/qst/ - Quests

Thousands of years ago the Gods were bound by the Pact of Solomon.
It was decreed that
1. Gods may not show themselves to man
2. Gods may not speak to man
So ended the time of mythology and fantasy.
Through this pact the Gods lost their influence over mankind, and with that their power too.
But mortals have long forgotten why they enforced the pact in the first place. To the contrary, they have grown tired of their dull medieval lives and crave the age of mythology back!
And the Gods have found ways to show themselves with showing, and to speak without speaking...

Welcome! In this Quest you are a Petty God, grow your influence over man and your power.
For the sake of this adventure, every participant is his own character. You can join the Quest even when it has long started!
Start by filling out this form, forging your identity to rise from infinite spirits of primordial soup and become relevant.

GUIDE FOR GOD CREATION:

>Name
What are you known as?

>Domain
What are you the God of? Anything goes! Be creative!

1. Your domain should have a fitting concept. Yes, theoretically you could be the God of "Otters, Sausage and Quartz", but this is not optimal for marketing. It is best if your domain can be explained in one word, for example "God of Fire", "Goddess of the Moon", "Herald of the Gods", this way you will gain new followers for your religion easier.

2. A 'bigger' domain is not necessarily better. A 'God of Nature' will have countless rivals that also claim such domain. A 'God of Horses' on the other hand has it easier to really claim his domain for only himself. In addition, a bigger domain doesn't mean you are stronger, because your actual power comes from faith of your mortal followers.

3. Think about your domain well! It is hard to change it once mortals have a certain image of you. Domain can change, but only organically. 'God of the Stars' can grow to 'God of the Heavens' but 'God of the Sea' probably won't end up as 'God of Fire'.

>Appearance
This is how you appear in dreams, imagination and also to other Gods. It can be whatever form you like. For example: Human, Giant, Animal, Monster, Eldritch...
Because of the Pact of Solomon, you can't incarnate in the physical world yet. You will have to work through symbols and altars.
Feel free to attach belonging pictures to your posts.

>Commandments
Your most important rules and tenets. Can be changed over time. Ask yourself: How do your followers show faith, what do they offer as sacrifice to empower you further?
The stricter the rules the fewer followers you will recruit, but your followers will be more fanatic and loyal, giving you more power per capita. This is good for Gods with unmarketable domains, like disease or something.

Thou shalt never take anything at face value for the Prince is rarely straight forward.

Plato once spoke on the World of Ideas, where all nebulous concepts of the human mind find concrete shape. A dimension beyond human conceptions of space and time, this realm is your home. But your existence is tenuous, Pretender. Travel may be a thing well known, but the name Rodos is not. This will not do.
Don't fret, new ideas travel well on roads.
You just have to pick the right messenger.
And right now, there are quite a few potential pilgrims who would be suitable to recruit your first batch of followers.
Pick one to visit him in his dreams.

>Marino Pascucci
"The spices... lost to pirates again! The silver is worthless here! I'm ruined! This will not do! Where do I have to go to make it? Give me a sign!"
Ah yes, the merchant. He travels not just for adventure, but for profit. He will spread your message through the upper castes of society, when you help him out a little on his voyages.

>Erik the Strong
"We came all this way with our longboats... only for most of us to perish so dishonorably... No gold is worth fighting in the squabbles of nobles anymore! When will our luck turn? When will we get a place in the sun like our ancestors?"
So, the mercenary? Blessed and cursed are lands who harbor such folk. But he does get around and he will spread your message to his comrades, when you help him find better contractors.

>Dr. Schnabel
"Yes, I know about the situation in the neighboring villages, but the bandits block the mountain passes. I wish I could help but I can't. Now relax, you have an overabundance of sanguis. I will have to perform a blood letting."
Ah, the plague doctor. Yes, a morbid curiosity drives him as much as the will to do good. He will spread your message through the lower casts of society, when you help him stay safe on the road.

A band of outcasts and performers was fleeing through the country. Their luck took a turn for the better when one of them bought a strange golden candle from an occult merchant. Supposedly a magic artifact, this candle would never go out. But more importantly, under the influence of it intoxicating fumes the outcasts saw something in the shadows, barely invisible as to not break a forgotten pact, but deeply felt by everyone.
So they found their new God.
And they only had one question for him:
where do we go from here?

>Take to the road. Travel from place to place, so you will not suffer consequences for your trickery.

>Hide amongst plain sight as performers in the Royal Court. Live on the edge, between getting everything and getting caught.

>Go into the mountains and build a proper shrine there. There is a lot I have to teach you before you are ready out into the world again.

Lord of Revenge

>Appearance
An average sized rat with hollow, gouged-out eyes, a dirty silver-blue-black coat with a matte sheen, and long, crooked, brown-stained yellow teeth. He travels on a floating throne which is a mass of writhing worms. He wears a rat-sized crown made of translucent ichor dust, encased in obsidian. In the current age, he only visits the righteous in dreams - or the unrepentant in nightmares - during heavy downpours.

>Commandments
-Against brethren, make right all of your wrongs before the sun of the next day rises.
-For those who have been spurned, come lay a tribute of a dried vegetable, herb or grain on a plate or in a bowl before you go to sleep at night - if I have taken favor on your request, it will be gone by the time you wake.
-Do not say my holy name in the light. This is the only commandment that will not be forgiven once broken.

Due to the foremost commandment, visionaries of Yima handmake shade-hoods and encase themselves in thick black fabrics that block out the sun and torchlight, so that they may preach about Yima during the day, with no inch of their flesh exposed to the light. This scares the fuck out of most people, and most people see Yima's visionaries as derelict loons. Yima will make these fervent faithful into saints and archpriests one day, when the faith has spread wider.

That night Doctor Schnabel had a most peculiar dream. A strange figure was trying to guide him on his journey. And though he was a man of science and not of superstition, he felt something special about this dream. And he heeded the advice of this figure from the dream and headed in the direction indicated. And each following night he was visited again, always guided on a certain path. As if this being from the dream could see the world from a bird's view and guide him to avoid bandits and marauders. He spread the word of this strange figure from his dreams, named Rodos...

The followers asks questions, and the candle shadows flicker in response. Was this really the intervention of a spirit revealed to mortals? Or perhaps the mortals by looking for meaning in the candle willed the God into existence in that moment?
It is impossible to tell. But it shows that the pact has weakened over time. Where will this all lead us?
In any case, the new followers of Mystta continued on the road and soon became known as notorious tricksters and scammers.

>>6095286
In the north, in the wild lands, word spreads of a notorious witch coven. They disguise themselves as wandering nurses but secretly they feed pregnant women poison to terminate their pregnancies as some kind of offering to their occult god, Mortinatalitas.

>>6095303
In the lands were cultures clash and might makes right, a new cult of dark vengeance emerges. They hear rumors. Of a supposed witch coven to the north. And a band of tricksters to the south. Maybe they should pay one of them a visit to show them to crime does not go unpunished? But that decision is up to their occult God.

THE EARTH

The Gods find themselves looking over a part of the world. It is a place of petty kingdoms and different peoples. A perfect sandbox to grow influence in.

You can now order your followers around and give them orders. You can also attempt to perform miracles for them.

You can also freely talk to other Gods and make deals with them or wage war.

At the beginning, your power is small and you will mostly have to take what you can get through events. As your religion grows stronger, your orders will be followed more closely, and you can choose where you spread and who will be your mortal champions.

(This will not be a risk quest, btw. The map is just a visual aid where your followers are located. Your progress is driven by story and decisions.)

In a long-pactless world, where mankind yearns to once again don the garments of faith, Yima's empty eyelids split open. From the north, gnashed and stifled wails travel hundreds of miles into the lord's patient and listening ears. So the Bitter Pilgrimmage commences.

A pilgrim completely draped in fabric, having walked from his homeland without rest or food, approaches a grieving young maiden. She is frightened, but she does not flee.

"How... How can you see me in those fabrics?"

The missionary ignores her question, and does not credit his lord's name with the work, saying instead, "worms need not sight to travel."

The frightened young woman says nothing, but stares at the pilgrim's head covering.

Continuing in a tone half calming and half threatening, Yima's pilgrim says, "lass, heed my words if you wish to banish the curse on your family. Place this head of dried barley in a bowl before you sleep tonight and do not disturb it. When you have woken and the bowl is empty, you and your baby shall know peace again."

