"HEAD, STOP ACHING, WE HAVE A QUEST TO RUN!"

    "...no."

    TG QUEST!!!

    Last Thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/18180825/

Current Status: Thread is up so you know what's going on, but it won't go active until my head stops feeling like it's in a vice. ETA: 9 PM. Sorry for the wait.

Short Summary: Having arrived at the infamous 8-bit Dystopia, you find yourself on the opposing end of the schemes of a rogue Transpace Guard researcher turned monster, Dr. Grimm. Having communed with the Goddesses of Hyrule, you have learned much, determining that Grimm seeks to stamp out the last heroes of the City, and you must stop him.

You also managed to locate Dr. Light's broadcast spot, a relay deep in the Pipes, as well as discovering that Dr. Robotnik has seized a Subspace Bomb, Dr. Wily has acquired research data from the Men of Iron, and MetPharm is working on researching the three gems of Hyrule.

You made an attempt to recon the dig site, but were beaten back by Metal Man, and your attempt to contact Dr. Light took a setback when Spike was nearly devoured by rabid Goombas. However you eventually managed to contact the good Doctor and gain some valuable information.

You have managed to make contact and secure an alliance with the remnants of X-COM, X-COM NOVA, for an attack in 2 days on MetPharm.

Alright, thanks for the heads-up, MetaOP.

As of last thread, we had these task items started:
    1. converting an abandoned building to be similar to Wily Towers, so that a maintenance engineer we bribed can show us their power and security setup.
    2. Scrying was done on the Corp HQ's, identifying security and defenses, and the shadowrunner teams were on hand for expert analysis.
    3. Dr. Lazarus is whipping up a batch of virus, that will cripple the human workforce of the Corps, timed to coincide with our attack.
    4. Dr. Light has been informed of our plans to attack in 2 days and is getting ready.
    5. Gondegal is being readied with ghost-touch equipment, should be another day. He will be able to provide us with tricorder readings, and slap transporter beacons onto targets, once the equipment is ready.
    6. Light is sending a spybot to the Dig Site.
    7. Douglas Cartland is still trolling through seedy bars with an Auror and a Psion to find any more potential turncoats to bribe.
    8. Abjurers are making stickers and posters of Explosive Runes; spell has been confirmed to be triggered by robots reading them.

    Need status updates on:
    A. Techno-Wizards are upgrading the light ceramic-titanium mesh armor that the Psions, Abjurers, and White Mages wear with magical enchantments. See how much progress has been done, and what level of protection we can expect.

    Misc.
Dr. Han is being trained by Medic on how to use a Medigun. Will not be ready for the attack.

2 latent psychics detected amongst the TG Soldiers. Will not be ready in time for the attack.

Advanced Engineering Bay is still damaged and non-operational. Will not be ready in time for the attack.

Hey MetaOp, minor question on our inventory. Are the baneblade crewed with a normal crew, or do we need to find people to crew them?
    >> Anonymous 03/05/12(Mon)20:24 No.18219419
    >>18219402
Holtz already crewed the Baneblades; that's why we had to take an extra day back at Sector HQ.
    >> Anonymous 03/05/12(Mon)20:47 No.18219727
The baneblades (or some of them) would be very useful in making a single, devastating strike at Metpharm.

Although, do we really want to destroy it? This is a canon dystopia crossover, and if we clear out some of the antagonists we might actually be creating a reality distortion ourselves.

We know Grimm is at the center of the planet. Why don't we just laser-tunnel our way down there and shoot the fuck out of him?
    >> Codeki 03/05/12(Mon)20:49 No.18219748
I'm mostly wondering if they're outfitted with a standard crew. The Lexicanum says that the normal crew for a Baneblade is a Commander, a Driver, 3 Gunners, 3 Loaders, a Comms-Operator, and an Engineer.

If that is accurate for our Baneblades, that means we have 100 engineers standing around doing nothing normally, and we can have them working in the Engineering department while they aren't deployed.

Besides the fact that we don't have the specialized mining equipment for it, you're underestimating Grimm's powers, and his knowledge of the Guard.

Besides, the amount of energy required for a drilling operation of that much power would light up every single sensor in the system.

The Mikasa could, but without knowing more about what Grimm is capable of we could be throwing resources away. We would be attacking him in his lair, and there's all those captives to consider. We don't know who they are, what importance they have.
We could attempt further scrying but I think it would be dangerous and we should remain aware of the dangers, even if it's necessary.

