You are a young Greek guy, living his life like any other Greek like him does.
You wake up this morning and go to the kitchen to eat the breakfast your mom made for you. It is delicious as always.
Once you are done, you think of how you’d like to spend your day. Since you don't have a job, you have no responsibilities and are free to spend your time as you please.

Do you:

>Take a walk outside
>Laze around your room
>Hang out with your pals
>Go to the gym
>Write-in

>>
You decide to go to the gym.
Though your father has paid your subscription, you haven’t really been going consistently. You decide that today is as good of a day.
You enter the area, say good morning to the staff and are about to start.

How are you going to train today?

>Treadmill, gotta keep up the cardio
>Good ol’ fashioned dumbbells
>Channel the spirits of your sailing ancestors in the rowing machine
>Leg press for strong legs

You decide to use the rowing machine.
Your ancestors used to row on their boats for thousands of years. They rowed to travel. They rowed to defend. They rowed to conquer. They rowed to live.
The strength needed to accomplish these feats was no joke.
Although this machine is but a mere imitation, it could give you a small taste of what your ancestors must have gone through.
But then again, why would that matter to you? It’s not necessary for you to go through such hardships and you are grateful for that.

You start adjusting the weights. Do you:

>Take it easy and go lightly. No reason to tire yourself out.
>Go with a weight you can handle. Should give you safe and steady improvement for your muscles.
>Go above your limit and put more weights than you’ve ever tried. It’s definitely the riskier choice, but if your ancestors went through way worse, then why couldn’t you?

You decide to go moderately. You pick only 60 kg, something that you are confident to do but also still challenging enough to help build muscle.
You begin to row. And row. You keep doing that until you completely immerse yourself, and then you row even more. You become fully immersed in both body and mind.
For a moment, you gain a vision of your ancestors. An unbroken line of proud pureblooded Greeks, their spirits feel as if they are manifesting within your body. The trance is so great that you forget where you even live, but then you remember.

You live in:

>Athens, the capital city
>Thessaloniki, capital of Macedonia, named after Alexander the Great’s sister
>Sparta, the city of warriors
>Patras, a town on the tip of the Peloponnese
>Heraklion, the biggest city in Crete

You are a Cretan. You come from a proud lineage of kings and warriors. From a young age you have learned the ancient ways of the gun from your forefathers, and have swore to do whatever it takes to protect your clan.

After you are done from the gym you start to get hungry. Where do you go to eat lunch?
>Eat with your parents
>Call your friends to eat some gyros together

Also, who are you exactly?
>What is your name?(must be Greek, or at least sound Greek)

Alright there are two options as of right now:

>Gyros with friends and you are Antonis Galifinakis
>Lunch with family and you are Punchiteles Testikickinius(Pantsitelis Testikikakis in modern Cretan)

If there aren't any more answers or supports for either one then I will make a roll between the 2 by the end of the day.

Regarding the quest, although its technically a modern setting, I may include some anachronisms and innacuracies since it seems people are interested in old/ancient stuff. How and how much exactly is yet to be seen

When you moved with your family to the big city, were worried that you wouldn’t make friends there. But you’ve quickly made some good friends. You decide to call Tasos and Kostas to get to your local gyros shop. Tasos gladly came, but Kostas wouldn’t make it since he’s employed now. You don’t know the specifics of his occupation and don’t really care. You’re just disappointed that he couldn’t make it.
As you are eating with Tasos, you’re catching up with each other. Granted, Tasos didn’t any noteworthy news, but you told him about your enlightening experience from the gym.

“Are you serious man? You’re telling me that you were so focused on the rowing machine that you felt your ancestors’ spirits? You sure you didn’t just experience a workout high or something?”
“Yes, believe me or not that’s what I experienced. I’ve felt workout highs before. This was nothing like it. I even forgot where I am and who I was!”
Tasos pauses for a minute, deeply in thought.
“Well, it’s not like I think it’s impossible. I heard similar things happening. Maybe the church would know about it, or maybe your parents would? They are pretty uh, how do I say this… old-fashioned? Set in their ways? Backwards? Rural? No offence really.”
If he wasn’t your friend, you would’ve strangled him right there on the spot. Well, you probably wouldn’t, but friends or not, hearing a city slicker talk carelessly about your clan as if they know anything about your ways of life, even if they don’t know any better, makes your blood boil.
“Uh Antoni, are you ok? I can see your veins on your head, and they all look like they’re about to burst.”
You take a moment to recollect yourself.
“Yes, I’m alright.”
“Well you looked like you were about to strangle me haha.” Tasos nervously joked.
“Sorry if I offended you somehow”
“It’s fine, really. Don’t worry about it Taso.”
“…Well then, while I did say you could investigate it further, I don’t think that’s necessarily a good idea. What is it that you said, that you want to live a worryless life or something? Well I don’t think digging through this incident would help. How about we forget about it and play a game? It’s been quite some time since we played tavli(backgammon).”
Tasos is right. Is it really wise to investigate this further? You are content with your current life, there is nothing more you could ask. Is satisfying your curiocity really worth risking it?

