interested in what we've found, so I'm gonna find Salazar and hand it over to him. He'll decide what to do with it."

"What the fuck?" Alex is the only one who verbally reacts, but the other two appear equally shocked by your suggestion. "You do realise that it's a Bane magnet, right?"

"Yeah, which is why it could be useful if we keep it intact, it could be used to lure minions of the Wyrm into traps and stuff." You're not going to back down. "It could have other uses that we don't know about either. Who knows what might happen if someone puts it on? If it's a fetish, what kind of spirit does it contain? We just don't know enough about it and that's why we should give it to the tribe that specialises in this sort of thing, so that they can figure out its secrets out and maybe take advantage of it."

"Well, you're the alpha," Marley says with a sigh, "so it's up to you. I hope you know what you're doing, Sam. We'll find somewhere comfortable for Isaiah and wait for you." None of them seem very convinced, but they're too tired to argue with you. At this point, everyone just wants the Rite to be over and you can't say that you blame them.

You jog down the moonlit roads of Ladburg and make your way to the forest's edge, into the eerie forest where you spent the last month of your life. Everything seems so lively and colourful, even under the cover of darkness. It's got to be three or four o'clock in the morning, but there are all sorts of beasts roaming around the undergrowth and swooping between the branches. No matter how much time you spend here, you'll never get used to the mystical, mysterious atmosphere of these woods.

You don't get too far before you're intercepted by another werewolf, one that you haven't met before. A gargantuan wolf with a scarred nose and dirty grey fur emerges from the shadows, baring its fangs at you. You raise your hands in a disarming gesture as you explain your presence to the other Garou.

"Hey, uh... I'm one of the cubs that was sent on their Rite," you explain, "I've gotta speak with Farsight Salazar, we found something that requires an Uktena's attention. Do you know where he is..?" You trail off hesitantly, unsure of how to speak with another werewolf in this context.
>>
"This way," the gigantic beast grunts at you in the High Tongue before it turns around and leads you deeper into the forest. It occasionally stops to sniff at the air or the soil but after a few minutes of following the other Garou, you come across Salazar. Currently wearing the form of a slender wolf with ruddy red fur, he's fast asleep beneath the shelter of an oak tree's boughs. It is the middle of the night, after all. Before your guide departs, you tell it about the wounds that Isaiah sustained and ask if it could find a healer who could tend to him. The creature only responds with an irritated huff before it lopes off into the undergrowth, leaving you to speak with the Uktena in peace.

Thankfully, you only to say his name a couple of times before Salazar starts to stir. After a yawn and a long, languid stretch, he shifts out of Lupus and back into his human form, fully dressed in the same snappy outfit he was wearing when you first met him. You really need to figure out that trick.

"Qué?" The Uktena gives you a sleepy, somewhat irritated glare, at least until he figures out who you are. As soon as he realises who he is speaking to, he's suddenly grinning cheerfully. "Oh, if it isn't the Ronin's son! I thought you were off on your Rite of Passage. What brings you back so soon?"

"We found something," you explain, "it seems to be some sort of corrupted fetish, so I thought you might be interested in it. I didn't bring it into the caern though, since it attracts Banes and the last thing I wanted to do was lure tainted spirits into a sacred place. The rest of the pack is waiting with it outside of the forest."

"You're wise beyond your years, Samuel." For some reason, he doesn't seem particularly surprised by your discovery. "Lead the way, show me what you've found!"

While you make your way through the forest and return to the outskirts of Ladburg, you tell the Mestizo about the artefact, where you find it and what it looks like. It doesn't take you too long to trace your footsteps out of the woodland and back along the dirt roads, to where the others await. Ella and Alex both eye the Uktena sceptically, whereas Marley has enough respect for an elder and a superior to bow his head. As for Isaiah, he seems to be missing.

"A couple of the caern guardians came to pick him up and take him to a healer," Marley says when you ask where the boy went. That's a relief. You're about to ask for more information when Salazar clears his throat, reminding you of his presence and what he's here for. You better not keep him waiting.

You open up the duffel bag and after a bit of rummaging, you produce that jade mask and offer it to the Uktena. He turns the artefact over in his hands and examines it closely. Salazar shows no signs of curiosity as he inspects the device; he's more interested in making sure that it's intact and undamaged. You get the feeling that he knows exactly what it is.
>>
"Wonderful! Not only were you able to deliver this device to me, but you kept it in pristine condition, truly commendable! I will see to it that it is kept out of the wrong hands." With those words, Salazar simply flicks his wrist and suddenly, the mask is gone.

"What the fuck? Where did it go?" Alex is alarmed by the sudden disappearance of the artefact; to tell the truth, so are you.

"Somewhere safe," the Mestizo says, "somewhere far away from here where it can do no harm."

"What, are you just going to lock it away forever?" You can't help but feel a little disappointed. "I mean, at the very least it could be used to ensnare Banes and lead them into a trap or something. What happened to wielding the enemy's weapons against it?"

"Before that is possible, my tribe must study this fetish and uncover its secrets. We must learn how it was made, why it was made and what it is capable of. Once we know all of this, then perhaps it can be put to good use. Until then, I believe you should be worried about getting some shut-eye. Sleep is a wonderful thing!" With that remark, the Uktena offers you a cheerful smile and turns to leave. All you can do is gawk at his back as he strolls off into the night with a spring in his step.

"Why do I get the feeling that we just got played?" Alex lets out a flustered sigh after she asks that question, rubbing her eyes.

"It doesn't matter," Marley replies, "and besides, he's right. We've done everything that we could. All we can do now is get some sleep and hear what Harrower's got to say when tomorrow comes."

"Do you think we did well enough?" Ella sounds a little anxious but more than that, she sounds tired. All four of you are exhausted at this point; all of your energy is spent.

How are you going to answer her question?

>You did good. Considering the circumstances, your pack did as well as anyone could have possibly hoped.

"We killed a bunch of Pentex assholes, we trashed their operation, we stole a magic mask and we're all still alive. If you ask me, we did pretty good."

"Not that good," Alex says in an attempt to bring you back down to earth. "We could've been a lot quieter. If we were, maybe Isaiah wouldn't have come this fucking close to kicking the bucket." You can't help but feel a little attacked, considering that you're the one who called the shots.

"Hey, we tried to get in quietly with those disguises, remember? How was I supposed to know that the goons from Hampton & Holt would figure us out so quickly, or that they had a fucking sentry on the rooftop?" She's about to retort when Marley butts in.

"There's no point in arguing over how we could've done better," the Metis remarks. "We did good enough and even though Sam made a couple of dumb decisions, I'd say that our success is proof that he's a decent alpha." With that said, he grins wryly in your direction. "Just don't let it go to your head, alright? You come up with some pretty stupid ideas sometimes."

"Yeah, that's why I keep you guys around, to talk some sense into me when I'm being a moron." You're not about to claim to be a perfect leader.

"I guess that why I'm okay with having you in charge," Alex grudgingly admits. "You take advice and don't just boss us around. If that ever changes and you become some arrogant jackass who thinks that he doesn't have to listen to his pack, I'm out." She looks towards Ella. "So, what about you? How do you feel about our glorious leader, huh?"

An awkward silence falls as the blonde averts her eyes and frowns in the direction of the caern for several seconds. "I don't know," she finally murmurs. You get the feeling that she doesn't want to share what she really thinks of you. "Can't we talk about this tomorrow? We should get some sleep."

She has a point. Rather than linger in Ladburg any longer, the four of you make your way into the forest and back to the glade that you have called home for the past month. Your familiar bivouac is there for you to crawl under and almost as soon as you've laid yourself down on the bedding of moss and leaves, you fall fast asleep.

Your slumber only lasts for a few hours before you've awoken by daylight and the grumbling of your belly. It's been ages since you last ate. Since it doesn't smell like Marley is cooking anything, you make the decision to shift into Lupus, sharpen your claws and hunt down some mice. They sate your hunger quite nicely and your new form also allows the injury that you sustained in Tennyson to heal.

>You spend 1 Will. Your Will is currently 5/10.
>You gain 1 Health. Your Health is currently 3/3.
>You spend 1 Rage. Your Rage is currently 7/10.
>>
After that is out of the way, you take the opportunity to meditate. It's still quite early in the day and there's no sign of Harrower, so it's the perfect time for you to quell your rage and cultivate your gnosis. Your thoughts dissipate and the wild energy of the caern pours into the vessel that your mind has become, where it transforms your primordial fury into the mystical force that fuels your abilities.

>You lose 3 Rage. Your Rage is currently 4/10.
>You gain 3 Will. Your Will is currently 8/10.

Not long after your meditation comes to an end, the den mother finally shows herself. Despite your success and your safe return, her demeanour remains severe. Rather than congratulate you or offer you any respect, she barks a simple command:

"Follow."

The four of you obey and follow Harrower to the vast meadow, the place where the Garou of the sept seem to congregate. Several of them have already gathered and are currently standing around and chatting with each other while they wait. You recognise Sheepdog and Farsight Salazar, as well as Omar Never-Sleeps and Weeping Azalea. There's also a blonde of Amazonian proportions dressed as though she's the front woman for a punk rock band, with plenty of black leather and torn-up denim. You're not surprised when Alex gives her an excited wave; she must be the Black Fury who found the girl after her First Change.

Isaiah's here too. He looks a little pale but he's actually conscious, dressed in clean Amish garments that obscure all of her wounds he received. A faint smile crosses his face when he lays his eyes on your pack but before any of you can greet him and ask how he is, the den mother commands the five of you to stand in a line. Once you've organised yourselves, the other werewolves stop chattering and give your group their full attention.

"There will be time for ceremony later, if we consider you worthy of it," she begins as she takes her place among the older Garou. "We are here now to evaluate you. Who speaks for your pack? Who is the alpha?" She knows the answer but to make it clear for the others, you step forward. "Through the eyes of a spirit of the sky, I saw all that occurred. I know what you have done, but I want to hear the tale from your perspective. Tell us everything, Samuel Pullman. Start from the beginning."

You do as you're told and share the story of everything that you've done since you left the caern. You tell them how you gathered the resources needed to cross the state without attracting attention, how you saw the institute for the first time, how you questioned Doctor Pisarski, how you followed the truck full of Fomori and slew its occupants, how you assaulted the hospital and put an end to Pentex's operations there and finally, how you made your way back to the caern and what you did with the mask.
>>
More than once, Harrower interrupts your story in order to establish certain unflattering details that you omitted. Every now and then, the judges ask you questions in order to clarify what happened and understand why you made these decisions, and sometimes they ask your packmates for their interpretation of events and how they felt about your decisions. Their reactions run the gamut, ranging from amusement to disappointment to satisfaction to surprise. Though you have no method of recording the passage of time, you feel as though an hour has passed before your report is finally complete.

"It's been a while since I've heard of a Rite of Passage that was so eventful," Salazar comments with a little chuckle.

"But they didn't do everything that was asked of them," the Black Fury asserts. You part your lips to reply, but Harrower silences you with a sharp glare. The adults are talking. "They neglected the Umbra and failed to get rid of the Banes that plague the hospital. The job's half-done."

"Did they, Delilah?" Weeping Azalea, a Child of Gaia and the surprisingly youthful mother of Marley, doesn't seem so sure. "They realised that the fetish was what drew the spirits to the institute in the first place. Now that it is gone, shouldn't the Banes disperse and return to their natural habitats? They may even turn on each other."

"I've got a question, why was that mask there in the first place?" Omar Never-Sleeps, the swarthy Silent Strider, doesn't look at you but instead narrows his eyes at the Uktena. "Hey, Salazar. You were the one who told the sept about the institute in the first place, right?"

"I was," the Mestizo replies uncertainly. "What's your point?"

