He buried his head in his hands. "We... fought, and they died. I, I'm sorry." The young lamia stared at him, anger welling up inside her. Then she noticed tears dripping from his hands. Never once had she seen her father cry. "I killed them. I did it, and you have every right to hate me, but... when I found you in that bed, I knew I couldn't leave you there to die."
