If it's an hour late, then it must be...

    TG QUEST!!!

    ...and your pizza is free.

    Last thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/17937512/

Short Summary: Having arrived at the infamous 8-bit Dystopia, you find yourself on the opposing end of the schemes of a rogue Transpace Guard researcher turned monster, Dr. Grimm. Having communed with the Goddesses of Hyrule, you have learned much, determining that Grimm seeks to stamp out the last heroes of the City, and you must stop him.

    >You also managed to locate Dr. Light's broadcast spot, a relay deep in the Pipes, as well as discovering that Dr. Robotnik has seized a Subspace Bomb, Dr. Wily has acquired research data from the Men of Iron, and MetPharm is working on researching the three gems of Hyrule.

    >You made an attempt to recon the dig site, but were beaten back by Metal Man, and your attempt to contact Dr. Light took a setback when Spike was nearly devoured by rabid Goombas.

    >MetaOP, did you just copy paste from the planning thread?

    >You have no shame.

    Er, anyway....

    >Light Contact Team (assuming Spike and Tosh aren't up for active duty yet):
Star-Lord (with his standard loadout and an Exographic Targeting Scanner).
Spy (with the Enforcer, Your Eternal Reward, and Dead Ringer).
    VP-98
Delta Green (standard loadout, with 5 nanny-bags, Federation tricorder, and Federation medkit)
    3 Aurors (standard loadout)
    Medic (Medigun, Syringe Gun, Amputator)

All troops to be assumed to be equipped with Mk. II Reality Emitters, 2055 Comm equipment, and Federation transporter beacons.

    >Insertion plan is to identify an area which is beyond the outer ring of Light's defenses, and for the Oncoming Storm to provide Advanced Sensor Overwatch, and the Indefatigable to provide emergency beam-outs.
The away team is to make it's way towards Light's outer defense perimeter, and wait to be acknowledged. If no acknowledgment is made, move forward and attempt to make contact with Light.

    >Plan to say you're aliens, possibly ancient ones.

As always, have VP-98 scout out ahead of the team. Then the Delta Greens determine enemy movements/patrol patterns so we can cleanly get out of bad dice rolls.

One Auror would be for transfiguration/summoning flocks of birds duty. He'll be doing what we did in Bootleg Quest in the dungeon. Summon a flock of birds to absorb enemy fire and confuse them, and use transfiguration to transform the enemy into harmless things.

The two Aurors are free to reaction-fire. Use deprimo on the enemies' feet to stop some of them.

The first Auror should be ready to transfigure the enemies into mice or marshmallows. The other Aurors should cast protego to shield from attacks, and avis to summon a flock of birds to distract/annoy/absorb enemy fire.

Your forces beam down a short walk from the outer ring of Dr. Light's defenses. No incidents occur as they do so, and they reach the first hidden camera without difficulty. As ordered, they stand around in front of it impatiently for a time, Star-Lord waving to it several times. The Spy leans against the metal wall of the tunnel, his hand going for a cigarette, only to promptly stand straight as his back gets a layer of slime on it.

"Zis was a new suit..." he murmurs.

"Zat was a dumb move," Star-Lord comments. Spy shoots him a murderous glare. Star ignores this, turning to the camera and waving his hand again. "This robot tour DOES have robots in it, right?"

let's not rush in with the alien story. Besides, we want to play up being an opponent to Metpharm if we're going that route. Of course, destroying an enemy of liberty like Wily isn't a a problem for us. Perhaps we can pool our resources?

Also, suggest that we stay in the background of the resistance efforts. The longer we stay unknown, the better chance we have against the corps.

obviously, the greatest value Light presents to us (other than his robotics genius) is his knowledge of wilycorp, as well as wily himself. Perhaps we can strike up a bargain-we'll strike against wily in exchange for his help against Metpharm, perhaps providing a computer virus to screw over their electronic security. of course, both things help us, but he doesn't need to know that.