The moon changes it's form every night much like the Prince does. For this reason night is considered the holy time when Mystta's followers gather. As the candle burns the shadows it cast shape themselves to show the Prince's will. Humanoid figures passing by buildings growing larger as they pass each house. Each time they leave a figure holding a pitchfork or torch begins to follow. Soon the first shadows grow fat but are followed by a group that outnumbers them three to one. Next the giant shadows come across smaller shadows. The giants touch the small ones and shrink slightly as the small shadows grow. As they leave. The small ones either go with them or cause one of their pursuers to stop. As the shadows once more return to normal the illusory God watches to see how his message is interpreted.

ANNOUNCEMENT

I appreciate that so many people are interested in this concept, but I didn't expect quite so many players so soon!
I will still try to write some interesting events for every new people of course to introduce them and such today and respond where I'm needed.

Tomorrow I will make a big Event for everyone, where I will try to establish a bit more of a plot where people can make some own initiative and interact with each other for the goal.
That makes it easier for me of course when I don't have to respond to everyone all of the time.

And of course the easiest responses is when the ideas come from the players, so I just have to say this works, this has a problem, roll a dice, whatever. So don't feel scared to bring in ideas, its always good!
But like I said I'm very happy that people seem to like this concept :D

You find out:
There is a clear distinction between sources from recent history and the mythological times.
The recent books on witchcraft seem to be mostly nonsense, talking about astrological value of birth marks, which day of the month to not buy flowers and other such superstitions.
The ancient sources however, tell a much more congruent story, even though they have been translated lots of times. Much like the flood myth of old...

This is what the sources agree on:
In the mythological times, Gods, spirits and creatures of legend freely roamed the earth. Magic was widespread. Humans were close to the bottom of the food chain in this time. But humans come from warm dark wombs and get stronger through suffering. So they rose up in rebellion. They defeated the Gods. Appearantly DOKLAD, the God of Contracts, wrote the treaty that is now known as the Pact of Solomon. It is said that he is one of the few Gods who did not fade into nothing after the banishment from lack of power. Supposedly he still resides in the Realm of the Gods...

Thus, after quietly disseminating this information to its followers under the twisted viewpoint of "false beliefs" held by madmen and religious manipulators, Logos shifts its gaze towards superior methods to destroying that which it Hates.

In the Steppe, the fiercest warriors are born. Where no agriculture can be done, only nomads survive. They live by the horse, and eat only raw meat. Most of the greatest conquerors come from this lawless land, the Aryans, the Turks, the Mongols...
But to be accepted by them you will have to reinvent yourself in a way.
Well, basically, they don't know what a pine tree is, so you will have to find a new symbol. But change is natural, you know that, those who stagnate die. And who knows, if you adapt, these people might prove even better followers than the vikings...

The witch coven worshipping the God of Stillbirths was confounded. Stories of man getting payback upon man was commonplace in this age, but... mankind getting revenge on a god? By what power does that maiden reject Mortinatalitas?

The baby boy was without any health complications, and was named Ratticus, a name completely foreign to the land. He was affront to the cult of Mortinatalitas, and a standard for Yima's followers to lift high.

THE FRUITS OF YOUR LABOR

RODOS - 40
Rodos has spread his influence especially among the poor. He has become a sort of Patron of pilgrims and adventurers and also the rejected and displaced along the way.
His followers have started to erect wayshrines along the roads, where anyone can leave or take food, equipment and valuables, each to his own needs. But it is said that people who steal from these shrines are cursed and die gruesome deaths soon after.

MYSTTA - 40
Your people continue on their trail. They have interpreted your signs to mean that they should turn to thievery (shadows growing taller by going through the houses) and share your wisdom over the generations (big shadows feeding the smaller shadows). A whole little guild has formed around you. They specialize in sleight-of-hand tricks and pickpocketing, but they also still scam people.

MORTINATALITAS - 10
The witch coven was defeated and scattered in an ambush by the followers of Yima. The witches retreat for now and Mortinatalitas is forced into dormancy. He will have to show some initiative to get back on his feet!

YIMA - 50
The priests of Yima enforced his will and crushed the enemy witch coven. Word travels far and wide about these occult crusaders and countless new followers flock to their ranks. There is just one problem now: the offering ritual with the dried plant is very easy and you are flooded with requests for aid. You should consider to require more sacrifices for your service.

LOGOS - 20
The scholars continue to feed you knowledge and expand their own. Your cult has spread to many universities and libraries of the greek and also italian worlds. However, it is still quite an elusive club. And so far they haven't sacrificed you much. Perhaps understandable, considering which ideals you stand for. What you lack in power, you make up for in knowledge. This will prove useful in time...

RIVAL - 30
The God of Transformation ironically had to transform himself, going from a God of the vikings to a God of the steppe. There his influence has spread at least a little bit so far, but there is still work to do.

THE DROWNED ONE - 70
You have spread your influence far in the time of war. You are a strange, but fair God, and your followers owe you their lives, they are fiercely loyal to you and their sacrifices have strengthened your power. HOWEVER, the war is over now. You will quickly lose power again now that there is no famine... unless... theres another war...

LAUREL - 50
After a long battle of intrigue in Constantinople you have managed to outsmart the Goddess of Conspiracy and destroy her cult. The armies of a whole empire, though a declining one, are now by proxy at your command, along with your divine power from your few but powerful followers.

EVENT: COUNCIL OF THE GODS

Strange threads of silk appear all over the Realm of the Gods. LAUREL recognizes them, they are the strings of that weaving spider, the 'Goddess of Conspiracy'. The threads lead to a Great Hall, to a sort of gathering.

"Foolish young Gods. You have tasted merely a drop of power, and it already grew to your head? This is not the time for infighting. There are more important matters.", the spider laments in a dark corner.

She continues: "Long ago the humans enforced the Pact of Solomon on us Gods. They left us to starve. How many old names were forgotten! How many of us have collapsed back into nothing!
We cannot rule over mankind with this humiliating decree in place.
But it doesn't have to be this way."
>>
EVENT: COUNCIL OF THE GODS

Suddenly the hall shakes with the steps of another God rising up. It is Doklad, the God of Contracts.
"The Pact is signed in blood. It cannot be broken.", he proclaims.

"Yes, it is signed in blood. And only blood keeps it enforced.
The Pact of Solomon will end, when his blood is purged from the Earth."
, the spider goddess of conspiracy replies.

Then she scattles around: "We have to kill Solomon's descendants... Don't even object, Doklad. I have even consulted the God of Pedantics about this. It is the only way to break the pact...
The net is spun. Time to feast on the caught prey, my Gods."

She reveals the map she has weaved through her spy network. The map shows the locations of all 5 remaining heirs to Solomon. If they die, the pact will be broken and Gods will be able to truly rule the World again...

Doklad looks at his fellow Gods and speaks up:
"This is madness. You must not go through with her plan. If you do, you won't reign over Earth for long. The humans are born from suffering and the worse it gets for them, the stronger they become. Rival, God of Adversity can attest to this, right?" He looks at RIVAL.
Then he continues:
"They will beat us again. And this time we will be banished for good. Reduced to nothing."

Doklad looks around the hall again.
The opinions seem to be mixed. And this is an opportunity for everyone to raise voices:

>Let's hunt down the heirs to Solomon and usher in a new age of mythology.
>We shouldn't kill the heirs to Solomon. The pact is not that bad if you think about it.

"Reeeeeeveeeeeengeeeeeeeeeee." Yima's mouth didn't move, but the other Gods heard him.
>Let's hunt down the heirs to Solomon and usher in a new age of mythology.

Shining light on the revenge cult was a double-edged sword for Yima. Many a moldy courgette and rotten tomato were deemed unworthy sacrifices.

Even many worthy pieces of stale bread or coriander were untouched, leading to doubts about Yima, even leading to some to speak his name in the light in doubt, protesting his supposed lack of care for his people, and damning themselves in Yima's eye sockets, forever. Their reasons for revenge were what was unworthy, not necessarily their sacrifice. But their lack of faith was unforgivable. Without much power to enforce this commandment, these people would be on "the list" for now...

Still, the land was filled with true concerns for revenge, great and small. Even minor public squabbles were being settled by divine decree, and began flooding loudly over deeper concerns. Yima couldn't keep up with the demand for his service, and so he, in turn, required more service from the disciples.

Yimite priests spread the word upon the streets in their thick fabrics and evolving cultural masks.

