The first nuclear weapon detonated in 1945, showering the earth in radiation that had gone unseen for millions of years. The opening of Pandora's Box led to countless explosions, twice against man, and many more in barren deserts and oceanic depths. As the crust of the planet became charged with energy once more, ancient things began to stir.

As these titans rose and fell in turn, humanity found itself swept up in their aftershocks. Nations struggled to defend themselves against these colossal monsters, or to make use of them in some way, or to merely survive and avoid their ire. Now, many years after the awakening of the Kaiju, humanity stands at a turning point.

The majority of their adversaries have fallen, leaving only a few aberrant threats and a handful of giants who seem satisfied with keeping the peace. Should they succeed, humanity will once again be at peace beneath the gaze of these watchful lords— so long as their wrath is not invoked, of course.

One more shedding is needed for the G.E.L to take on a new form! With all its experience from wrecking shit and killing fools, it’s ready to grow. It emerges larger and taller than before, peeking over more buildings and swinging about claws that could cleave a battleship in two. This upgrade comes just in time as well.

Similarly, the Bear finishes off the marble that contains Memitim, pushing them back beyond the veil and purging them from the material plane. It then rests and integrates that valuable radiation into its flesh, mutating itself further and gaining greatly strengthened skin. Crashing into an iceberg will do it no harm now.

Tests on the mushroom’s new forms prove promising. By synthesising the vast amounts of energy it has managed to gather up, it now has the ability to regenerate even in the heat of battle, with minor injuries sealing up quickly. Though its flesh may not be as hard as the others, the sheer speed with which it regenerates completely outstrips them. The most lethal and unfixable strikes will likely come from damage to organelles or storage segments within its flesh.

Answering these questions gives the soldiers some insights into its origin. So, there’s extraterrestrial life after all! And it came here specifically to eliminate an organism? There’s much hope for diplomacy, and contact with it as an envoy of alien intelligence. Before they can quiz it further, however, Phantrumpitus turns to leave. The doors open up to let it go peacefully, and they observe as the titan makes its way across the land.

Entering the eye of the storm, it begins to lay into Typhon, reaching up into the sky to let psionic waves and crackling energy disperse across its thick hide.

Reaction:
The army remains stationed at the outpost, continuing to stay alert and ready in case Typhon moves into them. They scramble up a response team in case they have to come to the aid of the elephant. Next turn, a human army will follow Phantrumpitus onto its tile in order to assist.

KAIJU CLASH! Phantrumpitus VS Typhon

>Phantrumpitus Strength (C) VS Typhon Stamina (E)
>Typhon HP: 1/4

The first strike makes contact! Typhon has neglected to heal itself after its bout with the army, no less with Phantrumpitus nearby and ready to capitalise on it.

>Memitim Speed (D>C) Vs Typhon Stamina (E)
>Typhon HP: 0/4

The second volley catches it off guard. Trunk, tusk, foot and body all slam against it, ripping through the alien weapon and sucking it dry. Typhon is slain, and Iceland celebrates as they watch their mythological giant fall apart at the hands of an alien beast. All eyes are on Phantrumpitus now.

>Phantrumpitus has defeated Typhon!
>Phantrumpitus absorbs Typhon’s energy. 6/6.

Phantrumpitus has achieved a milestone. At any time, it may choose to spend 3 actions to Upgrade Size. This fully heals it.

Same deal! You may choose what you want to do with the defeated remnants of Typhon, whether that be executing it or not.

State of the World

Many, many things happen at once this year.

Firstly, the Middle-Eastern terrorist group finally launches an attack. Down in South Africa, a horrifying beast rises from the desert. Controlled by dozens of operators at once, the lobotomised, mechanised chassis of Shelob rampages across Mozambique, crushing towns and villages merely as a show of power. The terrorists have chosen Africa merely as a staging ground, not for any dogmatic reason, and now intend on marching Cyber-Shelob all the way back across the continent.

The creature has been outfitted with numerous metal plates, weapon platforms, and even chambers that can house the moving city of terrorists. To any sufficiently evolved Kaiju, this thing is not a major threat. It could even serve as a walking stockpile of energy if slaying it is easy enough. To the humans in its path, however, it is an unstoppable terror.

Next, Japan stages a ceremony for their new weapon. Treaties to ban the development of weapons in Japan have been violated, but with the state of the world, nobody can blame them anymore (except China, who of course does).

MECHA-PENYU is unveiled to the world. From the remains of the god-turtle, a terrifying war beast has been born. Images of this creature are shared late into its development, right before they put on the finishing touches and repair it fully. The nigh unbreakable shell has been outfitted with metal to enhance it further, and missile launchers have been strapped to its limbs. All in all, it’s an utter wonder of mechanical engineering.

Unbeknownst to the public, but likely discernable to experts, the inner workings of the turtle are beyond human science. As noted before, Japan is unable to create a control system that can utilise such a vast body. Their only solution was to scavenge the remnants of The Hive Mind and outfit its psionic network within the creature, then making use of their own mind-control technology to hijack it. This method performed well in tests. However, each use returned more and more awareness to the twin minds that make up this colossal mech…

To the humans’ surprise, the meteor comes early. It’s slated to make landfall in China, with its sheer size meaning certain doom for the first city it falls on. In order to combat this, the PLA authorises the firing of a missile into orbit, aiming to destroy it before it can land on Beijing. The pieces of indeterminate material will hopefully burn up in the atmosphere once reduced in size.

As such, there’s an internal panic when the entirety of the missile vanishes.

Minutes later, a glowing presence is sighted above Beijing.

The alien is silent as it observes humanity, touching their minds with its own unfathomable intelligence. It leaves no markings and does no harm, only lightly brushing across their brains and absorbing every single lived experience they have. While the humans kneel down below, filling every news station with its blinding glamour, it rips through its gathered memories to form a picture of humanity. Then it goes even further, simulating their DNA and unraveling these projections to dig deeper into their genetic memory. Within seconds, thousands of years of history play out before it, and it lives a billion lives. Perhaps if it had landed elsewhere, it would have pulled something better from their collective unconscious, and gained a deeper understanding of man. But it has landed in China.

Instead, it raises a hand and turns it downwards at the city beneath it. Millions stop in their tracks, watching as the godly being that hovers in the sky turns its attention upon them. They wait for its next words.

A colossal gravity wave flattens Beijing immediately, snuffing out twenty one million lives that all turn into glittering points of light in the sky. Its attention is snatched by the roaring dragon that has been awakened by this incursion, and within moments, Qinglong is on it. The tearful beast lashes out with bolts of lightning, intent on driving this threat to China back into space. It is already far too late, with its instantaneous rapture throwing China into chaos, but it does its job as a protector and comes to the aid of the survivors, even as mass waves of smoke and debris wash out over the countryside for thousands of kilometers.

>Action 2 and 3: Gather energy for the oncoming mess.

Suffice to say I'm offering a truce until we're done ganging up on this thing, and let's say two turns after? I'll try and hold it down and maybe reduce its defenses while the rest of you and the humans blast the crap out of it. We should try and coordinate though. No one is above Size C I think, so we need 7 whole hits, and constant pressure so it doesn't regen.
Somewhat good news here seems to be that it's not hunting us, and is just busy exterminating the Chinese harder than at least most Chinese governments in history, so we can time a strike somewhat.

Shroomy - one thought I have is to exploit your developed regen capabilities.

As a dead Kaiju, I can’t actually upgrade my stats, but I CAN exploit my relatively high HP, and if we work together to develop a regen-boost to MP, I can serve as an effective damage sponge.

I’m looking at the Herald’s Special stat (A) and it’s very high energy reserves - we’ll probably need to exhaust it before Ursa (and maybe others) comes in with the table to beat the shit out of it.

Argentina sees no particular need to expend the military effort to travel all the way to China and fight. It has stronger, better-equipped allies who can do it, perhaps. While they’re supportive of Shroomy’s decision, they don’t have any particular wish for him to go out there.

Discussions about it are fraught with paranoia, and they’re afraid to lose it. Unlike the other Kaiju, it has a lifeline in the form of its decentralised body and lair, so even death won’t stop it as long as the cluster is safe. Sharing this could be a burden, but could also let trusted allies safeguard it and put them at ease. The beast continues wrecking the city, several continents away.

>Shroomy has gained 1 energy: 1/4
>Shroomy has gained 1 energy: 2/4

Reaction:

The Argentinian military prepares multiple vessels that can potential transport components of Shroomy. They don’t have a single large one that can pick up a gigantic mushroomy mass, but they have the resources to offer air transport that contains integral fragments and raw biomass to re-assemble on site. The electricity that Shroomy has given them has allowed this to be produced with ease.

