Huh, three nines on a 5d16.

    >Climate or Landform
Oceanic - Almost no free land exists. Aquatic races and cultures may predominate. Floating islands of specialized plants or seaweed may support terrestrial ecologies.

    >Sites of Interest
Fortresses/Strongholds - The PCs spend the majority of their time investigating or raiding enemy fortresses, or defending outposts of their own. For example, in a world threatened by orcish hordes, the PCs might spend most of their time striking at the orc-held border forts and slave villages.

    >Cultures
Renaissance - The major nations of the world have reached a Renaissance-level technology and advancement in art, literature, and society. Player characters tend to be swashbucklers and rakes.

    >Situation
Class Dominance - One type of character plays an unusual role in the campaign; for example, bards may rule the government with ability for song determining one's position, or thieves' guilds may actually run most communities.

    >Historical
Ancient Warfare - A war or catastrophe of epic proportions, civilization annihilated in the distant past, leaving scattered ruins and dangerous or corrupted patches of landscape in its wake.

Submitted for your consideration, OP: The setting is the interior of a world (hollow earth) and the other side's normal enough, this side just happens to be mostly water except where certain extremely deep trenches exist, e.g. the Mariana Trench in reality.

Shit hits the fan when the PCs find the place where water flows into and out of the other side of the world.

So, to recap, what he have so far is a planet approximately the size of Earth. The interior is hollow, filled mostly with water, but there's also an inner surface and light source as demonstrated in pic.

The culture is Renaissance, dominated by a particular character class, and the world is filled with fortresses and strongholds that rival factions attempt to conquer. The world was devastated by an ancient war or catastrophe.

There is no volcanic or tectonic activity, but new islands of thick kelp burst forth from the water on a regular basis, and detached kelp masses serve as mobile but ultimately temporary fortresses and staging points.

The bulk of the interior mass is salt water (I guess kelp-surface dwellers can convert or are drinking a LOT of their own urine), and there are massive communities of aquatic creatures, who likely have their own fortresses.

I can't see a surface race surviving in this world if it isn't at least partially amphibious. Also, the surface is constantly bathed in light by an internal light source. Due to the world type, I'm skipping a good deal of the terrain and climate generation because the kelp surface is constantly changing and I'm not gonna map out the ocean bottom. Assume lots of trenches, because LOL sea monsters.

ROLLAN' FOR DOMINANT, SUBTERRANEAN (KELP CAVERNS, MOTHERFUCKERS), AND AQUATIC RACES.

    CAMPAIGN WORLD RECAP

    >Geography

Planet is approximately the same diameter as Earth. The planet is an internal ocean world, with no major landmasses but significant masses of kelp and other plant life that races live on and in.

There is an internal star lighting the entire surface, with five moons: a huge moon of fire, a huge moon of lightning, an average moon of water, an average moon of earth, and a tiny moon of earth.

The ocean is mostly just shallow enough that the sun's light can reach the ocean floor, but there are significant deeper areas on which the kelp forests cannot grow.

    >Races and Culture

The dominant kelp-surface species is humanity. They live in intermixed communities with other races, and consider themselves equal to other races. Humanity has achieved a technology level roughly equivalent to the Renaissance-era. The major human civilization is a neutral good democracy, but there is a significant though smaller lawful neutral militocracy present.

The other major Kelp-surface races are Sylvan elfs, and isolationist Sylvan folk led by Dryads.

Inside of the massive kelp-forests are sub-surface kelp-caverns that are predominantly ruled by Illithids who enslave other races whenever possible. There is also a significant population of Drow who shun other races, and a smaller population of Kua-toa who ally themselves with other subterranean and aquatic races, despising the kelp-surface dwellers.

The prominent aquatic races are Tritons and Aquatic Elfs, who live in segregated but friendly communities, and Ixitxachitl who live in the deeper trenches of the ocean.

    >Religion
There is a single huge pantheon in the world that all races follow, but the gods within it are racial and represent different races.

The great powers represent Messengers, Moons, and Death. The intermediary powers represent Wind, Fire, the Dawn, Weather, and Death. The lesser powers represent Justice, Competitions, Oceans, and Thunder (x2). The Demi-Gods represent Earth, War, Plants, Guardianship, Sun(2), and Oceans(3).

    >History
In ancient times, a number of natural cataclysms, a magical discovery, and an epic war shaped the modern world.

Historically, a war of conquest, a natural disaster, the growth of a kingdom, a plague, and religious supremacy shaped the current social and political landscape.

Recently, 3 foreign wars, 2 internal wars, a rivalry, a monster incursion, a natural disaster/plague, raids/brigandage, and the rise/fall of a strong/weak ruler have caused localized and global turmoil for the races.

    >PC hooks
There are numerous stone and shell fortresses and strongholds dotting the ocean floors, some of them new, others the remains of ancient civilizations. Thick patches of tangled kelp are carved into catacombs and forts on the surface and within the ocean itself.

