03/21/11(Mon)06:11 No.14314516...Wait... what about us nerds? Wouldn't we have fucking TOMES that describe everything in their world? Just carry the Monster Manuals everywhere and I'm sure you could survive rather well in the Realms.
I've been thinking about this from a different angle. Take a random city from the Northern States. Not a big one, but any state that has severe snow fall. Lets got with a simple one, someplace like Buffalo. Buffalo is way too big and would have massive problems. Now, lets go a hundred miles or so to it's east and find Oswego. Tiny city, has a huge port on Lake Ontario. A city this size has a pretty HIGH chance of survival, despite being in AMERIKUH, as most of its inhabitants are hunters of some sort. Camping is a pretty big thing there, as there's pretty much forests all around the city. Not only do they know how to camp, they have to deal with crazy snow in the winter. The fact that this isn't a huge city means that its sense of community would actually factor in. I imagine any city like this to turn into a hunting tribe of some sort/ have a whole bunch of people who turn into Rangers. Rangers with hunting rifles.
Oh, another thing I wanted to mention was that the average human (ie, not obese) can live without food for a ridiculous amount of time. Like, upwards of a week with minimal food. Water on the other hand is what will kill you. That amount of people would NEED water supplies. If you have water, but no food, you have a few days before you're REALLY in trouble. You may wish you were dead, but you'll still live. Just remember, pets are a great emergency food source!
TLDR; Small city could probably appear in Faerun without murdering itself to survive, but shit would still hit the fan. |