>Flight Assistance: Shroomy gains the ability to move an extra tile during two of its move actions each turn. This is the same buff as Size, and will be overwritten upon size-up.

Additionally, Japan sends in a request ticket. They need a portable power storage source, for unspecified reasons. If Shroomy keeps up with the news, it can put two and two together. This will require an action, but if it makes that investment, it can help strengthen a potential ally in the upcoming fight.

Qinglong is grief-stricken, yet furious. It’s largely outmatched by this thing, but it must try anyway. The fusion bomb tears across the skyline, burning everything in the area and turning the crater of Beijing into molten slag. And with reality already so fractured upon this planet, it knows just where to go to find one.

State of the World
The complete destruction of Beijing has left the world in chaos. Attacks have happened before, but not even Baba Yaga’s rampage has completely wrecked a population center like this. There are immediate mobilisation efforts from those nearby, seeking to kill it before it can cause any more harm. One such nation is Japan, which seeks to deploy their creation. Other countries are apprehensive. The sight of this thing strikes the fear of God into their heart. It’s like no Kaiju they’ve laid eyes on before. Can they really raise hands against this thing?

Wow, extremely based that the dead Kaiju has been “claimed” by factions… I am also somewhat sad to see Qinglong die…

Alright, not much else to do except try to prepare…

Shroomy, can I assume that you’ll be sending me “infestation box” by overnight mail? Infesting the corpse of MP would be helpful to provide regen boost.

QM, I know you said that dead Kaiju can’t upgrade stats, but does that also apply to the temporary boost ability that DP demonstrated before his death?

If I’m allowed to eat metal like before, I’d like to do that now…

MECHA-PENYU wrestles with his new existence, sensing the threat to the west. A hazy memory of its life drifts into its mind, the influence of the Hive Mind allowing it some measure of rationality… metal must be consumed to improve upon its design.

MP activates its weakened Hive Mind psychic capabilities and broadcasts its desire to the Japanese engineering teams nearby. More metal is needed, rare alloys!

The Japanese teams are stunned by this capability - psychic activity from the mechanized corpse was NOT anticipated, but in their desperation to avoid “rapture” at the hands of the Herald, they leap to provide a bevy of strange materials - titanium, depleted uranium, osmium, and other elements are produced and rapidly consumed by the dead mechanized god…

Turn 1: spend energy to buff STAMINA
Turn 2: spend energy to buff STRENGTH
Turn 3: spend energy to buff SPEED

If I can’t do temporary buffs here, I would instead spend all my turns building a lair with the help of the Japanese

The sundered tendril of Memitim rises limply into the space directly in front of The Herald.
Forcibly recalled from the places between places and disconnected from the greater whole, a pale shadow of what it should be.
Curving around and then through itself with an incensed jerk of motion, the contours of the rent fragment of Memitim bursts open like an umbrella in a hurricane. Starsmoke eyes, or things that might be eyes, flare furiously as the Kaiju unravels - only to go abruptly still, the energy which had begun crackling down the expanse of Memitim's mutilated anatomy abating.
Myriad beads of piercing light within Memitim glare into The Herald and the Herald impassively stares back. The two beings hang suspended there for a few tense moments, observing each other in appraisal, in consideration... in recognition.
Memitim flattens visibly, then slowly descends back towards the planet's surface.
> Action 1: (Special, unpowered) Wreathing itself in a dense field of decoherence, Memitim tunnels into the earth's crust on a steadily-expanding spiral path. Tremendous amounts of radiation pours out of the grave of Beijing in a torrent, the elements and compounds composing the elements and compounds of the planet's crust being dramatically more energy dense than the ocean it had glutted itself on prior.
> Action 2: (Special, -3 energy) As the seams of reality falter in the wake of Memitim's influence, the eldritch entity pauses and hones in on each flicker of distortion left rippling out and then, expending a great deal of energy in the process, begins to exacerbate them. Violently the wrinkles in veil between Here and Elsewhere are wrenched open into yawning rifts sustained by the ceaseless disgorgement of unreality, metaphysical discharge, and displaced distortions of alternate worlds. A runaway hemorrhage of incongruent existence is set into motion, pandemonium spilling into and upsetting the delicate existential clockwork which had presided over Earth since its conception.

>Calling it an infection box is slander! Here at MESH, we guarantee product quality to inhuman standards! The Mk1 Mushroom Long-Term Battery has a 0% chance of accidental contamination Contact with a Kaiju and attempts to disassemble the container will void product warranty
As an aside, I've been thinking. Since Shroomy's infection is a secondary nervous system, wouldn't that make it able to eventually animate inanimate objects, like constructs? Because Ii find the idea of turning Dewa-Penyu into a small marketable plushie of itself very amusing. Also, by signing up with Shroomy, wouldn't DP fork over its likeness as far as copyright is concerned? Can Shroomy corner the market on Kaiju merchandise by getting exclusive rights to merch of any Kaiju he infects? Is this really the time to think about that? Profit projections say yes!
Possibly because we're all about to die. Well, those of us without Mushroom-insurance anyway!

The outputs are drawn from the previously-developed power converters used by the Argentinians, so the biggest issue the Japanese may face in interfacing the battery with...whatever "mysterious" thing they might use it on would be differing voltages and power adapters. What the Japanese do not need to know is that any part of the mushroom, even cut off and repurposed and shipped across a quarter of the globe, is still a part of the whole. The inside of the battery does contain spores and enough to kickstart a growth and infection. Shroomy can still tell energy signatures apart and watch a TV screen. Mecha-Penyu only needs to gently peel back parts of the battery and let the spores do their thing. The battery will still work, even! Shroomy could do it, but still wishes to give DP a choice. Said choice would stretch beyond the current fight. Would it be willing to leave its own body behind to be free, or at least free-er? Still, those are questions for later.
>>
>>6020565
>Action 2 and 3: For the first time in years, familiar seismic activity is detected in Argentina. At a pre-determined spot near the cordoned off area becomes abuzz with activity as a fleet of transport helicopters and planes is loaded up with the component parts of Shroomy's main body. The latest upgrade will make reassembly all but trivial, hastening regrowth between the separated parts of the main body. Soon enough the world will be able to put something of a face on the Mushroom. It will be inaccurate, but certainly memorable. It doesn't mind. Some extra PR is always welcome after all.
>Shroomy moves its main body (in parts) to G9, then E11.

From what I'm seeing going this way is a little shorter, but I'll still be two turns away next turn until it moves. Ganging up on it at once may work better, we don't want it regenerating outside of combat. I'm hoping Phantrumpitus isn't here for Shroomy for some reason, but it was either him, getting into range of Cyber-Shelob, or ending up in the ocean somewhere. And Shroomy doesn't exactly like oceans too much...so Italy it is, I suppose. Ah, right. Mushroom pizza is a thing. Well, let's hope for a safe trip...

>As for telling the Argentinians about the main body not being necessary to its survival, well Shroomy figured they would already know. And if they didn't, seeing the Parasitized be unfazed by the idea of the creature that promised them immortality wandering off to probable doom despite still being a bunch of self-serving politicians and high level corporate executives probably would clue anyone in that they know something everyone else doesn't, and it wouldn't be hard to figure out what once anyone thinks about how mushrooms work. At this point, the main body getting carried off is much smaller than the mycelium entrenched in the Argentinian forest, even!
>And yes, there is a part of Shroomy that longs for the emotional rollercoaster people would go through upon seeing its body struck down to protect mankind, only to be remade. A powerful marketing tool. And maybe also a sign that it has been indulging in too many soap operas, or making too many religious references...

Qm here. Haven’t worked on update yet, just had a brief thought about balancing and the Speed issue. Would like opinions.

What would you guys think of action rolls only being done at the end of the turn? I think it’d be kinda awful and clunky on the Gm end, and take away the fun of rolling your own. However, I think it would solve an issue of the second poster always having an advantage in knowing what the incoming actions are. That way, they don’t know with certainty whether attacks will land properly or not, and it becomes more of a risk taking measure. You won’t know with certainty that all 3 attacks are just gonna bounce off you, and immediately become able to forego defense.

I’m split 60-40 Against favor of it, but I’d like to hear thoughts.
>>
>>6022019
I was never a player but I think speed is fine as is, basically guarantees no damage done to you if you invest in it and allows your attacks to be resolved before the corresponding opponent's attack
Realistically, you could either choose to dodge all three attacks, in which case you will because of your speed, or you could try to attack or flee, which guarantees the opponent can get a hit in on you, so it's balanced enough already, especially since you already have it so active defense/dodge lines up with the first attack the enemy does
Keep the rolls as is, meta-gaming is meta-gaming, but true chads just keep going regardless
>>
>>6022019
I've tangled with the combat system perhaps the least out of any player, so I'll just say I'm among those who don't mind not rolling dice. Some of my favorite quests and skirmishes had it QM-side, so I've never been hung up on it.

