Branched off from >>15058203WHAT THEY ARE: Tyranids of course. Now throw in a bunch of lava and obsidian. Now get rid of Gaunts. Replace units with Monstrous Creatures.Make Monstrous creatures resistant to Krak Missiles and Plasma Weaponry.Deep Strike is through meteors, not mycetic spores.Tyranoformation is seeding the planet with Monstrous Creatures under the surface, and having them awaken en masse when they re-establish Hive mind connection. Earthquakes, massive global warming, continent shifting, and their biomorphs spew tons and tons of ash, sulphur, and magma.Think the Salamander Space Marine chapter in Tyranid form.Pic somewhat related, possible color scheme.
awesome sauce
I like it. Get some spores (modeled to look like exploding meteors). What are you using for troops?
We are fucked.
>Think the Salamander Space Marine chapter in Tyranid form.
>>15059637d'awwwwwwwww
>>15059637dammit!Slaanesh is not the god of sex!Salamanders are not pyromaniac nigger scalies!
Why would they be resistant to Krak and Plasma?
>>15059614Probably Warriors would be the main 'infantry' force, but some form of Tyrant Guard would be the main Shock Troop force.'Spore Mines' would be replaced by a species of new Tyranid that has an evolved pair of glands thats contents mix upon death, creating an incendiary effect. 'Bio-Plasma' created by Carnifexes are stomach contents, and due to the strains incinerator style of consumption, belches a ball of magma at the enemy forces. Renamed 'Biological Magma'.Suggest more ideas. I don't want to do a complete revamp of the Tyranid units, just simply change the way the weapons work, while keeping the Crunchy bits in-tact.
>>15059682not the dude, but I would expect for the same reason the avatar is resistant to flamers and meltas
Hmmm... since the hive fleet mainly deals with 'magma' or 'lava' rather than the usual 'stone' or 'rock' associated with Atlas, why don't we call it Hive Fleet Vulkan? Or maybe Typhon, which sounds more fitting to a fire-and-brimstone hive fleet?
>>15059682Resistant due to the Hive Fleets preference to high-gravity, high-temperature worlds. The evolutionary traits coming from this would be a very thick, very dense hide resistant to temperatures up to [insert standard planet core temperature]. I'll be adding some Hive Fleet strategies in a moment that someone posted from the other thread.
>>15059722Well, the Hive fleet name is still up for grabs, but I ruled out 'Vulkan' due to it border-lining Salamanderishness.Typhon might work, but the Hive Fleets original name was 'Goliath', due to its tendency to use Monstrous Creatures as its attack forces. And then it just evolved into the awesomeness it is now, as typical of Nids.
Ideas from the other post: Hive Fleet Tactics:-Blaze a Trail, Consumed in Flame: Charge in with heavy meat shields while the little ones pick apart the broken survivors with no morale.-Scorched Earth: They don't mind their meat a little crispy. They'll systematically burn all of the organic matter to ash, then come back and feast on the delicious atmosphere and enriched soil later.-Deep in the Bowels of the Earth They Wait: They are patient. They know that eventually the world will die out. So they entrench in one location and slowly pollute the atmosphere with volcanic ash and sulfur. If they remain unopposed, the world with wither and be free for the taking.Biomorphs specific to the Hive Fleet:Flamespurt weaponry. Attach to Carnifexes.
Bumping. Drawfags/Writefags wanted so we can get some fluff going.
Hmm, how about the flamespurt not only on the back, but also the mouth? Spewing fire from mouth is just an awesome thought.
>>15059889The mouth is already pre-occupied by a Magma Spitball. Unless you could work that into some kinda cannon.
>>15059905what if the mouth of the Monstrosities are designed to be able to hold hot lava, keep it hot, and spit it like a cannonball real quick? Or maybe the hive fleet developed some kind of gland or pocket inside their mouths that they can use to hold lava and spit it out real fast?I'm also thinking: do Tyranids have suicide bomber units? Have them be filled with these 'hot pockets'. Send them to kamikaze. Watch molten lava fireworks.
We were here first, bitch.
>>15059717 and >>15059736Well wouldn't resistance to flamers and meltas be more suitable then. A plasma is by definition hot enough to break down everything into ionized gas; even if you could live in lava you could not survive plasma. A krak missile is likely a heat round, being resistant to heat and high pressure still wont save you from having a hole punched in you by a jet of metal moving at several times the speed of sound.
>>15060007... That actually makes much more sense. And also balances it. No Gaunts allows for less tarpitting, but flamers and meltas make the MC's more viable. Therefore you don't have invincigaunts, while you have somewhat durable Creatures.
Archived it for you:http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/15059585/
Rules wise, a lower AP on all weapons associated with the theme should be lowered. Also give warriors a melta weapon they can take. To even it out, reduce the range on all weapons. Also, all units should be under the venomthropes effects other than the cover save. Mycetic spores DS like a mawloc, since they are meteors. But they die upon impact. Not too broken, since your paying for a one time use as opposed to the mawloc who can use it 3 times per game. Hive tyrants would have a psychic power, ability to shift the volatile crust and spew more magma. 18" large blast, str 6 ap 2. Most of these rules dont have many detrements, so i would suggest an army wide detrement such as slow and purposeful. They are patient as you said, so it fits. Most tyranids have MTC, so its not too big. Assaulting will be tough though.
Reposting Hive Fleet name ideasGoliath, Titan, Nephilim, Mammoth, Draconis, Argus, Dullahan, Fenris, Níðhöggr, Catebolepas, Ouroboros, Revenant, Scylla, Tarasque, Wyrm, Yggdrassil
So they're like the locust from Gears of War, only cooler and on fire?FUCKING.AWESOME.
>>15061022._.I have suddenly lost all inspiration behind this Hive Fleet.... Ohwait. Nids aren't Locusts. Locust are Nids.Carrying on. Thanks for archiving this.>>15060655Thanks for balancing them out, as I'm not quite familiar with tabletop rules. Sorry, I'm a DoWfag.>>15060809I think we'll go with Wyrm.
>>15060655Also, is there any way we can start adding some crunchy bits to this Hive Fleet? I need a tabletop expert.
>>15061097Aren't most fleets named after individuals, rather than types? I think Typhon fits better, what with the lava-spewing giants and all.
>>15061166Oh to hell with this, ROLL TO VOTE. Atlas = 1Goliath = 2Titan = 3Nephilim = 4 Mammoth = 5Draconis = 6Argus = 7Dullahan = 8Fenris = 9Níðhöggr = 10Catebolepas = 11Ouroboros = 12Revenant = 13Scylla = 14Tarasque = 15Wyrm = 16Yggdrassil =17
I think I may actually use this for my DH/DW game...
>>15060809Ziz could also be a possibility. Ziz is part of a trinity of beasts in Hebrew myth alongside Behemoth and Leviathan. As both of those creatures have hive fleets named after them, why not Ziz?
>>15061194Scratch this, just give a bunch of names to suggest, and I'll roll a die myself. Got an hour for the full list to develop.
>>15061205For that matter Jormangandr is from norse mythology. So is Nidhoggr. And that is a fire breathing dragon that consumes the universe from below.
>>15061223... I'm not waiting an hour, and the name is decided. Due to the tactics and biomorphs of this hive fleet, it shall now be named Niddhogg, or any other spelling variant thereof.
The yellow on that model is really poorly done. It's too bright, and looks like you've just slapped it on there. Also, it seems crazy - even by 40k standards - to have a bunch of critters that can survive and generate such temperatures. Not without intense psychic support. Like being made of psychic.I sense a lot of samefagging in this thread, OP
>>15061343I personally like it just because its a handy change from the ordinary, and I think "monstrous creatures everywhere" is the most fun kind of army. I think daemons & tyranids should be able to run pure monstrous creature armies, for instance... it gives it a more dynamic feel. And lets face it, 40k has beings who LIVE IN STARS, this doesn't seem terribly improbable.
>>15061343Unfortunately, I have spammed this thread by accident. And those are not my model colors by the way, I was simply using the picture as a placeholder until I could actually generate a model (forgive me) by using DoW2.>Also, it seems crazy - even by 40k standards - to have a bunch of critters that can survive and generate such temperatures. Not without intense psychic support. Like being made of psychic.I'm actually quite curious on how this seems crazy to you, considering that there are creatures in nature that can already produce chemicals that can be sprayed at a boiling point. Hence the Bombardier Beetle.Bringing this to a 40k standard, and simply biomorphing a Tyranid strain for heat resistance and a fondness for Flamespurt biomorphs, I'm just curious as to how this is bordering crazyness. Not attacking you, just want clarification on your criticism.
Image dump time! Sorry, theres no exquisitely painted minis, so now you will have to do with Dawn of War Army Paintings instead. Criticism highly wanted.1/10

