Roast Beef is AWESOME, not gonna disagree with you there, but it's bacons sheer versatility that makes it so great. Roast beef is useless in a lot of sandwiches but the boost bacon gives is applicable to damn near anything, save jelly because jelly bonuses negate bacon bonuses.

Philly Steak and Cheese with caramelized onions here. Complete with a great kaiser roll I got out of one of the splat books. I find it works great, the provolone cheese adds a great smokey flavor and the onions round out the savory with sweet. I wasn't trying to min-max at all, but now my group is complaining that my build is broken.

I don't see what they're complaining about, my build isn't good for any sort of light meal or sweet snack, but our GM really loves to use big-manly-satiating-meal modules all the fucking time, so if I'm dominating the game, it's really because he's not giving the other players a chance.

Do you all agree, or am I really that broken?

I always run with a roast beef build myself. You don't need to pile on condiments and seasonings to make it viable. Just make sure you take pickles and SOME kind of cheese or it's not going to be very interesting to run. My current build's got onions and barbeque sauce on an onion roll. (I know, I know, onion rolls enter splatbook territory but it's just for flavor, it's not like I'm doing that multi-grain crap.)

People keep telling me I need to multiclass into some sort of complex club sandwich abomination (one player suggested ketchup. KETCHUP. IN A ROAST BEEF BUILD.) but fuck that. Anyone who says roast beef isn't playable just doesn't have the meat or pickles high enough.
    >> Anonymous 03/29/11(Tue)17:08 No.14408614
I'm running bologna and ketchup on whole-wheat toast. It's a bit of a challenge when things come down to taste, but it's so fun getting to roleplay a crappy sandwich with common, household origins in a party of minmaxed clubs and hoagies.

It's a legitimate build, but can easily become overpowered if you're not careful. The extra penalties to Filling and Height tend to offset it though.

Now, if he were using onion straws, then I'd be worried.

I'll admit, it's a risk, but hell, high risk for even higher gain? What's not to love? When I level I'm considering adding pickles to the mix ( I know, I know... pickle debate) to max out my sour. Alternatively I could upgrade my saurkraut to include dill or maybe even fennel. Higher risk, higher rewards!

    >>14408869

Nitrates give penalties to Reputation and Healthy. You can get around that by going organic, but the the organic penalties to Value are horrific. That's why you only see "purists" playing organic, unless the GM is runs a lot of Hippies (not Stoners, Stoners have vulnerabilities to Value).

That could go fine, but you have to balance it out. I would suggest penalties to kids and older women, at least. What sort of campaign will you make? Something set in 19th century Germany? Ireland? Maybe Ireland with most other potatoes rotten away and them becoming suddenly a high-class meal? That can be really fun, since all-potato is normally rather low-level.

It's all about synergies. Raw onions are a little bit more universal, and mostly have a higher crunchiness stat. Fried onions have higher bonuses with other meals, add more to the Smell stat, but also have a higher Time cost.
With some obscure splatbooks you can also change almost any of the above points, with stuff like uber-crunchy fried onions or raw onions with a Smell higher than that of Limburger cheese

Shit's delicious, but the cold penalties are horrendous, and it's a build that's mostly viable in Northern districts. On the plus side, it combos well with the vast majority of shit, and because of regional variations on beef hash, I can tweak for health or sheer flavor if I need to. Hoping it's not too OP or cheesy of a build, but it's been serving me well.

Well, nobody objected, so here's a good story for you: One of our players brought a salad to the meal.

That's right. A salad. I'm not talking about a meatless sandwich like that brie, sauteed onion, tomato, and shredded lettuce with honey mustard on dark rye build we talked about last time- an honest to goodness fucking SALAD. Even worse, she decided she'd make it spinach-based. And I'm not talking about a sandwich or even a CALZONE with a salad side either- the salad was her main course. She just wanted to try something a little different.

Well, we figure she's still new, she'll learn her mistake pretty early and we can just have her re-roll. Besides, if she wants to be a side-dish class all the more power to the rest of us, right?

So the first course of the meal comes up. I'm playing my roast beef build and go for the first bite, but it's no good; my sauce wasn't the right fucking kind to tantalize the foe.(Makes me all the more glad we switched to 4th edition rules.)

So instead of hiding behind us, the salad goes in for the next bite. We all think, well, this will be over quickly.

Usually I'm hesitant to bring my girlfriend to the gaming table, as she has a habit of making "special snowflake" sandwiches, but I eventually relented. I was DM'ing, but she broke the whole game in a singe session with a recursive ingredient giving her unlimited deliciousness.

She started going through cookbook after cook book, slicing and dicing, then baking and frying all manner of cheesy and piggy goodness. The end result:

    >slices of boned and rolled pork
    >stuffed with bacon bits
    >wrapped in bacon

Pork, wrapped in pork, stuffed with pork. She calls it the Pun Pun.

My favorite build has been a tuna and relish melt (surprisingly, mayo and miracle whip each work really well) using provolone on wide multigrain bread. Sunflower seed bonus included. Been a strong backbone for the other players.

    The tub is non-spread.
He used the rules for sandwich baggies, and just multiplied it by 4.
Also makes my mayo-man pretty much waterproof too, but how often do you have undersea sandwich campaigns, unless you're playing WW2 "Unterseeboot Butterbrot."