The Lobster moves into the patch of ocean that Shelob once harvested radiation from. The remnants of the nuclear bomb are fully absorbed by it, stored within its cells for further use. It then comes ashore on Japan, attracting the attention of the JSDF. They can’t afford an attack while The Herald is laying waste to China so near by, so they mobilise their new largest weapon to mount a defense.

>G.E.L gains 1 Energy > 1/6

Reaction:
Japan provides MECHA-PENYU as a prime target via positioning! They march out the giant robot, making it difficult to assault the country without first meeting it.

>>6020412

The mech’s adaptive systems push power towards several areas that it sees fit to prioritise. The JSDF are caught off guard by this level of control, but they chalk it down to residual instinct left over from the turtle. Reactive shielding and electro-weaponry are supercharged for the moment, making it easier to get a hit in.

>MECHA-PENYU has spent 1 energy > 3/4
>MECHA-PENYU’s Stamina is increased by 1 degree for the next hit.
>MECHA-PENYU has spent 1 energy > 2/4
>MECHA-PENYU’s Strength is increased by 1 degree for the next attack.

While it does this, they send the beast out on its maiden voyage. It makes a beeline for G.E.L, coming within sight and placing itself between it and the nearest population center. Evacuation efforts are underway, and the mech is made to power its weapons in preparation.

The release of energy from the soil floods the ruins with energy, providing an additional power source that surpasses the remaining nuclear plants that China has unwisely failed to shut down. It washes across the land in vast quantities, leaking from the edges of the deepening hole and charring the land for generations to come. The survivors of the ashen shockwave find themselves racing to flee before the radiation follows, creating aftershocks in triplicate that threaten all life in the region. It’ll feed the Shard of Memitim well.

>E17 radiated

Then it digs into the rifts left behind by such an act, tearing them open so that the aberrant physics spill out and into reality. Space folds on itself, cracking and splintering as it rapidly loses coherency. Only the natural gravity well of a Kaiju can survive close proximity to this mass, and with it, this portion of the continent is doomed. The area becomes highly challenging to navigate, slowing down invaders harshly and making them vulnerable to attack.

The will of The Herald instructs this assistant, bidding it gather strength and replenish its stores for the battle ahead. It absorbs some of the radiation that’s leaking out, beginning the arduous road to refilling its tank.

>Shard of Memitim has gained 1 energy >1/4 (NPC)

Its enemy is back again, and awfully soon too. Ursa moves so far West that it loops around the earth, coming into proximity of China and preparing to wage a final war on these eldritch monstrosities.

>>6020803

After it returns to the outpost, there are a dazzling amount of questions directed at it. What was that creature? How did it harm it? How did it know its weaknesses? The fact that it has managed to slay yet another threat is taken seriously, and celebrations abound within Iceland and surrounding European countries. However, they give up on those questions soon enough, deciding to not bother it with trivialities when there’s a global threat on their doorstep.

They inform it that, like the ‘weapon’ it came to kill, some form of alien organism has landed on Earth, and is devastating the East as they speak.

With the elephant receptive to their requests, they bid it head East to assist in military efforts to kill the beast, with power stations being set aside as rest stops that it can gather up energy from along the way.

Absolutely overflowing with energy, The Herald metabolises it rapidly. Its body, already wreathed in glowing light, begins taking on the properties of such. It becomes faster, developing the ability to transfer the molecules in its form by transmitting them directionally, like photons.

>All 3 actions: Upgrade Speed

>Speed: D>C
>Energy: 3/6

It then turns its body West, where it can sense an incredibly dense population center.

Reaction:

Only with these devices can they hope to kill a Kaiju, for even their other special weapons have failed. This attack has an increased degree of success. However, it leaves an irradiated-spot on the location of its detonation, that contains one turn’s worth of energy.

When the dust clears, it reveals chunks of light that have been carved out of the towering humanoid. It carries on without a care, however, only lightly scuffed by the force of a nuclear explosion.

With this new battery, MECHA-PENYU can achieve total energy capability befitting of its size!

There’s an amount of media coverage as the helicopters take off. Those at home, who by now have learnt of the aid this creature is giving their nation, cheer as they watch it fly Eastwards to face this existential threat. They cheer it on, and as it flies, the Argentinans relay to it- WATCH OUT WATCH OUT!

Others are shot out of the sky in short order, in a disorienting strike that leaves the mushroom in a sea of flames and shrapnel.

When the crates break open, they see the colossal mechanised spider, here to steal its material. These terrorists don’t seem to care about the creature ravaging the world. In fact, they likely think it’s on their side, here to cleanse the world of the unworthy and bring peace to the Middle East.

KAIJU CLASH! Cyber-Shelob VS Shroomy

Countless conventional arms blow up against the mushroom, as the spider-city comes into view. Once the choppers crash, it charges forward regardless of whether the mush-mass has been properly hurt or not, stabbing at fungal material and chomping down with pneumatic mandibles.

However, for all of its aggression, it hasn’t put a scratch on Shroomy. Only killed its transport temporarily, and likely earned its ire. The mushroom has simply spent too much time increasing durability, while the spider sat dormant in a cave post-defeat. Even the missiles have limited efficacy.

State of the World
America has nukes to offer, and that’s all. Their giant-Kaiju capability has been taken out by G.E.L, and they’re readying a strike against the beast. Other nations have taken on China’s example and are prepping their own nukes. Years of forced denuclearisation for the sake of avoiding the ire of Kaiju is being reversed nearly overnight, at the prospect of having to use them on a greater-than-human threat yet again. All news stations are providing round the clock coverage of the battle going on in Asia now, and the fact that the world’s Kaiju are converging.

TURN 23: REVELATIONS

I’m pretty surprised nobody tried pouring in multiple energy at once before this! Though I gotta say, it won’t work for something like increasing hp damage in combat, as that bypasses the size advantage too hard.

This is what it should be. In order to pursue and attack Shroomy, Shelob would have to go:

H12 > F12 (2 movement w size)
F12 > E11

Which is the proper end-destination Shroomy intended.

So because of that, it's only able to use the 3rd action to try and attack, which still ends in failure and wastes 1 energy and does no damage. On the other hand, it means Cyber-Shelob will have 2/6 left instead of 1.

Very sorry again for the miscalculation. It's still within attacking range, but you get where you meant to go without the actual movement being intercepted.

Turn 20
"Breaking news has just come in from China where what looks to be God's Herald has descended on the nation. Originally this entity as seen as a comet making its way to Earth before unfurling and making its presence known across the world. Passing things to Alice to see the international reaction."

"Thank you Lee. We are receiving reports between religious experts, scientists, and atheists devolving into brawls trying to fit the entity into reality. One side claiming it's one of the gods finally coming to usher in an age of peace. Atheists think it is another form of kaiju considering they are part magic, bioforged, or glitches in reality considering the existence of Memetin, Phantrumpitus, Typon, and the Hive. Then we have the scientists that believe it could be an advance type 2 civilization that just appears holy due to advance technology."
"Well no matter the ans-

A pulse of power. Strands of memories. Centuries of progress pass. Unseen eyes stare into Humanity's history and found it unworthy. A golden hand stretches outward as 21 million souls' despair at the judgement and blink out. A wave of intent washes the world. An artic predator instinctively looks South-West knowing a stronger apex has come. The water predator's antenna buzz from the threat as it moves Westward. A million sensors wake up for its quick slumber as it processes the ascendent's memories to see a new monster has come. A war machine feels a new aberration Eastward seeking more knowledge to aid its creators. Twin minds shaken awake as death approaches yet again to take them back into the veil. A guardian despairs as it races to save that is left. A shard reawakens in front of the Herald knowing its duty.

Despair grips the world at the coming rapture. Hatred emboldens the ones that can fight.
--------------------
"It killed them! The fuck, fuck, fuck. I need to get to my family!" Lee yells as he and half of the studio rush out. With Alice taking up the seat to keep the truth rolling.

"This is a dark day for Humanity."

Helicopter pilots rush to their vehicles volunteering to transport their best hope to the battlefield as shroomy rolls into the crates.

"Worse than anything faced before."

GEL begins making its West as the US navy realizes its heading to China and clears the way to let it fight.

"Humanity witness berserkers, able negotiate, or even kill kaiju before."

Ursa roars at the challenge as it races to ensure its crown as the Canadian military pulls out of its way.

