95 KB SMITH QUEST, part 7 (ish) Indonesian Gentleman 10/02/11(Sun)09:49 No.16494571
We're Quin Fuller Smithsson, the daughter of a renowned blacksmith (at least around these parts), and right now we're hammered drunk in the bar, but also the victor of an Ale Battle, whom some celebrity guests also attended. But it seems like your troubles aren't over, for you see Dahlia the Rogue is trying to grab... something... from the hips of one of the celebrity guests. Do we try and drunkenly stop Dahlia? Or do we let her do whatever she's doing, as we're just -this- close to passing out?
    Decisions?

    >Yay! You're back.

I'm actually tempted to let Dahlia do her thing but it would probably only cause more trouble for us.

Bring her shenanigans to Hertzog's attention. Discretely, if possible.

You drunkenly figure out that whatever she's doing, she'll cause more trouble in the long run, so you wave to Hertzog. He sees you, and came over.
"What seems to be the problem, Quin?"
    "I, uh... geez..."

You manage to mutter out some syllables.
"Daah-lee-aaa..." and gesture in her general direction. It seems like Hertzog understands, and quickly switches his gaze towards Dahlia.
Who is currently handling Septimia's panties.
    Dammit Dahlia!
And as quickly as he switched his gaze, he grabs Dahlia's arm. Meanwhile, you pass out from the drinks...

Allright, story decision time! Where would you like for Quin to wake up in? Quin's House? Adventurer's room at the Inn? or the Guests' room at the Inn?

oh hey! there's still players after all!

When you wake up, you can see the familiar roof of the inn above you. And a hangover to boot, but it seems like you're gonna get over it pretty soon.
"Morning, Quin!" Llywelyn suddenly hugs you from behind. "Morning, Llywelyn... So, what happened, yesterday?"
"It was good decision, calling out Dahlia" Hertzog says from the table in the middle of the room. "Our guests are grateful that she didn't get away with their... well... private belongings."
You can see Dahlia, still sleeping on her bed, with a black eye. Obviously from one of our guests, possibly Septimia, who is the owner of the underwear Dahlia almost stole last night.
"By the way, GNeutered asks that we escort her to the Gnoll village up north tomorrow. She wanted to go today, but seeing as her girls are hungover, she postponed." Hertzog continues.
"Oh yeah, I did promise her that I'd help her cross the woods, didn't I?"
"And thanks to that bloody git Dahlia, we can't help but to join, too!" Llywelyn shouts.
Dahlia stirs. "Sshhhh.... not so loud... my head hurts..."
"That's what ya get for stealin' panties, ya bloody git!" The elven mage threw a pillow at the rogue.
You laugh, feeling better. What do we do next? Do we prepare for the trip, or do we do something else? Maybe ask the three Gnoll ambassadors?

    >>16494979
We should gather some information on the customs of the gnoll village. There are probably lots of cultural differences and therefore many chances to screw things up without knowing that we're doing anything wrong at all.

Also, throw another pillow at Dahlia.

    >>16494979
Let's see if there's anything we can do to help Dahlia with her injury.
Maybe if we're nice to her, we'll be able to influence her to be a bit less problematic.

You join in the pillow-tossing, and tossed another pillow at Dahlia. "Ow, ow, duuude, stop that..." You laugh again, and thanks Hertzog and Llywelyn for their company. "No problem. You are our friend, anyways." Hertzog bows gracefully.
"By the way, Hertzog, where can I find the three Gnolls? I have one or two things to ask them."
"Currently, the mayor gave them a stall at the market, he says it's the only empty spot for them. I say he's being stingy."
"Allright, thanks! You have a good day!"
So, the Gnoll brothers now live in a stall in the market, eh? Do we shop for smithing supplies as well? Or maybe just take a look at the goods before we visit the Gnolls?
    Decisions?

    >So, the Gnoll brothers now live in a stall in the market, eh

See if there's anything we can do for Dahlia's eye. Afterwards, grab something to eat with the crew before having a look around the market with Llywelyn. Maybe there's something that might be useful or simply interesting.

You think you could get a few healing salves at the market for Dahlia's eye. For the meantime, however, Hartzog's going to stay and nurse Dahlia, so you ask Llywelyn to accompany you to the market.
Arriving at the market, it's starting to hustle up some business, as the housewives arrive in droves every morning just to get the freshest grocery. Some even sell them. You decide to head towards the medicinal herb shop.
"Morning, you two. If it isn't a couple, this early in the morning!" The shopkeeper bellows. "So, what do you need? Maybe something to, well, cement relationships? I also happen to have some aromatic herbs here that will-"
"Sorry sir... we're jus here for some healing salves, got any?"
"Oooh, rough night, eh? Well I can't blame ya. Anyway, a healing salve costs 10 Cc. I also got some other herbs, if you want."
    Wallet: 3Gc, 20 Sc and 27 Cc.
    1 Gc = 10 Sc = 100 Cc.
    Buy how many?

