    153 KB Bloodquest 7- Electric Bloodaloo StonerDM !em3oEn8LAg 05/12/10(Wed)20:55 No.9781242
You glance in the rearview mirror, watching the half-eaten corpse of the crocodilian monster you've defeated disappear into the distance.
"You've definitely got some fucking explaining to do," comes 54's voice squawking out of your cheap cell-phone. "Gone in a flash of what the FUCK, and months later I hear you chatting up the operators in Kansas? Missouri? Where are you now, Kentucky?"
"Kentucky," you respond in the affirmative.

You are Subject #82, Helen Tanner in a life you can't remember. You are the host to a sentient blood that feeds on flesh, and you recently (by your reckoning) escaped from the government-funded Arkham Research facility in South Florida.
Before long, you and another subject, 54, a man named Maksim Wade, found yourselves on the wrong end of 13, a little girl whose sentience seems to have been overridden by some horrible cosmic entity.
In the ensuing chaos, you were hurtled forward several months in time, to the childhood home of 13's host, in rural Kansas. There you encountered another cosmic horror, and fled it with the assistance of several Arkham employees, one of whom you have befriended.
In the few months you were outside of time, Miami and a growing portion of southern florida have been unmade and remade countless times by the entity that was once a little girl. Arkham's facilities in the area have been compromised, and they've lost control and/or track of most of the supernatural, alien, magical, or otherwise inexplicable entities they once contained.
    Also, 13 took your hat.

    An update/overview of your abilities:
-Your blood, whom you have named Garfield, can raise its temperature. This is useful, if occasionally very painful. He loses control of this ability when he does not feed.
-You can extrude whiplike pseudopods of your blood, which make for a devastative offensive when coupled with the first ability. You can also form armor out of the blood to absorb/disperse the shock of blows.
-You occasionally, and so far without you control, experience precognition, usually in the form of extraordinary reflexes or danger avoidance. It was this ability that got you confined by Arkham in the first place

"Shit, I can believe anything at this point, you don't have to listen to the government troops radio'ing for help while they get carved apart by this shit."
"The arm's, uh...well, it's gone. You could say i've lost a bit of my roguish figure."

"Miami might be somewhere you want to stay away from, at least for the time being. All I know is, whatever the fuck is rampaging out there dressed up in a little girl's skin, the gov't can't stop it, and Arkham doesn't seem like they know what's going on anymore, they're running around the country with their heads cut off trying to round up the rest of us."
"The man who's going to know, if anyone is, is the man that pumped you full of burning blood, and then man that offered me a job, or my life, in some mirrored room somewhere. Theodore Arkham. Man who put the whole damn thing together. Money out of nowhere and a burning desire to keep the American people safe from, shit, you and me and whole mess else. He's a god damn ghost, and for all I know, that could be literally true."

"Where are you, anyway?" You ask. You pass several police vehicles headed the opposite direction, towards the site of your confrontation with the reptile.
"Holed up somewhere no one can get to me," he claims, "Up towards New England. Military brought down the curtain pretty hard, not much slipped through, so Arkham's got a minimal presence up here."
"What sort of information are you working with?"
"Ah, all business today, eh, sweetheart? Shit, you know me, i hear the military talking about it, i hear Arkham talking about it, I hear parents calling their children across the curtain, telling them everything's going to be alright. Naw, all the useful information is coming out of Arkham. I've even been able to strip some data out of the piece-of-shit computer system. I only got a portion of what they have, and it seems like a lot of what they had was lost in Miami. For instance, I know that big thing attracting all the attention near you now is Subject 50, and that it consumed roughly 12 head of steer on a daily basis."

"I suppose it's possible, though you're not just walking through the border in your...current sanguinary state, if you know what I mean."
"But if you could make your way up here, getting past the border would have been the easy part. Arkham patients and subjects and whatever the hell else have been eating chunks and burning pieces off the whole damn country. Louisville's suffered some kind of communications blackout, you'll have to go around. Apparently it's Subject 96, and it..."...blah blah, stored in cryostasis until further notice...yeah, I have nothing for 96. But that's just one of 'em. There's apparently something shooting planes out of the sky along the eastern seaboard, not that there are many planes flying anyway. You're going to have a hell of a time, wherever you're headed."

30$ puts you in a decent hotel for the night. you want to be well rested, and you haven't slept since kansas.
Early the next morning, you drive to the Arkham Facility; you are stopped by four guards at the outer fence.
    "Ma'am, can we help you?"
"Yeah, I'm here from Atlanta for requisitions. The order should be in the system."
"If you're an agent, we're going to need to see some credentials."
"Yeah, that would be fantastic wouldn't it? We got a subject down there like a fuckin' rhino that blew up our van with pieces of another car. It's a nightmare."
"Yeah, I hear that. Here, let me look you up real quick."
A few tense moments later, you are waved on into the main complex.