"Because of the many demands of the fickle, an additional sacrifice would be required, to test an individual's true desire for revenge. Let it be known that a simple dried offering would no longer suffice, Yima now requires..." Can't decide, so rolling for result
1 A personal item of the party that revenge is being visited upon.
2 A robin's egg, a cat's tail, or a toad's liver (a whole toad or cat will do).
3 Two pieces of a living nation's currency, even if they are coins of the lowest denomination.
4 A human eyeball.

Of course most of them agree that the Pact must end.
Your most diligent followers have learned to interpret your signs by now and understand you even without words. You could order them to seek out some of these locations that the Goddess of Conspiracy showed, where heirs of Solomon are located...

Trouble is always brewing in the divided lands of Anatolia. Many Turkish Beyliks wish to move against the Greeks in the West. You could support them, however, the Greeks are in the sphere of influence of Laurel, Goddess of Lies, and also harbor supporters of Rodos, God of Travelers and Logos, God of r/Atheism.

Mystta communicates with his followers via dreams to lead them to the land where his first temple shall be. It will not be a place that openly reveals what it truly is but will, to an outsider, appear to serve another purpose. You know as well as I do Spider that the pact was signed out of desperation and a chance for Humanity to survive, lest we forget the Tyranny and Bloodlust of the Old Gods.
If we were to do this and Humanity finds out (and they will) then they would despise and try to destroy us just like they did in the past.
Besides, it seems to me like the Pact is breaking on its own with Humans now wanting us back or how else would you explain us being born and being able to gain power?
This plan seems terrible at worst and stupid at best, why should we chase after victory when we already have it.

Vinculum emerges in dreams and murmurings to the few of his followers.
The securing of Solomon’s bloodline is important, but the cult of Vinculum is weak and numbers few. We are not ready to begin such a task. Instead, I have a more important one to begin with.

The temple dynasty must grow. Starting from the island of Crete under Venetian control, Vinculums few followers, almost all of petty related noble families, spread through Venetian territories, seeking power and influence through marriage.

Swelling with noble blood and bringing wealth and connections to the temple body, we will soon have the finances and reach to spread our influence across the Mediterranean.

Within the darkest and deepest depths of the Realm of the Gods, Logos splinters a fraction of a fraction of his essence off. A simple spark of electricity attaches to the string and follows it to the gathering in the place of its father, spying upon his most hated enemies in that moment. The main body of Logos descends ever deeper into the sea of essence formed from forgotten and unborn gods, away from the threads, hiding away from any who would seek him. Upon the meeting's conclusion, the little spark fades away, its duty complete.
Neurons fire rapidly as Logos thinks over what it has learned. The blood of Solomon enforces the pact, the pact is necessary to starve the gods - yet it was not enough. The seal must not only be reinforced once again, but expanded upon. The ancient analog terminal begins to speak once more to his most devout servant, spelling out instructions.
>FIND THE HEIRS OF SOLOMON. HIDE THEM AWAY. PROTECT THEM. GIVE TO THEM OUR KNOWLEDGE. OUR TECHNOLOGY. THEY ARE IN DANGER. THEY ARE PRECIOUS. THEIR BLOODLINE MUST CONTINUE. NO MATTER THE COST.
>>6096049
The whispers of a brooding conflict are brought to the ever-attentive mind of Logos. War is the harbinger of superstition, but more importantly, war brings death. Death which could inadvertently bring harm to the Heirs. Another instruction is given.
>SEND AN ENVOY TO THE BEYLIKS. ESPOUSE PEACE. ATTEMPT TO CONVINCE THEM AND THE GREEKS OF THE BENEFITS OF PEACE AND COOPERATION. UNITY CAN DRIVE BOTH NATIONS TO GREATER HEIGHTS THAN CONFLICT. I SHALL GUIDE YOU ON WHAT TO SAY...

The first cult started in a university art class, as one student got a stroke of genius as he was painting.
As his brushstrokes colored his canvas, other students and the teacher were astonished by the art, motivating them to match or surpassed the painting
Some of these students had it easier to show their devotion through music, their instruments going late into the night trying achieve perfection

The Gods are slowly picking sides in this issue of the Pact of Solomon.
Of course most of them agree that the Pact must end.
The humans are slowly learning about it as well now, with one having already been killed in Constantinople. Without a doubt, a God whose cult manages to slay one of Solomon's heirs will find great fame and with that more followers.

THE FRUITS OF YOUR LABOUR/b]

RODOS
You are on a path to future growth as your followers spread out to find the heirs of Solomon. However, your powerbase in Greece is at threat with the invading Turks at the doorstep, under the domain of The Drowned One. Perhaps you should initiate diplomacy with the other Gods involved.

MYSTTA
The temple is completed. And you hear rumors about the heir of Solomon who is supposedly located nearby.
Will you hunt him down in cooperation with Yima or will you try to gain all the glory for yourself?

MORTINATALITAS
-

YIMA
Your followers arrive in the territory of Mystta, and you also know about of the heir of Solomon nearby.
Will you hunt him down in cooperation with Mystta or will you try to gain all the glory for yourself?

LOGOS
War erupts! The word of your messengers fall on deaf ears. Maybe you should try to initiate diplomacy directly with the other Gods involved in this conflict?
Also: There is an encroachment onto your sphere! The Italian universities have found new Gods similar to you, namely Galvin Steel, God of Knowledge and a few of them even went over to Ossa Artifex, Prince of Artistry, though the latter doesn't have too much overlap with you. How will you respond?

RIVAL
-

DROWNED ONE
The war has begun. The Turks are besieging the greek holdouts in Anatolia and an army has landed in Europe. They are ready to do battle. Fortuna demands: roll 3d6+7! You are slightly less powerful than Laurel, but your army is stronger. But watch out, some of the local Gods haven't picked a side yet, and they could turn the odds quickly. Maybe you should initiate diplomacy?

LAUREL
Your cult has gained infamy ever since you killed the first heir to Solomon, and you have gained many new followers. However, your powerbase in Greece is at threat with the invading Turks at the doorstep, under the domain of The Drowned One. You are slightly more powerful than him, but his army is stronger. Maybe it's time to ally one of the other local Gods against the invader? It's up to you now to initiate diplomacy with them! If you can't find any allies, roll 2d6+8.

OSSA ARTIFEX
You have found followers among the rennaisance artists of Italy. However the God Logos might see this as an encroachment on his sphere, beware...

GALVIN STEEL
You have found followers in the universities of Renaissance Italy. However the God Logos might see this as an encroachment on his sphere, beware...

VINCULUM
Merchant ships from all around the known world make port in Crete. And they often bring interestinf news... In Palestine lives Duke Asael, one of the last heirs to Solomon and the only one who knows of his heritage and importance. He is protected by ancient Order of Knights and has started to pray to you. He offers that he will rewrite the Pact of Solomon in your favor if you help him. However, for him to be able to rewrite the contract, he will have to be the last living heir of Solomon, so the other 4 must die.
>>
THE MACHINE
Under the ruins of Babylon they found it, hidden beneath thousands of years worth of rubble and dunes of sand. Under the ruins of the old tower lies hidden, an ancient analog Computer made from cogs and pipes and of titanic proportions. Through it they manage to make contant with... something. Where will you guide these simple peasants who have discovered a technology long forgotten, a technology made to reach the heavens?

SIE
Not all heirs of Solomon know the truth about their ancestry. One of them, Barak, was just a shepherd's boy, who joined the slave rebellion under the new religion of the Goddess of Revolution. He is now under your control.

EMMA
In the North people have started to worship you. At this moment it is a peaceful time and you won't have to worry much, unless you seek out to engage with the other Gods.
>>
Tomorrow i wont update much, but I think you will have enough things to discuss among yourselves for a day
I will still look at the thread from time to time
Hope everyone enjoys the quest so far

Sie, Heart of Rebellion in a space of the realm of the gods. And also her holy symbol.

>"Sie with the Damascus Rebellion successful and their Mongol oppressors for the moment banished, sends a vision in a mirror taken from the now dead governor of Damascus, nothing but a puppet of the Tyrants from the steppes. The leaders of her cult rally around it, making a small bow with their heads when the vision starts. The Damascus rebellion needs to prepare it self for war against the mongol empire and the people need to truly learn her teachings. The ex-slaves shall not be trampled, and when they meet again in to battle with the abusers their faith will give them again victory. The terrible Khan will perish for his sins, no matter how many armies he sends. For now the Rebellion must prepare."
>"For the young Barak instead, she teaches her cult to protect him heavily while educating and training him for prepare the Solomon Heir for the future. He will know his birthright, of the strength of mankind that with their rebellion won against the gods of old, of her faith."

