Chapter Master: A Chapter Master Simulator general

    >playing a custom-made Raven Guard successor called "Steel Wardens" that favors scouts and assault marines for stealth/speed, as well as sturdy vehicles (mostly tanks) with lots of firepower for a sort of thunder-and-lightning approach to combat
    >recover a long-lost world on a distant frontier from Orks
    >turns out it was a shrine-world for some reason, that's pretty cool
    >begin rebuilding the planet, wiping out feral orks until they're no longer a threat
    >re-open planet for civilian settlement, pilgrims and civilians errywhere
    >becomes a boom-planet and makes me filthy rich
    >suddenly Nurgle worshippers, apparently a covert cult was established right under my nose
    >plagues spread, zombies and daemons and cultist-soldiers everywhere
    >call as many battle brothers as I can to try to save the planet
    >tough fight, but I manage minimal casualties and kick their sorry asses
    >Orks use the opportunity to form a new clan and start attacking
    >I can't divert forces from my fight against the heretics yet, hope they don't get too big and do too much damage
    >never developed any connections to other chapters/Imperial organizations, and too isolated to call for help
    >Ork waaaaaagh gets decently big, and although I'm beating the heretics and managed to drive them out of and away from all of my major cities and into the rural areas my forces are starting to become exhausted
    >manage to bait the Orks into attacking the heretics
    >they devastate each-other
    >I finish off the survivors
    >my chapter's ranks have been greatly depleted and I've lost quite a bit of resources, I start rebuilding
    >Sisters of Battle come and demand that I turn over the planet that I've fought so motherfucking hard to protect and spent so many motherfucking resources to develop because it's a shrine world, and apparently I am UNWROTHYLOL

    This. Fucking. Game.

As the url implies, that's the dev blog.

    And obviously that's the wiki.

You can find links to the 2 things they've made so far on the dev blog. They haven't gotten very much done yet, which is to be expected since it's only been a few days. We'll have to wait months before anything that actually resembles a game comes out.

Magos Ezechiel Albaterne of the Adeptus Mechanicus, one of the most powerful men in the sector has arrived with a large retinue and is seeking an audience with you. He has come for your Chapter's greatest relic, which he claims is actually a long-lost weapon from the Dark Age of Technology with arcane properties that has lain dormant, but that he alone has the ability to activate with a set of newly-recovered archaeotech passcodes and obscure rituals.

    1. Gift the relic to the Magos in a lavish ceremony.
    2. Demand a pledge of assistance from the Magos in return.
    3. Demand a tribute of technology from the Magos in return.
    4. Ask the Magos to activate the weapon, but keep it for the chapter's use. In exchange, you will pledge your chapter to assist the Magos in his endeavours.
    5. Turn him away.

    Opinions from the Chapter Council:

Master of the Forge Alain Barkade: "The Magus is not to be taken lightly. And we are in dire need of armor components..."

Chaplain Sargol Dovrus: "The relic is a sacred item, a token of the Emperor's favor of our chapter. It should not be parted with lightly."

I understand making the joke once. It was even funny that first time! And I understand writing your own fiction, that's cool too! But the joke of "Hey, there's this awesome super cool game that is exactly what you're looking for, but have never heard of and can never find (because it doesnt exist)" has been done before. Each time it really is fun, but I just get sick of the sequel threads. Mass Effect 40,000 was fun! Chapter Master: A Chapter Master Simulator was fun too! But why keep making the same tired joke over and over? At least pretend it's a different unheard-of-but-fake game.

That or just write your story as a normal piece of fiction.

A detachment of Scouts pursuing a small group of Orks on the deathworld Agrippa report contact with a primitive tribe of humans. They are ignorant of the galaxy at large and have taken to revering your scouts as lesser warrior deities. The savages are petitioning the scouts for assistance against a neighboring tribe, whom they claim worship the "wrong-headed god" and must be purged.

    1. Order scouts to grant the tribe's request.
    2. Have the scouts make contact with the neighboring tribe and investigate the situation further.
    3. Order the scouts to remain neutral and observe.
    4. Have the scouts ignore the tribes and push to locate and exterminate the Ork infestation.
    5. Have the scouts attempt diplomacy and involve the tribes in the fight with the Orks.

    Voices from the Chapter Council:

    Apothecary Lemberg Haas:
    >"I've looked over some autopsy reports sent from Agrippa. The natives are of strong and hardy stock, and would make excellent candidates for induction."

    Chaplain Arko Rasoal:
    >"With these primitive religions it's hard to tell which of them worship the Emperor and which have fallen to false gods. Be careful lest we end up unwittingly assisting in heresy."