Fluorescent lighting casts a sterile glow on the halls of Arkham Research. The top floor at least seems to be reserved for meaningless clerical work, though several of the 'suits are obviously armed.

Your axle system seems intact, and on the plus side, now you have a bigger rear window.

The winged figure circles back to the front of the building, swiping at the main door with the rapier. The blade remains perfectly rigid at all times, and the doors fall to pieces. He looks at you as your van speeds back past the facility. Then he turns and goes inside.

You bring the van closer, taking the time to look inside the boxes as you transfer them to the truck. A couple people have looked your way, but no employees, at least not yet.

    Inside the first box...
    -A Beretta 9mm
-A brass dagger-style letter-opener, with a swastika as the pommel
-A yellow Bic lighter with chipped paint.

    In the second box:
-A lead box. On the box is the picture of a pair of large plastic novelty sunglasses.
-A sealed plastic bag containing a sealed plastic bag, containing a glass cube containing a tuning fork.

    In the third box-
Two backpack-style canisters attached to a pair of electrodes.

    In the fourth box-
An even larger backpack. It looks like the one wielded by Arkham employees against the cosmic horror you encountered in Kansas.

"What's up?" 54 asks. He sounds sleepy.
"They're taking physical credentials. I don't HAVE any."
"Shit..." he murmurs. You hear papers rustling and the muffled typing on keys.
"Um...give them your employee date from Arkham. I'm going to try and change the destination of your delivery. Fingers crossed."

You pull forward slowly. A young man in standard camouflage motions for you to lower you window.
"Sorry, Ma'am, we need to see at least two forms of personal ID, preferably license and passport. If you have been displaced as a result of any of the government's recognized Pseudonatural Disasters, please pull into one of the specially marked lanes, where you will be search and your person subjected to a background check."

He looks at you for a moment. Then he radios back to somebody, standing impatiently while he waits for a response. He rustles through several sheets of paper he's holding. Finally, he gets a response.
"Yeah, I have an Agent Parigold here, apparently some kind of higher clearance from Arkham?"
"God damn it!" comes a muffled reply over the walkie talkie. "We have enough problems without their half-baked Indiana Jones bullshit. Yeah...yeah, i got the god damn order right here." 54 works fast.... "Tell whoever that little cocksucker is that he better stay in line, or I'll break my foo-"
"Roger that, sir. Will do." The soldier says, cutting off the radio and looking at. He forces a smile, waving you onwards.

54 answers, coughing into the receiver. "Haha, yeah! Not bad for one hand, am I?"
Elated, you drive onwards. Even Garfield seems at ease; it's been a while since you caught a real break.
"Head towards Connecticut," 54 says, "I got a nice place up here I bought a long while back. Arkham seized it back when they seized me, but no one's going to bother coming out here. It's useless strategically, and they think I'm dead in Miami."

He gives you a set of directions to a house in Connecticut. "See you when you get here...it'll be good to see another face that isn't a security feed," he says, and hangs up.
You stop and feed Garfield before entering 54's controlled environment. No sense in risking an accident.
You push through the night, driving despite your bleary eyes. Finally, you pull into the driveway of the two-story home 54 directed you to.

You slip your nightvision on, carefully picking the lock. Thankfully no security alarms go off.
The interior is a sparse, utilitarian design. A large flatscreen hangs on the wall in the pristine, single-couched living room. The kitchen is full of shiny metal appliances looking unused. There's no sign of 54.
After several more minutes of searching, you find that the hall closet is actually a stairway leading down to an added basement. There seem to be fluorescent lights turned on at the bottom.

You descend the stairs, extending one of your whips. You very gently extend the pseudopod around the corner; you have more control, but still nothing like a fully functional tentacle. You feel Garfield straining to get a look.
    "Oh....oh no..." he says, crestfallen.
"What?" you ask, peeking around the corner.
Three flatscreen monitors are displaying a satellite photo of the united states, an Excel spreadsheet/some pdfs, and an open Word document. In front of the computer is a fine-looking leather computer chair, and next to it, an IV tower with a few empty IV bags on it.
    54 is in the chair.
One of his arms is missing, as is one leg at the thigh and one at the knee. His abdomen is wrapped in gauze and his other arm is in a sling at the elbow. How on earth was he typing?! He is slumped back in the chair, which has spun slightly away from the monitors. His eyes are half-open, and a wireless headset rests around his ears.

You look at the computer desk. There are several empty syringes, and a few tissues. the tissues are stained a dark rusty red. At last you look at the open word document on the screen.

    "I don't blame you.
    Give them Hell."

    >Going to end it tonight before you lynch me. I'll try to continue tomorrow like I have been, and I'll archive this thread presently.

You take a few steps back, and sink to your knees, staring into 54's glassy, lidded eyes.
There's no pressing danger; there's no shadow government beating down your door, no eldritch horror slavering for your frail psyche. You're finally safe, if only for a day. You can finally relax.
There's no danger. There's just a beaten, broken girl, a talking blood, and a dead man.
