Money is power, and as a Rogue Trader, let it not be said Dolemite Deadlift suffers from a lack of money. Your ship, the Igneus Aequitas, faithfully carries you to an unexplored planet that you intend exploit and spread the Emperor’s word to. Previously a minor part of the Domian fleet, it’s not the most heavily armed or crewed, but it is certainly fast. While it can only deploy 3,000 men at a time and remain at top functionality, it carries 9,000 men at arms and 4,000 more of the crew can be given a gun to fight with. With a Titanforge Lance and Mars pattern Macrocannons, you think it’s probably swift death to those who underestimate it, but given your disposition you’d rather avoid combat all together.

Your senior staff consists of all the oddballs and discarded people that were too important to kill, but too unwanted to be kept around any longer. Obviously, after meeting they’ve all had their little quirks that contribute to the success of the ship. From your bear wrestling archmilitant, to your crazy prepared seneschal, down to the creepy astropath, they each have managed to pass your little interviews. Emperor help you when they go out in public though.

Once again you find yourself up to your neck in paper work, trying to read through it and find out all its little quirks and inane rules. Previously you invited Invidia to help you come read it with you tonight, yet in hindsight you find yourself asking yourself why you asked that creepy woman to join you. Given the stuff you’ve seen them perform during your time in Ordo Xenos, you know how quickly things can hit the fan when they’re involved. At the very least, you’ve got a meeting tonight with senior staff later and NCOs to inform them of your arrival tomorrow on the unexplored planet.

    >What do you do?

You summon the seneschal. Unsurprisingly he appears to have been behind you the entire time, but you just didn’t notice it till now. Either he’s really good at just going undetected, or he can magically show up whenever he’s needed. At this point, you wouldn’t if it was both by know. He’s still in his masterfully crafted tuxedo, and when you inquire about the paperwork, he calmly explains, “This was your idea to read over the Warrant of Trade so you wouldn’t be caught in some loophole. If you want, I could read it for you and simply inform you if you’re making a mistake or there’s some clause pertinent about your current actions.”

“Very well Captain Deadlift. However, there are certain sections I would personally advice you about reading. As for the girl… well, I think she’s not the healthiest choice for a confident. As I’ve explain previously, she lacks normal human connections, and considering her powers as a psyker, not someone you would like to inadvertently upset. As our astropath, she should be kept in working attitude, and if you were to… upset that attitude, it could be disasterous for the dynasty. Given her past, and that those who gaze upon the Emperor tend not be to the sanest after words, I would not suggest pursuing a relationship with her. Plus, she fucking creepy.”

Platonic…yeah platonic would be good. At least until you get somewhere that’s not so dangerous to be with an insane astropath. As for the charter, you once again change your mind and go back to reading the charter yourself. While you doubt the seneschal would turn on you, you bet he’s the kind of guy who would manipulate you “for your own good.”

An hour passes, and Invidia arrives on the dot. Truthfully, you suspect she was waiting outside, waiting for exactly for it to be an hour before she knock. You invite her in, and find her appearance rather odd for book reading. Instead of her normal Astra Telepathica robes, she has a sundress and has tried her hair up in a different style again. Where did she get the dress you wonder, before you stop caring and singal for her to take a seat at the desk. Despite her blindness, she manages to find her way there without a single incident, and sits down. “H-hello Lord Captain Deadlift. Where m-m-may I start?”

Thankfully, once you start to work, she becomes all business as usual. Truthfully, you don’t think you could put up with her fucked up creepy attempts at a schoolgirl crush. About forty five minutes into the Warrant, you notice something odd. You promptly follow up on it, and find something most exciting.