This seems pretty awesome. Who honestly gives a shit about little swarming gaunts when you have FUCKHUGE VOLCANO MONSTERS?!

>>15065811Not dead, just had to go to work, and passed out.
Also working on the 1d4chan.org article. If any of you can come up with some suggestions for the fleet, please post 'em here. For the newbies: Hive Fleet Nidhoggr is a tyranid subspecies that has evolved to openly use fire in combat, as well as having the unique addition of not having any Gaunts. This opens playstyle to allow alot more Melta/Flamer resistant Monstrous Creatures that can provide a lot of ability support. Many of the creatures deal with Flamer/Melta/Plasma-like biomorphs, and have several characteristics that set them apart from the other fleets.Deepstriking is no longer by Mycetic spores, but by a less conspicous meteorite impact. The meteorites contain several Monstrous Creatures that will then proceed to burrow themself into the planet, before going dormant. After soil content is analysed, a signal from the Hive-Mind is released, causing the MC's to wake up in a rather explosive manner. Many survivors have reported seeing hills, mountains and volcanoes rise from the earth, born upon the backs of massive beasts who commited to incinerating and devouring whole villages. The massive geological destruction releases caustic gases into the atmosphere, until the planet is turned into an apocalyptic fireball. Then the Tyranid invasion proceeds.
>>15069725This is also Tyranoformation for this Hive Fleet. Extra-Crispy planet.

Bump for community.
I'm guessing nobody is interested in these Nids anymore, eh?Well, lets start a different conversation about them. On tabletop, the Nid weapons act as Melta, Plasm, and Flamers for ranged units, and allowing alot of ranged Flamespurt biomorphs for previously melee only units, like the Tyrant Guard.Due to this new Hive Fleets tactics, you have no Gaunts. How would you play them out as? Remember, they are resistant to Melta and Flamer. Please clear up any inconsistencies and imbalances for me, so we can actually field this as an example of "/tg/ gets shit done".