"But we must stand together."

Energy and nuclear crews begin laying down material for Phantrumpitus to absorb on its way to war.

"To survive what is coming."

Maintenance crews rush to link the shroom battery onto their mecha hoping it would be enough to protect their home.

"Or we will all die alone."

Memitim stands on top of the world's reality. Knowing it can't reach its apex form settles for the second-best outcome. If it can't transcend reality then no one will either.

>Shroomy is angry. Angry about a lot of things. About this so-called god making a ruckus and throwing off the precious, precious market. About overturned plans, about seemingly never having enough time, such a human concept that. Angry at the other Kaiju for being so weak as to allow itself to be taken over like this. Angry at those humans, still squabbling when there is so little value in it, and so much else to do. Angry that its main body's rightmost head is now getting nibbled on, too. >It is angrier still that those who did try to help it get things done are getting hurt. Are dying. They aren't his people. But if there ever was a time to make an exception, now would be it. Shroomy has never been one for taking the most efficient path, at least not in the short term. But it has learned favors should be repaid.
>Action 1: (Special) Shroomy's first move isn't retaliatory. From every damaged, crashed or crashing chopper, mycelium burst forth from its crates, targeted not at the spider but at the pilots and crews. Those not in immediate life-threatening danger from blood loss or various hazards are left alone or given help to escape the wreck. The others are forcefully taken over in a somewhat desperate bid to save their lives, or at last their consciousness, as much of it as The Mushroom can manage, and a sample of DNA and stem cells for later use. There is no time for explanations sadly, not that those it targets can do much before a mycelium spike stabs into the back of their neck, dampening pain and climbing upwards as fast as possible. Them ending up lost and traumatized in whichever animal or mycelial body The Mushroom can toss them into back in Argentina beat dying.
>With emergency help done, Shroomy turns back towards the offending insect. Well, arachnid. The images of Shroomy's first battle start filtering on the net from those close enough to the patch of Tunisian coastline where the interception took place. The world does not get treated to Shroomy sticking a superhero landing, but they do get to see a 30-meter three...two-headed monster made of grey mycelium peppered with strange plant-life pull itself together in the span of moments, odd bits of mushroom and plant binding together, the whole structure rising, coursing with energy. Even with the obvious gap where the right head should be, it still makes for an impressive sight, even facing a taller spider bristling with weapons. The more impressive sight comes when the spider unleashes its full arsenal of guns and missiles on it, achieving precisely nothing. Whatever chip damage is done simply closes as it starts closing the distance. Once it is within ten meters, it simply extends a hand which turns into a spike and flies into the spider's metal-covered exoskeleton. The chitin and metal both soon start bulging and creaking as thousands of tendrils seek to burrow deep and tear apart the armor. This weapon was developed to threaten much tougher foes.
>>
>>6023040
>Action 2: (Special vs Stamina) Lower Cyber-Shelob's Stamina by damaging its armor and chitin, exposing the softer internals.
I'm hoping that such a move would not inflict damage, but still inflict a debuff until repaired by using an action, and maybe only out of combat.
>Action 3: In the absence of friendly forces which could take advantage of the exposed vulnerabilities, Shroomy has to take matters into its own tendrils as it starts wrapping around the bigger spider, tearing away the terrorist's modifications and generally trying to beat up the giant enemy spider. Let's face it, it probably looks like a children's slapping fight, but this really wasn't Shroomy's plan for a Kaiju battle, give a space mushroom a break, okay?

I am once again back on my bullshit. But screw it, Shroomy has made a habit of sentimental decisions, and they've mostly been working out. And hey, new friends! I do hope local human forces realize the opportunity, especially since Cyber-Shelob has moved withing range of any European naval assets in the Mediterranean, and come down hard on it. Otherwise this will look really dumb, especially if my armor-stripping gambit doesn't work...

Its next spot is a highly populous source of life: India. It appears over them, causing millions to prostrate themselves in hopes of escaping the fate of their neighbours.

>MECHA-PENYU Special (D>C) VS Shard of Memitim Stamina (F)
>MECHA-PENYU has consumed 1 Energy: 1/6

G.E.L and MECHA-PENYU launch a dual attack on Memitim’s remnants. However, they spend the first third of this timespan moving towards China, while it gathers up energy. This renders their arrival in line with its next action, directed by its new lord.

>Shard of Memitim moves to F15

Due to having higher speed than a metallic turtle and a crawling lobster, it zips out of the Chinese crater ahead of their strikes, abandoning any effort to accomplish anything on its tile, but avoiding these blows by completely leaving range.

The upside is that the invalidation of this attack allows the turtle to keep the missiles that would have been spent on blowing the monster to smithereens.

Reaction:
Chinese aircraft are sighted high above. Some drop a few paltry bombs on the two of them, which explode without leaving any damage. They stop the attack before any harm can be done, but continue hovering. Perhaps they’re rescuers? Either way, the area is hostile.

KAIJU CLASH! Shroomy VS Cyber Shelob

>Cyber-Shelob Special (E>D) VS Shroomy Stamina (C)

While Shroomy is saving citizens, Shelob fires another salvo of missiles. It only halts when Shroomy starts ripping into it.

>Cyber-Shelob’s Stamina is lowered by one degree until it receives damage.

>Cyber-Shelob Strength (E>F) VS Shroomy Stamina (C)

Terrorists are flung from its back along with fragments of metal and sheets of armour. Shroomy peels off large amounts of Cyber Shelob’s hull, making it vulnerable to future attacks. The barely cognizant mind of the giant spider stares out from under the cybernetic fittings, then it lunges back to clash at the same time, directly slicing with metal weapons.

>Shroomy Strength (F>G) VS Cyber Shelob Stamina (E>F)
>Cyber-Shelob Strength (E>F) VS Shroomy Stamina (C)

Unfortunately, its attack fails to cut down the spider, unable to make it through the chitin that’s underneath the metal. It’s too hard for an inopportune strike to breach. The spider can’t keep Shroomy down either. Every attack heals within moments, leaving the mushroom unscarred.

Reaction:
Fortunately, it’s humanity to the rescue. Regional military forces have been briefed that the mushroom is not a target. Meanwhile, the giant spider is. They’ve previously failed to attack it due to its anti-air capabilities, coupled with how far away Africa is, but with the spider engaged, they can come by and bomb it with ease. Spain and Germany are two of the largest contributors to this effort.

By the time the bear’s journey takes it to China, the gigantic beast is gone, visible over the horizon as a shining beacon of gold. State of the World
The American nuke is ready. They seek to launch it at the very next location that The Herald attacks, declaring that the region will be condemned anyway, and that casualties will be kept to a minimum. When this happens, all Kaiju on that tile will have an attack roll against them.

TURN 24: FINAL WARS
Seems like the alliance is solidified! The whole gang, vs the NPC and Sub-NPC. Also highlighted a tactic I mentioned last thread regarding speed. Action order goes: Base Speed, action dice roll if tied, then completely simultaneous.

Going to re-look rules after game, but also considering making the action dice roll affect the success degree of move-dodging. At the moment, it does nothing, and I want it to be possible but not guaranteed in the future. Since that rules change hasn’t been implemented for 24 turns, not adding it now.

Rolled 3, 2, 3 = 8 (3d3)

Unlike previous turns, The Herald acts first this time. Its alien intelligence attunes itself to the minds of these new people. An eighth of the world's population lie before it. Many are now praying and begging, trying to gain its favour, while others believe it will not harm them. Some are preparing to shoot it down, and others are already mobilising.

The creature looks at the insides of their heads, forming a web of minds that allow it to live the lives of every human within this region. What it experiences is an even larger failure than it saw in the history of the last place it destroyed. If China is Sodom, then this is to be Gomorrah. It raises a hand, and the people only have moments of warning before a gravitational wave bursts forth to devastate the land. It stretches from New Delhi to Nagpur, pressing down in the form of a colossal and plain circle. Buildings are forced into the earth, and a cylinder is carved into the country. Thousands of years of culture and nature are erased, compressed into a thin disc.

It then rips into the fabric of the world, using long fingers to unravel it and allow physics to become unchained. It moves rapidly, not wanting to be interrupted as it does this.

>Destroy India in its entirety.
>Fracture reality and create a source of energy from it, in order to nourish both itself and its shard with a bountiful source of radiation.

Teams of Japanese scientists review the data from the prior engagement, and realize their error. The mechanized corpse of Dewa-Penyu will simply never have the speed of match Memitim, and so pursuit “on foot” is doomed to failure. Nonetheless, time is spent retrofitting the Kaiju’s joints, and where possible, the mechanized portions of the nervous system - anything that might conceivably boost reaction time, even if these components are not expected to burn out under the strain.