"Why didn't you mention the fetish? Am I supposed to believe that you didn't know anything about a Wyrm-tainted relic when that's the sort of shit that your damn tribe revolves around?" Omar jabs a finger in the Uktena's direction. "You know what, I've got a theory. You knew that the mask was there but you didn't fancy your chances of retrieving it on your own. So you told the sept about the hospital but not about the fetish, 'cause you knew that they'd send a pack to destroy it. No, you wanted to make it seem like a nice and easy job for an inexperienced pack, one that you could trick into retrieving the relic for you, am I right?"

"That's ridiculous," Salazar scoffs.

"Not really," Sheepdog says, "it makes a whole lot of sense. That explains why you asked me so much about Sam and why you offered to make him Uktena, even though he's white."
>>
"Can we please stop throwing around baseless accusations and focus on the matter at hand?" The Uktena seems a little nervous at this point, especially now that the other Garou are glowering at him. "We are here to determine whether this Rite of Passage was a success! I, for one, stand by my word. Though it is true that Samuel neglected the Umbra and did not pay enough attention to spiritual matters, his decision to recover one of the enemy's weapons so that it could be studied and used against the Wyrm was a wise one. I would be honoured to offer him a place among the Uktena!"

>You successfully qualified for the Uktena.

"I shall tell the high alpha of Salazar's deceit later," Harrower growls as she glares daggers at the Mestizo, "but he is right. We should focus on the matter at hand." She then turns to face you. "You should have ventured into the Umbra and slain all of those Banes. You knew of them, yet you let them live. You are fortunate that this is your sole failure. You displayed your commitment to Gaia when you chose to hunt the shipment of Fomori, when you could have let it escape. Whenever you fought, you fought well. You succeeded in spite of great adversity and I consider you worthy of the Get. You have passed this Rite."

>You successfully qualified for the Get of Fenris.

"See, I consider that whole business with the truck to be the turning point," Omar says. He focuses on you and already, his expression is rather apologetic. "If you didn't attack that truck, Pentex wouldn't have had a clue that you were coming. Yeah, you got rid of some Fomori but that doesn't change the fact that you made a choice, kid. You chose to give away your presence before you struck the killing blow. You gave the enemy the chance to react, to escalate and prepare for another Garou attack. You made things harder for yourself and that's exactly the sort of thing a Strider would never do."

"Sounds like cowardice to me," Delilah says. Omar pointedly ignores the Fury's jab.

"Now, I can appreciate your attempt at subtlety with those disguises, but... Well, that didn't really work out, did it? You did your best work when you went in loud, which just ain't how my tribe does things. There's some things you did right though; everyone you killed, you killed without cruelty. I admire that. I also like how you took those hard drives, it shows that you know the importance of intel. To sum things up, I'd be honoured to work with you if our paths ever cross again, but you just ain't Strider material. Sorry, kid."

>You failed to qualify for the Silent Striders.

"That was a bit harsh," Azalea murmurs, only to receive a shrug from the Strider in response. You just stand there, trying to keep your disappointment from becoming too visible as Sheepdog takes his turn.
>>
"Like Omar, I'm going to be honest with you." The lanky ex-cop pauses to clear his throat before he gives you his evaluation. "You belong in the Glass Walkers, Sam. I lost count of the number of times when you used technology and society to your advantage. A lot of Garou kind of fixate on the whole 'werewolf' thing after their First Change, but you're still got a firm grip on your humanity. You used the herd as a resource but never cruelly; you respected human life from the beginning to the end. Finally, while it didn't always work out, you showed a lot of willingness to work outside of the box. If I didn't know better, I'd say that you were a born Walker."

>You successfully qualified for the Glass Walkers.

"You've got a point," Delilah says with a smirk. "Only a Walker would be stupid enough to use a rifle when they've got Crinos."

"Now, Delilah. There's no need for you to comment; it's not as though you're going to let the boy in the Black Furies." Salazar tuts. "However, I must agree that the Glass Walkers are the perfect tribe for him."

"I think that's the only thing we can all agree on," Omar concurs reluctantly.

"While that's true, we aren't here to choose for Sam. It's his decision." It's Azalea's turn. Her dreadlocks sway as she turns to regard you with a terse smile. "While I'm not sure how well you are suited to the Children of Gaia, I would be willing to give you a chance. You frequently used innocent people as resources, exploiting them and stealing from them whenever it would give you an advantage. I can't condone this. However, you never endangered anyone innocent and you never considered the possibility of leaving behind the patients that were being experimented on. Saving them was always a part of the mission for you, even though that was never explicitly said. Should you seek a place among the Children, you will be welcome. We would gladly give you the opportunity to grow."

>You successfully qualified for the Children of Gaia.

"Most Garou are not given this opportunity," Harrower says as she regards you with a stony stare. "Most of us are born into our tribes. You have a choice, Sam. I hope that you make the right one."

We have expressed no desire to learn magic or pacifism.

We are Ahroun. We go full boar when it comes to combat. We think.

Before I was concerned over us fitting in with the Get but as we have seen with our pack the Get are more than a stereo type. I am happy with either one, but I still lean toward Glass Walker because I like city werewolves who are not bone gnawers.

I am pretty tempted to pick Uktena but ultimately, I don’t think that it’s a good option for Sam - Glass Walkers seems like the natural fit here given our play style and his history.

>Join the Glass Walkers. If you join this tribe, expect a focus on humanity and technology. You will gain increased access to Gifts related to technology, firearms and unnatural elements.

Salazar does owe us a pretty fucking big favor for retrieving the mask though, so maybe we could collaborate with the Uktena on a regular basis even if we’re Glass Walkers.

Aw man I missed the vote, ah well. Glass Walkers ain't bad, but I'd have preferred Fenris. Seeing as I would have been severely outvoted though does make me feel a bit better knowing it didn't matter. >I'll take a moment to reply to this.

>It's true that some Glass Walkers don't act like werewolves. A lot of them can be described as mobsters, hackers and businessmen who can transform into wolves when the situation calls for it. Their identity is defined less by the fact that they're werewolves and more by their position in human society. This can be boring but it also makes them a good tribe for introducing players who are new to Werewolf the Apocalypse.

>On the other hand, Glass Walkers are more than capable of interacting with the weird and wonderful parts of the setting.
>They're the only tribe that regularly binds spirits to modern technology to create vehicles, computers, firearms and even software that possess mystical properties. This process can also be used to create cybernetic enhancements and other technology straight out of science fiction, though doing so is heavily frowned upon after recent controversies.
>They're also the tribe that interacts the most with urban spirits. While a lot of other tribes focus on negotiating with nature spirits or slaying Banes, the Glass Walkers are the ones who deal with the spirits of skyscrapers, finance, cars, electricity and more. These beings can do a lot of incredible things and teach a lot of esoteric Gifts, once their favour has been earned.
>There's also the case of the Weaver, the spirit-god of structure and civilisation. The Glass Walkers are the tribe that cares the most about her and her brood. A lot of them are interested in curing her supposed madness and want to bring an end to her desire for a static Gaia. It's a difficult balancing act and the rest of the Garou Nation often accuse the Walkers of abandoning Gaia in favour of a new goddess. Some of them really have sold their souls to the Weaver, with horrifying consequences.

>So the more grounded Glass Walkers are basically just normal people who use their supernatural abilities to gain an upper hand in society, while the more outlandish Glass Walkers are techno-shamans who commune with the spirits of civilisation and wield them against Pentex to devastating effect.
>>
>>5579350
All of that sounds awesome. I hope Sam goes full cyborg techno-shaman.

"If the Glass Walkers will take me, that's the tribe that I'd like to join."

No one seems particularly surprised by your decision. Harrower's frown deepens and Salazar seems more than a little relieved, but this is what everyone expected from you.

"Sheepdog considers you worthy," the den mother states, "so he shall induct you into his tribe during the ceremony. Now it is time for us to judge the rest of your pack." Once you have stepped back in line, she turns her attention to the Metis. "We shall begin with you, Marley."

The hairless boy steps forward and is bombarded with various questions regarding his performance and his opinion of the mission. He remains calm, straight-faced and answers every question in a neutral and detached fashion. When he is asked to share his feelings about your leadership, Marley doesn't say anything that you haven't heard from him before. Though you made a few mistakes and had a few dumb ideas, you were open to criticism and acted on the advice you were given. In his eyes, that makes you a good enough alpha.

"See, this is why it's a bad idea to raise Metis in this caern," Sheepdog comments when Marley's motion sickness and unfamiliarity with civilisation is brought up. "At the very least, you could do a better job when it comes to teaching kids about the outside world."

"Abominations such as Marley are living breaches of the Veil before their First Change. We cannot risk them being seen by the herd in their breed form. As for the outside world, he will get used to it." Harrower doesn't seem to appreciate this criticism. "Cultivating an understanding of one's place in Gaia's order is more important. That cannot be learned outside of the caern."

"Being raised here does seem to have given the boy a unique perspective," Salazar admits.

The questioning continues for a while longer. Eventually, Harrower turns to face Weeping Azalea. The Child wilts a little beneath the glare of the den mother.

"Marley is the product of your sin, the bastard offspring of the Children." You glance towards the Metis while Harrower is talking. Though he does his best to remain calm, you can see that Marley's jaw is clenched and his hands are balled up into fists. He must be used to being spoken of in this way. "The Get of Fenris have no desire to take him in, and I do not imagine that any other clan has an interest in adopting your mistake. This makes the abomination your responsibility. So, do you consider him worthy of your tribe?"

"... I do." Azalea looks deeply uncomfortable as she speaks. She refuses to even look her son in the eye. "Like you said, he is my mistake and my responsibility. It would be cruel of me to burden you any longer by leaving him in your care. Marley, you have shown that you think before you act and that you have no desire to engage in needless violence. That is all that I could ask of you. If you wish to become a Child of Gaia, then we will gladly accept you."
>>
"Thank you, mother." When the Metis speaks, his words are stilted. This entire exchange is awkward and uncomfortable. "I would be honoured."

>Marley has joined the Children of Gaia.

"Alex. Step forward."

The scrawny brunette steps forward once Marley has returned to the line. Unlike the Metis, she is rather defensive and confrontational when the others interrogate her about her action. Sheepdog, Salazar and especially Delilah seem amused by her antics, while Omar and Harrower are obviously unimpressed. When she is asked about your style of leadership, her answer is blunt.

"He can be pretty retarded sometimes, but what's important is that I let him know when he's being a moron and when I do, he's smart enough to listen. That's all I could ask for from any leader."

"Not sure how much I like this pack dynamic," Omar comments. "This whole 'decision by committee' thing is gonna backfire on you guys at some point."

"It's worked for them so far," Azalea retorts, "so I don't see why they should change anything. If they mindlessly obeyed their alpha at all times, I imagine that their Rite of Passage would've been much less successful. Besides, it's so much healthier than trying to enforce some sort of strict hierarchy."

"They are soldiers of Gaia," Harrower snaps at the Child, "a strict hierarchy is what they need. Without one, there will be confusion and insubordination." Next, she turns towards Delilah, the Black Fury who first found Alex. "You were told to bring the girl's father here, or any other Shadow Lord willing to represent their tribe. Why have you not done so?"

"I couldn't find any," the Fury says dismissively. "If they cared about her at all, they would've collected her themselves instead of leaving Alex for me to pick up. It's not like she's shown any interest in joining that tribe either, so what's the issue?"

"The issue is that you're poaching," Omar answers. "The Shadow Lords are gonna find out that you took one of their cubs from right under their noses and they're not gonna be happy."

"Oh, fuck off." Delilah just rolls her eyes at the Strider's warning. "If they've got a problem with the way I do things, they can come and say it to my face. Now, does anyone else have anything to say? No?" It's not like she pauses for long enough for anyone to answer her. "Alex, you can consider yourself one of the Black Furies. You stood up for yourself, you displayed a whole lot of passion and you didn't take shit from any man. You're a perfect fit for us."

