Hey /tg/, do you think the major pirate lords (Kaptin Bluddflagg, Kaptin Badrukk, Huron Blackheart, Prince Yriel, Duke Siliscus, etc...) of the 41st millennium know of each other?

Do you think they have a pirate code, or at least informal agreement between to divide up their turf?
    >> Anonymous 07/29/11(Fri)10:35 No.15744579
They probably gather up for drunken debauchery once every X years to drink themselves into a stupor and lie about their achievments. When they are all piss drunk they probably go on a raid to rape, pillage and burn.

    That'd be awesome.
Raiding ships for scrap and souls, dragging folks into the bowels of his floating crypt to make more defleshed. Hunting endlessly for those precious nulls.

It'd be the one necron lord who bothered full waking up, desperately gripping some eldritch coffee in his icy metallic claw.

It needs to be a lord who has lost most of his empire and needs to start back from scratch. A lord with only a few ships, not many warriors and no world of his own, who still enough theoretical authority and personal resources to be in charge, but not enough self-dignity to fight like a proper warlord.

Perhaps have her stuff be less 'Sex and drugs and rock and roll' and more 'Everything must be perfect.' The engraving in the walls of her ship are wonderful looking, with details that go further than any mortal can see, her crew is fearless, fighting perfectly in step with each other.

Not that such things don't exist on the ship. It's just not quite so over. Cultured and pretty evil, not a female sound marine.

Perhaps her ship simply goes by 'The Rose' in imperial space. After all, you can't really suspect someone for being a Heretic because they are seemingly perfect. And then she makes off with skilled duelists and the teenage children of noble families who she thinks have potential, whisked away by stories of adventure.

    Captain Marv the Mutilated.

He was part of the Imperial Merchant Navy back in the day. Took a melta-weapon blast. Just far enough away to not be vaporized but close enough to be royally fucked up.

He was placed in a sterile nutri-goop tank with a mind impulse unit plugged into what was left of his spine and brain. He enslaved the Machine Spirits of the ship to his mind and then bound the minds of the serivtor members of the crew to the ship. Over the next 300 years as the human members of the ship retired they were replaced by servitors bound to his ship.

The only non-servitor members of the crew are the tech-adepts in exile from the Mechanicus. Outcast Mechanicus.

The servitors are notably brighter than their more mundane counterparts and can even survive on their own to an extent, but they will crave the company of the ship. As they are fond of saying 'Part of the Crew, part of the Ship'.

Not sure of the name for the ship.
    >> Anonymous 07/29/11(Fri)14:27 No.15746578
The Rose of Slaanesh isn't just a ship, though it appears so to human eyes. The Rose is in fact a daemon ship, bound to her Captain's will, forced into a shape she finds most pleasing, one reminiscent of the monasteries of her youth, though with imagery dedicated to the False Emperor changed into that of her new lord Slaneesh.

Miriael has a crew made up of freed slaves and fellow converts to the Gods of Chaos. Though she has the Prince of Slaanesh as a patron her crew contains devotees to all the major powers, and some aligned to none, simple vagabonds who have given up Imperial law to pursue individual freedom.

Discipline is maintained aboard her ship by a handsome young man named Kaleel, a square jawed former farm boy and champion of Chaos Undivided. Her personal number two and frequent lover, Kaleel was once an Emperor fearing farm boy destined for a preacher's life until his transport was captured by the raven haired pirate queen. Though he claims to worship all the Ruinous Powers, in truth he worships one being, Miriael. His devotion is rewarded with monsterous strength and a skin all but impenetrable to standard firearms.

Bodyguard, enforcer, rare confidante, he executes her will with a Khornite ruthlessness.

So what could rope this band of vagabonds into a proper fleet? A mysterious summons to a secret location, where they are each informed of a great horde of treasure, gathered before the Long Night by the greatest pirate to ever live, the Pirate King Longinus Argentum. Its deep in Imperial territory, surrounded by forces including Space Marine chapters, Imperial Guard divisions and of course the Imperial Navy.

But that's not all! A hive fleet is inbound to that system!

They better move fast if they want the plunder, and they better work together if they want to reach it. Who knows what the cache may hold? STCs beyond dreaming, galaxies in glass orbs, the very souls of a million worlds, weapons that would delight even the gods! Wealth beyond dreaming, power beyond measure, and a name forever carved into the heart of the galaxy.

This makes sense as many crews are going to be mercenary in nature and a captain will need someone whom he can trust leading the troops.

so, how about this for general games.
1 battleship to serve as a flagship.
    2 cruisers
    3-5 smaller ships.

Boarding actions only happen on the battleships and cruisers.
On each cruiser a 160 pt kill team is the command crew and there are 500 points to spend on the rest of the fighting crew.
On the flagship its a 200 pts kill team and 750 points of crew.
Other races will use similar class ships for cruisers and battleships. (I need to look at BFG)

    Crew limitations:
    no vehicles
    no monstrous creatures
no/limited elite units, (no more than 1-2 maybe?)

Looking through the core book, it puts the higher end imperial ships (including battleships) out of the price range, but most classes of cruiser are available, chaos has a bit more to choose from, including a battleship that would take all their points. Eldar could field a cruiser or a swarm of frigates. Orks aren't too limited, no options restricted for them.

again, this is going by the core book

    >> Anonymous 07/29/11(Fri)17:56 No.15748936
    For boarding system:
We have 2 types of boarding, Locked boarding and Unlocked boarding.
During Locked boarding the ships involved are frozen in place until the boarding is completed.
The defense has to try and push the boarders pack. If they do they can choose to counter board.

In unlocked a ship flys by and launches assault craft. The boarders are tying to take an objective which will either hijack the ship, destroy it, or just render it useless. As long as the defenders hold the objective the ship operates as normal.