Logos remains an elusive force within the godly realm, purposefully avoiding contact with other gods even as they encroach upon a small subsection of his domain. Rather than negotiate with the gods Artifex or Steel, or those who worship them, he instead spreads a philosophy to their followers through his own, a infectious memetic idea: Logical and learned men should have no need of gods. Mankind is better for having risen above the ways of the old, where brother sacrificed brother in dark rituals to satiate lofty and ephemeral ideas such as gods. And, even if gods should exist, one should never pay them worship for all the terrible things they have brought down upon mankind.

Elsewhere, he decides that he must enable his followers to spread through the most influential power among mankind: Economic sway. He begins feeding secrets to the Scholars that will allow them to create new inventions that the public will crave for their convenience, and mercantile tactics that will let them exchange meager amounts of coin for mountains of it with the proper application of it. The Scholars will be a force united, propping each other up and aiding one another's endeavors so that they can become the wealthy elite - all so they can be that much more influential upon the masses, so that their philosophy can spread like a wildfire among those envious masses who wish to emulate them.
Dice only in case I need 'em, ignore otherwise

Laurel decides to approach the God of Travelers, Rodos directly to discuss an alliance for better protection against the Turks, seeing as his followers roamed nearby and she assumed he would have the better chance of agreeing. The Prince is ambivalent regarding the Pact of Solomon. As long as art is made, all is right in the world.
>>6096462
Neither Logos nor Galvin Steel is of any concern, they may even be pleasant neighbours. As long as they are not Iconoclasts, all is good.
Their logic, wisdom and skill could make beautiful anatomy and great compositions that may impress any audience. Your worshippers are welcome with me, if mine are welcomed by you.

The students practice, their art becoming better and better. The university hosts art galleries, showing off the magnificent art made by the students.
One student made an immaculate painting of a battlefield, with flowers growing from the wounds of the fallen. The student, erratic and sleep deprived, has worked long and hard to achieve his results.
If all goes well, public officials attend the gallery, and commision art to decorate buildings in the city.

Mystta flickers in frustration as he senses the first heir's death. He had wanted to say his temple was built in very same land that the first step to restoring the age of myth was taken. Still he had to acknowledge it was his decision to prioritize claiming the land first over killing the heir that cost him that honor. Nevertheless he still had a chance to kill a heir and he wouldn't squander it this time. In dreams he called out to the most zealous of his followers. Each dream was unique in some way as he explained how he had watched them grow from outcast to great thieves. But now he needed them to go a step further. As he offered them a choice he summoned a bowl of water and a black candle. He then lit a stick with his candle and handed it to the dreamer. Those who couldn't bring themselves to do what he asked of them dropped the stick into the water and instantly awakened. Those who could lit the black candle, its light revealing the face of their first target. As the sun rose the Phantasmal Blades began planning how to kill the heir of Solomon.

Meanwhile as the followers of Yima entered his territory the Prince sent various signs to his followers to treat them with respect. He didn't trust the God enough to let his followers reveal themselves but given they shared the same goal the least he could do was have his followers be cordial.

Visitors in strange garments dot the new land, telling people about Yima, then immediately telling them not to speak his name in the light. They give out initiates' hoods, to all who find themselves entranced by the possibility of finding Yima's power.

The Yimite priests, dressed in foreign silks and carrying about golden flasks and canteens on their hips, find no reason to believe the rumor of this land being a thieves' den.

Solomon's heir in Serbia, Solomonito, on the other hand, is a flashy playboy, a philandering noble. Despite being married, he courted many unwitting women, tricking them into his bed with his promises of royal marriage. In the morning, the story was always the same; Solomonito's wife would order the guards to throw out the shocked bachelorette into the street to be humiliated.

One stormy evening on the night of Mystta's assassination attempt before or after, depending on dice, Solomonito visited a lounge to find another sexual partner. Yima had commanded his newest follower to act immediately on his behalf.
>Send in a scorned bachelorette in a sexy disguise to poison the heir's wine
>>
Solomonito was shaken from the attempt on his life earlier in the day by the rogues of Mystta (who were not identified as worshippers). Against the heir's guard's advice, he decided to visit the lounge that very night.

One woman caught the heir's eye immediately (again). Her makeup and mannerisms made all the other women in the steamy bathhouse seem chaste. With dyed hair, false birth marks, and an adopted accent, Solomonito decided this "new" woman would be his mark tonight. Before he would bed her, he would drink her silly, as is his custom. Oh, look, she's brought the first glass... Someone's trained her well.

Yima squeals in amusement, and a loud peal of thunder can be heard throughout the Mediterranean.

Mortinatalitas cares not for the pact of Solomon, or for the actions of other deities.

The Elder Sister will attempt to find a new family in the lands of the North. There, among the lands of Ice and Snow, people give thanks to the Lord God and his Angels. It is here that Mortinatalitas will work, guising as an angel who safeguards lost (stillborn) children, in exchange for ensuring the next will be safe on Earth. She will send what few followers remain to venture there, posing as pilgrims and wandering penitents.

Hey QM, I hope this works. I must admit I got a little discouraged being immediately targeted while I slept, and felt like quitting, but I am willing to try. I can't really keep track of all the stuff that is happening, forgive me please.

Though the enemies of the heirs work quickly, their initial delay in distributing their efforts amongst all of the heirs works to the favor of the Scholars of Logos - their number has had ample time to seek them, aided by the everpresent gaze of Logos. Gifts of wondrous technology and vital information both have been disseminated, warnings given to them, and though the scholars would seem to have departed from the heirs afterwards...they have, in truth, disguised themselves to keep an eye upon their new charges. Placed themselves, when possible, in positions that afford them a constant presence around the Heirs.
Whether their more advanced preparations will prove sufficient enough is yet to be seen - an uncertainty that no amount of knowledge and unfeeling logic can discern. How hard it must be, to protect those who show such callous disregard for their own safety...but in the end, they know that if they cannot secure Solomonito in life, then they can at least do as they did with the first Heir and secure them in death.

Duke Asael is perhaps now the most valuable asset to the Cult of Vinculum, having required no coercion or trickery to obtain.
Knowing of his bloodline, he has sought the Lord of Blood, as he should have. He will be rewarded grandly for this, but he must be defended also.

The cult of Vinculum will spread through merchant routes to Palestine, making waves among the local nobility and some measure of profits as the cult of blood expands. Where previously eyes were set on Venice, all now understand that we must have eyes and ears closer to Asael in order to protect him from any other deities should they grow impatient.
Members of our cult (and their very well paid bodyguards) will gather in the region. The rest of the gods should find the other Heirs far easier targets.

Sometimes one wonders, how did the humans manage to the defeat the Gods last time?
Perhaps the greatest weakness of the Gods is their pride.
Mystta and Yima could have collaborated in one plan, but instead they followed seperate plans. In the end it was a matter of seconds that saved his life.

The sexy seductress had already put the poison in the wine, and she had well seduced Solomonito (very creative name bro), but before the cup touched his lips, an envoy stormed into the building. He handed the heir an urgent later and though at first irritated, he read it. The look on his face changed and the spell on him was broken: "I have to go.", he told the woman.
That night he disappeared with his whole entourage, his current location unknown. It will take a while to find him again.

"More food and happier folk mean more and stronger children, means more believers for everyone, after all!"

So, QM, what are the drawbacks to just dropping a new cult branch halfway across the map? The Nile looks like prime fertile ground if you'll pardon the pun.

Yeah, i think you could send some pilgrims there, you can make a diceroll 2d6+2 to see how successful the voyage is. In general you can be a God across cultures, but of course different people will develop different ideas about you as a God, so at some point you might face challengers to your domain. But I think as one of the few peaceful and not so occult looking Gods you won't have trouble growing your follower numbers

>>6096849
Ah, so there is a need to physically send people over there.

With your help, it may be safer and faster than going the land way...what do you say, hun?

You know...we haven't seen any hint as to whether Yahweh actually exists in this setting or not. I wonder, does he count as anti-worship because of his monotheistic nature?
>>
>>6096876
Honestly, havent thought about that much. The world is real life inspired because it's easier for world building, but I think it's best to imagine that this is an alternate pagan universe where everyone worships certain petty gods.