The skinny girl just grins like an idiot; this is everything that she was hoping for. Delilah said exactly what she wanted to hear.

>Alex has joined the Black Furies.

"Isaiah, Ella. Step forward."

With a pronounced limp and a small sound of pain, Isaiah does as he is told. Ella hesitantly follows him. This time, Harrower doesn't ask for their perspective or for any further information. Instead, she launches herself into a lecture.
>>
"If you were born twenty years earlier, neither of you would have passed your Rite of Passage. You would have been put to death for your weakness. Isaiah, you allowed yourself to be brought to the brink of death by mere humans. Though you displayed courage and a desire to persevere, that did not make up for your humiliating performance. Ella, you hesitated and endangered your pack on multiple occasions. Though you eventually overcame your cowardice, you still allowed yourself to be paralysed by fear. You are both disappointments and twenty years ago, you would have been considered unworthy of the Get."

Isaiah flinches and averts his eyes in shame. As for Ella, she just stares incredulously at Harrower.

"Jesus, Tilly." Sheepdog frowns towards the den mother. "There's no need to be so hard on them."

"I am not finished," she snaps at the Walker before she turns back towards the Amish pair. "You should both consider yourself fortunate. Times have changed and the Garou Nation has grown desperate. Too many of the Get have died in recent years for us to maintain our standards. We have no choice but to accept weaklings and cowards. I have to choice but to accept you, and to pray to Gaia that you may eventually overcome your failings. Isaiah, do you accept your place among the Get of Fenris?"

The blonde boy remains silent for a while. His face is scarlet with embarrassment; he's obviously humiliated by the den mother's words, but he can't afford to refuse her offer.

"Yes, ma'am." His answer is not much louder than a whisper. "Thank you for giving me this chance."

>Isaiah has joined the Get of Fenris.

"Do not thank me. Thank the Wyrm for slaying so many of our finest that we have to accept the likes of you into our ranks." Harrower then turns to face Ella next. "Ella, do you accept your place among the Get of Fenris?"

"No."

Silence reigns. For a moment, Tilly Harrower's frown slips off of her face and she just gawks at the girl. Everyone is surprised and you're no exception. It takes a few seconds before the den mother is able to collect herself.

"Do you understand what you are doing? By refusing your heritage, you are making yourself Ronin. You are casting yourself out of the Garou Nation. You will spend the rest of your life as an outcast, unworthy of..."

"I know what I'm doing!" Ella almost screams those words at Harrower. "I spent an entire year trying to make you happy! Trying to make you happy, trying to make my father happy, trying to atone for killing my brother, but nothing I do is ever enough for you! I refuse to be grateful for being given a chance to die fighting the Wyrm! I'm sick and tired of you talking about me like I'm a weapon for you to throw at your enemy! I am a person and I deserve better than that! Everyone deserves better than that!"
>>
Again, silence reigns when Ella's rant finally comes to an end. The den mother can't even bring herself to administer her usual punishment and slap the girl.

"If this is what you want, I won't deny you this fate," Harrower eventually says. "We will allow you to remain for long enough to witness the ceremony and celebrate the victory of your pack. Once it is over, you shall be cast out of the caern, never to return on pain of..."

"No," Azalea interrupts, though the Child of Gaia cringes when Harrower glares at her "There's... There's no need for her to be cast out. Her actions have earned her a place with the Children. Based on everything that Sam said about her and the things that she did... I can't think of a better place for her. You might not speak highly of Ella, but she's compassionate, considerate and a lot of this pack's success was thanks to her. I'd be honoured if she chose to join us."

"Any tribe will do, as long as it's not Get of Fenris," Ella says, enunciating that name like it's a slur. Harrower just stares at the girl in a way that can only be described as hateful. Any animosity she previously had for her has developed into full-blown loathing.

>Ella has joined the Children of Gaia.

"... Well, that was terribly dramatic," Salazar remarks with an uneasy chuckle. "Are we finished here?"

"We are," the den mother states once she has finally torn her eyes off of Ella. "Salazar, Omar, you may leave. Delilah, Sheepdog, Azalea, we must prepare for your parts in the Rite." Her attention then swivels to you. "You will need to give each other your deed names, so that the Nation may know you by your accomplishments or by your nature. Return to the training ground; I will collect you when it is time for the Rite."

You bow your head, thank the Garou and take your leave. You only dare to speak once you're out of the meadow and of course, Alex is the first one who opens her mouth.

"Holy shit Ella, that was fucking amazing!" She can't help but giggle giddily. "The look on her face was just incredible. God, I wish I had a phone with me so I could've recorded that!" The Amish girl can't help but smile a little at those comments. "But... Isaiah, you're still stuck with the Get. Are you sure you'll manage?"

"I'll be fine," he insists as he limps along. "Harrower was just hard on us because... because she's a bitch, I guess. There's no way that the entire tribe is that bad. I'll be fine, I just need to figure out my place in it." You're not sure who he's trying to convince. You just hope that he's right.
>>
"So, how are these deed names supposed to work again?" Of course, Alex directs the question at Marley. Who else is supposed to know about this sort of thing?

"The rest of your pack decides your name for you," the Metis explains as you arrive back at the training ground. "You're not meant to have any input on it yourself. It's supposed to refer to a deed you've done, but a lot of the time it refers to personality traits or even your physical appearance instead. Some Garou take the tradition pretty seriously, especially the Lupus since it's the only name they have."

You spend a while discussing ideas for deed names with each other. Plenty of serious suggestions are made, as well as lots of silly ones. Apparently jokey deed names are pretty common, though some traditionalists frown upon them.

For Ella, the pack settles on...

>Slow-To-Anger, in honour of how she put up with Harrower's bullshit for so long.
>Silvertongue, a reference to her ability to persuade others with her words.
>Seeker-Of-Grace, based on how she used her Gift to bring out the goodness in Pisarski and Peyton.
>Bleeding-Heart, a playful jab at her compassion and how much she hates people being used.
>Clings-To-Virtue, another reference to how she stands by her morals, no matter what.

For Alex, you go with...

>Never-Lies, due to how forthright and honest she is most of the time.
>Talks-Without-Tact, based on how blunt she can be, to the point of being pretty rude.
>Foulmouth, a reference to her love of profanity.
>Fomor-Foe, in honour of her actions against the Fomori beneath the institute.
>First-To-Fight, referring to how she was the first to shift into Crinos at the institute.

>Speaks-Sense, due to to the good advice that he has a habit of giving you.
>Voice-Of-Reason, another reference to the wise suggestions he made.
>Know-It-All, based on his borderline encyclopaedic knowledge of Garou society.
>Shuns-The-Weaver, referring to his distaste of human civilisation.
>Butt-Naked, a playful description of his furless appearance when he's in Crinos.

Isaiah shall be known as...

>Riddled-With-Bullets, a little joke about all of the injuries that he sustained.
>Diehard, not just a movie reference but also a way of celebrating his fortitude.
>Still-Standing, a more serious reference to how he survived despite all of his wounds.
>Ever-Faithful, in reference to his lingering Christian beliefs.

If I remember correctly She's either a Galliard, and she keeps acting like the Wolves that are born in New Moon (I can't remember her name). I say that's a good deed name for her, a little jab and she might like it because she really know what's she's doing at poking fun of each member and their elders with how foul mouth, but she says a lot of insults and stuff for shock value, and that kind of stuff can still work. If not, then i'm voting for

I would vote for Diehard, but that's a deed name for a Glasswalkers like us, and Isaiah it's going to be on trouble if he goes with other Get with that name, and surely the bitch of Harrow it's going to talk shit about him even after it was me Who send him away as their Alpha, but also she's going to talk much crazy shit to Ella's Garou family

Also like >>5579588 said we need to make some heavy fight training with all our Pack, Focus on Isaiah. Marley and Alex are quite there, but Ella needs to lose that lockdown mode she has when fights starts and Isaiah should start to beat our ass.

For the Amish girl, the pack eventually settles on Ella Clings-To-Virtue. Marley was the one who came up with that name and while she's worried that it might give others a poor impression of her, Alex tries her best to reassure her.

"Hey, if anyone thinks less of you because you stand by your principles, they're assholes and you shouldn't care about what they think. Everyone else will respect you for sticking to your guns. You're letting the world know that you've got integrity!"

Meanwhile, Ella is the one who thought of Alex Never-Lies and for the first time, the skinny Fury actually seems embarrassed. She was sure that you would choose something derisive or insulting for her.

"But I lie all of the fucking time!" No one can keep themselves from laughing at how flustered she is, not even Ella. "Come on, people will hear that name and think that I'm a fucking angel who can do no wrong!"

"So?" You're not about to let Alex get out of this one. "That just means that you'll get to enjoy the looks on their faces when the 'angel who can do know wrong' opens her mouth and starts swearing like a sailor. Besides, you never lied to us and that's what matters."

As for the Metis, the pack goes with one of Isaiah's ideas, which was Marley Speaks-Sense. The hairless boy is left looking a little bashful and he rubs the back of his neck as he considers his new sobriquet.

"I don't know, people will have a lot of high expectations when they hear that name. What if I suggest something dumb? I don't want people to trust what I say just 'cause of what I'm called."

"You haven't said anything stupid yet," you say in an attempt to comfort the Metis. "In fact, you made a lot of great suggestions over the past few days so as far as I'm concerned, you earned your name. We wouldn't have chosen it for you if you weren't so goddamn sensible."

Finally, there's Isaiah Still-Standing. This is another one of Marley's ideas. The young Get isn't that keen on it.

"It's not like I survived because of anything I did," he insists. "You guys saved my life. If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't still be standing."

"Bullshit." Alex refuses to let the kid talk himself down like that. "Don't you remember the stuff that you said back in that shithole? You were begging us to let you fight even though you were full of silver. You even refused to let us pull it out of you! It took some fucking coward shooting you in the back to bring you down and even then, you stayed alive long enough for us to bring you here. That's on you, not us. The Get should be honoured to have someone as tough as you in their ranks."

There's just one person who hasn't received their deed name yet.

You.

"Sam was pretty good with that rifle," Isaiah begins. "Maybe something like Deadeye could work? I don't think I saw him miss a single shot."
>>
"He missed plenty of times when that asshole on the roof started shooting at us." Of course, Alex is against the name that would make you sound like a badass. "I still don't get why he used a gun at all. He could've transformed into a killing machine at any time but it took two of us telling him that he was being a fucking moron to let go of that thing. Gun-Nut would suit him way better."

"I'm right here, you know."

"Ssh." The Fury presses a finger to her thin lips. "No talking while we decide on your new name, Gun-Nut." With a scowl, you refrain from speaking any further.

"Why not Calls-The-Shots then?" Isaiah seems less confident about his second idea. "It's got a double meaning; he's the leader of the pack and he's also fond of guns."

"Yeah, we get it." Marley isn't sure about it either. "It's clever but it would stop making sense if he ever ends up in a pack where he isn't alpha. Anyway, Sam doesn't just like guns. He loves travelling in metal boxes instead of his own two feet, he tinkered with technology at every opportunity and he worked with the herd whenever he could. I think Too-Human could work for him."

"I guess it's got a ring to it," Alex remarks. "What about those dumb plans that Sam comes up with sometimes, like that whole elaborate disguise scheme that backfired? He really seems to love his big ideas, so Pipe-Dream could work. Oh, or maybe Tryhard! I mean, we all know he tries way too hard to win at every fucking thing he does."

"Aren't those a little cruel?" Ella frowns. "Why not... Heeds-Wisdom or something like that, since he followed your advice most of the time?" She emphasises the word 'your,' instead of saying 'our.' Is it just you, or does she sound a little bitter?

"That could work, though some people might try and use that against him and say that he doesn't heed wisdom 'cause he doesn't do what they tell him to do." Marley scratches his head as he tries to think of an alternative. "Maybe Thinks-Twice could work instead."