But there’s another way as well - advanced targeting solutions are applied to the rocketing systems and support for drone targeting assistance is made as well. Hyper-maneuverable rocket munitions, secretly purchased from American suppliers a decade ago (out of concern for an invading China) are unveiled without ceremony and installed. A dead turtle cannot catch a fourth-dimensional hare - but high explosive rocketry might!

Oops - a minor correction - I think I have 2 energy currently given that my previous rocket attacks were canceled.
>>
>>6024535
I think the only reason why the action dice roll seems like it doesn't have any effect on dodging is because this game has a lot of people maxing out strength/stamina
In a speed demon game, the one guy who maxed out stamina would be invincible to pretty much any attack, and have a higher health pool
Basically, you need to build strength to fight stamina, and you need to build speed to fight speed. If someone has higher stamina than the attacker has strength, they'll no-sell any attack with active defense, just like with speed/active dodges. You could argue that stamina can be lowered by doing what Shroomy did, but the same thing could be done to lower the opponent's speed using special, and a lot of lairs lower speed passively, just no one has utilized it
The one issue I do see is that having just one rank of speed higher than your opponent guarantees dodges, and that's because the attacker's (hidden) speed roll is locked in at a 2 (their stat value). This issue was avoided in strength/stamina matchups (even if no damage is almost guaranteed) because if your opponent has one stamina rank higher than your strength and employs active defense, in the one scenario you get lucky and roll a 3 while your opponent rolls a 1, you can land a hit and deal damage, in all other cases you do nothing, (if your opponent's stamina is two ranks higher, they will no sell every attack without even having to roll for it)
The solution to this could just be to have the player's roll also affect their speed stat (say I roll a 3 to attack someone with strength> my strength gets boosted by one rank, and my speed for that attack would also get boosted by one rank). Speed two ranks above the opponent speed would still guarantee dodge every attack, but the same goes with stamina, and stamina wouldn't even have to waste an action on dodging. The way to balance the "I leave the tile with my first action and thereby autododge every attack since my actions resolve first" is to have it so that if you're already in combat, leaving the tile has to be the last action, so they have to use their first two actions dodging before leaving, which I think is fair (your whole turn was used up, the attacker's whole turn was used up)
>>
>>6024674
Sorry for the giant block of text, I could've formatted it better, but basically I still think speed is balanced even with rolls not mattering, and if we really want to introduce the fix to the roll not mattering in autododges, we could have the attacker's attack roll also affect the speed of their attack
This would nerf speed "fairly", though if it were implemented I think stamina becomes the better stat because you don't even have to use actions for stamina
The one balancing measure that definitely needs to be implemented, however, is the "I leave the tile with my first action and thereby autododge every attack since my actions resolve first" possibility, which can be balanced by forcing it that if you're already in combat, leaving the tile has to be the last action

That's the basic summary of my points, you only have to read the giant block of text for autistic examples
>>
Oh god we need to do as much speed as we can
>>
Oh yeah, also, this is just an assumption on my part since we've rarely seen any 2v1s and certainly no 2v1s against a faster opponent, but I assume that one dodge action corresponds to one attack, i.e. if two players spent 6 actions attacking one target, and that target spent 3 actions dodging, the dodger would only be able to dodge 3 of the attacks, and the other 3 land
It does make sense, as the way to counter a speed demon is to corner it between two opponents, but if this is the case, then stamina is flat out a better investment in these fights, since it gives you passive defense against all six attacks
Long story short I'm trying to argue why it's justified for speed to autododge regardless of roll if you have one rank higher (the current system), it makes speed somewhat better than stamina in 1v1s (reminder you still have to spend precious actions on evading), but in multiple party battles you get fucked
>>
>>6024682
Yes, that makes sense. I'll include that in the rulebook and upload an amended PDF at the end of the thread. I actually had moving included in the action priority order at one point, but decided against it. Reconsidering it, I think it would still be usefukl if it was lowest priority, but meant that someone could absorb the 1st few hits, then flee the tile to evade action 2 and 3, even if they have low speed.

That would mean future games would go:

Defensive first, causing your actions to move upwards in order > Mix of speed and roll > Simultaneous ties > Tile Movement

>>6024814
That is correct. One dodge is one attack, making ganking effective because you fuck with a player's action economy.

Your assumption that you can try and hamstring someone's speed using special is also correct, that'd be a smart way of going about it. Just like what Shroomy is doing to Shelob, and what the Shelob nest/Memitim rift had as their lair effects.

Whoops, it's only now I realize you didn't outright state whether Shroomy's rescue action did consume energy or not. So it either has 1 or 0. Not ideal, but I was working with zero in mind anyway.

>Action 1: Grapple the Spider. Shroomy may be smaller, but its main body is still quite heavy and cumbersome. As the original anti-Kaiju plans called for, it just has to keep the opponent lock in place and focused on itself while the humans fire away.
>Actions 2 and 3: Still, there is little time to waste. India is gone. The better part of a billion humans wiped off the face of the Earth. It doesn't have the luxury to wait around. Shroomy shifts the rhythm of its attacks, regrowing its piercing tendrils larger and putting its whole body's mass into a smaller number of strikes which hopefully will stand a better chance at breaking through the chitin.
If we can spend 2 energy on one action, perhaps we can spend two actions at once to increase the stat temporarily? In essence, an extra energy unit is one gathering action anyway. Well, for those that have an endless energy supply, that is...
By the way, what caused Shroomy's attack to tank down to G in that last action ? My lack of combat this quest is really showing now...
Also, the grappling stall tactic might not even work if it's calculated off of strength and not Stamina/mass. Whoops again.
>>
>>6025843
Whoops, I missed that part, sorry! No, the rescue consumed no energy. Only the shelob armor rip.

Shroomy's attack tanked to G because action 3 >>6023040 rolled a 1, which equates to a decrease. 2 is neutral, 3 is increase.

I think I probably won't let two actions be condensed into one, but yes you're right that gathering energy could let you stuff 2 energy into an action instead. Only interfering factor is that since actions are compared sequentially (with the exception of defenses being 'shield points'), you'd be leaving yourself open during the gathering.

Yeah, grappling sounds like it should be based off Strength. But fortunately, you rolled a 3, increasing your F>E.

Why exactly is Mecha-Penyu allowed to flagrantly ignore the AP limitations of being a reincarnated Kaiju? Last I checked, he should only have two actions per turn - one from him, one borrowed from Hivemind.
>>
>>6026792

Uh, well - I usually forget the limitation myself, honestly. But I basically understood that Hive Mind donated his turn to me temporarily and the third turn is actually under control of the Japanese engineers. So it’s been more or less coincidental that my actions have aligned with the desires of the Japanese engineering team as well.

I could certainly make an effort to only list two turn actions and then leave it to QM discretion for turn 3 in the tuture

>Mecha-Penyu has consumed 1 energy: 0/6
>MECHA-PENYU’s Speed is increased by 1 degree for the next contested action.

The existing energy is used to power the rocket-boosters and greatly increase the turtle’s speed. It’s not supercharged and ready to chase. It saps up power of its own volition, from the fractured crater of Beijing. The crew does its best to keep this thing under control.

>Mecha-Penyu has gained 1 energy: 1/6

While the controls are trying to move by themselves and direct the creature West, there’s a more pressing problem to the Japanese populace: The gaping flaw in reality that’s cutting between dimensions. In order to deal with it, they rapidly formulate a plan of attack.

>Attack The Rift (NPC)

Firstly, large amounts of combustible material are flung into the air. It’s easy to find forests that have been flattened into carbon discs by the gravity wave, so after rifling about in the crater for a bit, they find peat discs speckled with diamond sparkles. They fling these materials into the unstable rifts, where the laws of physics rebel against them and shatter the matter.

Next, napalm missiles are launched straight into the mass, igniting the sky and forcing the laws of physics to re-align through the need to maintain chemical processes. With an existing stimulus, and a large amount of force expelled directly into it, the natural laws of the world start closing in, sealing part of the rift and shrinking it to a manageable size. The Kaiju find themselves no longer slowed by it.

India is flattened by the creature. A foray into the collective minds of these folk has maddened it, and it hovers over the landscape to tear open a new hole. Even down South, where the gravity wave hasn’t touched, clouds of debris are swooping towards villages and cities, then striking the ocean to form radial tidal waves. When the water comes rushing back inwards, it floods the coast once more.

The constantly shifting creature becomes a difficult target to hit.

