    Hork-Bajir have to be one of my favorite alien races ever. They're just barely humanoid, but not genocide machines like most non-humanoid aliens. Plus, you gotta give respect for a people who can rip their skull apart, exposing their brain, and then press it back together like nothing happened.

    Actually, all of the alien races in Animorphs were pretty cool. I especially admire that KA Applegate specifically said that most aliens are NOT humanoid, which a lot of writers go with and it usually feels cheap.

    Aliens from Animorphs. They're over seven feet tall, look like somebody attached several razor blades to a giant velociraptor, genuinely frightening in combat, but are peaceful and eat bark. They were genetically engineered to eat bark and force plants to release CO2 to thicken the atmosphere of their planet, and were naturally given a low IQ also. However, once a generation you have an anomaly called a Seer, who's a Hork-Bajir smarter than most humans.

    Summary-

    *Visser Three becomes Visser One after the Animorphs rescue Marco's Mother and kill her Yeerk. Soon he declares open war.
    *In a stroke of brilliance, using all of the blood the kids have spilled in battle over three years, the Yeerks do a DNA analysis and determine that the Andalite Bandits are not, in fact, Andalites. The Animorphs then fake Marco's death, find Tobias' mother, give her the morphing power, and try and get everybody else out as well. Tom gets to Jake's parents first though
    *They increase their forces by about 30-40, conscripting crippled kids and giving them the morphing power.
    *The Yeerks steal the Blue Box.
    *The Animorphs blow up the Yeerk Pool and about half the city
    *They also get assistance from the army. Along with every auxillary Animorph, the military makes a suicide charge at the Blade Ship and Pool ship, while the Originals and Erek sneak on.
    *Rachel is the only person on the Blade Ship. She fights Tom, who betrayed Visser One, and kills him. However, she has to de-morph, and is killed in human form.
    *Jake, in a WHAT THE FUCK MAN? moment, flushes the Yeerk Pool aboard the Pool Ship, instantly killing aboyt 17,000 Yeerks. He forces Visser One to surrender, stops Andalites from destroying Earth, gets Ax promoted to Prince, and becomes HERO OF THE IMPERIUM, to the point they consider putting his face on Mount Rushmore. He falls into a state of depression, as does most everybody else.
    *They get a message three years later that Ax has been captured by an unknown entity. They go into deep space, and find the Blade Ship, being controlled by renegade Yeerks, and Ax, who's being possessed by The One (presumably Crayak).
    *"Ram the Blade Ship."

    See, you remember the first issue? Prince Elganfor or something? Yeah, that way his FATHER.

    And elganfor knew it too.

    Later, he gets morphing powers back from elminister for helping the hork bajir.

    Also he morphs into a human and totally taps some chick he saves from yeerk slavers, who turns out to be tobias's mother. He even addresses him as "my son" in the end as he gives them the cube.

    Meteor destroys Earth, about 500 humans escape on spaceship in deep-freeze. Right at book 2 300 of them didn't wake up since the process was flawed, and more die from there. One kid's body shut down during the trip, but his mind was active for the next 400 years, causing him to go crazy and develop psychic powers. More people start manifesting powers, the planet they land on is a ship, more people die, etc.

He and his wife were being controlled by yeerks but their daughter was still human. She lived in a silent hell because she was unpopular at school and at home her parents made no attempt to keep up the human facade. Father would sit on the couch and stare at the TV, mom would robotically chop carrots in the kitchen. They'd never hug her or tell her they loved her or ask her how things were.

Mutant baby becomes an evil alien, psychologically unstable teenagers at each others' throats, there's a body count like you wouldn't believe, and there was surreal shit out the wazoo that turned out to be a giant alien spaceship with an insane AI. They retardify said AI, take it to Earth, find survivors, there's some shit with a conspiracy where three of the mutants evolve into slime creatures, they get eaten by a lesbian, then some time travel in the middle and crazy psychic jesus sacrifices himself to restart the world.

    Too bad all the "good guys" in the Animorphs had some seriously fucked-up morals. If they got to choose between A), defend themselves against their attackers and kill them, or B) do nothing as the attackers enslave and/or kill them, then go on to do the same to countless other races - they'd usually choose B.

    The worst ones were those FUCKING robots. One was basically indestructible and had superman-levels of strength - a single one could've wiped out the entire Yeerk invasion force if it was clever about it ,but doing harmful things to toher creatures was too eotionally scarring for it to stomach doing so. Yeah, asshole, let all those other people fight and die defending themselves while you sit around and cry like the little bitch you are - and the worst part is that nobody ever though this was a morally corrupt position to take.

