You lean over a little, and catch a glimpse of her sketching. Oh... oh dear. The bananas are bumpy, the bowl is slanted, the apples look like oranges and the oranges look like mangoes. There are no mangoes in the bowl.
Only a moment later, she catches you, and you shrink back as she covers the drawing. Then she asks to see yours, and you show her. Her eyes widen a little.
'Cor. You're good.'
'Oh, um, thanks...'
'What, you've learned this before surely?'
'Not really... no...' you're not sure what to say. No, because I've not been to school since I was 14, been slumming around? She nods approvingly, and then Diego comes round giving comments. When he gets to yours, he raises an eyebrow.
'Your perspective is a bit muddied, Dylan. And your hand is a wee bit heavy on the shadows, so they don't show the gradation. But boy, this is really really good for a first sketch!'
He then goes on to talk about some basic things in sketching - composition, light and shade, perspective, distance, and the like. It's actually quite informative, and you sketch a few other things with more positive comments, and before you know it an hour's passed and it's time to go. You must say, it's $8 well spent, if only for the relaxation.
> Money in hand: $9
Outside the class Jim and Hugh decide they'll have a drink. Nancy follows them, but Priti's got a test. No, she hasn't; she's just too lazy and thinks Hugh is a douchebag. Amanda hobbles out as you hold the door open. 'Cheers, mate.'
> What do/say? Dinner's at 7... it's quarter past 4 now. You've got time. |
