16 KB Dark Guard or Mouse Heresy? Anonymous 04/24/10(Sat)01:18 No.9391660
Mouse Guard is a good game.
Dark Heresy is a good game.

Two great tastes that go great together? If so I'm staking out my PC. Mrs. Brisby, best Imperial Guardsman of all time.

OK, in order we have a guardsman, an assassin, a tech-priest, a scum, the Inquisitor and the psyker. Pretty good party.

Anyone have an adept, arbitrator, or cleric to round it out?

..... given the powers she manifests at the end of the movie... I'd say Miss Brisby would be the party Psyker, not Guardsman.

Heck even if she wasn't pure numbers wise a Cleric would likely suit her better out of the carrier paths available... assuming you re-fluffed it.

    WHY NOT BOTH

Your cell is part of an experimental "Sharing" program by some very radical inquisitors. You may at any time be given responsibilities by either of your superiors.
Yes, they may contradict. They probably will, as a matter of fact.
Yes, it's still your fault if you can't achieve their mutually exclusive goals. Failure to follow orders is heresy.

Seeing she isn't a Guardsman now we're in lack of one. How about these two chuckle heads as Arbitrator (Chip), and Guardsman (Dale) Respectively?

Guess that leaves.. Basil to be the party adept rounding out the party nicely.

... Micky though? Higher up in the chain of command, DMPC I'm afraid.

Pinky, and the Brain? Agents of Chaos no doubt 'just as planed' types... or.. well not just as planned.

I assign her guardsman, despite her non-demonstration of combat skills, because of her huge brass ovaries. Despite not having any kind of superhuman edge she goes up against The Great Owl, Dragon The Cat (twice), and the Rats of NIMH.

Yeah... the other carrier paths are very capable of courage...I mean.. the starting cost of 'Willpower' for Clerics is 100p.. compared to Guardsman 500p

In addition clerics are well rounded, and get a lot more mundane skills that would suit her (like say cooking) rather then being all about kicking butt.

I always hated the part where she just levitated the fucking house out of the mind

Up to that point I was almost willing to believe all the 'magical' phenomena could have been explained away with some kind of sufficiently advanced tech, but no, turns out she was wearing a wizard cloak all along

It kind of fucked her up, and that was with the motivation of saving her children. I doubt she'd be able to summon up the energy for fireballing.

Seems like a good team. I'm making up DangerMouse being a huge douche though. He's got the skills to really contribute, but for some reason he thinks being seconded to the Inquisition is somehow beneath him.

What? Don't be silly there's already a team Adept! Basil the Great mouse detective must be there!

Why? Because forcing him to work on a team with Ratigan would be absolute comedy gold. Forced to work the criminal 'Scum' he's been trying to put away for years, simply because the Inquisition deems Ratigans 'minor grievances' a piety trifle over the use his contacts, and underworld knowledge. Xenos, and heretics are the real enemies after all.

Ratigan would have a freaking field day with it, twisting the knife by acting chummy with Basil whenever possible, often making him appear to be the temperamental asshole in front of the rest of the group.

So who do we got here once all is said, and done? The Party of 7 with one character per career path while trying to keep the source material varied?

-Brisby as the Cleric, moral center, and unofficial leader of the team. Gaining that latent Psyker advance as the game goes on.
-Gadget as our Tech priest (duh)
-Danger Mouse as our Badass Assassin
-Ratigan as our Scum.. until he (inevitably) double crosses the team. Replaced with Fievel a poor street kid.
-Basil as our Adept... who is replaced by Remy if he doesn't survive the double cross mentioned above.
-Martin as our kickass, Power sword to the face, Guardsman.
-Thanquol as our Psyker... cause well.. he got brought up first, and we don't have many others? hoho
-Ugh.. Arbitrator. Don't want to use the Chipmunks. Someone help me out here. Timothy (dumbo)? Jerry maybe?

Then we have our supporting cast, Villains, and NPCs
-Bianca as our Inquisitor, a surprisingly classy boss for the team
-Micky who is higher up in the organization then any of the other NPCs, and may be the secret BBG of the game.
-Characters such as P+Brain(cultists), Chem Rat (Scum), Monty(S-Marine), Big Cheese(cultist), Pysker Mice (*snickers*), Freya/Ink Eyes(SoB's) and so on.

Ahhh It's always fun pondering non-sense for nothing else but the sake of boredom.

It's from the Redwall series by Brian Jacques. It's an excellent series.

Let's have Templeton (from Charlotte's Web) be our Scum, Ratigan's still too much of a BBEG... and face it, Templeton can get anything.