>Go to your parents
>Go to church
>Play some tavli with Tasos

You aren't sure whether pursuing this vision is worth it. For the time being, you decide to take up Tasos' offer to play tavli with him. It might help you clear your mind.

After the game ends, evening will be nearing, and Tasos will be heading back to his place. What do you plan to do then?

Wait what? You thought you were just rusty at tavli but still pretty good otherwise. Turns out you almost forgot all the rules!
"You're not supposed to put that here, wait for your turn, no you can't reroll right now" Tasos spent more time correcting you than actually playing the game. Your luck wasn't great either. Even though you were like a complete baby that barely knew how to babble, Tasos still displayed tremendous patience for you even though it was greatly time consuming. This was one of the qualities you truly admired about him.
Needless to say, the game ended in a decisive Tasos victory.
"Well then, I hope you remembered at least the basics. Whoa, it already got dark outside. Guess time passes fast when you're having fun."
He had fun? Is he serious?
"I was thinking of taking a stroll around the city. Would you like to come?"
"I'd like to, but you know how my grandma gets when I'm late at night."
"But it's not even midnight yet."
"Really? I guess the days are starting to get shorter again haha. I don't think my yiayia cares about these details so I'd better get going now. Take care Antoni.”
"Bye bye Taso"

Heraklion. The biggest town in Crete. It has been about 12 years since you’ve moved here from the countryside with your parents. Now that you think about it, what was the reason for that? Is this yet something else you’ve forgotten, or they’ve just never told you? It would be nice to revisit your old village. You might bring this up once you get home.
It’s not like you’ve completely acclimated to this city. Despite also being Cretan, the city dwellers share a different culture from you. They’re certainly more anxious when it come to guns for one.
As you walk through the city, you start thinking of those who came before you. Your ancestors must’ve roamed this island for thousands of years like you did. But who were they really? Of course, you knew for a fact that your lineage is one of unbroken pure Hellenism, but who exactly were they? Could it be that somewhere down the line, your bloodline hosted many great heroes? Probably unlikely, as there isn’t really anything noteworthy about your family as far as you know. You are an Average Greek Man after all.

Suddenly you start feeling like you are being followed. There is a man who happened to be going through the same path as you are. Initially you just wrote it off as a coincidence, but as time passed you grew anxious of him. Is he after you?

>Ignore him, you’re probably just being paranoid.
>Confront him. Whoever he is he should have a good reason as to why he’s tailing a stranger suddenly.
>Start running away as much as you can. Whoever he is, he’s not worth dealing with.
>Go to a crowded area like a tavern. Should discourage him from getting any funny ideas.
>Write-in
>>
I'm curious about the gun detail.

>Confront him in a friendly, confident way, but ready to go full Pankration if needed.

We should checkout our home village later & become a disciple of the Bloatlord, Kyriakos.
>>
You decide to confront him in a friendly, confident way but also be prepared at any moment to throw down punches if things go sour.
"Hello sir! I noticed that you've been heading the same way as I am for quite some time. Could it be that we live close to each other?"
"No we don't. I was just following you." The stranger nonchalantly answered.
His answer shocked you, but you tried not to show it, though you unconsciously adopted a more defensive stance, ready to deploy the Galifinakis school of Pankration you’ve inherited from your forefathers. Loads of questions raced through your mind. What is this man after? Is he after your family?
“Why? Who are you?”
“You’ll soon find out alright. For now, tell your dad that the Ponirakides are back”
“Ponirakis? Is that your surname?”
“Yup.” The stranger said as he was leaving.
You are standing here dumbstruck. Instead of having your questions answered he just raised more.

You watch him as he walks away.

>Get to him. You aren’t done yet, he still has a lot to answer.
>This is too much to worry about for a single day. Go back to your home and rest. Maybe your dad will know what’s this all about.
>Write-in

>>5792989
Basically Crete, especially the rural parts, has a big gun culture.

Unfortunately, Kyriakos lives in Kavala but meeting him isn't out of the question. Greece is a small country after all.
>>
Interesting stuff QM.
>Follow the man for a bit & ask if he & your father are friends. Get a good look at him so you can give a description. Then head home.

I have a feeling we have a blood-feud with this guy we don't know about.

