>>9299089 Every time someone lies and says GURPS is only about addition and subtraction, God kills a kitten. There's about 500 skills, each one interrelated, and each one is also usable as another skill at a fraction of the rank, and is replaceable by a fraction of another skill. The system is overly complex and filled with niggling little details. Apparently my character can't have drawbacks unless I pay for them, and can only have Drawbacks up to a certain amount. Apparently I also can't be a special type of character unless I pay for it. Because GURPS starts out at human, so anything else means you have to buy it with drawbacks and points. Not to mention when percentages get involved.
And that's not even touching on the sheer AMOUNT of addition and subtraction. Standard GURPS character is, what, something between 100 or 500 points, with one fourth that available as Drawbacks, which give more points?
Anyone who says GURPS is difficult is a damned liar. There's also the modular nature of the game. A blessing or a curse, perhaps? Because there's some thirty different TYPES of rules to remember. Most can be abandoned, and I did pretty well with a very, very toned down GURPS game.
But it doesn't handle combat well, and I hate everything about GURPS Magic, from the way things are learned to the fact that magic uses FP. So the guy who can run for four days can also cast magic forever. And mages can generally shrug off bullets. Yes, you can buy FP separate from HT, but... I don't like it, no sir. |