And though I love Thanquol, we should let Nicodemus (from Secret of NIMH) be our psyker, because then we have our entire party from non-GW/Warhammer material...

I like the idea of Martin the Warrior as an Imperial Saint; BADASS.

I concur. He's not only a sorcerer, but the spiritual father of all animated mice. It would be nice to have Bianca's Acolytes take his corporate ass down, but Mouse Emperor fits much better.

Mice are usually portrayed as having a hidden, parallel society to humans, so that means Mickey's corpse is kept alive in a tiny little Golden Throne next to the Emperor's on Holy Terra. His existence is preserved through the arcane science of copyright extension.

I'm picking up a League of Extraordinary Gentleman vibe in that this is only the latest incarnation of the team. Back in the day guys like Splinter, Mr. Ages and Nicodemus were the ones keeping the Mouse Imperium safe. Now the torch has been passed.

Dark Heresy isn't a good game. It uses mechanics so antiquated even WFRP has abandoned them, for Christ's sake.

How can you appreciate the elegance and functionality of Mouse Guard and still play Dark Heresy? Ugh. Ugh, I say.

The Old Mice are legends, one and all. There is no end to the stories told of their exploits and the foes they defeated. But the name of one particular enemy is spoken of only in hushed tones.

Itchy was one of the most dangerous, homicidal and psychotic threats the Mousequisition ever faced. They ran into him again and again, finally ending his life at the cost of some of their own when he tried to instigate a war with the xenos for his twisted amusement.

Now there are whispers that he is back and gathering strength. True or not there is definitely a Cult of Itchy forming in the Mouse Empire. The retinue is tasked with uncovering the truth and ending the threat once and for all.

Clearly a Champion of Chaos Undivided. His thirst for blood is Khornate. He frequently outwits Scratchy with elaborate plans (Tzeentch) and he clearly revels in extreme, sadistic torture (Slaanesh). Nurgle's always a hard one to fit though.

I like the fact that, like his inspiration Moriarty, nobody is able to pin down Ratigan.

Where he came from, what his rank in the Mousequistion was and what happened on that fateful mission that neither he nor Basil returned from are secrets that few mice know and none speak of.

    >>Also, you're all forgetting certain japanese yellow mouse.

    Which would be who?

Any drawfags who want to tackle this, this seems like a solid lineup.

    The Previous Team
-Nicodemus (young!). Secret of NIMH. Psyker and leader. Wears an amulet that boosts his psychic abilities.
    - Mr. Ages (young!) Secret of NIMH. Tech-priest.
-Brother Splinter (he wasn't a Master until much later). Assassin.
    - Miss Bianca. The Rescuers. Noble. Same age as present day. Since rising to the rank of Inquisitor she got anti-aging treatments.
-Bernard. The Rescuers. Scum. Not a hard core one. More of a nervous, career middle-management criminal. With a surprising ability to make friends and an amazingly deep contact network. Bianca's one true love, killed on a mission.
(I'm excluding Jonathan Brisby, since even with the anti-aging NIMH treatments Mr. Ages and Nicodemus are much older than Jonathan would have been.)

    The Modern Age. Version One.
    - Mrs. Brisby. Secret of NIMH. Cleric and leader. Has an amulet giving her the latent psychic advantage. A gift of Nicodemus.
    - Danger Mouse. Eponymous. Assassin. Probably in the background leaning against something in shadows, trying to look cool.
    - Gadget. Rescue Rangers. Tech Priestess.
    - Ratigan. Great Mouse Detective. Scum.
    - Basil. Great Mouse Detective. Adept. Hates Ratigan.

    The Modern Age. Version Two.
    - Replace Ratigan and Basil with the following.
    - Remy. Ratatouille. Adept. Clearly the newbie, probably smiling and giving an awkwards thumbs-up.
    - Templeton. Charlotte's Web. Scum.

I like to think that Danger Mouse had both eyes in Version One and only one with his trademark eye-patch in Version Two, but your mileage may vary.

I'll take a stab at it.

They were his retinue. His acolytes. Each one of them personally chosen and recruited by Inquisitor Roget Anathell.

Until now they had no idea how far above them he was.

Their recruitment had been memorable to say the least. But despite the display of seals and sigils that could not be denied, they had taken place in worlds they were familiar with. The back rooms of taverns, flats rented by the hour or pre-furnished luxury apartments on otherwise empty floors. Now they were meeting their Inquisitor on his own terms.

They had reported their concerns, pleaded for a consultation, begged for a meeting and finally issued the ultimatum (which the bulk of their retinue had refused to sign) before finally arranging this conference. One on his own turf, one for which even the noble in their group was sadly unprepared for.