Your Warrant isn’t one of those Letters of Marque that are massed produced for idiots who dream of striking it rich. Instead, you have a genuine Warrant, dating back to the great crusade! It was signed by Sanguinius himself, as an gift to a merchant human, whose ship allowed the Blood Angel fleet to turn the tide against the Orks in a battle during the crusade. Apparently, if not for the merchant’s bold action and nearly sacrificing himself, the battle would have been lost and the legion would have taken a massive blow. In gratitude, Sanguinius granted him a charter, and as an act of friendship he would be allowed to take twenty Blood Angels with him where ever he went, and would be able to call on the legion for aid. In return, he would be required to aid the legion whenever he was called upon, and the dynasty would have to renew an oath of friendship every five hundred years.

However, the previous owner did not do so, and the deal was off. As the latest owner of this Warrant, you are not bound to the Blood Angels, but are allowed to make a similar deal with any Space Marine chapter willing to make such a deal. Awesome.

Invidia is ecstatic for you, in her own unnatural way. She does one more of her smiles, and you start to think you’re not going to need eyes where you’re going. Still, finding out you can have marines at your command is an exciting proposition. You saw them in action before once, during the cleansing of Tortured Purity. A deathwatch kill team was called in, and it was awe inspiring. Honestly, you never thought you’d see someone have all their blood punched out, but by the Emperor that marine did it.

Unfortunately though, Invidia hasn’t found anything that exciting, only that when you discover a planet you are allowed to act as temporary governor if you wish, or may choose who will be the acting governor until it is properly brought into the fold.

Also, we should verify this with our Seneschal, and keep quiet about it as much as possible. An hour until the meeting, you ask for Invidia to excuse you so you can prepare for the meeting, and make sure she is going to wear formal clothing to the meeting. Emperor knows you don’t want any to thinking you’re involved with your creepy astropath. After a long and relaxing bath, you being to get dressed and contemplate what chapter you should try to align yourself with. You’ve heard about the Ultramarines, and they seem pretty strong. However, they also sound incredibly arrogant, and getting them to work under you might take forever unless you do something grand. The Blood Angels would probably be the easiest, seeing as the Warrant was written for them, and by their primarch. And besides, what’s the worst that could happen by having a couple Blood Angels on your crew. Its not like they’re mass murdering psychopaths of anything. Of course, you could always leave your options open.

Moving through your enormous closet, your thoughts turn towards the impression you wish to give to the crew tonight. What will you wear?

Military uniform it is! Time to show them you’re down to business. Throwing on your gear, you prepare for the meeting. The second you step out of your dressing room ready, the seneschal is already there and is handing you a data slate covering all the known information on the unexplored data so far. Along the way to the meeting, you memorize it all to impress them, and it isn’t long before you arrive.

The meeting room has a large, oblong wooden table, and your seat is ready at the head of it. As you enter, you make note that all of your senior staff is already present save the Navigator, and several NCOs are there. To the left of your seat sits Ripley, and to you right stands the seneschal, rigid and at the ready. The air is cool, yet the mood is stiff. As your first mission, the tension is high and everyone is curious as to how you perform.
You take your seat at the head of the table and begin.

We do not know if it fell off the grid, or if there were some foul trickery, by xeno, or by our Great Enemy.

We shall go planetside, with one hand extended in greeting, and the other 'pon our laspistols, prepared for any outcome.

This planet shall, by hook or by crook, join with the Imperium once more!

Gentlemen. We will shortly be arriving at an unexplored system that our Astropath belives contains human life.

We may be conducting a rescue operation, we may be recontacting a lost world, we may run into a planet that has fallen to chaos.

This meeting is to plan our approach and arrival.

First, I need to know how quickly we can map the surface of this world. Even if it turns out to have no other value we can still provide data to the Administratum.

Second I need a team of volunteers to accompany me down to the planets surface if and when we make contact.

Third i need to know what our options are if the planet turns out to be hostile... how much force can we bring to bear?

What are our capabilities in each are.

Alright everyone, this appears to be a fairly simple mission. We set down near the highest concentration of humans, set up as Planetary Governor as per my Warrant of trade, search the planet for anything interesting and/or valuable, inform the Administratum of this planet's existance, and rake in the rewards.

