It is a time near the end of the Horus Heresy. The Emperor lies, broken and dying, having just obliterated his favored son, Horus. His hubris has led to this, the culmination in all the follies of man.

However, days beforehand, he was contacted one last time by Eldrad, prime farseer of the Eldar. Though no amount of time could make up for the willful ignorance he had shown throughout the entire civil war, he knows that he can at least deny the gods a universe of souls to fall slowly to corruption and a stagnant, crumbling empire.

In his final battle with his son, his allows a single blow to pierce his armor, and find itself deep within his arm. The gods glory in their puppet's strike, only to find out all too soon what the God Emperor has planned. Instantly, the Emperor strikes at the Dark Gods through his own son, the mental strain immediately shattering his soul apart as the Eye ripples in agony. Billions of Daemons shriek as they are annihilated beyond recovery, and their masters themselves feel a terrible blow across them. But none more then Slaanesh. For the God Emperor has fulfilled his part of the deal with the Xeno Arch-Witch, and with such force and command that only He could muster, the Emperor rips his hands into the Prince's gut, and pulls out the Daemon-God's stomach. In an act of barbarity dating back to the Emperor's very birth, he devours it.

    (cont)

The Emperor finally falls to the ground, dying. Desperately, he is brought to the Golden Throne, with hope that in the future, he might be saved.

But the Emperor is not yet dead, or unable to speak. Mustering all his strength to give one last coherent order to his people, he explains the pact made with the Eldar. After devouring the stomach of Slaanesh, he now inherits all the souls of the Eldar who die from this point onwards. Their souls shall join with his for all eternity, safe and able to help him project his will. With such an influx of powerful psyker souls, only a handful of human psykers meditating with him will be needed to maintain the Astronomicon he had hoped to perfect.

The Eldar, with their souls secure, will now devote themselves to the preservation of Man, as was agreed. The Imperium's cause is now their own, and shall remain so until the Emperor can rise up once more to defeat Slaanesh forever. As such, they are now a major faction of the Imperium, and the worship of their Gods is just as allowed and open as Machine Cult's own religion.

    So the Scenario:

As a member of the Adeptus Astartes, just after the Horus Heresy, would you stand for the proliferation of Xenos within the Imperium itself?

    >but I don't think many marines would be overly vexed.

Lunar Wolves seemed REAL mad about xenos for whatever reason.

Think of it this way, you're an Imperial citizen, the war just happened, your planet has been the target of constant Eldar pirate raids, while you and your buddies have been fighting (and dying) for the preservation of mankind.

Then all of the sudden you're butpalls with those guys

    1. So does the Emperor now also hunger for all the souls of the Eldar? Or does he just deal with it?

What else would change now that the Eldar are in the Imperium, though?

Besides it looking more like Warhammer fantasy that is, considering there's now at least 2 groups of religions practiced in the Imperium that aren't all about the Emperor.

Infact, wouldn't the Eldar try and stop the Imperium from going all batshit about worshiping the Emperor?

Would they start actively recolonizing worlds now or what.

Presumably, no longer having to fear Slaanesh, they no longer have to raid for torture slaves and such Do the craftworld Eldar tell them to stop raiding the Imperium, do they stop raiding and turn more to the craftworld way, what?

Butting heads with Eldar, the more zealous adherants of the Machine Cult become increasingly insular, distrustful of the xenos and their heretical technology.

Soon many of the most faithful of the Omnissiah confide to each other of visions of the Machine God's will, all but confirming the Eldar as charlatans who had wormed their way into the Emperor's good graces so they could strike down the Machine God.

In secret they took to building their god a holy vessal guided by holy revelations, a machine worthy to house their god in materium. Centuries passed as they toiled in secret, hiding their work from the Inquisition, the Eldar, and their less faithful comrades of the Mechanicum.

In 998.M41, 5 Necron cruisers enter the Sol system without warning on a direct path to Mars, punching through the defensive line and landing on the surface at the Noctis Labyrinth.

While it was publicly announced that the incursion was swiftly destoryed with the upmost firepower, the upper echelons of the Imperium know that the resulting crater of several dozen miles in diameter was not caused by their bombardment. The entire area of the Noctis Labyrinth has vanished along with the 5 necron cruisers and almost the entirty of the Cult of Omnissiah.

All attempts to question the few that remained proved useless as they would only babble on about the return of the Machine God.

    >What happens with the Dark Eldar?