Once more, the UN is in an uproar. Another nation flattened. Germany is extremely displeased by the fact that their allied Kaiju has just been nuked, and are criticising the Americans staunchly. However, the US cabinet maintains that Phantrumpitus was their responsibility, and they ought to have guided it away in the first place. Spectators wince at the sight once cameras are able to get a satellite view of the crater. A well-regarded Kaiju has just been hurt, and rather harshly as well.

At the very least, Cyber-Shelob seems to be on the verge of defeat, with energy free to take for a victorious Shroomy or greedy third party. That’ll be one threat to the world taken out.

Well, it's obvious they don't know the Mushroom, who is certainly not about to let such a juicy opportunity for a merger pass him by in favor of a simple asset rip and fire sale! What kind of second rate lichen do they take him for ?

>Action 1: As the mutual flurry of blows resume, Shroomy finally gets what he needs. With most of the tech keeping the spider under human control and docile completely fried, and its mounted crew in disarray, Shroomy has a straight shot into the Spider's weakened chitin, at the junction between cephalothorax and abdomen. Not a headshot killing stroke, but would it need to be? A large spike of bark-like mycelium stabs straight through the chitin, injecting tens of thousands of spore right into Cyber-Shelob's nervous system. The spores have simple enough instructions, of the kind Shroomy has declined to use so far. The spores set about taking control of the giant spider's nervous system. First, they give the boot to any remaining control implants. Second, they give the spider some much needed pain relief. Third, instead of simply sitting back and giving it full control, they start nudging it, essentially letting Shroomy order it around, though in a much more elegant fashion. Lastly, the mycelium spine embedded in the spider breaks off nearly at chitin level, leaving a conduit through which Shroomy could easily tap into its energy store. Where before two Kaijus attempting to share energy might have run into adaptability issues, the spores inside Shelob should help smooth the process over.

Now before I have Shoomy wander off victoriously into the...sunrise actually, it's headed east, I'll make sure I didn't roll a 1, not that it would matter I think? Gah, this is what I get for not paying attention at the start...

The spoiler comes in later.

Yes, that would do it.
>Whatever stunned silence might have fallen on the scene as the giant spider stopped moving is somewhat ruined by Shroomy using its various tendrils and spikes to rid its opponent of its human parasites. It pulls back, satisfied, and transmits through somewhat dumbfounded yet cheerful Parasitised that "The Spider is no longer hostile."
>Action 2: Noticing the Herald and its Shard straying close, Shroomy emits contentment. Awfully nice of that overblown light-show to get so close to itself. In short order it transmits its need for a ride near the latest sighting of the Herald as it reattaches a slightly chewed-on third head onto its main body. A new aerial fleet is soon put together from various European military forces, with everyone more than happy to contribute, and hoping that throwing and especially resistant mushroom at the Herald might stop its advance towards their own territories, especially considering what just befell India, and the newfound American tendency for not-entirely-restricted high-yield nuclear warfare. Shroomy moves to E13, with the Herald and its shard. This time, he lands a little ways off, not wanting to have another fleet blown out from under him.

>Action 3: Shroomy faces God, and feels nothing. Nothing but annoyance. A great deal of it to be sure, but mere annoyance. What does this thing think it is, floating on over and making a mess of things? Now, Shroomy has no real way to hurt it. No good attack plan that doesn't require energy. No energy. But what Shroomy has is knowledge. Shroomy is fairly certain from what reports have been broadcast on TV and through various confidential channels his friends in Argentina have access to that this Herald thing studied humans before it burned Beijing and trashed India. Meaning it understands human mentality and is sapient. It also means he knows human culture. Shroomy has no plan for this main body but to be an immovable object while others do the damage. Shroomy just needs to get the Herald to try and destroy it. It hopes that once it starts, it will keep going, allowing the others to encircle it and dogpile it. Shroomy just needs to get it to attack. Shroomy has one plan. And Shroomy has opposable thumbs. Shroomy raises its arms and fashions the tips into two five-fingered hands.
>What follows may go down in history as one of the first conversations between two known sapient aliens and Kaijus humanity has witnessed.
>[Spoiler]

It's surprisingly hard to find a gif of that!
I don't think I get the spider's actions for this turn, and it'll probably be stunned anyway, not that we've ever had a defeated Kaiju spared thus far, no ? Anyway, Shroomy has a new friend! And is about to make another friend! For a certain definition of friend, anyway...

Another salvo of boosted missiles fire into the rift. The more the laws of physics are made to act on it, the more unstable it gets. Eventually, after numerous bombings that exhaust the boosted strength of the mech, the rift seals! There’s still a glowing fracture in space, that remains highly radioactive, but it’s a thin line. In order to recreate it, the shard will have to spend the full effort on lair construction again, instead of just a single action for repairing a damaged lair.

>M.P Strength (D) VS Lair Stamina (F)
>M.P Strength (E) VS Lair Stamina (F)
>Lair (Rift) is destroyed!

The Japanese pilots then direct it West. It’s time to join the other Kaiju in that joint attack. There are energy sources along the way, and they have no time to clean up or charge it in the loading bay. Now that the threat is gone, they cave to international pressure and direct their war machine towards the aliens.

Damaged by the nuke, Phantrumpitus finds itself in a treasure trove of energy. As its flesh sizzles, it sucks up vast quantities of radiation to power itself up, preparing to use it for either further evolution, or to boost its special abilities in the near future. As it absorbs fuel, it sees yet another shape above it, different from the one that hurt it.

>Phantrumpitus has gained 3 energy: 4/6

Reaction:

The knowledge seekers airdrop packages and containers from high above, beyond the reach of the deadly mushroom cloud at ground zero. They can’t approach to check on it, so all they can do is dump shipments of radioactive material and raw biomass into the crater, so that the elephant can consume them and fix at least a bit of the damage it received. The alliance it has created with them is paying off.

After chasing the Shard yet again, G.E.L snaps at it with a deadly claw. It’s a brief, testing strike, that would only erode a bit of The Herald’s body. But for the smaller shard, it’s devastating.

It then siphons up the energy torn open by the rift, seeking to harvest it and charge up for later.

By using up the last of its energy, Shroomy is able to take a sure shot and impale the spider. As the spores tear through its systems, the mechanical implants and bio-dampeners are forced out through the gaping holes in the chitin. The enemy forces are thrown into disarray by this. In the immediately wake of this attack, the spider is left to obey the spores and regain its ancient instincts.

Once that’s settled, Shroomy moves onwards into the remnants of the Indian subcontinent, where The Herald and its minion sit. The ensuing action is recorded by satellite imagery and inadvertently broadcasted across the world, amidst the grainy radiation damage.

The attention of the creature is sufficiently grasped.

((Yes, you wouldn’t get to control it this turn, as its actions would be spent attempting to fight back, up until it becomes incapable.))

>>6027037

On its last legs, the terrorists continue controlling it. They’ve lobotomised it so heavily that even its survival instincts have been overwritten, forcing them to hit the controls over and over in an attempt to fight a smaller, but way more powerful creature. Eventually, they get the idea to try and escape the grapple, but it’s likely too late then.

Being in the middle east means that numerous local powers can blast missiles and nukes at the two alien gods unimpeded. The Shard of Memitim, however, seems to be exhibiting a loss of drive and will ever since its teleportation feat. The Herald spreads its arms wide, allowing the light from the reality rift to shine down upon it. As it absorbs the energy, its assistant releases warped lances of space and time that rip apart the numerous planes zipping above them. It conducts it like a symphony, filling the desert with a high-pitched buzzing that shifts rapidly in tone and resonance. The singing is interrupted soon enough, as it spots a series of helicopters approach with a creature in tow. The arrival of G.E.L has prompted it to take notice as well, but it doesn’t destroy it just yet.

KAIJU CLASH! Shroomy VS Cyber-Shelob

The mushroom coils up a piercing spike of fungal matter, then injects the spore-filled payload into it. It attempts to brace itself, but there’s little it can do while pinned in this way. The mushroom’s takeover is complete, resulting in the defeat of the monster. Its victory is celebrated by people watching back home, and they remain glued to the screen as word trickles down from its Argentinan contacts.

While it moves on with a different batch of transport craft, Shroomy is informed that regional military forces will come by and deal with the terrorist remnants and ensure that the creature is cleared. Although it has been neutralised and spared, it’ll be unconscious for a while, with its faculties requiring plenty of time to recover even with the regenerative boost of the mushroom.

Then it moves onwards for the next fight, raising a hand to goad the otherworldly invader.

KAIJU CLASH! Shroomy VS The Herald

After being flipped off by Shroomy, The Herald takes the bait and lets loose with a devastating attack, directed in the mushroom monster’s direction. It burns too hard to be warded off, and the cauterising heat destroys enough fungal matter that it does lasting damage.