The crew seems pleased with your little introductory speech. When you begin to inquire about the mapping, H1256-J47, or Jeff, stands up and says, “By sending out a small squadrons of probes we can have a basic planetary in six hours after arrival. Following that, we can use them as satellites to provide communication and continued ground coverage.”
That question answered, Ripley and Gabriel each stand up, and hand you a report on useable ground forces. Ripley suggests using three two hundred and fifty man units to secure major population centers and possible pockets of resistance, while a five hundred man unit lead by him accompanies you to the ‘capitol’ of the planet. Due to the Aquatic nature of the planet, Chimeras should be issued to in small quantities to the troopers, due to the machines amphibian abilities.

Gabriel suggest carpet bombing everything that survives cannot possibly be human, and thus be killed.

As for the planet turning hostile, the Ingeus Aequitas should have more than enough men and ammo to destroy most pockets of resistance, depending on the technological levels of the planet. Should the worst come to pass, and it is too strong to hold with the men, the orbital lance can be used to strike from the heavens. If there is a fleet and even that is an option, the Igneus should be fast enough to out maneuver and out run any chasing ship, and hopefully return to Imperial space to alert the Navy.

Perhaps we should hold our troops back and descend upon the capitol with an incredible force behind us.
Any resistance? We proceed to hit it with a lance strike from orbit. Then we move in with occupation forces as necessary. Cuts down on possible battles to be fought, and narrows the chances of shedding blood for anybody.

The seneschal says he will gather a squad of volunteers. Given how he seems to work, you grow worried for those who don’t volunteer. H1256-J47 also stands up, and requests that he and a small attachment of tech priests to search for any technology and categorize the local fauna.

This seems to be the end of questions. When you ask for an update, the seneschal says the Igneus will arrive with twenty four hours. H1256-J47 also says the Rhino search has been complete. The engine, it seems, has been overcharged. He requests that he be allowed to turn this data into the Mechanicum.

You are growing to loathe your frequent trips down to the astropath. You’d say it’s the general creepiness of the woman or the fact you’re so far away from any real humans if anything goes wrong that’s the worst of it, but mostly it’s the long trip in the Elevatus with nothing but the most horrifying music this side of the warp to listen to that’s the worst. You’d ask the tech-priests to change it, but you know they’d through a fit about it, and that is one group of people on the ship you’re not too keen on alienating.

As you enter the Elevatus, you notice two things. First of all,, it doesn’t seem to move just up in down, but also on an y and z axis, judging from the places you’ve exited it from compared to where you entered it. Secondly, is that there is no button for the sixty third floor. Previously you became aware of this anomaly, but it was quickly forgotten in the rush to prepare for arrival. Guess it’s just something that you’ll have to ask the cog heads about.

Once more, you stand outside the massive bulkheads that stand as the entrance to Invidia’s strange, Arcane Sanctum. What do you do?

The room is empty at the moment, and for the first time you get a good look around the place. The room is a cold and Spartan, the walls a pure white and bare save for a few holy symbols. Against one walls you see a massive computer, probably so she can communicate with the ship at large. While the computer is against the wall opposite of you, on the walls to either side there is a metallic door, likely automated. You have no idea where they lead, though you suspect one leads to her living quarters. Perhaps this is just her ‘living room,’ where she greets her rare guests? In the middle of the room, there is a plain white table, with two seats. In the middle of the table there seems to be her tea set. There is only two cups, one chipped ever so slightly. You marvel at the craftsmanship of the tea pot and the cups. Surely, they are antiques and were crafted by a master.

Oddly, Invidia has yet to arrive in the room. Where could she be?

All right, I'm thinking that Invidia needs to have an assistant or twelve assigned to give her someone to creepily latch onto aside from us. Not that it's not very nice that she thinks the world of us, but this is not a particularly stable situation. I imagine that if we look through the whole crew, we'll be able to find at least a handful of people who will respond to her in an acceptable fashion.