The guards and scans were to be expected. The luxury of the offices could only be guessed at, but exceeded all expectations. The disdain for security after the brusque search upon landing was chilling. Whatever guarded their patron is was both invisible, and judging from the disdain given to those who had faced Chaos itself, all but certain to kill them dead should they raise a hand against their Inquisitor.

Inquistor Anthell's office was surprisingly homey after the vistas and mind-numbing architecture experienced on the way in. It was only in retrospect that the noble of their group realized that the shift was part of the carefully crafted experience of their entry. A small room, smaller than most Hiveworld apartments, the furnishings welcoming and warm with grox-leather carpeting and walnut shelves loaded with books, scrolls and data-pads.

    continued....

    >>9415753
"Hercule, Miselin, Baroness Andra Mac Kiv. Welcome. I understand you have something you very strongly wish to bring to my attention?" Inquisitor Anathell asked.

Despite the rehearsal the acolytes looked at each other before the noble amongst their number stepped forward.

"Inquisitor, as we have reported, on our missions we have discovered artifacts that we feel need to be brought to your attention," reaching into her pocket, involuntarily hunching as she expected plasma, gravitic or even more exotic energies to plunge into her at the movement, she withdrew the... idols and spread them across his desk.

They were all small, none larger than a finger, but clearly made. Though not by human hands, or by any hands deserving the name human. Varied in materials from gold to glass they uniformly depicted a large-eared, long-snouted humanoid that if you squinted and let your imagination run wild could be interpreted as a mouse.

Anathell, gaze locked with the noble, picked up one of the idols. When he broke the gaze to inspect what was between his fingers the Baroness felt an absurd relief. She was after all a member of the peerage and a mere civil-servant, even one of the Inquisition should not upset her so.

"Interesting. What we have here is a child's prank. I can understand your concern as it is a widespread phenomenon. Trust me, we are looking into it. No need to concern yourselves any further."

The noble heard the gasp and curse of the guardsman behind her. Not a true guardsman, his background was in the PDF of a planet so backwards that their rulers barely rated an Esquire. But a trusted companion despite his low birth, and not one prone to lose his composure.
    >> Anonymous 04/25/10(Sun)04:57 No.9415782
    >>9415768
"My...." the noble interrupted and then paused. Her knowledge of the peerage was flawless, her mastery of etiquette beyond reproach, but until now she had never realized that Inquisitors had no formal form of address in any of the many books she had read and memorized. "...Inquisitor. I beg to differ. This is clearly beyond a child's prank. We have subjected these idols to electron-scanning microscopes and what we have found..."

"What you have found Baroness," the Inquisitor interrupted. "Is a surprisingly widespread children's prank. Are we clear?"

The noble looked back at her comrades, the astonishment in her own eyes was reflected back at her, and that gave her the strength to try again.

"But Inquistor..." the noble began, only to be interrupted once more.

"A widespread children's prank, passing through swamp gas, reflected off the Astronomicon with magnetic polarization assembling random dust particles into forms that too an excited mind may appear as artifacts," Anathell said with finality. "You and your team have proven valuable to this office, and I admire your persistence in bringing any and all possible problems to my attention. This particular matter however is closed. Please do not continue and make me regret this meeting."

The noble instantly threw the well practiced SILENCE DANGER hand-signals she had learned to her guardsman companion. It had saved their lives before and would again if he could restrain anymore outbursts.

"Apologies Inquisitor. We will not trouble you again on this matter," she said with a bow, turning and leading her closest comrades out of the office with a warning glare to not speak until they were well off the planet.

Silence reigned in the Inquisitor's office for a time.
    >> Anonymous 04/25/10(Sun)04:58 No.9415789
    >>9415782
Finally a voice was heard, though not from Anathell and from a point much lower than any human could speak without great effort.

    "Swamp gas dahling? Really?"

Inquisitor Roget Anathell, master of life, death and all he cared to survey across thousands of star systems in Imperial Space looked down.

"Andra Mac Kiv knows what I meant and she rules that retinue. If she keeps up the good work she might be worth inducting some day. In any case, they'll ignore spillover from now on. How are things at your end?"

"Perfectly marvelous dahling. Now if you'll excuse me I need to attend to my own duties."

The inquisitor leaned back in his chair, enjoying a brief moment without the press of duties. The security systems that watched his office and protected him with energies far stranger than any acolyte could know \ ignored the brief scurrying at his feet and the swift vanishing of a pink tail through a hole in his office.

Yeah, I know way too long. I need to twitter more and what-not, but that's how the story came out.
