Basics about capabilities from the wiki:

Capabilities is a new addition for the purposes of Pokemon Tabletop Adventures.
Each Species of Pokemon move at different rates in various terrains. They have different capacities for jumping strength and physical strength. Some Pokemon can fly while others can breath underwater. Many Species of Pokemon can be trained for being used as a Mount. Others are too small for that but can be used for infiltration as a result of their size. The Capabilities list all keywords relating to static abilities the Pokemon has.
    Examples of some Capabilities:
Overland 1-Overland 10: This is a scale, accompanied with a meters per turn speed, given to each pokemon where Overland 1 is given to Slowpoke and Overland 7 is given to Suicune.
Sinker: Pokemon with Sinker cannot swim
Firestarter: Pokemon with Firestarter can produce flames without using a Move. Some TMs, such as TM 35 Flamethrower, will give a Pokemon the Firestarter Capability as well as the Move Flamethrower.

List of existing capabilities coming up.

Capabilities sometimes have 'types' but these are not the traditional types you find in the rest of the Pokemon cannon. There is also a very important type of Capability: Speed.

Speed determines how much a pokemon can move during their turn in a round, and the different types of Speed Capabilities are for different types of terrain.

Some Capabilities are numbered, such as Power or Intelligence so that players know how capable their pokemon are when it comes to moving or lifting objects, or how competent their pokemon are at following a complicated order that involves them leaving you for a bit to go do task X.

This capability is exclusive to Kecleon, named Blender instead of Camouflage so it doesn't get confused with the Move Camouflage. It adds special rules for how Kecleon's ability to blend in with surrounding object improves its ability in battle or out on the field. Like most pokemon-specific Capabilities, its is not yet finalized.

Yes. Also, Burrow isn't strictly limited to those who are born with Burrow. Any Pokemon who learns the Move Dig will be granted Burrow 1. Any Pokemon with Burrow already, who then learns Dig will have their Burrow raised 1 point.

    Burrow - Speed Capability
Burrow is a Speed Capability that defines how quickly the Pokemon can move underground. After the word Burrow, in the Capabilities listing, a number from 1 to 5 should be listed. The number paired with the Burrow Keyword corresponds with a value representing how much the Pokemon can Shift during a round of combat underground. It also matches with an average speed to be used outside of battle. The holes dug are only as large as the Pokemon who burrows. If a Pokemon learns the Move Dig and does not have the Burrow Capability, they gain Burrow 1. If they already have the Burrow Capability, the Burrow value is raised 1.

Burrow Value Shift Value per Round Average Speed
    Burrow 1 4 meters per round 0.3 mph - 0.5 km/h
    Burrow 2 8 meters per round 4 mph - 6.4 km/h
    Burrow 3 15 meters per round 10 mph - 16 km/h
    Burrow 4 25 meters per round 15 mph - 24 km/h
    Burrow 5 40 meters per round 20 mph - 32 km/h

However, if a pokemon is using the Move Dig, they may use their Overland speed to move underground since the Move Dig is a special technique that ends with an attack.
    >> Anonymous 03/12/10(Fri)00:51 No.8538860
Maybe these should be subdivided into Movement Capabilities and say, Utility Capabilities. Overland and Sinker would fall under movement while Firestarter and maybe Blending would fall under Utility.

Also, What does an Pokemon statted out in this system look like? Say for example, Ash's Pikachu

    Threaded
If a Pokemon has the Threaded Capability they may replace their turn’s Shift with a Threaded Shift. A Threaded Shift is when a Pokemon targets an object and shoots a strong, thin line of silk, or extends a vine from themselves, and then quickly retracts that silk, or vine, pulling itself towards the object if the Pokemon is lighter than the object or pulling the object towards the Pokemon if it is lighter then it is. The line of silk, or vine, may be up to 10 meters long. If you target another Pokemon or person with a Threaded Shift, the Accuracy Check is 6. You may still use a Move on the same turn you perform a Threaded Shift. If a Pokemon learns the Move String Shot, Vine Whip or Power Whip and does not have the Threaded Capability, they gain Threaded.

Regarding that split, in the bestiary, speed capabilities are all listed first since all pokemon have them - then the other capabilities are listed.