Disaffected or disgruntled Corp employees. Where would we find some? It would be worth much to us to be able to hear inside knowledge of the corps' capabilities and defenses.

    >Like you said, you're expecting people that are known to the corporations. We aren't. If we stay in the shadows, we can strike them from angles they aren't expecting.
Perhaps we would have more success in infiltrating than known resistance agents, as we are (hopefully!) off the records. However, we need to know more before we can do that. A way to successfully pose either a biological agent as an Employee, or a mechanical agent as a Corp Bot.

Any tips or hints on how to do this would be much appreciated. In fact, Dr. Light, didn't you help Dr. Wily design a line of robots? You'd be the go-to man for designing a system that could fool Wily.

Let's all argue for a while!

Ask if Light is willing to help us reverse engineer some bots for the Data we already acquired (through Legillimensing some employees, scrying, and sensor scans) or if it needs to be something overt.
If it's something overt, don't worry about it. It'll cause more shit than just us trying to cobble together a spydrone on our own.

In the meantime, hitting up bars for people to Legillimens gives us a good idea.

We really should ask Light if there's a way to get in contact with him or his resistance, since both he and we are likely to find more data as time goes on. He's got an infiltrator in Metpharm, we're preparing some for Robodyne and Wilycorp.

As soon as we get a reliable Infiltratorbot and a few more disgruntled employees' worth of information in us, we'll start Actively infiltrating corps, and/or kicking the door down.

    Way to contribute.
I didn't get us into this mess, but I'm at least trying to get us out of it.
And so far mine is the least problematic since we'd just be underselling something we can actually do.
Like we actually aren't able to access the Project M files from Wily, we don't have the technology to replicate Mega Man's weapon duplication (and if we did, we can't share it) and we haven't swiped the plans from Light either, plus it would be a bad diplomatic move to pretend that we did.
So how does saying that we can vaguely predict the future invalidate anything?

It would work better if the backdoor was a Proxima VIII computer system that was connected to the WilyCorp network. We detected it and were able to communicate with it, and through it, access Wily's data.

The device proves that a rogue Proxima VIII researcher is the one who's gave Wily the new technology seen in his upgraded Robot Masters and in the new series of WilyCorp enforcers.

We know that Wily has an Imperial dataslate.
It is obviously not 8-bit Canon technology.
If Light goes rooting through the WilyCorp network with whatever backdoors and passwords he has, he'll find new technology, very advanced, being worked into new robot designs.
This would explain where Wily got the new tech, our knowledge of Project M, and why we are targeting Wily, Robotnik, and MetPharm; to find this rogue researcher and neutralize him.

As a token of goodwill, Dr. Light supplies you with a small amount of currency for your agents to use, figuring you aliens might not have any for your attempt at bar infiltration.

It doesn't take very long to locate the bar Dr. Light was talking about. The bar is located in a dark, what seems to be nearly abandoned part of the city. However, on a closer look, closed doors, shut windows, and only the faintest cracks of light visible from behind them speak of both habitation and shady dealings.

A battered neon sign reading "Jay's" hangs from the front wall of a squat building of cracked concrete and metal. The bar sports a handful of barred windows from which slivers of light spill through onto the streets, and the thrum of music and idle chatter drift from the entrance, a discolored wooden door.

Spike and the Auror materialize in an alleyway devoid of life nearby, emerging with frowns at the environs.

"Eh. I've been to worse," Spikes says with a shrug as he fingers the money given to him. He grins. "They'd better serve food with their drinks."

Spike enters the bar as the Auror shimmers to invisibility, the door opening to show a wide single room floored with checkered tiles. Numerous tables dominate the floor, while shadowy booths fill the space along the walls. A single old-style oaken bar, a bit of an anachronism in this city of steel and silicon, lies at the back of the room. Shelves lined with drinks fill the wall behind it. The bar is packed full of workers drinking, talking, and carrying on. A few play pool in a corner, while a solitary man in a rumpled suit desperately plays an old arcade cabinet near the pool tables. Several of the customers wear WilyCorp jumpsuits, or have WilyCorp jackets draped over their chairs, but there are a handful of sullen, labcoated MetPharm workers drinking in a booth, and many of the customers simply have nothing openly identifying their employer.

