But in the back of my head I could always feel the urge to watch a great show like that. Occasionally that would hit me, but no name. Frustrated I had to live with only thoughts about what show could haunt me for so long.

Then I came here, and it was only after seeing a link to a Toonami interlude that I had a complete recall. After more then a decade, I had finally found my favorite anime in the world.

Toonami was... something that really DEFINED an entire generation of nerdy kids and proto-weeaboos. It was, for many of us, the first REAL introduction to stuff like anime, mecha, and the like. I discovered shows old and new alike -- Robotech and Voltron, Thundercats, Dragonball Z, Sailor Moon, Outlaw Star, Tenchi Muyo, Gundam Wing, Mobile Suit Gundam, G Gundam, Blue Sub Six, Tenchi Universe, Tenchi in Tokyo, Big O, Silverhawks, Ronin Warriors, Zoids... and more. Most, if not all, had a custom introduction that replaced the usual opening, but with a style and flair all unique to Toonami. It was classy, and slick, and futuristic. It treated us like we were people of taste and maturity (no matter what the show was), and that what we were being shown was something unique and interesting and worth watching. It was a masterpiece of immersive programming, a scheduling block that combined original music, custom made eyecatches and music videos that combined elements of various shows, and plotlines that engaged us beyond just the programs on air.

It was distinctly Cartoon Network, and it was a sign of a better time for the network, when they gave a real damn about their audience. And I'm not just waxing nostalgic here, I think this is almost quantifiably true. If there was a Toonami Channel, I would buy my own cable service to watch it. I grew up on this shit, it was an element of my childhood that was distinct to my generation, and I loved it and miss it.

Make it a fifteen minute "endcap" to a full on Toonami scheduling block, and I'd be much more down for it. Especially if the other elements of the episode were spread out throughout the broadcast block, laying the foundation and making it so if you wanted the FULL story, you had to watch from 5-8 (Because fuck yeah long scheduling blocks!)

Srsly, two pirates are fought RPG style, group vs 1...and then all the rest fight one on one and bite it in 3 minutes in extremely truncated battles. Aisha's wasn't much more than LOLRANDOMSPEEDLINEHURRICANE ok we're done.