But, that wasn't the way it is listed in the Capabilities section, but you have a good point. Done.

I've never stated Ash's Pikachu since its power keeps getting retconned but I'll throw up Red's Pikachu in a bit.

    Intelligence -
The Intelligence Capability is paired with a number from 1 to 7 that defines the Pokemon’s competence when it comes to simple thought. The Intelligence is an average expectancy of all members of that Pokemon’s species. The smarter the Pokemon is, the easier it is to act on their own accord if you can’t command them. This also means that the Species of Pokemon is more competent in the wild and a greater threat to the average Trainer.
Intelligence Value - Meaning - Examples of this Thought Level
Intelligence 1 - Feeble-mindedness - Slow reaction time, unable to do simple tasks
    Intelligence 2 - Deficiency - Self-aware
Intelligence 3 - Dullness - Can’t figure out tasks by self, but can follow
Intelligence 4 - Normal - Can build, use tools
Intelligence 5 - Superior - Average, human intellect
Intelligence 6 - Vastly Superior - Able to function as a leader, act by self
Intelligence 7 - Genius - Computer level thought, human languages

I have already gone through each pokemon and given them their Intelligence. If you wish to know how any pokemon look on this scale, ask away.

Oh right. Breeder has been 'remade' in order to bring it up to power level of the other classes. Previously, Breeders just had better easier checks to make then other trainers and like other trainers could make as many breeding checks as time allowed but now all other trainers are only allowed to make 1 breeding check per day. Breeders can make up to 7.

It was difficult to balance the Breeder, which is why she was so underpowered before, because she's the easiest class to get really silly with - given time in a campaign. With enough powergaming/rollplaying, you could have an army of pokemon who have way higher base stats then the norm and also have a wide variety of Moves across several types. This is bad.

But, my playtester, with what the Breeder was, was not having fun. This is bad too.

Essentially now the Breeder has an even easier time Breeding but now has a limit per day. We'll see what comes of this change through more playtesting.

Ok well I think I understand/get jist of most of them, except Inflatable. Could you give out the specifics on that? And for example, if you were to make a walkway out of ice on water how would the Travel capabilities affect that? Simple +/- or would there be more specific stuff like a water type would have it easier than an electric type (depending on species)? Or either?

These are averages per species. Individual Pokemon may have different levels based on how you RP with them and how much your GM allows you to change you individual Pokemon.

I want to stress how important it is for RP'ing in this game to influence individual monsters. From experience, the GM has to do a lot of notes - just for themselves - to keep track of any quirks individuals have. It becomes easy after some practice though, and you'll find yourself referring to the players' pokemon by their nicknames not their species.

Glad to see you back Stark. I love your work, and can't wait for the final release!

Anyways, I do have a comment on Burrow, however. I really, really don't like how this works:
    >Burrow Value Shift Value per Round Average Speed
    >Burrow 1 4 meters per round 0.3 mph - 0.5 km/h
    >Burrow 2 8 meters per round 4 mph - 6.4 km/h
    >Burrow 3 15 meters per round 10 mph - 16 km/h
    >Burrow 4 25 meters per round 15 mph - 24 km/h
    >Burrow 5 40 meters per round 20 mph - 32 km/h

I'm assuming we are just going to see Burrow X in the stats for different Pokemon, right? So for example we might see Diglett: Burrow 2. But it is really unintuitive to know that Burrow 2 = 8 meters / round.

And I assume all the different movement capabilities have different distances, correct?

It would be much easier to read (and less looking up numbers) if the movement capabilities didn't use meaningless numbers, but instead gave the exact movement distance in meters. IE, instead of Burrow 1, it would be Burrow 4. And Burrow 5 would become Burrow 40.

And instead of having the Dig TM boost the Burrow level up by 1, it could increase it by 5. EG, Burrow 15 become Burrow 20 after it learned Dig.

    Inflatable -
A Pokemon with the capability Inflatable can expand its size up to 125% of its normal size. While Inflated, a Pokemon does not change its weight. To hit an Inflated Pokemon, you must roll -3 during Accuracy Check. While Inflated, a Pokemon becomes Blocking Terrain, you may not target through an Inflated Pokemon. If a Pokemon learns the Move Growth or Stockpile and does not have the Inflatable Capability, they gain Inflatable.