Well, it works wonders on bruises and bumps, but not to cuts and heavy bleeding. Basically, healing salves are used after bar brawls or stuff like that. For cuts and bleeding, you'd better call for the town surgeon or cleric.

    "I'll buy two, please."
You hand over 20 copper coins, and obtained two packs of healing salves.
    "Thanks, mister!"
    "No problem, sonny!"
D'oh, old man must've forgotten that you're a woman. But you've gotten a lot of that in the past, anyways.
After wandering around the market a while longer, you finally found the Gnolls' stall. Hmm, seems only Truro is there.
"Morning, Truro! Where's Rugar and Sajag?"
"Ah, morneeng, Kuinn. Rugar ees patrol market, Sajag ees patrol north of vilij. Wat seems the mattr?"
"I want to ask a few things about Gnoll customs."

"Ah, ya, ya, I get. Kultur, ees it?"
"Yeah, I'd like to know more about Gnoll culture. Since we're supposed to go to your Gnoll village tomorrow."

You throw her a healing salve, which she deftly catches. "Here's something for that."

"Didn't know you're the kind type, Quin." Llywelyn quipped.
"Haven't I always been?" You quip back. "Anyway, I'm gonna check on our guests. Anyone wanna join?"
    Dahlia opens her mouth-
    "-except you, Dahlia, sorry."

You stroll to the guests' room at the inn with Hertzog, and knocked on the door. "Heya there, this is Quin, from the other day."
GNeutered opens the door, without a hint of hangover left in her. "Ah, good morning. What's the occasion?"
"Well, just wanna check up on you guys, I hope you didn't get a bad hangover."
"I didn't, but it seems that Antonina's having a bad case of it. Septimia's almost healed, and Slicks, well, she didn't get any hangover at all. Must be a lizardfolk thing."
"Greetings to you, too, madam. I hope you didn't suffer any inconvenience due to my party-mate." Hertzog says.
"Oh, the thief girl? Ah, no worries. If she wasn't that scrawny and stringy, she could be a good gladiatrix like Septimia here." GNeutered laughs.
"So, I was wondering, if perhaps today you'd like to train me a thing or two about fighting..." You say.
"Ah, no problem. I can train you, and Slicks here can spar with you. She's been aching to fight after last night, don't take it the wrong way. I'll be down with Slicks soon."
And yes, soon enough, GNeutered and Slicks arrived at the front of the inn, carrying some wooden poles with cloth wrapped around both their ends.

The two of you each take a pole, and began circling around each other. Slicks starts attacking with a few wide swings aimed at your side, but you manage to swing your own pole to deflect the blows. "Hmm, good, good! You seem to know the basics!" GNeutered comments, with Hertzog standing, ready to offer medical help. You then try to lunge at Slicks, pretending the pole to be a spear, but Slicks quickly twirled her pole to deflect it again. "Not quite fast enough! Put your hips into it!" Again, Slicks went on the offensive, with an overhead swing this time. Quickly, you block the attack, and deflect it to the side, just as Slicks tries to land a kick. A quick twirl of the pole, and you manage to block that one too. "I see! You have good reflex to defend! But you need some more attack lessons!"

She then proceeds to show us three basic moves for poles. Sideways swing, thrust, and downwards swing.
"That's the basics, you just have to combine them to make good attacks."
You try to replicate her moves... and did exceptionally well on the swings. The thrust, however, still needs work. "Ah, you have good hip, why can't you use it well? In thrusting, the hip is important!" She then thrusts her hip forwards.
"Okay, one more time with Slicks, this time until one of you land a hit on the other! Remember what I taught you!"
By this time, a few spectators have gathered, mostly the villagefolk.

As before, the two of you circle each other, sizing each other up. This time, you open up with an overhead attack, which is quickly parried by Slicks. She then follows up with a swift jab, which you deflect, and returned with an admittedly weak thrust, which Slicks easily deflected. She then swings her pole behind her, and onto your other side. Thinking quickly, you knock her pole off course, sending it over your head, while swinging your own pole, descending into a crouch. You manage to hit Slicks on her leg. The crowd of spectators cheer and gasp with each move both of you did.
"I see, you are still weak at thrusts. You seem to prefer swings, though. Tell me, do you have a warhammer back home?"
You're a bit suprised. "Why yes, I do have one. Did you guess that from my moves alone?"
"I'm not a gladiatrix manager for nothing, you know! Now let's wrap up this training session, it's close to lunchtime already."
Well, all that's left is tomorrow's trip; Do you still want to learn enchantment with Llywelyn this afternoon? I'll update our skills once I get back home, where I keep the Smith Quest master log at. I'll put up the updated skills next time I run Smith Quest.