    10th Company Commander Ule Alandris:
    >"The wretched Orks are spreading spores and multiplying on the planet even while we tarry. The sooner we cull the infestation, the better."

Hijack a Mechanicus Ark-ship and never, ever, ever stop moving. Makes getting raw materials and fresh recruits a pain in the ass but if you promote the Heretek to Honorary Forge-father and give him enough servitors and like-minded acolytes having only 300 marines stops being a problem because they all have void-shield generators in their armour and are all holding safe Plasma Rifles at least.

Of course the moment you do stop you get Exterminatus'd pretty fucking quickly.

Intelligence gathering efforts by your chapter and local Ordo Xenos operatives have uncovered an Eldar plot to alter the evolutionary path of the Tulqan, a minor Xenos race with vaguely alien features. Eldar agents are acting unseen among the Tulqan population, subtly modifying the genetic patterns of individual Tulqan for some unknown purpose.

    1. Launch a direct attack on the Eldar and the Tulqan.
    2. Broadcast a transmission to the Tulqan revealing the Eldar experiments.
    3. Call a crusade against the Tulqan, and draw upon your contacts within the sector to have other Imperial factions fight on your behalf.
    4. Monitor the situation, but do nothing for now.

You should just inform the Tulqan and let them sort it out.

If I were the Dark Angels I'm sure their chapter secrecy bonuses would allow this to go on undetected, but with Raven Guard you can't keep in-house secrets for very long when the new recruits keep on trying to escape into every nook and cranny.

The way my ideal diplomacy system would work is three separate values:
First is your chapter's reputation with a specific organisation, or the people of the imperium in general. This rises slowly, and greatly affects first impressions among relevant NPCs. People who have had dealings with your chapter in the past aren't affected as much, since they base their opinion on their own experiences.
Second is personal reputation. The Adeptus Mechanicus may as a whole have little care for the space marines of the Brazen Balls chapter, but the Fabricator-General of Charybdis VII owes them his continued existence and has deep respect for them.
Finally, some way of tracking oaths and favors owed. Black Templar Field Marshall Adolphus owes his life to the Sons of Helios. He hates what he considers their overdependence on witchcraft, but he is a man of honor, and he will not tarry if they call for aid.

Make sure there's plenty of stuff to explore too, and a wide variety of different events and attributes for planets, and areas of outer space, and of course the warp since you will need to travel through it every now and then. The more variety and quantity with... well, pretty much everything is always better. I know that a lot of the greentext stories revolve around things like:

    >you're sitting around, minding your own business
    >SUDDENLY: YOU'RE FUCKED, LOSER

But you should be careful not to make the game completely revolve around things like that. Of course those things do happen in 40k, and they should be a major component, just be careful not to over-do it. There should be a balance between maintenance/diplomatic issues and exploration and warfare. We should be able to make some concrete progress without being kicked in the teeth by

Worse, I'd sent Stolos over to the Sons just before they upped and vanished (never pick fleet-bourne chapter for successors) to set up more clone banks- I'd intended for them to be the ones to continue the work so I could dismantle the stuff back at base- but now the chaplain's going to demand they be kept open to let the Inquisition butt-fuck me when they get here.

Any ideas what I should do? I think the 3rd company are with me on this, but currently word hasn't spread very far in-chapter beyond the SoC leaving.

Disassemble every machine, collect genetic samples from as much of the bio-sphere as possible (assuming it's not an airless rock), set it all up at least 50 light years away and dump a load of nuclear satellites in orbit of the old world.

Maybe if there was enough +points in spirituality, possibly by having too many battle-preachers, or whatever it could become a Shrine world.

Same with having too much Ad-mech influence, Your Hive world could turn into the industrial powerhouse of a Forge-world.

Maybe you could up the tech level of a feral world and turn it into an agri-world, export the excess food and buy MKVIII power armour.

Ad-Mech influence would have to be through the motherfucking ROOF before the Imperium would consider handing over control to the Omnissians - having a lot of manufactoriums don't make a planet a forge world.
Agree on the other stuff, though.
Maybe instead of +spirituality, shrine worlds could be generated by having significant events take place there, like the birth of a saint?

Ocean World and Ice world are both covered by different parts of planet generation in the DHPG, meaning you can get deep-frozen ice-hive worlds or algae-based agri water-worlds.
As for forbidden worlds, they're basically places that are OFF LIMITS by inquisitorial or ecclesiarchal order - maybe they're haunted by the ghosts of whatever alien civilisation once lived there, maybe it's got crazy inquisitorial black science going down, maybe even they don't know what's up.