Ice. I have never thought about that. Like using Ice Beam to freeze the ground to make it harder for enemies to get around?
Ice as terrain will have special rules for terrain, and I'll add a Capability that would make a pokemon treat ice on the ground as regular terrain. Does that sound good?

    >>8539457
I think that a lot of the capabilities have potential synergy with moves, Like ingrain and Vine Whip(threader) to pull a larger enemy close. Icing or burning terrain also seems like a common strategy.

Granted, it isn't intuitive by seeing a number - but, on the pokemon character sheet there is room for the speed capabilities and power, jump, intelligence (stuff that every pokemon has) so you won't need to look it up once you stat a pokemon (1-2 minutes to do on average).

    >>8539362
Please. Overload. I'm never around, who else is going to answer questions?
    Sprouter - Grass -
A Pokemon with the Sprouter capability can rapidly influence the growth of plants and flora around them. Over 10 seconds, a Sprouter can grow a plant 1 meter taller or wider than it currently was. Through the use of Sprouter, the Pokemon can also make plants grow up to 125% of the normal size they would become naturally. For a Pokemon to use their Sprouter ability for 10 seconds, they must sacrifice 1 HP. If a Pokemon learns the Move Ingrain, Natural Gift, Nature Power, Secret Power or Synthesis and does not have the Sprouter Capability, they gain Sprouter.

Well, yes you're pretty damn amazing, but I just want to be careful.

Now, in regards to these capabilities and how they could affect or be affected by trainers. Could a trainer utilize their skills to assist their Pokemon's capabilities? Additionally, when it comes to the terrain-controlling abilities, do we have rules for how they affect trainers yet?
    >> Anonymous 03/12/10(Fri)01:42 No.8539699
Terrain will probably be a whole subset of rules in terms of movement and abilities because I'm sure Pokemon with Alt. Movement (Diglett, Magnemite, various water types) may be affected positively or negatively depending on the terrain.

Yea. Or to be able to walk on what was unstable or not there like an ice bridge. I don't know what stats you would have for health but depending on the level of the pokemon/attack (if you can build up/level attacks) you could give the ice an amount of health before it turns to powder or is just destroyed outright. Making it a Movement Capability would work, but you would have to do it for most difficult terrain like sand (desert/beach what have you), rocky terrain (mountain/rough field), water, hot area (like if a fire blast or something just cooked the ground. Probably immune to fire types), lush areas (like jungle/larger garden/any pokemon causing growth or movement of plants), turbulence (flying types would be resistant to moves like sandstorm in the ways of throwing them around. This could also count towards heavier ones.), maybe low light/clarity vision for moves like smog or sandstorm, or maybe even sand attack, and maybe one for Rotom being able to travel within electrical components like electrical wiring or circuits. I can't think anymore off the top of my head but I'm sure I can get more.

Also how would more outside attacks figure into indoors battles like Sunny Day, or Thunder or anything else?

If you want anymore messed up stuff I can think of just ask. Like the attacker pokemon using sandstorm and the defender uses petal dance/razor leaf to make a storm of blades and dirt.

    YEAH POKEMON RP

    So some questions.

Will there be items that augment things other than move strength? For example, items that increase weight class for tackle damage, or ones that increase these capabilities? (Running shoes increase overland, etc.)

Will it be possible for pokemon/trainers to combine certain abilities? Say several work together to increase telekinesis strength, or perhaps when several Beldum get together their intelligence increases, etc.

And out of curiosity, will you be listing/deciding what pokemon have to breathe? Like, I assume things like Goldeen can survive on land, but do Magnetites have to breathe underwater? Geodudes? Porygon?

Thanks in advance, and keep up the good work.

Forgot one thing. How many moves at a time can a pokemon learn? If there isn't, do they ever forget old moves when they become obsolete?

Actually, this really brings up an interesting idea when it comes to double-battles. Would Pokemon be able to combine attacks to form some sort of combo attack? Like if Gust has blizzard blown into it? It becomes an Ice Whirlwind or something similar? Or perhaps it can be made that:

When attacks are combined, one attack must be designated as primary, and one as secondary. The secondary move will simply add its elemental damage to the primary attack, or perhaps one of the special effects that it possesses?

