BY THE RUM FLOWING IN MY VEINS! TG QUEST?!

Short Summary: The final two obstacles in this world of mist the Oncoming Storm finds itself over have been found. A mysterious alien city with a reality distortion in Antartica, and a mist-filled Tokyo apparently ruled by Griffith, from Berserk.

Your probe droid has made it to the Meteorological Society and has detected life signs within, while your away team is enroute to Antarctica.

Your Antarctic team consists of the Prawn Suits, the Mobile Infantry, the SCP, and the UNIT troopers.

Just to clarify, is this Golden Age Griffith or Femto Griffith?

In any case, we should find Guts.

    >>17239982
There is no hard evidence either way, though one anon has pointed out the facts seem to indicate Femto.
    >> Anonymous 12/16/11(Fri)20:09 No.17240044
Probe Droid is to use all sensors to determine the nature of those inside the Meteorological Society. All possible stealth protocols are to be followed. If discovered by hostile forces, disengage and retreat at full speed until stealth protocols can be re-established.

If the individuals inside are friendlies, attempt audio communication first (perhaps revealing a camera or something to prove we're approaching the no technology edict with a HATERS GONNA HATE attitude) before revealing itself. UN or US experimental recon drone story is to be used until further notice.

As far as the Antarctica team goes.... I'll leave that up to other members of the command crew. I feel more comfortable focusing on Berserk-y stuff. Also, finding Guts is highly seconded if at all possible.

OK, I guess I will assume you are assuming they are friendly and proceed with the UN drone thing.

The Probe droid advances to a window and taps on it to contact a labcoated elderly man writing out something on a clipboard. It quietly announces its presence.

"Sir, do not be alarmed. I am an experimental United Nations unmanned drone sent to investigate the situation within the mists enveloping Japan. I request any information you can give on the situation here."

"...what?" the man murmurs, walking towards the window and looking around conspiratorially. "Are you... Is this for real?"
    >> Anonymous 12/16/11(Fri)21:00 No.17240443
    >>17240361

Yes, sir. This drone is a part of a task force that has been created to gather information on the mists gathering over Japan, and if possible, to assist the local populace. Other, similar task forces have been assigned to other regions of the world that are dealing with the mists.

But if the task force is to act effectively here, more information regarding the current state of Japan must be gathered.

(IF ANYONE CAN COME UP WITH A BETTER RESPONSE OR MODIFICATIONS TO THIS RESPONSE, SPEAK UP!)

Most of the native life seems oddly unharmed, and by this time a lot of the initial chaos has died down. It's impossible to get an exact number for now, but it seems the majority of people made it out OK, even though there are significant losses. Rough estimate currently is 10 to 20% Americas population killed in the chaos.

If we go along with the theme of keeping Darklords trapped in Ravenloft... Ebon Night probably "drafted" Guts to keep Griffith in a loop of obsession to keep him anchored to the Domain that cropped up in Japan.

Griffith is obsessed with Guts in some way, Guts hates Griffith and is obsessed with killing him. A cycle of obsession keeps both of them firmly anchored in the new Ravenloft that Ebon Night is attempting to create on this iteration of Earth.

I know only the barest outline of Berserk. How many demons does Griffith command, and can he summon more to replace his losses? What powers do they possess? What are his goals and interests, besides killing the hero and general villainy?
    >> Anonymous 12/16/11(Fri)22:26 No.17241305
    >>17241261

From what I could gather from the Berserk wiki, his ultimate goal is to create and rule a kingdom that he can truly call his own. Or conquer one and reshape it in his image.

From the old man's descriptions, Griffith is in full possession of his demonic powers as Femto, and may be able to summon demons or otherwise attract them and bind them. We can also assume that he conscripted soldiers from the populace or otherwise brought some over from wherever he was ripped from.

That probably means that Battletech-era and Macross-era lasers, missiles, and machineguns can tear the shit outta the rank-and-file apostles. I agree with this guy. Tokyo sounds like a tough nut to crack right now, and will probably require intensive planning to pull it off right.

While the prospect of dealing with Shoggoths and other Lovecraftian horrors is undoubtedly dangerous to our sanity and health, it seems to be relatively familiar territory for most of us. Also, taking down the reality distortion in Antarctica first could possibly lead to Old One knowledge (or cooperation if we're obscenely lucky). The strength of the distortion in Tokyo may also subside a bit, as we weren't even able to access Tokyo until we dealt with the mists in Silent Hill & Transylvania.

Esuna) are more potent and cost less MP. In addition, Lyla gains a small bonus when using curative items/artifacts to cleanse people or exorcise evil spirits.

We can solve this very easily. Stealth mission into the base searching for the reality distortion. When we find it, we rate it based on how hard it would be to fight. If it can't be killed easily with what we have there, we beam down a missile into an empty room. We evacuate our troops and set the bomb off from a distance avoiding all unneeded causualties.

Before blowing the entire area up, we make sure that doing so WON'T KNOCK THE THING INTO THE META AND MAKE US DEAL WITH IT LATER WHEN IT'S MORE POWERFUL.