A single class (we're gonna go with Pirate/Reaver) has great significance in this world, and a favored past-time of heroes and adventurers is raiding and defending fortresses from foes.

And that's the recap. Let's brainstorm, people! What can we do with this world? How can we make it AWESOME? I'll give my thoughts in my next post, and a lot of you have thrown out ideas, so let's keep this going.

The Thunder Gods should be twins, either two animals that opposse each other( i.e. sperm whale and Squid maybe) or just two humanoid avatars representing a good and evil aspect of Thunder, probagly tying into storms

Twin brothers, lightning and thunder. Lighting was born just before thunder; they love to compete in physical contests, though thunder never can quite match lightning

I'm gonna work past-to-present. Since we have 3 disasters, a war, and a magical discovery, I'm gonna go with the following:

the campaign world was originally a normal (external) planet, and at some point the land dwelling and aquatic races went to war against one another, probably as a result of one of the cataclysms. The magical discovery was a mass ritual spell to shut off the ocean from the surface, to permanently end the war. Second cataclysm is the spell fucking up by turning the world inside out, with nothing but ocean. The third cataclysm, then, would be the very sudden death of every non-amphibious non-magical race as there aren't kelp-continents to live on yet.

As for our small cosmology, I'm gonna say there AREN'T five moons and a sun, but instead the Huge Fire Moon serves as the sun and is fairly stable within the center and the other moons move around it. Having four other moons gives a good reason for a greater power to be of the Moon, the Lightning Moon gives rise to the powers of storms and thunder, and the two Earth Moons give rise to a lesser earth power (races yearning for the land they no longer have).

After the massive kelp-forests regrew, humans who managed to survive through magical and artificial means moved onto them, living similar to how swamp-dwellers would live in our world. Sylvan races survived because when the world was flipped inside out, their giant trees came with them and stuck out of the water enough for them to survive. The trees died eventually, and without the ability to plant and grow more they moved onto the kelp. Similar story with the Drow.

Glad you didn't listen to this douche-fag, OP. I might steal bits of this. KELP PIRATES.

Addendum: Elves engineered (with the help of the Earth power?) more salt-resistant trees through magic. Think giant mangrove swamps, huge rafts of salt-tolerant trees, which root in the kelp
Other races "waste" the offal of the trees, which are used in the crafting of ships. But by carefully shepherding and composting the leaves and fallen trunks, the Sylvan Folk have created enclaves of dirt - not enough to truly live on, yet, but enough to remember. They guard these zealously, and the "Earth-keepers" are revered leaders among their society. The Lord of Earth defends them from the jealoiusy of Lightning, which he alone can truly oppose.
Lightning (a proud and spiteful being, despite his Good alignment) is the servant of Humanity: he seeks to create total equality by striking down the "tallest" of things. Trees, men, and empires have all know his touch. The current democracy is a random rota designed to avoid offending their god.

The meritocracy follows, and is defended by, the younger brother: great sound and power, martial dellight are his joys and hallmark. He is joyful, but capricious, rebounding on ally and enemy alike with relish. Uncontrollable, irrepressible.

The Drow consider themselves the leaders of all. Why? In the fall of the world, they gave themselves utterly to Death, the greatest of powers. Living in tiny enclaves, shielded by His powers from the great Eye of Fire for a time each "day", they stalk the land delivering His will. Each Drow is an avatar of Death, hated and feared by the Folk Above. He must pay for any Life he creates or saves with an equal Death.

(The following is gleefully stolen from the E-jja of Poison Elves)
At his dedication to the Lord of Death, all Drow take up a personal death, as likely or unlikely as it may be: nothing else can kill them. This death is jealously guarded; attempting to force a Drow to reveal his Death is considered an attempt to force him to commit suicide for the purposes of charm, domination, &c. Death actively seeks to thwart all attempts at divination aimed against followers in good standing, and He is unsubtle.
GMs are encouraged to utter bastardy in interpreting the Death, which should be one, plain, English sentence. Some examples of Deaths include "falling backwards out of a window onto the point of a white feather", "Slain by the hand of a man never borne of Woman", and "When this world sees Night again, I shall fall"

    OP as in Overpowered.

Unless maybe the god of Messengers tells everyone how to kill the fancy Drow, I can't see any real reason to justify having that and not having them conquer the galaxy. Just pick "I will die in the vacuum of space" or something and ta-da you're invincible.
    >> Anonymous 03/11/11(Fri)06:28 No.14205424
    >>14205197
Not really, no. See, first of all, you don't know about the vacuum of space. Secondly, any explosion leaves a vacuum. And you said, not that the vacuum would kill you, but that you'd die >in< a vacuum.

Death is a motherfucker, and if you piss him off, it's entirely possible to die.

Anyway, the whole "buying a Death" thing is entirely optional, but it adds humorous flavor and room for dickery to a "minor" race that still, somehow, believes themselves to be rulers.