    Alluring - Grass -
Pokemon who are Alluring smell very pleasant. They may attract wild Pokemon easily. Attention is commonly turned toward fragrant, Alluring Pokemon by wilds. If a Pokemon learns the Move Sweet Scent and does not have the Alluring Capability, they gain Alluring.

    Amorphous -
Amorphous Pokemon have an inconsistent shape. They can flatten and reform themselves like water. They can stretch out their body material and condense themselves as well. By doing this, a Pokemon can access places others couldn’t, or bypass a door or two, only to let their non-Amorphous friends in afterwards.

    Glow
A Pokemon with the Glow Capability can emit light from a part of its body. Depending on the variety of wild Pokemon nearby, it might attract Pokemon or ward them away. If a Pokemon learns the Move Flash and does not have the Glow Capability, they gain Glow.

Guster isn't typed out yet but it basically allows pokemon to produce anywhere from a light breeze to a strong gust without using the Move Gust, which deals damage.

Some of the Tag Battler's Features:

    Together!: Tag Battler Feature
Daily – Every 10 levels gained, you may perform this Feature another time per day.
    Target: Your two active pokemon.
Effect: Your pokemon may combine two Moves into one on the slower pokemon’s turn if the faster of the two pokemon moved to the back of the queue on their turn. The Moves must both be the same Elemental type. The Moves must not be self-targeting moves. The Moves must both be able to legally target the target according to each Move’s Range. The Move’s Accuracy Check is the average of the two Moves’ Accuracy Checks. The Damage Dice Roll is both of the Moves’ Damage Dice Rolls combined. Treat the Frequencies of the Moves chosen as you would if you weren’t combining Moves. All Effects are added to the new, combined Move. Name the Move whatever you’d like.

If that was the way Combine Them! was written for play, I'd probably house rule that the types for each attack is figured into the damage modifier and combined (Ex: Combine a Grass and Water attack against a Ground type should yield 4x damage not 1x damage. Similarly, Combine a Water and Electric attack against the same Pokemon should Yield either .5x or 0x). I'm not actually sure what Super Effective and Not Very Effective are in this though, but I think the point stands...

    Evasion Bonuses.

Basically I came up with the idea that generally, pokemon are competent when using a Move that they learn while growing up naturally since it comes to them instinctively. This means Moves generally hit. This isn't a big deal. You have 6 shields. If one goes down, you have another body to put in front of you to protect yourself from wilds. It's like your total HP has 7 chunks. But if the central HP goes down (trainer) the whole body goes down.

Anyway. Back to the Evasion Bonus.
If you are being targeted by a Move, you may add one Evasion Bonus. There are three to pick from. Defense, Special Defense, and Speed.
If you are being attacked by a Move which deals Attack Damage, you may add your Defense Evasion Bonus or your Speed Evasion Bonus.
If you are being attacked by a Move which deals Special Attack Damage, you may add your Special Defense Evasion Bonus or your Speed Evasion Bonus.
Defense and Special Defense Evasion Bonuses are simply +1 for every 5 stat points you have in that stat.
Speed Evasion Bonuses are +1 for every 10 stat points you have in Speed since you can apply it to either type of incoming attack.

This makes defensive buffs super useful.

In fact, how stats work in Pokemon: Tabletop Adventures in general have made stats altering Moves very relevant and not just "oh delete that one" Moves.

    A fine house rule.

The reason it's not there is so that it's less work for those who might find having to figure out that kind of stuff (extra layers of weakness/resistance) really intimidating.

A playtester hated the extra calculations they had to do - so I took it out and simplified it.

But if they have a low speed to begin with, that forces them to rely on the weaker of their bonuses. I'd say it's a fair assumption that players would want to have a few stat-altering moves lying in wait, especially since the move-limit has been upped from 4 to 7 natural and 7 technical. There's some room to burn a move slot on, say, Leer if you're going up against a low-speed high-defense threat.