Quite the opposite. A Knight world has the capacity to equip its nobility with armored battlesuits, and its animal herders with the herding mechs the Sentinel walker is based on.

If the Redemptionists are getting uppity, there's probably a crisis going on. Check the production levels on your worlds and look for messages that workers are rioting, the Administratum may have raised tithes to an unreasonable level. Donating some of the chapter's supplies to the civilian government may reduce tension, but it's not a long term solution. You may want to use your influence to replace the sector government with a friendlier one.

    Non-code, non-skilled, non-anything anon attempting to contribute.

    >Hive World
Highest population, high tech, high production and/or manufacturing, good recruiting (possibly good penal legionaire production) High AdMech influence.

    >Agri World
Needed to support hive and Forge worlds. Possibly others, to varying degrees. Some ought to produce luxury foods, for nobles and shit-maybe more valuable?

    >Forge World
Highest Manufacturing. Decent-to-high population. AdMech ownage.

    >Mining World
    Production of raw materials

    >Developing World
People-producing, wealth-producing, as they likely have high demand for high-tech goods and unique natural resources. Less tech, better recruits/tougher inhabitants. Good production/manufacturing, but limited tech.

    >Feudal World
Tougher recruits, more natural resources, though less likely to industrially exploit it. Low tech, obviously. Low, but possible AdMech presence.

    >Feral World
Lowest tech, tough recruits, I'd assume. Potential AdMech presence, but most unliklely. (Either requiring local AdMech relics, or some other bizarre reason for them to take interest.)

    >Shrine World
Ignorant of what this would really entail, aside from Ecclisiarchal strongpoint and morale-penalty if lost. Maybe bonuses from pilgrims?

    >Cemetery World
Again, I literally don't know what this would be. Guess: Perhaps some bonus to nearby agri-worlds? Converts human bodies back into fertilizer? No clue.

    >Pleasure World
Nobles, Inquisitors, etc. High morale, wealthy, low production, manufacturing, etc.

    >Quarantined World
Obviously, there should be a variety of these. Ones off the top of my head that I've heard about: Pandemic, haunted (Mara Landing Massacre, Dark Heresy), warpstorm'd (DoWII, Chaos Rising), unconquerable (Ganymede, some Solar Macharius fluff), and probably more that I simply don't know.
    >> Anonymous 10/06/11(Thu)17:59 No.16542050
    >War World
Not sure if this means 'long lasting war' or 'fortress world'. Either or. High production, high population (though low recruitment as they probably have their own things.) and probably high-tech.

    >Dead World
Haunted or something. Once was a colony, no longer. Perhaps a war-world that was overrun, or a death-world that succeeded in killing off it's population. Or what is left over when exterminatus doesn't destroy the planet.

    >Death World
Toughest motherfucking recruits. Probably quite excellent, as they may not have quite high enough pop for conventional guard recruitment. Anything from 'everything trying to kill you' to environmental extremes people technically shouldn't be able to survive.

    >Frontier World
Unexplored. Probably higher chance of loot/relics/whatever. Higher chances of heresy or xenos-dealings than normal (frontier, beyond the attention of most of the Imperium.)

    >Forbidden World
Similar to a quarantined world, except more important and official, I think. Something horrible, presumably, or an Inquisitor's summer-home. (Come to think of it, I think Ganymede is one of these.)

    >Xenos World
Obviously owned by xenos races. Either unconquerable (overlapping with above,) harmless, willing to accede to the authority of man, or simply not enough of a threat to merit active annihilation. Possibly with good relics, or with xenotech to trade.

Hope this helps in some way.
    >> Anonymous 10/06/11(Thu)18:08 No.16542110

War worlds are nothing but battlefields. They would have very low, if not non-existent production and recruitment, and the population would consist almost entirely of soldiers trying to butcher each-other. There might be some civilians still on the planet, but they're running for their lives instead of producing things.

Dead worlds are places that are totally empty. No life whatsoever, except possibly a research expedition of some type. A lot of them have always been dead worlds, and are totally inhospitable to life for some reason(s) - toxic atmosphere, intolerably extreme temperatures, extreme gravity, etc. Some of them used to be regular worlds and became death worlds for one reason or another.

Alright, that sounds accurate. I was thinking more like 'fortress world' or Tranch from the Calixis sector fluff.

I assume that simply uninhabitable worlds will not be listed as that would probably be a hell of a paint to do. On the other hand, if we want things to be able to randomly appear, it seems necessary that things can be discovered on otherwise-overlooked worlds. You seem to have better descriptions than I do here, too.