You follow the stranger as he's leaving.
"Are you and my father friends?"
As he turns around you take a good look at him. Though his greying hair betrays his middle age, his beard is pitch black, as are his clothes. Despite his advanced age, his body still looks like it's in top shape.
Even as you ask him that question, his expression still remains neutral, as it was throughout all of your conversation.
"Quite the opposite."
"Enemies then?"
He scoffs, still retaining his expression.
"Let's just say that we have a bit of a family matter going on."
"What do you plan to do?"
"Figure that out yourself." He said as he was leaving.
A rage started swelling inside of you.
"Wait a moment! You can't just stalk a guy, tell him his family are enemies and just leave! I demand an explanation!"
"To be honest, I was planning to beat you up, but if you keep insisting then I might just give you a whooping."
So that's what it was all about? You were prepared for a fight from the start, but can you really take that guy? Muscles aside, he gave the impression that he has more than enough experience in actual combat. But caution be damned, this guy essentially threatened your family. Are you really going to let him get away with this?

>Let it go. Going back home and reporting to your dad would be the wisest decision.
>Try and whoop his ass(roll 1d10)
>Write-in

>>5797484
Your family is quite traditional so they don't really like those groups in general. As for the Man himself I'll leave thatfor the readers to decide.
>>
Let's go the middle route & ask what our father did to earn his enmity. If he provokes us further we'll challenge him here & now.
>>
“What did my father do to earn your enmity?”
“You don’t need to ask me to learn that.” As he said that he walked faster away from you and disappeared into the crowd.
Trying to get more info out of him left you with more questions than answers.

You walk home, making sure nobody was following you on the way.
“You are late. Your mum is already in bed. She cooked you dinner. Or did you already eat with Tasos too?”
“Oh no I only ate gyros in the afternoon with him.”
“Make sure you eat something other than gyros from time to time eh? Anyways, I’ll also be going to sleep soon. Make sure to get sleep as well.”
You think of asking him about your previous encounter, but is it really the time? After all, tomorrow is also a day.

>Eat dinner and go to sleep. Leave any issues you might have for the next day.
>Ask your dad about the encounter you had right now.
>Write-in

>Ask now
Best not to put off something that could involve danger for the family.

“Dad, when I was walking home, there was a man following me. When I asked him about it he said he was our enemy? Who was that guy? Do you know him?”
Your dad’s expression turned serious. “…did he tell you his name?”
“No but he told me his surname. I was Ponirakis.”
“I see…” he looked like he was deep in thought.
“Sit in the couch. I have a long story to tell you.”

“So what is this all about?”
“Us and the Pinorakides have a millennia old feud. You see son, I always told you that we are an average Greek family, and-“
“That’s not true isn’t it? There is something about us that’s clearly different from the average family, and this feud is a clear indicator.” You interrupted him.
“What? Of course not! We’re just like any other Greek family! There isn’t anything out of the ordinary about us. Do you really thing family feuds are something unique to us? Now, if you were to compare the average Greek family to the average barbarian one, then yes there is a clear difference.” He poured himself a glass of water.
“So where was I? Right, so our family, just like any other Greek family, has a lineage running back to antiquity, if not even further down the past. In our case, the earliest records of the Galifinakis family runs back to when Crete first developed civilization. But the main difference between us and other Cretan families were that…”
His expression became pained. As if that what he’s about to say would reveal that everything you thought you knew about reality was a lie.
“…We… were not from Crete originally.” You are shocked.
“A-are you serious father?” You hoped with all your heart that what he was saying was only just a bad joke.
“Completely serious my son. Our family traveled to Crete from Laconia, and settled there. This is the truth my son, no use running away from it. Although we came much earlier than those fithly Sfakians, the fact that non-Cretan blood flows through our veins is undeniable.”
“It’s just, a lot to process…”
“I know son, that’s exactly what I felt when I first learned of this. Just be glad that we came from Sparta and not Cyprus, or even worse, Athens.” He smiled.
“I guess when you put it that way…”
“Thankfully, our clan’s warrior spirit was quickly distinguished by the locals, and we became the guards of the king of Crete himself. But not everyone was welcome to us. In particular, there was another influential family there at the time, and those were the Ponirakides.”
You could already piece together what happened afterwards. An upstart group of foreigners gaining the favour of the king leads to jealousy from the already established nobles, causing a rivalry.
“So what caused this rivalry?”
Your father took a sip of water. “One slice of fruit.”
>>
Well then it looks like this thread is going to be archived soon.

This was the first quest so I decided to start with a memey concept, but as I was making things up it ended up with a setup of some sort of dynastic feud story.
It did feel disappointing that there weren't many people responding but it's understandable.
Nevertheless I'd like to thank all the anons ITT(even >>5774235) and I hope the few that remained were reasonably entertained.

I definitely feel like I learned a lot from this. Turns out that being a QM is quite demanding

I might make a sequel/reboot of this in the future overall but I'm not sure.
>>
I'm enjoying it, definitely needs more routine updates to keep a voter base around. Archive it yourself on SupTG, the Qst archive is temporary. Also I love the dramatic writing in the last update, hinting that we're something other than average just to reaffirm that we are. Would love to follow a Qst where we train under the Bloat Lord, fight people who are unwelcome in Greece, & find the perfect Gyro.