While I don't know about calling it magic I could believe it being a type of hex or something (contradictory I know). I still think there should be a type of save to go against it. Maybe like as long as the one the doing the reducing uses it, the defender can either do a save wasting their turn (like screech trying withstand the noise/plug ears). This could last until either the attacker quits the attack, the defender gets the reduction, or the defender gets it's save.

Also another question, if (and this is if you allow it, I personally think this would be a neat function if not already made) a pokemon gets crippled or has/gains/born with a disability how would that affect the way the fight/live (granted beyond the obvious)?

Not sure how I'd feel about that. On one hand, it makes the moves harder to just bullshit dodge, but on the other hand, it's kindof a cop-out. I'd just make the source of the move be what it is (For Leer, Tail whip = line-of-sight. Screech, Growl = within hearing. others = Touch, beam, or projectile where applicable) And just allow the pokemon a save based on its defense or special defense. If the pokemon are already engaged and battling, "Looking away" or "Closing your eyes" would fall under the scope of this save, as would covering your ears against the noise. If the pokemon are not engaged and battling, then it would depend entirely on whether the opponent is looking or listening. Blind pokemon would be immune to line-of-sight stat lowering moves, while deaf pokemon would be immune to Within Hearing moves (As well as being immune to taking orders from a trainer.)

That's just how i'd do it though. It mught have problems.

Hope the work keeps up, and again THANK YOU

There is already a Healer and Medic class.

Which brings me back to disabilities...
Pokemon are animals. Those with disabilities would get weeded out by bigger beasts. Which is why you don't see any 3 legged antelope. The lions get them.

Also, pokemon centers can fix injured pokemon. So I'm not sure what the disabilities would entail. Could you elaborate?

Technically all of Duplica's pokemon had disabilities.

Her first one couldn't copy faces, and the second one would stay the same size when it transformed (and even then, it was called mini-dit for a reason)

Then there was Reds eevee... but thats due to tampering... and not really a disability.

It would be mostly for the sake of flavor, I imagine. You go up against a trainer in the field, who looks completely fucked up from his battle-crazy lifestyle. He sends out a one-eyed Kadabra, a rangy-looking three-legged arcanine, and a Machamp with scars all over its body, and missing several fingers. This trainer still manages to give your party a challenge.

Well for such a case where the trainer is an obvious veteran I don't see how the pokemon would have any penalties. The fact that they're veterans would cancel out any penalties from disabilities.

(I'm not against the idea, I'm just playing devil's advocate to see how important it'd be to make this layer of rulings)

Unless you wanted a grim and gritty style of Pokemon RPG (I'd expect someone might try it), things like scars and lost limbs probably wouldn't come up. This would all probably hinge around the nature of a Pokemon Center and whether it's a Magical Healing effect or it's literally a Pokemon Hospital with bandages and morphine and all that.

Another question I've been meaning to ask. Given the way your stat system works, I have to wonder if you've changed Tyrogue's evolution process at all, because from what I could tell if it stayed the same as in the game the pokemon's nature determines exactly what it evolves into.

On that note, are there any evolutions you've specifically changed the nature of? (trading, learned move, held item, Mt. Coronet, etc.) Or are you pretty much leaving evolution to the GMs and just giving guidelines like appropriate level and such.

Couple of Quickies: Do you have any ideas on how Crime and punishment works in this game? Like could someone join one of the Teams and potentially do hard time? What would happen to the Pokemon they had?

Are Team attacks possible? Not just obvious stuff like having flamethrower done by multiple guys for stacked damage, but stuff like Sand throwing + Flamethrower = Glass prison?

Do you do strait up HP like in the games, or is there a health / wounds system?

Stat system was given a reworking. Easier to manage and pick up now, still has its depth though. Natures will not determine a Tyrouge's evolution (anymore) since you could have it hold off until evolving until you've porperly adjusted the stats. (I'll post the stats rules changes over the next few posts)

Evolution for certain things have changed
    >trading
    Happiness/minimum level
    >learned move
    same
    >held item
same with exceptions "keepsakes" can cause the evolution instead

Definitely. Magma/Aqua are cop(ranger) killers. They would get beaten if you're captured.