DEldar don't just behave the way they do because they need to, they love doing it. They would likely just continue doing it, but now there's no real downsides.

Craftworld Eldar vs DEldar clashes would grow MUCH more. Think about it, the Craftworld Eldar now have all the reason in the world to start leaving their homes and start colonizing worlds, their race can expand freely and openly, due to their overwhelming protection thanks to the Imperium.

The cost, however, means that they can't just sit by and go "lol those silly, depraved cousins, raping those monkeigh." If they attack an agri world and steal everyone, who do you think everyone looks at and says "Ok so you're going to lead us to their base now, like a loyal citizen of the Imperium, RIGHT?"

When of course, the best people for that would be the Harlequins, who's souls still belong to the Laughing God, and as such are a neutral party.

So then DEldar get pissed because they lead the Imperium into their realm, and go mess up one of their new colonies, and you just get an infinite loop of the two factions really learning to hate each other, and you got calls for genocide on both sides.

And with that, you end up with a bit of, idk, Eldar nationalism? Proud to be an Imperial?
    >> Anonymous 03/02/11(Wed)00:36 No.14096034

On that note, Eldar start breaking out the heavy-duty terraforming equipment. Turning dead worlds into habitable, though harsh, planets in a decade or so, ripe for colonization.

Imagine it: Planets of nothing but Frontier Eldar, Cowboy Pathfinders, fighting of Ork Banditoz and other horrors out there in the wastes.

Horus stands victorious over the battered body of his father. A lone guardsman looks upon the aftermath of the terrible battle and shakes in terror. He will not come the his Emperor's aid, but tremble behind the bunlhead that shields his from the terrible Horus's view.
"Father, you were a fool to shun me!" the bastard son gloats. "I have a new family, one that grants more power than you could ever hope to attain."
The thousands of souls of psykers that collided to form the Emperor argue within the broken body, motives and plans zipping to and fro too fast for even the four gods of Chaos to read, though they had monitored that battle so far.
As one, they finally speak, in a terrible tone that can be heard throughout the Warp.
"Then that power shall be ours."
A flash of red light explodes out from the space-vessel, far above the warring planet of Terra. It passes though all, the hull, the sky, the buildings, and the earth itself. For a brief moment, all those in the Solar System are bathed in the light of Chaos.

Then, as suddenly as it began, it ended. The torrent of hellish red ended, and Ollanius Pius looked once more into the throne room. Gone were the twisted mosters that lined the walls and infected the hulls. No longer was the armor of Horus writhing, as though flesh. He stood motionless, gazing at the spot where his father was mere moments ago. The Emperor was gone.

"HORUS!" The cry came from Sanguinius, still immobile from his wounds, "What have you done? Where is He?"
    Horus sank to his knees.
    "Horus!"
Horus slumped, the motors in his armor moving his massive frame into the posture of defeat. "Sanguinius. Terra must rebuild. Chaos will return-"
The mightly Angel of Blood rolled over to get a better view of his fallen brother. Tears were dripping from Horus's eyes.
    "-with a new Champion."

Okay, I can understand there being friction between the Imperial Eldar and the Ad-Mech, but would that go away over time as the Ad-Mech are slowly brought around to a less religious view of technology? Or would the Ad-Mech reject such attempts entirely?
Would there be a schism, so that there are now 3 factions of Ad-Mech? Loyal, Dark, and a fundamentalist one?

    Well... Honestly?

The Admech would just be all about flipping Eldar tech the bird and digging around for DaoTech.

Amusingly, this would be easier for the Admech in this scenario as the Imperium can just get Eldar Tech now, as the Eldar need SOMETHING for trade goods and they can just have bonesinger's make that sutff in bulk, and the Admech doesn't need to put as much resources in stocking everyone.

Actually, you'd probably see Eldar WITH Marines at that point. Because later-generation Marine armor would start incorporating Eldar methods of protecting souls after death, the better to keep soul-sucking minions of Chaos from getting their fill of mon-keigh.

As would only make sense, considering the Emperor's Pact. The Emperor protects the souls of the Eldar in death, the Eldar protect the souls of the Emperor's servants in return.

Shuriken rifle technology would be far more common in the Imperium, rather than being strictly xenotech. I don't see too much co-habitation on planets, but I do see far more interaction and trade, especially with Rogue Traders and the like.

