>>12560037 "Then what do you know?" Cygnis asks beside you, voicing your own question before you, and with more hostility than you would have.
"I can tell you that the Unspeakable One and his cultists desire chaos, destruction, and evil, at all times. Their end goal is, undoubtedly, to enact a greater summoning ritual, and unleash him upon this world again. And, obviously, from this attack, they have members or favors owned in high places. I find it eminently suspicious that no guards walked by during the attack."
"Well, how would they go about doing it?" you ask. As you speak, Cygnis seems to realize that she's holding your hand in a deathgrip, and drops it.
"That I am confused about. Unless the cult is vast, a significant fraction of the entire city, I do not believe they have the resources or strength to pull such a ritual off on raw power. I susspect, then, that they have a magnifier they intend to use."
"Magnifier?" you ask. You dimly recall reading mention of them, or hearing it from Scinnari while you were studying magic. No explanation, though.
"A... quantity that has significant effect on the ritual. Example; if they had the body or form, or the remains thereof, that the Unspeakable One was summoned into originally, it would become much easier. If they could perform it at the same time of the seasons, or, traditionally, the same alignment of the stars, that would also make it easier, though not nearly as much. The same location and same style of summoning are traditionally favored, though the first is somewhat hard to get, in most cases. Used by all casters, when they have something grand they intend...." K'Staalo trails off. "I'm sorry, I seem to have... been sidetracked." For some reason, he reminds you of an absent minded scholar.
"Well, a little bit, at least." you think, considering once again his ophidian appearance. |