Imperium's cheapest is 345, the retribution class, which is little more than a ship of the line IN SPACE.

Chaos's cheapest is the Desolator at 300 points.

however, both sides need at least 3 cruisers before they can even field a battleship, so its more like 1000 points per side before one can be fielded.

I honestly think we should just stick it a 500 points and disallow battleships. Pirates did prefer smaller, speedier ships after all and those battleships are REALLY slow

You know how large a normal 40k spaceship is? A standard table with terrain wouldn't be enough to represent both the bridge and engine room of a ship. I'd rather suggest that the table would represent 1 part of the ship (like engineering or a certain gun battery) and there'd be sub-objectives in each part. Like, engineering would have gravity control, engines and life support. An unlucky boarding party could arrive in the Black Holds, having to fight monsters and feral mutants even before the real defenders arrive.

Also, remember 40k has teleporting troops. It would be a nice feature if the defending player deployed all his troops around the airlock only to be met with a bunch of decoy servitors and the main boarding party teleporting behind them.

Capturing the ship takes 2 boarding actions that result in the defenders routing or being killed. Obviously, any bridge members killed in the last engagement were merely wounded/played dead/said screw this and fell back to a more defensible position/you know what I mean.

    Also: some terrain/objective ideas
Weapon/Lance gun: reduces the strangth of one of the ships weapons/lance batteries by 1 if destroyed
Engines: ship loses 2d6 cm of movement
Communications: count-as critical damage, ship may not move in any direction other than straight ahead until a 6 is rolled when repairing
Pub: Leadership of the crew/bridge is reduced by 1 until the end of the game. Ship's leadership reduced by 1

I suppose deepstiking could still apply for units that have it regularly.
I think for sake of simpleness we should assume they land where they want. Its more of a representation of the fight for the ship. There would normally be hundreds of people in a boarding action, not only 700 pts worth. So it has all the ship and fewer forces
    >> Anonymous 07/29/11(Fri)19:18 No.15749623
    >>15749613

It could just represent the "main" boarding action, or the one where the heaviest-hitting troops are. It can be assumed that there are other teams boarding other areas of the ship in the meantime.

They might not necessarily be the actual parts themselves though. after all, taking out the power cables that lead to a weapon could disable just as well as destroying the weapon itself.

Also, its more fun to have them closer together, leads to more chaos

Anyone have the Rogue Trader supplement with the Ork ship upgrades? There's a lot of stuff there that can serve as objectives for a boarding party.

Also, the introductory adventure to Black Crusade has the characters fight inside an Inquisition prison ship. It has stuff that's relevant to include, like sentry turrets.

Here's a go at a Space marine flagship crew. Comments/criticism?

    Bridge (250 pts):
    Captain (100pts)
    powersword (15 Pts)
Sterngaurd (25pts going by the points for additional members)
    Plasma Pistol+ chainsword (15 pts)
Space Marine sergeant (26pts (additional members + 10))
    plasma gun (10 pts)
Scout Seargent (23 pts (additional members + 10))
    Heavy bolter (10 pts)
    Space Marine Sergent (26 pts)

    Crew (490Pts):
    Space marine squad (90 pts)
    5 additional members (80 pts)
    1 plasma gun (10 pts)
    1 missile launcher (free)
    Space marine squad (90 pts)
    5 additional members (80 pts)
    1 flamer (free)
    1 heavy bolter (free)
    Assault squad (100 pts)
    1 Lightning claws (30 pts)
    1 Flamer (10 pts)

I managed to work out the price of individual guys for the bridge by taking the base cost of the squad and subtracting the price of additional members for however many "normal" ones there were, and Sargents were always and additional 10 points. this may vary from codex to codex, but its usually constant

All Independent members of the kill team count as HQ, I think. A Kroot Shaper would certainly make a sensible leader of the assaul team. Especially in regards to the Tau pirate force posted up thread. I don't see an air caste captain leading a raid. He'd leave it to his Shaper second-in-command.

One of the Points will join one Kaleel with his flamer, while the other two will join the heavy weapons teams (Combining the Autocannon ones together with the command squad)

A couple of good assaulters, a lot of bodies to protect them and army wide leadership 9 or 10, making them a very brave group of heretics.

Someone once described Mordrak as Davy Jones of Psykers.

"Mordrak's Ghost Terminators, but drawn as warp-tortured souls, unable to pass on to the afterlife they were meant to.

I view Mordrak like Davy Jones from Pirates of the Carribean. He should totally be seen as the ferryman of the dead. And fluffwise it would be fun to make a successor chapter based upon that. If you choose to draw Mordrak, give him a lantern and maybe fluff the hammer as a scythe, so that it fits the concept of him leading the dead away. If a face is visible it should be very solemn looking, if not, perhaps a helmet similar to those of the Death Masks worn by the Sanguinary guard. A rather featureless face, with a single tear running down the cheek. Perhaps maybe some strandlike wires that frame it to emulate hair (think like the helmet on Predator from the Predator series, where their are all those wires).

Hell, maybe you could do a Stormraven as the Flying Dutchman. Re-fluffed to look similar to a flagship of old, but tattered and beaten. Worn by its vast ages at the cold and unforgiving sea of space. Definitely with a grim/menacing appeal."

I believe the concept was that Mordrak ferries the Psychic power of dead GK back to the Emperor for sacrifice.

Red Corsairs have access to a pair of Space Wolf characters, the Blood Claws that turned the Wolf of Fenris over to Huron's boarding party.

Alric False-Friend and Unter Turn-Coat. They have a special rule where if the fighting starts going badly for their side they take a morale test. A failure and they take another. If they pass the second test they retreat. If they fail they turn-coat again and join the winning side, fighting with reduced stats so as not to be too game breaking.