"Doesn't that imply that he's indecisive though?" Isaiah furrows his brow, while he nurses his wounded arm. "I think that sends the wrong message"

The conversation continues for some time while you sit in silence, listening to all of the ideas that they throw around. After several minutes of this, the majority of your packmates finally settle on a single name. They go with...

>Deadeye.
>Gun-Nut.
>Calls-The-Shots.
>Too-Human.
>Pipe-Dream.
>Tryhard.
>Heeds-Wisdom.

>Too-Human

In WOD humanity is a powerful resource to be spent and hoarded. An excess of humanity is good. It means you are capable of creativity, transcendence, enlightenment, and change. The greatest horrors are committed by the self-righteous and there are none more self-righteous than humanity. BTW most Garou, mages, are kindred die because they get high on their own power and lack of capability to think like a human. We are a more significant threat and harder to kill because we are human.

Every time that one of your pack comes up with a new idea, someone else shoots it. There's only one epithet that they keep on coming back to, and that's Too-Human.

"Won't some people think less of Sam if he walks around with a deed name like that?" Isaiah isn't too sure about it.

"Yeah, some Garou might underestimate him," Marley admits, "but I don't think he would mind that. Sam's the kind of guy who would see that as an opportunity, not a burden." He's got a point. "Anyway, he's joining the Glass Walkers and I think they're the kind of tribe that would appreciate a name like that."

"I guess you're right." The Get rubs the back of his head. "The only other problem I can think of is that 'Sam Too-Human' sounds kind of dumb."

"It works way better with Samuel instead of Sam. 'Samuel Too-Human.'" Alex mulls over the sobriquet for a moment before she nods to herself. "I like it. Anyone got any better ideas?" No one has any other suggestions so after a few seconds, the Fury turns to you. "I guess we've figured out your new name."

"I wouldn't worry too much about whether it goes well with Sam or Samuel, since I won't be called that for much longer. I'm getting a new identity, remember?" Hopefully sooner rather than later. Though you've grown accustomed to the forest, you do miss the convenience of civilisation and your brief stay in Tennyson reminded you of all of the luxuries that you've had to live without. "Anyway, I think I can work with Too-Human."

With your deed names out of your way, you start talking about the future. You've passed your Rite of Passage, but you're not actually sure about what comes next. According to Marley, the sept leaves most Garou to their own devices. It's less of a strict military organisation and more of a loose network of like-minded individuals, all fighting for the same cause.

"Some packs watch over particular places, while others are specialists. We'll find our calling eventually." The Metis doesn't seem too worried about it. "If someone discovers something that they think falls under our jurisdiction, they'll pass on the news to us and we'll be expected to deal with it. On the other hand, if the high alpha doesn't think we're pulling our weight, he might call us in and give us an assignment personally. I've seen it happen a couple of times and uh, it's not something I want us to go through."

"So, they're just gonna kick us out and expect us to manage on our own?" Marley answers Alex's question with a shake of his head before he explains.

"The Garou of this sept aren't heartless. Anyone's welcome to stay at the caern, just as long as they don't spend their days lazing around and being a leech. It's not like any of us will be sticking around here anyway, since we'll be expected to learn from our tribesmen, beseech the spirits for Gifts and so on."

"I guess that means that we're gonna have to part ways for a while," you comment.
>>
"Yeah, but it's not like that's going to stop us from talking to each other. Alex can shove herself in our brains whenever she wants, so staying in touch should be pretty easy." Once again, Marley's got a point.

"I... admit I was kinda planning on ditching you guys and joining Delilah's pack once the Rite was over and done with," Alex says, looking a little awkward. "I'd feel like shit if I actually went through with it though. After everything we went through at Tennyson, I couldn't live with myself if I turned my back on you guys now."

"Wait, is that allowed?" Isaiah looks shocked and a little hurt. "Are Garou allowed to just abandon their packs like that? I thought that we were supposed to look after each other. The way that Harrower talked about packs made them sound like a second family."

"Sometimes the spark just isn't there and it's better for a pack to disband than try to work together when no one gets along. Some Garou don't even bother with packs at all." The Metis shrugs his shoulders. "As for us... I mean, I wouldn't call us a family but we get along well enough and we work well together. We've all got our flaws but we balance each other out. So if the rest of you are sticking around, so am I."

"Well, that's a relief. What about you, Ella?" Isaiah turns towards the blonde Child but she just stares at the ground for a while. When she looks up, her attention is focused on you instead of the Get.

"That depends," she says coolly. "Are you staying, Sam?"

Every head swivels in your direction and you have to spend a moment searching for the answer to that question. The Silent Striders originally appealed to you because you liked the idea of operating without a pack, of being independent and not tied down to the absurdity of Garou culture. Even though you're a Glass Walker, you could still go it alone. You might have helped them through the Rite of Passage, but you don't necessarily have to stick around. You could even join Sheepdog's pack, or find another group that isn't so inexperienced.

Where will you go from here?

>You will leave for Sheepdog's pack. You get on well with him, even if Talks-Fancy is a bit eccentric and Sees-Forest-For-Trees is an asshole.
>You will leave with the intention of finding a pack that isn't so amateurish. You want to work with Garou who know what they're doing.
>You will leave your pack and become a lone wolf. The less Garou bullshit that you have to deal with, the better.

Also, what pushed Ella to hate us so much? Was it all the stealing? Or just going with mostly Alex ideas instead of hers? I noticed Alex kind of has the tendency to give ideas and then blame us when they backfire.
>>
>>5581822
While we were pretty nice to her in the Caern, in the field we pretty consistently ignored her moral concerns and even forced her to use her abilities in an immoral fashion. And we sidelined her on that last part of the op. Add to this Sam's proclivity for beating women, and I get it.

>>Stick with this pack. Maybe you genuinely like them or maybe you think that you work well together. All you know for sure is that you're staying.
Honestly it'd be easier if we fucked off and found more like minded individuals in the Glass Walkers, but I like the challenge of trying to make opposing viewpoints work. If I'm honest if feel like making this group work is going to be harder too since most of us are going to completely different tribes. Meaning whatever we learn from those tribes might widen the social wounds in our pack. Though, like I said I'm here for it I'm just pointing it out.

"Yeah, I'm sticking around." That's not all you have to say. By this point, you're keenly aware that Ella is upset with you, so you decide to confront the issue rather than talk around. "And I hope you will too, Ella. I know you don't think I listened to you or appreciated your perspective but without you, we would've resorted to violence or theft way more often. Hell, if it wasn't for you, we probably would've failed outright. You helped all of us cling a little tighter to virtue." That last bit is a little cheesy, but you hope that it'll alleviate any resentment she has for you.

By the time that you finished, you can clearly see the ire in her bright blue eyes. The way that she looks at you isn't all that different from how she glared at Harrower, and you expect that she's about to launch herself into another furious tirade. More than once, she opens her mouth to speak only to think better of it and seal her lips once more.

After a few seconds of tense and uncomfortable silence, she eventually deflates and lets out a quiet sigh. Her anger evaporates, any rant that she had mentally prepared is abandoned and the subdued Amish flower that you're so used to returns. Indignation just isn't in her nature, even if it's the righteous sort.

"Fine," she says, with a voice that is little louder than a whisper, "but please, don't expect me to stoop to your level just because I'm staying." You're not quite sure what that's supposed to mean, but you won't pry. If she wanted to go into more detail, she would've done; you're just relieved that she's not leaving.

"I guess you were wrong, Marley; it looks like we're one big happy family after all!" Rather than allow the tension between you and Ella to linger, Alex seems eager to make light of it and move on.

"How can you say that? You were the one who was thinking of leaving us behind in the first place." Isaiah still seems a little upset by that revelation. You better not tell him that you were thinking of going solo as well. The Fury just rolls her eyes.

"Take it as a compliment. If I didn't like you jerks, I'd be long gone."

You talk among yourselves for a while longer, ruminating over the future and all of the opportunities that lie ahead of you. Since none of you can think of a field that your pack really specialises in, you decide to discuss locations that your pack could claim as territory and watch over. Alex likes the idea of Philadelphia, while you suggest Pittsburgh. Your mom would feel a lot better if she knew that you were nearby. Ella and Isaiah both have an interest in returning to Tennyson, but Marley points out that you should probably wait for things to cool down before you go back there. Pentex is probably swarming all over that city right now.
>>
A lot of ideas are thrown around but before you can settle on anything, you are interrupted by the return of Harrower. The time has come for the ceremony to begin. Once you have shared your deed names with her, she leads you back towards the central meadow where the rest of the sept awaits. There are almost a dozen Garou lingering on the sidelines, while Sheepdog, Delilah and Azalea stand before the great boulder-throne at the heart of the glade, where Gregor Pureheart sits. The gargantuan 'prince' looks as dazzling as ever, his white fur shining despite the overcast sky.

The den mother comes to a stop and kneels before the high alpha. You do the same; such displays of submission are humiliating and serve only to stoke your rage, but you have no desire to earn the ire of the Silver Fang.

>You gain 1 Rage. Your Rage is currently 5/10.

With a gesture from Gregor, Harrower rises to her feet and you follow her lead. She goes to stand at the head of the other judges in front of the rock while you remain in place, standing in a line. Once again, Harrower begins the ceremony by naming each member of your pack one by one, reciting your auspices as well as your heritage. Your deed names remain unsaid. The den mother goes on to speak of your deeds and everything that you achieved during your Rite of Passage. For the sake of brevity, she doesn't go into too much detail and only focuses on your primary accomplishments. Having severed one of the innumerable heads of the Wyrm, each of you have proven that you are true Garou.

"Still-Standing."

Isaiah freezes in a moment of shock and hesitation. It takes a baleful glare from Harrower for him to step forward. Accepting a clay bowl from Azalea with one hand, the den mother coats the other with the bloody red paint that the vessel contains. As she daubs a rune on each of the Amish boy's shoulders, she tells him that he is one of the Fenrir now, that Gaia is his mother and Great Fenris is his father. May his scars be many and may his death serve to delay Ragnarök.

"Never-Lies."

After Isaiah rejoins the line, Alex is the next to step forward. The den mother presents the bowl so that Delilah may stain her hand with its contents. Taking the girl's hands in her own, the older Fury paints a symbol on each of her palms while she claims that the skinny brunette has been chosen by Pegasus, much like Amazons of old. She has inherited their duty; until the day she dies, Alex must carry herself with passion and conviction and never allow those who would tarnish the beauty of Gaia to go unpunished.
>>
"Speaks-Sense."

Marley's turn. When he comes forward, Delilah allows Weeping Azalea to take her place. Once her hands have been smeared with the scarlet paint, she decorates each of the boy's cheeks with glyphs. Unicorn shall welcome the Metis into the Children of Gaia with open arms, as long as he remembers one thing; that there is more to war than violence. May he always remember what he is fighting for and never lose sight of goodness in the pursuit of victory.

"Clings-To-Virtue."

For the first time, there are a few murmurs from the onlookers when Ella steps forward, only for Azalea to paint the runes of the Children on her cheeks. The den mother introduced her as a descendant of the Fenrir, yet here she is being claimed by another tribe. One of the bystanders even takes it upon himself to make his displeasure known.

"Coward! Traitor! You would turn your back on your own blood?!"

She flinches a little at the insult but before the heckler can continue, Gregor Pureheart simply lifts a hand and the asshole falls silent. Azalea says the same things to her that she said to her son as she completes the finishing touches.

"Too-Human."

Finally, it's your turn. As you come forward, Azalea retreats and allows Sheepdog to take his place. This is the first time that he's heard your deed name and he seems to be struggling to keep a straight face. You're not sure if he's amused or proud of you. You are instructed to bare your forearms as he sets about daubing them with the ladder-like icon of the Glass Walkers. Just like all of the others, he says his piece.

