>>7428796 >>7428866 I read Dune a long time ago, and I don't remember any of THAT. My inspiration for this person came from one source... Back from dinner. And yes, Homeworld's Karen S'Jet inspired me for H.A.N.A.
"It's alright, 6, you'll do fine." you put a comforting arm around her as you all are ushered into the room, the scientist handlers each looking after their charge. Yours simply stands behind you, silently reading data streaming down his holopad.
Quietly you all assemble according to number across the room. It's painfully obvious who didn't make it, as some gaps in the line are three to five numbers wide. A white clad woman is moving around the line, followed closely by a floating camera - she must be a reporter. You can hear her talking to it - "Today is a day of great significance in the Terran Empire! For decades we have crossed the vastness of space with each ship needing at least twenty dedicated navigators and even more automated technology to manage the smallest details! But today we stand on the brink of a new Era, one where these brave women can guide us across the stars, one where we won't have to be afraid of untrustworthy AIs!"
Six handlers stepped forward, and motioned HANA 1-6 to begin. Without betraying any sign of nervousness, they entered their specialized pods.
"Final Test, Dreadnought "Prime" Simulation, ACTIVATE." The Six H.A.N.A. each slightly jerked as they simultaneously linked into the system. Their eyes glazed over as they each sunk into their specialized role. "Navigation, Online. Weapons, Online. Power Management, Online. Defenses, Online. Communications, Online. Sensors, Online." Begin! "Coordinates, accepted, JUMP!" "Sensors active, hostile detected!" "Weapons, Main Cannon to Bear!" "Power, routed to Main Cannon!" "Weapons, FIRE" "Sensors, Target Eliminated."
And so it went on, each H.A.N.A. intoning their commands as their Handlers beamed in front of the camera... |