    One of these was the one where Tobias got tortured I think. Probably the most extreme scene in the goddamn series. Sure it was a "clean" sort of torture, what with the plain clear torture cube and all, but it was extreme torture anyway. Tobias flapped around so hard in that box that he broke his bones and shat himself. SHAT HIMSELF FROM PAIN. IN A BOOK FOR CHILDREN. And there was no "Tobias was still a good soldier and resisted the torture" in that book either. He was about to spill his guts to the Yeerks. The only reason he didn't was because he was either too weak for thought-speak or his torturer was too bat-shit insane at that point to care what he had to say.

Ah yeah, they were totally doing it. They were probably 16 by the time that happened, no way they weren't using that cave for anything else.

    Here's a homebrew Hork-Bajir I made a while back for 3.5

    Hork-Bajir Characters
    Hork-Bajir characters possess the following racial traits.

    * +4 Strength, +4 Dexterity, +4 Constitution, -6 Intelligence.
    * Medium Size.
    * A Hork-Bajir’s base land speed is 40 feet and its climb speed is 30ft.
    * Darkvision out to 60 feet.
    * Racial Hit Dice: A Hork-Bajir begins with 2 levels of monstrous humanoid, which
    provides it with 2d8 Hit Dice, a base attack bonus of +2, and base saving throw bonuses of Fort +0, Ref +3, and Will +3.
    * Racial Skills: A Hork-Bajir’s monstrous humanoid levels give it skill points equal to 5
    × (2 + Int modifier, minimum 1). Its class skills are Balance, Climb, and Jump. Hork-Bajir have a +8 racial bonus on balance and climb checks, and a +6 racial bonus on jump checks.
    * Racial Feats: A Hork-Bajir’s monstrous humanoid levels give it one feat. A Hork-Bajir
    receives Multiattack as a bonus feat.
    * +3 Natural Armor Bonus.
    * Natural Weapons: 2 arm blades (1d6) and tail (1d6)
    * Automatic Languages: Hork-Bajir. Bonus Languages: Common, Galard.

    >You gotta admit, it's a hell of a Sci-Fi setting.

    Christ, yes. I always liked the large scale plot from the Chronicles books: The proud and technologically advanced Andalites accidentally release a race of mind-raping parasites on the galaxy which start expanding faster than can be contained, forcing the Andalites to begin using biological genocide weapons and outright preemptively killing entire planets to keep other races from being turned into mind-slaves. All of this being part of an eternal, universe-scale chess game between a pair of omnipotent superbeings who can only use subtle manipulations to try and tilt events in their favor. Fuck yeah!

    Crayak recruits (rat-morphed) David to his cause, kidnaps Rachel. Several horrific mindrape scenes ensue. A quarter of the way through the book, you realize that it isn't just Animorphs meets Higurashi; it's a series of nightmares. Rachel wakes up. The rest of the book is Crayak doing MINDGAEMS and tempting her to fight for his cause. She outwits him (somehow) and escapes. It's left ambiguous as to whether she kills David or not.

    ... Yeah.

    Is that the confrontation where she stabs him with a fork or was that a previous book?

    Andalites are itty bitty smalltime compared to the Ellimist's backstory. I can safely say that it is the most epic thing I have ever read, in a literal sense. From nerdy alien /v/irgin to sentient intergalactic nation/armada to a reality warping god. Makes Paul Atreides and the Emprah look like babies playing in sandboxes.

    No, previous book. This one comes a lot later in the series, just when you've finally forced yourself to forget David's horrible fate as a rat on a desert island. The funny thing is, Rachel never mentions this experience again, not even to Tobias. Crayak doesn't try to follow up either, and Ellimist doesn't care. Of course, that could just be attributed to LOLghostwriting.

    In fact, I'm going to ask right now if there's anything else like it. The story of ascension from a lowly mortal to a science-fiction god.

    Preferably with less "psychic powers are real and I have a lot of them" and more "I have long ago switched to using artificial bodies, my consciousness is spread out across and controls this entire solar system. Nothing less than a supernova could truly kill me."

    Abraham Valmik/The Spirit of the Air from house of suns. A human who slowly replaces his brain with non-organic parts until he is eventually a massive distributed consciousness spread through the solar system's oort cloud.

    Eventually he scales himself down (since light-speed limits slow down his thought at that massive size) and moves to atmosphere of a single planet, where the locals worship him as a kind of god.

    Hey, anyone remember the book where Cassie got a Yeerk in her head, and managed to convince the Yeerk to let her go, and so the group gave the Yeerk the choice to morph into whatever she wanted, and she picked a whale?

    I liked it.