If it is easily killed, we shoot the thing and see if the mists disperse. If it doesn't and our scanners detect no more distortions, then we level the place from orbit.

We don't currently know if this is supposed to be part of the canon for this universe. Our jobs are to preserve canon and if we don't know what IS canon, this makes our job quite a bit harder.

On that topic, we should probably ask those researchers in Japan if the Mountains of Madness were always in Antarctica. That would help us decide how much firepower we need.

Remember, we also need to take into account that currently, Antarctica is mostly a continent under a large sheet of ice. Blasting it with lasers from space may melt it, killing most of the rest of the planet.
    >> Anonymous 12/17/11(Sat)02:21 No.17243336
Any chance of getting the Aurors down to Antarctica for healing, fire spells, and general magical bullshit?
Also, if we're going to be dealing with Antarctica, we might as well have "Shoggoth Battle Plan B", AKA Destroids, ready to enact deadly death of killing on any large amount of enemy forces that slither out of the city.

While we're doing this, Egon and Data should learn all the Ravenloft, in an attempt to figure out exactly how you're meant to stop a Dark Power.
The Farseers should try to work out what Cheryl's role in this is, and also if we're still on a 1-week deadline. If she's the key to the entire world, then her role isn't done after Silent Hill, but I can't think of what she does next.
Science team is currently working on the Aglaphotis? Switch to Offensive Reality Emitters, in case a Reality Emitter is capable of hurting the Ebon Night.

Ravenloft likes to keep its darklords in place by playing on their obsessions. It may well be trying to stick us in this world owing to our obsessions for fixing reality and/or acquiring loot. I wouldn't put it past the Ebon Night dragging more canons into the area, to watch in amusement as we continually struggle.
Heck, the Ebon Night may well be using us as an interdimensional assassination and garbage disposal tool. It sends us stuff, we kill boss monsters, it kicks us out before we can loot absolutely everything, and it sends back the boss-free rubble with half the loot intact - after having done only a fraction of the work itself.

We could send the Aurors down, but since they weren't part of the original group, we'd have to send them down in the other Leopard or in the Al'Kesh.

If you also want the Destroids down there in case the Shoggoths decide to try and take over the dropships, then you'll want to take the Leopard down.

I'm okay with Egon and Data analyzing what we know of Ebon Night and the Ravenloft setting, but I disagree with pulling the X-COM scientists from the Aglaophotis project.
We've already been able to synthesize the components, and we're nearing the breakthrough required to create the stuff. Cheryl may need it, and it can be used against demons and dispels spirits. I think we'll need it.

A servant doesn't really add anything seeing as most of them are only really interested in the holy grail and that is something that we do not have on hand to offer them. The only one I can think of off hand that would potentially work is archer from fate/stay night if we offer him that chance to be a hero that reality denied him. But to be honest, there are more pressing concerns for hero choices at the moment.
A social hero or an recon/intel hero for one, based on the discussion from a few threads ago.

We'd also then gain the pressing issue of keeping him alive with massive amounts of mana.

In the show, the grail itself is providing most of it that keeps them there. The mage provides mana for combat.

With no grail, we'd need not only enough to sustain him, we'd need enough to let him use his attacks.

Overall, it'd be a waste because we'd either end up sucking half our mages dry, or need a new ship upgrade to collect mana.

While he's make a decent recon hero, someone would first have to figure out how the hell we could keep him alive.

Once we have an idea of how much of Tokyo has been swallowed by mist and where Griffith's tower is, we can begin to plan where to land our troops and how to approach the fight.
Landing right on top of his is not recommended because that gives the advantage to his Apostles. While our mundane weapons will likely be able to kill them, they also have the strength to rip tanks apart and so can severely damage our mechs if they get into melee range.

I second this motion. My only concern is the data we are going to be duplicating in the holodeck. We are going to have to be very, very careful not to accidentally bringing unending madness our ship. Have a contingency to burn/eject/vaporize that section of the ship if necessary. All non-essential crew should be relocated to other parts of the ship not near the test/off the ship entirely. If we can work remotely from the deck, even better.

I really don't want a repeat of our little teleportation debacle from Transylvania. One bad roll could seriously ruin our day.

All of the information would be contained within the holo-recorder. The data can then be transmitted to the Oncoming Storm, where ANON does have buffers and filters specifically designed to filter out and neutralize mimetic viruses and other forms of direct information warfare.
We used it back in the first 2 sessions when we scanned through broadcasts and video feed data from a Chaos-tainted TG probe.

Besides, we don't have a holo-deck. The Indefatigable, as a Defiant-class, is designed as a stripped down pocket warship, and doesn't have the amenities of a Galaxy-class.
We have the holo-emitter, but as I said, we can have ANON filter through the data and make sure that there's no memetic attacks waiting for us.

Also, the transporter incident was the mists and magic taking exception to our attempts to using the transporters in an offensive fashion.

