That's fine. Our castellan is either truly loyal or a truly devoted mole. Either way, we have no reason to not trust him implicitly.
If Red Belly is indeed his brother, that works to our advantage.

Let's sit him down, offer some mead and sausage, and break the ice by sharing stories about how fucking awful a human being our father was.
After that we can slowly broach the subject of exactly why he's an outlaw, and how we can work together to make everyone happy.

(Bertrand has a Core of 20 Elite Marksmen he uses to hunt bandits with)

You hear some yelling coming from outside the keep, when you go to investigate it your guards are holding back a old widow.

"MY SIRE I MUST TALK WITH YOU IT IS ABOUT YOUR EDYTH'S HUSBAND IT CONCERNS WHO MURDERED HER!"

"Let her go this minute!" you roar at the guards who release her and look quite sheepish that it took four of them to restrain an old lady.

She straightens her blouse out and raps the nearest guards knuckles with her walking stick "young ones these days don't know nothing bout respect." and hobbles towards you.

"My liege" she informs as she walks by you "can you light up a fire to warm these old bones and wrangle up some of your wifes sausages i can smell them from here. and then i'll point you in the right direction of the murderer."

as you stoke the fire back up, one of your serving girls brings her a plate of sausages which she attacks with a gusto and after finishing it she finally talks "Its was the Freys" she burps out " Walder wants to swarm you with his sons and merge your house into his."

"how do you know this?" you reply suspiciously

"a old woman's knitting circle is like a web of a spider, so many rumors and interesting tid bits fall into it. but i must digress, this is all i know, you may find out more in Frey's Castle."

"But...how do they even know of us?"

"You're one of the vassals of Ned, Walder met-" she burps "sorry Walder met your father during Ned and Caitlyn's wedding and saw your lands, and must have decided he wants them simple as that."

if this old crone is right...it could be an ill omen

While this is simply a rumor, we should take it into account. But for now, we must carry on. While our bandits find other bandits, we must focus on improving the region. Start clearing off sections of forest to be cut down. Then start making a furnishing buiessness. Actually, we could build ships, and sell them to the Greyjoys....

That's for debate. Just cut down the trees for now.

    We're not the Lannisters.
Give the smallfolk a couple stags. Smallfolk love stags.
    It's a ton to them.

Here's a Fun fact for you:
In Westeros, people hate base 10 for some fucking reason.
A Dragon (gold) is worth 210 Stags (silver) a Stag is worth 56 pennies (Copper).
Hence, a Dragon is worth 11,760 pennies.
A large loaf of bread or a dozen eggs is worth 1penny, at most. A healthy chicken is worth about 4 pennies.
A milk cow can be had for under 10 Stags.
The yearly income of a smallfolk is 30-stags or less.
1 dragon is 7 years income for a healthy, skilled male.
"A few Dragons" is likely as much money as someone could reasonably earn in a lifetime.
tl;dr Don't give out dragons to every old woman who comes spitting shit at us, or everyone will.

    nope.
Slavery is very illegal in Westeros.
Even buying slaves "over seas" and "Freeing" them to ship back would probably earn you exile/death/the wall.

Because running an infantry based rape machine through all these cushy feudal baronies will fuck their shit up. And this primarily depends on land bearing capacity (population density). Which a long summer supports.

Lone Master is correct. The Tercio is a late medieval development that relies on a combination of pike and ranged in a large self-supporting formation that is capable of mutual support with other like formations.

It developed out of the professional armies of the Swiss and Italians, forced by the Italian wars (think the Free Cities of Bravos much?).

You'd need to develop a professional cadre, much like the training of an individualistic feudal warrior, but with emphasis on human command, logistics, and unit tactics. You'd need to develop the production of House controlled weapons stockpiles (expensive). You'd need to develop professional crossbow men (guns were easy to use, crossbows, less so).

Then you'd need a wave of enclosures to force men off the land and into your Tercios.

It is do-able, but requires some sixes, forethought, and exposure to the Bravosi's professional companies.
