    You pick yourself up. Your entire body aches. Well, shit. Your squad is dead, and if you hadn't tripped and fell down the goddamn maintenance hatch, you'd be bug food too. You look over your weapon. 10 rounds left in your pulse rifle. Fuck.

    You tap your comm bead. Static. You glance at your transmitter. It's broken. You must have fell on it. Fuck fuck fuck. You take out the motion detector and do a 360 sweep. Blip. Blip. Blip. Nothing. Maybe the bugs left. Maybe they finished off what's left of your squad above and left.

    You look around. There's a hatch leading into the ventilation system in the corner, or, you can use that utility ladder over there to climb back up.

    Suddenly, the damn thing twitches its face in your direction. You pull the trigger. One. Two. Three bursts later and the bug's head explodes like a ripe melon. Acid spews everywhere, but you're too far away to have any splashed on you. Sergeant Killen's corpse, on the other hand, isn't so lucky.

    You quickly pull yourself up. Suddenly, you hear your motion sensor scream. Holy shit. Dozens of them. They're all coming down from the north end of the corridor and they're coming for you.

    You dash over to corporal Milton's corpse, and grab a handful of spare magazines and a transmitter.

    They're coming closer now. You eye the hatch. You can go back down, or you can run toward the south end of the corridor.

    You hear a sudden crashing noise from from the vent. Shit, one of them must have dropped in. You look around frantically and spot a large and heavy looking medical cabinet. Quickly, you summon all your strength to haul the thing over the vent cover. It's blocked, for now.

    You sweep the room with your flashlight. There are a couple of medical kits which you happily pocket. There's only one door, and it leads into the corridor.

    You've got some time to think, private - not much, but enough.

    There are two landing pads. The civilian one is to the north, through the crew barracks and and dining hall.

    Hmm. Corporates should have bugged out when they got word of what's coming, and there's got to be a lot of civvie craft left from when all the refugees landed. On the other hand, corp stuff should be more durable, and they probably have a few backup shuttles.     First, synths will shoot us for certain. Marine or not, they are cleancing the facility. They are possibly from another corporation - marines wouldn't purge W-Y facility.

    Second, we have little chances with them. Wait, possibly for opportunity to strike them in the back, very hard and very fast. Spend whole mag if possible, but take them down. If they won't turn backs on you, wait till they go away.

    The one-armed synth seems to be their leader. He speaks. "Mr.Horinghar, I have a live one here. A Marine."

    You hear some chatter from the other end.

    "No sir. Yes sir. No sir, the target has eluded us. Understood sir."

    He gets off his comm.

    You hear a screech and a hiss from outside the room.

    The lead synth turns to his fellows. "You two, check it out."

    They comply.

    He then turns to you.