But are we assuming that it will actually be something we can filter? I am not thoroughly versed in the Cthulhu mythos, but I thought the whole point was the horrors/tech were utterly alien and indescribable. That is why I want some additional precautions. Other things have gotten through before, such as Sauron's eye. Given, that was more on the "magic" side of the spectrum than this. That being said, I still wouldn't put it past the Cthulhu-verse from bypassing ANON's built in protections somehow.

The point is I prefer to be retardedly paranoid and over-prepare than just risk doing something that has the potential to bite us in the ass. Especially if it will not hurt us to do so and could potentially prevent something catastrophic from happening.

Then the proper way to do this would be with all of the data from the holo-recorder being contained within a portable memory device with a thermite charge attached to it. The memory device would then be attached to a PADD for 2-dimensional viewing, also with a thermite charge.
For when a full reproduction of the chamber is required via holo-emitter, then it can take place in a cargo hold which has a Mk. 2 Reality Emitter (which we still need to build) and can be open to space.

You send your forces to secure the odd chamber, which they do so with relative ease. Descending through the secret tunnel, going deep underground, they scan the chamber's interior and send the information to orbit. A.N.O.N. runs over the data and swiftly pronounces the room safe from insanity-causing inscriptions. Despite this, when he sees the images coming back from the chamber, Egon grows a little pale.

"I think it behooves me to state that I've seen this room before, or something like it," Egon states. "The crystal pillar in the center there looks similar to designs I've seen in several ancient myths I've read about pertaining to pillars holding up the world. It actually bears a passing resemblance to the Pillar of New York I encountered once... minus the orange lubricant oozing from it. That pillar was also perpetually moving and made of stone. Crystal and still... Does the whole area have a metallic and/or crystal sheen or formations? Does it connect to the ceiling? Do the scans of the complex so far have anything to suggest this is a load-bearing structure?

Run the text scans through arcane-type languages and ciphers; paying particular attention to Cthulu Mythos, Infernal, Abyssal, various elemental languages, and various languages from the Warcraft universe. If it's crystal and still, I'm vaguely suspecting this to be the World Pillar.

Oh! Have VP-99 scan the area for magnetic sources and such, starting with the pillar.

Alright. Transport some demolitions charges down to the team inside the complex if possible. Consult with Demoman about the type and placement of the charges for maximum efficiency of destruction. If this is a load-bearing pillar, we may be able to bring the city down on some nasty bugger that tries chasing us out.. Or as a final hurrah to destroy the place once we get all the loot and leave.

Continue the watches and have VP-99 scanning for any changes that wouldn't be immediately obvious to the team down there already. We probably need to know what the writing says, and giant room in the middle of an insanity-inducing city just screams "boss fight" to me. I want details in case they're important to future fights, or whatever we get from them; so we should wait on the translation.

If Egon doesn't require it, we should probably beam down the holo-emitter for the Probe Droid in Tokyo to start using. It will provide it with optical camo, and allow it to hide better. We just have to beam it down when the scientists aren't looking.
Once ready, it needs to search the city for Guts and the monster-summoning teenagers.

Also, someone suggested having Mouse beam down to one of the cities that's no longer covered by mist and access Wikipedia.
One of the major US cities should be a good place to beam down, and he should be able to access a computer. The power plants will hopefully be back up and the Internet online.

We've been wanting a Tausennigan Thunderhead-class fabrication foundry, though. It might be enough to build the Mk. II's and Mk. III's, along with everything else we want. We should check in with the TG database and see if it'll meet our needs, or if we need to buy the upgraded workshops and the engineers to staff them.

Interesting that unrelated protagonists are here, first protagonists period that we've seen short of local Silent Hill people.
Probably a side effect of just how crazily powerful the distortion here was, plus pulling stuff from Eastern sources was probably a really unusual experience for Ebon Night, they've got shit in there that's so far outside his experience that it probably even scared him/it.

Besides the need to replicate weapons and armor for all of them, they're mostly civilians, and they'll get torn up worse than our TG Recruit team.
And finally, they have a chance to get back to a normal life, versus being thrown into combat against monsters with little chance of seeing their retirement alive.

We had confirmed early on that there was no lifesigns within Raccoon City. There were to schools of thought on rescuing the 50 from Riverside. A) the blast to Raccoon may damage them as they were reportedly very close to each other (or zombies might remain there), and B) there was concern over the risk that Riverside would vanish as well, trapping those people in L4D.
There were suggestions for making believable extractions without needing to Obliviate, but it is unknown if they were used. It was late and I think OP was just tired of us arguing about it by that point.

Data and the Storm crew can whip up some basic drones easily enough.

Riverside is gone, leaving the survivors you picked up somewhat at a loss. More than a few want to return anyway and try to pick up some semblance of a normal life. They state they are willing to have their memories altered so long as they can live in peace. However, some of the survivors would rather see how deep the rabbit hole goes. It is up to you what
to do with them. 35 of the 50 wish to return. 15 do not.
