    7 KB Evolution game from Aether !GuYmUwz4mI 03/13/12(Tue)08:34 No.18309908
    Alright then /tg/, lets build a setting from the ground up. Here's how we're going to do it - in the next 3 posts I will introduce 3 creatures. You then take the picture and alter it in paint. You can add new limbs, sensory organs, heads, what ever. Make sure to save your pictures as .PNG.

    I will act as DM, introducing new monsters, events, disasters, ect.

    We start with the Dolli; a Small aquatic reptile with 2 small hook-like arms.

    7 KB
    Next up is the Etta; a Red flightless bird. It is the larges of the 3 creatures and has no real redeeming qualities.

    The Environment is a small fertile Island leading out to an open/vast sea.

    5 KB
    Lastly we have the small Fryc; a mindless worm-like creature with 3 tendrils. The Fryc can live in the soil or the water, but often just drifts to the bottom/gets caught in the current and losses his place.

    Let the game begin! I should mention that when you alter a creature you need to claim if the new version replaces the old one, or if it's a splinter creature.

    A huge wave washes over the island, tearing plants apart and scattering creatures far from their home. Small fish and Dolli are left flopping on dry land, the mindless Fryc are mostly unaffected, and a small amount of the Etta population has died.

    The wave delivered a strange spiral shell onto the Island. Bigger than any other creature. Something seems to move about in the shell.

    The Giant shell begins to move. Dozens of long tentacles shoot out of the shell, grasping trees, rocks, and anything else it can. It is attempting to enter the ocean and it does not seem comfortable on land.

    You can attack the face-less beast and attempt to put it out of its misery and gain an easy meal. Or you can see what happens.

    To attack, roll a D20 ( Dolli get a +5 for their carapace drills.) Who ever score the highest kills the beast. That is, if they want to.

    also our little eel like critter most likely is going to be fine it's not far from a mosasaur as it is and seems quite well built for water.

    The birds...well the birds might run into trouble if just to meet the energy requirements they've been handed

    As sea levels rise and global temperature increases, the island has steadily turned from a nice dry landmass into a swampy mangrove-esque forest. Though there are some areas that are still higher up, they are rocky and provide little in the way of prey or shelter to nest in.

    In the swamps plants and small insecta have flourished however and new species of water beetle, flies and athropoda have developed providing new sources of nutrition as well as challenges to hunters in the form of thicker shells, spines and speedy get aways.

    The aqautic fryc maintains it's small size preferring to prowl amongst the roots of trees, Growing slimmer and more elongated. The tail spike is reduced as the fin begins to for a single long fluke allowing for more complicated motion. such as swimming along the bottom and the ability to kick mud up.

    It's developed a simpler method of feeding sucking up detrtus from the bottom.

    The females with their stilt like legs allow them to move more freely about than their plump males. The result being females do most of the work while the males roost and protect the chicks and tend to forage in trees, eating insects under the bark along with fruits and sources of high calories to maintain their plumpness.

    Both gain a longer beak, allowing for probing and plucking from crevices where insects would hide.

    The water begins to recede and the monsoons have lessened. The water level is somewhere between its original and flooded state. As it lowers you find the tops of small carapace towers left by the beetles.

    The water beetles go to these locations to die and 'glue' themselves to the towers just before they expire.

    Or I can gift you with a more macabre ability. You require the need to drink blood instead of your normal diet and will hold it in large glands on your side. You slowly draw nutrition from it and gain the ability to shoot this blood like a jet. You can cleave a stone in half with these concentrated streams. This gift will require the sacrifice of your size, you will shrink into about half your normal size making your bodies much more frail.

    That was purposeful. I know it seemed lazy on my end but I wanted to see what happens when I just let the community take over.

    More events seem like they could have helped this game, but I very much like where it went. We ended up with amazing sub species, where in the last game I felt like things just went where I wanted them to (the huge jump in Cryd from game 2 to 3). Ultimately I just want to make the players happy.

    Okay, what we had in the other thread was that there were jellyfish that grabbed each others' tentacles to form large nets that would paralyze anything that ventured into them. Even the thick bony plates of the Armordolli wouldn't protect them.
    Because of this, the larged tentacled creatures started moving into shallower water or even shore to keep out of their range.
    Evolutions that happened were that Dollirex got bigger but a bit scarcer, and Armordolli horns got harder.

    Weeddollis were seeing if their powerful shocks would repel or even kill the jellyfish that wandered near.

    It's not long until the Etta developes higher shoulders to assist in balance and reach. This results in a peculiar three-jointed arm, similar to those found in some insects. Powerful scaly forearms also help it resist daily wear and tear, as its immune system is still primitive. No major change in the females.

    Since these guys aren't getting any use in the other thread;

    Over the Ocean, you see a fleet of small creatures carried in by wind. They seem more balloon-like than animal. The creatures deflate the gas from their bodies to get lower to the ocean. They begin picking up the jelly creatures and eating them. There are far too many jelly for these Innu to clear out, but they seem unaffected by their stings.

    To keep buoyant, the Innu do not engorge themselves. They will stick to the Island for now, clinging to tree tops to anchor down. They seem uninterested in anything but the jellies.

    The Normal Dolli drag the blood ettas corpse towards the storm and hurl it into the whirling chaos. The Tornado turns red and it begins to speak;

    "wonderful, despite your loss against the Rex, you remained persistent. The storm then sucks in a handful of Innu. These are strange creatures, they are more malleable than most animals."

    He then goes to instruct the dolli on what glands/organs to remove to gain the same benefits of the creatures.

    The normal dolli may now gain immunity from the Jellies, attach themselves to the creatures to float around, and any further benefit the Innu possess. Unfortunately their Predator, the Rexdolli, has gained the same information but can only prevent the stings of the jellies.

    Also, I do this every thread and no one really takes me up on it - here's my email;

    Feel free to email me and we can organize a time to start the next games, shoot the shit, throw around suggestions, build the setting,ect.

    I say this now because I found this thread on page 9 or something, so I fear it will be auto-saging.

    After a steady diet of common Dolli and jellies the DolliRexs gain more powerful legs so that they can run fast and even jump despite its size.

    The dollies came and tried to scare the Rex away from its own land with rocks, like monkeys tryin to scare a great white tiger. The tiger will murder the apes and claim its place at the top of the food chain. It is only natural, the way of life.

    Not always true. Plus, I'm the only one who holds the power to kill a species (or allow you to roll for it). So don't worry too much about Rex dying. It just might not be at the top anymore.

    Ive read some from your other threads and i think you should add the population feature. Also i think we could use more events. Have climate change, starvation and natural challanges/disasters appear regularly. And then once in a while you add the Quest like "green glow god events" with mutation rewards. I really like that you let people be in charge of whats going to happen with the creatures but we need events to(and ofc more people). The last thing I think we should have is more info on what the creatures eat and how they hunt/live, maybe even go as far as having a map over the island?

    I dont know if all this is possible or even a good idea, but im just trying to give all the feedback and ideas i have right now.

    Even though the event has passed, both the sucker and toxic Fryc have the same poisoned glass stinger. And Weeddolli have the strongest electrical shock out of all the dolli.
    Did the roll of 18 earlier allow them repel the jellyfish with said shock?

    ---------

    With immunity to the stings of the jellyfish, the Armordolli begin to return to the sea for hunting.

    Speaking of population, flying has its risks and the blood ettas are fast to take advantage of the situasion. pic realted

    it has been fun and i hope more people show up later on, good night /tg/

    I agree. It's just difficult getting new people into the game if they have no previous knowledge.