Have the Tricorder turned on, in passive scanning mode. It should be able to compensate for the phase variance of being ethereal.
We want him to look around, try to find the power generators, backup generators, the primary and secondary interdiction field generators, and Robotnik's personal lab where Metal Sonic is located.

Have the tricorder set to accept burst transmissions from the Indefatigable, and to send burst transmissions back.
We want energy flow readings, and what the interdiction field generators use to set up their fields.

How did Metalman destroy the spybots? If he destroyed them by simply flinging blades at them, would it be possible to rig one with a localized Electro Magnetic Pulse to possibly short him out. I'd suggest rigging a Probe droid with some kind of camoflage that confuses digital cameras or a low powered shield that will let him get close enough to act as a bomb.

If we can fry Metalman, that would make this quite a bit easier.

He can. Gondegal infiltrates the building and over the course of four hours is able to find the room where the teleportation interdictors are housed. It's a massive chamber with numerous posted guards, Eggman obviously quite wary of the damage a teleportation-borne assault could have on his operations.

    >>18220084
Dr. Light is a bit incredulous.

"My dear boy, you seem to drastically underestimate how easy it is to destroy a Robot Master. If a mere Spybot could do it... Well. I wouldn't have spent so long designing... Ahem. Anyway, my infiltrator has reported back. Didn't you want me to share his findings?"

As for Gondegal, make note of the security setup for the interdiction field generators. If only we had enough time to make some ghost-touch bombs...

Gurus! How long would it take you to ghost-touch some thermal detonators, or X-COM High Explosives?

Now, Gondegal will need to find Robotnik's personal lab.
    >> Potential Writefag 03/05/12(Mon)21:28 No.18220217
Can Gondegal tell if the room is self-powered or if it draws power from somewhere else?

If it is self-powered, then we may be in trouble. If not, have him follow the power lines back to a source or major junction and keep it in mind for sabotage.

Have ANON upload the energy signatures of Chaos Emeralds if we have that data; or particularly anomalous energy signatures. Locating any Emeralds may help us de-power Eggman's stuff; or at the very least keep it away from Metal Sonic so it can't go Super on us or anything.

    "Doctor, please share your report."

    Yes, we would appreciate it.

Have Gondegal keep searching for the generators, or Chaos Emeralds if Eggman has them. Also have him do a quick look over of most of the forces currently being used. Are the guards he's been seeing mostly mechanical, or have they been human.

Search for any areas that seem to be sealed off from the rest of the area, any secret labs, and storerooms that have been forgotten.

In addition, he found several disturbing documents to possibly inhuman masters behind the corporate face... even that their headquarters here is just a front! Their actual base of operations is hidden somewhere else, but he couldn't tell where. Finally, he found reports concerning a raid on WilyCorp property. Apparently MetPharm managed to act on an anonymous tip and attacked a WilyCorp dig, making off with three ancient Hyrulian artifacts with bizarre energy properties. They seem to react to certain sonic vibrations and sound frequencies, and apparently have caused several temporal anomalies within the lab they were being examined at. MetPharm isn't sure what to make of them, but is currently testing the effects of various soundwaves on them. They believe it might be the way to control whatever power they hold."

Gondegal reports that the generators seem to draw power from the main lines, but being from a medieval kingdom, he hardly knows enough about the subject to be sure.

My suggestion would be to have Gondegal watching Eggman so we know when he goes to the bathroom, or sleeps.

As soon as he's not paying attention, sabotage the Interdictor by reaching into it, solidifying his hand, and pulling some wires. We can then teleport out Metal Sonic and the bomb (preferably directly into the sun) and teleport in an EMP that will probably remove most data on his computers regarding the bomb.

Gondegal manages to locate Dr. Robotnik's laboratory in the uppermost floors of the towering corporate HQ. It is a large, open chamber filled with innumerable machines and devices that the ghost cannot identify. Many of these hold half-built or completed devices that look vaguely similar to the Subspace Bomb you told him to look out for. Amidst the maze of consoles, manufacturing tables, and robotic assemblers, the once-paladin locates a half-assembled robot contained in a sort of support creche.

The blast doors, of which there are four sets, are each a foot thick and comprised of a dense metal alloy not in the tricorder's database.

It is heavily guarded by Badniks of all sorts and sizes, as well as automated defenses such as metal tentacles that unfurl from the walls, tipped with flamethrowers and lasers. Gondegal sees a series of spider Badniks that seem to be weaving webs so thin as to be invisible... the tricorder confirms they are mono-molecular webs, deadly to any trying to pass.