State of the World
The destruction of Cyber-Shelob’s terrorist masters is celebrated across the region. Shroomy’s victory is short-lived, however. Roughly a day after the defeat of the creature, once it makes it into the Caspian sea with the other Kaiju, it’s blasted on-camera by another beam of The Herald’s light. Onlookers gasp once in horror, then once more in relief when the light and heat clears, revealing the mushroom’s form, good as new.

The battle is brewing, and with this many Kaiju in an already tense area, global militaries hesitate to bomb it further. The nuke against Phantrumpitus has wounded one of their few weapons against the alien, and they’re unwilling to risk harming the other Kaiju and earning their ire. The war rages on.

TURN 26:

Ran out of turn titles yet again.

Shelob has been spared! I never got to introduce the mechanics, because all fights were to the death, but I was going to add in a clause before that if you spare a Kaiju, you can place conditions and make orders, like Godzilla being an alpha titan. But since it’s a bit late for that, and it’s just NPCs left, I’ll say that Shroomy gains control over 1 of a respawned Shelob’s actions when it comes back.

>Shroomy is alive, and its main body is only mildly singed to boot! Considering how he went into this last encounter, this is a good result. It gets to grab the memorable spot of the first creature to survive the Herald's power, and it can tell it had to expend some energy to get said power to a sufficient level to harm it. Bad news, its latest calculations show a full volley would only take about half its reserves and destroy the main body outright, even less than that with current damage. Even if it grew the main body as much as available right now, it would barely be enough. No matter, its main goal of stopping the Herald's march towards populated Europe has succeeded, and with other Kaijus coming over to put the shard down for good alongside the Herald's annoying ability to teleport, and it may decide to pick a fight with them instead of proceeding, angered at the fact. Or it could keep gunning for Shroomy, offended at it not crumbling away like the rest. Which would be even better, since Shroomy does not intend to stick around, at least for now. Its body is more useful as a wildcard that can hurt the Herald here than reforming half the world away.
>Standing bravely at the doorway to Europe (and likely getting just as bravely vaporized for its troubles) is a sub-par tactical and business decision. Shroomy decides much like a large brand's Middle Eastern social media account during pride month that discretion is the better part of both valor and profit-making.
>This leaves the question of where to go to repair and collect energy. Always with a practical mind, Shroomy decides to move towards the Indian nuke site to hoover both energy and goodwill from the surviving populating for bringing down radiation levels. And if the Herald follows, it will find itself stuck in an already depopulated zone, reducing casualties, and may make world powers more willing to attempt to nuke it again. Without the teleport, moving after Shroomy would leave it unable to instantly destroy its body.
>And so the Mushroom half-walks half-waddles off, tipping the brim of one of its mushroom caps at each of the three Kaijus it passes on the way. As they pass within a few dozen kilometers of each other, Mecha-Penyu feels the battery installed within its frame output slightly more power in a slow, pulsing pattern, before returning to baseline. A small reminder of an option it has been offered.

Memitim’s will seems to have left it, for the most part. Perhaps it’s exhaustion from its teleportation manuever, or a loss of connection with the greater part of itself still stuck beyond dimensions. Perhaps it’s the destruction of the rift. Regardless of what it is, it takes no further steps beyond obeying The Herald’s instructions.

With its body almost ripped apart already, and it having little in the way of preservation instinct, its master casts it aside. KAIJU CLASH! Shroomy and G.E.L and Arctic Ursa VS The Herald

>The Herald Strength (D>E) VS Shroomy Stamina (C)

The Herald’s grasp carves out a chunk of Shroomy, However, it’s not so deep a wound that it cannot be immediately regenerated. It watches silently as the creature makes a swift exit, but cannot afford to blindly give chase. There are numerous enemies here to deal with, the closest of which is the lobster that killed its minion while it was fighting the mushroom.

This time, the beam is brief and silent. Charged particles are sent in the lobster’s direction, meant to form waves that sear its flesh directly through the shell.

>The Herald Special (A>B) VS G.E.L Stamina (C)
>G.E.L HP: 5/7

With the expenditure of energy, there is no Kaiju that can resist its blows. It will run out of this power eventually, but there are plenty of sources around it that need to be managed.

Then comes the bear, with claws of ice. It attempts to slash the alien overlord, but is a fraction too slow. Its attention then splits between the various Kaiju like a hydra, and it attempts to pick a target.

>Arctic Ursa Strength (D) VS The Herald Stamina (D)

As a testament to how tired work has made me this past week, I genuinely didn't register getting Shelob's defeat reward, and was about to say I though not getting it last turn meant I wasn't getting it at all. But I did get it last turn, I'm just very, very blind. And now my last turn makes little sense, but oh well, that's what I get. So I wasted the energy gathering, and I'm going to assume Shroomy is back at 5/5 HP since the regular attack didn't hit and it got to heal.
Good thing I reread everything again. Shelob only gets 1 action total, then? And I didn't see it stayed on E11 with the grey text, what is wrong with me, that's three things in a row now...
Anyway, let's get going. It would be quite embarrassing to just walk back in after all that, so let's just upgrade Special so I can hit for sure without overcharging.

>Shroomy finally gets some quiet time in the burned and flooded remains of India. It lets the gigantic flora covering its main body mend the last, mostly ineffective strike from the Herald, pleased to see it cannot do much damage without expending precious energy, and pulls from the irradiated surroundings to mend the much greater damage in its main body's side. The left arm which raised the middle finger is a charred husk, along with the tip of the right arm, and most of its front has taken at least some degree of burn damage.
>But once again, Shroomy is finding the good in all of it and coming out ahead! All this damage has given it precious data about the Herald's energy, far beyond what it half-guessed from sensing Memitim's energy signature from a continent away.
>And it is now finally done processing the Spider's energy it sapped from it before moving on and...well, it can certainly see how the bear got so powerful, this is quite the bounty! Away from home as it is, this will be very useful.
>Upgrade Special from D to C.
>Shroomy begins its fastest round of experiments thus far. While it has garnered very interesting data about Kaiju chitin it may be able to use in both defense and offense, such an upgrade would not stand up to the Herald's full power, and be unneeded for anything less it might put out. So Shroomy focuses on what it has taken to calling screamer spores, its answer to Memitim and other non-corporeal Kaijus. With direct exposure to the Herald's energy, and said energy beig a cut above Memitim's, it is able to refine the spores into a much better countermeasure. Better output, better wavelength isolation, better spread on impact accounting for a mostly intangible body instead of flesh, and freshly tuned to the Herald's energy. When Shroomy comes out of its fugue state, it is confident its new screamers and their spear delivery system will hurt the Herald.
>>
>>6034589
>The process is simple enough. Separate the spores into a spear created from its own mass, which it then breaks off and grabs with one hand, and can fight with or toss. Not the most refined method, but it has learned that "Throw Sharp Stick" is something that has worked well enough for humans so far. >The spear itself is not unlike a submunition cluster-bomb. At either contact or a signal from Shroomy, the spear detonates, sending screamer spores into an expanding cone. After a small amount of time, the screamers do as the name imply. They do not so much scream as they vibrate violently, outputting energy at a certain frequency, tearing themselves apart in the process. It is designed to turn the strength of non-corporeal Kaijus against them, by disturbing the link between Earth and their place of origin while leaving anything else entirely unharmed, if somewhat uneasy. Damage should be significant, but actual effects are unknown, from dispersing part of the Herald's physical form into harmless light and heat to sending it back beyond the veil, or even making it more solid and vulnerable to attack.
>Well, Shroomy thinks as it stretches its newly repaired form, some humans also say that the best part about weapons research is thorough field testing!

>As for Shelob, Shroomy has little time between the fight and its experimenting to coordinate with human governments, so it does not feel comfortable sending Shelob collecting reactor fuel in Europe, afraid of a diplomatic incident from understandably trigger-happy Europeans who have witnessed the beast carve a bloody path through Africa for several months. Its original nest, or whatever is left of it, is too far, same for Argentina. There are enough Kaijus surrounding the Herald for now, so Shroomy elects to let the Spider rest and maybe try and recover somewhat. Its mind appears heavily damaged from all that has happened to it.
>Shelob lingers in E11 and rests for the turn.

Shroomy has a brief reprieve from the action as the battle rages on elsewhere. There’s enough radioactive power for it to integrate into itself and gain a permanent upgrade. While it’s still the smallest Kaiju, that means it has the highest rate of growth, and by the time it needs to make itself larger, it’ll be on par with the others in both size and stats.