I have no idea why GW don't do official alt history books, models, special promotional stuff etc. It would make them a lot more money. Most people that are fans of stories are also interested to see what would happen with unofficial changes, as this thread clearly shows. The Emperor is probably able to communicate his wils more effectively in this form, so it's possible he could keep his whole "i'm not a god, just the apex of human advancement," shtick- but even he has to admit he's... rather dietific. Perhaps he would suggest that humanity not just focus their zealotry him, but rather spread out their faith and incorporate the Eldar Gods.
... which may end up backfiring spectacularly as the Eldar become more fanatic. Perhaps the two religions mellow each other out? Eldar are more likely to get up in arms over faith, but humanity as a whole is more mellow?

The Emperor withers under the daemonically enhanced blows of his once favoured son, now the avatar of his most hated enemies.

"Horus, I had thought to myself that it would never come to this. That this secret would be one that would last an eternity. But it is not to be."

"FATHER YOU ARE A FOOL TO SERMON ME AT THE EVE OF YOUR OWN DEMISE. YOU WILL LIE BROKEN AND FORGOTTEN FOR AN ETERNITY AS MANKIND OPEN THEMSELVES TO THE WARP"

And then the Emperor was a bear.

"YOUR PSYCHIC TRICKERY WILL NOT WORK UPON ME FATHER. YOU HAVE VEILED THE TRUTH FOR THE LAST TIME."

    Horus was also a bear.

"It took millenia to realise my dream of a humanity united under bears. But now, my cub, the time has come for you to hibernate forever."

    "WHAT? NO!"

Horus fought valiantly, his lightning claws fighting style largely unhindered by the changes that had taken place. But the illusion the Emperor had put in place for centuries was one that he had not been effected by. He was a Bear of incredible swordsmanship, and furthermore, far larger than Horus in his towering frame.

As Horus sputtered his last breaths, he had one last question to ask, perhaps out of personal desire for truth, perhaps on missive from his dark masters.

"What... what of the Marine legions? WHAT ARE THEY?"

"Human-bear hybrids. It took many centuries to perfect the technology."

    Most likely not.

Having the left hemisphere of your chest carved out is pretty lethal and Slaanesh kept trucking on after THAT, this just goes further on the 'Slaanesh is a pussy' shtick Khorne has.

Actually, Khorne probably finds all this hilarious.

    >> Anonymous 03/02/11(Wed)17:04 No.14102092
In the final hour of the Horus Heresy, Horus stood, weakened but ultimately triumphant over the Emperor's dying body, Sanguinius laying dead in a pool of his own blood, their honour guards slain in the climactic conflict, with none left to witness the Emperor's final moments. Except one. One man, who saw the clash of perhaps the two greatest living warriors, who saw the Emperor stand up to the might of the Chaos Gods and nearly win, who would bear witness to the death of the Emperor. It was a fate he could not bear to see come to pass. He would finish the task the Emperor started.

Drawing the standard issue knife he was given when he joined the Imperial Guard, he rushed Horus. Had Horus been at the height of his power, he would have brushed the attack aside. However, weakened as he was, he could do little to stop the attack (or perhaps Tzeentch just looked the other way...). The blade jammed into Horus' mouth, piercing through into his brain and killing him.

Meanwhile, somewhere in the Warp, the Chaos Gods watched events unfold from a ratty old sofa (well, three of them did, Nurgle had his own chair because no-one was particularly keen on sitting next to him).

"Wow, I didn't see that one coming!"
"That's a first for you, Tzeentch. Still, it's a pretty impressive kill."
"DAMN STRAIGHT IT IS! THAT'S THE PROPER WAY TO KILL SOMETHING BIGGER THAN YOURSELF: JAM YOUR BLADE IN IT'S BRAIN!"
"Khorne, we talked about this, indoor voice please."
"... Fine. Can we at least get the corpse of our champion back, before someone starts teabagging him or something?"
"Wait a sec, I think something good is going to happen."

The sound of screeching metal filled the bridge of Horus' command ship, as Horus' armour slowly lost balance and toppled over, trapping his killer underneath him.

"Pfft... HAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh man, that was classic! The look on that poor bugger's face!"
"Yeah ok that was worth it. Let's get him back now, we need to figure out what to do about getting a new champion."
    "On it."

A flash of red light filled the bridge of Horus' command ship as the energies of the Warp extracted their former champion, his killer still trapped underneath.

"Errr guys? We only have one champion, right?"
    "Well, yeah."
"So how did we teleport 2 people?"
"I dunno, but I think we found our new champion."
"Well he did kill the old one. But isn't he loyal to the Emperor?"
"Meh, fill him with enough Chaos and something's bound to stick."
"Well then, arise, new Chamion of Chaos! Arise... Ollanius Pius."