Trap doors that open into pits of acid, chemical gas vents, and living metal sheets on the floor...

Dr. Robotnik is a bit more creative with his traps, it seems.

    SO PREDICKTABULL.

Gondegal plants the beacon, then makes his way back to the labs to place the other. He manages both successfully, then slowly makes his way back down yet again to the interdiction field machines. He gives the signal, then corporealizes and yanks a handful of wires from the machine, causing it to spark and sputter. As alarms begin to blare, he reaches in and pulls another handful, causing the field to fail...

The Subspace Bomb vanishes in a shower of sparks, reappearing safely in the cargohold of the Indefatigable. One of the Al-Kesh's transporters locks onto the beacon and begins activation of its transporter array...

The interdiction field snaps back up, interrupting the teleport as redundancies for the machine activate. The teleportation for Metal Sonic fails as the Storm detects several active sensor scans pinging the area all around the Robodyne HQ. Yes we do. We've been sitting behind the Moon with an RVF-25 putting up an ECM field and they haven't detected us. The other ships were able to hide behind Mars for a while, showing that Robotnik and the GDF might be able to detect warp signatures, but they don't have the resolution to figure out where in a system they originate or exit.

The Indefatigable and the Al'Kesh were able to sit unnoticed as long as Robotnik's sensors were on passive.
And its only when they went active and began focusing on specific areas that they were able to detect the Inde.

So if we warp out, then return back from another direction under cloak, then we won't be detected because Robotnik's and the GDF's sensors will be concentrating on the wrong sector of space.

Are there disposal chutes for ruined parts; like to an incinerator? If so, parts need to start flowing in that direction.

The point is that Robotnik wouldn't be lax enough normally to let an opportunity such as an attack on Wily Towers go unexploited. When we attack, we'd have to fight Wily forces going in, and while there, a second attack by Robotnik forces.

By making Robotnik think that someone wants him to attack Wily, he'll be less likely to attack and catch our strike team in a pincher between Wily and Robotnik forces.

Also, I'd like to get Tosh talking to the Goddesses again. Have him ask them if they've noticed any change in Grimm's patterns, and if they have any idea how to safely handle those Stones. They're clearly Hyrule artifacts so they should know about them.

Right, we need confirmation that the reality distortions at Robodyne HQ have been neutralized.

As for MetPharm and Wily, I think both, because we should have released the virus earlier this day and the incubation period is 1 to 2 days.

    I have several ideas:

    1. Invisible Aurors drop/release them in the bars that the employees frequent.
    2. Using magic, fling the capsules and have them crack open in high traffic areas, such as entrances and exits to the HQ's.
    3. Have the security guy we bribed bring in an air freshener, which actually releases the virus along with a nice pine scent.

I think we should avoid bringing in concentrated samples of the virus to metpharm, as they may detect it before deployment.
I think we'd have an easier time of infecting the employees by targeting places where they gather, maybe spreading it liberally around the general public to disguise the fact that we're targeting metpharm

We can use the Aurors, yes. But they stay nowhere near the release area.

Or we have the cure sitting ready for them when they come back. Whichever works better. I'd prefer time-release of some sort so they can get away. I don't want them out of commission.

Everything does not go as smoothly for your bribed guard.

He enters the WilyCorp building with the "virus freshener" stuck in his pocket, and an explanation ready for it. He even makes it to his cubicle and sets up the "air freshener" as planned. Then an alarm begins to blare as a microbiological sensor the guard was not aware of activates. Your bribed guard panics, attempting to hide the freshener in his desk as his coworkers begin to flee the scene, the cubicle chamber sealing itself off as automatic doors lock into place.

A few minutes later, Heat Man arrives, backed with a small squad of Sniper JOEs. His gaze immediately locks onto the virus-pump despite it being locked in a plastic drawer. Wordlessly he raises his arm and sends a gout of white flame over the guard's workplace, reducing it to a combination of melted metal, plastic, and ash in the blink of an eye. The Robot Master turns its glowing eyes to your security guard. The man's mouth is trembling, his eyes wide, his arms shaking as Heat Man slowly advances towards him.

    Finally, something inside him breaks.

"SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS!!!!" he shouts, drawing his sidearm and unloading it at Heat-Man until the magazine clicks empty.