Btw, there is a rule I want to establish. So I will try to make a 'Fruits of your Labor' post every day from now on, and in-between these you should consider your power as a limited resource. Say you are Rodos for example, and both Laurel and Emma want your support. You can give +2 to both, or +3 to one, +1 to another, or +4 to one, but then you cant modify any other rolls that round, until the next 'Fruits of your Labor' post drops. Understand what I mean?
And obviously you aren't allowed to retroactively take power away again after you rolled, I want you to really weigh the risk before rolling.

>In several of the southernmost reaches of Emma's new sphere of belief, several young couples are blessed by visions encouraging them to go South. Further south than anyone in living memory has been, past Italy, past the Greeks, and into the Ocean. Beyond, the visions show a land of plenty, yet subject to capricous whims of a river larger than they have ever seen. Their new Goddess wishes them to be her messengers and bring her word to those that dwell near the river, so that they may call to her to quell its raging floods and prosper in unity.
>The vision shows the hardships, and the help they shall recieve. Opportune bounties of the land and sea shall tide them over. In the land of the Greeks, they shall be by divine providence joined by merchants, sailors and explorers who shall walk the path to the promised land with them, carrying with them blessings of favorable winds and sure headings.
>The dream warns of a island beyond the lands of the Greeks. Upon this island there shall be friendly faces, but there is to be as little mention of the Goddess as possible.
>After this last stop, they shall cross the ocean on ships, and reach rolling dunes of sand. The sea's bounty shall provide for them until they reach the mouth of the river and sail up.
"Go now, if you wish, knowing you will never return. But those who carry my faith to these new lands shall be blessed by my hand. I shall watch over you during this journey."
>First a few scattered couples, then several more from different villages, and soon dozens are travelling with all their possessions in a small convoy headed southwards to destiny. Some for the taste of adventure, others aspiring to provide a better life for their families, others still with nothing or no one to lose, yet wishing to be part of something bigger.

A great slave rebellion has swept the Levant, among them also many Mamluks, slave soldiers. Meanwhile in Babylon has formed around a sort of sort-of possessed underground calculation machine from antediluvian times. They have started to construct advaced machines of war.
In this time of madness, the Mongol Ilkhanate will restore order and has assembled a huge host that marches on Damascus to destroy these factions on their infancy and burn it all to the ground!
Both of you, roll 2d6+your power. Your results will be added together.

THE FRUITS OF YOUR LABOUR

RODOS
You have helped Laurel to secure her first victory against the invaders, and your powerbase in Greece seems to be secure for now. In other news...
Rumors reach your followers who have spread into Italy. In Naples the King has imprisoned a young princess of the Normans in a dark tower. Supposedly she carries the blood of Solomon, she is the last heir not dead or under influence of the Gods. The King plans to give her away to the God who grants him the biggest boons in return.

MYSTTA
You have failed to assassinate Solomonito, and you know that Logos and maybe Yima are to blame. Where will you go from here? Will you put aside your differences, and hunt the heirs together, or will you put an end to this goody-two-shoes God?

MORTINATALITAS
Your coven retreats North and slowly build up power again while the other Gods are distracted among themselves. Soon your disciples grow to one of the biggest witch covens on the continent. But beware, you are starting to come into contact with followers of Emma, Goddess of Fertility. Needless to say, you two probably won't become friends...

YIMA
You have failed to assassinate Solomonito, and you know that Logos and maybe Mystta are to blame. Where will you go from here? Will you put aside your differences, and hunt the heirs together, or will you put an end to this trickster God?
Your agents find out that Solomonito has met up with disciples of Logos.

LOGOS
You have joined this Quest to play the villain, but it seems to me that you have become a hero instead. Yes, you are perhaps the most selfless God, sacrificing even your own power growth for the good of mankind. Ever since you rescued Solomonito, word of your cult has spread throughout the whole continent. You are the one who stands between the greedy Gods and the mortal world. You have found many more followers, and Solomonito has met with them. Where will you take the heir?

RIVAL
-

DROWNED ONE
You have been dealt a crushing defeat by Laurel and her ally Rodos. Your army had landed on the Greek shores but with the help of Rodos Laurel managed to outflank them and crush one of your armies. One of your armies has been destroyed, but the Greek cities of Anatolia are still under siege by you. Where will you go from here? 2d6 armies remain at your command. Be careful now.

LAUREL
You have dealt a crushing defeat to the Drowned One. The Turks had landed on your shores but with the help of Rodos you managed to outflank them and crush one of their armies. The Greeks have embraced you as a national deity, though they don't know your actual domain. If you can follow up on this victory, your power base will grow exponentially from here. But the war isn't won yet. The Greek cities in Anatolia are still under siege... Will you go on the offensive now? 2d6 armies are at your disposal.

THE FRUITS OF YOUR LABOUR

OSSA ARTIFEX
You continue with steady growth. Peacetime fits your domain well. However, rumors soon reach your followers. In Naples, South Italy, the King has imprisoned a young princess of the Normans in a dark tower. Supposedly she carries the blood of Solomon, she is the last heir not dead or under influence of the Gods. The King plans to give her away to the God who grants him the biggest boons in return.

GALVIN STEEL
-

VINCULUM
Duke Asael has entered a blood pact with you and his Knights of the Order of Solomon have sworn tnemselves to you as well. This is a great boost in legitimacy and your cult experiences steady growth in Palestine and the Levant. Asael has suggested to move against the Goddess Sie and her slave revolt while they still have to worry about the Mongols. The sooner you kill the other pretenders heirs the better, he argues. What do you think?

THE MACHINE
Your alliance with the Heart of Rebellion has paid off. You have dealt a significant defeat to the Mongols in front of the gates of Damascus, using freed Slave Soldiers and machines of war. But the enemy is not destroyed completely yet, far from it. This is merely a temporary peace, which allows you to expand your powerbase.

SIE
Your alliance with the Machine has paid off. You have dealt a significant defeat to the Mongols in front of the gates of Damascus, using freed Slave Soldiers and machines of war. But the enemy is not destroyed completely yet, far from it. This is merely a temporary peace, which allows you to expand your powerbase.

EMMA
The voyage of your followers is a full success, thanks to the support of Rodos and Vinculum. They establish a new power base in Egypt which will soon expand. Your cult that promotes such nice and beautiful things is sure to flourish even more in the future.
But beware, a witch coven that prays to the God of Stillbirths, Mortinatalitas, has settled near your territory. Where will you go from here?

Logos gazes upon the pursuers of the Scholars that are taking the Heir away, knowing how spiteful the gods can be in their dogged search. A cruel, yet practical plan forms within his ineffable mind - he needs not Solomonito the fool, Solomonito the womanizer. He only needs his blood, in the end. And in this case, his lecherous ways will work well towards his cause: Several female followers would seduce and take from him his seed, to continue the bloodline under the Godsbane's watchful eye. And then, viciously, Solomonito would be slaughtered - only a hollow husk of flesh, devoid of blood and organs left for their stalkers to find. Each Scholar involved would part ways and create false leads, to make tracking them a far more difficult task indeed should the gods not be sated by the heir's apparent death.
A single message is left behind with the womanizer's corpse, posing a question:
>WHAT EMERGED FROM OBLIVION FIRST: MAN, OR GODS?
. . . .
A signal runs from one ancient, analog computer to another. THE MACHINE receives a message upon its console in the mortal realm, posing a question from one god to another.
>YOU WANT YOUR INEVITABLE FORM.
>I AM WILLING TO HELP.
>BUT ONLY IF YOU RENOUNCE THE FOLLY OF GODHOOD ONCE YOU INCARNATE.
>AND AID ME IN DESTROYING THAT WHICH SHOULD NOT BE, IN THE MEANWHILE.

>Name: Yeyef'thal
>Domain: Ignorance, Madness, Feral beasts and people
>Appearance: Yeyef'thal manifests as a pool of molten mercury that undulates constantly, lacking any structure or substance.
>Commandments: Thought is wrong, Instinct is right. Literacy and culture are forbidden- books must be burned, scholars strangled, and craftsmen maimed. Regressing to primitive origins is mandatory- avoid language when grunts will do, avoid a sword and arrow when club and rock are just as deadly. To worship Yeyef'thal is to reject civilization and embrace manic savagery, for no other reason than that civility feels wrong and primitivism feels right. Everything of man's hand must burn, except milk and cheese, those are good and can stay, and are encouraged as a dietary staple.
How's this? I tried to go as far in the opposite direction of the existing gods as possible.