Also, coming to her quarters is annoying. We should arrange for each of our officers to meet with us on a daily basis in one of our doubtless numerous offices/receiving rooms, just to alert us to anything anomalous under their purview or to speak with us in general. It would add some bureaucracy to our life, but save us a lot of wandering around and keep us well-informed. She can have a timeslot like everyone else, and save us the bother.

After a few minutes of waiting, the door on the right side of the room opens to reveal Invidia in her Astra Telepathica robes. When she sees you she seems shocked, and rushes over to you apologizing for the wait. She explains why she took so long, as she had yet to get dressed, and there are specific routines drilled into psyker’s heads during training, and such was it that she is all but forced to observe these daily rituals. When you inform the seneschal of your plan, he actually seems dumbstruck. A moment passes by before he regains higher brain functions, and he says, “As much as I respect you position on your ship, you can’t do that. You’re less than six hours away from your first official action as a Rogue Trader, and you want to go exploring? Who knows how long that will take, or what you’ll find? Besides, how will you get there? The Elevatus doesn’t even go to that floor.”

“Of course sir. When this affair is finished, I’ll have a meeting arranged with Ripley to search floor 63. Until then, I believe you should focus on the matter at hand.” With that said, he performs one of his mysterious disappearances and is gone. Huh, he seemed pretty against going to deck sixty three for some reason. You wonder if he’s hiding anything about it, but then dismiss the notion.

Following that little encounter, you head up to your study to finish reading the Warrant, only to find someone waiting for you.

Invidia. Figures that creepy woman is waiting for you, likely to ambush you. In hindsight, you begin to think perhaps you should have followed your seneschals advice on her. As you walk in the room, you try your hand at being sneaky for once. The second you open the room though, the astropath turns around and looks at you with her eyes closed. “M-my Lord! Somehow, things spiral wildly out of control. What begins with her cold chaste kiss becomes something much, much more. ‘Oh Emperor, where did she learn to kiss like this,’ you wonder, before you realize she’s probing your mind to find out what you like. She’s a little sloppy at kissing, as if she hasn’t had a lot of practice. It doesn’t matter though, as you realize the implications that she is inside your head, and can tell how you feel about her. All those times you were creeped out, all the times you were glad to be gone of her, she probably knows about it. And yet she’s still kissing you. Man, she does have issues if she still wants to do this with you. Yet she isn’t the only one, you note. After all, you’re doing it too. Still after so long in the Inquisition, where you’re lucky to get laid, and if you do it could be with someone who’s part of a genestealer cult, it’s only natural to do this with the first girl who comes onto you. Right?

It quickly gets even more out of hand, as the two of you move back towards the desk, and you throw everything off and throw her down on it. You look down at her, and she makes another of her creepy, predatory smiles. Still scares the shit out of you, but by now you just don’t care.

An hour later, the two of you lie naked in your big comfy chair. You sit there, holding her, wondering what the fuck just happened. Nuzzles your neck, and you cease to care for a moment.

Then, suddenly, the door opens. In comes your seneschal, flanked by Ripley and Gabriel. For a moment, time stops. The trio stares at the two of you, while you stare back. Invidia, either oblivious or just not caring, continues to nuzzle you. Time resumes, and in one brief moment, the seneschal face palms while Ripley simultaneously give you a silent thumbs up and Gabriel just cocks his head to the side.

    End Part 3

Having an astropath falling in love with you is the last thing you want. After all they are highly emotionally unstable, not to mention mentally fragile. Their job is to send and receive astromessages, basically a fax machine/telephone. She obviously has that "Doesn't take no for an answer" look, and it's unbecoming of a Captain to be sleeping with any his crew. If you need some female/male company, you'll need to go planet side. Or someone outside your command structure, as it could get you in trouble by ordering a lover to do something then have the lover refuse even if you are the captain and you giving in because he/she is your lover. Then theirs the attachment which you have to go save her if you get too attached, and will likely bring more trouble upon yourself.

Either execute her, or find hire a choir for her, so she can resume her job and not bother you the way she has been in the future. That or get a blank bodyguard, she'll take the not so subtle hint to back off.