"Cockroach may not be the most fearsome spirit, but he was here when Gaia was young and when She grows old, he shall still remain. This is because he adapts. He learns. He goes with the tide instead of against it, and the tide that sweeps across the world is that of humanity. He has found his place among the herd and so must you. You must learn their ways, draw upon their strength and make it your own. Only then will you be able to survive the apocalypse, like the cunning and maligned spirit that offers you his blessing."

Great. The others have earned the favour of mythical animals like Fenris, Pegasus and Unicorn, while you're stuck with fucking Cockroach. No matter how little you think of your tribe's patron however, you have earned his favour. You can feel a strange power spread through the sigils that have been painted on your forearms, a sensation that you recall from the night of your First Change, when you were fleeing through the forest. A new power is awakening inside of you, granted by the crafty Cockroach.

>You are now a cliath of the Garou Nation. Exert now grants you a +20 modifier on rolls that concern strength, speed and stamina.

>Here is a list of Gifts tied to your connection with Cockroach. At this point in time, you can only choose one of these Gifts.

>Diagnostics: You may spend 1 Will in order to gain a perfect understanding of how a piece of technology is broken and how it can be fixed. Any time spent fixing that piece of technology is halved.
>Hands Full of Thunder: You may now use Exert in order to gain a +20 modifier on rolls concerning ranged weapons. In addition, when in Glabro, you gain a +10 modifier on rolls concerning ranged weapons.
>Trick Shot: You may spend 1 Rage in order to bypass a roll when using a ranged weapon and automatically succeed, as long as you are not using the ranged weapon to directly harm a target. Examples of this include shooting the gun out of an enemy's hands or shooting a hole in a pursuing vehicle's wheel.
>Trigger Mechanism: You may spend 1 Will in order to telekinetically control a simple mechanism in the surrounding area, such as a lever, switch, handle, trigger, bolt, pulley, button and so on. This control lasts for as long as you remain in that area.
>Universal Interface: You may spend 1 Will in order to use any sort of computer to remotely operate any other digital device in the surrounding area, regardless of obstacles and despite any incompatibility. However, remote operation doesn't guarantee unrestricted access. For example, you may still need a password to log in.

These caern scenes have been so fucking good. I'm very happy our Amish flower is still here, both because she's cute and because her ability is incredibly convenient. UI might be better, but give me my BOOMSTICK

Man, I'm torn. Hands Full of Thunder is very tempting, but you never turn down telekinesis.

>Trigger Mechanism: You may spend 1 Will in order to telekinetically control a simple mechanism in the surrounding area, such as a lever, switch, handle, trigger, bolt, pulley, button and so on. This control lasts for as long as you remain in that area.

Remember people, simple mechanisms often control complicated ones, and complicated mechanisms are made out of simpler ones. Next time we fight pentex goons, all we have to do is pop the pin on one of their grenades, or stop them from being able to fire their guns. Lots of possibilities here.

I would like to point out that if you want to be cheeky with this particular gift, its entirely possible to switch on the safety of an enemy's gun with this or turn off most computers and smartphones from afar.

And depending on what you define as a 'simple mechanism', that may include the pins of a grenade on somebodies person.

I guess you could also lockpick the pins inside a lock too.

See? Same braincell.
>>
>>5583495
>>5583574
Thinking on it further, you could also manually control a car from afar- like turning the keys and shifting the gears to stop or start it. It could be immensely useful for breaking into cars or having one on the road turn into an impromptu battering ram.
>>
>>5583581
Yes, but does it KILL in and of itself? No? Then why should I vote for it?
>>
>>5583585
If you want an ability that makes you better at killing pick Hands of Thunder.
If you want an ability that provides you with utility and options for creative solutions, pick Trigger Mechanism.

I've got different priorities. Guns fills a specific role in combat, and that's in urban environments where fighting the only option but we can't afford to break the veil, or if close-combat isn't an immediate option. Also, for the full benefit of Hands Full of Thunder, you'd need to spend 2 Will, one to transform into Glabro and another for Exert, at a total of +30. Not bad, but worth precious Will.

>Think of it this way: You could use this Gift to press one particular button on a keyboard as many times as you like, but your control is limited to that single button. You could not use this Gift to press multiple buttons on a keyboard in order to type a message. Every button on the keyboard is a separate mechanism. Similarly, every pin inside of a lock is a separate mechanism.

>Using Exert spends 1 Rage, not 1 Will. It is also your primary method of spending Rage and by default, you are not able to use Exert when you use ranged weapons. His insistence on using an assault rifle during the raid on the institute is why Sam's Rage built up to the point where he was at risk of frenzying on multiple occasions.

>>5583831
>Whenever I say "the surrounding area," I'm willing to be pretty lenient. When you were raiding the institute, I considered the surrounding area to be the institute. As of the last update, I would consider your current surrounding area to be the central clearing of the caern. It's just the general location that you are in.
>If that's too vague for your taste, just consider "the surrounding area" to be anything within a hundred metres of where you're standing. If you're aware of a simple mechanism that exists within that range, regardless of whether you can currently see it or not, you can use Trigger Mechanism on it.
>I'd much rather be flexible and trust you guys to be reasonable than provide exhaustive definitions for every single phrase that I use.
>>
>>5583900
All of these abilities fit their characters nicely, so let's go through them and some uses.
>Ella gains Jam Weapon.
Similar in a potential use of Trigger Mecahnism, but by its very nature implies that its most useful against armed humans when battle is the only option. However, it has more practically since it renders weapons inert , unlike our simple ability to pull grenade pins or safety switches. Depending on how our Gift interprets a 'weapon', this could apply to anything designed or perhaps used to inflict harm it could renders traps, or impromptu weapons like cars inert too. We'll have to test it out honestly, see what the Gift's definition of a weapon are.

>Alex gains Breath of the Wyld.
Decent support ability against spirits, but potentially also against wraiths, mages, and especially kindred. Shoot- if we ever find any normal human allies, we could potentially ease them of the Delirium.

>Marley gains Brother's Scent.
Crap, and I wanted to draw eyebrows on him.

But seriously, this is a great infiltration ability, especially when scouting or disguising as the enemy. The only issue is that it belongs to Marley, who desperately needs more experience with the Herd before he can pull it off with any expertise.

>Isaiah gains Lightning Reflexes.
Fellow warrior. Eliminating a common debuff. Very nice.
>>
>>5583907
>In this instance, the definition of a weapon is a piece of technology that was designed with the intention of inflicting bodily harm or physical damage on a living thing. Guns, knives and traps count. Natural weapons such as claws, natural objects appropriated as weapons such as rocks and tree limbs and technology which is not intended to cause harm such as cars do not count.

It seems self-explanatory to me. She hit a critical threshold of shit-taking from Harrower for being weak and sensitive, and our refusal to follow her lead to instead behave a bit more "ruthlessly" has led her to believe we view her the same way. She's having a well-earned teenage rebellion phase, after a REALLY rough puberty, and now we're the most immediate authority figure in her life as her pack alpha.
>>
>>5584197
Maybe we should spare some time to discuss with the group our moral borders? Since we're a pack now it would be best to avoid things like this causing division.

It's like a switch has been flipped inside of your brain. Where there was once a spiritual void that you weren't even aware of, there is now the blessing of Cockroach. You are no longer who were even a minute ago; the change is so significant makes it feel like you have transitioned between binary states of being, as though as a zero has become a one. All it took was a silly ritual to transform who you are, to turn you from a nobody into a Glass Walker. The simplest alteration can cascade and change a million different things.

This is Cockroach's first Gift to you; a keen understanding of such basic and binary things, as well as a degree of control over them. All it will take is a thought from you to manipulate the humblest machines of the world, to make them dance between their twofold states. It's not much, but it's all you need. In the right circumstances, the press of a button or the pull of a trigger could be the difference between life and death.

By the time that you recover from your revelation, Sheepdog has finished his recitation. With a respectful bow of your head, you step back to join the others while the ceremony continues. According to the den mother, you are now cliath, the lowest rank in the Garou Nation. You have proven yourselves worthy of freedom and independence, to fight for Gaia as you see fit. Though it would be wise for you to heed the elders of your respective tribes, your futures are now yours to shape.

With the Rite of Passage drawing to a close, the den mother falls quiet and steps to the side. Gregor Pureheart rises to his feet and towers above the rest of the sept. Even if he wasn't standing on top of that great rock, he would still be a sight to behold.

"Once more, the ranks of the Garou swell and the army of Gaia grows!" Even in the High Tongue, his method of speaking is particularly archaic. Nevertheless, you can't deny that there is something regal and awesome about him, no matter how ridiculous he looks with that gargantuan sword of his. "Let this serve as a sign that the war is far from lost! May the Wyrm quail and may his minions weep, for when the apocalypse comes, the likes of these young heroes shall ensure our victory and balance shall return to Gaia once more! Now revel, Garou! Make merry and celebrate the accomplishments of these fine cliath!"

You've only been learning the language for a month and even though you're a quick learner, you struggle to grasp everything that he said. When his speech concludes though, the rest of the sept reacts with cacophonous cheering; those who wear more wolf-like forms howl their approval to the heavens. Rather than depart, Gregor reclines back against his boulder-throne once more. Apparently the prince has chosen to stay and oversee the revelry personally.
>>
Any sense of formality evaporates. A few diligent Garou depart from the glade to return to their duties, but the rest gladly take this opportunity to mingle and relax, if only for a couple of hours. Omar and Sheepdog even crack open a crate of beer, much to the chagrin of some more traditional werewolves. There's already a great deal of boisterous laughter and bickering, which leaves you feeling a little uneasy. Your head was buried in textbooks for most of your youth, so you're not really used to parties, especially not ones that are as rowdy as this.

"Maybe we should go," you suggest to the others, though you try to keep quiet. You're still in the presence of Gregor Pureheart and you don't want the neurotic Silver Fang to hear you speaking English. "It sounded like some of the Get aren't that happy with Ella's decision; who knows what they might do if we stick around."

"Aw, come on. This is a chance for us to enjoy ourselves for the first time in fucking forever and besides, they've got beer!" Alex has a hard time keeping her voice down. Thankfully, the revelry's loud enough that no one seems to notice your choice of language.

"More importantly, this is a celebration in our honour," Marley points out. "Some of the sept will want to speak with us and hear our story. If we don't stay, it could be taken as an insult."

"I guess," you mutter. "Isaiah, Ella, how do you two feel about this?"

The young Fenrir looks just as uncomfortable as you feel. "I wouldn't mind sitting this out," he sheepishly admits. "I don't really know any of these people and I'm starting to feel pretty light-headed." You're not surprised. If anything, you admire that he had the fortitude to remain upright for the duration of the assessment and this ceremony, despite all of the blood loss and bullet wounds.

"Ella?" You turn to the Amish Child next.

"It's your decision," she murmurs. Goddammit, how are you supposed to make amends for whatever you did wrong if she won't even tell you what she wants? Despite her words, she looks pretty anxious and out of place in this environment.

>You should all leave. Comfort and safety matter more than your reputation. Let the rest of the sept think what they want, you've got a pack to look after.
>You should all stay. This is your first impression, so you better make it a good one. From the sound of it, social standing is everything in the Garou Nation.
>You will stay, but the others can decide for themselves. As the leader of the pack, one of your responsibilities is maintaining a strong public image.

"Alright, anyone who doesn't want to stay can go. You've got a point though, Marley; I guess it would be pretty bad for our image if I don't stick around for the chitchat."

Unsurprisingly, the Amish duet decide to leave. The boy isn't in the condition to do much other than rest and as for Ella, you can only imagine that she would eventually be harassed by one of the Get. That leaves the Metis and the Fury to back you up as you attempt to mingle with the other Garou. It doesn't take long for a wild-haired twenty-something wearing nothing but torn-up jeans to approach you, with a cocky grin spread across his face.