The bullets simply bounce off of Heat Man's alloyed exterior. As the Sniper JOEs begin to round up the other officer workers, Heat Man raises metal arm and projects a gout of flame that surrounds and consumes your bribed guard. Fire obscures your vision of the rest of the room and the guard's pained screams, which turn truly horrifying in intensity near the end, block out all other sound until the link breaks.

A.) I am having a bitch of a time finding the damn progress notes for this damn project. I know the PPE batteries were finished, but protective armor upgrades... Screw it, tracking down my Rifts book.

OK, there's no notation on how long it takes for any TW enhancements to be installed save for the Magic Power Armor. So, using that as a baseline, I estimate about a day per armor. It's been what, 4 days since you started this? So 4 suits are ready with an Armor of Ithan upgrade. This allows those suits to be used to cast a mystic forcefield that grants 80 MDC. To those of you who don't play Rifts, the forcefield will survive multiple rocket/plasma hits before failing. Using the field drains a small amount of mana/MP/what have you from the caster.

Robotnik's sphere of influence is probably swarming with badniks right about now. He may not think that Wily has any access to spectral/ethereal henchmen, but given how they aren't exactly friendly rivals he might not completely rule that out.

Wily's just foiled what he may think is a biological attack on WilyCorp. This suspicion will only rise as the poor downtrodden civilians in the bars come down with sudden-onset explosive diarrhea. If he's a smart man, he'd think that someone was trying to get him to think that MetPharm was behind that recent attempt; given what the Farseers said, he's probably arriving some very logical conclusions, but they're not even remotely close to what's really going on. Our cover hasn't been blown open, but we still need to get that Imperium data-slate back.

Check back with Dr. Light. Has he detected any unusual activity since Heat Man's actions and/or our retrieval of the Subspace Bomb (don't actually mention that we did those things)?

Gondegal going to Wily Towers now is to find out what additional security is being put in place, so he can see them while they're still offline, and he can account for them.

There are more differences between one built on Mars last week and one built on Gryphonne IV in M39 than you can count, and odds are good that if you're lucky enough to have 2 baneblades in the field, they'll be from different forge worlds and be of different ages. Control setups change from planet to planet, and field repairs over the age of the machine may result in modified systems that bear little resemblance to their forerunners.

    >>Baneblades are so rare in the present Imperial armed forces that some companies upgrade a Leman Russ tank, adding Lascannons and an extra Battle Cannon if they are short on Baneblades. The Baneblade is also in extremely high demand amongst Imperial Guard armoured regiments, meaning that most such regiments will only possess 5-10.

I think even the /tg/ dice gods want to get this behemoth moving again.

    Well, the 29 first.

You set up the fake building and have the engineer perform his 'appraisal', but you don't learn nearly as much as you were hoping. Still, what little you did learn about the WilyCorp layout is added to the mission datalog for later use.

Oh, Gondegal. You were the last thing I expected to break this portion of the quest. This might take a bit.

Gondegal makes the trip to the WilyCorp HQ, infiltrating the vast corporate labyrinth without any problems. He passes by scores of Sniper JOEs and human guards and workers, Metools and even a handful of the infamous Devils. He avoids the Robot Masters, taking care to travel within walls whenever possible to minimize his chances of detection if Wily, like Robotnik, has a means of finding him.

Gondegal does his best to send you detailed information on the security networks as he goes, but something happens as he travels up a secure elevator shaft. An almost haunted looking man with a thick brown beard and hair adjusts his glasses as he steps onboard, a commlink in his hand. He speaks with a Russian accent.

"Wily, I have been working near twenty-four seven on it. There's only so much that can be done even with the brightest minds and best equipment."

    He pauses.

"No, I know. I am aware of that. All the tests are coming back good so far on the Robot Masters, but the new generation line robots are still incomplete. The A.I. improvements alone are showing disturbing... quirks."

A pause as the other party responds.

"Of course not. The upgraded equipments needs to have a handling system that advanced to be used pro-No! I am NOT insulting your positronic brain, I am just saying that system takes time to... Yes. Yes, I see."

    "What field test?"

    Another pause.

"How did you find him? Another tip. That doesn't seem suspicious to you? Hm. I see."

    A pause.

"No, the new detection systems should be able to track energy signatures like that, but only the Masters have theirs working. Upgrades to the main systems will require serious overhauls."

    Another pause.

"Well if you're that insistent, just meet me in the main high-sec lab with it. We'll go over it together and you can show me just how I'm supposed to accomplish all that in such a short time-frame."

