!PLAN9M8Wsc 06/22/10(Tue)17:32 No.10671601So she pushed a paper in my hands, and it said at the top "Roadmap for Release, 1978" and had a bunch of stuff on it that looked nothing like a map I ever saw at all. It was all numbers and fancy names. I didn't know what to do with it, but she explained it to me, there, back in the secretary office for Mr. Amirani in early '78. And I didn't know it, you know, how much what we were doing mattered to the guys who I ended up workin' for. It turns out me, old Antonie, the guy who fell off the gym roof in '59 and came out smarter, was important for what I knew. Hah! And, my poor mom, bless her wherever she is, she always said it was my heart what would make me worth knowing. I guess she might be right, though.
It sounded kinda stupid to me back then, what her idea was, but I guessed that if we go forward in time someone might figure out a way to go back, and so I gave her a chance. Plus, as I said, she was pretty, and she talked to me, and it gave us time together. When I got the chance, I used my security clearance to get into Mr. Amirani's office, got his trash, and we sorted through it, and me and her, we thought about things. We never told anyone else, I mean, I sure didn't, she told me one day I couldn't, and I didn't. I never told anyone until well after she was dead, and even then it was hard because I thought she wouldn't want me to, but what they did to her, what... I mean, I needed to tell someone because I needed someone to help.
I gotta thank that lady. When she was alive, she was the first person who made me think I could put things together on my own and showed me how to do it. When... after she wasn't alive no more, she gave me the reason to keep doing it. I wish we had taken the time to breathe once in a while during those little get-togethers so I could hear her tell me her name. I know it, now, but I can't use it, you know. She never told it to me. Wouldn't be right. |
