02/11/11(Fri)22:07 No.13869270The troops swarmed the fields, moving towards the lights of the city; all wore black and various shades of gray, their equipment muffled by silken rags and darkened by cosmetic alterations. Like a pool of shadows, they crept around the perimeter of the walled city, carrying crates, cases, lengthy boxes.
Stealthily, they constructed the first of the siege engines, the dirigibles inflated by covertly-built steam plants and the framework for a full five thousand fifty-foot ladders were created from the trees of the forest, felled in total silence.
Over the course of the next six hours, they worked in unrelenting haste, the few mistakes corrected by the watchful eyes of engineer-sergeants. Eventually, it came to pass that a full two hours before dawn, they were finished, ready to move.
Over the center of the city, in the downtown pavilion, a flare was fired straight up, the dirigibles now dark clouds hanging over the city.
On cue, the entirety of the massed swarm moved up the ladders around the city's wall, standing atop them and holding aloft lengthy boxes, pointing them at the city's heart.
>Happy birthday, Morgorvia!
The speakers blasted the first message as the dirigibles released glitter, confetti and streamers by the ton.
>Just as planned. |