No one bats an eye as Spike enters in his usual clothes, which oddly enough fit in with the clothes of the day. He strolls right up to the oaken bar, and slams down a credit chip.

"Best stuff this'll get me," Spike asks with a slight grin. "And whatever grub you have on hand."

"... next day I hear through the grapevine that old man Wily is frantic, sending another EIGHT Robot Masters to scour the area for that damn cube. There's talk about how it's some sort of super database from before the invasion, some copy of records kept about the aliens, analysis of their technology, battle plans, even autopsies! I've told you what I know, now can I please... Huh? What does that matter? Well... There aren't a lot of things I remember about the site itself, details come fuzzy after all that.... Obvious cybernetics dot his frame, and two spiked steel arms have long replaced his flesh ones. A massive technological sword is strapped to his back, and a facemask lies on the table, unworn while he drinks. The man's face is a mass of scars and wires.

"The arms remind me of a friend of mine, but the sword sure as hell doesn't. You allow weapons in here?" Spike comments. The barkeep shakes his head.

Legilimens... The wizard can say it quietly, but he does need to say it and gesture his wand. It doesn't drop invis. It confuses the target for a bit, but doesn't outright point out where the source comes from.

Basically, if you're Silent and Invis, you can cast it, people will know SOMEONE'S casting magic, but they won't know WHO or WHERE.

To this end, since we have 6 aurors, we may do best to have 1 pick the Wily dude at the bar, 1 pick whoever that Wily dude was talking to, 2 of the Metpharm employees, and 2 of the randoms, cast simultaneously. The most advanced Legilimens can perform Legilimency nonverbally and wandlessly, but less talented practitioners must use the incantation Legilimens to enter their victim's mind. If a target is not skilled in Occlumency, a Legilimens will be able to detect if the person is lying, as well as delve into their thoughts, emotions, and memories. Highly skilled Legilimens can also influence a mind that they invade; for example, Lord Voldemort, considered perhaps the most skilled Legilimens of his time, was able to send Harry Potter incredibly realistic visions of the Department of Mysteries and his godfather, and later to temporarily possess him (the latter of which was extremely painful to Harry, to the point where he begged Dumbledore to kill him, just to relieve him of the pain). It is easier to perform Legilimency when the target and practitioners' eyes meet.

Translation: If they're great at it, they can read minds at will.
Also, attacking these people in the bar, even if they can't see it is a horrible idea, and will likely piss them off. Another thing, how the hell is Spike supposed to tank anything? He'll get the shit kicked out of him, and this time, his ability won't save him.

Anyway so they send a team down and eventually break through to some sort of underground complex, a labyrinth of tunnels and chambers. Apparently the teams triggered something because it wasn't longer than a day before all contact was cut off, right after one last garbled transmission about monsters pouring in from every corner. Old man Wily wasn't having any of that and pays out for the four best mercenaries he could hire. Codenames "Warrior", "Wizard", "Valkyrie", and "Elf."

So the four man team stayed to try and find it. Others say what they found there drove them mad, and now they roam the tunnels there simply killing anything they can find, monster or now. Even more say that WilyCorp doublecrossed them and sealed them in to avoid paying their fee. Whatever the reason, the entrance to the complex was placed under a military cordon, with no one allowed in or out. Of course that never stops a few treasure hunters from slipping by and trying to brave the dangers there for money." the barkeep says, polishing a glass. "As for the four mercs, an unknown benefactor has placed a bounty on their heads. Another has posted a reward to any who comes back with the secret of that place. Oh. You keep asking for a thread archive.
Since I'm the only one playing it seems, I'll stop now. No point hogging the quest.