"How did you earn a name like Too-Human? Harrower said that you were an Ahroun, so why don't you have a warrior's name? Are you some sort of coward?" You were expecting an encounter like this. You're about to explain the nuance of your sobriquet when Alex forcefully shoves the guy, as best as she can in her weedy Homid form.

"He needs no warrior's name," she growls back at the stranger. Even though she's had far longer than you to learn the High Tongue, her vocabulary is a little lacklustre and she stumbles a bit when it comes to pronunciation. "He killed more than anyone else in the pack, using the tools of man! He needs no Crinos, for he is Too-Human!"

That boast draws attention from a few other Garou and before too long, the puny brunette has drawn an audience. You and Marley end up on the sidelines, listening along with all of the others as Alex weaves her tales and exaggerates the pack's accomplishments. Your tailing of the Hampton & Holt track turns into a riveting chase scene and your departure from the institute becomes an intense game of cat and mouse with an elite sniper. The only time you and the Metis need to offer any input is when Alex struggles to find the right word, or when one of the crowd turns to ask you if she's telling the truth.

"She's called Never-Lies for a reason," is all that you say to those who doubt her. Alex is mostly just embellishing the truth and glossing over the embarrassing details. On the rare occasion that she does utter a falsehood, you don't dare call her out.

Partway through the Fury's retelling of the Rite, Omar wanders over to offer the three of you some booze. To him, the legal drinking age is irrelevant; you're adults in the eyes of the Garou Nation and that's all that matters. While you and Alex seize the opportunity, Marley just wrinkles his nose at the smell and politely declines. "I am Metis," he explains to you, "I regenerate in every form. My body would purge the poison long before it could influence me. Even if I wanted to, I can never get drunk."
>>
"Unless someone stirs the spirit of the liquor first," Omar corrects him a sly grin. "Once the soul of a substance has been roused with the right ritual, a Garou's healing cannot hope to stop it." Marley just frowns at this suggestion. He likely considers the idea of using magic in order to get wasted to be pretty wasteful.

Alex is still going by the time that you've gotten through a couple of cans, with half a dozen bystanders hanging on her every word. If nothing else, they seem to find her enthusiastic recollection to be charming and for that, you're grateful. It's a lot less work for you.

"You know, I always thought that Luna had screwed up when it came to Alex," Marley mutters to you under his breath. "She never seemed like much of a Galliard, but look at her now. I couldn't dream of being half the storyteller that she is."

"If there's one thing I've learned from Ella, it's that you shouldn't take this auspice stuff too seriously," you whisper back to the Metis. "Like, think of Alex as being a different side of the same coin. She might talk shit, but you know things. She might be good at amusing people with the crap she says, but you're the one who actually knows about Garou shit." That seems to make the Metis feel a little better about himself.

Unfortunately, Alex was bound to slip up at some point; she makes the mistake of mentioning one of Ella's accomplishments. She describes how the pack got peppered with bullets during the fight in the staff lounge, how this drove the Amish girl over the edge and led to her effortlessly slaughtering the security guards.

"Liar!" The accusation comes the same Fenrir who heckled Ella during the ceremony, a sandy-haired fellow clad in the traditional Amish shirt and suspenders. He doesn't look like he's much older than you. "Only a coward would betray her blood in favour of the Children! Where is she now?! If she does not even have the courage to face the sept, how could she ever had the strength to face the Wyrm?!"

I, for one, embrace the refinement of Garou culture. An insult to one of our pack members is an insult to the Alpha, and an insult to us by this fuck merits a fight.

Insulting Ella, a member of our pack, is an insullt to us.
Thank you Garou politics for letting me fight this asshole and make me look good

It's what Ella would want. Remember: one of the things that upset her was us brawling with Alex to let off wolf-stress. If she catches us beating the shit out of a dude "for her", she's going to leave the pack.

If she leaves because of one scrape between the lads in the name of honor, there's really nothing to be done. It's not Sam ruthlessly fucking up one of his own to let off some rage, it's just rewards for consistent disrespect.

He’s basically calling us liars and we don’t play that shit.

Ella will hate us for this, but Sam wouldn’t care about that right now.

the pack leader has a responsibility to defend the reputation of his pack. this guy is talking down the pack as a whole through targeting Ella. he's calling Alex a liar, Ella a coward, and by extension calling Sam a weak leader.

And Ella doesn't owe a cunt like this an explanation.

Now as much as I like pushing in the shit of those who insult our friends, i do wanna point out that this guy is probably Fenris, on top of that Isaiah is being inducted to said group could mean this is a consistent problem we have to do deal with . its not just about sticking up for our friends. garou put a lot of stock in honour. a garou who can be walked over is seen as weak and dishonourable. its actually better for our standing in the caern to stand up to this guy and lose then to let him talk shit consequence free.

Then when he answers,

I’m in agreement that we need to fight this dude, but we should provoke him into initiating combat so we can act in self defence, which Ella will find much more excusable.

"Take that back," you bark at the Fenrir. A few heads turn towards you at this surprising display of aggression. So far, you've been a quiet observer who has let Alex do all of the talking and to be honest, you're not sure what you're doing this. Maybe you're trying to stand up for your companions, maybe you're trying to make amends with Ella in your own way, or maybe you're trying to defend your own reputation as a leader. All that matters is that you're not going to let this guy run his mouth like this. "Say one more word about my pack and you will regret it."

"What are you going to do, shoot me?" The asshole's retort earns a chuckle from a couple of bystanders. Even Gregor Pureheart, who is still lingering on top of his throne, lets out an amused snort. The combination of Alex's stories and your deed name has already given the sept a certain image of you; you're the warrior who fights like one of the herd. "You stand no chance without your toys."

"I do not need any," you snap back at him. "I will give you one last chance to take back what you said about my pack. I do not want to humiliate you in front of the sept." A small part of you hoped that this would convince the heckler to back down, but he just grins. You're a cliath with no reputation, why would he be afraid of you?

"If you are going to brawl, do it properly," says the wild-haired stranger who first accused you of being a coward. "All contests between Garou must be overseen by the Master of the Challenge. Steelrender!"

That name belongs to one of the elders chattering by the meadow's edge, with little interest in your pack. You have no doubt that the older Garou have seen dozens of new recruits come and go over the years. As for Frederick Steelrender himself, he's a stocky man in his fifties with a shaven head and a wiry grey beard. He's the closest thing to a fat werewolf that you've seen so far, with the beginnings of a gut beneath his grass-stained wife-beater. As soon as he discovers why he is being bothered, he just rolls his eyes. You can only imagine how many petty disputes he has to deal with, if he has to judge every fight.

"No need to do anything special for a squabble like this," he grumbles. "Let us keep this traditional. Get into your war forms, both of you. No silver, no fetishes, no human toys, this is a fang and claw affair. No striking your foe when he's down and no tricks that might slow your foe's healing, I want you both to be fighting fit as soon as this nonsense is over. Everyone else, give them space!"
>>
Rolled 20 + 50 (1d100 + 50)

It doesn't take long for the two of you to rid yourselves of your clothes and shift into Crinos. Ironically, the heckler's war form is a lot like Ella's, massive and covered with a dense coat of thick grey fur. All of the bystanders back off to give you some space. Some of the sept are watching you with great interest, but a lot of them are just chattering among themselves. If you have to guess, clashes between cliath aren't anything unusual.

>You spend 1 Will. Your Will is currently 7/10.

"I beseech Gaia, the Garou and the spirits of this caern to heed this dispute between Too-Human and Skullcracker," Steelrender intones while you take your place opposite your opponent. "Let it be known that if Skullcracker is defeated, he shall refrain from speaking ill of Too-Human and his pack. If Too-Human is defeated, he shall refrain from disputing Skullcracker's words. These terms shall endure until a year has passed and should the defeated fail to live up according to them, let it be known that they shall be punished with the Rite of Ostracism."

You're not quite sure what the Rite of Ostracism is, but you aren't interested in finding out. You're only interested in victory. Locking eyes with Skullcracker, you wait for the signal from Steelrender. It doesn't take long for the old man to roar a single, guttural syllable.

"Fight!"

>You spend 3 Rage. Your Rage is currently 2/10.

As soon as Steelrender utters that word, Skullcracker comes charging right at you with a ferocious roar. The Fenrir hopes to get the upper hand by striking first and sinking his claws deep in your flesh, but that would require him to land a hit. All you have to do is duck to the side and rake your talons through his ribs as he barrels past you, transforming the werewolf's war cry into a shriek of agony.

You turn to face him long before your foe manages to stagger to a halt and twist towards you. His eyes are bulging with fury and any cockiness which he once felt has evaporated. As soon as you realise that he's taking you seriously, something inside of you changes. There's something about the hateful way that Skullcracker looks at you and the way that his fangs catch the sunlight. Your foe radiates a raw and implacable malice that you simply cannot match and your heart quails, your rage recedes. Instinct abandons you and you find yourself relying solely on your wits as he throws himself at you, full of rancour.

This time, he manages to hit you and the two of you go crashing into the floor. Before he manages to bury his claws in you though, you seize his wrists and struggle with the Fenrir for a few moments. Wrestling his weight off of your body would take more strength than you're able to muster without your rage, so you use your head. You smash your skull against your foe's, leaving him stunned for a vital moment, long enough for you to lash out with your fangs. You sink your teeth into his ear and manage it rip it clean off.

Skullcracker howls in agony as he reels back, clutching at the bloody stump on the side of his head with one massive mitt while he uses the other to try and push himself back to his feet. You refuse to give him the opportunity. Clambering on top of your opponent, you seize his bleeding head in your hands and smash it against the earth, again and again. Though the Get tries his best to shove you off of him, your rage has returned at this point and it won't accept anything less than absolute victory. Every time that his head strikes the ground, a couple of teeth come tumbling out of his mouth and his struggling grows weaker and weaker. It doesn't take too long before you hear the wet crunch of your foe's skull fracturing and with that sound, he falls still.

You rise to your feet and spit out his ear, to the boisterous laughter of some of the onlookers. As far as you know, the only damage you sustained was a slight bruise on your head and that was self-inflicted. As for Skullcracker, the Master of the Challenge goes to his side to make sure he's still alive. You're sure that the idiot's wounds will heal swiftly, but you're not so certain about his ego.
>>
>You gain 1 Will. Your Will is currently 8/10.

"Fuck me, that was great! I can't remember the last time Jake got his ass whooped so hard!" The wild-haired Fenrir seems particularly amused by your victory, but he makes the mistake of speaking in English. He only realises his mistake when Gregor Pureheart descends from his throne and begins to stride across the clearing towards him. "Forgive me, high alpha. I forgot myself for a..."

Before he can finish his sentence, the Silver Fang cuffs him with such force that the topless man goes toppling to the ground, groaning and clutching his head. The snowy-furred prince then turns towards you with a jovial laugh of his own, which you react to with a bow of your head. You have no desire to offend the ruler of this sept.

"An admirable performance, for one of such low birth! You have undoubtedly proven your strength today, Too-Human, in more ways than one. I wonder, would you be willingly to give me the honour of a duel? Do not fear, for I do not wish for anything other than a friendly bout. I shall even curb my strength, in order to give you a sporting chance."

You've got no idea what his intentions could be. Maybe he wants to put you in your place before you get any big ideas about usurping him, or perhaps he just wants to get a sadistic kick out of humiliating you in front of the sept. It's even possible that he is being genuine and he just wants the thrill of an entertaining fight, but it's hard to say.

>Turn down Gregor. Come up with some eloquent excuse, such as how you have no desire to fight someone who hasn't wronged you, or how it would be wrong of you to attempt to harm the ruler of the sept.
>Indulge Gregor. Refusing a superior's request sounds like a bad idea and besides, if you do well, maybe you'll impress him. This is an opportunity and you should make the most of it.

