SWEET CUPPIN' CAKES, IT'S TG QUEST!!!!

    Last thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/16887973/

Short Summary: You are in the tomb of Fingolfin, in the final Riddle-Chamber. You came here searching for the legendary sword Ringil, which you hope you can use to distract Sauron while you steal a Ring of Power from him in order to bribe Ahriman.

Just a few moments ago, one of the Aurors detected something in the walls. Thinking out of the box, you beamed down some markers and dry erase boards so they could 'talk' while under the Ward of Silence. That Auror is hastily scribbling something.

    "Walls have pumps in them!!!"

You know this is the first time I've taken part in this quest. And you know, when I saw it going on, I thought it was just a horrible crossover game. Like Narrator didn't understand the universe he was in. Canonical mistakes being made left and right. I didn't look at the thread itself just glanced at it.

I was totally wrong, this quest is AMAZING.

Most likely water, at high pressure. How quickly could we beam the team out?
I suppose now all we have to do is open the latches in the correct order, but I swear to god it seems like we're missing something with the 12 statues of the 12 houses with the 12 emblems of their houses. Oh well.

Could be anything from a final defensive measure, to something mundane, like feeding the fountain that's in the center of this chamber.

Alright, to make sure that we don't accidentally cause problems, let's give our clues to the away team via text messages on the tricorders.

The items held by the statues all SEEM to be in the correct order.
Is there anything we could use to identify specific Houses to their statues, to confirm that they're holding the right object related to their House?

We already confirmed that the statue of Turgon is holding the correct item.
    >> Anonymous 11/09/11(Wed)00:27 No.16891418
    Hm.
The order of the gates would be Wood, Stone, Bronze, Iron, Silver, Gold, and Steel.
And I hope the twelve statues are just decorative, because I have no idea what we should do with them.

As long as all the statues are hold the the right emblems, we're probably good.

You enter the Tomb of Fingolfin. It is a circular chamber with a high ceiling cut with shafts to let in sunlight. An intricate system of mirrors not only reflects the light to better see by, but makes the upper portion of the room glimmer like diamonds. The walls are carved with images of Fingolfin throughout his life, climaxing with the terrible battle against Morgoth. In the center of the room is a tower of piled stones, a cairn. On top of this cairn, is a naked sword, glittering as the light plays over it.

    This is true.

Also, it's 3am. Call it here for today, pick up tomorrow?
Also, do any of the Reasonable Marines know how to wield an ancient sword? They probably do, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

The idea is, Reasonable Marines (one with Ringil) and X-com soldiers stage an obvious attack at Barad-dur to draw the attention of Sauron.
While Sauron's gaze is elsewhere, Tosh and the Aurors teleport into Barad-dur and start searching for one of the Dwarf's rings.
I'd strongly recommend getting some kind of steel box to put the ring in as soon as it's found, to prevent whoever carries it from immediately putting it on under its influence.

We get the ring, give it to Ahriman, who HOPEFULLY agrees to leave this world. It's entirely possible he puts the f*cking thing on and then immediately attacks us, so an Orbital Bombardment solution should be prepared.

Then we put the Sword back, and fly off to base for our mission complete screen.

Even after Melkor's final defeat, evil remains in Middle Earth. His servant, Sauron, who you may know as Mairon, has spread his darkness across the world and threatens to consume it.
The good news is that Sauron's defeat is as inevitable as the sunrise, and he will meet the fate of his master soon enough.
The bad news is that a being from outside Arda, no... outside Eä has come to this land, and seeks to disrupt fate's design for the sake of knowledge. This being is a sorcerer who has lasted ten thousand years in a grim and dark universe that knows only war, where even hope is just another chain to bind you to the cruel and laughing gods.
To remove this interloper, and to destroy similar intruders who would make a mockery of destiny, I fear I have no choice but to request you let us take the blade Ringil so that it's icy blade can once more taste the flesh of the wicked who would impose their design on the innocent.

While I would have liked to have seen the Demoman wielding it, I suppose seriousness needs to win out here.

