And then, as darkness slowly gave way to light, the first reports came in. Slow at first, but definite: the detonation had been stopped, the fortress was taken, and the defusal team was requesting pickup. Ella had breathed a sigh of relief, grinning and shouting. She remembered hugging Abby in sheer bliss, and then remembered both her and Abby being lifted off the ground as Oleg embraced them both and lifted them. She didn't remember much after that point, however--the next thing she knew she was laid out on her bed, eyes closed, in her shorts and tanktop. Her vision was blurry, her throat dry. Her head was pounding. Her officer's uniform was cleaned and pressed, waiting on a nearby clothes rack, and the ingredients for a prairie oyster were right by her bed.
Presently, she found herself walking away from the officer's tent, Eye of Shiva in tow, contemplative on the nature of the dug up relic. Ella let out another sigh, shaking the thoughts from her head. She slipped her hand into her pocket and bringing out the Eye. It caught the light at odd angles, its surface feeling smooth, almost glasslike in texture. However, it had weight, like a small stone. No sunlight shone through it, and it felt cold to the touch. She needed answers about this thing. 'And who better to know about Kashir artifacts than a priestess of the culture itself?' She contemplated these things as she stopped to the front of the Starstress Rai's tent, directing Abby to keep watch out front as Oleg and her stepped inside. |