STAT RULES. (I'll be posting it in chunks)
    HP stat:
    Pokemon’s Level + (HP stat x 3)
As long as the pokemon is above 50% of it’s full HP, an 8 hour rest will recover HP equal to 25% of its Max HP.

    Attack stat:
    Add to Melee, Ranged* damage.

    Defense stat:
Subtract the Defense stat from Damage from Melee or Ranged* Moves.
You may add 1 evasion bonus for every 5 points in Defense when targeted by a Physical Move.

    Sp. Attack stat:
    Add to Ranged, Melee* damage.

    Sp. Defense stat:
Subtract the Sp. Defense stat from Damage from Melee* or Ranged Moves.
You may add 1 evasion bonus for every 5 points in Sp. Defense when targeted by a Special Move.

    Speed stat:
Higher speed stat goes first during round. You may add 1 evasion bonus for every 10 points in Speed when targeted by a Move.

You may only add an evasion bonus once when getting targeted.

    STAT RULES:
How to add to a pokemon’s Stats:

Keep the Base Stats in one column on the pokemon’s character sheet. Keep the stats added through level up in another column. Keep their Actual Stats in a third column. The Actual Stats is the sum of the Base Stats and added stats.

Here is a neutral natured Charmander’s Base Stats. This Charmander is at level 1.
    HP - 4
    ATK - 5
    DEF - 4
    SPATK - 6
    SPDEF - 5
    SPEED - 7

When a pokemon levels up, you must put a stat point into a stat that won't ruin the Base Relation of a pokemon's base stats. The Base Relation of stats is the order of the stats according to the highest Base Stat of a Pokemon, followed by the seconded highest Base Stat and the next highest Base Stats after that, until you have created a list of the order of a pokemon’s Base Stats from highest to lowest. Ruining the Base Relation means when you add a Stat Point to a stat while leveling up, the Base Relation was changed.

    This Charmander’s Base Relation is:
Speed, Special Attack, Attack and Special Defense, Hit Points and Defense
    >> Dr. Mr. Stark !!d0diDeRpO0s 03/12/10(Fri)03:56 No.8541463
         File1268384206.png-(19 KB, 250x600, jirachi messing with giratina.png)
    19 KB
    STAT RULES:
This means you must put a stat point into Charmander's SPEED at level 2. So that the Special Attack of the Charmander does not equal Speed, ruining the Base Relation.

When it comes to ties in a Pokemon’s Base Relation, you never need to keep those two stats equal. The difference between two stats, tied in the Base Relation, does not matter, as long as the next highest stats in the Base Relation is kept higher then the tied Base Stats and the next lowest stats in the Base Relation is kept lower then the tied Base Stats.

Let’s say at level 4, you added to Charmander’s ATK. This is what its stats now look like:
    HP - 4 + 0 = 4
    ATK - 5 + 1 = 6
    DEF - 4 + 0 = 4
    SPATK – 6 + 1 = 7
    SPDEF - 5 + 0 = 5
    SPEED – 7 + 1 = 8

At level 5, for example, you may not add to HP or DEF because that will ruin Base Relation. It would tie with ATK.

Here is that Charmander at level 20, when spreading its stats evenly.
    HP - 4 + 3 = 7
    ATK - 5 + 3 = 8
    DEF - 4 + 3 = 7
    SPATK - 6 + 3 = 9
    SPDEF - 5 + 3 = 8
    SPEED - 7 + 4 = 11
Notice that the Stat points that are being added are almost all equal per different Stat when choosing to evenly distribute Stats.
    >> Dr. Mr. Stark !!d0diDeRpO0s 03/12/10(Fri)03:57 No.8541478

    STAT RULES:
Here is that same Charmander when its trainer is raising its prominent stats.
    HP - 4 + 0 = 4
    ATK - 5 + 0 = 5
    DEF - 4 + 0 = 4
    SPATK - 6 + 9 = 15
    SPDEF - 5 + 0 =5
    SPEED - 7 + 10 = 17
The Base Relation of the Base Stats is maintained here. You do not need to add stats evenly as long as the Base Stats’ Base Relation is kept.

