An Illithid wearing a mask/headdress like Elesh Norn's. The mask should be flawless and featureless (unlike the cracks on Norns) and obscure its entire face except, of course, for the four tentacles hanging down. As for the outfit, something like the Illithid robes as pictured might be good.
Black for both the headdress and the outfit.

I know you normall don't do D&D, but hopefully the MTG aspect might be enough to change your mind.

I'll kindly ask for you to finally draw the classic IG Catachan and mentor of "Ironhand" Straken, Colonel Greiss.
So far there hasn't been a single representation of him and I'd like you to fix that.
He's described as bone-thin and gaunt (which is ironic seeing as how he's a Catachan) and loud, with maybe a bionic or two alongside his ever-present bodyguard, Nork Deddog.
Draw him shooting a Bolt Pistol into a Hive Tyrant's face while Nork rips the head off a Tyrant Guard with his bare arms.

A question: the armor is supposed to be ornate: but what kind of decoration? I know that they're supposed to avoid cultural references (well, that dude sounds a lot like a KKK militant with his pointy hat, but anyway)

so, just frilly baroque stuff or more gothic/medieval ones?

I'd go with gothic stuff personally as it applies to the setting more. Never made the KKK connection. If you wanna de-KKK him, go right ahead. The eugenics marines already have enough issues with Nazism relation. Its hard to use a concept like that without making it seem glorifying of a discriminative hate group.

Tomb Kings may often be pretty insane fuckers, they are basically humans. That happen to be dead, which sometimes made them prone to butthurt and raeg, but still able to deal with foreigners in a civilized manner if they don't behave like cunts either.

The crons, until now, however, are an alien species, frustrated by their own mortality, driven by hate and resent (or an incredibly obsessing, alien equivalent of it) and turned into something that borders with magic thanks to a mind-bending, physics-raping technology. Not to mention avid star-gods that lobotomized most of them.

That's a huge difference.

Your basic explorator in light carapace armor, under an untied red cloak. His respirator somewhat resemblind an insect's mandibles and his jaw-length hair being thick, long, and unkempt. All his bionics, armor, and weaponry were made by him, and bear a very insectile asthetic, chithinous segments and sleek designs.
He also has a hellgun, and a semi-sentient servo skull with a hellpistol attachment and a maternal streak.
