12/17/10(Fri)06:55 No.13187600I don't like the idea of outsiders being outsiders by dint of biology like a werewolf. I don't like the idea of it being thrust upon them by something else like a vampire, a promethean, or a changeling. I don't like it being some kind of divine chance like becoming a mage or being offered life by a geist. I think that this is something that someone should have to seek out. I think that this is the sort of thing that happens through devotion, meditation, mind-expanding drug cocktails, and generally doing it all by yourself.
I think that the event itself should be a mind-expansive or out of body experience. You become your mind, and your mind goes out past the edge of everything to touch something more magnificent than you could ever imagine. You leave a little of yourself behind there with it - tainting it with just a spark of humanity - and in exchange you take something back with you. A spark of enlightenment, the horrible, writhing, grotesque thing that it is.
Also, I think the x-splats are bad and the name of the point stat is stupid. The x-splats should represent either the motivation or method behind coming into brief contact with an Elder God. The point stat, on the other hand, is harder. Now, Lovecraftian magic isn't powered by madness, as anyone who has actually read anything by the man would know. It results in madness. It's powered by faith, sacrifice, worship, and devotion. As such, the point stat should be something like Faith, gained from either having a cult or soaking up the good vibes at churches and temples of Young Gods. |