Here is that same Charmander when its trainer is trying to make it hit harder with Melee
    Moves.
    HP - 4 + 0 = 4
    ATK – 5 + 6 = 11
    DEF - 4 + 0 = 4
    SPATK - 6 + 6 = 12
    SPDEF - 5 + 0 = 5
    SPEED - 7 + 7 = 14

This can be frustrating when you want a Charmander who is a Melee sweeper. This is where Natures come in to play.
    >> Dr. Mr. Stark !!d0diDeRpO0s 03/12/10(Fri)03:59 No.8541497
         File1268384350.jpg-(95 KB, 600x377, wailord following.jpg)
    95 KB
    STAT RULES:
A Brave, which adds ATK and takes SPEED, natured Charmander instead would have these base stats:
    HP - 4
    ATK - 7 (Instead of 5)
    DEF - 4
    SPATK - 6
    SPDEF - 5
    SPEED - 5 (Instead of 7)

A Nature will add two to a Base Stat and subtract two to another Base Stat, making a completely different Base Relation in many cases. Now you can focus more on this Charmander's ATK without even worrying about increasing its SPEED.

Look at this Brave Charmander, now at level 20.
    HP - 4 + 0 = 4
    ATK - 7 + 10 = 17
    DEF - 4 + 0 = 4
    SPATK - 6 + 5 = 11
    SPDEF - 5 + 0 = 5
    SPEED - 5 + 5 =10
This Charmander can now potentially be a sweeper with its superior ATK and SP.ATK, plus with some SPEED it gains evasion bonuses. Though, due to its lower other stats, if this Charmander fails to defeat an opponent it is likely to be swept itself.
    FINISH.
Basically, no more 'spacing'. Just keep the order of stats, highest to lowest, the same.

Havent read in depth, but is there a 'fainting' system in place?

One interesting theory I read is that the monsters have their own elemental 'field' around them. As they take attacks, it weakens until they faint. No physical harm is taken as long as this field is up, explaining the lack of blood and broken bones most of the time.

The only problem I really see with this is running random encounters in a game with multiple players. If they argue over catching pokemon and junk. Also 3 guys showing up to take on the same gym leader is kinda like, "Hey, hold on man, let my buddies rest ya know?" haha

I suggest your players have an understanding of the stats and get that out of the way before playing. Otherwise it'll take up too much time as you re-explain it. Once everyone gets it, they can do it on their own.

I also suggest you have several pre-made encounters since making wilds on the fly is kinda hard.

I do suggest glass cannons for your wilds. Makes it easy to hurt your players and keep them careful about who they put in the line of fire. They only have a few shields after all.

When players catch them though, let them re-stat the pokemon.

Do you have all the trainer features? The latest dex i released?

Yeah unfortunately the electric pokemon aren't very, unique or original. Stupid ass pachirisu. I mean, aside from Electrode, Magnemite and I guess the Mareep's electric gimmick, they're just animals who happen shoot electricity. Electabuzz was pretty cool though.
Fuck I almost forgot Lantern. Best doubles battle pokemon ever.

    145 HP.
    (HP stat x 3) + level.
    (15 x 3) + 100.

    >>8541751
Specialized stats are a good idea. Choose 3 stats for a pokemon to be good at. They become useful for task A. Choose another 3 stats for another pokemon. They become useful for task B. Evenly distribute stats? Jack of all trades, master of nothing. Stack stats in one place? Glass cannon. Have fun with it.

    Physical;
Blind: This pokemon can no longer use thier eyes to see. This can be caused by an attack, a Deformation, or birth defect. A pokemon with this disability will get a negative modifier to accuracy until which time it is trained to use other senses to make up for the lack of sight. For prevention (only from gainable, not born with blindness): Seek IMMEDIATE Medical attention. Eye washes and possible surgery may be required. Partial blindness may be possible, but the modifier can never be nulled unless full blindness and improved hearing have been achieved. Example; Psychic pokemon with their minds eye won't be penalized. After so many levels or so much time has passed, an Eevee has been taught to use it's hearing to find it's targets. This can bring the negative modifier back to null or can eventually lead to a positive if given enough training. Normally you will not find a blind wild but those that manage to survive to be a worthy fight are a prize indeed.