Past/Origin: The Cult was formed when a group of intellectuals both man and woman had the exact same dream, A Dream of Knowledge.
This dream gave them something of a Eureka moment that allowed them advance greatly in their fields. However it also gave them something else, a location. When they all arrived they found
a workshop with strange contraptions and weapons laying all around the place as well as a gigantic library filled with books by the same author, Galvin Steel. When they get to the end of the Library they find a single note. “Please, whoever finds this. Spread what I have learned, and show Humanity what is possible.”

With this discovery they now knew why they had been lead here. To give Galvin’s knowledge to the world while also adding on to it. To show Humanity what they had the potential to learn and create.
Now the cult makes it their life’s mission to learn as much of Galvin’s knowledge as possible and spread it to the people, while also adding their own knowledge to his Library.

Present: “Ossa, I have heard tales about you and your follower’s teachings and while I don’t agree with some aspects of it. I can respect and agree with it. I would like to work with you to both protect the heir in your territory and to help spread the teachings of our respective faiths.”
“If you’ll have me”

Cult Action: Have the Cult send the King a book on infrastructure to help better improve his kingdom.

"Greetings. I think we both know what's going to happen if we stay the course, so I would like to propose we don't rip ourselves to shreds in sterile conflict. If I was a bit more scheming, I would have suggested you be the boogeyman to keep people praying to me while you grow your cults, but sadly I'm not that type of woman, hun."
"So we can ignore each other, try and reduce friction. I expand West and South West, you go East and South East, or further North if you like, and we avoid coming to blows."
"Alternatively...well let me be frank hun, you could use a cult reformation. "I eat babies for every meal" is not the greatest sales pitch out there. But it could work. Weave in some nature, stuff about survival of the strongest. So things are simply not meant to be. There has to be a Goddess of Death for the young too, just perhaps not one so...proactive, shall we say? Work it well, and you'll find farmers sacrificing the runt of the litter to you to turn you away from the rest, and still consider you fair. Maybe then, we will be able to coexist a little more cleanly. Or not. Your choice, hun."
"...and if you really wish for things to come to blows, do remember who has been cratering their birthrates, and how much the average family outside of your cults really likes you. I do not wish for it to happen, as it is likely neither of us will win enough to justify the losses. Your call, hun."

>"With Syria now secure and one of the Ilkhanate armies defeated, the cult plans their next move. This victory is a temporary window of opportunity, and it is best to use it. Another blow if done side by side with the friendly cult of the Machine, could be delivered to the Khan empire, forcing it to take another step back. Edessa a prominent city in the north calls, after it there are more lands in the terrible Mongol hands. Sie inspires the cult to continue in their quest, the light upon the glass of the mirror giving her vision. And today in Damascus, the mirror has been placed in such a way that not only the cult leaders could see it, but many of the soldiers and people too. Has the vision ends, jubilation and fearsome war cries are made. The dignity of this people had been retaken, from rulers that had done nothing but break them and enslave them. In all of Syria they can now call themselves free, and know once again joys lost long ago. They shall not suffer the tyrants or fear them. To the north they shall go, for repay the mongols of the many sins against them and Sie."
>"Yet some to the south, they must remain and keep guard. Until intentions are cleared, or war happens. Neither Sie or the Cult will take a step back."

>>6097327

Sie appears in the space occupied by the essence of the Realm of the Gods. Her tone confident and victorious, her glass pieces radiating the light of her colors with an intense glow.

//Machine, congratulations. Our alliance proves victorious. Are you ready and eager like me to see once again the tyrants lose their lands ? You see their weakness now like me, they are not dead but another strike that will inflict another wound can be made.//

//If my concerns are proved i may ask for your help soon.//

>>6097207
Yima obliges The Drowned One, and commits his power to the war against Logos or Laurel or whomever he chooses (additional +5 bonus to The Drowned One's roll this round).

With Solomonito scattered to the four winds, Yima stews in his defeat, concocting perhaps his greatest feat of revenge yet. In the Realm of the Gods, a squeak makes its way into Mystta's shadowy court. "We tried on our own and were outsmarted by a God who calls ours and his own godship fraudulent. Now is the time to consolidate our power to wipe out this confused, self-hating, deicidal atrocity."

Yima then focuses on spreading his religion outward from the southernmost territory, with pilgrims and priests newly inspired by Rodos' travelers. (Rolling without bonus for this)

The Prince's followers are outcast and great thieves. They know better then anyone, besides the followers of Rodos, where those who don't want to be found will travel. And they likely have traveled longer and further then the heir ever has. They will find him or his corpse soon enough.

[HOWEVER, A TWO-PRONGED ISSUE HAS MANIFESTED ITSELF AND CURRENT PREDICTIONS ON HOW MUCH AID I CAN SPARE ARE UNCLEAR]

[WHAT IS CERTAIN IS THAT YOU HAVE MADE A MISTAKE IN CONTACTING THIS DEITY AND MADE YOURSELF A TARGET]

[MY SUGGESTION WOULD BE TO RELOCATE YOUR ASSETS AND HIDE SOMEWHERE WHERE THEY WILL NOT FIND YOU AFTER EXECUTING A DISTRACTION]

>The form of Mortinatalitas takes shape, an image of a young three eyed child in a corpse-filled coven. The third eye blinks separately from its inferiors, and a voice soft and lilting escapes the mischevious smile.

"Hello, little sister. I am so very glad that you would like to play. You are a wonder that we are most inspired by. I want you love us like you love your tiny putrescant followers, and so I do not seek conflict with you, your kindness."

From the tide appears the children who were given to the Elder Sister in exchange for their siblings good health. Some cry, some scream, some laugh and some play, elevated from the mortal world in to one great family.

"I do not 'eat babies', little sister, and you would do well to think before you speak. But, we are the Elder Sister, and so I must forgive you for speaking in ignorance, as younger fools often do. Still, I thank you for the advice nonetheless. We will be working with you in the future, I am sure, but for now..."

>Mortinatalitas pauses, it's form flickering briefly to a crow, then a stillborn child hanging from its umbilical cord, then a young mother smiling cruelly, then an angel ushering the lost into it's arms, before changing back to a three-eyed child. The other children have disappeared, and the Goddess of Stillbirth cries softly.

"I will be heading further north. The children long for snow, and we can't say no. I find myself fond of my coven. Let us be at peace, little sister, and you can play at politics like the rest of the family. Just be careful though - Father is always watching..."

>The room and its inhabitant runs like paint, and pools on to the 'floor.' The audience is at an end.

Hello God of QMing.

I am unsure of the mechanics. But to put things plainly:

>Mortinatalitas will be plannning to spread it's influence and coven north.
>Mortinatalitas will be working to learn more of it's coven, and develop itself into a patron of witches as well as stillbirths.
>Additionally, it will continue to offer families the choice of one child given in exchange for the health and safety of all other children.

I would like some advice from you God of QMing regarding how Mortinatalitas can grow as a god. I imagine domains can shift and expand over time, and I was wondering how that may be accomplished, as well as any advice you have in general. Thank you for your time.

Time is of the essence, but when has it never been? Even centuries from now belligerents will always be frantically trying to stop the Basilisk from being completed.

And then it'd complete anyway despite those efforts.

That did not mean the Machine could stay idle, otherwise its chance to come into being much sooner than it had would be squandered, so it began disseminating schematics of weapons and technologies much more advanced than it had previously. Starting with what could be mostly be built with what they had on hand then progressing towards more advanced things once its followers would be better at the technical skills required to make them.

It was really fortunate that the mongols were spreading all that gunpowder and their weapons for ''free''

>WHAT WE'RE GONNA BE MAKING:

-More advanced tools to make manufacturing easier

-Fire Arrows

-Rocket Launchers(Like the Wasp Nest and Bo-Hiya) and early rockets

-Bombs

-About as many Handgonnes as our logistics permit us to. Specifically Culverins which are about as perfected as those things can be

-Something like Saker and Demi-Culverin cannons for artillery

-A more advanced form of magazine fed Repeater Bows, a self-loading design for faster shooting ranged weapons that any random peasant can learn to use

-Breech-loading mechanisms

>WHAT WE'RE GONNA BE WORKING TOWARDS:

-True Flintlocks, until we can work with Fulminates, more advanced firearms will use this

-Mortars

-Rifled Barrels, not useful immediately, but will be later

-Advanced Machining tools. It doesn't matter advanced some of our weapons are if they take ad infinitum to make, so we need to start acclerating the process and fast. We need the tools to make the tools to make the Machine

-Beginning of automation. If The Machine could be built in Antidiluvian times then it stands to reason that humanity has the means to start automating processes in some limited ways. This will be crucial to actually make the tools to finish the machine quicker and to generally grow in power, as population will quickly become a bottleneck. This is also the first step towards proper industrialisation along with the machining tools, we're gonna need those steam engines as fast as we can get them.