"... What the fuck have I gotten myself into?"

The end of the Horus Heresy proceeds similarly to the normal version, however the actions of the Chaos Space Marines differ enormously: with Ollanius leading them, they strike out against every faction except the Imperium. Those loyal to Ollanius state that he's simply removing the competition so that Chaos will be the one to wipe out the Imperium. However, more suspicious minds theorise that Ollanius' true loyalties never changed, even throughout his transformation into the next Champion of Chaos....

    So, Eldar Faction's:

High Eldar: Normal Canon Eldar, basically.

Dark Eldar: Even worse then Canon, now uncontested most evil faction.

Imperial Eldar: Hmm... This would be the Craftworld Eldar that joined the Imperium, they would probably be the Eldar military, with the Craftworld's 'Civilian' population's leaving to the Imperial Worlds and geting new Eldar Worlds set up, leaving the Craftworld's as giant mobile military fortresses.

Exodite Eldar:... Probably where all the 'Civilian' Eldar from the Imperial Eldar went, they would probably send most of their fighting Eldar to man the Craftworld fortresses, and would probably come up with a new name, or just call themselves Eldar.

AdMech: Split's up into three factions:

Necron AdMech: fed up with the heretical non Omnissiah approved Xeno Tech, they threw a second, lesser, Heresy, but for the Omnissiah instead of the Emperor, and stole a chunk of Mars that had the Void Dragon in it, believing the Void Dragon to be the Omnissiah.

Loyal AdMech: Canon, but without the Void Dragon Cult and more faithfully beleiving the Emperor is the Omnissiah.

    Dark Mechanicum: Canon.

Well, I can't see them supporting the Codex, and given that Girlyman only managed to push it through because Dorn saw it might cause another war, with extra support it might not be adopted. After all, the Imperium would be a lot more stable right after the heresy if it suddenly had an inrush of Eldar forces to replace the lost forces.
This could lead to them being able to hunt down and destroy a lot of the traitors after they flee, rather than giving them time to recover and make pacts with Chaos. Perhaps if the Tau would align themselves with the forces of Chaos through ALPHARIUSSSSSS! level dickery the Imperium would have a worthy adversary. Guys.
    Remember this comic?
With the alternate timeline, the AI wouldn't have been stopped.
    You know what that means?

To be fair, it's probably just gonna get discovered by the Necron Mechanicus and added to their ranks to "possess" the vehicles of the enemy.

Actually, the AdMech's tech seeking groups would be bigger. Again, they don't have tech monopoly anymore since they got Double Heresied here.

With a bigger task force they wouldn't have had quite as much trouble, and after the Noctis Heresy I don't think any AdMech anything would go unarmed anymore.

Although the explorator team might still be foolish enough to go there and unearth the AI.
And with the alternate past it's entirely possible that the taskforce assigned there never sealed the place at all.

    ...Might?

The Cult of the omnisiah is still as stupid and retarded as canon, they're just more focused on getting Archeotech and have more free time, and enough paranoia to always bring guns.
    >> Anonymous 03/03/11(Thu)04:39 No.14109326

Also, they probably have better guns, and possibly access to Eldar Farseeing to help them scout good places to look.

It definitely won't stop them unleashing a Skynet into the galaxy and creating a new enemy.
That would be interesting, though. New faction for sentient AI singularity?

Why not, it only had the one building, and it was cockblocked by a single squad of PDF troopers.

Plus it never actually got to TEST whether or not it could actually posses anything, Machine Spirit's are actually AI remember? Just not the 'lol human intelligence' kind.

And again, AdMech still hates all Xeno Tech, it was their religion before the Heresy... The First Heresy

    Here's a great alt-history scenario:

The Emperor never made any Primarchs. He took to the void on a great crusade with only an army of guardsmen and his scientists.

    And no Space Marines.

Except that the main reason he made the... Well, the thunder warriors, but basically space marines, was to conquer Terra. Take to the void nothing.

And they promptly died when they ran up against the first ork invasion. Bad End.

Plus I'm pretty sure that Space Marines predate the Imperial Army.

That's actually how I envisioned the Frontier Worlds to be like. Rules are alittle relaxed on the recently terraformed worlds that are in the Frontier classification.
The more rustic technologies are used because they are easier to maintain away from the more developed worlds, until local industry can make up the slack.
