The plot begins with Anastasios II, a Byzantine Emperor during the late seven hundreds. He had some problems with the Assamites and, while he preached peace with his brothers in blood, we carried his secrets away to safety. With the barbarians at our doorstep, what else could our great-great-great-grandsires do?

It next turns up in the possession of Coenred, once the ruler of some backwater place, in what I'd later call home. Living in a cave, he scratched out the divine text in to a dozen languages, such was his skill with languages. In his own blood, he devised the modern formula we use today, inventing new systems of measurement - and beating that talentless hack Clément by some thousand years! You hear me, Clément? You were nothing and proceed to be nothing!

Embracing Ibn Butlan was the only thing we could do once Coenred had finally walked out to greet the sun. None of us at the time could make heads nor tails nor hooves of what he had scrawled across those granite walls (truly, we were ignorant). We smuggled him through the courts of Europe, pausing only occasionally so that he could speak to our peers about the importance of cleanliness and how it could improve the quality of blood within the kine. My heart still sings with regret, hearing how he was blocked up in to the cave, with chalk and enough kine that he could survive for some time.

His instruction was simple - understand what Coenred had translated from the temple built under the auspices of Anastasios, and translate it so that we could finally understand this mystery. As with all great plans, it was thwarted, succumbing to the machinations of our elders, who recognised the potential of what was within the cave.

Years passed and politics happened; wars raged, both between the kine and the kindred, and everything we had worked so hard to build was sacrificed in the name of stability. Those who knew the whereabouts of the cave, of the plot, of the formula, of the plan hatched by those who had known our Father himself, they all fell to flame and to sword. Yet there are those of us who never lost faith, who stumbled upon the scraps left behind and pieced together what we could: the secret of Anastasios, scribed by Coenred, translated and refined by the Hygienic Arab, was somewhere. The information was not lost, but merely diluted. Everyone who has come in to contact with a piece of such divine knowledge recognised, in the darkest recesses of their subconscious, that it was important.

So like urine down the leg of the elderly man, it trickled down for ages. For ages. Down the ages. We find fragments everywhere. It is encoded in the works of Twain! It is there, in the newspapers, if you know where to look. It is even there, on the sides of your garish cardboard box, simply look.

    There. It is there!

Why do they love it? Because they know. It was etched in to the walls of a Byzantine temple, scrawled upon the walls of a cave in north England, passed down a hundred or ten generations to us. It's all connected. From the eighth century to General Mills, it's all connected.

The Ventrue had cottoned on to what was happening and it didn't take long before they took him away from us. The joke is on them - the empire he helped to found helped spread the information further. Now you can't help but see it in every shopping basket in the country.

Jenn, trust me on this. I know you and eye have never seen I to I, and that's how it must be - I'll always be the bloodsucking parasite in your eyes, and in my eyes, well, we both know how I feel.

I met with a Nosferatu who claimed one of his coeterie's sires had helped move the formula across the Atlantic. If the stories are to be believed, it had moved twice to the United States of America in the twentieth century. The first time was in 1911 - our elders had coerced the "late" E Whymper to bring it across by boat in exchange for immortality. There it was kept safe, moving across the east of the country (notably in Raleigh, ostensibly because Whymper knew a man who shared a similar name, I believe), before being returned, intact, to London in 1921. Whymper was not so lucky, falling afoul of local politics in the city.

Next, in September of 1936, minutes after Chamberlain held that paper aloft, we could see what was coming. Across the Atlantic it travelled once more. Yes, we see the pattern here again. War follows this paper. Men live and die to get hold of this information. It's only when the hand of time no longer ravages you, only when the doors of perception are open, it's only then you can see. All of history rotates around this. One. Thing.

I beg your forgiveness. You know too much already, but I can't stand to see you go the way of Kitchener and Nobuyuki. Let us embrace, one final time.
