Desperately you weave the winds of magic into shadows, and phantom images of you, animals, slave, and all other types of illusion erupt from your staff. You are thankful, at least, that the winds are bolstering your rudimentary grasp of magic.
You watch as they disappear into the cover of darkness, and you start to make your descent, but one vulturous phantom catches your eye. It is a marvel of a decoy, luminous and briming with magical energy, when a massive rock hurtles through it completely. You never knew illusions could feel pain, but the stone that passes through it visibly rips through the magic binding it and the vulture's face contorts with pain.
And you hear the rumbling turn into small earthquakes, knocking a few smaller rocks off and letting them tumble down the hillside.
The crow still watches the horizon, and it is no longer grinning, but it parts its beak to speak to you.
"I said prepare, champion..."