I'd make a distinction between "Frontier World" and "unexplored world". The Imperium does have a number of planets that are only sparsely populated and have a "wild west" vibe to them, particularly in the Eastern Fringe. Make those frontier worlds, where there's equal chance of dealing with humans and xenos on the same planet. Unexplored worlds are the true wilderness areas, where you'll encounter xenos, pirate hideouts, occasional human/AdMech prospectors, and maybe score lucky and uncover a human society to be brought back into the Imperium.

A thought on relic discovery: there should be seven main options when a relic is discovered.

    1) Report it to whichever Imperial organization would deal with that sort of thing (if it's ancient tech the Mechanicus, if it's a Chaos artifact the Inquisition, etc) and hand it over, possibly trading it for something. Of course some would be more trade-able than others. The Adeptus Mechanicus might be willing to trade for ancient tech without resenting you for not giving it away for free, while the Inquisition will probably go apeshit and brand you a heretic if you don't just hand over the Chaos artifact RIGHT FUCKING NOW FOR FREE.
    2) Keep the artifact, but don't try to use it and keep it a secret.
    3) Keep it and use it, but keep it a secret.
    4) Keep it and announce that you have it, regarding it as a badge of honor.
    5) Don't take the relic in the first place.
    6) Sell the relic to some merchant somewhere.
    7) Destroy or hide the relic.

it's Chapter Master: A Chapter Master Simulator.

About a week ago, someone started a thread pretending it's real and complaining about it's mechanics and AI, as if it was a real game. We do this a lot, but since it wasn't particularly ridiculous (like mornington crescent) or old (like Science: the Hypothesis), quite a few people thought it was an actual game and we had to break their hearts.

When we had our fourth thread, I believe people started getting the resolve to turn this into reality. It doesn't exist yet, but a few people are on the job. It'll take a little while, but they've already started coding though!

There's already have a wikipage on 1d4chan and a simple blog.

I'm replenishing as fast as I can, but recruiting is slow. The good side of the recruiting process is that I am getting large numbers of psykers (which I don't really understand; am I building a not-really Grey Knights but are Grey Knights chapter?), the bad side is that it's fucking slow.

I don't have strong ties to the Adeptus Mechanicus, so replenishing gear is tough, and the Imperial Navy hasn't responded to me since the Space Hulk boarding action.

The good part is that I'm on good terms with the Inquisition and the Ecclesiarchy.

I've got the game paused because I have to go to university, but I think this is going to be a war of attrition.

Forbidden planets are investigated and may be blacklisted for a variety of reasons:
    1) The inquisition/HLoT/admech says so. Mine.
    2) It is actually a necron tomb/eldar maiden/chaos demon world.
    3) Ancient horrible relics or buried demons
    4) proximity to other forbidden worlds
    5) Administratum screw up. It's actually a pretty damn good planet!
    6) *classified*

There's a good chance that no one remembers why a planet was blacklisted. There's a better chance that someone actually does know. As such, they are great material for random "exceptional" discoveries.

That's more or less what a pleasure world is! It may be a special type of subset, but it's the same idea: A world to entertain rich folks.

There's a high chance the planet is poorly explored. A high chance to piss off rich people. Should be adequately defended by private defense forces. Not much strategically worth fighting over. Good ability to hide heresy. The high level of intrigue lends itself to Inquisition matters.

It's something Space Marines would be hard pressed to justify dicking around with. But all that LAND! Just think of the fortress you could build...... :/

"…now the Master of the Adeptus Astra Telepathica shall come forward, and consult the Emperor's Tarot to establish the agenda."
"Let it be done," the chant rang out.
The ancient psyker, hunched under the weight of his arcane technology, stalked forth onto the floor. Circled by the spiteful eyes of the other eleven High Lords, and that grim statue of the Emperor's effigy, he drew in his breath. At his waist, he unclasped a small box. He could have commanded it to automatically shuffle, for each psychically-attuned card could play the role of any other, but the demands of tradition bid him take the slow path.
Drawing out the packet of liquid crystal wafers, he set them out on the small, flat-topped podium. He split them into stacks, cut them twelve times each for the High Lords and once for the Emperor of Mankind, and gathered them back together.
Then, with another intake of breath, he drew the first card, placing it delicately on the ancient tabletop.
"The Emperor of Mandatio!" cried the sycophant, and the cheer went up. In the Council of High Lords, the Emperor was always the first card to reveal itself. On that card, a wizened figure locked in a prison of gold, the Overlord of the Imperium, the Master of Mankind. Whose divine overwatch surveyed and foresaw…
"Absolute control, the authority to rule over men! Blessed His name, and His Will be done!"
    >> Pauldron Guy 10/07/11(Fri)01:19 No.16545659