"It would be an honour," you reply with your head still bowed. The prince has proven that he is quick to anger, so refusing his request would be unwise. In addition, though a part of you feels offended that he is holding back, Gregor is in charge of this sept for a reason. If he went all-out, there's a good chance that he might just kill you by accident.

"Excellent! Another bestial laugh bursts from Gregor's maw. Perhaps if he wore a more human form, his mirth might sound like a well-mannered chuckle. In this monstrous shape, his laughter sounds downright unsettling. Once he has expressed his satisfaction with your decision, he turns towards the Master of the Challenge, who is still tending to the defeated Skullbreaker. "Steelrender, do you believe that your fellow Get will survive being vanquished by the likes of Too-Human?"

"Yes, high alpha. His wounds are healing as we speak, though I fear that his teeth will grow back somewhat..."

"Good. You shall have the honour of tending to my klaive while I fight." Without another word, Gregor lets go of his gargantuan sword and allows it to fall towards Frederick. The bald warrior barely manages to catch it before it crashes into him, though the sheer weight of the weapon almost has him toppling to the floor anyway. "Ready yourself, cliath!"

Though the Silver Fang isn't the tallest werewolf that you have seen, the confidence with which he carries himself makes all other Garou seem insignificant in comparison. The myriad talismans draped over his arm and throat sway in the breeze and clatter against each other like wind chimes, while his alabaster fur shines with the radiance of the sun and moon combined. He is glorious to behold, while you're just some nobody with a mottled coat of black and brown, stained with the blood of a loud-mouthed idiot.

Alex anxiously watches from the sidelines with wide eyes, while Marley looks particularly pensive. Sheepdog wears a particularly grim expression on his face. You're just glad that Harrower disappeared after the ceremony came to an end; you suspect that she would enjoy the sight of you getting trounced by Gregor.

Silence reigns in the glade as the two of you stand opposite of each other, sizing each other for what feels like an eternity. This is only disrupted when the high alpha glances towards Frederick and bares his fangs in an impatient snarl. The Master of the Challenge, suddenly snapping out of his reverie and realising what Gregor expects of him, roars that single syllable for the second time today:

"Fight!!"

We got a hit against Gregor, Skullcucker couldn't even get an honest blow against us. EZ choice for me.
>>
Might be planning too far ahead here but while we wait I'd like to discuss our future plans. I know some of the draw to being glasswalkers is that we get to be closer to or Ma, but do we really want to put her into more danger by setting up shop in the city she's living in? Not only that but wouldn't our packmates eventually find out about her too?
>>
>>5587872
We could set up NEAR her, or just visit sometimes.
>>
>>5587872
>>5587886
What anon said. We're simply going to operate close to her, not in the immediate area.
It'll be important to establish some things with her once we get back so there's no more bumps in the road.

Unless we're running crypto, I don't see how we can help our ma. Maybe selling silver from silver bullets?
>>
>>5587872
>wouldn't our packmates eventually find out about her too?
I wonder how they’d all react to that.
>Marley
Definitely annoyed that we’re breaching the veil, unless we at some point learn that so many normal human hunters know about the supernatural that one garou-aligned single mother is basically a non-issue.
>Isaiah
Might get pissed because he’s trying to fit in with the Get, but I doubt he’d murder her.
>Ella
Depends on whether we make up with her or not, I’d say.
>Alex
Would probably be annoyed on principle but have an immediate change of heart once she gets a taste of Ma’s outspoken, no-nonsense personality.
>>
>>5587900
Ella's entire thing is being very compassionate and not wanting to hurt or manipulate innocent people. She would absolutely jot begrudge us lying to spare our mom from being torn apart by werewolves.
>>
>>5587900
I'd say we're completely in the clear with Alex and Ella, even if she's kind of pissed at us she wouldn't hurt an innocent. I agree on Marley, he'd make fuss about it but as long as we pull our weight and do our duty he probably wouldn't snitch.

The only real X factor is Isaiah. He really wants to make it in the Get & the Nation as a whole and might get twisted by them to be more extremist about their values.
>>
>>5587904
I was more referring to the fact that we’re continuing to interact with our mother after our first change, thereby placing her at greater risk of harm. At that point I think Ella’a opinion of us would be the deciding factor. But you’re totally right that she wouldn’t take action against Ma, she’s too nice for that.
>>
Also, should we attend to our beaver problem after this?
>>
>>5587932
Yeah but we should probably get the pack together to do it
>>
>>5587932
Of course!

Tho I doubt those trees we planted are fully grown already

Just lurking, but you guys should ask Omar if that booze enhancing ritual could work on making makeshift molotovs more flammable.
>>
>>5587932

I’ve been waiting for weeks to fuck those guys up, of course.
>>
>>5587872
I for one, say we set up shop far away and diminish our ties. Sam has shown himself to be nothing but good at being Garou, and based on his enthusiastic acceptance of certain Garou principles I think it only reasonable to weaken ties to the past.

>You spend 1 Rage. Your Rage is currently 1/10.

The two of you rush at each other, all fangs and fury. You batter each other with your limbs, swatting and bashing at one another as you search for an opportunity to land a decisive blow. Unfortunately, your foe finds an opening first and it's no surprise; he's faster and stronger than you, if not outright superior in every way. An attempt to swipe at Gregor's eyes gets deflected, only for the Silver Fang to rake his claws across your collar bone before you raise your guard, narrowly missing your throat. Rather than cry out as blood blossoms from the wound, you allow the pain to feed your rage.

>You lose 1 Health. Your Health is currently 2/3.
>You gain 1 Rage. Your Rage is currently 2/10.
>You spend 1 Rage. Your Rage is currently 1/10.

You throw yourself at the prince, rewarding his successful strike with a flurry of claws. Again and again you lash out at your foe, forcing the Silver Fang on the back foot and to focus on deflecting your attacks. He balks at your onslaught and flinches as you lacerate his arms with your talons, which eventually leads to a breach in his defences that you gladly exploit. He drops his guard for just long enough for you to score a hit on his snout and leave a bloody gash on the high alpha's face. It's not much, but it's enough to show the sept that he isn't invincible.

>You spend 1 Rage. Your Rage is currently 0/10.

You're about to swat at Gregor once more when he batters your ears with a fierce roar. Suddenly, it's your turn to cringe when your opponent's fur starts to shine so brightly that it hurts to look at him. This assault on your senses causes you to stagger back while the Silver Fang lashes out, swiping at the air where you once were with one of his arms... or so you thought. You watch in horror as the limb suddenly grows as it arcs through the air, tripling in length from the elbow down. Gregor's snowy fur recedes and his hand fuses into a wicked point as what was once his arm transforms into a vicious, sword-like claw.

You thought that you had created enough distance to avoid any attack, but you didn't expect this. All you can do is gawk as Gregor's blade scythes through your midriff effortlessly, slicing your belly wide open and inundating your nerves with a deluge of pain. As you succumb to the pain and tumble towards the earth, you clutch at your stomach in a desperate attempt to keep your guts from spilling out. You hit the ground with a thud and everything goes black.

>You lose 3 Health. Your Health is currently -1/3. You are incapacitated and you suffer a minor battle scar.
>You gain 1 Rage. Your Rage is currently 1/10.

For a long time, there's nothing but oblivion. No light, no sound, no sensation, just nothingness. It's almost disappointing when the perfect void is disrupted by the sound of voices, the sight of sunlight and of course, the agony of your insides knitting themselves back together.
>>
You've got a lot of things to be happy about, you suppose. You managed to land a hit on the esteemed leader of the sept, you survived getting your ass whooped by him and while only one person cared enough to try and help Skulltaker when you defeated him, it looks like there's plenty of folks crowded around you.

"Thank fuck, he's still alive," Alex breathes a sigh of relief when she sees you open your eyes.

"Stay still," Weeping Azalea chides you when you try to move. "You need to rest, Sam. You were almost disembowelled." Despite her words, you manage to sit up for long enough to look down at yourself. Though you can clearly feel that your body is still recovering from the internal damage that Gregor inflicted, the external injury has already been undone. Where there was once a gaping rift in your belly, there is now just an ugly, hairless line of scar tissue trailing from the ribs on your right side to your hip on the left. Gnarly.

"Hey, when my mom tells you to do something, it's always wise to listen." Marley grabs you by one of your shoulders and pushes you back down, to lie on your back. You're not in the condition to resist.

"Where's Gregor..?" You barely manage to groan the words.

"He fucked off," Alex explains. "As soon as you keeled over, he said about something about how 'refreshing' that fight was, took his sword and left. The guy's fucking crazy." As insubordinate as she can be, the Fury is smart enough to whisper that last bit. She doesn't want to be overheard talking shit about the high alpha.

"That was a hell of a show," Sheepdog comments with a grin on his face. Omar and Salazar are with him, along with a few other bystanders. You've drawn quite the crowd, though you suppose you shouldn't be surprised. It's probably not every day that a newbie manages to land a hit on the big cheese himself. "I think it's safe to say that no one will be badmouthing you after what you just did, Sam."

"Yes, it was quite the performance," the Uktena comments. The Mestizo doesn't seem impressed with your achievement. If anything, all of the violence seems to have gotten him a bit anxious. "It could even be considered commendable. But while it was a joy to watch the latest batch of youths come of age, I should get going. My tribe will be interested in learning what I've been up to."

"Hang on." Even speaking is painful right now, but you're not going to let him run off that easily. "You owe me, Salazar. I got you that mask, didn't I?"

"Yes, and I repaid the favour by offering you a chance to join my tribe." You saw the look on his face when you chose the Glass Walkers instead; he was relieved. If you did accept his offer, you would've landed the Ragabash in a pile of controversy. "Look, Sam. I appreciate what you did but let's not make a transaction out of this. You have a friend in the Uktena, isn't that enough?"
>>
Is it enough?

>You won't ask anything else of Salazar. You have his good will and that's enough. You shouldn't squander it by making demands of him.
>Ask him to return the mask once he's finished studying it. You were the one who retrieved it and you might be able to make use of it somehow.
>Ask him to teach you that trick which allows his clothes to meld with his body, instead of being ruined. You're sick of wardrobe malfunctions.
>Ask him to help you acquire a new Gift. As a Uktena, he should specialise in spirits and have no trouble coercing one into granting you its strength.
>Ask for his assistance with the beaver business. You've got a score to settle with those spirits and Salazar might be able to lend a hand with that.

Like hell he has. He is literally too human. The only garou thing he's good at is excessive violence.

Don't mistake his pragmatic use of human technology and society for a commitment to humane principles.

I personally like the title too-human. Do not fear the monster that thinks itself is invincible. Fear the monster that remembers it can die, knows it's no longer human, and accepts itself as a monster yet is still able to think and act human.
>>
Btw in WOD it does not matter what you are. The more powerful you become the less human to become. Whether it is the hunter amassing kills, the mage ascending the ladder, the vampire living longer, etc... As long as you don't get killed you will inevitably slide down into the darkness.
>>
>>5587979
>Ask him to teach you that trick which allows his clothes to meld with his body, instead of being ruined. You're sick of wardrobe malfunctions.
"Then as a friend can I at least learn how to keep my clothes from ripping up? The weather's fine now, but if I'm bare ass naked in the winter, oof."
>>
>>5588004
Aren't there like...vampire saints? Or something? I mean, I'm not going to question this too hard I just know a little bit about this setting from friends. If that's what's supposed to happen then im sure it'll happen at some point but that doesn't blame we can't try everything in our power to hold on to our humanity.
>>
>>5588011

So you are referring to humanity 9 or 10 vampires which are basically just people with a health condition at that point. The higher your humanity the weaker you are in combat but the more human you get to be i.e. less sunlight damage less, less need blood , can eat food and drink, and look less like a corpse.
>>
>>5588011

Those vampires also tend to be very very rare. How rare? About as rare as an awakened mage.