We're 40 until Autosage. Might as well use this one as a planning thread. However, I don't have much to plan.

Keep doing what we're doing with the mindreading, keep scanning the HQs, wait for the spybot / spybots (ideally one for both Robo and Wily). Might want to hit up the Robo slums after we're done here.

With that done, we've got all the intel we have without going into the corps directly. I'd say we need to have our best spies review the local information, get a crapload of counterfit dosh, and set up for an infiltration.
Shadowrunner teams, Tosh, and Spike would be good for that, it's what they do.

We should have a Spybot go in first, use the Farseers to guide it using magic powers, Aurors and our Scanners can guide it using more mundane means. This won't be an option for MetPharm, but hopefully Light's agent will be back before then with info.

Once the Spybot's been wrecked (it will be), it's time to have the infiltration teams get in, get as much info as they can, link up any computer systems to Mouse and Data for h4xing, review any security protocols, defenses, list of security, well-guarded rooms, or vital rooms - particularily where the Generators powering these buildings are.

It may also be worth having Aurors go with them, if the Aurors are willing to brainwash corp employees to act as "Agents on the inside", read the minds of security agents, provide Invis/Silence/Extra-sensory charms, or Paralyse someone when we need to gtfo.

Infiltration's goal is not to loot the stuff, and it's not to take risks - it's to get as much Info as we can, before we simultaneously kick 4 doors down. Hopefully with all that shit, and links to the base's systems (Ideally we'd be able to sabotage AT LEAST their communications, and ideally their Generators), we can drop our forces in and gogogo.

Honestly I think this plan is our best chance of success in a pretty bleak situation, but if anyone has any better ideas, it'd be good to hear them.

    Uggh.
    Fuck no.

We use the transporters on the Inde and the Aurors with memory charms to prepare sleeper agents in advance of any infiltration we do.
We use them to map out a path from an insertion point to the target labs.
We also first need to target the interdiction field generators at each HQ. The fields don't have to be down for the entire time, just long enough to allow for insertion and extraction. This can be done either via sleeper agents or by the Shadowrunner teams.

Robodyne is more robot based than even Wily, and so we need to have a working Robodyne IFF. We need to do another capture mission, with the target being an Egg Industries robot before we attempt infiltration.

Do the same for the Robodyne employees.

    Corp Infiltration:
Don't send in our own personnel and equipment when we can have sleeper agents do it for us.
Do the same beam up-mindrip-Obliviate-bioscan-beam-down procedure we used earlier, except this time add in memory charms that will manipulate the kidnapped employee's memory to make them think that they are actually a sleeper agent for Light's Resistance.
The objective of the sleeper agents are to not get caught, provide us with the locations of vital systems, security shift information (and make sure to brainwash some security personnel by using this information) and to facilitate our strike teams when we make our move. They are to leave the data we want at dead drops, such as in trashcans, underneath benches, and behind toilets in bathroom stalls. The Inde will then beam up the packages, allowing for us to acquire the data without risking an operative.

The spybot can be used when we actually do the infiltration by taking point and confirming that our projected route to our targets is clear.

Some good news if the Metacontaminant is X-Com related...we might actually have some pre-time to prep for what's in said cube, and access methods.

Artifact-wise, what can we cross-reference? If it's a similar crossover to that dataslate, odds are high it's some kind of data storage device. Yoinking it would be ideal, but having something on hand that could simply scramble it's contents to digital garbage might be a good fallback.

I've read through the background material.
The X-COM UFOpaedia and X-COM remnant forces are Native. The UFOpaedia might fall into Wily's hands, it might not.
However, all three leaders (Wily, Robotnik, Mother Brain) know about X-COM and the UFOpaedia, and what it represents.

X-COM Remnant forces dislike Wily and Robotnik, because the corps tore X-COM apart piecemeal, but they absolutely loathe MetPharm.