Four to go. Another rasping breath. The tubes in his nose were chafing. He laid the next card in place.
"The Star trump!" cried the sycophant, and the lords looked up from their displays and documents. The Star was new beginnings. Second in the order, it could only mean that the Emperor willed a new endeavor to begin. On the card, a burning protoplanetary disc, a vortex of violence and potential.
    "Creation, undertaking, new beginnings!"
Three to go. Another rasping breath. His nose hurt. He drew the next…
"The Savage of Excuteria!" cried the sycophant, and the lords were truly interested now. There were mutters of 'Crusade?' and 'Invasion?'. Litanies against the alien, the mutant, the traitor fluttered through the chamber like parchments cast out of a high window. Across the card the greenskinned Ork prowled forwards, and off the edge- and another alien entered the plate, less familiar by far. Another still. An unending procession of the Emperor's foes paraded beneath the psychoplastic surface.
"Conflict! Problems! The dilemmas that do so assail His realm!"
    >> Pauldron Guy 10/07/11(Fri)01:20 No.16545670
    >>16545659

Two to go. Another rasping breath. The Master of the Adeptus Astra Telepathica was bleeding now. It trickled down his nasal tube and away, under his high collar. Drops of blood rolled across his tattoo-drowned chest. He turned the next card.
"The Destroyer of Adeptio!" cried the sycophant, and the eleven lords were craning their necks. The Lord Commander summoned messengers to prepare for the impending crusade. The Fabricator General clicked in the tongue of servo-skulls, and his personal flock departed to ready the forges. Nobody saw what the Inquisitorial Representative did, but they were sure he that he had done something. A warship in decked in gleaming heraldry, roaring through space…
One to go. Another rasping breath. Finish the circle. Read the spread. He reached out…
"The Space Marine of Adeptio!" cried the sycophant, and the gasps went round. Orders were cancelled. Some Lords rose to their feet, others sank into their chairs in silent prayer. A Chapter Master in his offices, tending to the affairs of his army...Not in living memory had…
"The triumph of mind over matter, of willpower over the threat!"
"…The Master of the Adeptus Astra Telepathica interprets," he said.
He gazed down at the ring of cards. The Emperor gazed up at him. Not in living memory…
"The time of a new Founding has come! His Will be done in the mortal realm as in the Immaterium!"
And now at last he could retire to his chair, and his attendants could wipe the blood away. He turned, unconcerned with the jubilation and determination that had overcome the chamber. His task was done.

Really appreciate someone doing some sort of art/sprites for this. Sprites, to me, are leagues above the accursed letter/numerals/symbols that DF uses. Even if no-one else says so, I think what you're doing is invaluable. Even if the game has only really basic sprites for the odd event here and there (if it turns out to be a text adventure style game), it'd be a big bonus.

I went with the "ValiiantMarines", some total white knight bs I came up with like 10 years ago just to test the system.

    >Make sure to sacrifice tech points for pure gene-seed
    >Get raped by Eldar a few times (damn segmentus obscurum)
    >Research catches me up, probably should've allowed ANY gene-seed impurity cause this was some BS until that point
    >Somehow after 3 iterations my SMs are black skinned with red eyes. WTF?
    >Fortress monestary homeworld too close to it's sun. FUUUUUUUUU
    >Weaponry almost to standard with other chapters after merciless research, costing serious amounts of population and Machine cult good will

    >FUCKHUEG ULTRAMAR TYPE EMPIRE ESTABLISHED WAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN
    >Marines can no longer self-heal
    >Marines can no longer produce viable gene-seed
    >WAT
    >Chapter under suspicion
    >Chapter declared hereticus extremis (I don't think this is even a real thing but there it is)
    >GKs, GKs everywhere

Will advise, apparently I"m a heretic and now I'm fighting the Ordo Malleus. I'll keep you posted on results.

Because it's funny as hell and Dorf Fortress.

Though, the dev team could probably use some different ideas. Perhaps more micro orientated stories? Not seen many of them. I'll try add one later today.

I don't know, I like the idea of doing things from the macro perspective, with occasional 'events' that give you an option for a small-scale thing that can impact the greater macro.

Like the actions of a Scout Squad, or what the chapter does with a relic they find and such.

Also, not as much dickery at Dorf Fortress. Some, yes, becasue it's charming... but not being fucked by the =]|[= every other game would be nice.

Or at least, make 'Dickery' a setting the player can alter before they start a game.

Because people forget just how goddamn rarely the Inquisition does that to a chapter. It's just as likely for some Ecclesiarchy Cardinal to wander around, see some Space Marine ritual he doesn't like (Space Marine rituals are strange!) and excommunicate the chapter.