I also like this plan to stay relatively human. Not like it's compromising our effectiveness too much so far... And we're a teenage bookworm from Pennsylvania, not Goku or something. Why be obsessed with maximizing combat ability for honour-duels above all else?
>>
>>5588046
>Why be obsessed with maximizing combat ability for honour-duels above all else?
Because it's way more interesting and socially rewarding than normal human shit, and is biologically intuitive to him? It's not implausible in the slightest for Sam to lean into being a werewolf (within reason
>>

Also not unintuitive for a guy named Too-Human who grew up human and joined the most typically urban and urbane sect to like normal human shit.

Guys I just figured out why we took the gift we did. Think about it. We can use it to open doors, loot containers, and to deactivate safety procedures i.e. cause things to explode such as chemical containers.
>>
Also, you would not believe the kind of bullshit gifts werewolf has for glass walkers. At the higher levels, their abilities are less powerful than other tribes, but they have more gift options than any other tribe. I'm talking about emerging from someones cellphone you called (matrix(, turning all technology in an area alive (allspark transformers), physically harming an enemy through destroying their bank account, and calling on debts from past lives, sniping someone in the real world from the umbra, and curving bullets, and talking to the city.

Rank 2 Glass Walkers Gift

The Glass Walker convinces money spirits to change their denomination. the coin or note simply metamorphoses into the appropriate denomintation. Money spirits teach the Gift.

Source: Tribebook: Glass Walkers (Revised)
>>
Oh yeah, I misspoke earlier. Glass walkers have more possible gifts than any other tribe except Black spiral dancers. BTW get of Fenris have almost the least gifts out of any tribe that is not extinct or purged. They are literally only good at fighting and if they misuse their gifts they get punished hard. That and other stronger mostly lead to them dying, risking anger ancestral, or self-mutilation.

"Yeah, and friends help each other. You could at least teach me that trick with the clothes, so I don't keep on ruining mine." Speaking becomes easier for you with every word that you say as your insides repair themselves. It doesn't take too long before the only pain that remains is the dull ache of your new scar.

>Your Health is currently 3/3.

"Do you even know what that would take?" Farsight Salazar's gregarious nature has vanished. Now he just seems annoyed. "It's so much more than just a trick, it is a ritual. You would need to learn all of the words, the glyphs, the gestures... Samuel, if you want me to actually teach you and not just leave you with a bunch of instructions that you would undoubtedly mess up, this will take days."

"He's got days," Sheepdog tells the Uktena while you shift back into your human form and throw your clothes back on. "It'll take a little while for my tribesmen to get Sam's new identity ready. If he's going to be a Walker, I want to make sure that he's got his shit in order before I show him the ropes. That means you've got all the time in the world to teach him, Salazar."

You don't have a problem with this. A few more days at the caern will give you plenty of time to learn Salazar's ritual and more importantly, put those fucking beavers in their place.

"I suppose that means that I will have to endure the hospitality of the Get for a while longer," the Mestizo mutters petulantly. "Fine. I will remain long enough to teach you the practice of talisman dedication. Once that is done, we shall be even and neither of us shall owe the other anything. Have I made myself clear, Samuel?"

"Yeah, I got it." For someone who said that he didn't want to make a transaction out of this, Salazar sure is treating this arrangement like a business deal. "Thanks."

Much to your relief, the remainder of the celebration isn't too eventful. A lot of the bystanders who were previously uninterested in you are eager to introduce themselves and congratulate you on your performance against the high alpha. Most of them belong to the Get of Fenris and have names like Soulflayer, Shadow's-Foe and Heartsmasher. In fact, outside of your pack and a handful of visitors, almost the entire sept seems to be composed of Fenrir. Harrower taught you that this caern belonged to her tribe until recently, but she never went into any depth about the history of the place. How did someone like Gregor end up in charge and open up the sept to the rest of the Garou Nation?
>>
"He took over a few years before my Change," Sheepdog says when you ask him that question. "If Jasper was here, he could tell you the full story. All I know is that one day, Gregor turned up and earned the old leader's trust. He served as his advisor for a couple of years until one day, the old alpha declared the Silver Fang his heir and killed himself. I'm not surprised you weren't told about this, since it's still a sore spot for the older Get. A lot of their finest died challenging Gregor for his position."

You've even earned the respect of Jacob Skullbreaker and his wild-haired comrade, Ironhide Pete. Apparently they're both from Ladburg just like Ella and Isaiah, but neither of them seem particularly Amish in any way. They're just boisterous assholes who value strength and bravery above everything else and who will do anything to prove that they have those two traits in spades. You can't help but be worried for Isaiah; is this the sort of person that he will become? More importantly, will he even last long enough among the Get to learn anything from them?

Once the two Fenrir have moved on, you confer with Marley and Alex.

"We didn't call him Still-Standing as a joke, Sam. He's tougher than he looks. I mean, he kicked your ass plenty of times back when we were training." The Fury just shrugs off your concerns. "You should relax, I'm sure he'll be fine."

"We're going to be spend time with our tribes for a reason," Marley explains. "This is a chance for us to learn different skills, connections and perspectives. If we stick together all the time, we'll just end up as dull and uniform as a bunch of Weaver-spirits. Plus, if the Get of Fenris had no value, they would've gone extinct as a tribe long ago. I'm sure that they'll be able to teach Isaiah something useful."

>Let Isaiah stay with the Get of Fenris. Alex and Marley are right, he might learn something useful.
>Take Isaiah with you instead. You don't want him to get hurt or become a Get meathead.

Gotta let Isaiah mingle with the clan. It's what he wants and we shouldn't stop him.

Isaiah is tough, and he has his faith in God to lean on when his pack is away. I think that he'll do well for himself- although Sam should consider training harder if he doesn't want to be usurped.

Does exercise as a human translate to exercise for our other forms? If we grow stronger as a human would we grow stronger in our war-form? This is the question I ask with wild animals- how strong would they be if they exercised professionally.

I don't really care about being top-dog, honestly. If Isiah wants the spot and can beat us, have at it. We only took it one to keep our pack organized for the rite, right?

>He wants to pass on being Alpha
Miss me with that anon. I want to conquer the world of the Garou, not kowtow to freaks and fools who presently run it.
>>
>>5589342
From what I understand, being a freakish fool is the only way to get properly, mystically swole enough to be in charge, anyhow, right? Let's not be alpha or beta, but sigma, and skip this weird knotted-dick measuring contest nonsense to just be an effective cybershaman ecoterrorist.

a pack leader isn't a tyrant who can dictate the day to day life of his pack mates

Or whatever he wants to do, really. It’s his choice.

In the end, they're right. No matter how much you dislike the Fenrir that you've encountered so far, you should let Isaiah mingle with his tribe. If he didn't want to become Get, he could've refused to join them like Ella did. Besides, maybe you're just prejudiced against Skullbreaker and Ironhide because they remind you of the jackasses you had to deal with at high school. You do your best to discard your worries and enjoy this little party for as long as it lasts.

It doesn't take long for the older Garou to depart and resume their duties. Even the other cliath who don't have any serious responsibilities to attend to eventually wander off, once they've had a few beers. The only ones who linger are the werewolves who inducted you into your respective tribes. Alex offers a wave and a chirpy farewell as she goes with Delilah, while you and Marley join Sheepdog and Azalea in a search for the Amish duo.

It doesn't take long for you to find them at the forest's edge, looking over the fields of Ladburg. You imagine that they have mixed feelings about the village where they were raised, now that they know it's little more than a breeding ground for werewolves. When you ask them what they were up to, Isaiah shrugs and says that they were just talking. Ella stays quiet and almost looks a little guilty about something.

However, she becomes a little irritated when she discovers all of the brawling that you took part in. While Isaiah is impressed when Sheepdog tells the story of how you effortlessly kicked Skullbreaker's ass and even managed to land a hit on the prince, Ella seems displeased that you indulged in so much unnecessary violence. Noticing this, the young Fenrir tries to help her see it in a more positive light.

"Come on, he stood up for you when you were being badmouthed. Shouldn't you be grateful for that?" There's a little hostility in the way that he speaks to her. What were they talking about before you turned up?

"I didn't ask for anyone to defend me," Ella almost snaps in return. "I don't want to stoop to the level of the rest of the Garou, especially not the Get." Isaiah scowls when he hears those words, which causes her to cringe. Her expression of remorse returns. "Look, the rest of you can do whatever you want. I'm not about to stop you from doing anything but please, don't use me as an excuse for violence or drag me into it. Is that really too much to ask?"

Thankfully, before the situation gets even more uncomfortable, Azalea suggests that Ella should join her and Marley, as they're about to depart for New Hope. It's a little tourist town not that far from Philadelphia, where the Children of Gaia keep their kin and meet to discuss tribal matters. While the Amish girl follows her lead, the Metis lingers long enough to reassure you.

"I'll try and talk some sense into her, Sam. I'm sure she'll come around eventually."
>>
You're not so sure. As the Children depart, you're left feeling annoyed and helpless. It almost seems like Ella is searching for excuses to be angry with you at this point. How the hell are you supposed to work with someone like that?

>You gain 1 Rage. Your Rage is currently 4/10.
>You should've gained double the Rage in >>5587977 due to being in Crinos, so that's why it has jumped so much since the last Rage update.

"And here I was thinking that I have a hard time with Sees-Forest-For-Trees," Sheepdog says with a bit of a grin. "You've really got your work cut out for you, Sam."

"Thanks, I didn't notice." It's impossible for you to keep the sarcasm out of your voice.

Anyway, your fellow Walker is currently staying with Esther, the Amish woman who provided refuge for your mother while her new identity was being prepared. When you're ready, you're welcome to head down that way and join him there. Sheepdog even offers Isaiah a bed there, since he's not in the condition to rest in the wilderness of the caern. It's an offer that the blonde Fenrir gladly accepts.

Once the two of them depart, you're left on your own. It's pretty late in the afternoon by now and rather than pester the Uktena about the ritual that he promised to teach you, you decide to journey into the Umbra instead. You've got time to spare, so why not deal with an unresolved issue that has been lurking in the back of your mind for ages?

The beaver problem.

>You spend 1 Will. Your Will is currently 7/10.

After journeying through a foetid pond that you found in the forest, you emerge in the caern's vibrant reflection. A short trip through the otherworldly woodland soon takes you to the edge of the rushing river that the rodents call home. Along its banks, many of the trees that still stand carry obvious signs of damage. Patches of bark have been stripped away from their trunks and thick sap oozes from wounds that have been gouged in the wood. Unfortunately, it's difficult to tell how recently this harm was inflicted, since you're not exactly an expert on the subject of trees.

>Find the Child of Black Birch and try to learn more about the situation from it, though it's likely biased.
>Find the beavers and try to talk with them. Perhaps this time, they will listen to what you have to say.
>Shift into Lupus and attempt to sneak up on the beavers before they can flee. (This will spend 1 Will [Shapeshift] and require a dice roll.)
>Shift into Hispo and try to herd as many as you can away from the river, ripe for slaughtering. (This will spend 1 Will [Shapeshift] and require a dice roll.)

Just to check if the damage is recent.
Then we can head out to the dam to burn it to the ground

Ya know what I'll change my vote to this.
>>
I say we should

>Search for the trees we planted with the team
>If they're fully grown and there's no sign of beavers taking them, go talk with Child of Black Birch
>If in fact, the beavers decided to ignore our warning, turn into Crinos and crash into the walls of the fortress and fuck things up

We aren't going against a timer, we can see if the beavers actually listened to us or face consequences. And if someone still wants to be diplomatic we can still try and intimidate them to learn why they didn't listen

I’m 99% certain the beavers have been fucking around but we should verify first.

Let’s find him and make it clear that we came back to keep our word and if there’s still a problem, we intend to fix it free of any further charge. We can examine the situation and check if further action is necessary.