We might be able to use old X-COM comm codes to try to get in touch with some Native X-COM support when we hit MetPharm.

So combining these two, we can attempt to get X-COM support. We will need a cover story, however.
In the background material, X-COM did not appear to make contact with Light or his Resistance, so we might be able to use a different cover story than the one we gave to Light.
However, with the Meta-Contamination, I don't want to risk it.

What we could do is have the X-COM Vets make the contact, and say that they're remnants that sought refuge with the people of Proxima VIII when Earth fell. We could concoct a story that the Proxima Republic also resisted the encroachment of the Ethereal Empire, and so were willing to provide sanctuary to our X-COM squad. When they learned of Hyrule, the X-COM vets hitched a ride with the advance task force sent to find MetPharm and the Space Pirates.
One of the Task Force's operatives (Spike) heard the rumor of the UFOpaedia, and that's why our X-COM vets tried to contact the X-COM Remnants.

    That's a good start.
See what protocols, codewords, and passphrases are supposed to be used in this kind of situation, that of X-COM being either dismantled or rendered non-operational, and individual operatives must now fight on their own for the sake of Humanity.

X-COM must have had some kind of contingency plan in place in case something like this happened.

    Actually, I'm almost positive.

When X-COM was first dismantled after the First Alien War, its operatives and scientists were mostly scattered. But then the Second Alien War started, and everyone was called back to aid in the fight.
So the original X-COM, the veterans and scientists from the First Alien War, would know of the contingency plans, of the back-ups and hidden caches, of what to say when it's time for X-COM to rise again, and defend Humanity.

Seeing as how this isn't planet Earth, the location of the old stockpiles and bases are useless.

BUT. Your X-COM Veterans know the various pass-phrases and challenges that would identify them as X-COM to other X-COM units, assuming they aren't different here. If that fails, between them and the scientists, they know enough about X-COM to be convincing. They also know the frequencies used by X-COM. Sending messages in those frequencies, or monitoring them for burst transmissions, may be a good start to locating X-COM here.

The locations of stockpiles and caches isn't useful for trying to get at them, but they ARE useful in convincing any X-COM Remnants that our X-COM operatives are genuine, because no one else should know that information.

So checking the old X-COM frequencies should be part of the plan, possibly even making burst transmissions of "X-COM Operative Here; Requesting Orders".

    X-COM Remnants:
Have the X-COM Veterans, Scientists, and Engineers go over the cover story we have.
They are survivors of X-COM forces that sought refuge in the Proxima Republic at Proxima VIII after Earth fell. After the fall of the Republic, they came with the advance task force. Spike picked up rumors of X-COM Remnants still operating in the City, and so our X-COM forces have attempted to make contact to coordinate a strike against MetPharm and the other corps that sold out X-COM.

Yes they have. They've monitored several X-COM transmissions, finding out the following over the course of the day.

    > The new incarnation of X-COM is called "X-COM NOVA."

    >X-COM NOVA only numbers less than a hundred field agents, with half that number equipped with high end gear such as Blaster Bomb Launchers and Flying Armor. They only have a handful of tanks, and only 2 Skyranger-III stealth transports. They have a single heavily modified Galaga-class fighter serving as an interceptor.

    >X-COM NOVA is aware of Dr. Light's resistance and is considering an alliance, or at the very least anonymously leaving information to the good Doctor.

    >X-COM NOVA's long term plan seems to be the destruction of MetPharm and Robodyne, and at the very least a weakening of WilyCorp.

    >X-COM NOVA has a handful of safehouses around the city, and one primary base located deep underground the City.

    >X-COM NOVA has been forced to repel several incursions by Pipe creatures to their underground lair's location.

    >X-COM NOVA's sensor net has detected a small fleet of ships appearing in the system a day or two ago, but lost tracking on them. They are aware that Robodyne also detected, then lost contact with them due to that corporation's links with the Galaxy Defense Force.