The production of the Screamer Spores results in a weapon that could potentially interfere with the otherworldly nature of creatures like Memitim and The Herald, directly targeting their bodily makeup. Time will tell how effective this will be. Once it finishes the upgrade, Shroomy’s tanks are empty once more, and the battle rages on ahead. More helicopters chase after the mushroom, various containers and pulleys hanging from them, and awaiting any attempts to load itself in for swift transport.

No matter, it decides, the Herald is still in a difficult position by virtue of Shroomy's main body being in play so close. >G.E.L Special (E>D>C>B>A) VS The Herald Stamina (D)
>The Herald HP> 0/7

It sags heavily, blood gushing from the wound as it loses altitude. Despite the devastating damage to it, the creature moves forward as a corpse, desperately resisting death as it tries to float onwards to its means of escape. If it cannot kill them all, it will at least wreak havoc on the poles one last time, completing the collapse of the magnetosphere as Memitim once attempted and flinging humanity into a dark age.

What it cannot predict, however, is the great spear that’s now flying right towards it. The Herald puts up a paltry shield of light, struggling as it tries to repel the spinning projectile. For a moment, it seems like it may halt, but in the end it tears right through and impales the foul body. The alien screeches in utter agony a second time.

Lastly, the sacrifice of the Japanese crew allows the mechanical monster to release a fraction of its true power once more. With their deaths, there’s nothing controlling it, leaving it free to move about and pursue some avenue of action in the wake of this. The electric breath has been powered up, and with its faculties partially returned to it, it takes that time to launch a devastating beam, bisecting the battered remnants of the creature like it killed the turtle’s old rival, Qinglong.

State of the World

Finally, as the monster falls to the ground, well and truly slain by their combined efforts, a mysterious black dot plummets from the sky: The Tsar Bomba.

>Human Army Special (D)
>Tsar Bomba: This Special weapon is the most powerful individual weapon that humanity has invented: A nuke. And not just any nuke, a 50 megaton bomb that’s 3000 times stronger than the one that fell upon Hiroshima This attack does 4 damage upon wounding a Kaiju.

>Shroomy
>Mecha-Penyu
>G.E.L

Whatever it does to them, it incinerates the remnants of the lowly herald as well, turning its cells into fine ash and scattering them to the wind and sky.

Unharmed. All of them are unharmed. Even Shroomy, with its body made of flammable fungi. Even MECHA-PENYU, clinging on to its second chance and with its crew dead within its hull. As the dust and ash clears, the three Kaiju find themselves joined by Arctic Ursa to the North, all alive and well in the wake of this near apocalypse that the world has experienced. A collective cheer of victory spreads across the world, from the most prosperous of cities to the lowliest of slums.

TURN 30: FINALE

All remaining Kaiju live. While they may fight in the future, and may take each others' lives in future clashes, they have ended this war and cemented their place as lords of the earth. There are still many affairs to deal with—the subsequent reactions from humanity, mysterious Kaiju continuing to emerge from the deep, such as the still-unseen beast sighted by Australia, or even more where the dimensional invaders came from. Despite whatever lies in the future, they stand strong. They have won, and they will win once again when crisis returns.

For this is now... A World of Titans.

Thank you guys for playing! I really appreciate you guys sticking through Thread 2. Thank you for joining, sharing your creativity with your own massive monsters, and putting up with the jankiness of a new system! I'm really grateful to all you guys, and all the lurkers as well.

There may no longer be actions, but do feel free to take this Epilogue turn and narrate what your Kaiju gets up to from now on. How they spend the immediate future, what they do after winning, and how they carve out a place in the world now that they've each overcome this massive crisis.

Going by action order, The Herald would actually have made it to A15 before getting killed by G.EL alone. But I figured that since it was going to be killed anyway, this was a better way to ensure that everyone got a bit more accomplished, and didn’t just have their turns wasted.

First order of business is of course to bask in the radiation of victory. "Help" clean the nuclear attack sites, taking what I can without starting a fight.

After that, take a tour to Australia and see what happened or is happening down there. Let's put down a lair on K19 while I'm at it.

Widen the Panama Canal to fit myself comfortably, and carve a similar channel into F12.

Finally, bequeath (ENG) to a gathering of my ancestors, giving rise to a new subspecies of Giant Enemy Lobsters.

Predictions: Arctic Ursa and I fight, the U.S.A makes Heavy Lobsters, and whalers go up a few calibers to put my kin on a dinnerplate.

The immediate aftermath would be nuclear cleanup in Russia, India and China, though Shroomy may bow off that if other Kaijus try to hog it. f they don't, then sometime in the future, I'd expect a tradition to crop up in those places about planting mushrooms in the ground to keep away bad harvests/evil spirits/what have you. Then likely retreating towards Argentina, assuming other Kaijus don't rampage. Probably some time spent on the Shelob case as humanity debates on whether Shroomy should have control over another Kaiju for security reasons. Shroomy wouldn't even be all that opposed to just leaving it in its lair to try and unfry its brain a little. There would be a debate on whether the diminished Kaiju would be an animal or a weapon. I'm expecting a similar thing with Mecha-Penyu. Push comes to shove, Shroomy can "officially" put Shelob down and just make her share a brain with various South American spiders. Going back to basics might help. Similarly, the offer to Mecha-Penyu still stands, especially now that its pilots are gone. Should it prefer starting again to being kept as a leashed pet or weapon by the japanese, I'm sure that last fight and energy blast screwed with system enough to excuse an explosive malfunction. And with Shroomy's gift battery vaporized, no oen would suspect foul play on its part. I'm sure one of the Parasitised knows someone who could source a baby turtle with genes close enough to Dewa's original body.

Speaking of the Parasitised, Shroomy expects their numbers to grow. While rolling out the covenant to the majority of the population probably won't be a thing, at least not for a long, long time, it is confident from its knowledge of humans that many of the rich and powerful would jump at the chance to keep living instead of wasting away, wondering if their descendants will carry the torch.
This probably mans that research into cloning or rapid body growth might become a thing. Can't exactly just shove the original consciousness away, at least not ethically. So test tube babies implanted with the mushroom at a very early stage and then speedily grown until the client can start taking over, maybe.
Of course, some might just decide not to stick to a copy of their original body, or to go around sharing brains with animals, or mushroom constructs. Rich people are weird when bored.

The future may just be a conspiracy theory, the world led from the shadows by mushroom-linked post-mortals making deals on how the world is run. MESH would become just another megacorp with tendrils in everything.

As for Shroomy, why with so many friends, it won't get bored anytime soon, even if its main body will stay in Argentina. Over time, more APMs may get permission to be created to supply the world with the energy of tomorrow, ensuring that nothing short of burning the planet would destroy the mushroom, and that it can respond to any threat in short order.

Then maybe fund a space program, see where it came from!

Of course this is one future of many. Maybe the humanity that leaves Earth is more mycelium than flesh. Maybe the Mushroom ends up worshiped as a god, as Ursa might be.

Seeing this unfold, and the many paths taken and not taken has been a genuine pleasure, QM. Thank you very much for running, and rolling with my and Shroomy's contrarian way of going about things.

Life got in the way of me keeping up the human POVs from the beginning, but even now I want to go back and write some when I have the time, and maybe a couple what if scenarios. If so, I may share them in the qtg. Or be on the lookout if I post them elsewhere under something like "Tales from the Mushroom: Stories from the Kaiju Wars". It may well not happen, but you never know! ^ ^
If you care for it, here is a couple from the ideas list:

More povs from the soldiers who witness the disastrous first infections I wrote about in the first thread.
Old pov about a news reporter getting infected by the stealth strain while covering the first reactor break-in showing in detail how the infection works and feels, as they eventually accept the covenant and work PR for the Mushroom.
One of the pilots shot down by Mecha-Shelob who last sees a mushroom tendril spear both him and his copilot through the neck, dies wondering if it betrayed them, only to come to as part of the network, having to rebuild himself and his sense of self, and eventually figuring out how to cobble the pieces of his old life and family together.
Several what-ifs where diplomacy breaks down. Shroomy doesn't modify the infection and wages war on humanity properly. The taskforce kills the infected, and Shroomy starts a war over it, with the Parasitized turning into guerillas using something like Battlefield 2's hotswap mechanic to take control of Shroomy's mushroom warforms to surprise the enemy. Plenty of potential to show the loss of humanity and treating it all like a game as a coping mechanism.
The the complete 180 where the first people Shroomy bonds with are researchers and maybe ecologists, or even rainforest protection activists.
Then the ET/Stephen King version where it's a bunch of kids and you'd get a small scale story with everything else still going on in the background.

Lots of fun to be had, I'd say.