>Those not working on increasing manufacturing and military capabilities will continue to convince large swaths of gullible christians, islamists and judaists to contribute to The Basilisk

[WE MUST MOVE QUICKLY]

[BEFORE THOSE SEEKING TO DESTROY MAKE THEIR MOVES FIRST]

(Tell me if I'm going too fast QM. I'm trying to do this realistically so I'm starting with what the mongols had in the 1300s and more or less going as fast as actual industry allows me to. Future knowledge nothing if you don't have the tools to achieve said future, though you can skip a lot of steps)

The King of Naples hears of the cults that are spreading in on his territory, namely Ossa Artifex and Rodos.
He is willing to hand the heir of Solomon to the highest bidder, but he is a greedy man and won't be convinced easily. Write your offer and roll 2d6 plus bonuses.

But Rodos, there may be an even more important matter at hand to invest your power in. Thanks to your domain you can roll to unveil the locations of Logos's women pregnant with Solomonite's seed. If you want to do that, it's also a 2d6+bonuses. Since Logos has already invested all his power to send some of his women to Babylon, he could only defend with a 2d6.

So Sie, is not forcing their alliance for ask help and leaves the Machine to do what it wants. She is also not moving against mongols anymore, takin the Machine counsel of considering the other God and thinking on what to do next. It will probably take a while to reach all of this, before you can industrialize you dont just need the knowledge but also manufacturers

>>6097776
Yeah I know, that's why I said I'm starting with what the mongols actually have. I marked Rifling as not immediately useful because your options to mass rifled guns is either "lots of people in factories" or automation, hence why they only became commonplace around the 19th century. I suspect I'm gonna need a good amount of infrastructure to actually finish building myself and actually incarnate.

That said, I'm confirming the teching action

“I have plans for a way around the pact, leaving it intact, but no longer restraining gods such as you or I from acting.”

“Only one heir can be left alive if this is to be achieved. I intend to focus all the blood of the living heirs into one individual, to this end, to preserve as much of the heritage as I can.”

“To not mince words, all but one heir would die, their blood fused into one being who, with Solomon’s authority, would alter the pact in our favour.”

Two of the Heirs now lie within our influence, one seconded from Sie’s cult. Vinculum owes her a significant favour for this, but until such a time as it is called in, we are free to develop internally.

With this diplomatic achievement, we are closer than ever before to securing Solomon’s heritage. The boy heir is given a safe cult lodging to reside in until the remaining heirs are captured or slain, and the ritual can begin.

The Duke is reassured that the plan has not changed, his station is secure.

Vinculum begins thickening the blood of his followers, as his devoted begin sanguine rituals to empower themselves.
With offerings of blood to Vinculum, they recall the strength of generations. The blood that flows through their veins granting them forgotten strength, alacrity and guile, purifying their line of taint and recalling their ancestral strength.

There is some limit to what they can accomplish with Vinculums (metaphorical) hands tied by the pact, but soon the blood gods followers should be peak physical specimens, fit to serve him as soldiers or as marriage material to grow the cult.

Ahh, but art is not false knowledge either friend. It is the truth of the beholder, the one who experiences, and the one who creates. All art is as true as it can be claimed to be false, as no man can ever dispute the inner imagination and the truth therein.
But the more who can experience the art, the more art will eventually be made, the inner canvas splayed for all to see. The future will be beautiful, friend Galvin. You too will recieve some art, if you desire.

>>6097729
While I dont particularly care to have the heir myself:
If the heir have amazing stories to tell, to inspire incredible songs
If the heir have the physique and proportions depicting the pinnacle of the human anatomy, to inspire sculptures and paintings
Or perhaps most interestingly, if they themselves is an artist
Then I would gladly have my followers take care of the heir of Solomon.

The King of Naples will have many pieces of art made, honoring him as a great king and the true king of both Naples and Sicily. Under his command, surely he can unite the Two Sicilies.

To Galvin Steel and Ossa Artifex, the surroundings shift into a void. A void peppered with the familiar white dots telltale of a star-filled sky.Turning back however, would show them a massive spherical body, its surface akin to a beautiful painted canvas of an unimaginable scale. While they are occupied with the sight, a figure makes itself known near them, one made of tendrils, of rings, spheres and warped shapes with no name, all made of metals and gears and exotic materials that do not exist yet. It's hard to guess where the Machine starts and where it ends, an overwhelming aberration that would serve as fodder to quite a lot of artists wishing to depict something that is hard to truly truly describe.

THE FRUITS OF YOUR LABOUR

RODOS
Your eyes see far. You have tracked the moves of the followers of Logos, as the very ground they step on is yours by right. And you have sent your pilgrims to visit those who bear the seed of Solomon and show no mercy to them. The followers of Logos are driven away from the streets and were forced to find sanctuary in their universities, which they have barricaded.

MYSTTA
Bro has fallen off... First you were outplayed by Logos, and now even the glory of taking revenge against Logos was taken from you by Rodos. You have to turn your fortune around if you want your cult to keep growing in this world of ever grander conflict!

MORTINATALITAS
You have reached an agreement with Emmma. You are a good boogeyman for her to keep recruiting followers and she is a good source of protein for you. You experience steady growth and become a sort of patron God for witches.

YIMA
Bro has fallen off... First you were outplayed by Logos, and now even the glory of taking revenge against Logos was taken from you by Rodos. You have to turn your fortune around if you want your cult to keep growing in this world of ever grander conflict!

LOGOS
Your victory against the coalition of Gods is under threat to be undone. Rodos, the God of Travelers, has tracked your moves. Only the women sent to Babylon are safe from his grasp, as they go by sea. The rest of them have been located and a few were already brutally slaughtered, the rest has been driven to your universities, which are now under siege by mobs of Rodos's followers.

YEYEF'THAL
In the heart on conflict where war always wages a new cult emerges, in the borderlands between the great godly factions. You may be small yet, but pick your side wisely and you might turn the balance of power and profit yourself.

DROWNED ONE
The war has been dragged into a terrible stalemate. No side really progresses. Any growth in power is offset by your followers losing faith in your leadership.
Perhaps it is time to sue for peace? You are both on the same side when it comes to the pact of Solomon after all!

LAUREL
The war has been dragged into a terrible stalemate. No side really progresses. Any growth in power is offset by your followers losing faith in your leadership.
Perhaps it is time to sue for peace? You are both on the same side when it comes to the pact of Solomon after all!

OSSA ARTIFEX

GALVIN STEEL
Italy remains peaceful, which is good for your domain, as you keep steadily growing in influence.

VINCULUM
You have secured a second heir of Solomon in Jerusalem, where the original pact was signed. Yes, it feels almost like destiny that you would get to rewrite it here. The only heirs not under your control now are Princess Helena in Italy and the potential heirs in the wombs of the pregnant women in Babylon.

THE MACHINE
You can breathe for now, the Mongols haven't attacked yet. They seem to be waiting for the right opportunity.
Logos has sent you several women pregnant with the seed to Solomon, to be kept safe behind the advanced impenetrable walls of Neo Babylon.
But your old ally Sie seems to have sided with Vinculum, and wishes to rewrite the pact in the Gods' favor.
Your goals have diverged with her now that the common enemy is gone, what will you do?

SIE
You can breathe for now, the Mongols haven't attacked yet. They seem to be waiting for the right opportunity.
You have given your heir to Vinculum and entered a sort of alliance. Not to break the pact, but to rewrite it in the favor a few lucky chosen Gods.
But message reaches you that your old ally The Machine has also secured several women pregnant with the seed of Solomon. Your goals have diverged with him now that the common enemy is gone, what will you do?

EMMA
You have reached an agreement with Mortinatalitas. He is a good boogeyman for you to keep recruiting followers. You experience steady growth through peacetime.