He falls silent as Gondegal quietly lurks in the elevator, invisible and unseen.

Gondegal continues to follow Dr. Cossack when the elevator reaches its destination in the upper floors of the tower. The good doctor takes many twists and turns, deactivating layer after layer of security measures with his ID badge, thumbprint, voice, and even retinas. Gondegal follows behind, swift and silent, penetrating layer after layer of protection by the simple virtue of being near one of WilyCorp's top men.

Finally, Dr. Cossack accesses a large analysis lab, replete with huge computers and devices he cannot identify. Behind a sort of table with many robotic appendages and tools stands an angry looking old man, the slim square of a dataslate in one hand as he taps his foot impatiently.

    Dr. Wily.

I note that Cossack is talking with Dr. Wily about finding someone due to a tip from someone.

It can't be Gondegal, seeing as how we only recently deployed him AND we used him on Robotnik's turf. Robotnik isn't about to tell Wily that he just had his defenses flummoxed... and the way the conversation's structure didn't imply anything about Robotnik telling Wily he found anything.

No, I think Wily & Cossack are talking about how they managed to find our inside man and his Virus Freshener, even when we didn't use any viruses that were positively identified as bio-weapons. From how the conversation went, I think Wily may have detected our Virus Freshener using some sort of energy signature detector. Remember how Heat-man didn't even need to examine the Virus Freshener for suspicious details and merely incinerated the desk?

I'm worried about those robot masters. If they really have been upgraded with Iron Men technology, then it's likely that they could go rogue, or even fall to Chaos. I recall a story where STC blueprints had become corrupted so that if you angled them properly they formed a star of chaos, allowing warp energies to seep into the machines.

Alright. Motion to notify Dr. Light that one of our infiltrators has destroyed Wily's only database of upgrades, but not the designs that already used the new tech that he incorporated.

We've eliminated the source of the reality distortions, but the upgraded Robot Masters plus any other tech that Wily can downgrade to work on an army of grunts will still make things a bit tricky for Megaman and Protoman later on.

I suppose once we secure the Dig Site, we ask the Goddesses if they want this Temple or not.

The Asgard beam transporters are capable of teleporting an entire skyscraper. As long as we have a place to put it, we can beam the entire Temple out of there.

If we can teleport the entire temple out, why not? Though we should ask the goddesses on what they want us to do with it.

As for securing the digsite and Metal Man, we can have the Pyro blow back the sawblades at him, while a shielded Agrias prepares to use Magma Surge on him.

That should kill him outright, unless we want to use his schematics for our own purposes.

    >>18235534
Well, we would need to set up transporter signal amplifiers and beacons around the Temple, since it's too deep to be teleported out easily.

One problem with "setting up" stuff is that Metal Man has pretty good detection capability due to sensor upgrades. We're not going to get very far if Metal Man's patrolling the place 24/7.

Although if I recall correctly, the temple itself does not have any interdiction fields set up around it. This could mean that we can use teleporter hax to really mess up Metal Man IF we're willing to bring one of our teleporter ships into range. The ECM field being generated by the VF EW variant might prevent us from being detected if we choose to do so.
    >> Anonymous 03/07/12(Wed)00:16 No.18235845
    Alright, Dig Site Attack Plan:

Metal Man can see ghosts and cloaked troops, so sneaking up on his is out.
The Dig Site is too deep to be able to get transporter locks without signal amplifiers, so we can't teleport Metal Man out, or beam troops in.

I have this plan of attack:
    Troops:
    1. Delta Greens, standard loadout
    2. 1 White Mage squad, standard loadout
    3. BLU Team, with Pyro equipped to blow back Metal Man's sawblades.
    4. Agrias, with one of the ORANGE II swords.
    5. Drones with HK-50 for extra firepower

We have the White Mages cast buffs, then use the DG's to shoot up the Dig Site from a couple tunnels away. We have Metal Man come to us, and beat him down.

    Agrias' practice session:

Shove piece of junk machinery into space, then have Agrias use magma surge on it from a distance. If we do it inside the ship, it will cause a problem.

The other risky method is to raise shields and transport away the slag before it burns several holes in the ship decks.

No, I don't think we did. I couldn't find my copy of FFT. And it doesn't seem like anyone else has.

But considering that she's end-game Agrias, wouldn't it be reasonable to assume that she would have trained up and gotten max Geomancer and the pre-requisite Jobs, and maybe some levels in White Mage and such, considering all of the art floating around of her in different Jobs?