    My three suggestions:
    1. Star-Lord - Hero character, well-versed in many different combat systems
    2. Spike - Hero character, got at close-combat
    3. Knights Inductor squad leader - superhuman reflexes, speed, and strength. Also extreme dedication to duty and the protection of the innocent.

The article on lightsabers mentions how they're very difficult to use because of their gyroscopic effect, the odd balance due to being a plasma sword, and the extreme danger of the blade.
Also, as a European-style champion fencer, the regular lightsaber would not fit into his hand well, resulting in difficulty in wielding in his preferred style.

If you want to wield a lightsaber with the modern European-style fencing, you'll need to modify the hilt to resemble Count Dooku's.

Star-Lord takes a chance and executes a long lunge at one of his opponents. He manages to impale the undead warrior and he fades to nothing, but in doing so, he is unable to recover quickly enough to avoid being open. The ghostly elves slide a phantom blade into his side and he roars in pain. Fury in his eyes, he turns and slashes into another ghost that fades only to leave himself open again.

Another blow comes, and this time, Star-Lord hits the ground, gasping. The four elves around him raise their weapons for a killing blow...

...and the Knight Inductor is there, leaping towards the battle and standing over Star-Lord. With a fierce roar, he joins the battle, cutting into one of the elves as Star-Lord regains his feet and gets back into the fight. Between the two, the ghosts are no more.

    Star-Lord continues holding his own.
The Knights Inductor keeps tearing ass.

Argh, I can't stay up any longer.
Good luck and go team go.

Also, get that marine a name and a character sheet that shows his mad bonuses to swordplay. The guy is a natural.

...What's a way to let Star-Lord know that we still find his performance very impressive (indeed, he probably did better than most of our other troops would have, and we didn't even hire him for swordsmanship) without it seeming patronizing?

    Also, fuck yeah Knight Inductor.

I don't think we need to worry about getting anybody else to wield it, this guy just earned the crap out of it.

    The Guardian steps forward.

"You have passed the trial by combat. And you have hinted at your soul's worthiness as well, by aiding your companion. It would've been in your interest to let him fail, since that would secure yourself as the sole wielder of Ringil. But you came to his aid despite that, and shown a spark of virtue. Approach, hero, and take up Ringil. But know this. If ever you turn the blade to evil ends, it will cease to serve you just as you ceased to serve a cause greater than yourself."

The ghost floats to the top of the cairn and looks down. Ringil seems to glitter with anticipation as it floats off the rock pile and into the air in front of the Space Marine.

Actually I find this little sidequest as a whole tremendously entertaining. OP's done a great job making Ringil something we have to struggle for, and portraying it as something -worth- struggling for.
Like even with our complete failure to solve the final puzzle I was still enjoying myself, instead of getting frustrated.

Was this guy a living elf once, or is he the spirit of the sword? Like I know that Glamdring had a voice of its own... At least I'm pretty sure it did.

Alright! Now that we've gotten the incredibly important and valuable ancient sword, we can proceed to use it in a distraction by smacking the Black Gate with its pommel and try to sell Sauron some marine-scout cookies.

Everyone will be so busy watching Sauron feast on delicious gingersnaps that they won't notice the miles-long vessel hovering behind the Eye.

    You could ask him.

OK, I've got to call it here. Tomorrow your Space Marine claims not only Ringil, but a name as well. That's right, boys.

    The Lad's Got Talent.

You've got your second Original hero.

It is worth noting that this blade was named after one of the Lamps of the Valar, which first illuminated the world until being cast down by Melkor.

Middle Earth does seem to have a thing for swords making a comeback, don't they?

If the Storm's sensors can be tuned to elven magic and we can detect other elven swords that were lost with the Fall of Gondolin, a LOT more are going to be making a comeback.

And actually, the more the better. The more magical, obviously First Age Noldor swords that suddenly show up on the northern frontier of Mordor, the more that Sauron is going to pay attention.

The problem is that I don't know how well even elvish steel can overcome hundreds (thousands?) of years of saltwater exposure.