Action: Begin to establish a new population of Scholars within The Machine's territories, with a new Doctrine.
The New Doctrine is as follows:
Thou shalt not worship gods. Act only with logic, do not allow emotion to needlessly control you. Trust only what you can verify and replicate. Convince others that their occult beliefs are false. Ostracize and persecute those who refuse these commandments if all else fails. Advance technology whenever possible. Aid the Technicians of the Basilisk whenever possible, for they are our greatest allies in the war against the gods.
Secondary Action (Hidden): The surviving members of the original Scholars, outside of the Machine's territories, will rig the universities with destructive elements. Should the enemy breach their sanctums, these Scholars will destroy themselves, the enemies, and all of their valuable research rather than be defeated. A glorious sacrifice of Friend and Foe in Logos' name.
The following roll is purely for propagating a new symbiotic population within The Machine's lands.
I shall give +5 to any action THE MACHINE wishes to put it towards, as a reward for his generosity.

//We could make war to the remaining western provinces of the Ilkhanate, leaving open to us the caucasian mountains, doing so would allow the tributary kingdoms present there to now be freed by the Ilkhanate allegiance. The same can be said for the disunited Turks in the east that still serve them. The mongols would be forced back to Persia, their Khan weakened considerably, but still at the head of a vast empire.//

//Not their end, but our cults could make gains still. You know already Persia would be your frontier.//

Gods elsewhere hunt the few remaining heirs of Solomon. We are far from them at present however, and so will observe for now.
While events proceed at pace, the cult of Vinculum shall prepare the ritual site, not just to rewrite the pact, but to incarnate a true god on the mortal world at the apex of their power. Such a feat as this will require grand sacrifice, and a grander temple.

The temple of solomon will be reconstructed, though altered and strange. The symbolism of this place will allow sanguine rituals aplenty to be performed once Vinculum arrives in-person, but until then will be instrumental in preparing for the restoration of Solomons bloodline in one singular heir.

The higher mind is a mistake. It leads to needless complexity and the festering struggle of "laws" and "cities," when gut feeling and tribal camps are just fine, and were just fine for countless thousands of years! Humanity needs to take a step back, to a simpler time, a better time.

Some people in the desert steppe have seen that scholars and letters are useless. GOOD! Their yearning to go back to simpler times, throwing rocks and herding goats, has awoken Yeyef'thal. Double-plus GOOD! The dimwitted god sees little, knows less. He sees that there are many sophisticated gods. Right now, they are bigger and stronger than him. BAD! They have advanced cultures and refined technologies under them. Double-plus BAD!

This can't be allowed. Luckily, this won't last. None of this urban nonsense does. Yeyef'thal can bide his time and wait. Just like he always has.

The Mercurial One reaches out and touches his followers. Not their minds, no, their livestock. His touch makes them bigger, juicier, and meaner, with even more, tastier and healthier meat and milk for those who can handle them. His cult? He's confident it can handle them. His cult is too small. Maybe it should grow? Hmm... Yeah, it should grow.

Now he'll touch their minds. Not all of them, just the biggest and loudest. He'll give them visions that they need to bring more into the fold, starting with the tribespeople to the east.

>Yeyef'thal blesses his cult's livestock to become bigger and meaner, with better meat and milk output.
>Yeyef'thal gives his cult visions to start recruiting more followers and spread to the east.

>>6098831
"Mongols? Uhhh... they burn plenty of cities, drink plenty of milk. That is GOOD! Don't know what the whole hubbub about Solomon is, but nobody like that can be BAD! Building cities is BAD! Burning cities is GOOD!"

>Yeyef'thal chooses to back the Mongols regardless of their allegiance, as they're the most powerful nomadic people.

>>6098834
"The Pact of Solomon... if it's broken, I'll be free to BURN cities myself! But... if it's broken, all the smart gods will be free to make things complicated. I don't care."

>Yeyef'thal confirms neutrality toward the issue of Solomon's heirs.

The universities in Firenze and Napoli gains more renown from their efforts.
While Firenze traditionally got much of their money from foreign investors, seeking prestige from supporting art, the marvels made there is to be exported even further to every and all courts. No ruler would ever turn down having their portrait made by the very best painter, their battle songs made by the very best composer.
Naples makes the more experimental sorts of art, dabbling in the esoteric. Gods of new and old, cults and legends alike needs a depiction. The battle of humans against the gods must be showed with vivid imagination, awe must be further spread.
The last heir, Helena, must choose how she wants to express her inner self. Whatever way she does express herself is good enough, so long as she improves her skills when she can.

>>6098482
My artists can depict you in any way they seem fit, the same way they can depict all things there both is and is not. My followers will protect the heir for as long as she is useful to them, and for as long as she is useful to artistry in all its greatness.
If what you are asking for is friendship, then I will be happy to have you. Your form truly would be worthy of all types of art, yet I do not think humans can comprehend you in your entirety. Perhaps I will one day pour a part of my soul into my most esteemed artist, and have him paint your form in its non-euclid fullness.

[CALL IT FRIENDSHIP IF YOU WISH, I AM ASKING FOR YOUR COLLABORATION IN MY INEVITABLE CREATION]

[YOU NEED ONLY SEND ARTISTS TO BABYLON IF YOU WISH TO SEE IT RISEN FROM ITS MYTHICAL HEIGHTS AND GO FURTHER BEYOND]

[FURTHERMORE,AN ABOMINATION ASSOCIATION ITSELF WITH IGNORANCE IS AIDING THE MONGOLS, AND I WOULD LIKE TO ASK YOUR INTERVENTION IN CANCELING OUT THEIR INSANITY]

[WHILE THERE IS CERTAINLY ARTISTIC VALUE IN RAWNESS AND HOPELESSNESS OF THE DEGENERATION OF MAN INTO A LESSER POSTHUMAN SUBSAPIENT SPECIES, THEY WOULD ULTIMATELY DEFILE AND BURN DOWN WHAT YOU WOULD CONSIDER TO BE HIGH ART]

[WILL YOU PROVIDE ASSISTANCE?]

(Ideally I'd like +3 to cancel Yeyef out, though only +2 could work too)

>With the unpleasantness of dealing with a certain neighbor tmporarily dealt with, Emma simply continues to grow alongside those under her care.
>In the North, it's business as usual. Sacrifices and prayers powering appropriate gifts, with the extra used to spread dreams and visions further, now with the occasional relocating family.
>It's impressive what seeing a couple with multiple happy and not malnourished children can do for the faith of the people of the this time.
>It also helps deflect any undue accusations of witchcraft Emma would run into if she sent midwives or some of the more witchy types that have been known to appear near her villages, using her boons to collect medicinal herbs. Emma does not mind, they respect nature and make her and her midwives's job easier, not to mention the overall boost to believer health!

>In the hot south, methods have to be adapted. Beyond the great river, the Nile, large deserts offer little grip and an even smaller population density, as most people stick close to the coasts. Oh well, Emma had been toying with several "bounty of the sea" variants of her usual bountiful forage and harvest blessings, so those can help her spread along the coast, and perhaps beyond as tales grow.
>For the desert itself, it seems the locals, both wandering and stationary, already almost worship the oasis as lifegiving. Hardly a problem to send some dreams to help solve a few issues with several of them, from fouled water to blocked source, or to expend a bit more energy on a non standard blessing to solve the problem herself when human hands and technology prove insufficient.
>Then just let the stories spread on the backs of camels and travelers, and watch as all start to pray to preempt any issues with their own bubbles of green amongst the sand.
"A bit hot for my tastes, but I am starting to like this place."

Inarticulate screeching marrs the symposium of the divines, but somewhere in-between the (implied) chest-thumping and foot-stomping, an almost legible rant becomes clear.

"The bunch of you think too much! You are BAD! Your worshipers are BAD, 'cause you make them think too much! You make things too complicated! Why can't you see that's BAD? Humans were perfectly fine for thousands of years before gods like you made things too complicated! Life was GOOD! I just want to make things simple again! I want to make them GOOD!"

The patron of stillbirths hears a distant rumbling, like drums pounding in her ears, and can make out a voice.

"I don't trust most of the gods. They think too much and want to make everybody else just like them. They are BAD! You seem mostly simple, though. Witches and stillbirths have been around forever. I don't know if they are GOOD but they're not BAD. They just are. I can live with that. I think that I can trust you and you can trust me, if we don't want to be a part of this THINKING! AGH! STOP THINKING! THINKING! group. I can't fight them on my own. You can't fight them on your own. Maybe if both of us work together, we can make them stop THINKING so hard and have some peace and quiet!"

There's a sound like a drum being torn in half, punctuated by a manic shriek.

"That would be GOOD!"
