And it looks like we have a winner! Or at least I'm calling it here. Sadly, "The Boltgun" feel much like a shipname in 40k, so I'm giving that title to the runner up.

Captain Macarthur Cortez, son of the Sultan of Theta Spire and heir to the Spiral Hive, has left his watery homeworld to face his true destiny as commander of the Panoply of the Seven Kings (his legacy and lineage or complicated, as the preceding trader got around. No more needs to be said on that subject.) At the prow of the Panoply is an archeotech plasma weapon capable of unparalleled destruction. It is known simply as the Boltgun, as one of Macarthur's ancestor's decided understatement was the better part of intimidation.

Sorry to anyone who submitted after I chose the winner. Moving right along, one last group vote for creation: What type of action is the Panoply best outfitted for, and by extension, how does the Cortez line traditionally profit?
Piracy, mercantilism, smuggling, exploration, or something else?
I promise, the adventure begins after a winner is chosen here.

The ship makes its profits in war reporting. It has contracts with all of the seven royal lines of the previous trader to bring them news of the greatest conflicts in the galaxy. This has seen it brave hive fleets for closeups and land on embattled planets to interview space marines. Every mission is a perilous journey in the name of truth, something that has on four occasions put the crew at odds with Inquisitors suppressing the same information.
Its reports are made into sagas and epics on seven worlds by the most talented of bards in the mightiest of courts.

Meanwhile, the crew makes additional profits by whatever wartime profiteering opportunities they stumble across, something that rarely appears in the tales.

You stand on the bridge of the Panoply gazing into the maw of the abyss, on your way to Malfi to "trade spices." However, a servo skull buzzes excitedly through the door, followed soon by a huffing, ruddy magos explorator, your chief overseer of all things technological on the great vessel. They say that the great tech-priests have only 5% of their flesh remaining... if it's true about Magos Barlesson, his 5% is more flesh than most men begin with. "Trader-Captain!" he shouts as he climbs the steps to the dais of your seat, "you must come quickly! There, ah," he pauses to catch his breath, "there is a problem with the cargo!" he finally blurts out.