    >> Dastard Bastard !aYK4KNSE9U 03/12/10(Fri)04:29 No.8541822
Crippled: There are two types of crippling. One that leaves the appendage intact, such as a broken bone. And complete removal of the appendage. If appendage is properly set, the negative modifier will become null and may even become a positive with the bone setting harder than it was before. With Loss of appendage, a major negative modifier for use of that potential limb will be applied. If Major surgeory was a success then after it has healed the negative modifier will be greatly reduced or nulled.
    >> Dastard Bastard !aYK4KNSE9U 03/12/10(Fri)04:30 No.8541830
For prevention: Get IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION. Not doing so can permanently damage the appendage, loss of the appendage, or death. Non-Medics: Check for other possible severe injuries. If other injuries present themselves DO NOT move the victim. If the victim must be moved they must be moved on a flat board or other suitable replacement. If the wound area (if bone or other structure) has been exposed clean the area with as clean/sterile water or saline as possible. Get to a Medical center within 3 hours. For Medics: Follow all non-medical steps. If the bone can be reset, do so with extreme caution. Once reset, apply sterile bandages. Then apply stint to keep appendage straight. Get the victim to a Medical Center for examination. For Loss of appendage: Keep the victim as calm as possible. Wrap site of lost appendage and apply pressure for 15 min then relase for several to prevent damage to nerves and blood vessels. Rinse (do not scrub or wipe) the severage appendage and wrap in cleanest/most sterile cloth available. Get to a Medical Center IMMEDIATLY. Only major surgeory can reattach the limb.
Deaf: The Pokemon with this disability no longer has function with their ears. For Prevention; Protection of the ears is crucial but not always preventable. Usually only prolonged exposure to loud or high pitched noises will cause deafness. If a pokemon becomes deaf they will get a negative modifier to hearing. This modifier can be nulled if trained to "Feel" the sounds just like a human. For example; Jenny's Growlithe barks after feeling the phones vibrations from it ringing. Example PS: A psychic pokemon will have a negative modifier as well if it does not have a mind link with it's trainer.

Deformed: Some type of injury or birth defect has changed the permanent appearance and possibly hinder performance (both in contests and in battles) to the pokemon, due to not getting treatment in time or the specific attack. For Prevention: Seek immediate medical attention. If burn gels and bandages are properly applied this can be fully healed. If the damage reaches far enough in the body, surgery may be needed to restore proper function. For example an arm having a permanent burn mark. This could either be cosmetic or actually cause permanent modifiers due to muscular deterieration/burning.

Psychological: Most psychological conflicts cannot be prevented. Only cured or relived.
Fears: As with most humans, Pokemon have fears as well. Depending on the specific fear and how much it prevents the pokemon from acting will determine the negative modifier. This can only be null by overcoming that specific fear. Thr more gripping it is, the harder it is to overcome.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder: The pokemon has seen or experienced something so horrible that it stays with them for the rest of they're lives. Like most psychological disabilities, this one is triggered by a memory. If something causes the pokemon to relive that moment, the PTSD has a hold so powerful that it could render the pokemon useless. This only can be alieviated with proper psychological therapist meetings.

Sleeping disorders: Sleep walking/talking/eating/attacking and insomnia are all possible disorders that your pokemon may develop. With all sleep disorders, your pokemon may not get the proper amount of rest if it's up and about. This reduces the amount that your pokemon recovers each day. Depending on how long the pokemon was active the night before, how much rest it had, and how long this has happened continuously, will determine the severity of the negative modifier. This could also lead to malnutrition, attitude problems, and general inability to function. Almost all pokemon, as with humans, remember little if anything while sleep walking/talking/eating/attacking. Sleep Therapy is the best solution. While generalized therapy can help.

If he didn't like the Physical rules I put up I would have just ended there and not worried about it. But he did like them and figured might as well go all out and finish it. On top of that, there are probably people that don't want to play the "My pokemon got one hell of a beating but is fine now now that the battle is over.". Sure they could house rule the numbers and etc once it's all said and done, but it's the basis for the house rules instead having to make it off the top of your head if you do indeed want to play this way. If you don't want to play it. Fine. No harm, no foul. If you would like to play it that way, you can either help build it up or you can house rule it.
